Yes, Sugar, you still belong to the team (and I've been wondering where you went). I am so sorry you're having all the problems healing up, but I do know from other folks that it takes a while for it to heal. And if you had surgery on it, if you didn't follow the physical therapy to a T it could be that is the reason it's still bothering you.

Hope it gets better soon cuz I remember how active you were, always beat me out in fitness minutes!

Good Morning or Afternoon,
I am so happy that I found this team :) I will be turning 65 next week and feel this would be a great team to be a part of. I live in South Florida with DH; we have 3 adult children and 2 grands. I enjoy brisk morning walks as well as bike riding for my choice of exercise. I also enjoy working in my flower garden weekly. Looking forward to being part of this team.

Welcome, Still Flyin' I know you and I have been friends and writing back and forth for a long time now (don't know why I don't know your first name) and I'm so happy to see that you joined the team. We have a few regulars who are very loyal to a few of the posts, so join us in some of the games we play. Things like female names, male names, food, etc. You'll see them as you browse through.

Today I'm heading up to our summer home to try and get some of the weeds taken care of, with the bit of rain they had up there (mountains @ 5000 ft) they are really aggressive. I do not know if you heard or not, but my home burned down the last day of June last year, and they are slowly but surely getting the new one built. I'm hoping for a May move in, or June for sure.

Hugs, Eve

Howdy!

I saw this team listed on SCOTMAMA's page and followed it over here.

Both my hubby and I are retired and have been for a while. We have more to do now than we did when employed. We are active in several volunteer organizations. We each also have a number of other hobbies that consume our time and interests. We have no children.

I'm told that I look younger than I am, although I think my age is catching up with me. I have a number of health problems that seem to hurt more every winter. I'm working to lose weight, sometimes more successfully than other times. For me, it is a very slow, long effort.

Hi Rebecca! And welcome to "Retired Seniors." It sounds like you have a pretty full plate with all the stuff going on in your life -- but I'm glad to see you're not letting it get you down. Fight back, lose the weight, and live life to the fullest.

Hello everyone! My name is Rebecca and I am 56 and retired (early) from the government as an investigator. I retired because my husband of 36 years was not doing well and we decided we would rather do those those things we dreamed of, now rather than later. He is doing much better now. Also, my Mother, who has Alzheimer's, has become my responsibility unexpectedly last year. The stress and sadness took a toll on my health and weight.

I am also the proud mother of two wonderful grown sons and the grandma to an outstanding grandson. I was raised in Alaska but lived all over the U.S., plus Germany. It has been a good ride so far and hopefully an even better one to come. I need to lose weight to improve my health and lose about 40-50 pounds. There are so many things I want to do....river rafting in the Grand Canyon, walking the trail on the Way of St. James in Spain, skydive.....but I have to be in better shape to do those things. So, here I am. Ready for this phase of my life and ready to do what I can to make it happen.

Welcome to "Retired Seniors" Pam -- and if you'll just let me know where in Missouri that you live, I'll enter that for you as well.

Sounds like you have a good plan to enjoy yourself for a few months before you even think about part-time work. I enjoyed volunteering at the local Library for awhile, but we are gone all summer -- although AZ is used to the Snowbirds, so they take that into consideration with their volunteers and it is possible to just volunteer during the months you choose to work.

I'll enter your birthday for you, and also list you as a new member!

Hi - I'm a retired RN. Most recent job in CA and retired 12/2009 and moved to MO to be near #1 son and family. #2 son also came here in 2010 to escape the high cost of living. Daughter remains in SoCal. I'm Nana to 9.

I retired and planned to take 3 months off and then work part-time, but I have yet to go job-hunting and don't have any plans to do so. I do a little volunteering with our local RSVP, but mostly I enjoy having time to myself and my family.

And I'm just learning to use my new I-Pad and am not sure I can cut and paste the birthday list, so I'll just tell you all it's January 14.

Welcome to the Team, CindyAnne! I have been retired for quite a number of years now, but I certainly agree with you that it's wonderful. If I have a night when sleep just doesn't seem to come easily -- until early morning, then it always does. But when you're retired you can just smile, roll over and go back to sleep. When working, you groan, and get up!

I hope you and DH have a terrific time in Alaska! What month are you planning on going? Due to the extreme cold there I'd say that August is really the BEST month -- sometimes it even tinges on "warm" during that month. lol

Hope to see you on many of our various posts -- and wishing you the best on reaching your own personal goals.

