Thanks for the birthday wishes! It was a great day. My daughter and I went to the beach in Fair Hope, Al, took time to just talk about many things and be together. Then to lunch at seafood restaurant on Mobile Bay. Wonderful crab soup, crab cakes served on fried green tomatoes and creamy grits. No dinner for us, did have Birthday cake with my great-grands. They bring so much sunshine to my life. Almost make me want to move here, not yet though.
That wonderful 79 yesterday dropped to 40 and crazy wind.

Sounds like all of you have been busy. Looking for spring soon.

Hello all,
I did drive into Minneapolis today and had lunch with two of my kids. I had the chicken tortilla soup at Fridays, one of my favorites. emoticon

I got a lot of pictures sorted into envelopes. I am writing information on the pictures and sorting them. I have large envelopes and I have names on the envelopes.

I found some today of two of our granddaughters when we took them to Texas. There ia a large tree and one has her head in front of the tree and the other one has her back legs on the other side so it looks like she is stretched. Each girl did this. I am sending them to the girls.

Mickey- Nice of you to do the repair. Have a great time seeing all the flowers. It will help brighten the day. emoticon

Doris- So glad the reading is a great get together. emoticon
Dessert sound good.

Lee- Grandma on a Mission emoticon I have been to functions where they have you sit with someone new. A good idea.

Vahina- I saw the problems on TV. I know what you mean about flooding. It is always a problesm here also. emoticon

Camey- I do hope your oven gets fixed soon.

Maureen- I looked up the Magic Cake Scarf. Clever and pretty. Here is one link I found .http://susanbanderson.blogspot.com/2013/1
2/magic-cake-ruffle-shawl-fini.html

Have a good night.
We are supposed to stay above zero tonight.

Watching them take the plane off the runway that almost went into the water in New York on TV. At least no one was killed .

Also I have not figured out how to post pictures on here. Must go and do a little bit on the knitting and then get settled in for the night. Prayers for all the folks with aches ,pains. and other illnesses. Good Night and God Bless Stay safe and warm. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon Maureen

Hi everyone. Another bitter cold night in store for us. They are predicting temps in the 40's for next week. I sure hope so - I hate wearing all these layers.

Stayed home all day - got some ironing done and a couple of drawers cleared out. All of my DH's activities today were canceled. He was happy not to have to go out tonight to choir practice.

Looks like everyone is holding their own. Those pictures from Kentucky were scary. I can't even imagine being stuck in a car for 15 hrs.

Take care.

Marshmallow fluff with peanut butter goes good too Mel. It is cold tonight going to 6 or lower tonight. Hate this cold weather. Be glad when spring starts. At least, in the summer a wind is a blessing, but in the winter it makes you too cold. Mother Nature was not good to a lot of people this winter. Look at the jam up in Kentucky. Those poor people.

Frances, I never pictured him like that. Well, still cold here. I made the turkey this morning and was upset. It was 3 hours for 6 lb. as I started at 8 am. When I looked at ll am it was not done. I put my hand in the oven and the heat was very low. I set it at 325 but it didnt cook. It should have in 3 hours for that little. So I jacked it up to 330 and it took another two hours to cook. Once I get my service contract on the stove I will call them on it. When I cook fish tomorrow, will put at temp in there to check what temp is. Maybe the computer is off. Anyway, only a little left and in freezer for him for Sunday, as Friday is fish and Sat pot roast. Tomorrow have to wash clothes. Next week they say we are going to 50 degrees and the 40 range so hope to get my hair cut. Dh took the dog out and fell in the driveway with the black ice. He said he was ok. So the day was not a good one. Glad it is over.

Only 1 of my 3 choices won last night. Bummer. First time to attend a meeting. Last night was all about patting themselves on the back for what they think is a good job. But, the party afterwards was fun.

Vahina, that is a lot of snow for Kentucky. It would be nice if it melted slowly and you had not flooding.

Mattie, that is nice you are pampering your DH. Sounds like a healthy meal.

Lee, Love the graphics. What did you use it on if you own the copyright? I stopped going to bible study as they held it in a small room and the noise was too loud and I could not hear half that was being said. I do read my bible everyday.

Doris, sounds like you have your group spoiled with all you great desserts. They all sound wonderful.

Maureen, you will have to show us the "Magic Cake Scarf" when you have it finished.

Mickey, the afghan sounds like a nice project for a snowy day. How much snow do you have now?

Frances, are you taking the children out to play in the snow? I know the baby is too young.

Time to close as I am off the Tax man. Hope I do not get hit too hard this year. My DD always telling me how much they get back. I tell them, thanks but I am paying some of that as I have to pay taxes. Nothing is free.

