It has been raining here since in the middle of the night and weatherman says all day rain is a probability.
So if I get out I will need an umbrella emoticon
I don't think I will get out, the town was having a car show today but I just doubt if anyone will show up. I know I don't think I will even if it is just across the alley a half block.
emoticon emoticon emoticon
It is very cool out, too emoticon
I see by the news that around Oklahoma City and east is damage from straight line winds. They also have flooding. No bad wind here, just lots of rain but our town does not flood, I guess it must be elevated?
I have a sty on my right eye that is really giving me fits. Seems like I want to rub it and that is not good. I have on sun glasses now to try to deter my rubbing my eye.
I made brownies for the car chow and I need to get them out of my sight as I am tempted to eat them.

Good sunny Saturday morning! Another beautiful day in this cold north country.

I put Gianrico Carofiglio aside to read The Atheist Muslim.

But I STILL have my vacuuming to do. . .

Morning all. Another beautiful day here on the mountain. My landscapers finally came to start work yesterday and are back this morning. They plan to work tomorrow, Sunday to finish up. Then I will have to make sure I keep everything watered till they get a good start. I picked up more potting soil yesterday for the herbs that will go in pots for the deck. And I put up hooks for the three hanging plants for the screened in porch. Oh, and my iPhone seems to be dead this morning. At least it is not coming on. That means a trip to the closest Verizon store that is 60 miles away to get a new phone on Monday.

Good morning! We had rain in the night and the air smells so fresh and green today - everything is lush. Back into the 80s later and our big 10-day festival has begun, so there will be crowds everywhere. I don't participate all that much but I am looking forward to the huge arts and crafts show next weekend. Might go to one of the parades with the children, also - we'll see.

Leona, I'm taking part in the Beta testing of a new version of Family Tree Maker software. We have to sign a confidentiality agreement, so I can't say a lot, but I will tell you it's MUCH faster and I love some of the new features.

Congratulations to everyone who had a great health check up - we seem to be an outstandingly healthy group. Now what is the common denominator here? Could this little chat fest contribute to our well-being? hmmmmmmm

My coffee is perfect this morning. The weather is beautiful. The birds are singing. Life is good.
I'm going to play with the software program for a couple of hours, then go out and enjoy the day before I wrap it up this evening. I think I have to submit reports on its performance, what I like/don't like, etc. Then I can get back to real life, while waiting for the official release.

I hope each of you has a productive, enjoyable day ahead!

Just saw I have not been here since 26th. I had been getting the 70 and then it stopped again.
So I had to come in through the back door. I have book market it for that reason. Don't know what is wrong and why it happens. Even Comcast is giving me a problem with the computer. Sometime, have to restart. Chrome will say wait or kill. I kill and start again. What a pain.

Washing clothes this morning. Waiting to see if GS wants to go to lunch as we already took GD, he was busy that day.

Betty, you have to remain relaxed when going to the doctor, other wise the bp will rise. I try to drop my hands and relax my legs. It works. I was so upset about the girl mixing up my apt. I had for the same day as dh my bp was up to l60/85, but before the doc came in after the nurse took it, I relaxed in the chair as she told me to and it was l24/50, so it does make a difference. I have a tap dancing record I used to tap dance at home, but never took lessons.

Irene, I pray your results come out good. I was so happy mine did.

Frances thank you for the wishes of success. They take up to 3 to 6 weeks before you hear anything before they email back and some just do not answer if they are not interested.
Been there before with first book so well aware of how it works and rejections don't bother me anymore. But would be nice to have another book out. I might work on the children ones I have as they are shorter. They want novels with 80,000 words or even l00,000. Some are only 50,000, but it take a while to get those words and make any sense. LOL

Walked 30 min yesterday. In a week I lost 4 lbs, so I am happy. I have 2 more to go to get back. Winter put 6 on me with all the holidays. So now, Mothers's Day, Father's day, my gd graduation, cook outs, so have to be careful as doc apt in June and OBYN in Sept. He does not want weight on me for the prolapse, says it makes it worst.

I found the secret to loosing. I eat less, no sugar, no starches. Protein 3 times a day, but I don't always follow that routine. I have nuts with oatmeal for breakfast and I think they fall into that field, lunch always have some chicken, or fish, sometimes a little meat, and supper depends, if hungry open can of chicken, tuna or turkey, with mayo and no bread or just skip the meal. But it is working as each morning I have been loosing points. I still do my bike and hope to be able to walk 30 min a day if weather is good.

Good Morning everyone,

It rained and thundered all night so I am glad that I got my car packed up yesterday with all the stuff I want to drop off for the rummage sale..they are collecting today...

All went well at the doc's office..he said my blood pressure was up a bit and he was a bit concerned, but I told him it was probably because I was practicing tap steps while I waited for him to come in the room...I was sitting there and thinking about the tap routine I am teaching and felt some of the steps were too hard for them.so I was trying to come up with an easier step for them..Anyway...he was glad I am still tapping and said that is what is keeping me young...I think it is the joy I get from seeing my tappers gain new confidence in themselves as they learn new steps and conquer them...

