HI all. My surgery date was 05/01/2009. Lost 110 lbs and felt better than in years. I am up 35 lbs in the past year and am so disappointed in myself.. I so much want to get back on track and found this group. I feel your pain and hopefully we can help each other to get back to that positve feeling we had when we first had our wonderful surgery. Hi, Sparklegigi, hoping I can be there for you too! I would like to lose 10-20 pounds; with gastric bypass, my surgeon said most of his patients gain back about 7% of their weight, but I'm hoping to get back to my "fighting weight" of 132. To reach that goal, I joined Nutrisystem last week. Can't really afford it, but if it disciplines me to eat more balanced meals with better portion control, then I'll do it. I'm also going to start on the treadmill downstairs tomorrow. Are you getting any exercise? Thats' been my problem, along with not being a good water drinker i.e. zero most days. Write when you can! It is my 3 year surgiversary goal and I am up 37 pounds. I had heard about bounceback weight, but I only thought it would be about 10 pounds. I had no idea that I would be back to eating all of my old foods with not many limits from my pouch.
So, here I am, hoping this group will be the support I need to get back on track. I hope I can be here for you too!

I've been out of touch on SparkPeople for quite a while, and it's time I get back to it. I've gained about 8-10 pounds since my low weight of 132, so need to start walking and drinking water. I believe that tracking food intake is the best thing you can do for yourself. Wishing you all a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and a lighter you in 2013!

Hi everyone, I haven't checked in in a very long time. Stress got hold of me and I had an embarrassing weight regain, but I did the 5 day pouch reset diet and now I am back on track at between 600-900 calories a day, trying to get back to where I need to be for my own sanity.

Hi

I know I've been out of touch, but it been very disheartening to not loose weight. I've bought a new food journal and am starting to keep track again. I've also bout protein drink, adding fruit to them and SF syrup's. Well see what this does or doesn't do.

Thx for sharing your stories.

Hi all,

Just wanted to say hello and thank you all for the great reading and sharing. I've learned a lot from your experiences and have only been here for about an hour. I've been coming to SparkPeople since my surgery.

I'm almost a year out from my GBS on 2/28/11. Still exercising and logging food intake even though the nutritionist said I didn't have to. My reply was, "Food logging is what has kept me in the game so I will continue."

My daily calorie/protein goals are 1,500 calories and 60-80 grams of protein. My concentration is on protein and I usually have no problem reaching my daily goal due to a morning protein shake. I'm trying to eat real food so I'm now taking a half a scoop of protein with "Bug Juice." It's fortified with veggies and calcium. Good stuff! Kind of like V8 Splash.

I started my journey at 330# and am now at 194# and believe I'm at a plateau. My primary goal was 200# which I reached late last fall. Secondary goal is 180# which I hope to reach by summer.

I feel much better and don't regret for a minute having the surgery although I struggle with the six meals per day and a bit of alcohol especially on week-ends which doesn't help my goals at all. Evening meals and evening snacks are also a challenge for me.

I also started smoking again and feel it is due to my weight loss and my change in lifestyle and eating habits. Quitting the smokes is next on the journey to good health list.

My goals are moderation, daily exercise and lots of water. My inspirational mantra is, "Just Do It!" That usually gets me up off my butt for a morning workout. I tell myself I'll go and stretch out for ten minutes or so and end up doing twenty to thirty minutes.

I'm here to gain insights into keeping the weight off, motivation, getting and giving support.

Thank you again for the good reading and sharing.

"Stay Strong Sparkies!"

I did not platue, that I recall. I had lost 160 pounds in 10 months so it was kind of constant. I would try to be patient and maybe up your exercise to help get off of it. Check your inches, your body may just be adjusting and loosing inches while the weight stays the same...makes no sense I know but it happens. Are you working out? Muscle weighs more than fat so as long as things are not going up and you are exercising you need to roll with it and let your body do its thing. Things will start moving in the right direction soon.emoticon

Well, I spoke to my dietitian and she say's that I've reached a plateau! I'm not sure if I'm happy about that and she say's I now have to be patient.

My question for you - when/if did you reach a plateau - how long did it last and did your weight adjust itself one you started losing weight again.

Welcome!

HaleandHardy, you have to let you body catch up. Being newly postop your body is still adjusting. You rweight will start going down again - give it some time. In the mean time try to drink a protein shake to help you get it in. I could not drink those things but I did manage to gag down the fruit flavored ones. I am 89 years post op so I don't remember the name of them. Try to nibble on good stuff and make everything count. You need to concentrate on protein try lean turkey lunch meat, and make sure you chew well!

