We had quite an interesting day....we went to Valerie's doctor appointment BUT at the wrong time....lol......we were an hour late so she had to reschedule...so we went grocery shopping...lol At least we got to Walmart before the mad crowds hit as it was fairly empty at the noon time..After getting home and putting everything away, I took a long nap so now am posting late..

Did't get a chance to wish the birthday people a happy birthday so here it is.......

Sue- I bet your grandson was much more fun than any groceries. emoticon

Mel- They are still finding people in Mexico. Hope you daughter-in-law is fine.

The cross stitch will not work on the blanket/afghan I made for my son. He may just end up with a solid blue one. I tried many different ways but the blanket is too long to make it look good.

I started a plastic canvas tissue holder for my granddaughter. It has the TCU (Texas Christian University) logo on it.

Caney- Good long living for most of your family.

Lee- Hope the results are OK.

Frances- I had a lazy day today. Sometimes the body asks for it. Do you drink flavored coffee? That is my afternoon coffee if I have coffee.

Helen- Nice to see you post again.

Dot- You keep getting the points. emoticon I get 1 or 2.

Started a book I received in the mail I think I won from goodreads. No note, just a book. It is An Echo of Murder by Anne Perry. She is English. emoticon

Have a good night.

Lee on my father's side mostly for grandparents.

Frances, yes we are getting it from Jose but not as bad as the cape. Today it was 58 and light rain. Hope tomorrow is better because the church has the fair.

I got my hair cut and not it has to grow out some.

TGIF. Of course as we retire, every day can be TGIF.

MaryLou, I agree with you, I also like activities. That is why I like cards.

Dot, hope you get some energy, so you can enjoy your time with your sister.

Helen, it will be interesting to see how the winter olympics pans out. I already heard of one country say they might withdraw.
So sorry you are having some many eating issues. I want to lose weight, but not that way.
Take care.

Frances, enjoy your R&R. You earned it big time.

Carol, love the singing family and birthday tradition.

Camey, sounds like you have a lot of family members who lived a long time. Good Genes.
That always helps.

Sue, wow 90s for upper IL at this time of the year. That is warm. We are finally getting into the mid 90s here.

Lee, pray the annual test goes well.

Leona, my DH spent 22 years in the USAF. I hope the snow does not come too soon in your area. That would make for a very long winter.

Maureen. it is my daughter in law who is in Mexico. She is really having some anxiety issues.
She keeps worrying about a 2nd earthquake. She said 44 building collapsed and 144 are unstable at this time. She does have family there. She was born there. Her father was Dr in Mexico and her mother is from NY. She did report that none of family or friends have been injured in the quake. Her business is in Mexico. So she travels there every 2 months.
I am thinking, she might not be traveling as often after this scare.

Time for me to get on with the day. I have my fall decor out and will be decorating the house today.

Some time ago our leader, Marlene, suggested we have our birth month and date at the bottom of our post, along with the city and state we reside in. It seems to me to be a good suggestion.
I know I, for one, could use that help in remembering birthdays, and it is fun to see where our members reside.

Helen, glad you are back; you were missed.

Dot, I understand your not looking forward to running errands. Yesterday I went grocery shopping and I had the bagger put only a few items in each bag since I have so much trouble carrying anything in. It was still a tough grind, but I got through it.

Something I find surprising, is that I have had calls offering help from my friends in my craft and exercise class, and offers to come visit, but almost no acknowledgment from the members of my church, other than from my SS teacher and one other. It's been almost 3 months since I was able to go to church or SS. I have attended this church for 30 years, so I find this surprising. But on the other hand, I have never been in one of the 'tight' groups.
I have noticed that the ones I know best do not "do anything". By that, I mean, crafts, exercising, etc. Their social life is built around eating out, which is fine, I guess. and I did
enjoy the potlucks when I was able to go. It's just that I like to do something besides just sit and eat and talk. (not that I have anything against talking. lol)

Nevertheless, I think I am a square peg that doesn't fit into a round hole! I like activity.

