Just checking in, wishing a Happy Thanksgiving to all. Am visiting DD & family in Silverhills, AL. It's always good to see them, but a long ride (13h) to get here. I did break up the trip, saw a sign for Hamricks' in SC. just turn L, go 4 miles. Had a great time shopping, what a treat. It helped.

Dot, understand what you're saying about your family being in NC. Mine moved from NC to AL. Not sure if i'll return for Christmas, but will definitely find something at home to keep my mind occupied.

Mary Lou, I can relate to the dark, down times at this time of year. I really have to work at staying upbeat and not bringing my family down with me. I generally improve after the holidays are over.

Share so many of the thoughts about how people act when difficult situations happen.

So glad to have you ladies close by.

Cute poem, Frances.
We must both have been posting at the same time, so I missed it.

One more thing about tomorrow.......my ggs who is autistic and lives in a residential center is being allowed off-campus for the holiday. His mother, who lives in Texas, flew in Monday and got him yesterday morning (he is about 2 1/2 hrs away). I talked to him yesterday and it will be so good to see him, along with my dgd whom I haven't seen for about 2 years and my dgs will be home from college.
Good times!

Hi, back from exercise class and have lots of little things to do today.
I will be going to my dd's for Thanksgiving and will see some of my gc & ggc, plus some of her dh's kids and gdks. Should be lots of fun with good food and good company. I'm looking forward to it......my dsil is such a family-oriented man; he will be down in the floor playing with the little ones, and then later he will bring out games in which all who wish to can participate. Lots of happy noise and laughter. He is such a good host. He also is right there in the kitchen helping my dd prepare the feast.
The ds of my friend who was shot was not killed, but will have a long recovery, according to the last prayer request from a church member who keeps us informed of the prayer requests. Just one more thing to be thankful for; there are so many, they are all around us. And we do need to concentrate on them now more than ever when it is easy to get caught up in all of the bad news.

We need to pray for those who are suffering for evens not in their control, and altho it might be hard, we also need to pray for those who cause the damage and are causing so much pain. Hard to do, but God tells us to do just that. I need to be reminded of that sometimes, as I sometimes get upset and judgmental.

I do hope you all have a wonderful turkey day..........it is a much-needed reminder to stop and give thanks, as we need to do more often; even continually. I tend to forget the continually part. Being a part of this group helps me in so many ways.

I will probably be back later today.
Mary Lou

The pies we are a-baking
The babies they are waking
The leaves we won't be raking
Thanksgiving day is here!

Our friends they are a-driving
And soon will be arriving
The family's all high-fiving
To have our loved ones near!

The turkey is a-brining
The sun is bright and shining
Soon we will be dining
With laughter and good cheer!

Our heads we will be bowing
With belts that are allowing
But later we'll be vowing
To do it all next year!

Just my thoughts emoticon With apologies to Doris, our resident poet - I can't seem to restrain myself this year!

Here we are getting ready to give thanks for what we have in life and we see people destroying what others have worked to achieve. It is so sad.

MaryLou, so sorry about Zach. You posted that he was shot. Does that mean it did not kill him?
I pray that is the case and he is doing ok.

Mickey, I also could not find turkey wings, but I did find turkey necks. So I am going to make gravy with those. Will give it a try today.

Yesterday, I finally cleaned my closet of pants that are too big for me. Must of been about 15 pairs. I washed them and took them to goodwill. Now I can't get too big for my britches.

I also have been doing some exercises as I watch TV. It gets me out of the chair and on my feet moving.

I will wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving as I don't know if I will find time to get on here tomorrow. There will be 8 of us for an early dinner at 11.

Good Morning all,

Helen glad the snow hasn't arrived yet. Stay warm.

Temp is 54* here and has been raining with fog all night. Roads are just now beginning to dry. Going to be a windy chilly day...but the rain will clear out and should be sunny this afternoon. For this time of the year we are really having strange weather. Haven't seen the sun in a couple of days so looking forward to that...when it arrives this afternoon LOL.

Mary Lou...thanks for the link to Jeanne Robertson...have seen it before but really enjoy her. Sorry you had another night of violence but according to the news this morning they were able to disperse the crowd and get control...so things were better then the night before. Sorry about the GS that got shot...is he going to be alright? Will pray for him and your Bible teachers family. Hope they caught who shot him and that he will be bought to justice. Hang in there " This to shall pass." It is just hard going though the period of time it takes to pass. God Bless and stay safe.

Good morning Yvonne loved to see your sunshine this morning. Are you cooking for Thanksgiving?

Wishing you all a Blessed and Happy Thanksgiving. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
Dot
PS: Lee relax and enjoy fixing the Turkey Breast and the veggies. Bravo for Brian staying away from temptation....wonderful that they are trying so hard to lose weight. God Bless you all and have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Frances...Could not agree with you more. Hope everyone will direct their thoughts and prayers toward gratitude tomorrow for the blessings we do have bestowed upon us.

Hugs and Blessings,
Dot

Good morning! The day before and much to do. Children are out of school and excited to be helping with preparations.

Lee, a day at home, surrounded by family, and a good meal together. What more can anyone ask? I hope you have a lovely holiday.

Helen, I did not watch the "interview" but saw it as I was channel-changing. The one thing I will say is that I was astonished at how young the police officer is - only 28! No one has mentioned that, that I know of and it strikes me as a very big factor in terms of experience, judgment, reaction times, and so forth.

Camey, glad you got your new TV. You'll be able to enjoy the Thanksgiving parades!

Mattie, the people who riot don't have jobs. They are bums. That's why they riot. Responsible citizens have better things to do, e.g. work, look after their families, etc as you suggest.

Yvonne, it's cool here, too(in NY) - but no snow yet! At my home in Virginia they already have a fair amount of snow and schools are closed.

Nas, I'm going to look for a restaurant that serves pithes. They sound really good.

Betty, it's so nice your son arrived safe and sound and you will have this time together. Enjoy!

Mary Lou, sorry about your friend's son. Hopefully, you'll get a big blizzard or a snap freeze and all the troublemakers will go back indoors soon.

Marlene, when I saw you were trying to get to Paris I thought I'd missed something! I hope you get a picture of yourself by the "eiffel tower." Your granddaughter must be a very kind and patient person to be able to care for a 3-year-old with so many allergies and still keep him happy. Not an easy job.

Doris, the concert must have been wonderful. Glad you got to enjoy it.

I'm hoping everyone has a nice holiday and that the country, as a whole, stops and reflects on the meaning of "gratitude." There is too little of that, in my opinion, and too much focus on entitlement. A day of honest reflection and giving thanks is just what we need.

Oh Mary Lou, am so sorry to hear about another death in this awful thing. Seems like no on will be happy until the lynch the policeman. I fee sorry for all concerned and the losses of so many.
I think prayer is all we can do now.

Hope you have a safe trip home.