Flo: So happy to see you posting. Welcome back!!

Dot: I keep looking at a rhumba..does is clean well? I too, turn on the TV for noise.

Lin: Good for you for getting out there and walking..Inch by inch, life's a cinch... emoticon

Off to cut out a skirt for Georgia...per her choice. Smiles, Betty :)

Yesterday I did my 44 minute walk. It was sunny, light wind and got to 53 F. Loved the sunshine. I vacuumed the bathroom, living room, kitchen and dining area and mopped them. Tina and I went and got groceries and then it was time for some rest. It was a good day. Hope you all have a good day.

Hello on Saturday . I have been unsettled over the past few days as I was going for my first yearly check at the hospital where I had a mastectomy a year ago,
It was no where near as fearsome as I expected. My ddil and I arrives early , got parking right away. Which is a miracle at a hospital here in uk. As soon as I arrived in the department I was taken in right away, a mastectomy was dine on my good side ! That was it! I had expected questions , examinations maybe a scan, no , the left side is now judged ckear so it's a matter of prevention now in left side, It's wait for the letter or call to say all clear now , but I feel positive,
We were home at the time my appointment should have been, incredible. I felt worn out but happy.
Hello to everyone ,
Msk. What is your name? And can I ask what Shoony Pie is ?
Rosie , did I read that right ? You are at work ? You mentioned an age of mid 80 !
Dot , hope your tv problem is dealt with. I would hate to be without mine .
Lin. As you said you have our tv on for background noise and company as I do
Maureen funerals are sad , I hope you have a relaxing weekend now !
Elsie that was an experience burying the mower and even the truck couldn't pull it out ,
Flo welcome back to the team I am a newbie , but enjoying getting to know everyone .
I know I missed some friends out now, I wish you all a relaxed weekend as I hope to have ,

have had some very long and tiring days this week so haven't posted much..

Did some mowing yesterday, then hit a soft spot that I didn't know was there so buried my mower. Also nearly buried the truck pulling the mower out so now I have big ruts to rake down if or when it decides to stop raining..

Hi :)

Welcome Back Flo, I'm a newbie here and everyone is so friendly and nice!

Dot, I know what you mean about missing the noise of the TV, that's why mine is on whether I'm really watching or not, usually not. :)

Leona, no I don't drink cranberry juice, don't drink any juice really, mostly drink water to stay hydrated.. that and my diet coke.. yeah, I know lol...

Rosie, ooh, I know about knees.. had both of mine replaced and then messed one up by falling, so that one hurts and tends to make horrible noises at times, and can go out of joint. Not eager to have it fixed though, hoping losing weight will help it a lot. Not fun when your knees hurt!!

msk, baking.. wow, I don't dare do that or I will eat it. What is a Shoney pie?

Frances, wow sounds like that program has you glued to your computer. You need to rest your eyes a bit probably.. going out to eat sounds good!

Well, I did walk out my front door, down to the end of the block and around to the alley and down the alley to the back of my house and in the gate. Only had to sit down once on some steps for a short while because my back was hurting, when it quit I got and finished fine. All this without the walker I used for several years due to being too heavy and because of the extra skin and fat on my abdomen, best thing I did was have that removed even if it has been 3 months and I'm not totally healed yet, but getting there :)

That's it for me today, have a good evening, night, day, whatever you have next :)

Lin

Flo so glad you posted...all of us at one time or another take a time out. You are always welcome here. My Mothers name was Flo so you bring many memories with that name for me.

We have quite a few members that are into Genealogy Mel and Frances come to mind and there are others whose names will not come to mind right now. But you will find them or they will find you I am sure.

I am really tired this evening. Turned TV on and no picture or sound. Rebooted my cable box & nothing, it does show d2 whatever that is. Called the company and she put me through the paces trying this and that on the remote. She finally told me I was the third person who had
called with the d2 showing so would talk to the techs...came back and made an appointment
for a tech to come tomorrow between 12:00 & 2:00pm.
Well guess I will go and get ready for bed, maybe play a game or two. I miss the noise of the TV.

Hello all

Flo- emoticon back. You will soon catch up.

Dot- Did you knit the blanket? Nice it is finished. emoticon

Frances- What is the "test"?

Lin-Do you drink cranberry juice for the kidneys? It is supposed to help. emoticon

For those who are new, Mickey is a dear member who recently found she has cancer so all of us send her our prayers. emoticon

I have said it is strange how little things connect. I mentioned the book of poems by Poe and today on Hauntings and Horrors, they had something on Poe and his gravesite. Interesting.

I said to the kids at lunch this week, I have not seen Bobby Jindal for awhile and he was on FOX again. I really like him.
Irene- He is a former governor of Louisiana. His parents are from India.