Fredia, sorry to hear of your weight gain and having to start over. It is hard and the bypass is not a fix all. It is a tool that will be with you forever now. I am 8 years post op and had lost 160 pounds, gained back 50 and never did reach my goal. I think I finally got my head on straight and have started tracking everything and started exercising. Something is working right as the scales are moving in the right directions again. This time it is taking an effort. I am doing cardio and also weight trainng to hopefully tone as I loose.

Stick with it! We can do this!!

Hi:

I'm new to this group and just wanted to say hi and ask for some advice. I'm 5 weeks post op and have stopped loosing weight. I've lost approx. 30 pounds and haven't lost weight in the past 2 weeks. I have a lot of problems taking in protein and eat very little since my new pouch doesn't like too much of anything.

Can anyone offer some advice. I'd appreciate any help I can get.

Hi I am new to this group I lost 178 pounds after my surgery almost 7 years ago but the last year I have gained 68 back so here I am.
ToDay Menu:
Breakfast: Unjury and 8 ounces skim milk
Lunch: Unjury and 8 ounces skim milk
Dinner: 2 ounces 97 % fat free ground ground turkey 2 ounces 97% fat free ground pork 2 ounces pepper jack cheese and 1/2 cup black beans. Did not finish it all
Over 8 glasses of water
Snack 1 cup whole strawberries
Snack 12 Triscuit

The Spark Tracker says I was over on protein and below on carbs fat and calories. Does Spark have a menu Tracker for Gastric Bypass post op?

Well my first week and I have lost 5# and walked 6 miles so far. I still feel hungry all the time and can not seem to find the right balance for the nutrtion section of Sparks. Does Sparks have a nutrition tracker for gastric bypass since we are suppost to eat protein first, veg and then fruit as far as I know we do not eat breads and stuff. Or at least when I do I gain weight fast. Can someone help me with the tracker?

The only thing is see that may be a problem is the Lean Cuisine... the portion size is still to much at one setting and the sodium will hold the water weight...and i wouldn't say never eat potatoes... red potatoes are good for you, brown rice is also a good... but of course in small portions and not every day....

Pretty bummed out by a comment on my page from someone (who hasn't had surgery) mind you trying to talk me out of it.... with get this! Info they copy and pasted from WebMD. None of it anything I didn't already know. Why would someone I don't even know try to get me down? Oh well, I deleted their comment and will keep on moving :)

Hi team!! I'm 7 years out and originally lost 160lbs and have gained 60 back. Very scary, but been through a lot personally--so I reverted to my dear friends Carbs. I know they are my enemy so my goal is to stay in touch with others, like myself, and push protein and water.
Love this team. Thanks for being here!

As of today, 2/5/11, I have MET MY WEIGHT GOAL! I am 144.4 lbs. today! I am 7 months and 1week post op. I am soooooo excited and filled with utter excitement and joy that I could cry! This is such a monumental milestone in my weight loss journey! I have succeeded every goal I set out to do, and today was the last and final one - my weight down to where I wanted it to be when I first set it and started this journey. I can actually say I am a weight loss success story! And words cannot express the feeling of being able to say that I am NOT A FAILURE THIS TIME! That is a priceless feeling!

I don't know what my deal is - I've been snacking all day on cheese crackers and don't feel hungry when doing it, but felt the need to. I had 3 so far today (the orange square crackers with cheese in the middle). I know 3 isn't a WHOLE lot, however, I did it yesterday too! So whats up with it? Is it emotional eating? I had gallbladder surgery last week and don't know if its from stress or what. Anybody else had this problem? I'm 7 months out and have never strayed from what my food plan is until now.

Hi Sparkers,
I had RNY June 2007. I kept off most of the weight for a good amount of time, but since I was laid off last April, I've been doing a lot of grazing/snacking and have really piled on the pounds. So, I came back to SparkPeople, because the journaling is easy to do and helps keep me honest. I'm also doing the Spark book program, since exercise is something I'm not often inclined to do, and I'm hoping it'll help.
But I feel a little isolated and I'm hoping that doing a lot of chatting here will help me stay on track.

