LOL at Kitty. Unfortunately this doesn't seem to hinder my dish washing abilities as much as I might like.
Here is my update: I'm wearing a figure 8 on my shoulders day and night. It fatigues the muscle right at a point behind my shoulder blade like there is no tomorrow but it stabilizes everything.
Yesterday, I ventured to the gym to use the recumbent bicycle because I could not take being sedentary any longer. My mental health and attitude suffers if I don't get my endorphins up after a few days. Not so easy to dress and undress alone but I managed and did fine. It felt SO GOOD to get my blood pumping again.
OK, so just talked to my dad. He says I probably tore some soft tissue, maybe have a little hematoma in there that will be a little painful until it is absorbed, also the muscles are spasming around the injury so that makes it feel worse.
He said if there is no deformation (there is not) that first, I shouldn't freak out, and second, there isn't anything to do for it but wear a sling instead of the figure 8 and take it easy. Any other doctor would tell me the same thing- there isnt much to do for soft tissue damage or collarbone fractures for that matter.
He also said he probably would have done exactly the same - you start feeling good and forget to be careful and wham, you set yourself back. I guess I'm a chip off the old block.
I'm going to try to at least take a walk this afternoon to get moving. Wearing the sling, of course.
ooooh guys - not what I want to hear. I am in Italy and I am not an EU resident, so I do not have public insurance and even if I did the healthcare system here sucks(take my word for it, you do not want socialized medicine in the US). I would not trust them to diagnose let alone treat anything.
Fortunately my father is a radiologist - I am going to call him on Skype as soon as it gets late enough to call (he is in California). Until then I'm trying a sling and basically just sitting here or laying down.

Go to the doctor. I've heard that sound before. I'd been thrown from my horse into a fence, broke ribs. A month later, I decided to saddle a horse and when I pulled up on the cinch, I heard snapping/tearing.. I had rebroke everything and had to start healing all over again.

It's possible that you've just had some scar tissue break free, which would be no big deal in the long run. It's also important to know that there is a really important bundle of nerves, called the brachial plexus, that come out of your neck and run just under your collarbone and then go down to supply your arm and hand. What this means is that if you've done something to these nerves, and it gets worse, you could be risking permanent nerve damage. I suspect what's going on is somewhere in between these two extremes, but it's not something to mess around with-call your doctor!
Get to a doctor and have it x-rayed TODAY. My eyes are tearing up in pain just reading your post! Anything that painful sounds like more than a strain or pinched nerve. Don't wait. If it's fractured and you bump it or move it the wrong way it might make things worse.

Guys, I am so upset. I fractured my left collar bone 11 days ago, not a separation just a 3/4 fracture. I've broken this one before and had it plated, then the plate and screws removed a year later, so in comparison this was NOTHING. In fact it did not even bother me after 5 days to go bike riding, so I did. I did 40km saturday and 20 sunday. No problems and it bothered me less and less each day.
But last night, I reached to the right with my left arm, twisting my body so my arm was across my chest. As I moved forward, I heard a crunching noise (bleh!) and pain shot through my shoulder. I was in agony half the night. This morning the figure 8 for my fracture does nothing to alleviate any pain.In fact it feels more like nerve pain than anything.
I can feel the bone is not separated, and the pain goes through to my back, to the top of my left shoulder blade. If I get VERY relaxed there is no pain, but the weight of my arm makes my muscles tense - then front of my chest has this sort of numb pain that shoots across the top of the break and just sort of around the chest area underneath.
Gosh I feel like an idiot. I wonder if I refractured the break, the pain is associated with it. But I'm confused because this is far worse than the original injury a week and a half ago. Could this be a pinched nerve? Torn muscle? What was the tearing or crunching sound? Any ideas?
I'm also discouraged because this whole week was to be a MTB training week. Now I can do nothing!
