Thanks for the site. Very interesting. It sounds like it would be fun to do. Of course your bike handling skills must be in tip top shape. It also sounds like you would have an advantage if you had a team of riders with you???

Congrats. I also reached a milestone today nothing like any of you, but rode 16 miles, averaging 10mph. A month ago couldt do 4 miles. The country roads I take around the house has lots of big hills, Kept my heart rate between 120-142 for over a hour and a half

Some day I think you and I should enter a race together since we have the same philosophy and approach to racing ..... I do not want to finish last. So may be together we can squeeze that one rider in between us to make sure we are not last;-) LOL

Since I'm new to this sport .... what is a criterion race?

Like the others, when I race I race against myself or just aim to finish, depending. Multisport I race against myself, in a bike race it's "not finish last" generally.

Jim - I don't like to race that often. I'll normally aim to peak at the early and late in the multisport season and so next year that'll be for my Oly Duathlons. So next year it'll be 2 Oly Dus and 2 Sprints I think. Sprints are just fun now, I have a good enough base that I can slot them in as a hard training day.

I'll enter 3-4 running races (10k-HM) and a couple of bike races (non-TT) per season. I'm planning on racing my first crit next year, should be fun. Now that Cross season has arrived and multisport season is done I'll be racing cross every other week just for fun.

In God we trust, all others bring data.

Please .... remember I started riding again after 20 yrs of absence at the end of April this past year. I started out averaging 14 mph. This has been a long process and a lot of work and determination. I have pushed myself to limits I thought I would have never been able to do and achieve.

Yes .... I will race but my goal is to finish. I will be competing against possibly pro's and people half my age.

But like you .... you have to get started and that is the biggest step .... racing is going to be my other big step. I may find that racing is not my cup of tea but I'm thinking that that will not be the case;-)

That's where I was a little over a year ago. I'm nowhere near the others but never thought back then I'd be doing 50 miles Saturday!

Man oh Man I thought I was doing good going 12 miles without stopping and only averaging 10.6 mph. lots of hills that i barley crawl up but made it. Have no idea what you are talking about cadence. I think I am a amateur in here with lots of Pros. But I do enjoy it and do it for cardio only. Who knows I might get to a point where I ride with other people or even enter a race.

I'm hoping to get in 2 or 3 races next summer. I'm not sure if the time frame will allow it.

I know I would like to do the super sprint tri on July 4th after I do some decent training for .... to see how well I can do a tri. Remember this is the one I did in my wife's place without any proper training and was able to finish 200 M swim; 9 mile bike, and 2 mile run in 59 mins and 10 secs.

There is a race July 5th 6 miles from home .... I do not think I should do a Tri one day and a 35 mile race the next day????

In mid August there is a race around Lake Winnebago (around an 86 mile course)

I should see if there is one in June and in September as well.

How long should you go in between races???

Awesome job Jim! Next year you'll be pulling the group...

Nice to see that you hit your goals this year too - maybe you should start racing as well?

thats awesome, congradualtions!!!

and depending on your weight, you could master the flats and rollers and be able to smoke smaller cyclists who are good climbers...its a weight gravity ratio, my teamate was telling me about it a couple of weeks ago, e always leaves me on a climb, but he has a hard time keeping up with me on the flats

Hi All

I was able to stay with the big studs and studettes tonight. My average speed was 21.6 mph. I almost lost them in the last 3 miles. I was loosely holding my wheel and I was cotton mouthed. I knew if I drank some heed I would lose them. I have not master to drink and pedal at the same time yet;-) But this challenged me to sprint until I caught up with them and I was able to. It was not easy but I did it and I did it on my bike;-)

I worked on just keeping my cadence between 90-105 before shifting. I tried to keep myself at 90 for hills but I think I dipped to mid 80's. If 80 is still a good cadence than I will not worry about going faster then on hills.

I was proud of myself tonight .... it is a big accomplishment for me tonight. A goal well worth fighting for and reaching.

Yes .... I did let the Mrs know that I kept up with the big boys tonight;-) LOL