What a beautiful Friday in September it is!

I thought I might have some difficulty adjusting to retirement. HA! I love sleeping past 5:30 am, staying up late to read, doing things around the house like redecorating my daughter's room, cooking dinners (when I want!) that take more than 30 minutes to prepare, spur of the moment shopping, visiting my mother, relaxing with manicures and pedicures, planning the surprise trip to Alaska for my wonderful hubby and even going to the gym! I could go on and on! But most of all I enjoy it when my two dear friends from my school call me complaining about that fool of a principal they are still having to deal with everyday! I can give them my sympathy and advice, hang up the phone and smile because I am NOT there!

Life is good! emoticon and I am off to the gym

FIRECOM-- I am so happy you decided to accept my invitation, and I'm sure you are a good fit for us! It's wonderful that you still have your mate, and 55 years of marriage is quite a few years to spend with one person! You must know her as well as you know yourself. In today's world long marriages like that are not as common, but when you hear of them, it lets you know that it's still possible. Always brings a smile to my face.

The fact that you are off all medications is awesome! Now I'd like you to go to our "I live in (blank) state and enter your info there, plus our birthday page and do the same there. Again, thank you for joining -- hope you make a lot of friends on this team!

Firecom, wonderful success story! Great how you have the health issues under control!

I am Cindy from south of Dayton, OH and I just retired this fall after 35 years of teaching special education in the inner-city. Oh, the stories I could tell! I am loving retirement and the freedon to do what I want, when I want. My husband and I joined a gym in July and have a trainer we meet with weekly. I have been going to the gym 3x a week and am starting to see small changes in my body already.

We have both lived in this area most of our lives, except when I was in college at Georgetown College. I was previously married for 20 years until my husband passed away after a lengthy illness. I swore I would never get married again and enjoyed being single, but almost 7 years ago I met my present hubby and we will be married 5 years next month. He is the best thing that ever happened to me.
I have an 18 year old daughter who just started her first year at Eastern Ky Univ and has been driving us nuts with her being homesick! lol She was the one who always said she could not wait to go off to college and be on her own. Who would have guessed?

I am determined to get rid of this 50 lbs that is hanging on so tightly and to be healthier now that thereis time for me! My husband will retire in about 2 years and we want to be able to enjoy many golden years.

Congrats on yur 55 years of marriage!

Hello everyone. I was invited to join this team so I looked it over and agree that it is a good fit for me. Fortunately, I have not lost my soul mate. We celebrated 55 years together this last June.

I am 77 ahd retired and we are enjoying life in Arizona. I was born and raised in Grand Junction, CO (halfway between Denver and Salt Lake on I-70). Marj and I met while in college. She is from the Texas gulf coast town of Port Lavaca. Upon graduation, we moved to Scottsdale where I worked in the electronics field and specifically in support of the Gemini program. We had our first 4 sons while living there. We moved to Washington State and lived in Woodinville WA fr 41 years and and our number 5 son was born there. They all married and have their own families now so we moved back to AZ in 2008.

Diagnosed Diabetes T2 in 1996 and had myfirst heart bypass in 2001. One of our sons moved to AZ before us so we do have some family here. Four of our eleven grand kids live here. We are flying to WA this Wednesday as we have a granddaughter getting married.

On the medical side of this way too long story is that I reached a weight of over 335 lb in the early 80's. Been on every yo yo diet in existence. I did have some success with WW but it creeped back on. I had my second bypass in 2008 and my diabetes was out of control. Then i found SP and my life has totally changed for the better. I hit my initial goal weight recently and have moved it down another 5 lb to 160.

My diabetes is in remission and I have been taken off all medications, including insulin. My A1c ranges between 5.2 and 5.4. I just wish I had taken this approach decades ago.

I hope I havent boored you too much but this is my story and I am sticking to it.

How wonderful, Eve, that you found love and happiness again! I always feel so sorry for those who say they will never marry again, like I used to say. Life is full of so many surprises and who are we to say "never?" I sure learned my lesson!
Have a wonderful Friday!

I know it wasn't written to me, CindyAnne, but it made me smile to read it. Not too much different from you, my husband died in 2001 after a 5 month bout with stomach cancer. But unlike you, I wanted to remarry as my marriage had been a very happy one -- and I wanted to be in that space again, ASAP. God made me wait a long, long time for that to happen, most likely as I need some lessons in patience, but I did find a wonderful guy and the odds were against us (another story) but we got married on 1-11-11. I have a blog on it somewhere in my many pages of blogs. lol

So happy we're getting to know one another via these posts!

