Wonderful to hear Magdalena is home and almost back to normal. Not good to hear little ones are ill. Lee good to know you went to get checked out. COPD is not something to fool around with. Tired tonight myself and will be of to bed soon. Betty the video was cute and had a good chuckle. Surprised at the picture when finished.
Never did any travelling growing up until after my boys were grown up . First flight and only was to San Francisco with my Mom to visit a friend of hers and did a lot of sightseeing for the week we were there, After my 2nd marriage did a little travelling with DH for a few years , mostly in Canada but a few trips to Florida , in the winter with an RV. into Texas to see the Alamo and then north a bit from there. Did not keep the RV and now only go on daytrips around here with the 53 Chev. If I ever won a lot of money then would like to see more of the U.S. and our own west coast. Health Insurance to travel is just too much to make it enjoyable any more and not worth taking a chance without it as we get older. Time to call it a day and say Good Night and God Bless. Sweet Dreams. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon Maureen

It is snowing here also, nothing on the ground as this evening around 6 p.m. Have been sewing most of the day and really tired. Taking rest, tomorrow is another day. Going to call my Nancy and GD to wish safe travels, relax and have fun this week. Talk to all tomorrow.

Hi everyone, we got another 4" of snow today. My DH drove us to his colonoscopy appointment and I drove home. Took me longer than usual as I never drove over 35 mph. He is happy it is over and we have to wait for the pathology report, but the doc was optimistic.

Frances-glad to hear MagPie is home. I'm sure she will be back to her old self soon.

Camry-hope you got the new furnace fan.

As a kid, we never took vacations-not even road trips. For the 1st 17 yr. of marriage we took camping road trips to see DH family in Michigan and later to Denver. Couldn't afford motels and at that time, tenting campers paid two to three dollars a night. Went camping in New England and in Canada; wouldn't want to do it now.

Take care and sleep well.

Bad weather here and snow tonight/tomorrow.

My efforts to watch the Super Bowl were wasted as did not know one thing going on.

Vacations...being from FL we took many trips to Disney World, Cypress Gardens, St. Augustine, Tarpon Springs where I learned to love Greek food. We went to Arkansas, Savannah which was a trip I would love to make again. We had the best time ever. Before we moved to NC we vacationed here and that led to our becoming residents. While in Guantanamo, we could have made many trips in that area, but I was pregnant most of the time (11 months apart) so we only managed one trip...to Jamaica. Previously, I had been to CA. and visited many places there. Went to Detroit and through a tunnel to Canada. Never got to take a cruise or visit out of the USA. But I enjoyed every place we visited and have nice memories.

Frances, praising the Lord for wee Magdalena and I am sure all are glad to have her home.

Sleep well and stay warm and safe.

Several of you have asked if I am over my flu and I am completely well thank you. Everything back to normal again. It was the flu, started with a headache and body aches with temperature. Upset stomach, lots of gas and burping. I only took Tums for that...first couple of days did take Ibuprofen which helped. All I did was drink water and stayed in the bed slept soundly...for almost a week. Chris called every day to make sure I was okay...I did not have any family come ~ refused to pass this on the them. Davids wife Karen had the same thing and also stayed in bed. David took care of her. I did not catch it from her had not seen them at all when she got sick. Have no idea where it came from. Took me at least two weeks to feel like myself again and have some energy.

Think I told you all that I had lost 3 pounds...soup and crackers, toast and a boiled egg was my main diet while I was sick. Got well and gained that three pounds back pronto...now back to 150.4 this morning. David and Karen took me out to dinner last night. I had shrimp and really enjoyed it. I don't very often cook shrimp at home. The kids gave me a gift card, and a really snazzy letter opener...I had mentioned that I wanted one Xmas Eve, mine had disappeared and I had never replaced it. I am so pleased they got me one. Will enjoy opening the mail today. I will enjoy spending the Amazon gift card. DD and SIL gave me a Kindle for my Birthday. So I can buy books with the card.

