1973 Shwinn Sting-Ray single speed in campus green with the chrome sissy-bars and white banana seat. My Grandfather bought it for me brand new and I road the wheel off it until I could afford a new high end bmx bike of my own because everyone teased me about my girlie bike. We used to go to the park and ride for hours. The was the begining of the disease. ;-)

Nice thought, to have cycling so well integrated into one's culture.

I know I had bikes as a kid but was stumped to be able to recall my first also.

In The Netherlands, everyone owns a bike and they basically start riding as soon as they've mastered the art of walking.. emoticon I don't think there will be a lot of Dutch people who know the story behind their very first bike, I don't even think I can remember my first bike, and I'm only 26!