2JUSTME, We have several things in common: My first husband passed away in 2002 - hard to believe it will be 10 years in just a few weeks. At the time our daughter was 8 years old and she and I went through some rough patches without him. I swore I would never remarry for several reasons: It was not a wonderful marriage and I decoded I would never let someone into my life to control me, my finances, my heart, etc. At the time I was teaching and continued to do so until last week.
Fastforward to today: I am on leave using my many accumulated sick days from teaching special ed in the inner city. I will officially retire in November with 35 years of teaching behind me. My daughter is now a freshman at Eastern Kentucky Univ and so very homesick. I have to keep reminding myself tht this too will pass and she will soon be having the time of her life! (I am not too old to recall MY college days!)
I also remarried in 2007 to the most wonderful man and enjoying life as never before. Yep, I had to eat those words of never marrying again!
I have joined a gym with my husband and I am working out three times a week, one with a trainer. Although it has only been one month, I am waiting each morning to wake up looking like Farrah Fawcet did! Hey, it is my dream! lol
If nothing else I have learned, one never knows what is in God's plan for us. He knows I was never going to get remarried and that I hate to sweat because it messes up my hair, but He has me very happily married and sweating at the gym every week and who am I to question this? Life is good, very good!

Hi everyone. I'm Susan and I'm 65. I retired 6 1/2 months ago and I'm loving it. I've started exercising more - that was a challenge in itself, but it's been good. I help out with my grandson - he's 21 months old. I meet with friends for lunches and I work around in my yard. I've decidedd this year to do container gardening because it's to hard to get down to do regular gardening. I've been doing a lot of cleaning out in my house. My husband passed away 5 years ago and it was tough, but I'm a surviver and I want to be around for a long time. Eating right and exercising should definitely help. I'm having a bit of a hard time with the food tracker, only because I'm not eating right yet. I think as I shop, I need to just start shopping healthier. I'm determined and I can use all the help I can get!

An hour at the gym with hubby and our trainer this morning! Then to run errands for tomorrow's 88th family reunion at Delco Park. Please no rain tomorrow afternoon. Cannot believe I am saying that this summer!

Hi, my name is Cindy and I have been away from SP for several months and am seriously back! My husband and I just joined a gym and signed up with one of the personal trainers. Yep, we are serious! I have 65 days to teach before I retire at 35 years of teaching, but have decided to take sick days for those 65 days under the advice of my doctor. Just too much stress with having my special ed position changed for the last two years and now assigned to teach a class that I am not qualified to teach. I really have mixed feelings about retiring under these circumstances.
Also, I live south of Dayton, OH and have an 18 year old daughter who is leaving for college next month. August will bring some big changes in our household with her leaving and me not going back to work.

Hi Jae (unusual name) I'm glad you decided to join up with "Retired Seniors" and hope we will see you on the various posts real often.

I've been retired for a number of years now (but I'm 73) but thinking back on it, it's a difficult decision to make and pretty hard to find yourself with all that leisure time all of a sudden, so it can be a tough adjustment to make. I'm not one of those retirees who want to be busy 16 hours a day, and sleep 8; although I do make it a habit to sleep the necessary 8 to keep me acting human. Hearing about the active lifestyle some of you have chosen tends to make me want to take a nap -- just to keep my energy up. lol

Welcome to our team -- and if you have any suggestions for things you would like to see incorporated in our daily "fun to do stuff" I'm open to suggestions. In the meantime, we do have a few things you could go to that will help us all get acquainted: I live in (blank) state; tell us when your birthday is, name a city (from A to Z); name a veggie -- and browse around as you might find something else to do.

Hi, I am jae.. I am 62 and I am retired. I really did not plan on retiring so young. I had health issues that kept me from working. So here I am.
I am making the adjustments that need to be made. Trying to stay positive about life. Trying to eat right and exercise, and of course to drink lots of water. Not my favorite thing to do.
I have been at Sparks for awhile now. Lost some weight, then seemed to lose interest. I am back now, ready to get spark on.
look forward to supporting others on the team and to get to know you better

What you wrote would be called a "Post" -- a blog is much like a post, except it is open for anyone and everyone on Spark People to read. Usually a posting is just read by the Team Members of that particular team. Confusing to say the least.

