I starting racking up lots of miles on my recumbent in December and noticed that my calves were tight after long rides. I did some stretching but not enough. Next thing I know my right heel is hurting. I keep my right foot clipped in at stops so it is the foot that takes the most pounding when starting.
I did a little research on the web and it looked like I might have plantar fascitis. There are lots of gadgets that you can buy that say they will help with PF. But I decided that it was best to see my doctor. The doctor confirmed that I have PF. He prescribed some $8 soft heel cups that added extra cushioning under the heel of my foot. He also told me to not waste my $$ on all those gadgets. He said I could continue to take anti-inflammatories but they werenít really needed.
That was Wednesday and now itís Friday and the pain is almost gone!!
The morale of the story: stretch and remember that knowledge (what my doctor has) is not the same as information (what the internet provided).
Do not look where you fell, but where you slipped.
