I have a Specialized Tricross which I consider my "do-everything" bike. Like you 98% of my riding is on the road, but the Tricross handles dirt / gravel really well. I've also taken my Tricross on long road trips as well as commuting to work and riding out with the bike club. It was recommended to me by my LBS and one of the fellows there road his everywhere. I figured if it was good enough for a seasoned rider like him it would be good enough for me...and that it has!

GL in your hunt...let us know how it works out! :-)

and if so, what are the pros and cons of them? I'm trying to decide between the Trek f/x 2 WSD and a Trek DS (can't remember the number) but similar price as the Trek f/x 2. I'd say 98% of my bike riding will be on pavement but would like the option of going of pavement in a tame way (dirt roads, gravel paths, pothole roads in Louisiana)
