Thank you! I just sent you an email with a couple of questions! I'm reasonably happy so far, but I'm really bloated (I look about 3-4 months pregnant), and I'm constantly starving!

Sage,

My Dr. put me on it because my once clockwork light easy cycles were coming every couple weeks and lasting 10 plus days and were so heavy my pernicious anemia was becoming a serious health issue. I was also moody and PMSy for the first time in my life. The Loestrin fixed all of that. It has been a huge relief.

Sage - My Dr. put me on it about 6 months ago and it was the best thing I could have done. The frist 2 cycles on it were a bit hard, but it was far better than the alternatives I was facing. I feel great. I would at least give it 2 full pill cycles before you stop taking it.

I had a D & C yesterday.

I learned a lot in the process. From what I understand:

Estrogen creates that roundness(breasts, abdomen, building up soft stuff for a baby to grow in, and then releasing the egg each month. Progesterone causes the riddance of it all, the period.

When you begin to miss periods, it is because your brain is telling your body it doesn't need to have babies anymore. Progesterone is the first to take the order seriously. Estrogen is desperate, keeps releasing all that fertility goddess stuff. (Hence the "these CAN'T be mine" breasts and "meno-pooch").

It seems when you miss periods in perimemopause, the lining builds up continuosly, and never gets released.

(I had missed every 2 or 3 for a year, and then 5 in a row.)

I think the low dose pills (progesterone) help keep the lining shedding each month.

I'm not sure what the soy porducts are supposed to do, but I think it's time to find out!

Sorry if it's TMI...

Yes, congratulations on the quitting smoking. That is a hard job all by itself.

I am not allowed to use hormone replacements or birth control because of blood clotting I have had in the past and because my mother has breast cancer and the doctors don't want to increase the risk.

My doctor has suggested that since hormones won't do for me, I ought to try the soy products. Estroven and some others were recommended. I haven't yet because he just suggested them last Friday and I have still to find some in our local stores. But, that may be an option for you, since your doctor won't let you go on actual hormones. Ask your doctor first though.

Congrats on quitting smoking! That's great!

I used to be with the full moon like clockwork, and my periods were about 3-4 days. One heavy day, and the rest very easy. Now I get two heavy days and about 8 or more days of spotting. I'm still very regular though. Supposedly Loestrin shortens periods because there are 24 pills every month instead of the usual 28.

Well see mine used to be every 27 days like clockwork, now, they are any where from 32 days to 47 days apart and usually only last 4 or 5 days, but about every 4 months they last about 21 days, not heavy , just enought to aggravate me. Like i said its mainly the moods for me. My doctor wouldnt give me too much of anything before because of my age and smoking, but since I quit about 27 days ago, maybe she can do or give me something. One more reason, being a woman sucks!!!

Loestrin 24 is a very low dose birth control pill. My Dr. put me on it because my periods have been really long (about 10 days) and I've been very moody.

I have never heard of it what symptoms is it supposed to be for? I will be 47 next month and my doctor keeps telling me I am not pre menopausal but my periods are all out of wack, the only other real symptom I can tell is the moodiness. I HAVE TO FIND something for it. I feel like I am jekyl and hyde, and I absolutely hate myself for how bad I am sometimes. I am amazed how a person can get so totally BIT___Y and mean, and know it and u cant stop yourself. I dont want to torture my hubby and kids, waht can I do? I do not want to take any hormone replacement crap I hear about, but I dont like the person I am with these mood swings. I just want to crawl under a rock when i get like that so i dont loose my temper or say something i might regret later. i guess i need to go back to my doctor or switch doctors.

I started on it four days ago. I'm exhausted! Working out has been torture, although I've gotten through it. I know it takes a while for your body to adapt, so I'm not too worried about it, but I'm wondering what other peoples' experiences have been.

It does seem like it's shortened my period and I'm not moody, even though I'm under a lot of stress right now.
