I do think SP calculations of calories lost is correct. If you check mine log out there are times where I range from 2,000 to 5,000 calorie deficit. I do not think this is possible.

I know some others have commented on this as well in earlier posts.

Someone had come up with that if you use 40 cals of every mile biked that that would be a better indicator of calories lost. Not a perfect science but close.

Also on the info of Cruiser Bikes .... I know I have said this in the past but do not be afraid to check craigslist in your area for these bikes. You might be surprised what you will find.

You mean my fitness log? I am embarassed to say I have not kept any logs for some time. But when I did I just picked the options from the menu to put them in. Never changed anything. I do have a wee computer that gives me speed and distance, but that's it.

Now when I did keep logs my walking was what burned my calories. I work for UPS and I walk 7 or so hrs per day, burns a bit-o-calories...also makes me wonder why I'm still overweight...but I think that just came from a crappy diet, which is what I came here to fix, so now I am losing.

Oh Ok, I was looking at your fitness log and was wondering how you get to the amount of calories you have been burning?
I cycle at that speed and wear a heart rate monitor but never burned 299 calories in 18 minutes.
That seems like quite a bit..

Where do you that info from? I went to fitness log and typed in cycling at the speed you mentioned for the time you went but it didn't add up to that much.
I even spin for an hour at a time high intensity and burn about 800 calories on a real good day, usually more like 600-750

Nope. I'm one of those compulsively uncomplicated types, too much thought into my working out and I don't want to work out anymore...or maybe I'm just lazy, ha!

I have a Giant Suede, which is rather similar to the Electra Townies. Same principle with your feet flat on the ground, a relaxed position. I love it just for tooling around or riding to work.

If I want to really work out I use my other bike, it's a Trek fitness bike (FX 7.2).

Does anyone out there own a cruiser bike? I've been test riding Electras and Nirves and would love to hear people's opinions and experiences with them. thx.
