What a great story--not just about being a good neighbor, or teaching your daughter about acts of service, but also about never being too old to learn to ride a bike, and also about what joy there is in, at the age of 52, feeling like a kid by learning to ride a bike.
If you have health, you probably will be happy, and if you have health and happiness, you have all the wealth you need, even if it is not all you want. -Elbert Hubbard-
I'm in Ottawa and everyone around here calls it ATB or Around the Bay...
I actually have Paris-Ancaster on the list as well - we have one here which is 10k longer and just as rutted up. The "Hell of the North" in Toronto is also in there - the muddier and more evil the terrain, the better.
In God we trust, all others bring data. - W. Edwards Demings
If God invented marathons to keep people from doing anything more stupid, the triathlon must have taken Him completely by surprise. -P.Z. Pearce
Here I live in Hamilton and I've never called it ATB, but instead locally we call it "the Bay" or "the Bay race". Maybe it has something to do with the greater use of acronyms in the US compared to Canada.
Well, I shouldn't mix two topics, but just wanted to report two personal goals: - 2 weeks ago I ran in the oldest foot race in North America (older than Boston) Around the Bay 3 x 10 km relay. Our team finished 20 out of 250, and I did my very hilly leg in 57 mins. Anything less than 6 min/km is good for me!! - My nine year old daughter and I taught our 52 year old neighbour how to ride a bike in 2 lessons over 3 hours without any falling! She road around the block grinning ear to ear. Next goal - get her comfortable and skilled enough to ride to the grocery store (she doesn't have a driver's license)