So you live in the country, which probably means you have your own garden in the summer. It is so nice to be able to pick fresh things to cook up.

Perhaps if you have not already done so, you can also post your birthday and the town, state where you live on the appropriate post. When you go to our main page (by clicking on the "Retired Seniors" at the top part of this page) -- you will see all the various posts to chose from.

Good luck on getting to your goal. They have very good information on this site, and you could also try tracking your food and exercise.

So Welcome! Eve (team leader)

My name is Melvalynn. I'm 69, a retired teacher, the grandmother of 7, an amateur knitter and crocheter, and the wife of Dennis. I weigh 199 as of my joining day, and I plan to lose 30+ pounds in 2012. I live in the country, have 3 donkeys, and 2 dogs....a great dane, and a schnouzer mix. The great dane lives outside and the schnouzer mix lives inside. I don't know if I am using this blog correctly. I am introducing myself to the "Retired Seniors" team. I hope to get acquainted with others in my age and weight group. emoticon

Happy calorie counting...

Hi Jane and a big welcome to my Team! I just noticed that you only weigh 150 right now and your goal is to get to 110. You must be short, and when you reach your goal you will be very petite. That the weight range I was in until I hit 40, then it went to the 120's and at 50 it was something like emoticon

Hope to see you posting on here often so we can get acquainted. And good luck on reaching your goal. emoticon

Hi Everybody, I'm Jane, retired for six years from a job as Administrator of Internal Medicine in a New York hospital. I now live in Florida and love it. I never want to see snow again. I am interested in reading and belong to two book clubs; I also study Spanish and love line dancing. I am here to lose 40 pounds which I think will make me feel better and look better. I am hoping to make new friends on this site and look forward to being a member.

My birthday is July 20, 1945. Being born at the end of World War 2 made a big impression on me while I was growing up, I felt like I had a special birth year, the year the big war was over.

I retired from teaching a year ago, at age 65, I went longer than most!!! I loved my job teaching 6th grade math and science, but I was starting to slip, had a hard time remembering the kid's names, and where I had put their papers!!!

I have two daughters, aged 35 and 38. Where did the time go? It seems like they were babies yesterday. I have a toddler grandson and a granddaughter expected in January.

Recently, I got one of those "grandma" scam phone calls. How do they know we are old enough to be grandparents????

One thing I can see you are not lacking in is a sense of humor, Darlene! I may revise the way I answer when asked my age -- let's see I guess I would be sixty-thirteen. May as well intro a few new words into the vocabulary - God knows it gets boring at times. Now if only there was a way to justify my weight I'd have it made. For now I guess I'll just stick with "I'm not overweight I'm just too short."

Welcome to our Team! Hope to see and hear from you a lot!

Hi, I'm Darlene, but Dee is easier to spell. Actually, I'm just posting this to see if it comes up as a list post or as a reply to someone else. :)

Wow! Not only did it come up in the right place, it also covers my life and adds my pic. LOL A bit more than I expected.

I've been retired from teaching for 6 years. I taught communication skills more than 20 years in a technical college, but also taught 5 years each in high school and middle school. I loved those college minds and still miss their input into my life. They kept me up with the times.

A grand hubby and a young son round out my life. Well, our son is young for my age group. He is 29, a nursing aide at a nursing home, and lives very near us. So life is good here.

Oh, home is Wisconsin and my birthday is March 7. I am aging like all retirees, but I really loved my sixties, so I decided never to leave them. When asked how old I am, I have tun replying, "Sixty-eleven and soon to be sixty-twelve."

Wish each of you here the very best success on all your goals.

Hi Paige -- gee! I used to live in San Diego, wish I still did, I'd love to be your buddy! I don't know if that photo you have posted is a recent one of you, but if it is -- WOW!

San Diego is a wonderful place to live or go for a vacation! Fun things to do, and wonderful places to go eat. I just got back from a 3-day vacation and haven't checked in here yet, but if you haven't signed up for where you live and when your birthday is, please do! And a BIG welcome to you, Paige! Hope you are an active poster type.

Hi, I am MaryAnn. I have been retired from teaching since 2000. I taught third grade for 32 years. We have recently moved from Alabama to Colorado. I love it here! I love the mountains, the snow, the sunshine, and virtually no humidity! Also no fleasor flying roaches. But there is a daughter, son-in-law and an adorable 2 year old granddaughter. And an easy flight to a son, daughter-in-law, and 1 year old granddaughter. I feel highly blessed. I have been on sparkpeople since 2008 and lost all the weigh I had wanted. Then foolishly I gained back about 30 lbs. So I am tracking my food, exercising, and making sure I get the proper nutrients every day. My birthday is July 12, 1946.