I had planned on taking family out to dinner tomorrow but had bought a couple of turkey breasts for sandwiches and for them to take turkey home. However, Brian called and asked if I minded if we didn't go out so he could avoid all the temptation. His sugar is down and they are try desperately to lose weight. He didn't want to ruin his brother's day. Not at all. Both Patrick and I are pleased they want to watch it. So. It will be turkey breast and salad and more veggies tomorrow. Certainly won't hurt any of us and we can stay home and enjoy being together. Looking forward to it. As Patrick put it...quality time.

I hope things at least quiet down and Thanksgiving will give the rioters a moment of reflection.
One can hope.

Glad your son arrived safely Betty and yours got home safely as well Mary Lou.

Happy the Day before.
Hugs all,
Lee

Good Morning! Been here awhile but just made coffee and listening to the news.

Camey - Seems to me, when I think of it now, Safari (like your Norton but we get it free with the machine) warned me against downloading Adobe but over time I have a tendency to forget - and then suddenly I couldn't spin the wheel, so knew what the problem was. I couldn't bother to go to the internet and download Adobe there as I used to, so instead, b/c it is still free for me, I called in the help of an Apple techie guy. I had the opportunity to go to classes but just didn't bother after the initial few just to familiarize myself with an Apple product. Now that I am used to it, I do prefer this to Microsoft. The machine almost has a mind of its own.

We were supposed to get snow overnight, but it's all clear so far.

Have a great day!

Frances we just got a 32 for my room yesterday LG for l79 at Target pre Black Friday sale.
I will hold on to it till mine goes, could be anytime.

Helen, I have Norton and he tells me not to touch those downloads as they are bad sites.
My friend told me usually there is a sign at the bottom of the page with adobe when they have updates. With Norton it says do you want to let this in and then I know it is safe because it tells me. Real scary as they keep coming.

Just one question about the rioting that I have never seen before . How do the people doing this stay up at night and riot plus hold down a job and take care of a family?? There are so many of them and not all of them are single so I wondered about how they supported themselves and their family ? Just flickered though my mind
Well I am packed and will leave after I get things kind of straight here not doing a lot just plan to enjoy myself ,
see you Sat. or maybe Friday not sure yet

we do not bake them but they are steamed or fried, one we do is of rice flour made into lacy pancakes & that is eaten with meat curry, they are called pithas or pithes, Helen
So true Betty violence anywhere in any country is sad, also hate this rigid insistence on one's own feelings, here they murdered a University Professor because he wanted to have a different lifestyle, he believes in finding God & peace by singing hymns not putting it very well but I feel so sad at how much hatred there is so glad you have your son with you sorry am venting am very very sad so much resentment

Good Morning everyone,

My son arrived from LA and he looks so great and it is sooooo good to give him a big hug and have him here with us. His sister picked him up at the airport and she stayed to have soup with us. It will be a quiet day here...he just likes to be home. We will prepare for turkey day and hopefully get down to see a few family members that we will miss on Thursday since they have other places to go.

The violence in our country right now is so sad and I pray that folks involved will find peace. I will never understand why some want to destroy and cause more violence that doesn't solve anything. Prayers will help.

Mary Lou - I listened to a Toronto interview between Stephanoupolus (sp?) and the policeman this afternoon, which will be aired in its entirety on his station (Good Morning America?) tomorrow morning. Gad, there are so many stories going around. Who to believe?

I am so sorry to hear of Zack's death - oops should have said he was shot. Brings it all home. So sad and should never have happened.

Nas - That's interesting and I'll bet those rice cakes are delicious!

I watched DWTS tonight and didn't realize it was 3 hours long! That should last me into next spring! I was not impressed with the judging. Sadie should not have been in the final. And for her to come in second is ludicrous - but they are now catering to the young and want a younger audience. Bergeron announced on a show not long ago that he won't be coming back to host the show. Too bad. I really liked him. It was between Alfonso and Janel as far as I was concerned. But who cares, really. . .

Good night all . . .

next month we celebrate the harvest of new rice but its not a formal holiday but families make these cakes with rice flour & date juice boiled into sugar something like maple syrup, but its more only in the family we do not do it to that extent now being diabetic & so scared of high sugar reading, my mother in law made them a lot & ate them though she was on insulin & her sugar was high & her children blamed me for not taking better care of her but I enjoy having a bit if somebody makes them for me

Just learned that my bible study teacher's grandson Zack was shot by the rioters in Ferguson Monday night. She has two sons in law enforcement, also.

Riots have resumed tonight. Just turned over a police car and set it on fire. They did that to several police cars last night and set fire to a whole row of cars in an car lot.

It's a nightmare.
And protests are spreading across the country.
Will this never end?

We were trying to get to Paris this evening but still have an hour to got, That is Paris, Texas. My DD and her DH went there on their 25th anniversary years ago, because of the scare about luggage and etc on planes or they would have gone to Paris, France. They say it has an Eiffel Tower replica and a big cowboy hat so we are going to show it to their DD, DH and boys. They are from England. This is my granddaughter that has the three year old with food exema, She makes all his food, nothing processed. Steamed vegetables, some fresh, fresh fruit, no sugar, and all the meat he wants, No fish especially shrimp, no nuts of any kind. He can have some seed products. She uses coconut flour. She is so patient with him. You have to watch him as someone might give him something or he might just find something and eat it. He loves to eat. Says I am hungry, I want a hamburger. His hamburger is just that hamburger meat only without bread or any condiments. She eats mostly the things he does, the dad eats anything but has to do it when the little ones are not watching.

I should be home this time tomorrow evening. I have caught another cold or else it is allergies. Already tired of traveling and now wore out from coughing.

I'm back but it is late and I promised me that I would get to bed early for one night as with all the events coming up..Pies tomorrow and then Thanksgiving Day itself, I need all the sleep that I can get.

I know the news in this country is troubling...and I understand your anger and sadness..but things will settle and life will go on . Perhaps this is just one more lesson for us in this country of how to treat our fellow man and perhaps people will wake up to that fact. We all can hope and pray for that.

Again, the Glen Miller concert was absolutely wonderful and I felt like getting up and 'jitterbugging' in the aisle I'm sure my dil was relieved that I did not!

Well, off to bed so I can start early tomorrow morning on the pies..

Love to all Doris emoticon emoticon

Here you go, Dot... and anyone else who need a laugh:

SOME THOUGHTS FOR SENIORS

The best way to forget all your troubles is to wear tight shoes.

The nice part about living in a small town is that when you don't know what you're doing, someone else does.

The older you get, the tougher it is to lose weight because by then your body and your fat are really good friends.

I read this article that said the typical symptoms of stress are: eating too much, impulse buying, and driving too fast. Are they kidding? That is my idea of a perfect day!

Mary Lou, Just going to DITTO the messages Frances and Mattie Sue sent on here. Both had my thoughts and agreements. I will be mourning some of my losses this Christmas since my GGC and DGD have moved to NC. First Christmas Eve without them. I think I have to find myself a knitting, crochet group to meet with...could use some laughter about now. Glad you got to laugh and relax.