But one thing I learned the last time I was sick for an extended period of time. There are at least two others from my class that are basically home-bound so I made it a practice to call each one of them on a regular basis. I still do. It's hard to feel you have been forgotten, so I learned a lesson.

Now to get up and do something besides sit here. I have been spending too much time on the computer.
.
Which reminds me, I haven't crocheted for awhile, so i think that is what I will do now.

Mary Lou

Grocery store is first on the list and the bank. Tomorrow will be going to the Time Share with sister. so much to do and no time to do it...or desire.

Happy Birthday to all those that are having them...I might not get these right....Frances, Carol, Mel, have a great time, God bless you all.

Frances - I forgot to mention that for the first time in months I had regular coffee this morning! Couldn't help thinking of you and how much you enjoy yours, as did I. . . ! Ha.

Mary Lou - Yup there is so much suffering out there with all the hurricanes and earthquakes.

And that No. Korean rocket maniac keeps everyone astir, including the Chinese now. The Winter Olympics will be held in So. Korea next winter - wonder who will be attending? What a shame that event might get spoiled for all those athletes who have trained for so many years. But they say No. Korea has been gearing up their athletes, so all might not be lost. . .

Carol, my apologies for missing your birthday; I can only hope it was a good one.

Frances, enjoy your day off; you certainly deserve it.

Lee, good luck with your pulmonary function test (I despise that test)!

So many tragedies occurring; it is so sad that so many have lost lives, their homes, their livelihoods, etc.Their needs are so many, and thanks to those who respond. All I can do is make a donation (and it is a pittance, unfortunately) when the needs are so great. But if everyone can give a 'pittance' it will add up

Okay, ladies. Here is the last one.

SENIOR DRIVING

As a senior citizen was driving down the freeway, his car phone rang.
Answering, he heard his wife's voice urgently warning him, 'Herman, I just heard on the news that there's a car going the wrong way on Interstate 77.
Please be careful!'
'Heck,' said Herman, 'It's not just one car.
It's hundreds of them!'

TELL ME THIS WON'T HAPPEN TO US !!!!

emoticon and best wishes to all those who celebrated and are celebrating! Yahoo! emoticon

Well, they forecast snow, but the sun is shining and the temp. is 1C or freezing out there.

Just figured out I have to take 3 nausea pills a day in order to feel good enough to eat. They put anorexia on my CT Scan. This is DEFINITELY not the way to lose weight! LOL

Been getting phone calls from my niece and nephews and next door neighbour, who is having issues with her eyes right now. She has paid $3,000 out of pocket to have a special lens inserted in one eye that acts as a trifocal - is there such a word? But you get what I mean. She'll have 20/20 vision in that eye. My sprinkler man has had the same thing done in both eyes. They didn't have that when I had mine done eons ago. . .!

So happy to know everyone is safe even though some are sweltering in the heat. They say our warmer weather will come back, but who knows???

Take care and be good!

Good morning! Thanks for all the birthday wishes. I will pass them on. Silly me TODAY is Friday. My son's birthday is tomorrow, Saturday. I had the right date in mind, but thought yesterday was Wednesday... Oh the addled mind of an overtired grandma. LOL

I have a "day off" today. Badly needed as I was nearing the breaking point, I think. While I was folding the children's laundry last evening, I wasn't sure I could even stay awake any longer. I did, but when my head finally hit the pillow it was lights out for sure. I need to go to the grocery for a few items today, but am not planning on anything else but R&R.

Carol, what a fun tradition with your brother. Enjoy your day out!

Camey, you must certainly be getting effects from Jose. We're having 80s and no winds both here and in upstate NY this week.

Sue, grandchildren are always a better option than doing chores, right?!

Lee, good luck with the pulmonary test. Hope all is well.

Leona, you now have me singing that old jingle "nothing can beat the Army Air Corps!" Remember that? I don't recall when that was their pr line, but I must have been pretty young.
And about that house... wouldn't it make more sense to build a second story on top, than to raise from the bottom? I'm sure there's a reason they chose to do it that way, but...

