What a cool idea! Thanks for sharing. New way to see various cities and not one I know I ever think of when traveling.
Okay, no responses to this question when I posted it. Maybe I should have asked a different question. Has anyone cycled in New York City?
Today I can say, yes I have. It was the best part of the trip to NY. We rented heavy Trek hybrids at a place on the Hudson River at 42nd St, rode along the Greenway north, then turned around and rode to Battery Park in lower Manhatten. The weather was beautiful.
There are a number of options for renting bikes in NY, including joining a tour group.
We had a blast, and I highly recommend this to anyone visiting the city.
PS: I was able to get info on rentals by googling Cycling New York City

I am going to be in New York City in September and would like to see Central Park on a bike! Does anyone have advice on how to choose a rental company. Should I reserve ahead of time, or wait till I get there to look the places over? Are the group tours better, or is it easy to find your way around on your own?
There are several rental places online, and group tours of the park. There's also a tour of the city offered.
I am looking forward to this part of my trip! I don't want to get to the city and find no bike's available.
This is also to be my first trip to the city! Comments and advice are very welcome.