Hi, I'm Pat and I've been retired for 7 years. I live in a small town in central New Hampshire. I also was 'floundering' until I join a local senior group. I had joined a senior group and then we moved to a town about 60 miles away. It took me 3 years to find another senior group. We gather a least once a week and have a good time. I am happy to have found SparkPeople. I am tracking my food and starting to lose weight. My birthday is Nov. 30 1939.

Welcome to "Retired Senior" Sheila! And thanks for telling us about you and your lifestyle. I know it is sometimes hard when you first retire to know just what you want to do with your life, and like everything else, you probably need goals even then. If you had told me that 10 years ago I would have laughed at you and said, "No! When you're retired you can just do whatever you please -- take each day as it comes." But in reality, if we follow that plan we may find that we accomplish nothing more than being couch potatoes.

It's great that you have managed to reduce your weight by 25 pounds already. I'm sure with the support and help you get on Spark People you will find a way to reach your goal. Follow the hints and advice you find on this site -- post often, join in the communities, everyone is so friendly it's easy to do.

Hi, I'm Sheila and have been retired for two years. I'm 69 years old and we live in Beach Park, Illinois. For nearly 10 years we watched over my mom so she could stay in her own home. Sadly, she spent the last year and a half in a very nice nursing home, and died two years ago. She died and I retired within two weeks of each other, so for the last two years I have been floundering without a plan for each day as I had before retirement. Now, my husband and I have a new eating plan and need to get moving! We have each lost about 25 lbs. but I need to lose another 50 or so and need to get more fit. Thanks for this website! Oh, my birthday is Nov. 20 1941... yup just before Pearl Harbor was bombed.

Thanks for your reply, Eve. So nice to know there are people close by to talk to when things get out of control.

Actually, I no longer have any health problems except for the weight. I no longer have thyroid and pre-diabetes problems, and even my doctors have taken me off of all medication. All I have is this overlarge body, and I think this is just starting to get handled. I still have a really hard time walking as I am 5'4" and am big from top to bottom. Too much time in front of the computer. The main thing I have is stress from not enough money to meet all my bills, but hopefully, some day that, too, will be resolved.

I just put this last 8 pounds on after losing about 25 lbs a year ago. And I can feel every ounce of it. But I have things coming up and I need to be able to move so I can do them. Hopefully, this will happen - I would like to be down about 15 lbs by June 19th when I go to Vegas with a group of people. I would be able to move if I do, as I held that weight for a few years - I was big but able to move. But in total, I would like to lose 150 lbs. before I get much older. But one day at a time.

I just ordered the Spark diet book from Amazon on my Kindle, so it will be interesting to read about it.

Thanks again. Talk to you soon.

Hi Kathleen -- and welcome to our Team!

I'm sorry you are suffering from various health problem, seems to be a common problem for those of us in our "Golden years." Ya, that's a laugh, huh?

I was just watching Biggest Loser last night and it's amazing how people can turn their lives around -- and I'm sure you will start to lose some of that weight if you are consistent with your healthy eating. Perhaps you could put your dog in the car and drive to a park of a place where you would have more level ground to walk on. Double win situation there, as your dog would get a car ride -- they all love that, AND you'd both get to take a walk. The more you move the better you will feel.

Good Luck and I'm so happy you decided to join our team!
Hugs, Eve

Hi.
My name is Kathleen and am 74 years young. I was laid off in 2007 from my job with a mortgage company where I had worked for 16 years, and now live alone with my sweet Cavalier King Charles dog named Teddy. I have 2 sons, three grandsons, two step grandsons and a granddaughter all between the ages of 16-21. I love to travel and have been on 14 cruises, but since being laid off, finances are not conducive to travel any more. So, most of my communication is through the internet - I've met some lovely people on line lately and it keeps my mind active and gives me something to look forward to.