You are in my thoughts and prayer,
Hugs and Blessing,

Ah, there is the Mary Lou we all know and love! emoticon Glad you're feeling better and your friends were able to help you laugh. I feel the exact same way about the ladies in my knitting group in Virginia. They still message me every week with pictures and chatter when they get together.

If your family is very busy through the holidays, why not plan a get-together in mid-January or even early February? By then, everyone's schedule has quieted and most are feeling a little down - or at least bored. Right now there are so many social commitments and things "To Do" before the holidays, people do get frazzled, yet they'll enjoy getting a lift at a mid-winter party.

Just getting dinner ready and then planning a TV evening - "Finding Your Roots," "the Curse of Oak Island" and "The Profit" - all programs my son and I enjoy watching together. School's out until Monday, so Kids Rule! emoticon

Mood is much better.
People and laughter and doing something are keys to recovery.
Didn't get much crocheting done on my baby afghan, but we sure do talk and laugh up a storm. A really compatible group of women. I would go even if I weren't working on anything.
We have plans for a Christmas dinner, with games and a white elephant exchange. And there will be much good food and much laughter. It's wonderful to have a bunch of friends to spend happy time with. I was even invited to someone's house for Thanksgiving dinner if I didn't have anything else planned. That was very sweet of her.

Sounds like everyone on here is busy with their plans for a scrumptious meal.
We will all have a good time......all, except the turkeys!

So the day has largely passed and I haven't accomplished anything on my earrings or cards, but maybe this evening I will make up for it??

Yes, my ds made it home safely. Thanks for asking.

I live perhaps 20-30 minutes from the trouble spots, so nothing occurred here.
One man had his car hijacked and then was run over. One man has been found dead in his car this morning. When I watched the protesters on TV before and during the reading of the results, you could see some of them had their faces covered. That told us in advance what they were planning. And some of them were teenagers and even pre-teens. Who lets their young children attend something like that?
We had all assumed the troublemakers would be from other areas, but of 61 arrests, only 2 were not local. So locals torched 28 businesses, which eliminated many much needed jobs, and this is going to help their communities ....how??? One dear lady from there said on TV "So now where am I going to shop?"
And of course, the fault lies with the authorities???
I know two policemen from church who were expected to be there last night, as well as a son of my bible study teacher. How much worry and concern must they have gone thru.
I don't know what tonight will bring, but it is far from over
.
So much for that.

I didn't sleep much last night, but I did go to exercise class this morning, then to the store and I am trying to get my family together for our annual get-together at my house. It is so hard on me that last year I said I wouldn't be doing it again this year, but my ds who lives 100 miles away wants me to.............he knows they won't drive that distance to his house.
So I struck out almost immediately. My dd said they are all booked up except for a few hours on Dec 13 between a race they are signed up for and a concert they are going to. My older ds has just recently joined a new band and they are playing that evening....the only time in the month of Dec that he couldn't make it. So it looks like it won't be happening.
I am disappointed, as they always seem to have such a good time together and that does my heart good. But I guess it sometimes happens that families find their own friends and have different priorities.
It seems like such a shame. If I am lucky, I will see one or the other of them, so I will have to settle for that. Obviously the days of our family get-togethers are over.

I'm having a 'down' day and I must get over it.

Time for lunch and then off to craft class.
Mary Lou

Marlene - Hope you get home safe and sound.

Nas - Do they celebrate anything like Thanksgiving where you live?

Mel - Next year, they will stop mail delivery in our area of the city. Maybe that'll get me to walk every day in the outdoors - I do miss the fresh air when I am indoors all day long. Just my luck they will put the mail boxes right across the street from me!

Just wanted to stop in and express myself about troubles in MO. and elsewhere.
MaryLou, pray your son got home safe. I don't understand people wanting to take part in violence. It does not solve anything. If they wanted to express themselves, they could do it in a peaceful manner.

I am off to shop for groceries today. Also getting the china and etc out for Thanksgiving.
Decided the GC are old enough that I will set a proper table for them on Thursday. Fresh flowers for the centerpiece. It will be interesting to see how they react to it.

I am holding my own on the weight. Did not lose nor did I gain.
Leftovers will be sent home with my DDs on thursday. I might keep a little turkey. Enough to make some turkey soup.

My mail box is about 1/2 block from my house. Yesterday, I walked the long way to the mail box. Which was about 1/2 mile. Think I will make that a daily trip.

Have a great day.

Good Morning to all my Spark Friends and before you all disappear, I would like to wish each and everyone of you a most Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving! emoticon Hope the snow in some areas where expected won't ruin the spirit of the holiday.

I think LEE and some others mentioned these looters and destroyers come from other areas. They come up to Canada too!! But usually to a worldwide event when we have a lot of security to round them up. They sometimes also aren't the brightest.

BETTY - Is this the interior design son of yours from California that you expect to arrive? How is he doing?

CAMEY - I kept getting notices to download my Adobe but b/c of all the notices to the contrary, I did not. Well, it ran out - for good or bad - and then couldn't spin the wheel on Spark - so I had Apple reinstall for me. Course they had to go into my machine to do so, but I let them. And every time they do so, they forget to turn on the things they turned off. But I never noticed my sound had been turned off too. And didn't get any e-mails - yikes! But got it all straightened out. I had purchased an extended warranty so didn't have to pay for anything. But it runs out in February. All good things come to an end.

Have a good day!

Mary Lou I am heart sick after watching the events of last night on Fox news this morning. It is heartbreaking. I feel for the business owners that have lost everything...and wonder how they will survive this. My hair salon is in a strip mall and I know how hard the owner works and I would not mind betting she does not have insurance to cover something like what has happen in Ferguson. My prayers are for you and the many people that have been so hurt by the evil done to your city. You will see the good people arise they always do and things will heal and be rebuilt...we have to keep the faith that this will happen. God Bless.

Have lots to accomplish today so had better get on with it. Make it a good day. Hugs and blessings to all,
Dot

Good morning! Our 70 degree day is over and apparently snow flurries are to arrive tomorrow. It's sunny today, though and today is what I have - I'll enjoy it.

Mary, I've purchased on ebay, but never sold there. There are some people who take items on consignment to sell there (I think they call them ebay shops?). They know the ropes and might be able to help you.

Doris, it sounds like you had a wonderful day. Enjoy the concert!

Hope you're feeling better, Elsie.

Nas, click on your "control panel" and check the sound. Yours might have been accidentally muted.

Mary Lou, there are just a lot of "bad apples" in this country and they're taking advantage of the situation - stirred up by the news media. If you asked any of them to explain their stance on the matter, I guarantee they couldn't even give you a coherent explanation. It sounds as if you're some distance from the trouble. I hope you continue to be safe.

Maureen, you made an interesting point when you mentioned not hearing about the "riot.." Apparently we (U.S.) are not the center of the world after all. LOL.

Sorry, Helen. I did watch the honey badgers and thought they were very clever (and sweet-faced) - just forgot to mention it when I came back. Thanks for the link.

Betty, I can "hear" the excitement in your post. How wonderful to have your son with you for this holiday. Life is good when our offspring are near!