I shoveled about 6 inches of snow off my porch at 10:45 last night. Had about the same amount again this morning. Total at NWS was 11.9 so very close to what I had. It is to be -3 tonight which will be the lowest every recorded in March. Starts to warm a little on Saturday and the middle of next week will bring 50s -- then we have to worry about flooding. Many small rivers south of us are already flooding and I am sure the Ohio will also when all the snow northeast of us begins to melt.

Good afternoon all.

We had Bible Study today and the Minister had us all change seats so as to sit with others and get out of our comfort area. He didn't call my name so stayed put as I need to look straight ahead at him. Neck is connected to the spine lol. It actually was fun as I've gotten to know a lot of our new members and find what they have to say interesting.

emoticon Happy Happy Birthday BECKY emoticon So glad you are a member of this group and so wish you a wonderful day!

Doris I think you did well for not taking notes! Your culinary descriptions make my mouth water. Wonderful that you already have one of your novels back. I look forward to reading it and the others.

Dot I too am glad you didn't have spinal Stenosis and hope the pills have their affect. (positive of course)Warning, one stays sleepy for a day after taking. Wishing you quick healing.

I so feel for those undergoing such a nasty winter. We here in FL have broken records both in highs and lows (temps)

Elsie, the images are darling. I will try to add one later.

Frances glad you took time to take it easy, even if the voice of authority didn't work. lol

Leona you are a spunky lady as are so many of our members here. Does the heart good
to see you grab life under such circumstances.

Mel, there's no stopping you, and wouldn't want to.

Marian, so good to see you. I am hoping they get to the bottom of your problem and fix it.

Vahina sorry you too got unexpected crummy weather.

Nas, thanks. Doing better as long as I behave. We are having a community yard sale Sat. and I am debating. Must start now if I am going to do it. But first I will check the weather for Sat.

I want to get rid of "stuff" but by the same token don't want to undo the healing. Decisions, decisions.

Mickey are you staying put today.

Glad you heard from our Reva, who will get two Birthdays this year. emoticon

Mattie Sue could you walk today. I am afraid I've fallen down on that.

And yes all I had corned beef and cabbage, carrots and irish soda bread and tiny potatoes.
gained 1/2 lb but have time to take it off. (hopefully).

Hugs to all. (now to try my gif I used for selling license plates) I own the copyright
.

Sorry so big. It is on the front of many cars her in FL as a Vanity License plate. Also aprons
the is Mom on a Mission and Santa Mom as well.

Hugs,
Lee

Dear friends, good morning....

I just read the posts since yesterday..

Dot, I am glad you saw the doctor and know that you are not suffering stenosis etc. and it sounds like she did a full examination. I so hope your pain grows less over time..I too have United Health care and am very pleased with it. I just ordered the three medications that I take on a regular basis and in only two days they appeared in my mail box. Great Service. I receive three months supplies on each order and the entire bill was under eight dollars. One medication is very pricey at the pharmacy but through this service it is so minor for me that I am extremely pleased.
Take good care of yourself..Rest a good deal and think positive thoughts. I hope the physical therapy helps.

Betty, never stop showing us you wonderful projects..It truly amazes me that you can come up with all the lovely things that you do..

Frances, I do not know how you manage those little ones and still have time for all you do..Amazing..

Mel, I so find joy in the art of baking..On Sunday I read from my novel and my poetry at the Burlington Artists League at their Sunday event for two hours. The president of the league graciously has a beautiful table of refreshments and I am adding to it with carrot cake squares, frosted with cream cheese and my special brownies topped with caramel icing..I will make all on Saturday as I have church on Sunday morning and my brunch with son and dil...
By the way, the girls' yesterday did like the apricot cake and they have voted now to have the meetings no where but here! I thought that was funny.

I have the critique group from our writers club here on March 25 as I always celebrate my birthday with them,(of course that is five days early) but Wednesday works for them. I plan to make the Blitz Almond Torte..A favorite of mine. It is European in origin and has two almond cake layers with pastry cream sandwiched in between and meringue on each layer, which is baked into the layers, then decorated with almond chips and powered sugar..Yumm! I wish I could give everyone of you a big slice!!!.

We had a good time yesterday and I believe we now are on track for the readings and book sales for March,April and into May. We will be doing a reading at our large local library but the date for that has not been set.

My new novel was given back to me yesterday and so now I can get busy correcting the edits..This will take some serious time..But first I must decide what passages I will be reading on this coming Sunday..Our weather is supposed to clear and be in the 50's by then . Today they are closing schools early as they expect icy roads after it rains and turns to sleet. Right now it just looks very gloomy and cold..

Lisa comes this afternoon to clean and that is a good time for me to stay at this computer or to decide on the reading passages..I always stay here in my office and out of her way..She does such a great job for me..

