Usually the only "wildlife" I usually encounter are roadies and wild turkeys! Occasionally, I have observed dear, turtles and the nearly suicidal brown squirrel.

I'll stick to road cycling, too. But even on the road you can have some wild life encounters. Either myself or someone in the riding party has almost been taken out by a deer darting across the road. The first time it happened we were in a pace line. How we all managed to scatter without crashing as the lead slammed on her brakes to avoid the deer is beyond me.

Ouch! I have not seen any wild life besides rabbits and deer so far. I ride a paved trail that goes through woods and can be pretty isolated though(no cell service!). I've seen what looks like bear scat but have not seen a bear yet. I'm really paranoid about mountain lions though! Sometimes I get creeped out thinking of them when I'm far out on the trail by myself.

That's for sure!
I've only seen 3 black bears road biking on some of our paved trails. I've seen lots more black bears trail riding, but thankfully... no grizzlies yet!

Snakes and bears...wow, I think you have to be very dedicated to our sport to brave those trail "features".

That would definitely be nerve racking.
Luckily for me, there are no snakes in Alaska.
Unluckily, there are many many bears... more this year than usual, and they do prefer the off-road trails which I happen to like too. emoticon

Yeah, that would probably be a real downer.
