Since riding more with my new bike, I only recently became aware of the widespread ignorance regarding cyclists and roadways, along with a lot of hatred. Many don't even know the laws regarding cyclists on the road. To them we have no right to be on the road, and are just slowpokes in their way that they need to get around as fast as possible.
I can't imagine this petition going anywhere, or at least I hope not.
This is just completely insane. where do people come up with such crap. maybe we need to ban more CARS. I am sure cars cause far more accidents and fatalities than bikes.
Oh wow. They can't be serious?!? So what about people who don't own cars, or don't drive? They are never supposed to leave their houses?
Woowsies ..... Here in Oshkosh we are trying to get the city fathers to petition for stimulus money to provide bike lanes. We have a University here as well which would benefit from bike lanes as well. Some of the newer subdivisions do not have sidewalks so bike lanes would be beneficial as well.
Our club and LBS are trying to lobby hard for this.
Why someone would comment that cycling is a hobby? ..... I would love for them to come on our race pace ride on Wed. night and see how long they could keep up? Heck I think the warm up speed would be too fast for them.
This is going to be interesting where the Iowa state legislature will fall on this issue?
Link to original petition fixed...
I saw this last week - I'm watching with interest to see where it leads.

I'm not sure how effective this approach will be ("citizens of the world"?) but if you're interested ...

I'd rather be sitting on my bike thinking about God than sitting in church thinking about my bike ...
You might have to copy & paste one line at a time - I was able to get to the story.
I certainly hope that the cycling citizens and the common sense citizens of Iowa step up. However, if they want to ban bikes on roads that trucks use, then the next step would be to ban trucks on roads that cars use.
Wouldn't it make more sense to put in a bike lane? Sounds like a good case for some stimulus money.
