I tried to use my homeowner's policy to insure the bike (and me); however, they had recently raised the deductible from $500 to $1000, so my bike (paid $500+) was not covered!

But that's OK because I am delighted with my Velosurace policy @ $103 per year which covers the bike, me, and all my add-on equipment. Well worth the money, IMHO.

I believe one rider mentioned this company...

https://velosurance.com/

Also, you might check your homeowners policy to see if it covers your bicycle (and you while you're riding your bike).

I plan to do this, and I'm glad you posted this. It was a good reminder. We spend lots of bucks on our bikes and gear...it would be good to protect our investment...and ourselves!

Thanks for posting!

I have Velosurance, and am so glad I bought the policy. It gives me great peace of mind.

I paid $500+ for my Biria Easy Boarding bicycle. It is an unusual frame, and attracts quite a lot of attention. Even though I use a Kryptonite U-Lock with a cable to secure the wheels, I was afraid that it might be stolen. Also, I just started to ride again at the age of 67 (after not riding for 30 years.) I wanted to make sure I would be covered in case of accident, etc.

I am very glad to be insured on both counts.

Their web address is: https://velosurance.com
The address and phone number are
8201 Peters Rd #1000, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33324
(954) 773-9099

They are underwritten by Merkel, also a bike insurance company.

Although the web address says they do not insure bikes valued at less than $700, that is NOT true. You can insure for any amount.

My policy costs $103 per year, payable annually.

I think it is so well worth the money!

I don't, but I see the article I posted earlier (10 things I learned from my accident) recommended it and he said he paid $120 a year for his.

Curious to hear what other experiences have been...probably should look into this also.

I was thinking about getting insurance for my bike since I use it to teach bike safety classes. Do any of you have bike insurance and if yes can you recommend a company?
