If you are going to ride a trail you better know what you are up against. There are drop offs that only wings will help you. Until you get right up to a hiking trail or path, look down, clean shorts!

Haleakala is beautiful, never had the opportunity to ride it, though, sounds delicious. Heard you could ride trail down it, at one point, too.

Oh, another item in the bucket list! Sounds like a wonderful adventure.

My husband and I look forward to climbing that mountain together some day!

I was one of those nuts. I would do it again if given the chance.

I rode up the whole thing in 95. Then down, had to pedal about 100 yards.

Had a great experience last week. Hubby and I went to Maui celebrating our 60th birthdays this year. Signed up for the Bike down the Volcano trip. A van with bikes in a trailer picked us up and we went to the top of Mt Haleakala largest inactive volcano in Maui at 10,000 ft. We watched the sunrise and then they took us down to 6500 feet where we started our ride. It was brakes most of the way and lots of wind in the face for 27 miles. Great Experience and these 60 year olds held up with all the 20 somethings we rode with. Has anyone else done this or thinking of doing it?