Oh Mickey, I hope the nor'easter doesn't get you! The food sounds wonderful and it would be shame for your family to have to miss out. Maybe if you all turn on your fans and aim them east you can blow the storm out to sea!

Camey, my TV is on its way out, also. I mostly watch the TV in the family room, but the one in my sitting room is pretty old. I'll probably wait until Spring to replace it though.

A big hello to Dot, Marian, Barbara, Lee, all the newbies, and anyone else I missed!

Have a wonderful day!

Mickey I miss the old holidays. My dad used to go to the pastry store with me and buy the Ricotta Pie, Rum Cakes, Canolli, Buttergine, etc. Not sure of the spelling. Then we would have lazana, egg plant, meatballs and turkey, with all the trimmings. Today, it is so different, xmas is a ham, and Easter too. Our xmas eve was fish and pizza, etc. Life was so different in the past.

Well, another 50 day. I will take it. Talking about snow for Wed. Not a happy thought when you have to go out. Hope they are wrong like they sometime are.

Want to check out a 32 inch tv as I have an old one so when it goes I will have the new rectanglar one. It is pretty old and all our other ones are gone, so expet this one might be on its way.out.

Wishing all who's birthdays I forgot a belated one and all a happy Thanksgiving.

Mary Lou, even the people of Ferguson know it was outside influences causing the horrible fires and crimes. and yes I heard the Black Panthers were there. I feel terrible for all concerned.
So many lives were ruined. The parents and family, the police officer and his family and
the shop owners and people of the town who just wanted to live their lives in peace.
I hope it settles down. You know it was carried on in NY city, Philadelphia, Chicago and other parts of the U.S. I think those responsible for the looting and fires should be made to rebuild!
I Pray that calmer minds will prevail. I might add that those on the grand jury are picked before anything happens, not cherry picked for a particular possibility of indictment but weeks even months before this sad event.

Betty I hope your son has arrived.

I also pray you and yours are safe Mary Lou.

Hugs,
Lee

I don't know what is going on in this world anymore. Very sad.

I have been so busy. I am suppose to be retired. I don't seem to have one minute for myself.

As soon as I get off here I am on my way to the Airport to pick up my DD and DH they will be here for a week.

Guess I will be MIA for a while.

I will be thinking about you all. Please have a wonderful Thanksgiving and take care of yourself s.

Hugs Barbara.

Good morning everyone - another balmy day, but tomorrow's snow might throw a monkey wrench in our plans for the holiday. Let's see - if we can't make it to our dinner - we will have enough lasagna for 16 people, Italian pastries, a pie, roasted peppers and stuffed breads! I'd be freezing a lot of the lasagna and stuffed breads - that's for sure. DH is dropping the fresh turkey off today as I had ordered it before I knew we were moving dinner.

Mary Lou - I was sorry to see the violence on t.v. last night. It is often outsiders who want to vent anger in destructive ways. We lived near a reservoir back in the 60's and the Black Panthers were in New Haven and they were having a rally. The officials were worried about them trying to poison the water; there were helicopters patrolling, we were told to stay indoors, etc. I hope your son was okay coming home, scary.

Elsie - hope you are feeling better today.

Will sign of for now, have an early morning appointment.

Have a good one.
Mickey

Good Morning everyone,

Mary Lou...I am just sick about the way some folks react...I pray that all will work out for the good and we will all have something to be very thankful for this Thanksgiving instead of living in fear. I remember when we had the riots here in Cincinnati and it is very frightening. God bless you and all the folks there.

My son arrives today and I knocked myself out yesterday to get ready and got most everything done and still had time for tai chi and tap practice. I go to tap class today and then to the grocery to get the fresh green beans and some fruit...I am excited.

Wishing you all many blessings and may we all have a smile on our face...Betty :)

Mary Lou - I don't have all the facts but it is such a sad state of affairs. I still don't understand it all. It's almost like the crowd anticipated this result. Hope your ds got home safely.

There's an element out there that can't express themselves without violence.

Nas - Oh, I'm glad someone at least watched these marvellous Honey Badgers. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. . .!

I watched DWTS as well and guessed Derek and Bethany would be eliminated.

Time for bed now.

Sorry Mary Lou just saw a little of the news live tonight in the middle of DWTS and realized what you were saying last time I posted. This was not on our news up here very much so was not aware. Prayers for all concerned to stop and think about what they are doing. as it won't solve the problem ,maybe only make it worse.

I am crying and I feel sick.

I live a little out of St. Louis, tho I was born and raised there. I am safe, and my tears are for the good people who are suffering at the hands of the few. Business people who have put their heart and soul and their life savings into the small businesses that are now going up in smoke. The area people who are dependent on the local stores will no longer have them, and not all have cars to drive and shop elsewhere. One resident said that the outsiders come in and destroy and then leave. I feel so sorry for her and others like her.

Why do people believe that burning, looting and rioting is the way to express themselves and solve their problems?
There may have been legitimate complaints, but I fail to see how this will improve anything. This will cause more hard feelings and make matters worse. C
My ds had band practice tonight and I am hoping he will be able to get home safely, as some of the main highways and streets are blocked.

Thanks for your prayers.
They are sorely needed.

Mary Lou

Mary Lou, it sounds as if the police/national guard presence is great there and I know they'll do everything in their power to protect the citizens. I don't understand anyone's need to enact revenge - whether they truly believe themselves right or not. Some of them are thugs just looking for an excuse. Hopefully they'll be arrested or turned away quickly.

Sending prayers and do hope saner minds will rule.

Hi everyone - sounds like everyone is very busy these days. It was a mild but foggy day here - it never cleared up and traffic was heavy coming home. Looked like everyone was getting an early start!

Nothing going on here - did some face time with my DGD who turned 11 y.o. today (going on 21!). She told me about all the special things she did in school and got to cut a class and help the principal get out the Christmas decorations. She too is allergic to tree nuts and has lactose intolerance - I don't like to take her out to ear without her mother altho I always have her epi pen with me.

My back has eased off enough that I did my easy exercise dvd yesterday. I really expected to be sore today but I was pleasantly surprised. I will do this one every other day for this week and work up gradually.

Good to see you all posting - take care.

Busy day so far; exercise class, Mahjong, 2 stores and home. Lunch, washed load of clothes and phone visit with sister.
Now awaiting Grand Jury decision, which is due this evening.
Mel, the Ferguson mess is definitely out of hand. Protestors have promised "Hell to Pay"
and no area will be spared. I hope this is mostly just hype. There are not enough police to handle all of the area. But there have been so many threats (promises?) of retribution and
so many outsiders have come in to "support", that almost anything could happen. Police headquarters have been barricaded, a state emergency has been declared and the National Guard has been called up. Outsiders have been coming in from all over. The paper this morning noted that two men have WALKED here from No. Carolina who said they wouldn't miss it for anything. Can you imagine?
I do hope most of the workers will have time to get home to their families, and safely.
Mostly I hope that it has been overblown and will now blow over, but I doubt it.
But nothing I can do about it except pray for the safely of all concerned, and hope that something good will come of this.
My dryer has stopped, so need to fold clothes and then will work on my Christmas earrings or my cards. Have all of the mess out, so must keep at it.
Prayers please.