Rosie- emoticon

Time to watch Outlander. emoticon

Take care,

Hi Everyone - I'm an oldie that keeps coming and going - sorry for that - I just tried reading up on the latest news and seems everyone has good things going on. I did notice that a few of you are interested in genealogy and that's where my most interest is these days. I've had the family tree maker for quite awhile, but sorta left it cause I was just hitting brick walls. Anyway - I hope I can rejoin you guys and I'll really try to read up on everything so I can respond to your posts.
I haven't updated my profile for quite awhile either - but will get on that shortly.
Hope everyone has a good evening - hugs to all

hello everyone, I worked today,

It rained last night, and was quite cool this morning, wet and damp. But, warmed up by afternoon. We have had some warmer days, but, now they are going to be cooler for a while.

I am only about half way to my 80's and it is hard for me to walk, anymore, emoticon with my knee the way it is and my leg went crooked, and have knock knees, according to the therapist I had. I can walk, but, very slowly, and need to do my knee exercises more often like twice a day. At times I just feel like crying!! especially when I am at work.

See y'all later

Helen, they're telling them to take off their shirts to get votes? That's a sure sign the show is gasping its last...

And I am cross-eyed and punch-drunk - I've put in too many hours on this computer! Only 28 hours left before the test phase ends, though, so I'm pushing onward. emoticon Lee, it's worse than being bitten by a bug! I told my daughter today that, when I'm on my deathbed, I will be calling for my laptop so I can enter my own death date/info as I check out. LOL. emoticon

Just popped in to see what everyone is doing - looks like you are all keeping on. When (if) I can get out of my chair, I'll probably go out for a bite to eat. Need to rest my eyes.

Frances - you sure summed up what is happening with Dancing With the Stars. It's all popularity. When the guys are losing, the pros tell them to take off their shirts. That's all it takes to keep them going.

Not much happening. . .did the rounds this morning and will spend the rest of the day reading my book by an Italian author. Real funny but honest.

Good Morning everyone :)

Good morning here, down another few 10ths. I keep expecting it to jump up 3 or so pounds like it usually does when I get close to a goal.. crossing my fingers, I've been trying for that 100 pound loss since Feb. when I had surgery. Of course I wasn't supposed to lose any weight for a while after surgery so I would heal better. I did find when I was first healing I could eat about anything and still lose, was hard to get back to watch what I eat carefully!

Supposed to be warm in the upper 80s today, and warmer over the weekend. Ugh. lol need an A/C. Must remember to drink plenty of water, I have to admit, I have problems drinking enough water. This is not good as I have had two episodes of kidney failure, sure don't want another!

I think I will try and walk a bit today, before it gets too warm. If, I can get my hiney out of the chair..lol

Again, thank you for all the welcomes, and the goodies on my Spark Page, never got any before, of course since my page didn't allow you to access it... and I didn't even know that!

ok, I'd better get going and have some breakfast and get walking before it gets too hot out there for me. Sure wish there was a good place to walk here, but it is all sidewalks and traffic. ugh!!

Oh my goodness...how does one follow that message Lee. Guess I will just DITTO the entire message it is so well done. I am sorry just don't have the time to address everyone. You all must know I care for all of you and wish you all well. Remembering you in my prayers when you have special needs.

Mickey you have a need right now and I think of you and pray for your healing. May you find the strength you need every day in your faith. All the very best to you and yours.

Thank you all so much for your kind condolences have not heard from my brother regarding
a service. I know there is to be one my sister and I will send flowers when we hear.

Lin I was so happy to see your post and look forward to getting to know you. Your weight loss is awesome you can be so proud of that acompliance. We are all here to cheer you on to more weight loss.

Sorry I have been missing the last few days I have finished the baby blanket. Changed the battery in the Roomba and cleaned it up and it charged it last night so I will run it today. I love that Roomba. It does a good job getting under the beds and all the edges. It will save me getting out of breath pushing the vacuum. Now if it could just change the bed linen for me I would be in seventh heaven! LOL

Lee I agree with you on Sally Fields she became one of my Hollywood favorites.

Marlene, the chair exercises are very active and for those of us in our 80's would be hard to keep up with. 70's should beable to keep up if they have no health issues. Just take it easy.
Walking if you can is your best exercise and don't forget to stretch before you go.

Mary Lou don't you push yourself to keep up with the chair exercises. Be gentle with your stretches. Had to laugh at your being so early for church. Time change can really mess us up.

Well that's it for today, have a great one.
Hugs and blessing to all.
Dot

Hello all,

Up early but I did sleep pretty good.

I finished Complete Poems by Edgar Allan Poe. emoticon I am not into poems as a general rule but found this at Goodwill so I thought I should read a classic. He wrote such heavy and dark books and poems. Instead of reading it as a book, I think I will re-read it as a poem at a time and one or two per day.
I am behind four books on my goodreads challenge of 50 book this year. I usually have the challenge of 50 books and sometimes read a few more than that. I better get busy.

Need to get going.
Take care,
Leona emoticon

Good morning. Yesterday was sunny but cold. It only got to 38 F. all day but the sun is getting stronger this time of year so most of the snow is gone. I walked 44 minutes, dusted the furniture and cleaned the bathroom. It was a good day. Hope you guys all have a good day today.

