Never saw my mother baking. She was in a wheel chair all my life with arthritis. BUT she would sit there and instruct my how to bake.

Been cold here for the last couple of days.

Been busy with the three dogs. The little old one is quite a care. I will be so glad when my DD comes home.

My other DD just bought a beautiful new car. It does everything but talk. Amazing. I never could handle a car like that I can't even see over the dash. Its a mercedes .

Been busy doing yard work. Still have 7 more bags of mulch to put put around flowers.

I am tired.

Hello all,

Betty- What a nice post. emoticon

Mickey- I had the same thing happen with the Windows 10 emoticon and I also declined.

Spelling Bee in Washington for the kids. I love to watch them. emoticon

Francis- I live about a little over an hour south of St. Cloud.

Going through some old papers, I found the address of my step-father's nephew in California. We used to communicate and lost touch. I checked the white pages and it shows he is still at the same address so I am hoping to connect again. I mailed him a letter instead of a phone call.

I have found relatives in Italy and the United States on Facebook. I search for names.

There is a Genealogy Team on Spark.

I slept until 6:30 AM so feel better. Those 5 AM wakes are hard on the body.

Best to those who need it. emoticon

Take care,
Leona emoticon

Good morning! It seems the rain blew out to sea and we have good weather in store for the foreseeable future - yay! It's heading into the 80s today, so we'll be outdoors during the morning hours and get in a good walk.

Tired today, as I stayed at the computer a little too long last night, working on the Minnesota genealogy (now in Beltrami County, Leona). I began work on another son, who - like the rest of his family - had 13 children, most of whom also had large families. Locating obituaries and photographs - in addition to the records on ancestry.com - took time, but I didn't want to quit in the middle of the family grouping. So far, nearly another 100 people added to the line - and there are several more siblings to work on.

I had a small surprise yesterday. Our local toy store held a "drawing" on fb for people who commented on or shared their page - and I won a $20 gift certificate. We'll have no problem using that. LOL.

My mother did not teach me to cook, although I picked up some things by watching, and after I left home I did ask for a few recipes. As someone else said about their mother, mine did not use exact measures: "a pinch" of this, "a dash" of that, "enough to make the dough pliable but not too dense" were the sorts of directions I got. She was a terrific pie baker and I did learn that - and passed it on to all 3 of my children. Also picked up tips on canning, preserving, and making jams and jellies.

Have to cut this short (???) as the kidlets want to go out, so I'll try to pop in again later.

Good Morning everyone,

Didn't realize that I didn't get here yesterday...Out early to get the shot in my back and all went well. I can get around most of the time without the cane.. I go see the ortho doc today and see what he says...I would like to go to the holistic chiropractor that my kids go to...He is so good. But we shall see.

I was up late last night watching the finale of the Voice. The gal who won is really good...but they all were so good.

My mom and grandma especially loved to bake...When grandma lived with us she was always making yeast rolls that made the whole house smell delicious...She also made good doughnuts. MY mom baked cakes and pies...She always made an angel food cake from scratch and would beat up all those egg whites...soo good ...She made a lemon blitz torte that is so good. Haven't made that in years.

My weight stays in the same slot...goes up and down a bit, so I don't post it on the chart.

I got the sweetest video of 2 1/2 year old Georgia singing the star spangled banner. It is posted on my FB page...I gave her a book about the national anthem and she learned to sing it from the book and the help of her mom and Gran...

Smiles to you all...Betty :)

Just a quick check to catch up. Slept badly last night and had a nap with watching the Finale of Dancing with the Stars. Nyle and Peta won the mirror ball. DH was switching between it and The Voice. Not sure who won on it as I hardly ever watch it. When I get up in the mornings I always turn on the radio for company not the TV.
Did not really spend much time growing up in the kitchen with Mom to learn cooking. By the time I hit High school had a 10 mile ride home on a bus and meals were usually ready. Did get to wash lots of dishes or dry them as my DS and I took turns at that job. Hope Betty got her shot today as I missed her post early this morning. Very unusual.!!.
Must check to see it my invoices are ready to print for my current order in the morning.
Marlene hope you get the second coat on the deck soon before more rain . Time to say Good Night and God Bless,. Sweet Dreams emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon Maureen

Hi everyone,

I really enjoyed reading about your baking with your mothers. emoticon

I am sorry for all of the losses. I said a Prayer for all of you.

Hope everyone is feeling OK.

I do like to watch TV. I put the TV on as soon as I wake up. It keeps me Company.

I like the cable TV Political shows, I like the Hallmark Channel for romantic movies. My weakness is reality shows. I must confess I like The Real House Wives Shows. LOL

But I will also get into a good Historical series like Turn about the American Revolution.

on the question of the day about baking:

. My mother baked, and I remember fighting with my brother over who would lick the spoons and bowl from a cake she was making. She would say, "you get the spoon or you get the bowl, so we would take turns. My Mother made her cakes from scratch. she made cup cakes and I remember one cupcake that she cut and put pudding in the middle. emoticon When she got older, she would use a cake mix but she would always add something to it, like pudding or applesauce.

Hi everyone-rainy day but it was that 'soft' rain, no downpours. It was great for all the flowers my DH planted yesterday.

Windows 10 hijacked my computer yesterday. I was in the middle of a email and Windows 10 started to download. It took 20 min. To finish and then asked if I agreed for the license. I declined and then it had to retrieve Windows 7 which took another 25 min.

My mom was a great cook and an even better baker. She didn't use recipes and didn't really teach me how to cook, I learned by watching her. But some of her specialties, I got because I wrote things down as I watched her make them. But by the I was 16 she was too weak with her MS to cook for company, so I took over and have been cooking ever since!

Frances-I don't think my grands are looking for singing careers but I have a feeling my grandson may sing at weddings, etc, as my DH did for years. My grandson is looking at schools for engineering but which also have good music groups like the Univ. of Michigan.

MaryLou-will send good vibes your way for your stress test and echocardiogram.

This is it for tonight.

Dot- I also hate when I wake up and cannot sleep in the middle of the night. emoticon

I was boarded out as a child after my parents were divorced and lived with a wonderful grandmother like person. My mother and step-father married when I was about 9 years old. My mother always worked so we never had time to be able to cook a lot together. Years later, we were able to do so. I have some of her recipes but she was a cook by touch and taste and not a lot of recipes. I make the same potato salad without the sweet relish, which they like in Texas. My Minnesota husband did not like it so I cut out the relish. One time, Daddy asked where was the relish when he had my potato salad. I have collected family recipes and copied for each of our 5 kids and have them in binders with the names of the person who wrote the recipe on the recipe. I want to copy a photo of each of the ones who made the recipe and add to the binder. emoticon

Have a good night.

