Besides all the normal training rides each week, (1) Du @ the Dam--a duathlon in Coon Rapids Minnesota wherein participants run a 5k, ride for 14 miles, and run another 5k. (2) The Ride Across Minnesota, a 300-mile, 5-day ride for MS research that my wife and I, who has MS, take every year. This year it's on a course that suits my riding style very well so I'm hoping to ride pretty fast--for me anyway [goal is to average 18.5 or higher]. (3) The Jesse James Bike Tour, a 100-,mile, 1-day ride in Northfield MN, the town that stopped Jesse James and his gang!

"Rather train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come" (1Timothy´┐Ż4:7-8)

"Jesus answered, 'The most important [commandment] is, 'Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength'" (Mark 12:29-30).

I'm celebrating my fiftieth birthday by taking on the Lactic Edge Triathlon which starts and ends just a few blocks from my house... the second leg is a 17 mile bike ride. I still have 16 weeks three days to learn to run, to practice swimming 500 m, and to bike 17 miles as swiftly as possible (but who's counting?).

Also, hubs and I are planning on doing (a lot) more bicycle camping with the new Bob Yak. In fact we love it so we are planning on buying Yak #2 this summer (so we don't fight over who gets to pull it!)

Life has no remote... get up and change it yourself!

No planned events.

I draft marshal for Du's and Tri's often. Ride marshal charity events.

Co-Lead a group ride once a week. Do some group training rides from time to time if schedule allows. Train alone most of the time and commute to the gym.

BOWK5150 - I have signed up for TOSRV this year! It will be my first time, though. I'm a little nervous, but I have been riding with some seasoned veterans who assure me I will be fine! We have been stretching out our long rides each week, so hopefully I can handle it! We are actually from 15 miles east of Portsmouth where the first day ends and second day begins, so at least I know I will be sleeping in my own bed in between days! Good luck to you!

On last year's MS 150, I rode my first century on the first day. It was the only one for the year. The weather was great, 60 at the start of the day and 80 in the afternoon. The MS 150 I ride in is on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, the southern part of the DelMarVa peninsula. What a beautiful ride. Now that I am past the psychological barrier of a century, I would like to get at least three in this year. However, I have five of them in my sights.

Sounds like some super rides! Did the MS City to Shore in NJ couple years ago, 100 first day, 75 second. Great ride from Cherry Hill to Ocean City & back.

I have already done a pair of 50's with local cycling groups. I am planning on riding the Powhatan Century on April 22 near Richmond, VA. The Capitol to Capitol Century will be the next one on May 12. The Cap to Cap is a ride from Williamsburg to Richmond, VA. I will be riding the MS 150 on June 2-3. I plan on riding a century each day, depending on the weather. I am riding the Surry County Century in September.

Hopefully we'll start the year off with, what was my very 1st Organized Ride, The Rosedale Ride, in Austin. It also gives me a chance to spend the night with my son and his gang. That will be followed by the 2-day Senior Games, end of March, beginning April. Next will be the Fiesta Ride in April. Some local rides to be defined in May-Jun. The 7-day RAGBRAI ride end of Jul. The Hotter than Hell 100 in August. A Ride to Remember and the Hammmerfest in Sep. Outlaw Trails and Fall Foliage in October-November. Finally the Mission-to-Mission ride in San Antonio.

I wish I could do a ride in January! But I would need snow studded tires too.

The earliest I would probably do my first is April www.laconnerchamber.com/chamber_cale
nd
ar_details.cfm?id=479
The Skagit Valley Tulip Pedal, its beautiful but lots of flats and lots of wind! It was my 1st organized ride last year. Then I am planning on doing the Tour de Whatcom again this year, which was my 1st century last summer www.tourdewhatcom.com/ and the I am (waiting, wishing, hoping :) to hear back at the end of the month if I get selected from the lottery drawing for the RSVP.

I need to have training goals to keep me motivated, because there are times I can be a total slacker ....

There's going to be other training rides between now and then but haven't decided which ones yet.

I just started riding with a small group on the weekends about 20 miles and I'm a newbie to organized rides so wish me luck.

DDORN - thanks for the info on Apple Cider Century. It's about an hour or so from my house. I've been looking for an organized ride in my area but Active.com doesn't list too many. The Wounded Warrior rides have been cancelled for 2012 so I've been trying to find something.

I'm hoping my winter of P90X, TurboFire and Yoga will carry me through the winter and serve as good cross training. I'm getting on my trainer in a few weeks to start building my base miles. I hope to be ready to hit the actual road instead of trails like I have been doing.

My riding goals for 2012.

Ride to the gym as much as possible.
Do my training adapted for an old dude. Shorter, very hard intervals, very easy days, listen to my body.
Lead some group rides and teach the inexperienced the in's and out's of cycling.
Do a few fast rides with team testosterone, not every week, but a few times a year.
Ride marshal on major events, draft marshal for tri's and du's.
Dream about doing the rides that are a few days long.

A friend and I a rolling the idea around of riding the Allegheny Passage for about 10 days. I might ride TOSRV this time. I will be riding 4 or more local century rides some with Akron Bicycle Club. And the Roscoe Ramble is on my calendar. There will be other multiday events I'll participate in. I've been recently elected as on of the Akron Bicycle Club directors...I'll be expected to be there.

Planned? I just ride ;). I'd like to get 6000 miles in this year. Came close to 5000 last year.

Life's Journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting 'Holy Sh!t What a Ride!'

Nothing nailed down yet for me, but kicking around a few possibilities:

Five Hundred Miles Across New York: www.fanyride.com/

Bike Ride Across Georgia: www.brag.org/

Probably return to the New York City Century: nyccentury.org/

DEFINITELY return for my 3rd or 4th Great Finger Lakes Bike Tour: www.southerntierbicycleclub.org/fing
er
lakestour.html

And possibly return to my hometown area for the Apple Cider Century: www.applecidercentury.com/

No way will I do ALL of these...hoping to nail either the FANY or BRAG, but not both...the wallet doth protest too much! :-)

Hoping my Spinning classes, stationary bike & elliptical workouts, occasional walk / jogs along with upper body strength training will find me ready to roll when the weather cooperates!

I signed up for the lottery drawing for the RSVP, last week! shop.cascade.org/content/events/rsvp Hoping to get selected. I did my 1st century last summer, and I can see a lot of "learning mistakes" I made on the ride and training. This winter I have been doing P90X and TaeBo to stay in shape and hopefully to build some more muscles, in my core to avoid the back pain, and in my legs to really be able to have some power to climb hills. I hate to sound like a "whiner" but I do have some real issues with being in the cold (I am truly allergic to it - hives the whole bit ) so I am hopeful that spring will come earlier and I can get out side and build my base miles. Does anyone else have any rides planned this year? How are you staying in shape as winter settles in? I joined the Cascade Bike Club but they are to far South for me to train with so I am also planning on joining my local club so I can work within a group - apparently drafting is huge help on long rides :0) but you need friends out on the ride with you too share it with. emoticon