Mary Lou

Mary, You are never boring..In fact I always look for your posts.
I think you are doing exactly the right thing about your home and new home..Do look upon it as an adventure. No , I have never used e-bay although sometimes I was tempted to do so..I have an antique oil lamp at a consignment shop now and know it is quite valuable but it is not moving..It is difficult to get things sold, but I do hear items go quickly at the yard sales if priced right..Good Luck in the planning.

I had a nice day with Emily. She picked me up at 9:45 and we went to Belk's for she needed some warmer clothes for the days to come as she walks her dog morning and evening and this 70 degree weather of today will not last very long. She found a hat, scarf and gloves all in winter white and was pleased. I found my Isotonor slippers that I wear in the house all the time as my old ones are wearing out. They were on sale and also by using my Belk card I received 20% more off and so a $24.00 pair were only $15.00 with tax..Love my bargains..This is my Christmas present to me....We stopped for a nice lunch at O'Charley's and then home again. I took a good nap.

Tonight is the concert and I will be off at 6:00. I am looking forward to a fun evening.

Everyone take it easy on the holiday and just bask in the pleasure of it all.. for now Love, Doris

We only did 4 miles today as - surprise! - the rain came early. Ahnu and I raced the first 1/2 mile though, so I think that counts for something. It was nice because it seems his not-quite-3-year-old pace and my old pace are pretty well matched. emoticon

Well, my learning curve apparently hasn't improved a bit. I've been trying to find a few novelty buttons for the play mat - such as bagels and cream cheese - that no one makes. Today, I remembered doll house miniaturists make just about anything you can think of - and I found sliced bagels with cream cheese or bagels and packages of cream cheese! I can buy button shanks and glue and turn them into "buttons" very easily. Wow - if only I'd thought of that a couple of months ago. In fact, if I had, I would have also realized I could buy polymer clay and make everything myself. emoticon No. No. No. That would NOT be a good idea! emoticon Well, the good news is the play mat will be completed by Ahnu's birthday - in fact, much of the work I'm doing now is finishing up stuff.

The turkey is in the brine solution - I can hardly wait. Last night we tried a new squash variety - honey nut. Have you heard of it? It looks like a butternut squash, but about half the size and little bit darker in color - and it's much sweeter, like a cross between a butternut and a pumpkin, maybe. Really yummy. So we're going to get more for Thanksgiving, even though we already bought butternut and acorn. Guess we'll be having a lot of squash for the next week or so. emoticon Tomorrow we'll do the pies, and Wednesday the cranberry sauce and breads, and prep some of the other sides. Mmmmm I'm getting hungry.

I have to be careful today - I am about to break my arm patting myself on the back. Last week was the Thanksgiving potluck here in the park and I ate way too much. I still lost a pound. Let's see if I can do as well this week, I am having Thanksgiving with my family.
One of my friends here was trying to talk me out of planning to move next spring. She did not make it, I told her how much it would cost and she said but yeah, it only costs you XXX to live here. My comment - yes, plus electric, water, sewer, garbage, cable and internet. It will still be more but not as much as she thought.
I am happy everyone is doing well, and most seem to be over their colds. Don't anyone else catch one until next year!
I have kind of stalled on my cleaning out project. I have to get some things cleaned off the card table by Thursday so it can go to Martha. I don't intend to bring it back home with me; the only place it has ever been used is at her house.
Have any of you ever sold anything on ebay? I think I need to find out about it. I have some Franciscan Pottery that I do not want to keep and I think that would be a good place to sell it. I sort of figured part of the problem out last night. I have service for 12 except for plates, I only have seven. I think I will take service for four with me and sell the rest. The set I had been thinking about shouldn't be hard sell at the spring yard sale here.
What a boring bunch of stuff to write about. Talk to you all later.

Good afternoon all. I don't know where this day has gone. All I know is that it has been a pleasant day. Talked to my two brothers in England this morning and my DS that lives here. It was fun touching base with the family...the GGC in England are growing rapidly according to my one brother. The baby is now walking and the other one is in school now.Unbelievable how time flies.

I read all the messages and what a great pleasure it is to see Sharon, Jan, Yvonne and Ed all joining us. Getting to know you is great and hope you will continue to post often...many of us post everyday and it has given us the opportunity to become close and to care for each other. Look forward to seeing you here tomorrow. Well, since that time of the year is here...busy,busy, busy with Thanksgiving this week, and Christmas around the corner. I can understand if you are not posting.

My son is hosting Thanksgiving like he and his wife did last year. He cooks the turkey, she did the sides that her family likes and I do the sides son requested. Dressing, sweet potato casserole, gravy and oven roasted vegetables. Others will bring the deserts and what they want. Last year it was fantastic and I hope this year will be the same. It is a wonderful group of people and we enjoy being together.

Still have to get to the store...think I will put it off until early tomorrow morning. Before the rush starts only have a few things to get. Last year I made Cranberry sauce in the crock pot and it was delicious...came upon the recipe today so have to make it and don't have the ingredients. Need to get the fresh veggies also.

I am tired today...think I over did the last couple of days...so it is just good to rest and procrastinate today.

Have a good one,
hugs and blessings,
Dot

Hi all:

Nora, I too misunderstood about the dog. Glad that was cleared up.

Welcome to our two new members. I am Lee from east coast of Fl. We love having you all coming and let us get to know you better. I know you can inspire us

Thanks Dot and Frances. Believe me I do know when to pull back. It has just been a couple of us for 6 months in decorating but our snowbirds are coming back and we too have a notice in the bulletin for help for Christmas decorations. Liz and I plan to go do what we do best the first day while the men set up 4 trees. then we've called on the women to help decorate.
We will have all the decorations out by each tree and feel perhaps it will run faster and more smoothly this year rather than have the women hanging around waiting for the trees to be put up. I did go down and take down and put away Thanksgiving, in preparation for Advent Sunday. (men put up the holder and candles) (hopefully they won't forget). It only took me
about an hour to get stuff put away properly. Liz has Dialysis this a.m. and I get haircut. I only planned to do what I could and turned out I could do it all. Hope she'll be pleasantly surprised.

Got gas at 2.57.9 nice compared to what it was.

I am home and glad to be here. and am relaxing some.

Frances your time with the grandchildren this weekend was precious. I am sure your projects will get done, knowing you.

I am so looking forward to having family here on Thursday. We will go out to dinner but I am cooking Turkey breast to send home for sandwiches. We just like being together.

I do know this year will be harder on some. Just know we care about you and a lot of us know that it does eventually get better. You are in my prayers and may peace reign in your hearts.

Enough for now.
Hugs,
Lee

Good Monday morning! It's already in the mid-60s and no rain predicted until night. I will be out walking as soon as I can. My morning cleaning and straightening is done, girls are off to school and the day has begun. As with everyone, Thanksgiving preparations are the main priority. I also have laundry going, but I will be knitting on a catch-as-catch-can basis. No play mat today.