Hi all:

I am hoping I don't have too many problems with 10 and it learns to love me.

Frances thanks for the advice re: VC Agent. I am sure anyone would be drooping by now. Did the coffee help? Like "you gotta do what you gotta do".

Yes, Camey, I cooked and learned from my mother when I was very young and it helped as I did a lot of cooking in my teens when she was ill. Mom was a plain southern cook. Loved it.
Don't do a lot of that now. Then my stepmom was a gourmet cook and I learned a lot from her. Every time we ate there, I asked for her recipes. Later on when I was there she invited the neighbors from across the street for dinner. I cooked. (she had alz and asked if I would cook)
At the table she said absolutely delicious, where did you get that one. I would say, you Evelyn. She would light up with a big smile. (she really had forgotten).

Mel I do think you must be a calming influence on your family. Especially your grands with special problems that are no fault of their own or anyone else for that matter. I've been hearing both sides about 10. some say great others not so much. I changed as I feel once this takes on a life of it's own Microsoft will dump support for Windows 7 and apps for it. How nice of you and your brother to set up a trust fund for the Hospital.

Eileen no matter how you feel you seem glued to your exercise and that is a good thing for sure.

Nas did you get your Visa. I sure hope so. How long does it take?

Marlene, so nice that your niece wants to help you. Wish the rain would stop there for you.

Mary Lou re your computer, it probably needs a good cleaning out. Mine did and I've only had it 3 years. As others have said good luck with your Stress test. I am sure the treadmill is impossible for you. I can't do it any more and I know you hurt more, tho you never complain.

Maureen by the time you get on what can I say but hope your day was a good one and good night and sleep well. emoticon

Glad you liked the Marie's coleslaw dressing Dot. Obviously I do too.

Hugs all,
Lee

Awoke to thunder an lightning this morning at 4 am so a bit tired. I don't like thunder and lightning in the day time, and frightens me when in bed at night. I always think about having to run out of the house. The day is damp and no sun and today got a late start. Tried to do a little more sleeping but my bones were hurting. Managed to get the laundry and towels done and make soup. My exercise is done.

Tomorrow going to lunch with my nephew. He has stared as extra in movies and is in some commercials. He wants to go to La to get into the movies. He has an agent. I never know what he is going to look like as last time he had a beard and long hair for the series mountain men, which he had a small part in.

My computer is going off and then back on. My friend did all he can and can't find the problem. Today, I saw on search, when I opened up, used cars. Now, I was not looking for used cars as we have our car 6 years old, a Lincoln, small one, we got new years ago. So who was in my machine. My husband wasn't looking. Usually, I have to show him how to do stuff and he forgets. I ran the Norton and it picked up l6 spywares and cleared them. So just can't figure out this machine. I need to get to the store for some CDRW disc to put my work on so I will not lose my MW projects.

A man didn't like his wife's cat so he took the cat, when she went to work, to another town.
When, he got back home the cat was there ahead of him. The next day he took the cat to the mountains, he went to different trails so the cat would not find its' way home. After he left the cat he got in his car and was lost. He called his wife and asked if the cat was there. When she said the cat was sleeping, he said to wake her up and ask her how he can find his way home.

Two women were walking and one turned to the other and said, "At my age I don't mind a little memory loss. I keep forgetting I am over 60.

The photographer was positioning my husband and I for our wedding photo. When he asked have you ever modeled before I turned red and said I didn.t. He turned to me and said he didn't mean me, but my husband.

My nephew does have a job that starts on June 1st. He will be working at a grain elevator like he did last summer. He knew about his job before he got sick. They called him. I just want him to come and paint the deck but he is afraid it will rain again and wash it off before it gets dry.

My DD is coming this afternoon, she always helps me with things that I put off. I can do most of everything but it is nice to have something for her to do.

Leona, Johann Mohs arrived from Germany with several sons (I think 6) and they settled all around the mid-west. In 1868, one son, Nicholaus Mohs married a Maria Rosa Kolb in Ohio and she is my 1st cousin, 2x removed - they settled in Stearns County and had 12 children, most of whom settled around the area: St. Cloud, St. Martin, Luxemburg, St Wendelin, Spring Hill, Pope, etc. So far, I've got 178 direct descendants for them - with several branches not even worked yet!! emoticon

Good Morning all,

Getting a late start this morning. Went to bed at 11:00 and went right to sleep, was wide awake at 2:00am and stayed that way until 4:00 when I went back to sleep. Thank goodness this doesn't happen often. I read usually it will help me get sleepy but not last night.

Mary Lou good to see your post. Hope all your tests go well. Sorry about your sisters pet...it is so sad when they have to be put down. One of the many reasons I don't have pets anymore.

Time to get my second cup of coffee and some breakfast...need to get some energy going.
I Ditto Leona's post she covered everyone beautifully. Must say that I am not addicted to TV programming. I do enjoy Doc Martin and the lineup on Tuesday Evenings on PBS ~ but if I miss them it is no big deal. Always turn on the TV to catch the news first thing in the morning. I am enjoying my new TV and DVD. The picture is wonderful, full screen and just great...

Maybe I will BBL, hope you all have a wonderful day.
All the best,
Dot

Hello all,

Lots of messages.

Janice- My daughter is also hooked on the Bachelorette and we watched some of it last night. She said it is funny. Different for me.

My son-in-law is in Iowa for a couple of days and so I set the extra latch for the back door. Even with the dogs, I felt we should have it. Sad, they are on the lookout for a man who raped a little 9 year old in her bedroom and when her father heard her scream, he ran out the door. LOCK the doors, even in the daytime.

Helen- I have heard this about husbands and wives and how close they were to each other. My uncle was chopping down a tree in Colorado and died. My aunt drove down the mountain to get help and a cousin of mine brought my grandmother to him; she had a heart attack and died. This was her first born. We had a double funeral and it was hard.
I am sorry for your loss.

Camey- So sad also about your friends. It is hard to get older and lose loved ones.

TSA is a mess. Glad they finally fired the top guy.

Windows 10 downloaded yesterday and I am not sure why. When it asked it I agreeded, I clicked declined.

Irish Ei- I am sorry the death of you parents were so close. emoticon

Mickey- I could see the 12 year old and shoes. emoticon

Frances- I am glad you are getting information from the Minnesota Historical Society.

Dot- Nice your friend is getting better.

Mary Lou- Best to you on your stress test.

Marlene- I hope your nephew can get a job and gets well soon.

Helen- I have studied a little of Queen Victoria and Albert.

Mel- A trust for the hospital. What a nice idea.

