Another cold and gray day down here-drizzly most of the day. We need the rain so not complaining-I am not sure how much we got over the past 48 hours. It is rare that we get a lot of rain in the winter so will take all we can get.
I had planned to clean hose today but had unexpected company so didn't get it completely done but the living room, family room and dining room are done along with a load of laundry and the ironing so all was not totally wasted. I will finish it up tomorrow and get Abbie packed up and start putting our things in the suitcase.

Darla -Thank you for the kind words. But, I think you misunderstood. I am not divorcing. I am talking to an Escrow company as I am buying a business. Things are going well for DH in the program and he is following it very well. I am very proud of him.

I got the paper work today and signed it and faxed it back. Everything is moving forward with the business and I am really excited. Cleaned the fireplace glass again and rearrange the logs the right way and cleaned the fireplace also. So, one more off my list.

It is overcast today and drizzling so just hanging out at home. Hope that everyone is having a great day.

Hello Everyone,
Sounds like you are pulling all your life and things you need to get done together Sandy! I am sorry you and your husband have decided to divorce. It was really hard for me to come to that decision with my ex husband too. I still had little kids my son was 2 and my daughter was 3 but he drinks a lot too and was going out drinking and talking to other women then coming home drumk and fighting with me and getting real physically abusive to me and my kids and I just coudnl't handle anymore. I was 21 and I jus task him to sit down and talk about our marriage and he refused and he was leaving again and I just told him to give me the key cause I didn't want him there anymore. We fought for several months until he had an affair and moved in with her and by that point we were both ready to divorce and go on with our lives. He has never been a big part of my kids lives and never called to talk to them and still never goes to see them even though they are all grown up now. I can't make him be a Dad. It hurts my kids so much that they don't like to talk about him so we find other things to talk about and do other things. We have lots of friends and some family that is supportive to us and so we are good! It was hard for me to raise them by myself but someway somehow and with he Grace of God we made it! They are both working and been at their jobs a long time and my son got married 3 years ago and my daughter had my granddaughter 6 years ago and is not married but has a boyfriend of a year that she went to high school with so they are doing great! I have tried to date and been proposed to a lot but just never felt like ti was the right man for me or my kids and now I am almost 50 and kind of like just living alone and being able to just go and do what I want and all I need without worrying about a man! I am not sure I would ever remarry. Just been divorced for 28 years now and just very hard to find a good decent man to even date. maybe someday! so good luck to you and your husband both. I know it will be hard for a while but sometimes divroce is just better for both people. Take care of yourself Sandy!

Hope everyone else is doing good and I was just freezing today so cold here and I lost the remote which is tiny to my air cond./heater and craweled up on achair and realized it was only 55 and on air condtionier! So I switched it to heater and turned it to 75 an it finally got warm in here just real cold outside;. The weather here has been crazy! 25 and 25 two days then the rest of the week 60's and 70's so crazy! Hope everyone is doing great . Love Darla

Taking every day as a gift from God and being so thankful for my kids and my very funny granddaughter! Each day is a new day and I am thankful for it.

Worked on my "To Do List" today. I started looking into the LLC and I got so confused that I talked with the Escrow company that is handling it who offered to to it but, they wanted a thousand plus to do it. So, I sung my song to them and they are going to do it for $ 600 total. Now, that is off my list of things to do and I don't feel rushed. Plus they will get all back in time to close. I was able to get to the store and change the beds. My SIL even left $ 200 for food on the side table. I called her and thanked her but, told her it wasn't necessary since she has been helping any ways. She said she wants to make up for things that she should of done for us a long time ago. I just told her there was nothing to make up for as you did nothing wrong. She said that I was being to kind and that she will see me in 2 weeks. I think I know what she was talking about - and that being long story very short the very last time she came up she had just quite drinking and was in a bad mood , to say the least, and we got into it. She said called me a few names and said she would never return to this horrible state again full of bums and dogs. So, we have talked since then and everything has been fine. I don't hold anything on anybody especially under those conditions and I wanted to be the bigger person and just move on. So, any ways I did a fee more on my list and was happy to get them done as it started pouring down rain. I did treat myself to lunch today . I stopped in to see my girlfriend at the restaurant she works at. She works in the bar area, so I had a cup of tea and soup since it was a cool day. She ended up paying for it. So, I left her a nice tip - the amount of my lunch plus the tip. I had a really great day. I am now sitting in front of the fire place with a cup of decaf coffee and watching my favorite TV show while listing to the rain. I just feel really relax.

Hope that everyone has a wonderful day.