The weekend got away from me - too much "play" with the kids. Yesterday they actually had me skipping rope! My 11-year-old granddaughter baked bread for the food pantry and needed guidance as it was her first time making bread. She did a great job - and even made cinnamon rolls with orange glaze for us. Yummy!

Good morning everyone. I tried posting the other day, but somehow my post went into cyberspace and never returned. I'm enjoying all your posts. This sure is a busy time of year and everyone sounds frazzled like there's not enough time to do what we need to do. I feel the same way, but somehow it always gets done.

My tree is up and we are hosting Thanksgiving this year. I plan to bake on Wednesday so on Thursday I only have to concentrate on a few items and will be able to enjoy the day. Then comes Christmas, my favorite holiday of the year. I love all the Christmas shows on television, but rarely go into the stores. Cannot stand large crowds so I stay away and do most of my shopping on line. Anyone else do the same?

Wishing you all a very Happy Thanksgiving with friends and family, and for those of you who will be alone, do all the things that make you happiest. See you soon.

Hugs,
Sharon

Again, emoticon I wrote on the 22nd and here it is only the 24th and I cannot keep up with all the posts of yesterday..You all are a busy bunch..

Welcome Yvonne emoticon to this merry site. We hope you enjoy it.

I do not usually write on Sunday as I take that day off completely. I did get into my 'Christmas Closet yesterday afternoon as I keep things there that I buy all of the year and then sort all out right after Thanksgiving day and wrap early so I avoid all that during December. I always surprise myself with what is in the closet...It is rather fun.

Today Emily are going to do a bit of shopping early and then have a lunch out.
I do not need to buy anything but she is looking for some items for herself.

Tonight, Cindy has purchased tickets for herself and me as an early Christmas gift. The Glenn Miller orchestra will be here in Burlington for only one night, tonight, and the performance starts at 7:00...She will be here at 6:15 to pick me up..I think this will be very special and am looking forward to it.

Tomorrow I have a writer's meeting and then Wednesday I will devote to Pies and cranberry/orange sauce. for the BIG Day...I do love this holiday as I see the family all around the table happy and thankful for another good year...I always give a little gift to my hostess, Cindy each year and I found the perfect one at the estate sale I went to last month. She collects the ruby red glass and they had a lovely small round vase for flowers there that I will give to her on Thursday. I so hope she enjoys it.

Well, Emily will be here soon so will close and wish all a good Monday. WE expect 73 as a high today and then it will turn colder tomorrow..

Love, , Doris emoticon

Good morning, everyone. I'm getting a later start than usual today. No jazzercise this week at the SR Center as they are preparing for a Thanksgiving meal tomorrow. I'll do my Yoga Therapy DVD and try to get a Wii Fit plus routine in today.
I'm planning another Thanksgiving by myself as my brother went to Upstate N.Y. to visit his sons and Grandchildren. I've been invited out but would rather stay home and watch the Macy's parade and then football in the evening. I will cook a turkey breast, mashed potatoes, and a green veggie. My 1 indulgence will be a piece of Eggnog pumpkin pie. Saw the recipe on Facebook and it sounded good.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good morning. I want to wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving now because I may not have time before we leave for Las Vegas. We will be spending the holiday with our grandson Jeremy, the young man I wrote about in my last message. We are so proud of his accomplishments. Our daughter and her other two children will meet us there.

Hi from Sunny Florida emoticon

I love to read what you girls share...and it seem like I have the same "issues" with time as you guys do...
Always to few hours in the day to accomplish what I want too.
Well Thanksgiving and after that Christmas ...are the busiest holidays I think of the year
so...It just to try to survive" it all.
I have a big batch of laundry to be ironed and my hubby is going thru major dental work
so that will take care of this day... put up some Christmas lights yesterday with ornaments was really cozy to start the morning :)
Hope you will have a good day filled with blessings

54 When I got up and going to maybe 70 but it is raining and I have therapy. Also a storm coming Wed and Therapy again. I hate going out on days like this. It is pouring now and later Hailey will be going out and I will have to dry her off. I might try making the marshmallows today and Rice Krispies. Yesterday, washed and was just too darn tired as I awoke at 5 for the last two mornings and had to go to church. Still have to get a few things for xmas and then there is the cards and not crazy about that as arthritis in hands fights wth writing them.
I am better off emailing but not all have computers.

Think might have beef stew today, as it is easy and quick. Yesterday, made the fry potatoes, eggs and ham and used pam.

So much to do the next few days...I don't know if I'll have all the time I need. Got to start early, so I'm wishing all you folks out there a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends and loved ones. My prayer at the Thanksgiving Table always includes a reminder about the kids who are out there in uniform away from home, some getting shot at. I remember the names and faces of folks I knew along the way who did not come back and am thankful that I have the opportunity to be among my loved ones.

See you all next week. eat well but wise.

I need to keep my head on my shoulders and think and plan so I can accomplish all I want to do today. This will be such a busy week...my son arrives tomorrow..I have the cookies made and a pot of Italian sausage, potato and spinach soup....Today, I make a lemon pie with a soda cracker crust, get to tap practice and also Hobby Lobby to pick up some cement mix. Then I need to cut out two more pocket shawls that I have laying out, so I can clean up the dining room. I made two pocket shawls yesterday and got them wrapped for Christmas gifts.

It was warm yesterday, almost 60^ and today is warm so far, but the temps are going to drop.

Welcome to all new gals who have joined us and smiles to you all.

Getting here late. No excuse, just a lazy day. Sunday is suppose to be a day of rest and sometimes I take it too far.
I did do my floor exercises and did some walking in the house. But, the rest of the day, I napped or read.

Iris, was that your Grandson who made the presentation and got the reward? If so, you should be very proud. I don't know if that was you talking or you were pasting a commentary from some other person. Either way, very nice.

I have to laugh at my grandson as yesterday while the family was here, I made the remark, that I am almost 80 and I still do not have any Great grandchildren. With that, my 16th year old grandson said, "Don't look at me". That cracked us all up.

MaryLou, the situation in Ferguson is really out of hand. I also do not watch the news.
I read most of it on my iPad. I pray it will end soon and people can get back to their normal lives.

Marlene, hope you the rest of your trip goes well.

Helen, I know what you feel when a problem arises and you cannot fix it. One good thing about the complex I live in, it has handy men for hire. It also has what they call the "Band on Angels". It you need help you can call and they will find someone to help you out. I also have a couple men friends who would help. Then there are my grandsons. Who are not handy, but have muscles when needed. It is good you have your friend Richard.
What a wonderful dream you had. I have not had one like that yet. But they say you will in time.

Jan, welcome to our group. You will love it as we all look after each other. Giving each other encouragement and support. Sounds like you are doing well with your exercise and weight lost.
I am Mel and live in Az. I am still struggling to lose 10 lbs. I have not given up.

Also welcome to Yvonne. Have you been on here before or it this you first time? Come often and stay longer.