FOX & Friends had a guest who went to a college in Oregon and asked for money to support Hamas so they could blow up schools and cafes. One student said he had been studying this for about a year and donated money for the "cause". 60% of those asked would support Hamas. Most gave $10.00 but one gave $27.00 because she supported Bernie. Bernie Sanders is Jewish and Israel was a place they said would be attacked. What is wrong with our colleges? Do these kids not understand? The one doing this was Jewish and he said he felt "sadness". emoticon

Best to those who need emoticon and emoticon

I need to get busy and do something.

Take care,
Leona emoticon

Yikes! This is my early morning - 6:00 AM - and BOTH children got up as soon as I came in. I tried to talk Kilean into resting a bit longer, but he wanted to get up. Mag-Pie, of course, always does what she wants - LOL. So - I made my coffee extra-strong, gave a nod to the morning sun, and braced myself for the day ahead. Then I turned on Sprout TV. emoticon Some days you just gotta do what you gotta do.

Janice, you seem to have found a number of programs you enjoy. I usually have 2 or 3 programs a week that I enjoy. Right now, I'm watching "Genealogy Roadshow" on PBS, Tuesday nights, and "Food Network Star" on Sundays. Some days I watch a half-hour of the evening news.

Mary Lou, good luck with your tests.

Mel, there are a number of European records available on the pilgrims that I think you can find at the library - maybe inter-library loan. If I remember correctly, they left England and went to the Netherlands before coming to America - so there are records in both countries. There were news articles regarding their activities. Some were arrested. I can't recall all the details, but I do remember being surprised at how much documentation actually exists.

Dot, how nice that Barbara is doing so much better. Scary, but maybe it was just what was needed to get her to move in with family. Do send me whatever you have on your gg-grandfather. I can't promise anything, but I'm always happy to look.

Mickey, your grands are so talented - you must be very proud. Are they planning on singing careers?

Lee, I got Windows 10 fairly early on and all the dire warnings were nonsense. You'll find a few visual differences - layout and such - but overall the changes are in performance and not that noticeable. Just remember to shut off VCAgent if you find it running slow.

Camey, sorry for your losses. Seems they came in threes again.

Helen, one of my sisters is an avid tennis player - almost 80 and still playing 2-3 times a week. I'm sure she shares your enthusiasm for the sport.

Marlene, I stopped posting my weight because I'm maintaining and just kind of bounce up and down a pound or two. I do weigh-in, but unless I start gaining I won't bother to write it down.

Ei, it's nice you're keeping up with your exercise classes. I know you enjoy them.

Leona, I'm beginning to feel like a Minnesotan, I spend so much time there (digitally)! This line just keeps growing and growing. I have a couple of branches up to the current generation and they still have very large families. Last evening, I went on newspapers.com and found several articles over the years, including one about a horrific cyclone in 1886. Are you familiar with that story? (BTW, the family name is Mohs - and there are still hundreds of them in MN, so you may have come across a few).

Well, the coffee is about gone and the children are ready for something engaging, so I guess I'd better get moving.

I have read all of your posts. So much going on. I hope everyone is doing well. emoticon

nothing happening here with me today. emoticon

I watched Dancing with the Stars. emoticon Niles dance was breathtaking. emoticon

I am watching The Bachelorette. emoticon

When my granddaughters were here a while ago, we watched The Bachelor. and they got hooked on it. They went home to get caught up on On Demand. So they said they were going to watch The Bachelorette too. I have been watching these two shows for years and I am hooked on them. LOL emoticon

My weight was about the same, gained .2 oz. emoticon

My doctor said, as soon as my injury was better, I could resume my regular routine of exercise which is a little more than I have been doing since I hurt my knees. But now I am going to slowly get back into it again. emoticon

A quick note to check in. I went to my ds's a week ago Saturday, and from there to my sister's intending to come home Wednesday, but that was the day the vet told her that Toby would have to be put down and she was so distraught, I stayed until Saturday. Then I had to come home as I was out of meds.
Tomorrow I will have a nuclear stress test and an echocardiogram. My older is coming in the morning to take me. Hope all turns out okay. I have put this off since December! And then Wednesday I have to have my car looked at; it has an electrical short......I am told those can be a bear to find. Right now I only have one headlight, and only one window will open.
I need to do a few things such as finish and mail a couple of cards etc and then take my shower.
Will visit better next time. That is, if my computer will let me. It hardly works at all anymore.

My pound came back to me this week. Which does not surprise me as I am eating on the run and not very healthy. Will have to figure out how I can stop that and still look over my GC.

Lee, social workers can indeed help a lot from hospitals. When my mother was in the hospital and we thought she would be released, they really stepped up and lined up a place for her to go. But, it did not happen as she passed away. So what ever was left over from her estate, my DB's and I set up a trust at the hospital that was to be used for the future education of Social workers in that hospital.

I don't know what you mean by loose cannons, but I am sorry to say that Drew and her brother can be one at times. That is why I will be with them a lot in the future days to try to prevent any negative behavior. She is bipolar and he is autistic. They are both smart but have social issues.

My DGS downloaded Windows 10 and it wiped out his hard drive. Took it to a Microsoft store and they will not say it it the software. They said the hard drive was bad. emoticon

Camey, yes I know the drill. I don't have any animals, but my DD has two and I can see the mess they make at times.
Sorry about the deaths. Always sad to lose love ones.

Nas, I agree about the handouts to adults. But, I do help my DD's as long as there are children in the household. I don't want to see the children suffer. Both DD's do not use drugs nor do they drink. Sometimes they drive me to drink. LOL

Marlene, good to hear your nephew is doing better. I am sure the hospital will work out a payment plan for him.

Irish Ei, good job with the exercise and food.

Frances, I have googled the Billington family and lots of info out there, but so far nothing on his parents. But, did find out Richard Gene is also related to that family. Always fun to look for info.
Hope you got your nap. Oh, I am sorry, I think you mean the kidlets got their naps.

Helen, it is true, we all have some sort of cross to bear in our lives.

Leona, if I got up when I woke up, I would be up all night. I set a time in my mind to get up each morning. I try to hit for 8 hours of sleep.

Betty, enjoy the warm weather,

Dot, what a day for you and Barbara. Hopefully she can come visit you once in awhile. But, it is great her son is stepping up to the plate to help out.

Maureen, always enjoy your notes - long and short.

Did some errands today as I have today and tomorrow off from the DGC. I will be able to play cards tonight. Catch up on all the new gossip as I did not make on Wed.

Had a friend come by that is also a friend of Barbara's, Jackie. We made plans to go and see Barbara. I then went to the grocery store and got the much needed food. Made a sandwich for a late lunch and then went to see Barbara with Jackie who picked me up. Barbara looked so much better. Her brown eyes had a spark in them. I asked her if she wanted a book to read and she said, "That would be nice." She is appearing back to normal...hopefully they will keep her in the hospital for a couple more days. I think her son plans on coming back to town on Wednesday. Anyway it was great to see her smiling and responding to our questions. Will take her a book when I go to see her tomorrow. I thought for sure we were going to lose her...but she has bounced back. I don't think she has dementia, I think her big problem is being unable to hear. It is a sad thing.

