I would settle for a more active team. There doesn't seem to be a lot of chatting going on.

I've been a member of this group for a while but am just now getting back to it.

I am 5 1/2 years out from surgery. I originally list 104 lb. But have now put back on bat. 25 in the past 18 mo. due to some serious stress and emotional eating. On Nov. 2010 i decided to put on the breaks and start a journey to a better me. To do that I realized that I had to go back to following the rules. For me that means the following:
Making sure that I take my supplements every day ( I even have this as something I track)
Drinking 8 glasses of water a day. For me this means having a 20 oz water bottle with me at all times. I psych myself out with it. If I drink 3 1/2 bottles worth then I've had mybwater fornthe day.
Eating atblease 65 grams of protien a day. I have found that I really like the tast of the Unjury powders. They have an unflavored one that you can mix in with other foods to up your protien intake for the day. Unjury is 20g for one scoop. I also really like the taste ofnthe Pure Protien bars. They are usually 15-20g depending on the bar. Youncan get these a little cheaper at Costco. Also, Arnold bread has a double protien bread that has 7-8g per slice. Greek yogurt (chiobani brand plain yogurt) has 23g for 8 oz.
Eat a little slower and be mindful of what yu put in your mouth. How does it feel?
Get up and move-even for 10 min/day.

I hope this helps. I hope it's not too preachy. I think as long as your are eating well, getting your protien, watching the total number of sugars something has ( I was told I should never eat anything with more than 6 total sugars for anything other than natural? I have a personal goal to not go above 10) then you should do pretty well.

Hi, I had my gastric bypass 10/09. I am very new on this team. I only had about 65# to lose when I started and have lost 62# of it. My surgeon calls me a rock star in that I have kept the weight off. I am finding that I'm not doing as well at getting in the protein and water as I should be, and have also eaten some foods that are no-no's. I eat chocolate and drink cocoa but am finding that the chocolate/cocoa really irritate my tummy. Hubby and I are starting (just starting) to walk an hour each day. Maybe we could do a challenge to drink at least 8 cups of water a day and exercise at least 30 mins a day? I'm interested in any advice/suggestions. Thanks, Katie

Exercises for those of who have sitting positions would be GREAT! Let us know what you learn in your support group. You are lucky to have one! I never had the first one after my surgery but my surgery was 3 hours away from home, too.

Hi everyone, and thanks for the feedback. I would love to make this team strong and great, and you have given some great ideas to get us there! Challenges, catering to all times post op, posting about the food we eat, and so on. I am going to a support group tonight where they are going to have the silver sneakers come show us how to exercise while sitting, which could be great for those who have office jobs, those who are physically unable to get out or up and going. I will be gone for a few days, but I will post any new info I get when I return. Have a great week, all!!!

WOW, they told me unless I had all of the extra removal of skin, I would never lose anymore weight. That really depressed me! Nothing like hearing that but that forum sounds GREAT!

Hi everyone, I will be 3 years out this January. I am below my goal weight right now. I did have the tummy tuck and lower body lift a little over a year ago. Also, I had a total knee replacement about 7 Years ago, I am now 66 years old. If you feel that your quality of life is being affected by your knees, I would go ahead and have the surgery. They thought that I would have to have my other knee done but after my weight loss surgery and losing over 160 pounds the knee feels good, nothing major. I walk, riding a bike bothers my knee.
I feel that after you have lost the majority of your weight, we have different issues both physical and mental. We can have a forum for seasoned bypass people that address the issues that we face after being out or losing most of our weight. What do you think.

Maybe we could come up with a monthly challenge like some of the other teams. Or maybe the members could share what they eat that helps them stay on track. I always go in and huddle everyday but there never seems to be anyone else there. I'll look around on some of my other teams and see what they are doing to keep the motivation going and see if I can come up with some other suggestions. Brenda

I did get right back on it and did ride it around the track. I almost wrecked two more times but I did ride it and had a ball doing it. But I have to have the seat up so high because of my knees, it scares me to be up that high and not be able to touch the ground.

I wanted to have my arms and thighs done, but you are right the insurance consider it to be cosmetic; although they did approve my breast reduction right away. I wonder if and when I do the knee replacement would the insurance consider the thigh lift??? But, I will try to exercise more, not just for the fat, but to keep my knees moving.

Brenda, remember that old saying if you fall off the bike, you have to get right back on it. LOL!!

Take care.

There aren't any support groups even close to where I live. That is strange because I have been diagnosed with severe osteoarthritis and have to have knee replacments also. Isn't it just aggravating not being able to do the things you really wanted to do after all the years you couldn't just to find out that you still can't do them? Yes, I would definitely recommend the Nordictrack bicycle. We just got it put together last night and I rode it for a few minutes before going to bed but I am going to put the chip in tonight and watch the demo on how to use the machine. There are lots of buttons on it but I think once i learn them, it is going to help me alot. And if I can get some weight off my legs, then I might try riding the outside bike again. I did get to ride it but it scared me after all these years. It felt good once I got going but I really went down hard and each day I feel a new pain somewhere on my body from the fall. I am 56 and my doctor wants me to prolong the surgery as long as possible even though he said my right knee is SHOT. It is finally nice to find someone who is going through the same thing I am. I live in Southeastern Ohio. I do not regret having the surgery done at all because I do know that it saved my life but my insurance won't cover the surgery for the extra skin on my legs or arms because that is considered cosmetic but don't know that i would have it done now or not from talking to other people. Both very painful! It is nice talking to you! Brenda

I truly understand where you are coming from. I recently found out that I have advance arthritis in both knees and should have them replaced, but doctor wants me to wait as long as I can (I'm 50). I may look into buy the Nordictrack bike as well. In the long run it would be cheaper than paying to go to a gym (that I probably wouldn't go anyway). Do you go to any support group meetings?

I had my surgery back in 2002 and reconstructive in 2004 and found that I still need to lose about 25 lbs. I go down and up and down and up. I just need some type of support and motivation to get going and keep it off. And it's going to be winter again soon and that's when I struggle the most. The one good thing that i did do over the weekend, I bought a really good Nordictrack bicycle and have ordered some workout ifit programs to follow. I had a tumble last week on a regular bicycle that really thew me for a loop and I'm 56 yrs old. I don't need to hurt like that anymore. Every morning I wake up, I have a different hurt in a different spot. I just get aggravated because I had so many things I wanted to do after my surgery and have had many letdowns since the surgery that have basically left me really depressed. Any support from this team will help and I did notice that not too many were getting involved also. What can we do?

We can talk and recommend the different protein powders/drinks to try. I myself am 3 years out and I have gained back 18 pounds (I originally had lost 170), but after attending the support group, I realized that I am not the only one and we are here to support each other.

Sounds great! I am not personally there yet, but I would love to do what I can to facilitate new message boards, as well as post what I find out at support groups.

How about focusing maybe on the trials, set-backs and the things we can do to stay healthy for those of us that are 2 yrs or more out of surgery?

I really want to see this team thrive, but I can't help but notice that no one seems interested. What needs to be done to make this team great? What would you like to see happen to give us a boost to that greatness? How can I help us accomplish our goals here? Any input no matter how small or big is very welcome, so don't be shy.

emoticon I want to be right on target with this team, but I need help and input to make it great!