Have a great evening and you all stay well. Lee so glad you went to Urgent Care and they gave you medication with the COPD you really have to be very careful. Do take care of yourself. Praying for you. Love, Dot

You ladies are so wonderful - your prayers and good wishes and, now, you rejoice with me that the worst is over! Thank you!!!! Our baby is improving fairly quickly. Now, she has a rash, which the doctor said is the virus leaving her body. She is having a little trouble walking - staggers a bit and falls occasionally, but they said she "forgot" how to walk while confined to a hospital bed and that will improve, too. So grateful and so happy to have her home again.

Mattie, curl up with that afghan you're making - it'll keep you warm while you work!

Camey, great your grandson will be coming to stay with you for a while. I know you both enjoy that.

Lee, follow the doctor's orders (I know you will) as we seem to be in that flu/cold/virus/illness season right now and many are sick. emoticon (was going to send you a bowl of chicken soup, but they don't have one - so this tea will have to do).

Dot, are you over your sickness, now? Sure do hope so.

Mel, my son lived in Thailand for a time - somewhere in the far north as I remember him telling about the train and visiting Chaing Mai. He really enjoyed it.

Nas, hope you're enjoying your daughter's visit!

Vahina, funny memory - telling your dad when he went the wrong way.

Sue, one of my sons-in-law is from San Juan. They love visiting there - especially the scuba diving.

Barbara, Maine is one of the most beautiful places in the country. We used to vacation near Kennebunkport when I was young (but not in winter - LOL)

Leona, sad story about the veteran's records. Excuse me, but wouldn't the armed forces have some record - duty rosters, enlistment forms, or something?!!

Betty, thanks for the reminder! I wouldn't want to miss out on Fasnacht Kuechles (fast-not potato donuts). Ash Wednesday to follow.

Maureen, Tim Hortons is indeed in NY. I've not seen one down here (in Virginia). There was a story that Wendy's (hamburger chain) had bought them out in the US, but I don't know if it's true. The donuts and the coffee are the same as in Canada - Yum!

Jean, I'm with you. Super Bowl Sunday usually means "shopping Sunday" for me because everyone is at home, glued to the TV and the stores are happy to see me! LOL. Not this year, of course, but that's my usual day.

Helen, great to hear you're feeling better too.

Kathy, how are you doing? You had a bunch of problems for a time and I hope they are all over, now.

Well, vacations. As I mentioned, I've not been to Asia. Or Australia. Some of you mentioned your favorite times being simple road trips with your families and I think I would agree. We used to say "Daddy, let's get lost!" and my father would take back roads wherever they led. We'd sometimes tell him to turn down this or that lane and we'd feel we were on a big adventure - although he may have known exactly where we were (not sure). I often did the same with my own kids.

Once, I left my office at 5:00, stopped at a store and bought a tent, a lantern, and a cooler. Grabbed some easy groceries, picked up the kids and said "we're going camping." We got to the lake at dusk. I didn't even know how to pitch the tent and some young people from the next site came and showed me what to do. We had a wonderful weekend and my husband was terribly impressed when he heard that I'd been so adventurous without him.

Have I rambled long enough?!!!

The wind is blowing making it so chilly my goodness have not had this in a while but not planning on being out so will stay in and snuggle up to a blanket on the sofa .
got dinner cooking so need to check on it . Making cauliflower and mashing it up after cooking and add onions and eggs then fry real quick in pam this may not sound good but it is tasty and the only thing with calories is the flour. It is just another veggie which I try to cook for us,

Lee the guy came today and put a new fan in. We had a heater we used for the gks when they slept over, in the winter and my dil's friend gave us one to use so we were warm for the night, regardless. I was glad I had a service contract, but cost me 539.00 a year. High way robbery. Also have contract on oil so if price goes up I don't have to pay more. Another racket. I have had them for years and they are always at my beck and call so I don't want to change. Once they were in my home at 2 am and fixed the heat.