Frances thank you so much for your offer regarding my GGF.. That is so sweet of you. Will be in touch with the small amount of information I have.

Well guess it is time to get some dinner. Think it is going to be another sandwich and cold slaw. I bought a jar of Maries Dressing Lee...I love that stuff.

I have to get a Pedicure tomorrow if they have an opening. Have been putting it off procrastinating again. Will I never learn.

Have a good evening, God Bless,
Dot

Hi everyone-was a good weekend in NH. My DGD sang Think of Me and nailed it. We didn't know that our grandson was also going to perform. He sang a classical piece that he sang for his all state audition - after hearing him, I thought, "...no wonder he made it!"

My dd and dgd went shoe shopping as they are both in a wedding in Denver in June. It was fun looking at PayLess and watching the 12 y.o. try on shoes that I knew her mother would never let her wear! They did find shoes they both liked.

I did a lot of cooking - just to give my dd a bit of a break. She usually spends Sunday afternoon cooking for most of the week as she does not have time by the time she gets home.

Helen-I was going to ask what holiday it was today. A friend of mine from Nova Scotia emailed that he was home as it was a holiday, but didn't say what holiday!

This is it for now, but I am sorry for everyone's losses
Take care.

Dot I echo what a good friend emoticon you are. I hope you got some food in you a good rest. Of course you are relieved that her son will take responsibility. That is what is needed and Lord knows you have enough on your plate.

I am glad your nephew is home and feeling better. Since he is not working and has not been, he might check and see if the Hospital has a source of help. That is how Brian and Pam got hooked up with help. It pays to talk to the social worker there.

Camey I am so sorry to hear you have lost so many near and dear.

Helen. I have come across the loose cannons (some in my family) but just happy not my children or grandchild etc. Or me (yet) lol Sorry to hear about your friends parents.

Thanks Ei! The Windows 10 download was free. I loved Windows 7 as user friendly with few glitches, but my thoughts are that before too long, Microsoft will no longer support 7. So I took a leap of faith. Here's hoping.

Maureen we do seem to think along the same lines at times.

Frances, glad you got in a good me weekend. emoticon

Marlene I am pretty sure I checked in the the weight but will look again. Thanks for the heads up.

I had a busy day. (won't bore you) but tomorrow comes Happy Feet. Wed. my yearly echo.
and so it goes.

Hugs to all,

Mel, I got news for you, I don't care if the house is clean now. LOL Having Hailey for protection nobody comes. I do what I can when I can, but I don't have cob webs. LOL
Nothing stays clean forever. Sometimes, I am lucky it stays for a week. Dh and the dog don't help. Grass comes in, dog hairs, stuff where it should be and I have to put it back, you must know the drill.

Got bad news, a neighbor died, then a friend's sister died, then my girlfriend of many years, she is 8l, and we grew up together in the same neighborhood, her sister has dementia and she called the police saying her husband beat her. This was the sister calling the police so she is in the hospital as no bruises on her arms. When her husband got up to go to the bathroom she accused him of going to meet his girlfriend. The hospital, where her doc is, has been trying to get some pills to calm her down. She will go to the nursing home in the dementia ward after she leaves the hospital and she will raise cane, my gf told me. She keeps calling her sister, my gf, and wants to come live with her because she says her husband beats her. So sad. Another girlfriend has ben diagnosed with dementia, but she sees people that are not there and she is 8l. It is just so sad.

Well, hard to believe my anniv God willing is only 3 months away and 55 years, as it is Sept. 2. I hope I make 60, but one never knows. Today, no energy, acking all over but not as bad as the other day, with muscle aches. Did manage to change beds and wash sheets and cook lunch. I just hate days like this.

Nas - It is so hard to watch while someone is in dire need - unless of course they are spending their money on foolish things or drugs. I'm watching a Canadian channel for tennis and they are just covering the lesser players and not the "stars", so it is rather boring. I'm too cheap to spend $10 so I can get all the tennis channels. I think there are at least 3. Once they get into the 3rd, 4th, etc. rounds, the coverage is better. So you aren't missing much.

Today we are celebrating Victoria Day (Queen Victoria's birthday).

I took out a lot of dates to make room for more of the year on the spreadsheet. If you had posted weight and never went back to finish, you will be gone and will have to start over. emoticon
I probably will not send a sparkmail to the team because if you are faithful about posting your weight you will be okay.

My nephew is home, I talked to him yesterday afternoon and he even sounded better. Now he is worrying about paying the bill as he has no insurance. He is supposed to go to work June 1st and is also concerned about finishing my deck. But there are rain showers in the forecast every day this week. So far has missed me, there was lightening emoticon last night but nothing got close.

Good morning everyone. Have a wonderful week.

Dot, How lucky you were with your friend when she got ill yesterday. Such a scare. It is a good thing her son is going to take her to his house when she gets out of the hospital. Friends sure are wonderful and I know he had to appreciate all you did.
I am sure you were exhausted and hungry with such a long day. God bless you for your kindness.

Lee, I love your new photo. Glad you got your new Windows 10 and hope you enjoy it. I have heard it takes awhile to get used to.

Marlene, I do hope your nephew gets better. Seems all families have problems with someone that we worry about. I will pray for him and hope he gets a job after he gets better too. I know you would love to have your deck to use too.

Fran, Glad you had some me time.... I know you are so busy with the grandkids each day. (-:

Helen, Sorry about your friends parents. That happened to mine several years ago. They passed away 3 weeks apart to the day. Was really hard on me and my siblings. They did have 53 wonderful years together though, so they were lucky compared to some. Miss they all the time even though they are gone a long time already. So sorry about the drugs used on the )-: horses. Sad to think of this. I love to watch the race but did not get too this time.

Off to exercise class today. Been doing better with my food and exercise this past week and hope to continues. Have a wonderful day everyone.

hugs to all, Irish Ei

Good morning! I, too, was up with the birds today. The rain stopped and sun is shining, so it may be a nice one. I had a terrific weekend - accomplished quite a bit and found time for friends and "grown-up" conversation.

Helen, you gave me my laugh for the day. There are lots of "loose canons" in the world and most of us have one or two in our (extended) families so don't have to go looking for them. I'm happy to hear you were able to find some on loan. LOL.

Leona, it seems the historical groups in Minnesota do a very good job of recording individual stories. It's been a gold mine for me so far!

Betty, you have a busy day ahead. The tap class will enjoy seeing their performance, I'm sure.