Hello on Friday and welcome to Lin. I think I am the only English member of the team?
I have five sons , one lives with me. Mike , the eldest one Phil lives in Ireland . Recently he stayed with me for a week, he walks daily and got me walking with him . Not his daybreak hours walk but a later 30 min walk. Since then I have been continuing the walks on my own .i live in a small town in Nottingham, where there are some interesting walks to do. I am feeling better for the regular exercise,
Today I go for my first year check after a mastectomy . Feeling apprehensive about it but it has to be done . Enjoy your day Irene emoticon

Hello on a very late Thursday.
It is nearing midnight but I just checked in to see what you are all up to.

Welcome to Lin, our newest member. emoticon .We hope you will enjoy being with us. I am Doris, a widow, a writer of novels and poetry, a mother of three, grandmother of six and great grand of five.
I keep quite busy with lectures, plays, critiques, tutoring a first grader and crocheting for the church group on Wednesdays and at home . I live in a three bedroom condo here in the middle of NC, I do keep active in many events, however the summertime eases off on many and I shall be glad. I need to do many things here at home that I sometimes neglect.

I will not stay long tonight as I should get to bed. I had a long but nice day. Tomorrow is a ;free one. thank goodness.

Mickey, I do hope things are going along well with your tests, meds. etc, etd. I am thinking of you every day..

I will try to check in over the weekend with a note...It was a beautiful day here today. The rain has finally stopped and our flowers are lovely everywhere.. Spring is a wonderful season..
Love and hugs, Doris emoticon

Keep smiling!

Hi everyone...

Boy thanks so much for all the welcomes and the congrats on the weight loss.. it is a struggle at times!!

I didn't know my page was private, I'll have to go check and make sure to put it on public, nothing there I don't want anyone to see.

Been lazy again today, but did order a tracking wrist thingie.. umm what do you call those.. it's not a fitbit but another kind that is cheaper. emoticon

Where is it snowing?? it's been quite warm here and supposed to be HOT by Saturday, ugh, no A/C here except a window one in my bedroom. When it is over 100 I go in there and hide.. lol.

I did a genealogy in College, no, it wasn't all that long ago, I started when I was 48, hmm maybe it was, ugh, I'm getting older than I thought. emoticon

found the emoticons can you tell.

Yes, I plan to start really easy on the exercise as I still have an open place where I had the surgery, probably wait until after I see the surgeon on May 8th. so I can ask him. Meanwhile I keep meaning to walk more but keep putting it off. bad me emoticon

I've always liked Sally Fields also, since the flying nun.. haven't seen all her films but a few. I'm not much of a movie watcher. I usually have the TV on, but am not paying much attention to it as I'm either reading or doing some kind of art. Just have it on so there is noise as I'm alone all day until my daughter gets home, my youngest son lives here too, but he has his own place out in an addition on the garage.

Well, better get off, I still have a home health nurse come in to dress what is left of the wound and he should be here soon.

have a wonderful evening/morning, whichever comes next for you
emoticon

Think I fixed my Spark Page, please let me know.. thanks

Hello all,

I wrote a long post last night and the computer froze. emoticon I am writing this on my "write mail" so will copy and paste.

Lin- Welcome. Congrats on the wright loss. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Last night I watched Expedition Unknown and they were looking for the treasure of King John (I hope I have the right king) and The Wash. I was going to research it today but never did. emoticon

We got a dab of snow, rain emoticon but no sunshine. It is in the 30s now.

The have moved The Five on FOX to 8 PM (Central time) and I miss the earlier time slot. It is on now.

My son-in-law said we should have done him on the DNA instead of his daughter. No one thought of that when I ordered even I had thought about it in the past. We may have our granddaughter send hers back to us and do him. I am sure it will be a long wait.

My son just called and his girlfriend got laid off; she worked for a medical company. My affordable health care went up 11%, I now have co-pays and extra charges. emoticon

Need to get a snack so I can take my medicine. I have to eat something with some of the medicine.

Take care,
Leona

Lin, by your picture I think you have a SparkPage. But we can not access it. You must have it set as private?

You can read my sparkpage to find out more about me. I have two children(grown), four grandchildren (also grown) and eleven great grands. Ages 17 down to 1. Two are one but will be two in July. One more due next week and then one more due in June making 13. The one due next week is in England. My daughter and her husband flew over Tuesday to be there to take care of the three young ones while their mom has a new baby. Don't know if the new one is girl or boy. My granddaughter does not want to know ahead of time. She says it will be a boy because the other three are boys. I am hoping for a girl.

Good evening all:

I too get later and later. However, busy day's seem to take over.

Frances what a nice recap to everyone. How you find time. I just sort of noticed that some of you have been bitten by the genealogy bug. emoticon maybe a wee? Thanks
for asking about the family. All the votes aren't in from doctors for all three of my offspring.
I add Pam as she is undergoing tests for sleep apnea on top of her COPD. Heart is doing fine so far She is like the daughter I didn't have.. Thanks for asking. Sounds like your little guy is thirsty for knowledge.

Helen what plumber don't fined. Glad you were able to have it found and disposed of.

