Hey thanks for the tip. The 10" measurement is just a shade too close for comfort between the upright post of the rack and the spare tire, so I put off ordering it. I figured there was some kind of extension gizmo out there somewhere. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

It probably won't fit unless you use a hitch extension:

I had to do this to fit my Thule onto my GTI. Go to

to see pictures. I welded the extension on rather than just bolting it for strength and so that I didn't have to worry about an additional locking bolt for security.

Anybody out there have a 2008 RAV4 and a Thule Helium Hitch bike rack? How is the clearance between the rack and the spare tire on the back? I want to buy one, but from the specs, it looks like there isn't much room between the spare tire and the rack!