New survey shows winter Mexican habitat at smallest on record. Genetically-modified crops in the corn belt is the primary culprit behind the precipitous monarch declines over the past 3 years. At least 167 million acres of monarch habitat has been lost since 1996. www.startribune.com/lifestyle/healt

Sandy enjoy the next couple of weeks. I am sure your SIL has been a great help but it is good to just get back to "normal"-whatever normal is! Hopefully things move forward and yu get all the things accomplished you want to in the coming weeks.
Sheryl I know you usually are a bit warmer than we are. The temperature has been falling all day here-no sunshine and rain off and on. If we were further north I would say it looks like snow! I know in the panhandle that they are having some awful weather-sleet and they say it will likely ice tonight. Makes me happy to be in central Fl.
We were supposed to go on a luncheon boat cruise with the boat club today but it was cancelled due to the weather. We all drove to the restaurant instead. I think there were about 48 there-12 at each long table. I think they were happy to have us for lunch as the restaurant had very few other patrons.
I went to a thrift store afterwards and picked up a necklace to wear on the cruise. $7 was more in my price range!!!

@ Darla, I live in Florida about midway down on the Atlantic side. It is beautiful, I live in paradise.
Another wonderful hike today, We had an outside meeting (love those) at one of our State Parks right on the ocean, afterwards we took a short hike 30 minutes, through the red bay forest. These trees are very similar to the bay leaf you use to cook with in face we cook with it all the time and also smoke with the wood. Nothing like smoked fish.

Pat - that is wonderful news. I bet DH is feeling much better about that now and you must feel really relieved.

Well, SIL left today to go home for a little while to check on things at home but will be back in 2 weeks. So, I have the house to myself. It really feels good. Just been so busy with visiting and handling everything that I haven't had any real me time. Gail, answer to your question is i close on the business Feb. 6th. I am working on the LLC this week which has to be done before escrow can close. I will be spending the Super Bowl at home as I don't want to be out driving with the drunks on the road. I could go over to my Aunt and Uncle's but even they agree and understand. It is nice to have my house back and to have no one here and just to relax. I have a nice "To Do list" for myself and that it it organize to what has to be done first. Started working on it today right after I dropped my SIL off at the airport.

It is suppose to rain today but, so far it hasn't. It has been cool but not like back East or Mid west. Could you guys please send some snow our way and stop hogging it all. HA! I am sure you are all tired of it by now. Take care and stay warm.

Hope everyone is having a good week.

I think we are still in "shock & awe" phase with the news yesterday! Hard to believe that finally things are looking up. I do know that Bill has felt better since the first of the year than he has in a couple of years. Even with the surgery he has felt good!
He was up by 7 am to go to coffee and donuts with Sonny. They do enjoy this every Tuesday. I slept a little longer but was up by the time he returned a few minutes after 8. Abbie had to be at the groomer by 9 so ....it was up and get around for me!
After I dropped her off, it was back home and I made some phone calls-got the newspaper cancelled while we are gone and called to be sure my credit card company knew we were traveling. I always try to make sure they know when we are on the move! I took our monthly amenity fee check to the office and turned In the key to the storeroom and filled out the form to let the office know we will be gone for the week and if there is a problem who to contact. All these little things take time! There was an ROC meeting of several of the Mid-FL ROC communities this morning at 10 and it was at our park so I attended that. They always have a speaker and they deliver the news of what is going on in Tallahassee - lets us keep up with all the new things our legislature dreams up that we have to comply with!! It was almost noon before I got out of that and when I got home Bill said Abbie was ready to be picked up. She is just too cute when they get done with her. It will be a lot easier for Barb to care for her with the hair shorter-less mats.
I worked out laying more things out that I need to pack today and did some ironing. Still trying to decide exactly what I will take!!! We had a birthday party to attend at 4 today (another meal out!). There was about 20 of us there. A nice time was had and think Nancy was happy so many came to celebrate with her.
I am glad we aren't traveling north-what a mess in the south and a lot of these folks are true southerners who do not know how to drive in this nasty weather. We are to get rain later tonight and then get cold again-high of 55 tomorrow. We hit 77 today!
Gail sounds like you are still in the deep freeze. Do be careful when you are out and about. Sounds like you think that you are winding down on cleaning out your house and now ready to do some things to bring it up to date. How exciting. I know you are getting ready to head out too-please enjoy the warmer weather and relax.
Pat

Good Morning:

Well, it's now -14 and it's supposed to get colder. They closed the schools in town and all over the area. Yesterday I ventured forth to the Half Price Book Store with 8 boxes of music scores. They were going to give me so little I just sold two boxes ($42) and returned home with the rest. I decided to give Travis a shot at selling them. There were about 20 opera scores and the complete piano works of Schubert...all in "like new" condition. Actually, I don't think any had been used.

Travis picked up 6 boxes of scores from me yesterday and told me he was mistaken about how much I made at the last auction. It came to over $3,000. Think I'll set it aside to redecorate my house; I'm getting closer and closer to emptying things out.

Stay warm and safe everyone,

Gail

Pat: I'm over the moon that Bill is cancer free. Let him know that I am so happy for him.

Enjoy each day.

At last-some GREAT NEWS-DH is cancer free. Today was his visit with the urologist who did the surgery and he delivered the news-told DH he is one lucky guy. He is in the 1% who get a cancer free diagnosis after removing 2 tumors (they were on the neck of the bladder). It is hard to believe after all the bad news he kept getting that finally things went his way. The Lord listened to all those prayers our friends and family have been busy sending to him.

