This is the first winter I've tried an indoor trainer. Bought a Giant magnetic. Works great. Every Thursday 6-8 of us get together in a friend's basement & train to a Spinervals DVD. We get a great work out and not bored at all. But if I were by myself I'd probably be bored to tears. Having a friend pedaling right beside you keeps you from being a slacker.

Cool to teaching Spinning! That's been a thought of mine to someday get certified for that...I'd be dead in the water without my music! Even out on the road where I will not listen to an mp3 player, I'll "tune-in" to my inner radio to keep 'er goin'! :-)

I teach Spin class so I consider that my indoor cycling. Last year I did put my bike on a trainer and only needed to put one of my Spin profiles on to get going. Music motivates and pushes me and I found the time flew.

I never can get my heart rate up as high as when I'm riding in a "live fire" situation outside. Intervals help in getting more from less though because my tolerance for trainer work tops out in the 1 1/2 hour range, and usually less. Probably a good time for cross training. The videos I like are Carmichael Training Systems Mountain Biking, and RealRides® Training System with Robbie Ventura. Those are pretty good, as far as training vids go.
Thanks! Very helpful. I don't have a trainer but use the stationary bike at our fitness center. Today I tried out one of the "Expresso" bikes which seems to simulate a real bike better than the other stationary bikes. I'll have to give one of these workouts a try.
