As far as spinning, I meant a spinning class. I work HARD in those classes, though the first & last mile or so are just 'spinning'...like recovery. That's why I, personally, do the 'times .8' to log those miles.

I would log the miles ridden but I keep them separate so that I know what is my actual road miles.

As far as spinning bikes .... at our Y they do have a cyclometer which will keep track of mileage and speeds, cadence and HR.

Bill as for an easy spin would that not be the same as a recovery ride? Do you count your mileage on recovery rides? Do you do recovery rides. If you do why wouldn't your spins count?

Just my 2 cents.

I log it as time. Were I to ride rollers, though, I might be tempted to log it as mileage. Haven't, yet, though.

When I did indoor miles I kept it simple: if I was easy spinning, I did not count it; if I had some power, I counted it. To me, easy spinning is like going for a casual walk. The aerobic effect is non-existant.

I've logged my spinning miles & miles on an execise bike at 8/10ths of a mile (so 20 miles will be posted as 16). I did this because of how far I can go in a mile on 'real' bike & my effort level. It feels fair to me!

I started on the recumbent exercise bike at the Y then bought my trike. I just log time on the exercise bike. The recumbent exercise bike at home has no electonics so I can only log time on it.

It's worth discussing. Exercise on a bike indoors might be best logged in time. Spinning classes don't have odometers.

Good Idea....

I've hit my personal goal of 750 road/trail miles for this year. In preparation for the cold Western NY weather that is soon coming this way, my wife and I have acquired an exercise bike to keep the activity level up over the winter months.

What are the thoughts on whether or not exercise bike miles are legitimate and should be logged as cycling miles?