Hi I'm Kathy and had gastric bypass Jan 07, lost 90 lbs and have gained 30 back...I also did good for about 2 yrs then fell back to old habits and not watching what I eat. I can eat pretty much anything and have no problem. (wish I did). I enjoy reading the different posts and hoping it will inspire me to get my head out out my *** and get back on track. I currently attend Curves about 3x week and have started to journal my food. Love to have any input or comments (good or bad). This is the first time for me to really converse on the spark site. It is alittle embarrassing to write your errors/faults on line but I hope it will encourage me to do the right thing with my weight problem. Thank you all for taking the time to read and I hope I can also help others too.

Bonnie, Thanks so much, that was exactly what I was looking for. I have been trying to figure out what the schedule is. I got off my plan when I got sick and they fed me whatever I could get down. Now I have to break all the bad habits I have again. But I need to get the weight back off cause my legs and feet are starting to hurt again. I hate that. Thanks again.

Hi Janet... I am almost 5 years out and re-gained 35 pounds. I have lost 19 pounds since June 27th. It can be done with dedication to watching what you eat and exercise. Here's what my schedule looks like on a typical work day:

7:30 AM Breakfast: Yogurt & fruit
9:30 AM Snack: 11.5 oz V-8 and 2 (.75 oz) packages Cabot reduced fat cheddar or 1 oz roasted almonds
12:00 PM Lunch: Lean Cuisine (whole wheat pasta or brown rice but usually pasta)
3:30 PM Snack: protein shake
6:00 PM Dinner: 3 oz lean protein, 2 servings veggies (almost never have a starch: rice, pasta, potato or bread)
***STOP EATING***

The lowest weight I have been is 165lbs and even there I could have stood to lose more. My current goal is 160 and we'll see what happens when I get there.... WHEN. Not IF. Baby steps! :0)

48 years old, 7 years out. Did great until 4 years ago when I got ill. I lost about 100 but have gained back 50 after I got sick. Now I have trouble with what I am suppose to eat every day. Can someone who is keeping theirs off or still losing give me some tips of what you eat. Like your eating schedule? After the illness I was able to eat almost anything except rice, which is not suppose to happen. I know the bypass is still there because I eat half what most people eat. I just need a little guidance at this point. Thanks

Hi everyone, I am 3 weeks post op and have been fine until today. I had laparascopic rny on 04/26/10. Over the course of last night my main incision above my belly button opened and I now have an open wound about 1 cm long. I went to the doctor and they put ointment and a large bandage on it, but it really worries me as this is my first surgery ever. I really do not want to deal with any kind of infection so I am trying to be super careful. I have also had a lot of trouble having any motivation to walk. I have lost 37 lbs since my surgery but last week I only lost 2 lbs and I know it's because I am not exercising much. For some reason it is hard for me to find the motivation. I have been depressed and my schedule is all wacked out since I am not working. I sleep really late, have lots of homework for school to do, and most days find an excuse to not go to the gym to walk on the treadmill. I am also worried because I have no trouble drinking large amounts of water every day (usually in excess of 64 ounces). My first week post op it was difficult to get fluids in but now it's no problem at all. I am worried that this could potentially damage or stretch my pouch? Can anyone help or give any advice regarding my situation?

Oh Sweetie, can I relate to you! I have been off work since the first of February for Depression and Anxiety Disorder. Some days I didn't even get out of bed, get dressed, shower... You will feel better. Get someone to walk with you, or find a member here you can be accountable to. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel! The doctors (I'm dealing with three) have finally concocted a medication cocktail that is working and I am going back to work on Monday. Believe it or not I am laughing and walking now. Start with baby steps. Just walk out and get the mail. Then walk around your house or apartment building. After that maybe to the end of the block. Moving makes the good come faster! Hang in there!emoticonemoticon Ada Marie

Scubamom is right. You have to convince yourself that you will have plenty of energy once you start. If you can find an activity that is fun it will help you get started.

Roxeyhr....the thing about exercise is this: if you force yourself to do it, it will give you more energy AND help with your depression.

I know it is hard, but sometimes we just gotta bite the bullet and JUST DO IT.

Find a pleasant place to walk: if you like to shop, go to the mall. Promise yourself that after so many laps or some much time, you will take yourself to one of the shops for a small treat (a new nail polish, a magazine). Do you like to take pictures? Head to the park and bring your camera.

Depression and low energy are a vicious cycle; if you can break the chain by getting active, you will be amazed at how GOOD movement makes you feel.

emoticon You can do it!!

