Lovey, Thank you for the great story. Congrats to you and your son for your longest ride to date. And I have ridden that loop--it's hillier than one would expect! Don't feel bad about losing track of where to go next. That's happened to me before on that loop, too. But I am so glad to hear about people like Reggie and his wife here in the Baltimore area.

It certainly is nice to hear stories about good things that happen in this world. Cyclists are truly some of the kindest people around and I am sure there will be a special rewards for Reggie and his wife. Congratulations to you and your son for finishing the ride.

That's great that someone stopped to help you and your son out, good you got home safely. Sounds like a good ride in spite of a little mishap!

As an adult I realized just how much my folks had helped me on my journey to reach adulthood. I asked my father how I could ever repay him. His reply was to do the same or more for my own children.

As you suggested, perhaps someone helped him along the way, he's paying that individual back by helping you. We should all aim to do the same.

Did I forget to mention that my chain fell off but I fixed it. When I got home, the code for my combination lock wouldn't work. In the end, I had to hammer it off. I am biking in the morning again on a different route.

I try to help others even when it's not convenient because I believe in the motto "pay it forward". That man did not have to help and maybe someone helped him along the way a long time ago when he started. I hope I can help someone like that one day.

I am training for a 18 mile hilly ride as part of my tri-training.

I have been biking in my town and got up to 10 miles (5 loops) at Columbia Gateway Drive (for those of you who live in Howard County).

Today I took my 10 year old with me to ride the BWI trail. It is an 11-mile trail loop that goes around the local airport. It was out first time on the trail and it's a good trail just to go out and ride. I miscalculated how long it would take us. We took a wrong turn but only got less than a quarter mile when I realized we missed the turn. Then at mile 8, part of the trail went on the road. I didn't know that and stopped and asked a couple if we were on the right track. They said yes and gave us some landmarks to look for. About 1/4 mile further own the trail, the husband (Reggie) caught up to us and said his wife was worried and wanted to make sure we didn't get lost and that we made it back to our car before dark and the rain.

We made it before any rain but dark caught us about a mile (maybe 1.5)out. My son's seat kept sliding down little by little and Reggie stopped to adjust it. He called his wife to meet him at the lot where we were parked. He rode those 4 miles with us with no complaints on how slow we were going. It was really nice of him. He gave me and my son pointers on riding. When it got dark, he had headlights and other lights on his bike that I didn't have. He rode upfront so we could see. My son was exhausted and we kept encouraging him knowing the end was near.
Reggie was a blessing. I thanked him and his wife and told them God has a special blessing for helping two strangers out. He said that's what bikers do.

My son and I both rode our longest distance today.
