I wish I knew how he got that way. I had to laugh when I first encountered him, but he gave me a run for my money ;)

Three legs and one eye?! Now that's a dog with spirit.

It seems that as soon as it warms up and bike weather starts, everyone (and their dog) hits the streets. Last spring I was constantly chased by a dog with three legs and one eye when I went to my favorite place to ride. I had to give him credit for keeping up, so didn't have the heart to report him. It will be interesting to see what he can do this year.

OH NO! On all counts! The dog was not in the wrong at all. The owner was! How very sad for all involved. The dogs in our neighborhood go through cycles. Someone calls animal control about once a season and the dogs get picked up. Then new dogs wander in. We don't live on a fancy side of town and so people get dogs all of the time and just wind up turning them loose. It is really sad. Especially for us since we lost our dog who was family just this past October to cancer. It really hits us hard.

One of my bike shop customers got hurt real badly while chased by a dog. On one of our favorite rides there was this dog that always gave chase. We tried calling Animal Control but since this was outside of city limits there were no leash laws. My customer crashed while trying to sprint away from the dog. At first the owner said that he would pay to fix the bike and medical bills. When we sent the bill for repairs he balked saying that it couldn't possibly cost that much to fix a bicycle. When the injured cyclist went to see a specialist the dog owner accused him of unnecessarily running up the medical bills. Pointing out that the cyclist crashed trying to evade his dog instead of from an attack he claimed that he was not culpable and that he only offered to pay the bills to be nice and that now that he was being taken advantage of he would not pay anything.

Hearing this story one of my other customers who was also tired of this dog terrorizing cyclists went out and shot the dog. I didn't approve of this, really the dog didn't do anything wrong; he was just following his territorial instincts. It was the owner that should have been punished.

Dogs! I could go on and on, but it is more about the owners than the dogs. Like the people who just laugh and tell you when their dog leaps out as you ride by, "Don't worry--he is friendly." Don't they get it that a dog nipping at your heels or getting in front of you and jumping is an accident waiting to happen to both you and their dog?

If you have health, you probably will be happy, and if you have health and happiness, you have all the wealth you need, even if it is not all you want.

If you have feral dogs in your area, call animal care & control. It's dangerous having them roam as they can pick up and pass on rabies, create a hazard for cars, and are a possible danger to children. I am a dog lover and it really makes me angry to see people get dogs and this is how they end up. The dogs always suffer.

I have found that when riding a bike, if you stop and get off, the dog stops chasing and usually won't bother you. After all the fun is over. If the dog still seems aggressive, I try to keep my bike between me and the dog and slowly walk away. Sometimes I carry dog cookies when I run or ride just in case. If you throw them a couple of cookies far apart from each other it will give you some time to walk your bike far enough away to get back on and ride away.

Stay safe and I agree that the drivers in the cars are probably more dangerous than the dogs!

Well that would be fine if these animals actually belonged to anyone. I live on a side of town where the number of loose animals is almost more than the number of owned animals. It is pretty sad. Most of those who OWN their animals aren't good to them. It bothers the animal lover in me to no end. These dogs are sort of just the neighborhood's dogs...people leave food for them and they just wander the entire place. My hubby says if they do it again though we are calling the pound on them. *sigh*

My neighborhood is the same way. I wished people would keep their pets contained because this year, when they don't, I AM calling the pound! I AM GOING TO get my exersize in this year with NO excuses on my part! So, sorry, neighbors if you don't like it, KEEP YOUR PETS IN/Chained up.

Well we usually don't ride as late as we did today. These guys are usually too sleepy in the heat or the cold to do more than glance at us during the day. *giggle* I was more frustrated with the cars because we had to slow down.

Don't you just hate when that happens! It will get worse in spring too. The dogs will really get frisky.

Well so much for our nice ride tonight. We started off doing really well. Then at our usual haunt, the lake just down from our house, there were cars coming everywhere. There was a basketball game in the community center. So we decided to head back up towards the university. On the way the neighborhood dog pack, which during the day just watches us go by without even acknowledging us, took off after us. When we got to the university well tonight is the first night of softball season! So there were hundreds of cars there too. So our ride got cut short to 7.5 miles. DARN STUPID HAZARDS. *giggle*
