I lived in Mesa; right next to Temp. There's a great dancing place there called Grahams Central Station. What a small world. I could only take it there for about a year or so...I moved from Orlando,Fl to there...and just not a desert person. Biking here is beautiful! I'm doing my first century in October. As I get better, I want to ride across the Golden Gate Bridge. That has to be the most awesome experience. I love it here....for now ;-)

Eeyore0566 - We just got back from a quickie road trip to Tempe and Phoenix. We got a good dose of the 110+ weather!! I was thankful to get back to the cool 90-100 degrees of Southern CA!! LOL! I don't know how people survive out there, let alone exercise! Whew! We waited until about 8pm to go out and exercise. It was kind of fun working out at dusk.

Luckily like you, we cool off at night too. Makes for a nice evening.

Hi PLAYINGOUTDOORS! I'm in northern CA and our weather cools off considerably in the evening.

Prior, I lived in AZ...just outside of Phx, and although I like warm, I couldn't stand the about 110 degree days anymore! I use to get up before the sun to ride on those days. Once the sun came out, it was too hot for me. Wearing shades for some reason helped me think it was cooler. LOL and lots of water. I took up spin with the heat and, I know it's not road biking, and I love it as well.

good luck getting into your cadence

LOL jhollnagel! Your memory is not far off. Our winters/springs really do have only 10 no make that 7 sunny days! Falls are a bit better with maybe 12 sunny days and summers more. How much more depends on the year.

Captiv8ed, a neighbor! Oh yes, 81 is so much better and thank goodness our hot spell has passed. Last night it cooled off nicely and today we have the marine layer here this morning which should burn off by noon. High today only 80. Much much better!

I doubt that y'all would consider our January or February's cold. It might get down to high 40s. We bundle up. I am inspired by this thread and the team. I hope I can get an early start tomorrow and maybe avoid some sun.

We had a cold wet spring. 40s all March, April, and May even half of June and without any transition like a switch that you turn on and off it jumped to HOT. Saturday and Sunday in the 90s here in the Seattle area. Of course we weren't used to it but I still got on my bike and road. Saturday, dumb me, I started my ride at 2:30 in the afternoon. During the heat of the day. I paid for it that night with severe leg cramps. Now I am getting out early in the day before the heat builds up.

Still I love it! After the spring we had this is heaven! I have gone out for a ride every single day since June 20th. Road or mountain I rode!

Now this is paradise to me!

Pedal On!

Sue

How cold can it really get in Houston during Jan. & Feb.???? I think I would trade you coldness any day during those days.

I'll give you a hint I'm from Oshkosh, WI. Yes our winters can get 30 below zero some times.

Hi girls, I am from KC, MO. It gets very hot and humid here too. I agree, I ride really early in the mornings. (I get up earlier to ride , than to go to work)Drink lots of fluid.
We ride all year around, as long as it is above 18 degrees, and no ice or snow on the road.

I am planning to get hardcore like my dh and ride in the dark and rain this winter, so you can think of me then.

{Grin} If we didn't just suck it up (and suck up the fluids) there would be very few riding days. You would enjoy the whining about it being cold when the temps go below 60!

Yep, in Houston you just have to suck it up and ride, don't ya? I am in Washington state and we don't get many days this hot, so I can just hang out and whine ;)

Houston - hot an humid is the general condition here. We bike all year round although some of us don't like it when it gets "cold" in Jan. and February

Lots and lots of sunscreen, lots and lots and lots of fluids and an early morning start. I may try twilight next week but I think I'm fairly acclimated to the heat.

I want to ride but it is hot and sunny :( I get migraines from the sun and heat. Last night dh and I took a midnight ride, and it may be the same tonight.
How do you cope with riding in the heat?
