Sounds like an awesome deal. Blackburn has a good reputation, as does Bike Doctor. I think you'll be happy!

It's a Blackburn TrakStand Ultra. It retails at $300. Bike Doctor was selling it new @ $200. I paid $175.

I haven't tried it yet. It has mixed reviews online. IF it sucks I am taking it back or calling the company.

I bought a new multi tool, $80 shorts, 4 shirts, gloves, socks, a handlebar bag for commuting, shoe covers for cold weather. I spent $70 for everything! I walked out of there so happy!

Have you tried out your trainer yet? What kind did you get? I wish I had gotten a chance to say hello to you guys!

For anyone else who gets a chance to go to one of these things, GO!

There is one in Chesterfield, Virginia. Sunday, March 1st, 2009 9:00 amó2:00 pm. See the link in my earlier post...

I just heard about that today. I would love to see what they have! Do you know the times? I know it at the Ag Center in Westminster, isn't it?

I am not a fan of Race Pace--I had a bad experience with their honesty level. But I like Princeton--if you have a connection, stick with them. The Bike Doctor on Camp Meade Road is good too.

My all time favorite is Joe's Bike Shop in Mt Washington. He's my go-to guy. They also sponsor the "She Got Bike" event you were looking at in the fall. There are others, but I can't think of any closer to you.

EDIT: I found the link and answered my own questions...

I live in Columbia and Normally use Race Pace. I don't know what other groups in my area use but most of the tri club uses Princeton Sports. They are also one of the club's main sponsors. The bike guy is at Princeton Sports.

Anyone going to the big Bike show/Swap in Westminster this weekend?

DR...well I guess I cannot take you down my trail, but it was nice to plug my LBS!

I was asking Lovey--she said that someone in her tri group recommended a bike shop for her. I live less than 30 minutes from her, and know most of the shops in her area! I was just curious.

But I love plugging my favorite LBS, too...

LOL, these multi person chats can get confusing. (And I am very tired today)

You may want to check reviews online. One I just checked gave the Specialized Globe 3.8* vs Cannodale Quick at 4.3*

Taking test rides and having a good fit are definitely 'must dos' IMHO.

For the purposes you outlined I think you would be happy with the Quick. I do not however have any knowledge of the Specialized Globe.

Happy riding!!

I hope to do maybe 1 sprint and a mini tri per year at most during the summer. My main goal however is to ride for fitness and with my kids.

The Cannondale 4, 5 or 6 range between $420 and $600. I went to a bike shop and spoke to someone my tri club recommended. He has a reputation in recommending bikes based on your goals. He showed me a few in my price range even though I didnít tell him what that range was.

It was between the Cannondale Quick and the Specialized Globe. I liked the Cannondale better. I am going to test ride them this weekend.

I have a Cannondale Quick. I bought it about 7 weeks ago as a Winter bike. I also have a Cannondale Synapse (road bike). I do love Cannondales and the engineering/design.

I only have around 200 mile on the Quick but have really enjoyed it and would recommend it, It is the bike that my LBS suggested and has been great for riding up steep switchbacks, through gravelled roads, snow puddles and dry leaves. It is not quite as smooth a ride as the Synapse but I am happy with it for the all around conditions of Winter riding.

I don't know about that particular Cannondale but we are pretty much a Cannondale family. I love them to death! I have one on hold for me as soon as we can afford to get it. Mine is an F6. My hubby rides an F600 from 2004. I've looked at their road bikes but haven't really looked hard because we are sticking with mountain for now. Go test ride one. All of our shops here allow that...at least in their immediate vicinity!

I am not familiar with the bike, but I recommend getting fitted for the bike at REI, and making sure you can test ride it before you buy it. It needs to be right for *you*!
