I also suffer from PF. The first time I got it I did some extensive stretching exercises and it alleviated it. But it flared up again the next year and neither stretching or 3 shots of cortisone could relieve it. I am flat footed so I had some custom orthotics made for me by the podiatrist. As soon as I began using them regularly my PF went away and hasn't returned.

Hi KJEANNE,

I have suffered with PF and have high arches. Orothodics
have helped me out. It was some doctor in the San Fernando
valley, lost track. They especially help out with running.
I'm on my feet a lot being a teacher. With an insert, you
can use them in your bike shoe while riding.

It takes quite awhile to get over it. Best of luck.

Kimi:

Thanks for the reminder that there are alternative therapies available. I was seeing an acupuncturist for a while and he helped with some of my chronic conditions such at allergies. But then we moved. I need to find a new acupuncturist near my home and start treatments again.

I have also been meaning to try massage place I have seen nearby.

Hey Kellie,

I totally agree that going to the doctor is the best idea. I also supplement my health and wellness with focused acupuncture and sports massage therapy ; not the candles and aromatherapy type that is for mental health. Sports massage is really deep tissue massage from a Sports Therapist. It is awesome how it helped my recovery

So true...and I am usually guilty of self-diagnosis and treatment. Maybe I'll finally go see someone about my hip. I am glad you got your issue resolved, and so quickly, too!

I starting racking up lots of miles on my recumbent in December and noticed that my calves were tight after long rides. I did some stretching but not enough. Next thing I know my right heel is hurting. I keep my right foot clipped in at stops so it is the foot that takes the most pounding when starting.

I did a little research on the web and it looked like I might have plantar fascitis. There are lots of gadgets that you can buy that say they will help with PF. But I decided that it was best to see my doctor. The doctor confirmed that I have PF. He prescribed some $8 soft heel cups that added extra cushioning under the heel of my foot. He also told me to not waste my $$ on all those gadgets. He said I could continue to take anti-inflammatories but they werenít really needed.

That was Wednesday and now itís Friday and the pain is almost gone!!

The morale of the story: stretch and remember that knowledge (what my doctor has) is not the same as information (what the internet provided).
