I was able to find a Specialized saddle that fit the bill. The Specialized shop I went to had a gel pad that measured the width of my sit bones. So I purchased a saddle based on the width of my sit bones and it was WONDERFUL! I have since sold that bike and I sometimes ask myself why I didn't keep that saddle. Oh well. Before purchasing that saddle I had tried 6 different saddles.

Carolyn and Don,
Thanks again for your feedback. I've just visited both of your sparkpages for the first time. Impressive and inspirational!

I am fortunate enough to have a wonderful bike club with many members who are packrats for extra bike parts and swapped my Specialized seat out for a Falcon with a trough & cutout down the middle of the seat...easy-peasy!

It works for me, but I suspect I swapped too soon before fully adjusting to such "skinny" saddles and would've probably adjusted fine with the one I had.

Saddles are so individual that it probably wouldn't be too helpful for someone to recommend their saddle. For example, I hate Brooks saddles, but my husband liked his.
I tried two of the Terry for women saddles and after 45 minutes of riding I thought I was going to die... felt like I was sitting on an anvil.
Now I ride a Fizi'k Gobi saddle which I love... in fact I have one for my road bikes, and one for my mountain bike. Most women I know though wouldn't like it because it's a saddle for men.
My LBS let me try different saddles until I found one I like, like a "lending library, but I don't think most bike stores will do that.
Best of luck!

I'm no connoisseur, but among men cyclists who "go the distance" there is much praise and kudos for the Brooks leather saddle. Might be worth looking into...?

I'm looking to both update and increase the comfort of my current LeMond road bike. What saddle do you experienced long distance riders recommend?
Thanks!