Nora, hope you share what you serve at your lunch. I am sure it will be yummy.

Time to close at it is almost 10.

I have a 24 year old gs who has suffered from eczema with the attendant itching since he was a baby. He has seen many dermatologists, allergist and other drs. with very little relief. There are times when his itching has been so bad he has become infected and has even been hospitalized. Once it became mrsa in the hospital. He has it very bad just about all over, but the most embarrassing for him is when his face is all broken out and his facial skin gets so dry it flakes. there is no telling how many drs have said he is allergic to this or to that, and once was even put on a no gluten diet. Nothing has worked, or not for long. He gets very discouraged, and I can't blame him. It affects his work and his social life. But he keeps going, and is in college at present. I feel for him.
It has been a good day here; rainy but not cold. I have been busy just about the whole day since I attended Sunday School, but didn't stay for church. I'm unable to sit that long as my back hurts too bad. At home, I can be up and down, and when I sit I have a cold pack behind my back. that along with a pain pill (some of the time) keeps me perking along, albeit slowly.
Right now I am reading Maeve Binchy's "Quentins" and it is quite good.
So I think I will get along to bed now and read myself to sleep.

I read some but no way can I catch up. I am still in Florida but on the way home; It has rained most of the afternoon and when we stopped at a motel was told we were in a tornado watch. We stopped early as the little ones were getting fussy and my son in law was really tired after the big wedding. He does all the driving, being parents of the bride they stayed last night and cleaned up. Got back to the motel at one am. It was hard leaving their daughter (my granddaughter) but we needed to start home. It will probably be longer because one of my little English great grandsons is allergic to nearly everything and he also gets car sick. He is three and is on a very strict diet because of his eczema eat the wrong thing and he starts scratching and get a red rash. Other than that he is a typical boy and very busy.

Hello everyone,

Mary Lou understand perfectly why you are upset. I am so sorry that things in Ferguson have gotten so out of control and that the media is having a field day. All I can say is that it will be a nine day wonder and then it will fade from the media blitz. This to shall pass and the town will return to normal...praying for that. When the news gets heavy and is disturbing I make myself not turn on the TV for a few days. It is healing for the mind to do that. You just have to give yourself a rest sometimes. Will be thinking of you.

Yvonne, so good to see you posting. Glad you are doing well and hope you will return as often as you can. Hugs.

Lee read in our church bulletin this morning a request for help in decorating the church for Christmas. It made me think of you and all the decorating you do at your church. You are to be commended for doing so much. Hopefully we will have many respond to help with our decorating. I really don't feel up to it this year.

Jan wow! I was impressed with your exercise regiment and can tell you are going to be an inspiration to us on this team. So good to see you posting and do keep coming back.

Helen, from a women that has lived alone far longer than with a husband I can tell you it is sometimes overwhelming. Good that you have a handy man friend to call on to help out. My two sons are helpful occasionally and I am blessed that I can call them when I can't fix something myself. I attempt most things and am lucky most of the time. I pray a lot for help and the Lord always comes through. I thank my Father since I was the youngest in the family and I followed him around when he was fixing stuff. I learned from watching him. It has come in handy over the years. But the older I get the less I want to tackle so you have my sympathy...it might be time to investigate a different way of living.

Hugs and Blessings everyone,
Dot

Nora - just reread some of the posts and realized that I misunderstood - that the dog you 'lost' was the one you were caring for and it went back home. That's what I get for reading too quickly!!!

Awake at 5 am again this morning. Went to church and came home to wash clothes.
I decided to take the canned potatoes and make fries with pam and eggs and ham for lunch.
The clothes are put away, my exercise done and I am ready for a nap

I bought the candy to make the marshmallows and Rice Krispies or the party. Just have no ambition today.

Tomorrow is going to be 70 and today is almost 60. I will take it. But then as aways a tease and we back down hill again. Tomorrow is rain. Would have been nice if it was sunny.

Standing O Award

What a pleasant surprise! Last month, I attended the UNLV Foundation Annual Dinner and was looking forward to hearing the keynote speaker, Hillary Clinton. But it wasn’t Hillary Clinton or UNLV’s President or the Foundation’s Chairman that everyone was talking about afterward. A student who was asked to talk about how donations directly benefit the students absolutely stole the show. The audience talked through the previously mentioned speakers’ presentations—they failed to get the audience’s attention. But from the moment student Jeremy Klewicki took the stage there was silence. And he didn’t disappoint us by opening with meaningless pleasantries. His first words were, “‘Why did you come all the way out here?’ I’ve been asked that question hundreds of times since I came to UNLV,” and he had us eagerly waiting to hear what he would say next.

Jeremy was poised, conversational and exuded positive energy. His content went beyond thanking the attendees for their financial support. He educated us on the fact that although he was at UNLV for the jazz program because he’s a musician, he’s becoming an artist through all he’s learning in the Honors College. Lucky for us, Jeremy sprinkled his speech with his drum playing…it was perfectly timed and appropriate to what he was saying. He executed it brilliantly.

What a treat to experience such a bright, talented young man who delivered the speech that created the buzz of the evening. When I reached out to him, he impressed me once again. He wanted to make sure, like all great speakers do, that the person who coached him got the credit he deserved. So Mr. Daniel Coyle, Honors Advisor and professor of Honors Public Speaking, thank you for the support you gave—I hope you were there to see the remarkable results of your efforts. I’m grateful I was there to witness the genius that is Jeremy Klewicki: musician, artist extraordinaire, honors student and inspirational public speaker.

He received a standing ovation that evening and now The Zen Speaker is honored to bestow the Standing O Award to Jeremy Klewicki!

Good Sunday morning! It's a mild, balmy day here - almost like Spring. I can't wait to get out and enjoy it.

Mary Lou, sorry the link didn't work. If you go to youtube and search for the Kingston Trio, Merry Minuet, it'll come right up. But - glad you don't need it anymore! That is the reason I no longer watch the news, much. I read "headlines" online in the morning - just to make sure the earth is still turning - and I watch a local news channel for about 1/2 hour. The rest I mostly ignore. My criteria is: if it doesn't impact my life (or those close to me) and there is nothing I can do to change the course of events, it is a waste of my time. As someone else mentioned, it's more about opinion than facts, anyway. I refuse to be dragged down by it.

Maureen, Yay! You've kicked off the Christmas celebrations!

Nora, sorry your little dog had to go home - you will miss him. Maybe you'd like to get one of your own now? emoticon

Marian, have fun with your brother today.

Ed, it sounds like you all have Thanksgiving well in hand. It's great when everyone pitches in and there's time to enjoy the day.

Welcome back, Yvonne!

Lee, as always, you are out doing for others. You are so kind and thoughtful. I hope someone is doing for you sometimes, as well. Enjoy the pancakes! I won't be going to IHOP this morning, but perhaps my granddaughter will make some for me.