Marilyn

Hi, I don`t know anything about Trader Joes, but I do know about gastric bypass. I was 57 when I had the RNY bypass. I was also scared, but I knew I need to get the weight off to feel better about my self and mostly for my health. I did very well and haven`t had any problems. I just followed the rule laid down by my Dr. and also as soon as I was allowed up I walked till I was told to stop and take a break. But everyone was amazed by how well I did after the surgery. So go in with a positive attitude and I`m sure you will be fine. Good luck and I will say a prayer for you.

If you can incorporate some exercises with entertaining the grand kids, that might work. Games(especially out doors)even if it's a 'time' competition such as 'I need help weeding the garden. Whoever puts in 30 min. helping me will get to enjoy(whatever)' or some nature walks or treasure hunts, etc. Have fun, be creative!emoticon

Hi, Everyone. I think I told you all a little about myself already. But, just in case I didn`t. I had my RNY back in June of 2005. I lost 80 pounds but suddenly I stopped before reaching my goal. Just recently I gained back about 10 lbs. Not happy. I know some of the problem is having summer company, especially the grand kids. I need help with getting motivated , especially with the strength exercises. I`m OK with the aroebics. I linedance 3 times aweek. Thanks for any help.

Hello everyone. My name is Sarah and I have been away from the group for some time now and I realize it is time to get back, get refocused and reenergized! I had my GB in July 2005 and lost 105#. I have gained back 6# since March and am determined not to gain any more. We are preparing our house to sell so exercise over the next couple of weeks wont be a problem, but after that I will need to stay motivated. This is a great site and a great group and I look forward to getting to know you! emoticon

Hi All! My name is Bonnie. I'm 30 years old and I had my RNY about 3 years ago. I have lost 135lbs and am now trying to focus on developing those lifelong healthly habits to maintain. I am also looking to make some new friends and have a great support system in place. After my surgery all my friends seemed to disappear and I've been struggling along pretty much alone. I do have a wonderful supportive boyfriend who I love to death but I do need some friends that have experienced the same things as myself. I am looking forward to sharing ideas and sparking new friendships and thriving together. emoticon

The heat effects my energy level too. Also with the heat it's a little easier getting in more water or fresh watered fruit juices(I usually add extra water to them) and cool salads.

Maybe it the phase of the month for more fluid retention, but my scale moved up one and I know I got in enough exercise! Well, more water! My sergeon says the fat molecule is a longer chain requiring more water to help flush it out!

Hope all is going well for you. We gotta hang in there as a group to keep each other going.
I'm now in week 2 of SP and so far, so good. I was on the low end of my calorie, fat and carbs for the day and have been working to get those up and into range. I believe you are right that you lose more if you stay in the range, just seems high to me sometimes but I have to have faith and give it a try. Today was better as I made my targets in all areas. How about you?

Hi everyone, My name is Cathie. I have been lurking and reading and finally decided to join this team, didn't feel I fit into the others most were to early into their lose.
History: I had VBG in the 80's lost 186 # and took 2 yrs. I just recently gained back 40# ever since menopause hit. So I decided to join SP. After going back to my surgeon that did my surgery to see if my stomach was still intact, it is still holding. So it was up to me to do this. I am down 11 # and changing eating and exercising 5 days a week. I eat 6-8 X's a day Taking in protein in form of drinks.(Trader Joes has a protein pwd. that has 46 grams of protein calories reasonable and tastes good) I use soy or rice dream milk, alot of veg., Do not drink pop and watch my sweets. I eat around 1500 to 1650 a day and that is work. I find if I eat in the recommended area SP says I lose more weight. well thanks for letting me share. Cathie

When you can find someone who can see your flaws and your under-developed character, and love you in spite of it all, you are blessed.

When God makes an appointment with you, something awesome is going to happen.

Nothing tastes as good as slender feels.

Hi you all
I am new to the team and not sure how all this works. I need to have my hubby show me - he knows stuff "-)
I had my bypass about 10 years ago. I discovered I could eat sugar and not suffer. Others I know thought they were going to die. That was a bug bummer to me. I have put back on about 35 lbs and am really wanting to lose that and some. I love sparkpeople and am so excited about all the tools it offers. I am also a newlywed and would just love to look better and feel healthier and have more freakin energy. I have recently moved to Troy Mt and finding that a bit of an adjustment also.
I am trying to get back doing some exercises and it does feel good.

So.CA Desert..... What I resist, will persist. I can achieve what I believe. Life is what I make it. If it's to be, it's up to me. ("I" need to take the action!) Just do it! Utilize, don't analyze. Oh yah, baby steps, baby steps...