Nas, my rule is to give time, energy, even material things that I purchase, but rarely cash. Money just slides through some fingers too quickly.

Dot, it was good of you to look after your friend and I'm sure her family appreciated your care.

Maureen, I used to make bread-and-butter pickles. Haven't had them in a long time. Yum.

Lee, good for you getting your computer backed up and updated. I tend to procrastinate with that stuff and should know better.

Janice, it's nice you had a peaceful visit at the cemetery. I find they are good places for reflection.

Mel, have you researched you line before emigration? There are so many digitized records now that it's possible to go back quite a long way without leaving your computer.

Marlene, sorry your nephew is ill. Hope he can get back to finish your deck soon.

Today, both kidlets are cheerful and energetic - Yay! We're going to make funny eye-glasses with foam frames, decorations, and glue, then have alphabet lessons. By then, the grass and puddles should have dried out, so we can get outdoors. Fingers crossed for a successful day and nap!

Went to bed early, got up before the birds! Put the French Open on and made some coffee. Mmmm!

Received news from an dear Spark Friend - her mother died. So sad. She died just days after her significant other died. I guess that happens sometimes. They were so closely tied.

Boy, did I regain some lbs.! Time to get v-e-r-y serious!

Mel - I collected a varied group over the years. Maybe that happens when one is single for many years and doesn't have children. The rest of the world thinks you have time for them - and THEM usually includes the neurotics and self-absorbed, etc. But they make life interesting for the rest of us, as I once read in a book by a learned man. LOL I suppose since my family were not problematic the universe handed me some that were loosely (canons) going around. Nobody gets off free in this world.

Dot - Lucky for your friend, you were around!

Have a great day! Back to tennis. . .

Hello all,

Dot- What a friend she has in you. emoticon Sometimes we get stubborn at a later stage in life and do not realize the dangers.

Woke up early and got up but slept through the night. emoticon

Rain here today. We may not go into Minneapolis.

My son is supposed to come and check the kitchen equipment at the Church. Father wants a new stove but my son thinks he can fix it. He will charge him for the equipment but not the service.

I think I will do some reading before everyone gets up. Even the dogs are still sleeping. Once I wake up, I get up.

Take care,

Good Morning everyone,

Temps are getting warmer and I hope to open the windows today and turn down the heat. I am off to tap class this morning...I am taking my camera with me so I can film their routine for them to see. There are no mirrors in the room for them to see themselves.

Need to stop at the grocery and pick up a few things I forgot yesterday and get some stamps. I have bills to put in the mail..Then tackle the laundry...

Lots of smiles to you all today... Betty :)

Went to Church with my friend Barbara and she almost passed out twice. I ended up driving her car because she was unable to when we left church...I could not persuade her to go to the ER so went to our restaurant where we always meet up with my niece and her husband...My niece and I both talked her into going to the ER. At the ER she was given all the tests, she was dehydrated, her B/P very low...I knew she had not been eating and informed them of that. After several hours they got ready to transport her to the hospital. So we got to come home it was around 5:00pn. I had not eaten all day. I called her son to let him know his Mother was in the hospital. Bless his heart he drove a couple of hours to see her and then came knocking on my door. When she is released from the hospital he will be taking her home to live with them. Her other son is in rehab right now for a back problem. I was so happy her son will be taking care of her. He said he and his wife had been asking her to move to where they live for a year or more. But she would not do it. Now he said, she will have to. She can't live alone. Can't tell you what a relief it was to hear that. Barbara and I met in 1980 so it is a long friendship...I will miss her. But wanted to know she would be cared for.

So that was my day kids...what a day!
Love to you all. Goodnight and God Bless you all.

Just a short note again. Went to church this morning and then some shopping. on the way home. One of the three churches in our parish is having their 150th anniversary in about 2 weeks and I was asked to provide bread and butter pickles for the luncheon after.. Did so before I forgot to pick them up and gave to the woman who is looking after that part of things. Marlene will include your nephew in my prayers. Hope that the BP gets settled and he is not too long in Hospital. Will not comment on "dirty laundry" but know we all have those things happen occasionally. Lee I will "ditto " your message today as it covers my thoughts also. Helen ,it was sad when I saw the race results. Did not realise how many types of drugs can be used on horses to keep them able to race. emoticon emoticon Sue please join us and let us get to know you.

Hello all,

Mel- What a story.

Janice- emoticon It is hard but I try to remember the good times.

Sue- emoticon Please post. You will soon get to know us.

Frances or Anyone- Ask if you need any help from the Minnesota side. I find that the historical societies have good info.

Today, I said to my daughter "Isn't it nice to have a famous ancestor because we can find information?" I am referring to Titian, the Italian artist. My aunt showed on chart that there was Conte and then a son and then Titian. I found info on his father and grandfather. I wish I had the Internet when my mother was here as it is so helpful.

Take care all.

Hi all:

I backed up my computer. Then downloaded Windows 10. Kept Firefox, browser and Thunderbird. for mail. I do like Outlook Express but got used to Thunderbird. Now getting
used to the rest.

Marlene I had a nephew who borrowed money. Half paid back and then he got on drugs.
I think he is off and he writes and says he'll pay me back when on his feet. Do I believe it. lol
It is Sad but as you said you know what you are doing. Me too.

Is this a permanent thing going back and fort Mel? Hope not. you are super.

Frances I don't know how your find time to do all you do.. but kudos.

Welcome to our new Sue. Hope you will join right in. emoticon

Leona and Janice..the anniversaries will always be there. The first few are the hardest, especially the first.

Mel that is terrific to play music your DH loved. I half a tape of songs my DH2 wrote and sang for me. I have a copy of the service of DH 3. since his kids and mine were afraid to, I spoke on his behalf. Darned good job if I say so myself.

Janice I am glad being on here has helped you in some way.

I ordered one of Doris's books and it will be her Tuesday. I am not sure which is the sequel
Can anyone tell me?

Got to get going as haven't checked in with the "kids".

thanks for the nice words about my picture...Camera hid the wrinkles and believe me they are there. But I call them character lines.

