A head's up courtesy of one of our local bike club members:
"Specialized has had several forks break with some leading to serious injuries. Having a fork break at any speed is a recipe for serious, potential disfiguring or fatal injury. Any Specialized Globe model sold since 2007 should be checked by the dealer. The recall is for bikes manufactured in as 2008 and 2009 models but often these models languish in the shops for s few years so some were still being sold this year. I think the Globe models are all flat bar city bikes. Interesting that these are aluminum forks with aluminum steerer tubes. One would think that the industry would have learned by the Lambert and Viscount "Death Forks" from the 1970s, although Augie does continue to ride his Lambert. Check your bike and check your friends' and neighbors' bikes."