Glad the cat is home. Being a grandma when kids are little is a lot of work, but a lot of fun too. I remember the kids came at 7am and went home at 5. long days 5 days a week. But I would love to be back with those memories now, instead of one going to Greece Thurs with school and the other l4, both taller than me. I will have the boy on his vacation. Reason his sister will not be home and he wants to come. I can use him to get me water and if I have any chores I can get him to do it. I always give him something. After seeing I do that he always asks if there is anything I want done. LOL

Snow started again and the Gov said it could be l5 inches. News says from 4 to l0, anyone's guess but will end at 7 tonight. Tomorrow election and wanted to stay up to see if but have Oncologist apt Wed, if roads are clear and no more snow, other wise will cancel.

As for where we went in our life so far, well, first when my son was two we went to the Cape and put two beds together and he was in the middle. Then we have gone to Disney with him and ourselves. Canada Ontario, Niagara Falls, Toronto, Quebec, .Nova S, Penn., Gettysburg, Washington DC, Maine, Conn, N.H,, Tenn. Maryland, NY, etc. All I can think of at the moment.

Mel, my DH did not like traveling on the water either and said he would never go on another cruise, which he didn't. I was the one that got the cruise from a phone call and gave them my credit card. When DH did not want to go, I tried to get out of it but couldn't so had to take the cruise to get our money used and not lose it. We had a pretty good time. My parents never took us on vacation. Sometimes we would travel to the Oklahoma pan handle to see relatives or western Kansas. We lived a few miles from a state lake so sometimes we went there and had family reunions there. There were seven of us kids and times were hard. At that age, I never knew any better and probably was a lot happier than kids today.

winds up to 45 MPH today..

Off to do some grocery shopping...

The best vacation we had was just before hubby got sick. We went to the UP of Michigan with my brother and sister in law where we got to see ships go through the Soo locks. We visited the Cross In The Woods, Mackinaw City, and just bummed around for several days. The last trip he enjoyed was when we went to Iowa to meet a friend I was acquainted with on the internet. From there we came down this way and ended up in Carthage, Missouri. We did take trips to visit a daughter in OKC when she lived there and to visit son who lives in Kansas. Since hubby has died, I've been back and forth to Michigan, taken bus trips to Tunica, Mississippi, and had get togethers with an internet group in Branson. Also went to Michigan City, Indiana with a cousin and a sister and brother. We also toured the covered bridges. Like I said nothing real exciting. On year we did visit several caves in Kentucky.
Time to get out and do some shopping.........Elsie

Camey I am so sorry about your fan motor and hope you are back in good shape this morning.

Frances so happy to hear Magpie is home and hope she continues to recover.

I broke down and went to an urgent care near here. Have upper respiratory infection (I knew that) but she wanted to treat with antibiotics to protect my lungs (copd) and heart. 10 day and check with own Dr. in a week. So I am doing what I did over the weekend. Same as many on here have had.

As for vacations. When I was about 7 we went for a week to a cabin on Lake Pleasant somewhere near Minneapolis (Leona). Early teens spent time in Long Beach Island NJ.

I was a late bloomer as took care of DH etc. But have taken about 7 Cruises. Went to
AMA week at Nashville .Did Disney World many times. Never traveled abroad.

Now headed back to sofa.

Hugs all,
Lee

Thank you God that Magpie is home safe and sound. Wonderful that you were just able to sit and hold her Frances. Know that Kilean is a happy little boy now his sister is home.

Vacations, memories from California to the East coast. From trips back to England to visit family and store up memories. Summers spent in the NC mountains. To Cruises to far off places. All were enjoyed ~ now that my traveling days are over I will cherish the memories and enjoy the Florida Beaches, Parks and many attractions in a Paradise that I have called home since 1956.

Hugs and Blessings to all,
Dot

Frances, so happy to hear you have Maggie-pie home. Hope it is out of her system and she never has to through that again.

Betty, loved the video. What an artist.

Mattie, I fix that cheese dip with ro-tel tomatoes. It has been a favorite of my family for years.