Hugs all,
Lee

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday was the anniversary of my husband, Allan's passing. On Friday, my son and I went back to the cemetery. When we go, we like to spend some time walking around there. It is so beautiful. They have several chapels. They have beautiful statues. They have a Memorial Garden that you can walk through. We like to go to the St. Mary's Chapel where the ceremony was held. My husband was a Viet Nam vet and he had military honors and the American Flag was given to me. We went to the St. Anthony chapel where my husband's resting place is and lit a candle there as well as at St. Mary's. We went outside to say good bye at my husband's mausoleum which faces outside. We were surprised to see a man standing there . I realized that the man was standing in front of his wife's resting place and I told him that up there is my husband and this is the first anniversary of his passing. He told me which one was his wife's and I said, " I'm sorry," he said, "me too!" and then I realized that he was crying. I felt so bad for him. I told my son, let's wait over here, but then the man left. I felt so bad for him. His wife passed in 2013 and I could see that he was still lost without her. It is good to know that there is such LOVE still left in this world. We always try to make our visits to see my Allan a positive experience. Sad and I miss him very much but I feel him around me all the time. I know that Spirit never dies,

Yesterday, Saturday, my neighbor came to see me. She grew up with my children and still lives with her brother in their childhood home. They are both divorced and both their parents have passed away. She is so sweet. She remembered that it was the anniversary of Allan's passing and brought me gifts. She made spaghetti and meatballs for me and Rob and brought me a book and two DVD's about the after life. She also made me a beautiful framed poem that she wrote with a picture of my husband. The Poem was about how he is looking down on us and is with us and how we can feel him in the breeze or the warmth of the sunlight. She is such a good neighbor. She did the same thing Last Christmas, bringing me a meal and a DVD. I wondered, how did I get so lucky? I never expected it and I appreciated it so much.

I got my last letter from the Hospice. They sent me letters all year that helped me along in the stages of grief.

I also want to thank everyone on this Chat for welcoming me into the group and making me feel like I am one of you. It has helped me through this grief process. Even though I have a long way to go, I want you all to know how much I appreciate each and every one of you! emoticon

I am taking a break from the GC. I sent them home rested, clean and fed. I will go back at 8 and stay until 11:30 and then come home.
Right now I am listening to music that I played at my DH's service. It is not the usual church music, but it did fit him. Playing "My Way" by Frank Sinatra, "In the Garden" by alan Jackson,
"wind Beneath My Wings by Bette Midler, "King of the Road" by Boots Randolph, "Somewhere over the Rainbow by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole, " I'll Fly Away by Johnny Cash.

Betty, thanks for the encouragement to get on the ball and get the quilt started.

Camey, living alone has one advantage, the house stays cleaner longer. That or you get to the point you don't care.

Helen, that is a strange marriage. But, as they say, "what ever floats your boat"

Marlene, come often and air your laundry. I know we all have trials in our lives.

Leona, yes that is the family. I think I read that book also. The boys almost shot a hole in the bottom of the Mayflower. Then John was captured by the Indians, who gave him back. But, he later died of illness young. Father was hung for murder. I am related to Francis, who survived. What a history.

My break is over as I need to go clean the floor of my garage. It is on my bucket list of things to do this week. So much for a restful Sunday.

Frances, wouldn't it be funny if we found out that we are related? LoL. emoticon

When I was doing the research, I also tried to get a feel for the time to try to see what people were wearing, the hair styles, the causes of death. etc. I find it so interesting. Thanks again for your help. emoticon

I tried using the quotes around the name but nothing new popped up. emoticon

I am thinking seriously of getting the ancestry.com.

Just stopping by to say Hi!

Got to church and grocery this morning, but not much else today...It is warmer and sunny, so I wander outside to enjoy those warm rays. I have finished my projects for now...so now I am looking for something else to get into..

Mel: Once you start on a quilt it gets fun..getting started is the hardest part. Hope you fed some enthusiasm soon...They would so enjoy a quilt made by you. Make is simple, even it if is just squares made from a couple of cute baby prints.

My prayers go to all those who are not feeling well and smiles go to you all...

Helen I had a nice journey with my writing, singing and acting, but the journey is going slow now. I don't have the speed I used to have and now it is just a hobby. If this was my calling then I should have been famous by now. LOL

Well, today, the legs are not really that cold. I was fine in church until someone opened the door and the cold damp air came in. I have cords on but just can't get this dampness our of my legs. No sun today and possibly rain so I am not in for a good day, for sure, with my legs getting cold again.

Age is what you make it, but some days, it is hard to get through it. Getting that smile on your face is a chore when you are hurting.

I have those balls for the arthritis in my thumbs. Hurt to type, sometimes bad. Even trying to cook and peel. Life goes on though, with or without you. So we make the best of it.

Tomorrow, will try and help dh with those twigs that need to be cut up small. Today, not a day to be outside with the dampness. I probably should changed the beds so tomorrow I can wash the sheets early. Monday is usually my day for that. So much to do in the house and yet, it gets done piece work, a little at a time. Stays clean for a few days and by the time you finish one room, another is calling you. How we did all this when we were young and went to work was something. Too bad that energy we didn't have now.

Frances - we posted at the same time. I forgot they still get away with all that at tracks. My friend didn't tell me the circumstances. Yes, it sickens me too.

Leona, thanks for the offer! The families in Minnesota are my 1st-, 2nd-, and 3rd-cousins but mostly 2X removed and there are hundreds (and hundreds!) of them. The nice thing is that some people have already done a lot of work and I'm able to get stories and photos even from the earliest immigrants. I'll call on you if I run into any brick walls. Thank you.

Dot, if you would like to send me information on your great-grandfather, I'd be happy to take a look for you. British records are very, very well-kept and mostly online, so easy to access. Send me his name (whatever you have) and the year he was born if you know it (or approximately). If you know his parents' or his wife's names, his occupation, or any other details, that would help too. Most important is the name and birthdate of the child he left behind, as that should lead to both parents' information. You'd be surprised how easy it can be sometimes to find a "missing link."

Helen, I was disgusted to hear about those horses. I love to watch them run, but cannot stand it when some greedy owners resort to drugs, etc so they wind up with enlarged hearts, and weakened systems. I missed the race as I was out (and now I'm glad).

Lee, love the picture. You look like you're getting younger!!

I had a nice day yesterday - a little shopping and some errands, then dinner with a good friend. I also picked up some simple "summer camp" crafts at Hobby Lobby to use with the kidlets this week. Now, I'm going to go have coffee with my daughter. Then, this afternoon I have to make a quick run to the grocery and do a little cleaning (very little, no doubt - LOL) and laundry.

BBL...

Oh, it's a good morning in spite of the rain, which we need.

I watched All The Way last night on HBO. It was excellent! Bryan Cranston played Pres. L.B. Johnson - what an actor! Everyone was exceptional I thought.

Loved all your concern and thank you! My ex-husband still phones me and I have added his wife to my list of friends. It's a strange marriage but one hand washes the other - I try to keep them together as much as possible. He can't stand anyone living with him, so she lives separately. Both require a lot of attention, if you know what I mean! LOL

Still sending prayers and good wishes your way.

Thanks, Helen, but I would rather keep my sales local or give them away.

Up and have my shower and time to think what I will wear to church. The sun is halfway shining this morning.

