My speedplays are so old it's not funny. I figured I may as well just change out and get used to the SPD's. I've also been known to grab a pair of shoes - get to the trail head and realize it's the WRONG pair of shoes - so having two sets of shoes with two sets of cleats would be pretty disasterous for me. :P

And thanks so much for the replies!! I was getting a little confused!

Canít you adjust the amount of play on your speedplays? You might look into that if youíre popping out too easily. So are you planning to convert from Speedplays to SPDs? Or do you plan to use SPDs in spinning class?

Hi there - All shimano spd cleats will fit the spin bikes. I faced a similar problem when I started spin classes. I ride Eggbeaters on both my mountain and road bikes - so my cleats wouldn't work in class.

Spin bikes usually take traditional spds or there are a few in my class that are set up for Look type pedals.

What I ended up doing was just finding a new pair of shoes on sale and getting spds - so now I have a pair of shoes just for spin class. It actually works out well because they just live in my gym bag and aren't nearly as trashed as the ones I wear mountain biking.

Have fun spinning - I'm a junky these days - doing a two hour class tonight.

Thought the fabulous folk on this forum would be able to answer this for me. I want SPD pedals that have have cleats that will work with my bike as well well as the spin bikes at the gym. My question - is SPD all the same thing? A Shimano pedal M520 is the same cleat as a M647... It's just the pedal shape, material, etc that is different?

I have speedplay pedals for my bike now and I like them, but I pop out too easily. I do remember when I didn't and I've had a few crashes, so I'm really not looking forward to the learning curve LOL but that's okay...