I have never been on a cruise as my DH did not like traveling on water.
But, I have been all over USA, except for the NE states.
Lived in the Philippines of two years and we traveled all over SE Asia.
One trip we flew to Thailand, took the train through Malaysia. Flew from Singapore to Bali and stayed there several days before flying back to Singapore and then back to PI.
Been all over Thailand as my DH was stationed there for a year and I went over and spent a month with him. One time we flew up to Chiang Mia on a military aircraft. Then when we got up there, they changed the rules that civilians could not longer fly on the planes. So we took the train 3rd class back to his base. We sat on wooden benches and stopped at all the villages as the mail man was on board with us and we handed the mail out the window.

In the USA, we had a travel trailer and later got a truck with a camper on it. My DH usually got 30 day leaves so we would head out and go on adventures with the kids.

Time to close down my memories and head to the showers. I have to take my DD to the Dr today.

Leona, when we took our cruise it was on the Big Red Boat. Long time ago. emoticon

When we were in Can Cun we went up to the Mayan ruins and took a bus tour up where the poor Mexicans lived it was a real eye opener, no beds only one hammock where I guess the parents slept. If they had electricity it was one bulb hanging in the middle of the room, they cooked on an open fire place and they had lots of kids. One lady had a sewing machine and she made those beautiful embroidered dresses. The bus was old and the roads were narrow, we drove by little towns where there were no doors or glass in the windows. You could see a television on which seemed odd. Of course the little children begged for money but the bus driver told us not to give them any. Some people did anyway.

Sue, I have friends in Porta Rico. One girl about the same age of my granddaughters called me grandma, too. Maybe I will just come and go with you. Except I don't like to fly.

I think it would be easier to say the states I haven't visited or lived in. I have not been to N or S Dakota, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Washington, Oregon, Alaska and Hawaii. Only place outside of US was Niagara Falls on a trip thru the northeast when I was small (8 or 9). Besides, my Daddy being in the Army, we always took driving vacations in the summer. I could read a map by the time I was 10 and was always telling Daddy, he was going the wrong way. (He was),

Frances, so happy Magdalena is home, hope she is back to her perky self soon.
Most of my vacations are spent on beaches or mountain on the east coast between Maine and Florida. We went to Ireland once and had a great time. My most recent vacation was last summer, we went to Cape May, NJ. Had a delightful time with our DS and his family. This summer we are planning a family vacation with our sons and their families, fifteen of us in all, we are going to San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Going to the track now, not a vacation.

Hello all,

Frances- Wonderful news.
emoticon

Betty- The only cruise line I ever booked as a travel agent and never had a complaint was Premier Cruises, the Big Red Boat. I loved their cruises.

As a child my father would come home and say "lets go fishing" and we would pack the pickup and leave. My sister and I road in the back of the pickup lots of times. We always slept on the ground when we were gone overnight. This is in Texas.

My husband and I took our kids many places and we had a pickup topper for for the kids to ride in when we traveled and where we slept.

My husband also built a roll up and down camper out of metal similar and we used it for camping.
With 5 kids, we could not afford any hotel/motel.

My husband and I moved to Texas after the kids were out of school and opened a travel agency in Austin and then traveled all over the world. That was when the airlines liked us and we had "fam" trips to make us familiar with places areas and sell them.

I have been all over the world and over 100 cruises.

When I was in 3rd grade, I learned to song "Those Far Away Places" and I was hooked. Two favorites were an African safari (photo) and China. I had always wanted to go on a safari even as a child and finally made it. The history of China was interesting and the people so friendly.

I have been in all 50 states.

Sorry so long.

I guess I am going to that "special place in hell" as I am not voting for Hilary.

A veteran from WWll cannot get benefits from the VA as his papers were burned a a fire and they have no record of him. He has a Purple Heart and other metals. He also has his discharge papers but they say that does not count. VA needs a big overhaul. My husband's records were also burned in that fire in 1971 and he also had problems but they finally accepted his records. I just saw this on FOX & Friends.