Mel I did manage to do some cleaning today as well. AC/heat pump got a maintenance checkup today and I am glad I bought it as my elect bill has gone down. I didn't do as much as planned but did get more done that the last few days (inside)

Marlene, thanks for the Chair exercises. They look great and are appreciated.

NAS I noticed you've got our T back. I felt you were doing exceptionally well in her absence so hope she can help you have even more progress.

Lin, so glad you are game to join us emoticon And no one has ever been kicked out for joining in.

Mary Lou, nice your DD can now go with you to Dr. I go with a couple of friends and also Brian and Pam when Pam hollars "help".

Maureen I didn't see, but did you knock out that cold?

Mattie Sue, you are so faithful to your walking. You rock gal.

Shaon! Snow! Too early hot and humid here today!

Someone send rain?

I liked Sally Fields as we watched her go from Flying Nun to some very serous acting.

I don't watch the Awards shows anymore as I hate that they've turned so nastily political. I do watch the Country Music Award however.

Having put in my 2 cents. I'll leave and sorry for those I missed. You know I love you all.
Hugs,
Lee

And it's still not "good morning" - but good afternoon. 80s today and absolutely heavenly!

Kilean was already finishing breakfast when I arrived this morning, and was anxious to start his "school" lesson. So I grabbed my coffee and we went to work. He's been so enthusiastic lately that he's asked to double-up and do 2 lessons instead of one. Later, we all went out and collected flowers, greens, etc to make (another) nature-sun catcher. They came out quite pretty so we hung them in the kitchen window. When MagPie gets up from her nap, we'll head to the playground for an hour or so.

If all goes well, the Family Tree Maker test drive build will be ready for download at 3 PM our time - and I may then be tied to my computer for the duration. LOL. Fortunately, I did my grocery shopping and most errands last evening, so I can hang out here as much as I like over the next few days.

Mel, as you can see, I have the genealogy "bug" as badly as you! I'm really excited about the color coding (of all things) that's one of the features of the new software. I'm a very visual person and tend to color-code in many areas of my life.

Helen, you gave me a chuckle about Sally Field. She was never a "great actress," but pert and cute when she was young and I think people related well to her. One of the reasons I never watch "awards" ceremonies is because I think they are popularity contests, first and foremost, with little bearing on true talent or hard work.

Lin, you sound like a very busy woman! You can take your time working up to the exercises you want to do - it wouldn't do to have a setback in your health.

Marlene, thanks for the birthday list and the video link!

Mary Lou, it's a good idea to take someone along with you to the doctor. I haven't yet done that - still relying on writing notes to myself, but am beginning to think it might be helpful. As you say, in the moment you don't always think of all the questions you might ask.

Nas, I enjoyed your "sorry sari" story too. I'm sure you'll find an occasion to wear it (once)!

Sharon, snow?!!! Really????!!!! Yikes.

Maureen, you'll be on-the-go soon, with all the car shows and meetings through the nice weather. Glad you were able to sort out the latest delivery mess.

Camey, it sounds like your manuscript is generating quite a lot of interest. Good luck in making a sale soon!

Earnie, sad about the coyotes. I try to live-and-let-live but there are some species that need to be watched carefully. When I was living in NY and had a big yard, I had several feeders (bird and wildlife) and we often got foxes and an occasional coyote there.

Irene, I hope you're feeling better by now. Early morning nightmares do have a way of hanging on into the waking hours, sometimes.

Leona, I can't wait for you to get your DNA results. Did you go with ancestry or ftdna? Either way, I'm betting you'll get some surprises (most people do).

Dot, any chance you will be able to fly to see your brother?

Lee, I hope your family is keeping well also.

Doris, have things dried out in your neck of the woods yet?

Betty, Carly, Elsie, Rosie... and anyone else I missed: Hope you are all healthy - I'm sure you are keeping busy.

If I don't show up for a few days, you'll know I'm busy with "dead people" - LOL. On the other hand, I'll be at the computer, so perhaps I can pop in frequently. We shall see...

There is nothing like being shamed into doing things. When the plumber was here, he had to get under the bathroom sink downstairs and of course there were umpteen things still stored there by my late husband. Today I threw out the old stuff and kept what I could use upstairs. Amazing what he had stashed down there.

Brought the last of my laundry upstairs and my poor knees are a wreck.

I watched Sally Field in the 1984 film Places in the Heart for which she got an Oscar. Hm. For that acting - or role? Not in my estimation. I guess she was right on when she said "I think you really like me!"

Welcome to the newcomers.
I am Mel and I live in AZ. Mother of 3, grandmother of 8 and great-grandmother of 1.

Lin, it is great that you are joining right in with our chat group. I try to get here once a day, but I do miss a few days once in awhile. Great job of losing your weight.

MaryLou, I forgot to remark that I was happy your family enjoyed Az on their visit. The days can get warm, but the evening are wonderful. It has gotten up in the 90s, but I still have not turned on my AC. It might hit about 82 in my house for a few hours during the day, but I have the ceiling fans on.
Good luck with the Dr.

Marlene, thank for the video. Will have to give it a try for some variety.

