One of my favorite cycling books is:

Wheels on Ice: Bicycling in Alaska 1898-1908
by Terrence Cole.

However, it is long out of print and seriously expensive if you can find it. I sent an email to the publisher asking for a new edition and another to Grant Peterson to see if he could help me get it reprinted. Sometimes parts of the book are on the internet.

The Agony and the Ecstasy: Stephen Roche's World of Cycling
by Stephen Roche

Great book about the life of professional bike racers including courtship, family life, etc. Also out of print but not as hard to find as Wheels on Ice. I used to have a signed first edition but my ex- sold it during our separation.

Not everyone's type of tea but try Spike Bike www.liegeradtouren.kontakt-mit-linse
n.

I read it episode by episode on Usenet long before the World Wide Web.

No one but I've been writing one! It's about several monumental rides in my life, not so much in terms of their difficulty or distance but their meaning in the broader journey of my life. I've written many things, but this one is fun! Let you know if I ever finish it.

"Rather train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come" (1Timothy4:7-8)

"Jesus answered, 'The most important [commandment] is, 'Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength'" (Mark 12:29-30).

I read Heft On Wheels and loved it.

I'm reading: "Bike For Life: How To Ride 100 When You're 100". I also watched a movie on Amazon called "Ride the Divide." I don't think I'll be riding the Continental Divide from Canada to Mexico on a mountain bike anytime soon, but I liked it.

Excellence is the result of caring more than others think wise, risking more than others think safe, dreaming more than others think practical, and expecting more than others think possible.

You know, with all my workouts my reading has taken a HUGE hit...rarely read these days. A while back I really enjoyed "Bike For Life: How To Ride 100 When You're 100":

Very entertaining anecdotes shared by the authors and the interviews with famous cyclists.

Interesting historical narrative about a gentleman from Pittsburgh deciding to circumnavigate the world by bike, when pneumatic tires were still new tech.