Need to get busy.

Good morning! Thank you for all your prayers - Magdalena is home!!! She is still a bit weak but seems to be bouncing back quickly - and we still do not know what caused the problem. The doctors say it was most likely a virus of some sort but not one of the "major" ones they can test. She slept a lot yesterday - most of it in my arms not so much because she needed to be there as I needed her there.

Being Grandma 24/7 has really put me behind on everything else, as you can imagine, so I'm going to try to get a weekend's worth of cleaning, errands, etc accomplished today. Then, I can get back here and "chat." Later....

Good Morning everyone,

I have tap class today and a massage this afternoon...

Frances: I pray that your Magpie is better and will soon be home.

Vacations....In my young years my family spent the summer at Iyopawa Island in Coldwater, Michigan...It was an island with a nine hole golf course in the center, a dirt road around it and a few cottages with a dock and a row boat. My dad dropped us off there (my mom, brother andI) after Memorial day and picked us up on Labor day...Dad was a salesman and traveled around selling his lawn mowers and would come in on the weekends. My brother had polio when he was very little and my parents did everything to help him make his leg stronger and swimming was a great exercise for him. We had a grand time swimming, retrieving gold balls from the lake, and fishing We always went home with a huge sack of retrieved golf balls....Went back a few years ago and it was all built up, not a vacant lot left...with pontoon boats etc...not a row boat left.
After marriage we went to Florida, Tampa, Siesta Key, and a few other beaches...recently we enjoy the Outer Banks and I have also vacationed in California and Cap Cod and Key West. I did take a cruise on the Big Red Boat when my dd was a travel agent. Some of the vacations were family reunions with the Valle family which were always fun...I am fortunate that my kids always include me in when the go to the beach.

Enjoy your Monday!!! Lent starts this week so tomorrow is Mardi Gras...

Smiles, Betty :)

to everyone who is under the weather...

Have you heard of the ministry named Capitol Commission? This ministry is to legislatures in several states and they hope to expand to all states. Today we had a speaker from the one in Jefferson City, MO explain their mission and purpose. It was quite interesting. Their web site is capitolcom.org. All he asked for was prayer. The prayer site is pray1tim2.org.

Only 6 weeks until the official start of spring...

Leona, I enjoy "Idiotest" also. Usually, I can figure them out but sometimes, they are so small I can't read them without going over to the TV. Keeps you thinking to try to figure them out. They are pretty sneaky with how they word the puzzle.

Barbara we used the house mouse trap and threw the whole thing away but the mouse was inside so we never saw it dead.

Leona, DH wants me to get it so it is easy for him but if I do then I will probably lose my hands as arthritis needs them to keep moving. It is only certain times they hurt.

I had an experience today. Kept telling DH I smelled smoke coming from the furnace and he insisted there was nothing, but maybe coming from outside. Well, this morning put the heat up and did not move past 69. Finally he agreed to call man and our fan motor is gone and overheating. We have a heater we had for the kids and a friend gave us the use of another as tonight we will not have heat. The supplier is closed on Sunday so the man is coming tomorrow with the new one.

Then after he left DH went to get a fan as the man said to put the fan blowing toward the furnace so it would help the heat to come up a little. Anyway, before he took out the fan motor he made the heat go to 78 and now it is 74. Not sure when it will go down but we are still getting heat. Our electric bill is going to be through the roof as the furnace is still running all day long and hasn't stopped. When the man left we went to the 65 year old party and came home at 4 and he is watching the game. I did not eat supper as we had a brunch breakfast at l:00 and then all sorts of pastry and I did watch how much I took. I only could do 60 on the bike as I am tired. Awoke at 5:30 and got up at 6 for heat then we went to church as it was two hour wait for the guy.

the mouse plus a friend. Wonder how many are left. Just set another trap.

Poor little things. Makes me feel sad killing them. I throw away the mouse and trap. I will not take them off. DH does not want to either.