Today I am doing more organizing around the house. Working at getting rid of things I do not use.
I tried working on my paperwork for my genealogy, but every time I do I end up doing more work on my family history and did not get rid of of anything.

Have a great day.

Thanks for all the welcome's :) you look like an awesome group here, and just my speed.. that chair exercise looks great, doubt I can keep up with her for quite a while.. I'm still healing from surgery to remove a bunch of excess fat and skin from my abdomen, so can't do any really hard exercising. I was using a walker before the surgery and now I'm not, though I can't walk too far because of my back.
I love painting, digital graphics, and digital painting, cross stitch, crocheting, some knitting, but not for a while. umm oh yes, I read, all the time.. LOL Right now I'm doing some container planting as I can't get down to the ground to plant there. Just flowers right now, but want to get some herbs so we can cook with them.
oh yeah I like to talk.. lol
I have 4 kids, and 7 grand kids and 2 greats.
I love Dachshunds and have 2 plus a Shih Tzu, two are rescues.
better quit before you kick me out for talking too much.. :)

Thanks for the sitting exercise video, Marlene. It is more of a cardio workout than I expected, which means that I really need it. So I bookmarked it. NOW, if only I remember to access it and DO IT! Will be interesting to see if it gets easier to breathe while doing it.

Mickey, do remember that you are thought of often, and prayed for. We miss you and look forward to hearing from you whenever you feel so inclined.

Jean and Barbara (Buttercup), just in case you ever look in on us, this is a reminder that we miss you. Hope you decide to return one day (soon).

Tomorrow I will be going to see my dr for regular 4 month appt. I will tell him about how a piece of toast blocked my esophagus a couple of mos ago, and again this past week. I couldn't get it to come back up or go down, and it really did hurt; plus made breathing difficult. Probably will be getting an endoscopy. My dd, who recently retired, will go with me. I'm glad, as I am getting forgetful and she will probably ask questions I didn't think of. And I don't always remember just what he says. I kind of regret that I am losing some of my independence, yet I am grateful I have someone who is sharper than me who is now available.

My coffee has cooled, so will get a fresh cup and the newspaper.

Good Morning everyone,

Marlene: Thanks for the chair video...I saved it to Pinterest so I can get it whenever I want. The exercises are a lot like a chair dance I teach my tap group. After about a half hour of tapping, we do the chair dance to give them a rest.

Welcome Lin...so glad to have you join us. My son lives in LA...I live in Cincinnati, OH...I love to craft, sew and tap dance. I have 4 children, 7 grandchildgren and 7 great grandchildren...

Sharon: I don't envy you the snow...Hope the sun shines for you today.

Wishing you all hugs and smiles. Betty :)

Good morning and welcome Lin. The chair exercises are so good and may help.
Yesterday I did my 44 minute walk. We got about 4 inches of snow and thank goodness a lot of it melted but still. Snow! I guess since we need moisture any form is better than none. Hope you all have a good day.

Hi Spark friends. emoticon Lin . I'm in Ontario ,Canada, on Georgian Bay a part of Lake Huron. We have had a lovely day up in the high 60's F. (14C) Today has been busy sorting and bagging yesterdays Avon delivery after finding which missing items will be replaced and which will be credited back from my account.
Earnie good luck with the gardening and shrubbery replacement. Not sure about the early wake up call though..
Frances it sounds like you have a new toy to play with in your geneology searches. Have fun. I must start moving more to get the weight going down a little more , now that it is nice have to make more effort to walk. The hours just seem to fly away on me and not much gets accomplished when I want it done. Time to get things organized to get out in the morning to make a couple of deliveries outside of town about 3 miles away, Just a little too far to walk. Enough already Good night and God Bless Sweet Dreams emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon Maureen

Ha! I almost typed "good morning" since that is my usual greeting... but here it is, nearly 8:30 PM and I know I've missed a couple of days besides.

I've been knee-deep (or maybe that's brain-deep) in genealogy lately. So many things going on at once: DNA matches, another "new" family branch with loads of folks on it, and - finally - the new FTM software (beta version) is ready for hands-on testing. I was one of the people selected to take it for a test drive, probably because of my humongous tree, and it begins tomorrow afternoon. I'm both excited and leery of trying it out before it's user-ready - but what is life without a few risks?

Other than that, I've been busy with the kids - the longer afternoons are a struggle for me. We manage, though and that 3-day weekend helps. Lately, they've been engaging in some fascinating conversations - great, serious discussions that involve a lot of very "grown-up" intonations and expressions. Wish I could quote some for you but they probably wouldn't make much sense! They do give me a lot of giggles.

Dot, my condolences on the loss of your sister-in-law. Your brother must be devastated after so many years together.

Welcome to the new members! emoticon Can't wait to get to know all of you! I am Frances, mother of 3, grandmother of 9, living in the Shenandoah Valley, Virginia and in upstate New York. I knit, sew, quilt, read, garden, and do genealogy, among other things - but mostly tend to my 2 youngest grands - a 4-year-old boy and a 2-1/2 year old girl.