Mickey, I certainly do not envy your living with all of that snow and cold. It must be difficult some days to muster up the will to get out in it..I certainly feel for all that live in the north. I just gasp at the pictures that they show of Boston..

Lee, You are back ' doing'..I so hope all is well with you and your sons and dil now..I think of you so often.. Stay Strong ...as they say in Boston..

Well, I did not take notes, but I do wish everyone well and I say welcome to our newcomers.. emoticon
Take care, all...Love, Doris emoticon

Keep smiling!

Hi Making up for missing last night. emoticon Becky . Sorry I am late.
Mel Buckley"s is a cough syrup and is advertised as "Tastes awful but it works" and it really does. I just found they also have cough drops out now,at least new this year. Very Cold again today.but supposed to warm up by weekend. Time to go and get some deliveries made , if I can catch someone at home.
Last night I went to a class to find out how to use up yarn scraps and make a Magic Cake Scarf. Very Interesting, Pattern is on Ravelry ,cost of $5.00. I don't usually have the time to go to all the classes the yarn shop has going on but this was a fun one. Time to get some work done BBL. I hope. emoticon Maureen

Good morning everyone - guess I have a snow day! Got about 4" last night and it is still snowing. It looks like Christmas outside - all the trees are covered. The squirrels love it - the snow is so high - they can reach one of my hanging bird feeders.

We are taking a bus trip on March 14 to Boston for the Flower & Garden Show. I think I will have to wear boots as they are getting some of this snow too.

Betty - always like to see handmade projects. I am going to try to finish fixing my DGD's afghan that the puppy chewed. Got the 5 squares replaced by ripping out the yarn for the edging and using it to make new squares. But now I will have to get some other color yarn to make the 3 row edging. No way I can match the original - it is 11 years old.

Stay safe - looks like nasty weather everywhere.

Hello all,

Becky- emoticon and many more.

I love to see and hear about the projects people make and so keep posting about them. This is a creative and active group. Even with our aches and hurts, we keep going.

I may go into Minneapolis today but so far there are problems in traffic with the cold weather and the cars stalling. The weatherman said it will probably be our last below zero for the season in the Twin Cities. It should get to about 16* but looking for the 40s soon.

I saw on the Weather Channel so many problems. Drive carefully.

I will not respond to the messages today but I did read them.

Take care.

Good morning! Snow here, as well - big, wet flakes and very pretty, but everything is closed (of course). Going into the 50s and 60s over the weekend.

Barbara, I hope Buttercup enjoys her trip to the groomer.

Marian, good to see you. How are you doing?

Betty, please continue to post pictures of the things you make. Not only are they lovely to look at, but they inspire me to get to work!

Mickey, nice you were able to get out for lunch. I hope the weather holds today for you.

Dot, it sounds like you have mostly good news on your back. Hopefully, the therapy and pills will take care of the pain.

Mary Lou, dancing a jig is just the ticket! And it's nearly St. Paddy's Day. Perfect!

Camey, it just amused to me to picture a guy dressed as an Edwardian footman, holding a pipe wrench on a velvet pillow, or something! I think all plumbers are relatively rich (or ought to be, given what they charge). LOL

Marlene, glad you heard from your friend.

Doris, the cake sounds wonderful. Yum!

Lee, I'm following your orders - mostly from laziness. LOL. Did you have corned beef and cabbage?

I'm going to rush off, as the babes are wanting attention. Back later if there's time.

What a beautiful dog.

I am taking Buttercup to be groomed. She will be 10 in June. Never has been. Hope she will be a good girl. She sees me coming with the nail clippers and she starts crying. Its such a lot of work to groom her. Takes forever for her to dry. I cut her hair but it does not look like when they cut Simba.

Everyone seems to be getting snow except us. We had such a beautiful day yesterday it went up to 45. The snow was really melting. Now its cold again today. Want more warm weather.

Time to get to getting.

Good Morning everyone,,

We had a big snow last night so everything is closed this morning and I won't get to Curves...I hope this is the last snow...Guess I will pursue more crafting endeavors today.

Thanks for all your comments on the little dress. Don't mean to bore you all with my handmade stuff...I just love to make things. I can't wait to see her in it to see if it fits her OK.

Hi everyone. Took today off and if the forecast holds up, I may be off tomorrow too!

We got about 4" last night, plow guy came early this morning. Then it got warm - up to 45* so there was some street flooding, but we were ok. We were able to get out and meet with another couple for lunch. We've tried two or three times in the past year to get together and something always came up. So we finally got to catch up today.

Becky - Happy Birthday. Hope it was a good one.

Marian's breathing tests came out ok. But they are going to do some other lung tests.

This is it for tonight.