Sharon, you are good about pacing yourself as you need. Good job!

Maureen, I hope you had a good night's sleep and are rested today. Yes, my sister is still healthy, living on her own, and driving (short hops in the daytime).

Marlene, Stella is a trouper and a star with that pink cast! I love your "bigs" "middles" and "littles." We actually have "bigs" - 18, 21, 27 and 29, and "littles" - 2, 4, 5, 11, 14, but no "middles." Or maybe we could put the 11 and 14-year olds in their own group. LOL

Mel, you seem to be doing a lot in spite of your cold. Take some time to rest, too.

It's nearly 10 a.m. I'm still in my pjs and am going to go find another cup of coffee. If I don't do a single "productive thing today, that is just fine with me. emoticon

Morning ladies,

Thank you so much for the birthday wishes, it does make the impersonal internet a personal one. Had a very nice day, oh my brother and I have a tradition of calling and singing happy birthday on the phone. Well his MIL was there and she really can sing, so when they called not only did I get a song but they harmonized, gee they were good. emoticon

Lee - thanks for the info on OCean Saline nasal spray, will get it for DH.

Leona - dreaming snow......eek???? Of course dreaming it is a lot better than being in it.

Mel - that is awful for your DIL, having to stay in Mexico till the 28th will all that destruction

I have an appointment this morning for color and cut, then off to Kohls with my 30% coupon + birthday $10.00 gift

Waving to all emoticon

Every day I am on the verge of making slight changes that would make all the difference in my life.

It is 58 out now and windy. I want to get my hair cut but not sure if I will blow away as dh has to park up the street and I have to walk. No parking all taken when I go.

I have to frost cookies for the fair tomorrow and bring them today as they want all pastry today for the spaghetti supper tomorrow.

Not sure what I will make today.

Frances, my dad lived till 93 but only because he had to go to a nursing home which he stopped eating and got sick and died. My bro made 86 and here I am 84 so not sure what I will make.

My grandmother was 90 on my dad's side but on my mother side, they died in the 60 range.
My dad's family died in the 80 range and on my mother side 70 range. So we will see.

I called Epson on the printer and I did the nozzle and still not getting all the printing.I will call them again but probably have to have it serviced. Used to have someone take care of it for me but he is so busy now with his kids games and he also coaches teams. So I am at a loss.

Good morning. Yesterday was a record breaker here. We were in the 90's. We will have a few 90's in a row which is remarkable for northern Illinois in September.
I need to go to get groceries today. I was on my way to get groceries yesterday when my son needed me to babysit, so I went over there. Played with my grandson, which was more fun. So now I am off to get the job done. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Yesterday was warm and humid. Dew point is up and sounds like we could have a stormy day today and then rain off and on for the next week. It would be nice if we could really get some rain out of this. I did my 60 minutes walking but didn't do much else for yesterday. I did a few little things around the house and read a little. Dozed in my chair because hadn't slept well the night before. Hope today is a better day but it is already very humid and high dew points. Have a good day.

Hello all,

Frances also emoticon s to your family. 91 is wonderful.

I spent the night at my daughter's house. The dogs are fun and well behaved.
Max, the older one, always sleeps next to my side of the bed. Last night I turned off the TV, gave them their treats and then I went to the bathroom. When I got to the bedroom, Max was already there lying next tp the bed. emoticon

I finished crocheting the blanket/afghan for my son and now I need to cross stitch a sailboat on it. I have never done this so a learning experience.

Helen- Nice to see you post.

Mel glad she was ok in Mexico and hope GS gets better.

The ear unblocked yesterday late and today went grocery shopping and is blocked again.
So I am getting the netty pot ready and Vick. My sinus is acting up again and have a headache.
Nose blocked too.

I am doing clothes and getting email done and then bike and tied as seems when you have to go out and come back things you needed to do still have to be done.