I had a great time with the youngsters. GGS Preston had a friend with him named Ethan. They sacked the pop cans that I had collected in the garage. GGD
Ashlynn cleaned up the mess that she her cousin Phog made when they were here Christmas. Now I need to get the shop vac and clean up stuff on the carpet and the cement. I guess I should have had the kids do it but there is a wheel off the shop vac and makes it kind of difficult. The boys went back to my sons yesterday afternoon and he brought them back this morning on his way to work. Ethan was the most polite 13 year old I have ever seen. He thanked me several times for things, I told me at least twice how good the dinner was yesterday at noon. He was kind of quiet but that could have been because he did not know me before. After church this morning we came home and had pizza and they played for awhile. I took them to their grandparents this afternoon. Both Preston and Ethan's grandparents lived in the same town. I went past my DD's and left a couple things. Then came home. There was a family using the community building so I went by to check on them and they were just leaving so I checked the building, turned down the heat and locked up. I was glad that I check so I did not have to get out again.

It is a little late for a nap but sounds like a good idea.

Some of you were talking about mice and made me get up and clean out the pantry. I have one side where I store extra dishes, cooking pans and so forth. I knew the mice had been there so I cleaned that today. I had to take all the things out and wash them. I ran out of my Lysol so will have to get more.

When my husband redid the kitchen, he lined all my sliding drawers out of sheet metal. He also had sliding cabinets with metal shelves. Hard to explain. I keep all my food in these and no problem with the mice there. Since I live out in the country and on a lake, I get those creatures. I also have woods near me. It s nice to have sheet metal men in the family.

The one I said is so busy called today to check on me. He has been doing a low of snow plowing and with the winds, he had to redo some areas. He does American Linen in Minneapolis and it keeps him busy as well as his main job as a car mechanic. I told him I had posted the Mother's Day card he got for me. He said he will always be there for me and I know that. Another son called and asked where I was, I said in the shower after I cleaned the back closet. I guess I did not hear the phone ring.

Does anyone watch Idiotest? It is on the game channel and it is on now. I try to do the tests.

We had some rain and now snow. I will be home tomorrow.

Thanks, Jean. I will check on the pattern. I am doing the ripple now for a granddaughter.

Leona, I wanted to tell you that you can most likely find the patern for the Tuxedo Afghan on Lion Brand. I came by it when I ordered a little booklet of patterns called, "Granny Squares Reimaged". You may have already found it. It is an easy pattern.

I am not a football fan, but since NC has an interest in this Super Bowl, I can watch for touch downs...outside of that, I am lost. So I will keep up with the score.

Maureen - My apologies to you. I checked Tim Horton and they are still involved in the U.S. as you said.

Betty - Love that little kitty of yours. Tiny ball of fun!

Mel - I had no idea mice could be so destructive!

Sue - I sit here on my duff and wish I had your ambition. My laundry is waiting for some action.

Jean - Wishing you all the best with your new computer. A friend of mine just got a new IPad and is spending hours nearly every day trying to get it going the right way.

Lee & Dot - Hope you beat that bug real soon!

I'm feeling much better - have the pain under control. Thanks!

Watching all the hoopla prior to the Super Bowl and learned that a ride on the trolley car today costs $7. Whaaaa?

Just a short message to let Frances know I am praying for Magdalena. I pray they find the results today and she is able to come home soon.

Yesterday, I got our old Macintosh Powerbook 170 out and went through the disks. Will keep some blank ones just in case I need them. In the box with the computer was the receipt for the computer. In 1991, we paid $4500. for it. Computers have come a long ways.

Today, I am going to learn how to use Excel. My DH always did all the work on it and I never paid much attention. So that is my goal today. Never too old to learn.

Have a great day.

Cold here today and I didn't sleep well last night so I was up at 4:00AM. I usually strip my bed and wash the sheets on Saturday but I was out early yesterday so I did it before church this morning. They were ready to put back on the bed when I got home. Got two more loads of laundry done since then but I could go to sleep now.