Vahina, my DGD posted a picture on FB - a picture of her window with the snow coming down.
She lives in Louisville. Hopefully this is the last snowfall for the year.

Mattie, pie sound good.

Dot, great that you can have PT to help with your problems. So when we turn 65, we can just suffer with out the meds. Not good news. At least it was not too expensive.

Happy Birthday Becky. Hope you are having a great day.

MaryLou, please post a picture of your dancing the jig!!

Camey, your rice cakes reminds me of them. I use to have them in the house all the time.
I would spread a little peanut butter on them. Will have to put them on my grocery list.

Marlene, it is nice you made contact with Reva. Tell her Hi.

Doris, will have to try that cake for my next card group. Sound good. Last night the hostess mixed a can of crushed pineapple into an angel food cake mix. It was in a square pan and served with whipped cream. It was good.

Lee, enjoy the dinner. We need to splurge once in awhile.

Nasfkab, sleep tight.

Frances, hope you were able to go for dinner.

Leona, 3-5 cups is a little too much for me. I would be swinging from the ceilings. I have two and then switch to water.

Betty, I love the dress. I can picture her in with a big pink bow in her hair.

Maureen, what is Buckley"s?

Mickey, I am sure it makes work very different without the internet. Strange how we get so dependent on it.

Time to get ready to go to our annual HOA meeting. They will be announcing the new board members. It has been a hot contest. Afterwards, I have been invited to a Stress Relief Party.
We will hopefully be celebrating the winners that I and some others voted for. The hostess did not want to call it a celebration party as it might not end that way.

It started snowing about 4:30 pm and the ground is already covered. Said we will have heavy snow until about 11-12 pm and then it will be gone. Still are saying up to 10 inches. Enough already.

Doctors visit went well. I don't have Spinal Stenosis or Sciatica I was so happy. Last night I took a pain pill and this morning 2 Aleve...PTL I was able to walk and do what she requested of me. She gave me a very though exam - even to checking lungs, chest, throat, etc. So what do I have. Doctor believes that the nerve that runs into the right butt is causing the trouble in the muscle ~ sent me for numerous xrays of my back, spine and legs. Gave me two prescriptions for a muscle relaxant and pain. Recommended Physical Therapy. Said, this would take six weeks to get better but maybe less with the PT. So will call and make an appointment tomorrow. After all that I was to tired to go to the PT dept on the sixth floor.

I have United Health Care PPO. The drug store called me and said they were refusing to pay the muscle relaxant prescription. I asked how much it was and it was $19.00's apparently this is not cover after you are 65 years. I went ahead and got it anyway. Somehow I figured I would begin to see changes this year. Took the two pills around 3pm this afternoon and now feeling very sleepy...guess I will not take and drive.

Bye, going to lay down and nap.
Hugs and Blessings,
Dot

I walked Lee but it was short so it is better than not at all . Making us a chefs salad for dinner with a side dish of brussel sprouts . My husband is eating so healthy it puts me to shame sometimes. I am a junk food eater . I can eat some things s no problem but truly like junk food so trying to eat what I make him for his diet.
It keeps looking like it may rain but so far not a drop. I need to get some of my stuff for my chefs salad cooked and cooled so will be back

Good wishes to both of you.

Cute dress, Betty. Evidently your family enjoys many hand-made goodies from you, as does Frances' family.

I do hope Marian is coming along nicely, and Dot, that your dr. visit will result in some answers and relief for you.

Much of our snow had melted, but got about an inch of new snow this morning. I'm starting to get a little tired of winter (just a little???) and will welcome spring. Maybe throw a party, bake a cake, and dance a little jig! emoticon LOL

Frances, while you can chuckle about the plumber, he is rich as the Queen paid him big bucks. LOL They travel to Spain, Pais and 3 world countries.

Leona, she was on a board for cholesterol and we got talking and soon exchanged emails.

I also met some friends on writing boards.

Well, better today as had rice yesterday and today and went grocery shopping. Came home with fresh 6 lb. turkey to make tomorrow. Dh loves turkey and also a pot roast I have been yearing for. No I am not preg. LOL Will cook it Sat. Lost another .2 and now have only l.6 to get into those jeans, but still have to hem them as I lost inches, from old age.

Made a salad for dh and had some predue chicken cuts and left over rice for me and two cookies I made the other day. I separate them into his and mine as he is always eating them and I am left with none. I also bought 3 packages of rice cakes same here as he is always hungry and when I look they are gone. But, he did lose a lb. he said, so I am trying to give him stuff with less calories. We are trying together. He leaves it up to me to do his plate for him, so I fill it with veggies and a little meat. Then he has his apple and tea.

Supper is a sandwich and ice cream for him, with a banana and rice cakes or thin bagel with butter spray and a banana for me.

I just hope I can keep going down.