Happy birthday Carol and Doli.

Sorry, I was missing for a few days. Seems like every day there is a new challenge.
DGS is back in the hospital and they are trying to find a slot in a behavioral center for him.
Then my DIL, who was with my son on the cruise from Cuba just before the hurricane hit FL.
Well, she was in Mexico City on business when the earthquake hit. She was in a office building and close to a building that fell. She is ok, but not due to come back until Sept 28th.
Anyway, plus being down with a cold, that has been my world for the last few days.

One upside of the cold is I lost my taste buds. So maybe a few pounds will get lost also.
We shall see.

Happy Birthday Carol. emoticon Hope you are having an awesome celebration.

Lee and others, I also enjoy James Patterson books. Have not read any in a couple years. Will have to put that on my bucket list.

Helen, happy to see you posted. Sounds like things are improving for you.

MaryLou, love your jokes. Will have to share some with my card playing friends.

Marlene, love the picture of your little ones. So great that they can be together and create memories.

Time for me to close and get on with the day. I need to clean the inside of my car today.
This car has a black interior and I hate it. Also need to gather up some things to donate to a club for their garage sale.
Then I need to start cleaning out the top shelves in my bottom kitchen cabinets in preparation for the installation of my new countertops.

Have a good one.

emoticon emoticon emoticon HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAROL emoticon emoticon emoticon Hope it is a fantastic 75th year celebration. Let the good times roll.

I am reading a James Patterson book right now. I like almost all of them. This is the latest (I think Alex Cross book)

It is sunny and although warm here Frances, I ti a beautiful day. I feel so bad for those who were so decimated and will be without power for so long.

Yes, Maureen all got done yesterday in a timely manner and the "kids" now have a safe Vehicle to drive. for the treatments. Thanks.

emoticon to Doti/Artchick, would love to see you again.

Mary Lou Love your funnies. But does remind me that sometimes I feel like I am they.
If your Dr. tells you what you can do for Spinal Stenosis. Do let me know. Good luck.

Sure hope you get to feeling better Helen.

Are you getting there? I swear by OCean saline nasals spray for allergies and sinus problems. Big O on white bottle with an orange cap. I lg bottle or a pkg of 2 smaller containers. I have both.

Hope those under par start to feel much better.
Hugs,
Lee

Morning ladies,

Sue and Sharon, add me in the group who really enjoys James Patterson. I have read him for years....and years

Thanks for the birthday wishes, can't believe I am 75, gee that just sounds old. We are members of the "Aquarium of the Pacific" in Long Beach and later today will go and enjoy. Then out to dinner, not sure where.

Have a healthy day

Yesterday was lovely at 75, sunny and light wind. I doesn't get better than that. I did some little things around the house. I got my toaster cleaned and it really needed it. I am sad to say it has been very neglected. LOL. I finished my book and can now move on to the next one. I just finished a James Patterson book and it was very good. I like his books. I did my 60 minutes of walking done. Hope you all have a good day.

Glad to see you back, Helen. As you know by now, we get concerned when one of our friends seems to disappear.

I had the MRI but don't know anything yet except that the spinal stenosis is worse. Now I wait to hear from my primary to see what is next.

Afterward, my dd and I had lunch at Olive Garden; we had chicken and gnocchi soup and salad (our favorite lunch there) and it had been some time since we had done that. It felt so good to be out and 'act normal'. Then back here for some more chatting. I certainly did enjoy my day, except it was hard to lie on my back so long, I did take more pain pills than I usually do, but not more than allowed. I wanted to get thru what I had to get thru, and to enjoy some time with my dd. We used to be so close, best friends, in fact, but it seemed like we had lost that some years ago, and now it is returning, and I am over the moon about that. So all in all, it was a good day.

Later, I did have to lie down for a couple of hours until the pain let up somewhat, but it was worth it. And I dozed off, so I am not sure how that will affect my sleep tonight as I usually don't nap in the daytime, but oh well, I can always read. And right now, the Cardinals are winning, so all is right with my world.