Dinner last night was wonderful but I ate too much so I am trying to make up for that today.

Get rid of those mice, they do a lot of damage. Three or four years ago the a/c in our car died, took it into the garage and mice had got in there and we had to replace the a/c. Three weeks late it happened again making us realize they were in the garage. They were nesting in an old dresser that I had put fabric in. We cleaned out the garage, threw away all the fabric and yarn I had been saving, got mouse-proof containers for the bird seed and had an exterminator treat the garage and crawl space and car. No more mice but we keep bait around the garage and check it periodically.

Have a blessed Sunday.

Hi all:

Hope they can find out what is causing this with Magpie, Knowing is half the battle and she has my prayers.

I cannot take any anti inflammatory meds as they balloon me and my BP. I know my friend can take them, but then she is on dialysis which you know they remove fluid.

Hope you can reach a happy medium Helen.

I am staying home today and very sad that I will miss a very important (to me) memorial.
this has turned into an upper respiratory thing and I am sure no one else would appreciate getting it. My friend Liz will take my regrets.

Dot hope you are still taking care so you won't have a relapse.

Going down into the 30's tonight. Ouch. Like others, I am glad Frances, Mel and Leona etal posted so thoroughly and eloquently..

So I shall simply wish each and everyone a blessed and peaceful Sunday.
Hugs,
Lee

Good morning! Thank you for all the good wishes and prayers for our little Magdalena. She is still in hospital and still without a definite diagnosis. Yesterday, her temperature went down to 99.something but was up again last evening. They have her on an iv and antibiotics, but the catheter is out and I think most of the tests are done. There was talk of releasing her today, but now I'm not certain.

Kilean is being a trouper, with only a few sad moments - usually when he first wakes up and finds his sister "missing." We spent a few hours walking around town, at the library, toy store, and other shops yesterday and I think that helped too.

I have to feed the dogs, let them out and then mop the floor before the day gets any older, so will check back in this afternoon or evening.

Hello all,

Up way early today so maybe I will get more done. I think a good day to change the sheets and do some more baking.

We had some rain/snow last night and now more later today. First the advisory was from 10 AM this morning and now it is from 7 PM tonight. They cannot decide.

I watched the debate off and on.

Frances- Hope Magpie is doing better. emoticon

Take care,

It is so scary when little ones are in the hospital. At least it was for us last spring when Lisha spent 5 days in the hospital at 7 weeks with RSV. She was on oxygen for 3 of those days. Sure hope magpie isn't that ill.

I too have a mouse I'm trying to catch up with. I do need to put down fresh Tom cat sticky pads. They do work and I don't have to mess with traps. They will even catch the ones that are too small for the traps.

Wishing everyone a serene and pleasant Sunday.

Elsie

Mickey - That's real interesting b/c the reason why a doctor put me on a diuretic was b/c the HBP meds I was on didn't have a diuretic. So earlier, when I was in pain, why did that pharmacist take all the over the counter meds away from me and said that was a "no no"???

She said I had to get a prescription from my doctor and said the HBP meds would not work properly with the Aleve.

Anyhow, it is always better to check before you do anything on your own.

The debate tonight was really interesting. They actually got involved and seemed to be better informed. Bu what do I know, right? LOL

Hi everyone, bright sunny day after getting 8+ inches of heavy wet snow yesterday. But we did not lose power, so that was a good thing. We got plowed out last night and today we went out. Our street was beautiful as the trees still had all the snow on them. The main roads were clear-so we did some grocery shopping. This afternoon we went to my son's home as my DGD had some foot surgery on Thurs. and had a plate and scres in. She was uncomfortable today, will end up in a cast and on crutches for 6-8 wks. She wants to go back to college on Tues., hope things ease off for her.

Someone mentioned Aleve and HBP meds, it really depends on what you are on. If the med has a diuretic in it - what happens is that Aleve makes you retain fluid while your HBP med is trying to get rid of it. I have a friend who tore her rotator cuff and has HBP-doc told her to take the Aleve for four days to help her cut the inflammation and pain- the lesser of two evils for the short term. My PMP says "In general, no NSAIDS for people over 70...but there are exceptions."