I have had a very bad weight problem - I currently weigh about 308 - which started when I was 40 and has persisted until now. My appetite has been totally out of control, but I recently met a healer and so far, I have been healed of pre-diabetes and thyroid problems, and just lately noticed that my appetite is diminishing so I am hopeful that it will continue and I can stay within my calorie limits, and eventually feel like exercising again. My poor dog hasn't had a walk for a long, long time. I live in a hilly area of Los Angeles, and as I have had some heart arrythmia problems, haven't tried to walk around here. My doctor has finally given me permission to walk but on a level surface.

I want to be fit and healthy for the time when I am able to travel again. I love volunteering as an usher for the theater, but since the last weight gain, it is hard to stand very long, plus I have to be careful which theaters I go to as some of the seats are way too small for my big butt.

And this is a brief synopsis of my life right now. I am totally healthy - it's just that the packaging (body) is way too large. So, time to do something about it.

Welcome NORLO2 (for want of a better name)! I normally send a little gift to new people who join my team, but I see your Spark Page is set to private, however I have added you as a friend, hoping you will allow me into your inner circle.

I'm always happy to see new members and learn how you are living your lifestyle now that you are a retiree! In your case moving from country to city will be a major change. I am doing somewhat the opposite as I just got married in January -- and now find that during our hot summer months in Arizona, I can essentially live "in the country." The town we have our summer home in is so small it doesn't classify as "city" living, and while we are on a street with other homes, you have the feeling of being in the country. Walking my dog I do get a chance to see neighbors now and then, sometimes in their yards, but most of the time they are also walking their dogs.

Welcome! Hope to hear more about you and your adjustments to FL.

Although a native to North FL, I have lived in Michigan for 50+yrs. I move to South FL in Jan. from a farm where I had lived for 30+yrs. Most of my adult children live in the Ft Lauderdale/Coral Springs area, therefore mostly the reason for the move to So.FL I am still making adjustments to a new live style from country to city life. I live alone with my Yorkies, make most of my meals from scratch, do my own housework, groom the dogs, drive myself(in this crazy traffic) to shop and the other places that I want or need to go. I am in good health for my age but, I do need to develop a consistent exercise program and lose a bit of weight. I have lots of interest and talents and hobbies but not very active in any of them currently; I will be exploring becoming a volunteer in a area of interest and would like to make some new friends.

I am retired from the State of Michigan and have worked in other Social Services Agencies for many yrs. My Speciality has been in Children's Services both for the The State of Michigan as well as private agencies and the Juvenile Court System.

Hi Peggy, and Welcome to Retired Seniors! Retirement can be just what you make of it, for some it's boring, others never seem to have time to become bored. I think it is easier if you are married, for there are more activities of couples than singles it seems to me. I was a widow myself for 9 years, and just remarried on 1-11-11.

I also enjoy writing, so we have something in common to begin a friendship, and I'm sure there are other things as well. I've been on SP for quite some time now since I joined 12-07 and although I haven't quite reached my goal yet, it is certainly well within sight.

Good luck on reaching your goals -- this is a good place to get started.

Hello, my name is Peggy and I have been a member of Spark People Since last May. I however fell off the wagon and got back on in January of this year. I have been retired now for two years this past February. I enjoy being retired and don't miss work, just the people that I worked with. I was a Unit Secretary at one of the major hospital's here in Philadelphia for 40 years. Twenty five of which were in Psychiatry. I love to read and cook, as well as travel. My goal here at Spark People is to loose weight so that I won't become diabetic or risk getting high blood pressure. I have had a scare with HBP, and hated taking the medication. So I'm going the correct eating habits route, lol. It's nice to meet you all.

I am a divorced mother of three and I have three natural grandchildren and two step grands. Some other things that I enjoy are writing short stories, playes and sometimes songs. Jig saw puzzles are also a pet peeve of mine.

Hi Kathy -- and wish I could remember better the other name; of course MARPET didn't tell us her name. I'll learn it though, give me time!

So it looks like early retirement is the way to go. My husband died of stomach cancer back in June 2001 and although I was a successful Real Estate Agent the fun had gone out of it for me, so I retired about 6 months after his death. I've done volunteering and various things, then just a couple months ago on 1-11-11 I remarried. We are on a delayed honeymoon to Peru right now (for a month) and will be back home mid-April.

Hope to be more active once I get back home.

Retired 1.5 years ago. My husband has been retired for 10 years. We have a little piece of heaven in the country. Grown children and many grandchildren. Love being at home and enjoying nature.

We have 6 grandkids we dont see much even though 4 of them live close by.

Hi!