Now one more to sleep on:

Two elderly gentlemen had been friends for many decades. Over the years, they had shared all kinds of activities and adventures.
Lately, their activities had been limited to meeting a few times a week to play cards.
One day, they were playing cards when one looked at the other and said, 'Now don't get mad at me ....
I know we've been friends for a long time, but I just can't think of your name!
I've thought and thought, but I can't remember it.
Please tell me what your name is…
His friend stared at him for at least three minutes -- he just stared and stared at him.
Finally, he said, 'How soon do you need to know?'

TELL ME THIS WON'T HAPPEN TO US!!!!

Mary Lou

Frances, Stella and Naomi are the only girls in the Littles. Stella was so proud of her cast, letting everyone write their name on it. Stella is two and Naomi is 4 months
I have another great granddaughter that is one of the Middles. Ashlynn is 12 and in the 7th grade. She will play basketball and is also a cheerleader. We call Phog a Middle but he is only 8, and Preston is 14. The Biguns (big ones) are Darren 18 next week and Andrew 16.

They played pretty good together. 8 little cousins. The older ones are all in school.

Marlene, you have a wonderful "next generation" there! Am I correct that only Stella and one of the babies are girls? Or is it 3?

Dot, I hope you feel well before too long. These "bugs" can linger sometimes.

Lee, it looks like Maria is going to miss you entirely. We may get rain from her - although no way to know, yet. They're saying she and Jose might get together and stall off the coast. Since we're having a week of heat and humidity, I can't think a few days or even a week of rain will be too terrible.

Mary Lou, I know quite a few younger people who prefer to shop locally, also. I think a combination of online and brick-and-mortar is just fine, but I never hold with any retailer running competition out of business.

The babes are ready for their bath, so I can't linger, but will check in tomorrow.

Dot I felt the same way this morning. Try putting some Vick on your forehead and hose. It helps and also a netty pot with some salt. I am coughing and sneezing and headache and dizziness this morning and now it is gone. But still sneezing. I think my problem is Hailey but I will not give her up.

I just returned from the luncheon after the funeral Mass. I washed and dried a zillion dishes, and metal pans (There was a lot of meatballs, portions of pasta, etc and of course a dessert table too. I believe we fed everyone well and they were pleased. I returned here at 3;30 and now have to go back to church for the Colunbiettes monthly meeting Yes, it is a very busy day. I am in charge of our bake sale for October so I have been making lists for members to fill out. emoticon

The firefighters were here and fixed the elevator just before I had to leave and I was so relieved.
What is left of the whipped cream frosted cake will be served after our meeting tonight. so nothing wasted.

I will change clothes and rest my eyes. now. Michelle picks me up at 6:30.

Have a great Sunday everyone and pray for those poor souls in hurricane alley and for the persons in Mexico...I shall....So much loss of lives. So very sad. emoticon

Sorry to draw so much concern here. As you know, I haven't felt well since before Christmas. Slowly getting back on my feet again. Now I know what those with anorexia go through! Not funny.

Been reading the posts, liked the quizzes and jokes. Thanks for the soup goodie, Mary Lou - came in handy!

I won't be here that often - my nails are actually long and strong for the first time in my life so typing is a problem. I keep staring at them in awe! LOL

Take good care everyone. Glad you are all safe from the hurricanes.

Carol I am flying through today as well. Picked Brian up at 9 and took him home. Leave in about half hour to Pick up Pam to get the truck. Hoping ready as I really don't feel like taking her to Dr. and waiting but will, as she always puts Brian first and needs medical help to.

Mary Lou hope the MRI will provide a means to help you w/o surgery.

I confess I shop stores AND Amazon. Nice to have them take Birthday gifts etc right to Ben.

Praying for those in Maria and Mexico in Earthquakes.

You seem to know exactly what to do when you have bad breathing Sharon. Good for you.

Dot sorry you are feeling yucky still and pray for better.