Welcome, Jan! It sounds like you're doing all the right things. Congratulations on overcoming the sciatic problem. I am Frances, mother of 3, grandmother of 9. I live in upstate New York (where I am at the moment) and in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia. I've reached the weight my doctor recommends, so am mostly "maintaining" now - but the folks on this board are so great they can't get rid of me! emoticon Hope you'll join in and keep us up to date on your progress.

Mattie, you just reminded me I should probably throw in a load of laundry today. (sigh)

Helen, lovely dream. Isn't it nice when you walk around all day with the "residue" of such a pleasant memory/visit?

Mickey and Mel, add me to the list of grandmas who gift money to the older kids. I find it difficult to get teenagers' gifts exactly right - and money seems to light up their eyes. LOL. Works for me.

I'm going to put out the Thanksgiving decorations today - a little late this year as I've been so busy since arriving from Virginia I actually forgot! Then I'll have all 3 kids while my son and daughter-in-law enjoy the gym together. After that, I'm going to go out and enjoy this lovely day!

Have a wonderful Sunday!

Good morning everyone - it is a balmy 42* this morning and no wind. DH is off to a train show this morning, so I have the house to myself for a few hours.

Jan - nice to see you posting and I will probably look to see if I can find the DVD you mentioned; as you've probably notices - a few of us have back issues.

Nora - sorry to hear about the loss of your pet

Marian - enjoy your trip to the Bronx

Lee - we will go on the 'retirement' mini vacation in December - something to look forward to

Helen - about two years after my DS passed, I dreamt that I saw him walking toward the house. I ran to him and he said, ""I'm fine, I'm home." I did take it as a sign -

Mel - I too give money to the older grandkids; we stopped giving gifts to friends, other family members about 7 years ago and make a donation to a charity instead. I sent out a letter to everyone I use to exchange gifts with and asked that they not send a gift and if they were so inclined - they could make a donation somewhere. My DH and I split the amount of money we would have spent as he has a couple of favorite charities and I have one or two.

Time to get a few things done.
Take care.

oops! Just remembered what I had written in my lost post. . .

We had a power surge early one morning Thursday and I tho't I'd lose my mind listening to the ADT Security beeping every 25 seconds. My friend Richard, an electrician, had removed the heavy duty battery and it's connections before, but the darn thing still beeped 5 times every 3 or so hours, but I could live with that. THIS, I could not! Phoned ADT and this time I got a girl who gave me more info. to disconnect, so I went down to the basement, climbed up to get to the box but couldn't unplug a connection over the box! When Richard arrived, he couldn't either so I didn't feel so bad. I think he finally got it using tools and disconnected more things. Then, would you believe, my carbon monoxide detector started to beep! Richard reset it for me and I can't believe how much I am enjoying the silence! I should let you know, ADT would have come out to disconnect everything but of course they would charge for that visit. When I told Richard, he said he could do it for me. Well. . . !

The purpose of this long story? Just to let you know what fun it is for a woman living alone in her home. It's one thing after another. . . and the house is getting older with each year. Time for a change!

Sorry, lost my post! Guess I flicked back and forth once too often. So I'll make this short.

emoticon Jan!

Yvonne, nice to see your post. I love that picture of you!

Ed - I love roll-ups of every kind! So filling. I use lettuce leaves when not ravenous.

Marian - Hope it goes well with your brother today.

Mary Lou - You are not alone about the negative news that keeps repeating on TV and brings one down. It's just as bad here in Canada too! The media seems to feast on it.

Nora - Oh, how sad your companion had to leave to go home.

Speaking of companions, I had a dream the other night that was connected with some TV show I watched that night and in it, my dh unexpectedly returned home to my surprise! I was delighted to see him and when I awoke and every time I think of him, since I get this surge of pure love! It's now all I remember of the dream. . .!

I'm not flicking anymore - Blessings to all!

Good morning. It's a rainy day here in Ga. My name is Jan & I live in Rockmart, Ga. which is about 26 miles NW of Atlanta. Haven't been too active on Spark of late & decided I needed to get back to my logging. I bought my self a Fitbit one about 2 months ago and I love it. Been busy logging on that website. It keeps me moving. I joined our senior center also and am doing Jazzercise 2 days a week with strenght training 1 day. I also bought a DVD called: Yoga Therapy for Back Pain with Emily Kligerman. I try to do that 4 days a week. I had an inflamed sacroiliac joint where I had to sleep in the recliner and could hardly walk. When I started it I could only do half of the 15 min routine for SI joint pain. Took me forever to get up off the floor.
After 2 months I can now do the 31 min SI joint routine along with the 30 min Upper back routine. My core is getting stronger every day. I can even get up off the floor without crawling to the couch and pulling myself up. I've lost 28 lbs since Feb. Yesterday while cleaning I found a Leslie Sansone walking DVD that has 1-5 mile walk routine. I'll be using that now that winter has a rrived in Ga.
Looking forward to chatting and getting to know all of you.
Hope everyone has a good day!!

Keep smiling & never give up

Good morning all: As usual am stopping in before church to wish you a blessed and peaceful Sunday. My friend and I will be delivering some of the Mums to the shut ins today .
After that ED we are going to IHOPS for the pancakes. Might as well scratch that itch. emoticon what a good idea Deanna had for preparing and taking food for the big day.

Yvonne, how nice to see you again. Do hope you will post whenever you can.

Mary Lou. I understand your frustration. I don't think St. Louis is getting a bad reputation.
I think those who are burning and looting are to blame and a lot of those are incited by outside
forces. I do remember when news was reported by journalists and now we have mainly
commentators. News writers were told to keep their opinions to themselves and just print or broadcast the facts.

The sky is blue here and we were supposed to be getting T storms. I'll take it. A bonus.

I guess I'd best quit talking and get my shower etc.

Hugs all,
Lee

We are being visited by the rain that is coming in from the South, the Gulf of Mexico over Louisiana. The weather gal says we should expect the wet stuff all day and into tonight. The dogs will not like the fact that we won't be walking today....neither will I. Had a light breakfast: two Sara Lee slices of Multi-grain bread, 1/3 cup of Egg Beaters as an omelet with chicken lunch meat slices thrown in....oh, year, sugar free orange marmalade on the toast for a little sweetness. And, of course, the 2-3 cups of coffee.

Deanna is talking about making some turkey dressings this morning, freezing them, and thawing them out on our trip down to Aiken Wednesday so she can bake/warm them on Thanksgiving. We'll have a turkey, ham and lots of fixings as everyone congregates at her mother's place on the holidays. Wendy, the sister, will pitch in and the three of us will spend Thanksgiving morning preparing the repast. I have somehow been invested with the job as "carver". God bless, Honey Baked Spiral Cut Bone In Hams that are easy to serve and always delicious. I'm going to have to really work on having only a little slice of all the cakes and pies this year 'cause APPLE and PUMPKIN Pies are my weakness.

Well, no doubt, many of you are already working on the Thanksgiving feast also. Please know that my thoughts are with you all out there on the team and I'm imagining all the various delicacies you are known for. Take care of yourselves.

P.S. I make Turkey Enchiladas a few days after the feast that are truly delicious.