I have to move some files to an external hard drive tonight, so will have to stop back in the morning to see what else is happening. Hope everyone is having good health and good times!

Yes, we have problems with coyotes too - but would you believe we are going to be fined if we feed the wild rabbits? And I was just about to throw out some carrots for them. I did that one year and they ignored them. So much for cartoons I've watched. I think they'd rather get their carrots from a garden! LOL

We have coyotes here too. Last year when we got a lot of snow, the coyotes got over our fence and we had foot prints in our back yard. The other day a man came to fix the siding as birds were making nest. He took out two nests. I felt bad but they were eating our siding. I hope they can not get in again. Then we saw some baby moles and dh had to put them somewhere else so Hailey would not get to them.

Weather was raining today but not the soaking they predicted. We did lunch with friends and I had a turkey burger and some carrots. I just hope I keep losing. I have 3 lbs. to get back by July so the doc does not mention the weight. I am still in a size l4, and would like to get back to my l2.

I also have a degenerated disc. Sitting too long makes my legs hurt too. I do back exercise every day, plus the prolapse one. Keep hoping I don't need anymore operations.

When I opened tonight another publisher asked to see novel, so I just sent it. Just forgetting about it as have seen many rejections before the other book got published. Can't cross fingers as can't type that way. LOL

Welcome all new members! Maureen and I are the Canadians on this team who regularly chat here.

Didn't do much walking today as I've been busy going up and down the stairs to the basement doing laundry. It's quite a workout, b believe me! Hard on the knees and back, so needed to take a rest between loads. Also took out my garbage bins - up and down those stairs too. But any pain leaves as soon as I rest up a bit.

Talked to my dear old friend in Oregon who is 96. She told me how much our friendship has meant to her. It was a very difficult friendship over the years but those are usually the ones that last because you have to work at them.

The last load of laundry is coming out right now! Whew!!

Hi, I'm new to this team, I'm 71, and have lost 98 pounds so far. Still have a bunch to go though, so will be here forever.. lol. Can't exercise much because of a really bad back which makes it difficult to walk far or stand for more than a few minutes.. but I move as much as I can and walk as far as I can, then usually take a day or two off to recover.. :) The spirit is willing but the body not so much any more.

Betty, I have two friendís dogs that have been attacked by coyotes. Both lived, but had to have surgery and a long recovery period. Several cats have gone missing in the area and Iím sure that was also the case.

Sharon, it sounds like you are doing really well with the walking.

Welcome Phaas & Daisy.

Nas, I was at a Bible study at a friendís house and several people had brought refreshments. One woman had brought something on a white plate and when the hostess thanked her and commented on how lovely the plate was, the lady said here keep it, ďI hate it. My sister-in-law gave it to me and I have never liked it!Ē We all had to laugh. Perhaps you can give your sari to someone else.

I am not getting the messages again. I get when someone new comes on but nothing else.
I have to try and get in a different way through chrome. I have it book marked but it seems I am still connected to Comcast too and my friend set me up so I can come in through Chrome and still have email from Comcast.

Missed a lot and a lot of things to read, two pages, so right now going out with some one, but do want to wish Leona happy birthday and Dot sorry for your problems. I have an agent I sent the story too and they wrote they received it. Now, I wait. I haven't heard from 3 publishers or two more agents yet.Sometimes, they do not write.

Went to mano yesterday and cancer free so far for 5 years. But they sure kill you with those machines. Then had to wait an hour to see doc. Was hoping I didn't have to see her after yesterday but she said I did. Can't see why when I have a GYN. She is the surgeon.

I lost 3.l in 5 days, just by cutting back, no starch or sugar. Did manage a walk of 20 min but now have been raining for two days and rest of week so that is out, but still do bike. I had gained 6 lbs during winter, so had to work fast before July as see doc. So now only 3 lbs. to get back to where I was when I saw him. Hoping to get down further.

My phone chimed with a text this morning at 5:50 a.m. which woke me. It was my neighbor who was telling me she was designing my herb garden for me. LOL I'm up, have walked the dog and am waiting on the landscapers to come replace shrubs that died last Winter.

Good Morning everyone,

I have to be careful if I let Mitzi go out early in the morning because they have been saying that some coyotes are in the neighborhood...My son, in CA, had one of his cats killed by a coyote...

It is going to be a beautiful day today in the high 70's so I plan to enjoy it.

Sharon:; Good for you for getting in your walking...I used to walk a lot and now I can't last long before my back sitffens up...It is the best exercise and so nice to be out and enjoy the nature.

Marlene: I have deleted that movie now. It was a cartoon and cute...Sorry, I can't help anymore than that. My sister sent it to me...I will have to see if she has access to it.

Wishing you all a happy, healthy day....Mickey...you are always in my prayers...

Smiles, Betty :)

Yesterday was a tough day but I did walk for 44 minutes and stayed busy. I was happy when I asked my pulmonary doctor about walking in increments. I am unable to walk 44 minutes straight so break my walks into 4 and he said that for someone with COPD and my age that it is the best way to go. He feels that if I do four 15 minute walks I will be doing very good. I am spreading them during the day and that is what is helping because it keeps me active. He also told me no naps during the day. He wants me to sleep at night. LOL. If he only knew. It was cloudy, windy and cold yesterday. I am feeling very good today and hope to get some things done. Hope you all have a very good day.