I'm newly retired (this June) and am heavy into sewing and knitting Christmas gifts at the moment. I need to lose weight to prepare for knee surgery sometime this spring. I've been putting both off since my husband passed away in 2005, but it is now time to bite the bullet! Hope to curb the apetite during the Holidays, and start seriously immediately after.

I live on the northshore area of Massachusetts and would love to hear from other Spark members, especially if you are in the area. I love almost any type of creative hobby as long as it keeps my hands busy. I also love card games and scrabble.

Have eight grandchildren and three adult children who all live in the area. Having them close is great, but sometimes I wonder....

Wishing all a happy and healthy Holiday season.

Hi Everyone,
Would like to introduce myself. Retired, have been a volunteer since 1999 with the schools, sheriff's office, park dept & dog rescue. Recovering from a heart attack, about 2 weeks ago. Really like the vibes I get from this group. Have been with Sparks a few months, but the heart attack has made me look deeper & the Dr's too!!! emoticon
When I lost my husband to alziemers,in 2006. I just gave up & didn't care & the weight came on & on & on!!! Now comes the hard part, getting it off & Sparks has a lot of good idea & help. Lucky to have an understanding boyfriend & gives me all the help & inspiration needed, as well as eating "my" food!! emoticon Bless his heart.......

So nice to hear from you again LADYDOR - it' always interesting to me to learn how some of us "retired" people plan on spending Thanksgiving. My kids do not live close, even my daughter who I am very close to, lives in Las Vegas and that's a 4-1/2 hour drive. The past several years I have driven to be with her and her family for Thanksgiving, but this year it will be just my BF and myself. We have had invitations to join others, but prefer just a small private meal for the two of us.

JUST CHECKING IN AGAIN..NICE TO READ FROM THE NEWBIES. I THINK I WILL HAVE TO CHECK OUT HOW MANY CALORIES I SHOULD EAT, AS I AM AT A STANDSTILL. SOMEONE SAID I MAY NEED TO EAT MORE TO LOSE..CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT?
HUBBY AND I ARE CELEBRATING OUR 57TH THE 21ST..THEN WE ARE EXPECTING AROUND 15 FOR THANKSGIVING DINNER AND LOTS OF COOKING TO DO THE WHOLE WEEK. WITH MY ARTHRITIS, I WILL TAKE IT SLOW AND ALWAYS HAVE LOTS OF HELP FROM HUBBY AND NEIGHBORS.
WISHING EVERYONE HERE A VERY HAPPY THANKSGIVING AND ENJOY THE FOOD, BUT JUST EAT SMALL PORTIONS. DORIS OH YES, WHEN I FIRST STARTED WALKING THE MALL, IT WAS VERY HARD AND I HAD TO SIT A LOT..BUT TODAY, I HAD NO PROBLEMS WALKING AT A GOOD PACE AND FELT GOOD.

Howdy! I've been retired for a couple of years and am enjoying the time to do things I would rather do instead of working all the time. My working existence was as a corporate slave. Now, I spend my time on lots of things that a responsible suit would never admit to doing.

Hubby and I have no children other than our cat and dogs. We are very active in the local science fiction club, including attending conventions in costume. We spend considerable time participating in shooting sports. We joined a gym and spend a couple of hours there on most week days. Friends were concerned that hubby and I would have problems spending so much time together, but it hasn't worked out like that.

I have discovered gardening and have actually been able to grow food that we ate for the first time in my life! That is still so magical to me.

I'm an artist, but have spent the last couple of years trying to decide what style and subjects that I want to paint.

I learned how to knit earlier this year so that I could make Jayne hats for hubby and me. I will never be good at it and I'm not interested enough to do anything complicated, but I'm enjoying it.

So many creative things to do that I haven't tried yet!

Hi, I am a 79 year old & we have 1 daughter, a deceased son, 6 grands & 1 great. I retired in 1981 from a Comm. college in Calif. I was born & raised in upstate N.Y. but moved 23 times when we came to the Phoenix area. Our daughter was born at McDill AFB, Fla. & our son was born in Paris, France. I have really enjoyed how busy I am in retirement. Learning Loom Weaving,Basket weaving & other crafts. volunteering as a Lion's club member & driving my vision impaired friend where ever she needs to be. I love the heat of AZ because my joints feel better but we have had some unusual Humidity this year & that is bad. I joined Spark in Dec. 27, 2009 & I just Love all of the friends I have made in Spark. I will be married 61 years this month. What a life!
