Fantastic ride by Tony Martin who seems to have got his TT form back nicely. Very well done Froomie, extending his lead over the other GC contenders nicely :)

I'm sure the other Teams noticed that Froome was all by himself. With many more mountain stages ahead, we're going to see if Mr Froome has what it takes to stay in yellow, in spite of his Team. I personally like Mr Valverde. He has several climbers on his Team that will help make life miserable for Brother Froome. So looking forward to the remainder of the TDF.

I love the Tour, and take a peek every year, even if I don't know very much about it or get to watch much. I enjoy leaving it on the TV while I multitask the same way I like to watch baseball, and it's widely engaging like the Superbowl (which I'm actually less invested in than the Tour).

Don't judge me too harshly -- let me come along on the TdF bandwagon!

Going in, I figured it would be Chris Froome. I see no reason to change that, even though we have yet to tackle a serious mountain stage. Cadel Evans & Alberto Contador have been at the front of the peleton throughout much of the race, and I expect either one of them to be on the podium in Paris.

I think Andy Schleck is the dark horse. He's pretty pissed at Radio Shack - Leopard for firing his brother. When his "belly is full of anger," he's even stronger than usual. I don't know about his time trial, though. That may be enough to keep him off the podium.

TeeJay Van Garderen is an amazing talent, but I don't think he's mature enough yet to handle carrying the yellow jersey into Paris. That's not a knock against him. A lot of fantastic cyclists have failed to deliver as team leaders in the Tour. Barring a catastrophic injury, TeeJay is going to win a Tour de France. I just don't think it's going to happen this year.

I'd still love to see a French cyclist win, or at least make it onto the damned podium.

That's the scary thing about Sagan. He's strong enough to handle the climbs that drop the other sprinters. Prior to the Tour starting, Bernard Hinault said that in three or four years, if Sagan loses a few kilos of body weight, he could be a GC contender. I think he's right, although Sagan is already so thin if he loses anymore weight he's going to look like a nordic ski jumper.

Great finish today! It amazes me how fast Peter Sagan is. It was tough seeing the crash so close to the finish (especially bad seeing the World Champion in it!), but I'm grateful no one was hurt AND that they all get the same time.

The interviews with Mark Cavendish were great. He's really matured a lot over the past few years (and is saying fewer things that will come back to haunt him). Maybe being a new daddy has changed his perspective about life.

Don, I trust you're an avid reader of Velo News. emoticon The Giro d'Italia wasn't available from my cable provider, and I'm not the type to watch TV on my computer. I already knew the result, but reading the recap in Velo News was exciting. Good journalism always puts you in the heart of the action.

I always enjoy it when I take the time to bother...my problem is that I'm so out of the TV loop it is rare for me to watch anything.

I love watching the Tour and watch it every year. The scenery and background/historical comments that Paul makes are really interesting too, although the biking coverage is the best!

It is disappointing that the US coverage seems rather minimal compared to past years and it's also disappointing that it's not in HD as in years past when Versus did the coverage. (Makes it hard to tell the racers, their kits, and their bikes apart on those distance shots.)

I'm envious RICHHUDSON of British Sports coverage. Bike racing sure doesn't get the coverage that football, hockey, basketball, baseball... or even golf gets here!

Fantastic First Stage - You couldn't make it up. Disappointed for the Cavs, Greipels, Sagens and other sprinters caught up in or behind the crash. Changing the finish line twice must've been unsettling and that must've been one embarassed Orica-Green Edge Team bus driver. I thoroughly enjoyed it. British Eurosport coverage was excellent again :)

I got up at 4:30 a.m. to watch the Tour. I wish cycling got more coverage on American broadcast media. The Hubs is now a fan, after watching a few Tours with me. I've taken him to a cyclocross event, and we're going to a crit in a few weeks. He's ready to plan a trip to Colorado for the US Pro Cycling Challenge.

I'm really glad I watched today's stage live. I'm not sure I would have believed it if I didn't see it.

What an opening stage!

Even before I got my bike I loved watching the TdF. The landscapes and buildings are so different from what we have here in Texas, and I am not sure I will ever be able to get across the pond myself.

How many of you like to watch? Does the sound of Phil Liggit's voice just make you think of hopping on your bike?