That's it for me today.

I know what you are saying, Frances. A furniture retailer here with 6 stores is closing all of them because of competition from chains. I have bought furniture from them for years and years.I wonder if we will have any choices one day as to whom we can buy from. I, for one, like to see what I am buying before I purchase it, not after it is delivered.
It is a changing world, and I am not very willing to change with it. Maybe that is part of growing old. My sis feels the same way.

Dot, glad you are feeling somewhat better; here's hoping for 100% better!

One more to start the day:

A little old lady was running up and down the halls in a nursing home.
As she walked, she would flip up the hem of her nightgown and say 'Supersex.'
She walked up to an elderly man in a wheelchair…
Flipping her gown at him, she said, 'Supersex...'
He sat silently for a moment or two and finally answered, 'I'll take the soup.'

TELL ME THIS WON'T HAPPEN TO US!

Well, my dd is due here soon, so I had better not stay on here.

I am still feeling under par this morning. Slept well with a couple of dreams that woke me. Not bad ones. Have sinus problems now and dizziness...so am stuck in the house for another day or more. Have gone through this before.

Mary Lou it is not near as bad as what pain you are going through. So do hope and pray you get the help you need. I enjoyed the laughs! Cute and funny! Laughter really does help when you are going through the tough times ~ The 18th marked the one year passing of Chris. I miss him so much, especially going through the hurricane. He would have stayed with me and I would not have had to leave the house. I was very grateful I still have David who took care of me...poor guy was without electricity for a week...mine came back on after a day. I am in an area that the lines are buried and I think that makes a difference. Thinking and praying for you and Mickey in these tough times and others who suffer.

All the very best,
Dot

Awoke to a blocked ear on both sides. I think it is the allergies.Be happy when Monday comes and I see the Neurologist. I might also ask him if I remember about the spasms as I think they are from nerves, not sure.

Another cloudy day with showers and wind but thank God no hurricane for us. Heard Maria might decide to turn toward the coast and come to us. Hope not. Feel bad for PR as they are really getting it bad. Not good news with all the hurricanes and earthquakes. Still, think God is angry. Too much greed in the world, nothing getting done for the people who need it either.

Decided to take out hamburgers for lunch. Wanted to go out but with the ear, blockage think I will stay put.

Hello on Wednesday.

Well, I am mystified, I thought that I sent a post yesterday and I can't find it. Perhaps I did not press the send key...

Our elevator has been out of commission all day yesterday and now this morning. I know have made six calls to our HOA and each time they called back to say it was fixed and each time I went out to see and it was not! My great concern this morning is that I must take my large sheet cake to the church at about twelve for the luncheon after the funeral mass and I do not know if I can manage it and myself on the stairs!!! My neighbors will be away and since I usually grasp the rail if I do stairs, can I balance myself and the cake sufficiently? I just called and they said that the elevator repair people have to wait for the official paperwork before they venture out...so we shall see what ensues.

In the meantime, I must whip the cream and apply it to the cake and that is my immediate task so I better get that accomplished.

Our meeting last night of the residents here was cordial and yet I do not see much being accomplished by it. I noted my grievances and that is about all that I can do.
Our hallways and stairways have not been cleaned for over two years now and all that they tell us is that the money is going elsewhere for repairs...I have tried to enlist the occupants of our building to help in the clean-up but it has not worked so far. My current dilemma!

Off to make the whipped cream.
I will let you know later if I 'dropped the cake'.!
Oh, dear this is a small matter when I think of the floods, fires, hurricanes, and earthquakes.
I should be ashamed of me!

Doris emoticon

Yesterday was cloudy, humid, windy and it finally rained last night. We had a couple of nice rain showers but thank goodness there was no serious weather right here. It did get to 79 so was a little warm. The humidity and the storm moving in caused a bad breathing day so didn't overdo it. It was a slow and easy day but I did get my 60 minutes walking in. I read some and did a few small projects around the house where I didn't have to move a lot.
