Good for you Dawnloga!

Padded short can help but the bottom line is you have to give yourself time to adjust to sitting on a bike saddle. It will hurt for a while.

I think the right saddle is more important than the padded shorts. If your saddle doesn't fit no shorts will save you the pain. Don't be fooled by those soft squishy saddles. Those are the worse things to use on a bike. My perfect saddle is from Specialized. Some of the high-end bike shops have a special pad that measures the width of your sit bones then recommends a saddle that fits your sit bones. The saddle looks like torture but it as wonderful!

As for the gloves: remember to move your hand position often so your hands don't get numb. Build up your core so it is holding you up instead of leaning on the handlebars.

I have some shorts/bibs that are 20 years old. The old ones I use at the gym for spinning. I like PeralZumi, I want until year end and try to grab a load at a discount. I buy a few every 5 years.

Take care of them. Machine wash gentle and never put in dryer. I hang them.

I do almost all of my bike-stuff purchases on E-Bay. Saves me a ton of $$. Because I ride a lot, I splurge on shorts. My butt has to be real comfortable or else I'm miserable. I've tried most brands and have Assos to be above all. They're expensive, but they're comfortable, long-lasting, and are backed by a lifetime guarantee.

LG are not bad. It's personal preference and how it fits your body. I've got some really good deals in the past from Colorado Cyclist. If you find a pair that fits you just right, buy a load of them at the discount and they will last for 10 years.

I upgraded my cycling shorts to the LG Alveo line with no visible interior stitching...VERY nice cycling shorts and I see they do have them available for women:

Pricier, but worth it, in my cheapskate opinion...lol.

Regarding saddle comfort, if you are relatively new to cycling distances, persist and you will likely find yourself adjusting and the discomfort decreasing. If not, check in with your local bike shop for a saddle "fitting" and they may be able to recommend alternatives that work better for you.

I like to ride my bike, as does everyone on this team. I don't go far - only about 8 miles or so before my bottom gets very sore!

Can anyone reecommend a good padded pair of bike shorts that won't cause me to take out a 2nd mortgage? I also need good gloves - I got mine cheap and I know, you get what you pay for.

Thanks for the help!