I heard from Reva and she said she would take birthday wishes any day. I sure do miss her we go way back.

I am on my laptop and seems it is so slow so I am going to shut it down and go back to my desk top. This is a Windows 8 but they both are on the same browser and off the same router.

Remember you can still blog, I very seldom blog but it is a good place to tell everyone things you want to share.

Hello

Good to see so many posting early and I am wishing a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
to Becky. .Well, dear the weather is perfect for celebrating as it may hit 70 just for you..Do enjoy your special day.!

We are to be that warm for just today and plunge into the 30's with very cold winds tomorrow..Isn't this a 'crazy year' for the strange weather contrasts??

Mel, yes in answer..It is an apricot upside down cake and believe me, after I took it from the oven and let it rest for five minutes I placed the metal silver tray on it and actually said a little prayer that I would have the strength to flip it over. (I bake it in an very large iron skillet which was my mother-in-law's and given to me over thirty-five years ago) It is so heavy alone that I have trouble lifting it..But ''Wala"..I gathered my strength and turned it over and when I lifted it off , the cake with Apricots and walnuts was perfect..sigh... Is perfect actually and I will serve whipped cream alongside..The girls are due at one and so I must change clothes and eat a small lunch before they arrive.

The lecture was interesting It was given by a playwright. He has written three plays that have been acted here in NC to many audiences..and his take on writing and producing them was very enjoyable .All of our member were so happy to get out of their homes yesterday, the room was filled with good will..I too was pleased to get out for the day. It did rain a bit in the afternoon but that only further melted the snow piles seen here still.

Well, off to get ready to greet my Story Sisters...
Love to all ..Glad to see Mani back and feeling better....Love, Doris emoticon

Keep smiling!

Good morning all:

emoticon emoticon HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO BECKY, Hope it is fantastic.
emoticon emoticon

NAS you do well keeping up. Not to worry.

Mani (Granjerry) said hello to us above the posts. So nice to see you Mani. That's the spirit we've come to know and love.

What a precious dress Betty. Love it and thanks for sharing.

Marlene, Frances said it well "you didn't forget a friend".

I do hope Dot is making out well with her Dr.

Mickey thanks for letting us know about Marian. I hope the results of the tests at the Pulmonolgist turn out well for her.

Leona, thanks for the Review. Wonderful story of love and learning.
Thanks also for the Coffee news. I think I'll stick to my one a day decaf so the heart
won't go into overdrive. Let us know when you find out more about it as I am sure you will. You are so up to date on things. Thank you!

Mattie Sue I hope you get your walk in today. (bet you already have)

Frances sounds like your day is all planned. (why am I not surprised) emoticon Watch that wrist and don't overuse. That's an order.

Ei glad you are able to try to get back into action. Don't you just hate it when you get going so well then something happens to stop you in your tracks

Maureen I hope you were able to do your deliveries. I have spinal stenosis which lead to sciatica often. Usually I can keep ahead of pain with ice and moist heat. This time I was foolish and thought I could help out at church one more day. lol Thank you. I think poor Dot is doing worse than I and hope it is nothing serious.

Elsie hope the weather allows the reunion to go well.Cute pictures!

Vahina sorry about your coming bad weather and hope it doesn't last.

New England also sure has a lot (right Mickey) and I know from experience one doesn't get used to it or prefers not to. Thanks for the update on Marian.

Mel I am so glad your DD's old Dr will take her Ins. Yippeee. Sometimes things go right.

Carole Jean so glad you put off hemming and mending and I am not alone. Mending tape is great (if I do it right)

Well this is my book for the week. Have a church dinner tonight. Sure to be fattening as St Pat's day early. Sodium. However I will enjoy then hope to compensate til Monday at least.

Hugs all,
Lee

Good morning! As with many of you, we're having mild Spring today, with Winter returning (briefly) tomorrow. I'm planning to get my walk in this afternoon when I do a library run and a couple of small errands.

Betty, that is just the CUTEST little dress! Georgia will love it.

Marlene, what matters most is that you didn't forget a friend! It's always nice to get good wishes whatever day it is.

Maureen, I hope the roads stay clear until you can get your orders delivered.

Leona, that was a very nice book review - and it sounds like a wonderful book. Good news on the cancer, too! Yay!

Vahina, stay in and stay warm! It'll all be gone soon.

Mickey, thanks for letting us know about Marian. I'm sure it's scary, but hopefully all will be well quickly.

Marian, if you're peeking in - sending you prayers and hugs and good wishes!

Mattie, enjoy your walk if you get to go.

Camey, I don't know why it tickled me that your friend's husband was a plumber for the queen - someone has to do it - but I've been chuckling every time I think of it.

Mel, nice quote (I would never have ascribed it to Irving). Good news for your daughter too!