Sorry to hear about MagPie - hope she gets better soon.

Hope all those colds/flu run their course quickly.

Time to go make some jello-my DH has his colonoscopy on Monday, so tomorrow is his 'liquids only' day. I can tell it is going to be a very long day!!!

Take care.

Since most of you will not read The Secret To Hummingbird Cake, the secret to the very good cake is made by some one you love or loves you and that why is tastes so special. That is the secret ingredient. Love.

My grandmother would make polenta on her wood stove and my sister and I always said it was better than our mother's polenta. My grandmother was from Italy.

Here again - but by the time I read all the posts, I have forgotten what I wanted to say.

Barbara - do check with your doctor or pharmacist when trying to alter meds, cut in half, etc. I learned you can't take any pain meds. over the counter if you are on h.b.p. meds. I have already told two people who didn't know this - and one kept falling down and didn't know why. She took Aleve right after her h.b.p. - as I was told - Aleve negates the b.p. pill so your blood pressure could go sky high or whatever. Anything for pain you have to see your doctor for a prescription.

I'm going to watch the debate tonight and am still debating about the Super Bowl tomorrow, altho' San Francisco will be in the public eye, so I probably will out of curiosity. I love football, don't get me wrong.
I was so disappointed in the antics last time or was it time before? with how the game was called.

Jean - I think some kids just want to do what they want to do. I was one of those. My sister was always getting into trouble with playmates, so I can see now why my mother tried to steer her in a different direction. Ha!

I just discovered I had the Nat'l Geographic channel and another one that was so interesting - on Cairo, Egypt. Going back centuries. Fascinating how they kept the city clean - or tried to. Then when the huge trucks from industrial countries came in, the poor people ended up getting swine flu! So much for innovation.

Maureen - Didn't Tim Horton's get out of the U.S.? Seems to me, too much competition in the U.S. and the Americans are more loyal to their own businesses than we are here, altho' we are getting there!

Be good!

Good wishes for Mag-Pie to get well, Frances.

What a great day I had today! My younger ds & wife came in and he had made me two step stools (I guess you call them that) after asking me if there was any chores he could do for me. I suggested he make one 4 inches high and about 12 inches wide so I can reach the second shelf in my cabinets; right now can only get off the front part of the shelf, and when stretching and that hurts my back. And I told him I could use it by my bed at night, as the bed is so high I have trouble getting in. So when they got here, he had made two! with a slot in the center to put your hand to pick it up. they are just the right size and so nice!!!
While they were here, he hung some pictures for me that I had been wanting to get up.

I had made stew in the crock-pot and had a bought pie. He has just had oral surgery so he was able to mash the carrots and potatoes and put the gravy on them and eat that way. I know how much he loves blue-berries, so I had bought him blue-berry muffins, which I sent home with them, along with most of the leftover stew.

When they left here, they were going to her parents' home so my ds could fix a small leak in their bathroom and one in their kitchen. He is so handy! And so good to help us parents. I don't know what we would do without him. Needless to say, my dil's parents think the world of him, too.

Time for a shower and then to find something to watch on TV.

Good evening everyone. It has been a beautiful day here, a little cool, the sun was shinning. Tomorrow it is to be sunny and around 50. Later in the evening it is going to start cooling off. Snow next week.

Dot glad you feeling better.

Frances I also hate doing taxes. We have friends he is 85 and she is around 65, they don't file taxes since they don't have any income coming in. They only have ss, no petition.

We had a mouse in the house not to long ago. First one in over a year. We live in the country, Once we saw all the signs, we caught him that night. Thank goodness, I don't like mice at all.

This afternoon I worked on my quilt. I now have one row done, and 4 blocks of the second row.

Thanks everyone for the concern about my GD. She emailed me this afternoon to say "she was feeling better".

Going to rest my back some. Talk to all tomorrow.