My nephew is in the hospital with high BP. They could not get it down in ER so they kept him overnight. Not sure how he is going to pay for it because he has nothing. He will have a job in June so maybe he can make payments. I talked to his Mother last night and she is worried which is understandable. He is 58 years old and has a twin brother that is responsible but has a family to help. This twin has about broke his parents down in the past. No money and this is the reason he begged to live in one of my vacant houses that is an old farm house it bad need of repair. That is the reason I am having him work to pay the rent, he is also supposed to be fixing up the house he lives in but so far that has not happened. He is a certified carpenter. I am not out anything, he does pay the utilities or his girl friend does. I don't ask. Please, don't reply. I know what I am doing. I learned a long time ago not to give him money. He took my Mother for a bunch. I took it out of his dad's share when Mother passed. Now his dad is also gone.

Nothing like airing dirty laundry. Just keep my nephew in your prayers.

Good Morning,

Up early this morning and will be going to church so just a short note.

Helen I have lots of family, but can still feel very alone. Do feel for you. Nobody can take the place of a loving DH.

Elsie have a good trip and try to rest as much as you can. You are one busy lady!

Maureen thank you for your prayer...Chris and I appreciate all the prayers being said for him, thanks, you are all a blessing through a very tough time.

Time to hop in the shower and get going here.

Good Evening,

It's been a very busy week for me...opened the gift shop at the hospital both Monday and Friday, spent all day Tuesday with my daughter, then Wednesday I worked in the church library for 3 hours processing in some of the 50 books we bought. Thursday morning was TOPS then I stopped at Lowe's and bought a cabinet for the TOPS chapter. Friday was a daughter's birthday so we were gone all afternoon and evening again. today we had a family dinner celebrating 2 birthdays this month. After the dinner, we loaded the vans so we can leave early tomorrow morning for Michigan.

I may have sporadic posts next week since I'll be at my brothers and he doesn't have internet. We will leave Michigan to return home next Saturday morning. A quick unplanned trip because my granddaughter's other grandma isn't doing well. Sharon has been ill for several years. She is on dialysis. This is their biological dad's mother.

Tonight I am tired, sore, and worn out....lol

Take care............Elsie

Helen- I am with you. When my daughter sold her car, she met the people at her brother's shop in the daytime and he was here with her.

One son came up with his daughter and did some fishing. He was going to mow but the battery was dead.
He will come up again tomorrow and another son is bringing some more containers that Ambassador Sausage used when they made sausage. They are stainless steel and large. Worked great for the plants last year and I did not have to get on the ground.

Take care,
Leona

Marlene - We have something online called Kijiji where people put anything they want to sell. I only hesitate b/c you never know who comes to your door - so better if there is a man around too at the time. You have to be careful these days.

Camey - I just never had the drive. I guess I was meant for other things - hey, that's what I tell myself anyway. . .lol

Mickey - I'm starting to show and feel my age around younger people now - it's the way they act towards me. Guess it is inevitable, so I'll live with it but I do have to be careful I set them straight right off or they will take advantage.

My heart goes out to you who are suffering with illness in your families. I had to look after my mother in the end and that was all. Wally worked up to the very end and lasted only 10 days in the hospital before he died five years ago. It hasn't been easy without any family for support but then I was on my own most of my life, so am getting used to it again.

Helen they told me I would never get published and were surprised when I did. You should have went along with your dream. Now, it is a hobby writing for me. If it happens it is fine, if not doesn't make much difference. I do not go with Amazon, I always go traditional publishers where they do the marketing, not me. As for singing, the post nasal drip has stopped my voice so I only sing at home so if I lose it then doesn't matter. But singing in front of people does. I enjoyed that part of my life.

Hay thank you all for wishing I feel better with the cold legs. Today, I put on the heaver cords and top and it felt a bit warmer and put on nylons instead of socks. The temp went to 77 and I was outside in the sun and my legs felt nice and warm. Now, the temp is going down and is 60 but house is 74 still. Windows are closed but starting to feel the cold in the legs. My circulation is fine the doc told me before when I told him my feet get cold. My dad always had a blanket over his legs watching tv, God bless him. Last night had the comforter over me and I was so warm I was sweating, but the legs were warming up, so just can't win. Dh said what am I going to do when I can't stand the heat and the ac goes on? I told him I will have to leave it at 80 and just get a little cold air coming in. Never knew I would come to this.

Today, we went to lunch and I had salmon with veggies. We had a free desert and we split the cake, and it was soooo good. Tonight made egg salad and I love it.

I helped dh outside with the bushes we lost with this crazy mother nature up one day and freezing the next. We were pruning them and still more to get in the barrow. Little trees are popping up and want them out before they grow tall and fall on the house. So now I am suffering as my thumbs hurt from using the clippers. His back is hurting. We just don't learn.
But cost too much to have someone come in and do it.

David came and I now have a TV to watch. In fact watched a Hallmark movie after he left. I need a few things at the store but may put it off until tomorrow afternoon. Plan on going to church tomorrow.

Thank you all for your support and kind words. It helps sometimes to just accept the sadness, and to show it to all of you. Chris does have a good attitude and so I try to be very strong around him. We will hang in there and hope for a cure soon, so he can get back to being himself again. I feel your prayers. God continues to lift me up and give me His peace. I promise not to dump on you all to often.

Camey hope your aches were better as the day progressed. Mickey good that you could stand up for your self with the guys..that was very nice way to put them in their place.

Mel May 28th was always a good date for me because it was my Dads Birthday and the birth of Chris my first born son. So sorry your DH passed away on that date...my dates are all in June. June 6th DH died in my arms. June 12th GS Jason died. Will not forget to pray a blessing for you. Mel I wonder about Nora too and miss her on here. Have emailed her but no reply.

Lee, Love the new selfie picture and the haircut. Very becoming!

Frances good job helping everyone interested in Genealogy out...pointing them in the right direction on how to proceed. There are quite a few of you that enjoy that hobby, keeps things interesting ~ and your brains active. I am a firm believer in keeping the mind busy with hobbies of all kinds. I would like to know about a GGF that came to America from England in the 1850's. Trouble is that nobody is alive now to find out what his first name was or any information. The story goes that his wife died in childbirth and he left the child with a neighbor woman and sailed to the US with intentions of coming back for the child. Was never heard from again. The child was my GF my Dads Father. Wish I was interested enough to start digging but I am not.

My best to all of you and I DITTO all of Mel and Lees messages.
Hugs and Blessings,
Dot

Mel - I Spark Mail with a gal who lives in Florida (a displaced New Yorker) who just told me about the two horses otherwise I wouldn't have known. Am listening to the hoopla before the Preakness right now but they, of course, haven't mentioned a word about it as yet.
You never know what is going to happen when the track is so sloppy. It's also so important to have a good base to the track. I can't imagine why Pimlico wouldn't. They do take their chances with their horses though - but they also have them insured to the hilt!!!!