Dot, as you might imagine, I recite a LOT of nursery rhymes. I think they're easier to remember because of the rhythm.

Elsie, Wow! That will be some reunion - how exciting!!

Lee, glad you're getting better - and were able to go out and have your feet attended.

Carol, maybe we should form a 3 A.M. chat group!

Doris, I hope the lecture went well.

Barbara, any chance the band performance will be aired nationally, so we can all see your grandson?

Ei, glad you're feeling well enough to get back to your exercise routine. I know you look forward to that.

Becky, HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! (I hope I have the right day?!) Wishing you a wonderful day and a great year ahead. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Time to fix Kilean's breakfast and get Magdalena settled for her play time. I'm going to try to extend my knitting time today and get my wrist back to normal. Enough malingering! This afternoon I'll get my walk and pick up the new Anne Tyler book (yippee). Depending on the weather, I might go out for dinner. Will see.

Hello all,

Betty -How cute. emoticon

Marlene- Do not worry about the list. We do appeciate the work you do. emoticon

Maureen- Drive carefully. I used to use Avon all the time because I had an Avon Lady.

Dr. Siegel was just on FOX taliking about the new coffee study. Having 3-5 cups of cooffe a day can help the brain. They think it is the caffeine. BUT talk to your doctor first. He talked about calcium buildup and it may help prevent this. Another study on coffee so take it or leave it.

It is below zero again so I will stay home.

Have a good day.

Thanks, Helen. I guess Reva will know we miss her even if it is not her birthday. I took the other Reva off the birthday list so maybe I won't make the same mistake twice. But you never know I might. Sorry everyone. I guess it is a senior moment??

Hi All Just a quick note tonight as have been busy all day with my latest Avon order. Ready to start deliveries in the morning if the roads are clear. 3 to 5 inches of snow started about noon and is still falling when I looked out a bit ago. Fighting with a little bit of a cold in my head but taking Buckley's so it won't last long!! Leona. read the reviews and will see if the book is available at our local library. Sounds very interesting. Frances , glad you enjoyed your evening with the knitting group even if you had to rest your arm. Lee hope you find out what is wrong soon.with your hip and leg. Prayers for all with aches on order as usual. Good Night and God Bless. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon Maureen

Mel- thank you so much. Some books are hard to read but are so heart warming. I hope you like it.
Special need children are special. I think that is why I like our weatherman so much as he raises money for Special Olympics by jumping into frozen lakes. Most of the people now wear costumes.

Camey- how did you meet your friend from England?

Tonight supposed to get below zero again and them may in the 40s in a few days.
We got about 4 inches but it was light so I was able to even sweep off some of the steps and sidewalk. I did do it in stages so it did not pile too high. Our neighbor is not home all the time but he does take care of me.

The router is overheating so I now have it upside down and will unplug it tonight.

Do drive careful if in snow area. There were hundreds of crashes and off the road in Minnesota today. No one was killed so that is wonderful news.
One of my sons said people cannot drive and I said that helps your brother keep a job. He does the estimating for damaged cars.

Have a good night and take care.

It was over 60 today and raining thru tonight. Tomorrow it starts to snow and we are expecting 6 to 12 inches. That would be a record for March here and our total would be a record for any year if we hit the top of that amount. By Saturday and thru Tuesday we are going to the 50s so hopefully it will melt rapidly. The rain today cleared up what was left from two weeks ago. I am sure wishing mother nature would read the calendar. I can't believe we run up the clocks with snow on the ground.

Hi everyone, the snow is coming down again, then it is to turn to sleet and then rain. The fun part of living in New England.

Dot - hope you get some answers about your hip and leg along with some relief.

Leona - good news about the cancer. Last week my wireless printer wouldn't hook into my computer. But I still had Internet, so I went out on the web and one suggestion was to restart the router. Happily it did work.

We didn't have any internet at work today, boss didn't think things were not dry enough to try to start the servers. So I came home early today.

I have heard from Marian, her physician wants her to see a lung specialist.

This is it for now.
Take care.

Mel maybe not but I will take it. LOL Today made flounder and rice, which I figured would help the situation. It can catch you of guard if you are not careful. We are getting the snow tonight and tomorrow morning icy. I am so glad I do not have to go to work anymore. The afternoon is suppose to be 40 so hoping it is and I can go shopping with dh as I need a lot of stuff and too much for him to do alone.

I have been watching the English Patient and really not caring for it that much so far. They said it was good, so waiting for that part to start. I also like to watch the Steve Harvey show as he talks about love and is so funny. I never knew was homeless before.