I feel doped this morning but not even had an aspirin.
I slept in a little this morning then woke suddenly from a nightmare. I was in a dreadful state when I woke. I was glad it was a nightmare and not reality but it took.some times to feel ok .
I am going out soon hoping fresh air will blow the cobwebs from my head ,
Enjoy your day Irene emoticon

Hello all,

Dot- I am sorry to hear of your sister-in-law.

I ordered my DNA kits today. At lunch my son said it would make sense to order one for my granddaughter, my daughter's daughter. Her grandfather (my son-in-law's father) was adopted and it may help find some information. We think there is English in him. It is taking longer than 6-8 weeks they said. I know about my mother's side as they are from Italy and my husband was Swedish and Norwegian but as for me I do not know about my father. I know he was born in Oklahoma and maybe had Native American in him. We shall see.

Yes- I still pray for Mickey and do hope she is holding up. emoticon

I want to say to all our new members to the group to please join in the chats. You will soon get to know us emoticon

A measles outbreak in the Somali community here. There are about 20 now. They are hoping to stop the outbreak with booster shots.

The news should be interesting tonight. There was a boat that partially sunk on the St. Croix River; the woman made it to shore but they could not find the man and searched all weekend. His lawyer called to say he was OK I think on Monday. I hope they charge him with the expense of the law enforcement who spent their time searching for him.

Helen- We may get some of your snow. emoticon

Take care,
Leona emoticon

Mickey - You are not far from our hearts. emoticon

The snow has finally stopped falling, so am on my way to the bank, the library, and who knows. . . ?

Hope the day goes well for you.

Sharon, I hope the new procedure gives you some relief. You sure are doing well with your walking.

Doris, I too have Mickey in my prayers.

Dot, so sorry to hear about your SIL. Hopefully your brother live close to each other and give each other comfort.

Keep Going Irene!! love the new name. Keep up the good job walking.

This will be short as I have to return some things I bought yesterday and then take me car in for a 5000 mile check up. Took me over a year to get that many miles on it.

Yesterday it drizzled and was so cold. I walked 44 minutes and I made it to the pulmonary doctor. My breathing was bad yesterday so it was not a pleasant surprise when they told me I had to have a breathing test. I was very surprised when the doctor told me that my test was better than the last one. I took one of my plugs with me to show the doctor and he has now given me a sodim chloride nebulizer treatment that is supposed to liquify the mucus and make it much easier to expel. I sure hope it works. At this time I take it 1 time in the morning. I hope it gets her soon because it comes from a Lincare pharmacy. Hope that you are all well and enjoy your day.

Hello on Tuesday.
My apologies to Leona for belated Happy Birthday wishes I do wish you a grand year ahead.
and much happiness.

I am just near leaving for my Tuesday lecture at Elon but just peeked in for a moment.
Today it is on the Music of Finland and so that should be interesting, I believe..
I will give you a critique later on.

As you may know we have had heavy rains and constant storms here and I must leave the home early to avoid any flooded streets. It is finally to end by this afternoon and then we will be enjoying 80 and over degrees from the remainder of the week.

I am doing fairly well. Some problems with the auto that I must address this week but that is another story too long to share.

Do know that I follow all of you but just cannot write as often. After all of my commitments are ended by June, I should be here more times.

My best to all and keep smiling....Love, Doris emoticon

PS. Dear Mickey if you are reading, I am saying prayers for you every day..I send my love and strength to you. Doris emoticon

Good morning All,

Irene emoticon emoticon Congrats on keeping up with walking. Sounds like you had an emotional week but got on a better footing. Forgiveness is difficult and it will take time for family to trust again.

I could nor fine a message I know I wrote last evening. Guess the iPad ate it. This morning it desided to post the Emoticons...weird! Anyway pulled my message back so I could write a little more.

My brother in England called me yesterday to tell me his wife Pam died. She had lost all mobility and was recently moved to a nursing home. They were testing her for Parkinson's. He had visited her in the morning and left when lunch was served. She was 90. They had been married for 70 years no children....so he is very alone now only has his brother in England.

That is all my news. I am keeping busy and my baby blanket is coming along have 3 more squares to make and can put it together.

All the best to all,
Dot

I walked to a local cafe today , There is a walking group who go there after their twice a week walk. I am a social member, I walk to the the cafe and back , about a mile in total. All uphill coming back. Maybe I can join in with the walk later.
Keep going Irene emoticon

I tried to get the link to work for crochettalk but it will not. The cover, I would call it a very large afghan that covers a bed. It is really pretty and creative. Sometimes the link works.

Take care,

We drove to Salem this morning and bought a washing machine. Ours died yesterday after many years of faithful service. Bought a top loader this time. Went out for lunch afterwards. It was almost like a date. Kinda nice to spend a little time together, away from all the pets, for a change. We don't do that often enough.