Love the new pictures of you ladies here!

Getting on here while the last load of wash finishes.
Then time for a nap before I go get the DGK as they are spending the night here.

Lee, I like your new picture. I always enjoy when my DB comes so I get some honey dos.
I am sure Ron will enjoy helping you out.

Helen, did you hear about the two horses that died before the Preakness? That is sad.

Marlene, nice new picture also. Good luck with the exercise equipment. Hopefully someone will see the need to acquire it.

Camey, it nice you have such a great time with your DGD. Nice to hear the pain is less today.

Nas, maybe your message just flew up Heaven with your prayers and kind thoughts.

Leona, so how does the book your reading treat the name of Billington from the Mayflower?
They were not a very popular family on the Mayflower.

Betty, I wish I had your energy as to the quilting. I tell myself I need to make a quilt for my First GGS who is coming in July. But, here I sit with nothing done.

Dot, I continue to pray for Chris. So sad to see our children suffering. It is a helpless feeling as we can only do so much. Such as finding books for him to read. But, every bit helps.

Frances, you really did a great lesson on genealogy. I have done most all that you described.
I wrote my family book about 6 years ago and gave out copies to all the family members.
But, I still get the itch and go back looking for things I might have missed.

Mickey, enjoy your visit with the family. Hope you have great weather.

This is a bad time for me as May 28th is when my DH passed away. He went into a Hospice House for about 8 days before he passed away. That was 3 years ago. My mind keeps going back to that time.
I also think of Nora as her DH passed away on the same day.

Time for a nap.

Hi all:

Marlene you sure are having trouble getting help and beating out the rain. I bet you are exhausted. Hope you can sell some of the "stuff" you no longer use.

Hope you get to feeling better soon. Camey.

Dot, tears come to my eyes thinking of poor Chris. So glad you can fill up his nook.
I know your heart is breaking to see him in pain. Glad you got yourself a new TV and do hope David gets over there tomorrow.

Spared rain so far today.

Mickey I loved your answer to your co-workers. Hope you are enjoying the goings on in NH.

Frances and Helen I too am glad I am not working as wouldn't be as patient as Mickey.

Helen I do look forward to Ron and Sheila coming. They are easy to have around and Ron doesn't like to be idle. I have a honey do list. (not big as no fair to them) I hire and just don't mention to Brian as one of the biggest problems he has with being ill is not being up to
doing much. God knows, he tries then gets completely wiped out.

Janice, nice you can share your geneaolgy love with others on here.

I enjoyed my day today. got my haircut and hence the new picture.

Hugs to all,
Lee

Camey - hope you are feeling somewhat better. I too wrote, sang and did all those things but was never given any support or steered in any direction - their hope was that I would get married some day. . . so I did when I was age 30! And no kids.

Marlene - Sometimes I suppose it is no advantage having husky men around, etc. I won't be envious anymore of those on here who have.
The thing is, I figure, if you hire them for money, the way I have to, then they are here in a flash! lol Except for my nice friend Richard who is a Good Samaritan - so I try not to take advantage of him. He won't take any money but is an electrician so I let him do that stuff and then give him a nice gift (usually Wally's coins) at Christmas.

It's a beautiful day for gardening. Have some weeds I should pull up. It rained again last night.

The Preakness is run today so I'll root for the winner of the Kentucky Derby. The track should be in sloppy condition - at least that's what they said yesterday.

Enjoy your day! emoticon

I have been busy this morning. Well, all the time. I went out to the garage for some reason and thought such a mess. So I have been moving stuff and vacuuming. I have a lot of exercise equipment, I think I will see if anyone is interested in giving me an offer. Right now I am exhausted. I moved the machines to vacuum and they are heavy. I sent text to son, daughter and a couple grand kids but no one offered to come and help me today. My furniture off the deck is out there, too. It keeps raining off and on so nephew has not been back to put another coat on the deck floor. I did put a small table and chair on there so I can sit out there. and some plants, some of them are hanging and east to move.

No energy to type. emoticon

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your interests, but also to the interests of others.

Thanks Lee. The computer is working, not as bad as before but once in a while it goes off and comes back on because of some program that gets in the way. My friend took out a lot of programs I did not need, but we just can't find that one giving me the problem. But I can live with it now as it does not do it as often.

Nas I will be 83 in two weeks and believe me I know what you mean about grandkids. Surprised me she wants to sleep over where she is so busy. Maybe she realizes I am getting old and needs to spend some time with me. We have a relationship like friends, as she talks to me about a lot of her life, some things she doesn't even tell her parents. She has seen some things in dreams, like I have and we talk about it. I think she took after me in some ways as she is a good writer, she also sang, she loves to read.

Well, yesterday was a bad day with the arthritis in the muscle. I finally decided to take some Tylenol before I went to sleep. I had to sleep with the comforter over my legs but then I was too hot and my legs were still cold but not as cold. Today, walking better and took some more pills. I guess your blood thins as you age and you feel the cold. My legs are still cold today but not as bad as yesterday and the pains are less but still there.

Hello all,

emoticon and emoticon for Dot and Chris.

Frances- Great job. emoticon

Our Library has ancestry.com for free. I email the info to me and then I print what I need.

I have boxes of info I have printed and written. I have learned to date and where I got the info. I make a copy of the cover of the book I have read and also put it in my files.
I am scanning photos into the computer and then I file the pictures in envelopes that are marked with the names of the people. I have photo albums that I put them into when I get the chance. Each one of my kids have their own with their school pictures, etc. With such great printers now, I can print pictures so each one has a picture. I have printed pictures to send to family.

The book I am reading now, Climbing Your Family Tree by Ira Wolfman, has the names of the people on the Mayflower. I thought that was interesting. This is a kid's book.

Frances- We have MNLINK here at the library. I can get a book from any library in Minnesota including the University of Minnesota. . I have gotten books that have the names of my husband's family and they gave me lots of information. One book had a chapter for his grandfather. If you can find a book that may have info in it, let me know and I will check it out and send you the info.

Good to see so many interested in genealogy. I have been doing this since high school and it is addictive and never ends.

Sunny today. emoticon The kids may come up to put in the dock and mow the lawn. Mower was broken so they had to fix it. They have all been so busy. The yard has been so wet, they could not do the yard. The lilacs are in bloom and so pretty. The flowers we did not have in West Texas were lilacs and peonies and I love those.

Need to read today. I have gotten way behind in the American Patriot's Almanac so need to start that again. William Bennett was on FOX the other day and reminded me when I saw him.

Take care,
Leona