I have a friend I write to in Telford Shropeshire, England. She is near Iron bridge. We met at a board and have been writing for years. We used to send xmas and birthday gifts but the postage got too expensive so we stopped. We had planned to meet. I was suppose to go there for a visit with them and dh but it never happened as things at home prevented it. Then she was coming here with her dh and that seemed to get cancelled, so we just send pictures and talk everyday. It would have been nice to have a vacation with them as they would have shown us around. Her husband used to do the plumbing for the Queen.

Today got my towels and wash done and yesterday bed changed and sheets, but not much of anything else. Been reading Curtain call of Friends, 600 pages and it has so many characters I get comfused trying to remember who goes with who. LOL It is good but I hate books with a lot going on, with so many characters.

Leona, what a wonderful review. I am putting Bella's Gift on my reading list. I have three special needs grandchildren. Thanks for sharing this book with us.

I believe our Reva's birthday is in Oct as I remember it is the same month as mine. Revasean does post her weight on Marlene's spread sheet.

I cannot remember my old phone numbers. I have a hard time remembering my cell phone number. Two many numbers dancing around in this old brain.

Dot, hope they find out what is causing your problems with your hip and leg.

Leona, I know it is good to be busy, but there are some days, I want to crawl into a hole and just stay there. And I do it, if the feeling is strong. I have this on my refrigerator by Washington Irving:
"There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. The are messengers of overwhelming grief ......AND unspeakable love."

Happy Birthday Nora. I am sure your family is celebrating with you. ENJOY the day!
emoticon

Elsie, may this be your lucky day at the Casinos.

Camey, that is not a good way to lose weight.

Marlene, yes Reva is a very special lady. I enjoyed her messages when she posted with us.

Lee, that is good news for your back.

Carol Jean, always nice to have a project just hanging there waiting for us.

Doris, that was wonderful of you to give your DH's painting to your DGC. I am sure it gives them pleasure. The cake sounds really good. Is is like a pineapple upside cake, but using fresh apricots?

Barbara, hopefully one of your family members recorded the TV show and you can watch it later.

Time to close as I am expecting a Notary to come to my house soon. It is nice he is coming here and I do not have to drive to their office.
BTW. I spent yesterday taking my DD back to her old Dr. He will take her new insurance and so she is happy. He also referred her to a new Pain Management office. So hoping they can help her.

I finally wrote my review on Bella's GIft by the Santorums.

Review of Bella's Gift by Rick and Karen Santorum.

From:

http://www.bellasgiftbook.com/

On May 13, 2008, the Santorum family welcomed their eighth child into the world. Isabella Maria was born with a rare genetic condition called Trisomy 18, or Edward's Syndrome. Only 10 percent of children with Trisomy 18 are born alive, and 90 percent of those children do not make it to their first birthday. Faced with these bleak statistics, doctors told the family to prepare for Bella's death. Instead, they chose to celebrate her life.
Over the next six miraculous years, the Santorum family adjusted to life with a special needs girl—and watched her transform the lives of everyone around her. In many days of sickness and joy, she became an inspiration to her community and, ultimately, to the nation. Bella’s Gift details the peaks and valleys, the joys and sufferings, and the incredible value of life with a special needs child. In a world that often measures worth according to usefulness, Bella’s story is a reminder that our real value lies in our capacity to love.

AUTHORS
Karen Santorum

Life takes sudden turns. The horizon brings unexpected storms. The road we walk is prone to go from smooth to rocky in a matter of steps. No one is spared the difficult path. Rick and Karen Santorum weren't. The birth of their daughter Bella was a birth into a life they never asked to enter. Their faith was tested, their futures were rerouted. And, as a result of it all, they are different people. You know the Santorums as public figures in the halls of Congress and on the trails of a presidential campaign. You are about to know them as parents of a special girl. Their struggles, fears, faith, and fortitude -- it's all in these pages. I urge you to read this book. Life takes sudden turns for all of us. And we need wisdom from a family who has kept their balance and stayed on the road.

We love the Santorum family and the way they love children like God loves children. Rick championed the bill to end partial birth abortion in America. The Santorum family has tirelessly fought to return our nation back to the Christian values our country was founded upon. Bella's Gift will inspire families and marriages to draw close to God through the joys and the hard times of life.

I have gotten to know Rick, Karen, and their family really, really well over the years. This book is a love story from two parents who walk the walk as husband and wife, father and mother. In typical Santorum style, they pull no punches, but they will also pull at your heart and your soul.

Bella’s father was a Fox News Contributor so I have known about this little child since the day she was born. She is nothing short of amazing—she has beaten all odds! This book is a touching love story about how this very challenged child enriched her family . . . and anyone who meets her. You will be enriched—and inspired—by reading her story.

One of the joys of being alive is to see love in action and the indelible mark it leaves on the world. Karen and Rick Santorum have written the kind of extraordinary book about their daughter with special needs that moves the heart and stays in the memory.

