i would take it to the bike shop, something must be releasing the cable to go from one all the way down. you may need a new shifter.

Something is causing it to shift. Check the cables; maybe something is interfering with or pinching the rear cable. Also sounds like it might be time to take it in for a tune up.

Experienced a most weird thing: Lately on my MB the rear derailer just automatically changes from the largest to the smallest cog. I have to physially hold the shift lever in place to prevent this. No amount of adjustment seems to change the situation. Any advice. Please, I need to get back the control of the situation!