Bella Santorum's story is one that all medical professionals should read and profit from. Her and her family's struggle, besides being inspiring, is also medically enlightening. Too many members of her medical team assumed that her situation was hopeless. This was not so much from a lack of caring as it was a lack of knowing. A detailed, careful reading of the medical literature on children with Trisomy 18 reveals that these children do not have the dismal outcomes that some so-called experts claim. In rare disorders like Bella's, there really are no experts. The ideal professional will yearn to become the expert, seek the truth, know the facts, and assess the entire situation. He or she needs to know in detail all about the child, the medical condition, and the family situation. Only then is one able to really offer good care. Unfortunately, the tendency to 'write off' children like Bella is all too common in modern American medicine with its bottom line, dollars and cents, mentality. Hopefully this book will help to change some of that.

Bella’s Gift is a must read. I've had the privilege of enjoying family dinners at the Santorum’s home with the entire family, including Bella. I've witnessed the love that she has for her family and they for her. Bella’s story reminds us that love requires sacrifice, an idea that is becoming increasingly lost in our selfish society. Read it. You’ll be moved, inspired, and encouraged by the story of this little girl and her heroic family

The radiant truth about special-needs children, such as the Santorums’ Bella, is that they give to those around them something that we all need. This gift, that suffuses every page of this marvelous book, is the reminder that every life is sanctified by the capacity to receive and respond to love.

Leona's Review:

First, no matter what your political views are, this will touch the hearts of all. A moving book about a little girl that has stolen the hearts of those who meet her and the ones who have seen her on TV or read her story.
I knew that little Bella had this disease as she was in the news when her father was running for president. He quit the race for his family.
I lost my husband of almost 57 years of marriage in January and maybe this is one reason this book touched me so deeply. Life is precious at any stage of life, before and after birth.
The descriptions of Bella giggling and her smile was visual. The reader follows the struggle and tears of the family as well as the family fun times. The Santorum have much faith in God even with the trials they have with a child who needs constant care.
Every other chapter is written by the parents of Bella. When reading, you want to reach out and give them a hug. Each chapter begins with the word LOVE.
There are pictures in the book which add to the feelings of the book.
The other children play an important part in the lives of their parents, each other and Bella.
I saw this book offered to read and review on booklookbloggers. I almost did not read it because of my stress at this time but I am so glad I did. I really made the decision after I saw the Santorums and Bella on FOX more than once. I had to read a chapter of at a time but that Is OK. It is a good family read.
This would make a wonderful gift for parents who have a special need child.
I received a complimentary copy of Bella's Gift to read and review. The opinions are my own.

Hope to disappoint those who still think today is "our" Reva's birthday! It is not!!! REVA500 is no longer even a member of Spark. Try getting to her page. Spark informs you there is no one by that name.

But if our REVA is out there, we sure would love to hear from her!

Hello Everyone,

Have read all the posts and will DITTO Frances and Leona who do such a wonderful job of staying up with everyone. Incidentally so do Mel and Lee. I have to take so many notes that it has become to time consuming for me. I am also not a fast typist.

I am getting a bang out of the remembered old phone numbers. How many of you can remember every nursery rhyme you ever learned as a child? Taught my GC and now my GGC.

Have an appointment 8:45 tomorrow at the doctors. Do have to find out what is going on with my right hip and leg. It is not getting better...which is what I have been hoping for. I was lucky to get in to see her so fast she had a cancellation.

Leona my heart goes out to you and all those of you that have lost your DH. Traveling the path alone is not easy but I can testify that somehow you do keep going. You all are doing wonderful well...keeping busy is one of the answers or was for me. Back then I worked and did all the overtime they gave me. If you know the Lord keep walking with him that was another one of my answers. He has never left me or forsaken me through all these years.

God Bless every one of you...we have a great team.

emoticon emoticon HAPPY BIRTHDAY REVA AND NORA emoticon emoticon hope you both enjoy your special day. God Bless you both!

Hugs and Blessings to all,
Dot

Nora and Reva

I learned that images can be put in here this morning and have been having fun doing it ever since.

All of our snow is gone thanks to overnight and all morning misty rain. Temp is supposed to get into the 50's today then drop back into the 20's tomorrow with wintry mix over night.

Have another joy to add to our week end. Andy, my oldest grandchild who was given up for adoption, is arriving here this week end. We haven't seen him since 1995. Maria, his mom, is very excited. This will be 2 of the 4 boys back in our life.

Getting ready to go to the produce store that reopened Monday. It is down in Oklahoma so will be visiting some of the casinos also.....lol

Take care....Elsie

God's gift to you: a clean slate every day: your gift to God: what you put on that slate....