Did I tell you we have a new Rural King in town?? It hasn't officially opened-that will be Feb 2 but a soft opening is going on and it is getting lots of traffic. We stopped in yesterday and finally found Bill a lightweight jacket. I can't believe how hard it is to find one down here. I may have to return to purchase one for me as I haven't had any luck in finding myself one. Most folks down here have never heard of Rural King but it was in Vandalia for ages-at least back in the 70's for sure maybe longer. I remember buying the boys little farm toys there.

We were still warm today (low 70's) but it has been overcast most of the day and it is damp out. I guess the panhandle might even see snow flurries tonight! Glad we are further south.

A new Chinese/Japanese buffet has opened where our old Barnhill's was. They have gutted the place and it looks awesome inside. Barnhills had a great buffet when we started coming down here in 2000 but they let it go to pot and by the time it closed a couple of years ago, it was downright nasty inside. Food was good and price was reasonable so we will be returning. They were busy so that is good-we need some new businesses to take the place of ones that are closing! We are losing our J C Penney and Target stores at the mall so wonder if they will be able to find someone to replace them. Our mall is going to be a ghost mall if they don't get some new tenants. It was just sold at auction the end of the year. Not sure what the new owner has planned-nothing has been published on that yet. We hear that one of our Publix stores is to close in the next 2 years and our Wal-Mart is to close in Feb and that means we will have to drive at least 15 miles to go to one.
Darla sounds like you are quite a busy lady. Glad to hear that you are making new friends. We have made most of our friends since we moved down here. We have a few from our camping days who still winter in Florida.

Hello Everyone!
Sheryl- Wow what a great hike! must be pretty there! Where do you live? I live in San Antonio Texas and it is cold here today! We had a cold front come in last night and it is really cold usually not like this.

Pat- I always enjoy reading your posts! You and your husband are so active and busy with your friends! I am too! I have a lot of friends but most of them live in Oklahoma where I am from. I have not made many friends here in SA but am making some really good friends in church so that makes me happy! I have tons of family! Over 200 people in my Mom s side of family alone and my ex husband has big family so lot of people related to my children but they sure stress me out. so I finally just stop talking to the ones that stressed me out the most. I have to take care of my family by myself and I have my hands full as a single mom with 2 grown children a daughter in law and a grandbaby! Hope your husband is feeling better!

I have not been getting any sleep and got real stressed and overwhelmed and almost ended up in the hospital. Normally I can't get a hold of my psychiatrist and she never calls in meds for me and it was a miracle they answered the phone, got me to her nurse and she called in meds and my son picked them up along with water for my cpap machine and even brought me a bacon cheeseburger ,fries and a coke! I have a good son! He is a sweetheart most of the time! lol So took them and finally crashed sat night and got 10 hours of sleep! Went to Sunday Scool and Church, took a nap and then slept some last night but not all night. I think I Have been doing too much between all the doctor appts I have and my church is wonderful and has a lot of women's activities I have been going to and it has wore me out so I think I may have to just say no to some things.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day! :)

Taking every day as a gift from God and being so thankful for my kids and my very funny granddaughter! Each day is a new day and I am thankful for it.

I was determined to get my book finished and I ended up reading till almost 2 am! Not a wise move since we were going to breakfast at 8:30 but at least I don't have to worry about not getting it finished before we leave now. I am hoping the sequel that I have on hold will be available before we leave so I can read on it if we have leisure time.

We were up by 7:30 and actually Roger & Ruthie arrived by 8:15 so we were on our way by 8:20. Vicky & Sonny and Bob & Faye also went. We went to Rae Rae's. 1st time for R&R and B&F. They liked it. Bill had called ahead as it is a small place but today we were early enough it wasn't a problem getting in. After breakfast, we stopped at the new Rural King that actually has it's official opening Feb 2. They are in the old K-Mart and it is huge in there. We spent a couple of hours looking around. I found a nice light jacket for Bill so have that taken care of for the cruise. I still need one for myself and if I don't find something soon, I am going back and get myself one just like his!!!!! Vicky & I found a cute cat bird bath that we thought would look nice with all the bird houses we have along the fence so we purchased that. There is just so much stuff to look at there and lots of things for the yard so I am a happy camper!!

We got back home about 12:30 and R&R headed on home. Bill's tummy was acting up and he needed to clean up. While he did that I went up front to help Mary-she was weeding under the roses when we came in. She refused my help but told me to stay and talk to her. She said she wanted to do it to make my load lighter. How sweet.

Bill was dozing when I got back and said he felt better after cleaning up and getting a nap. I think it was the chili as he had a bad night-acid reflux. He has the most sensitive stomach.

He dozed more after I got back and I read the newspapers and cut out coupons. He had started a load of laundry while I was gone so now I have more ironing. It just never ends.

Later we went out to move the plants back outside so they could get some sunshine and I could water them. They haven't been watered or had any sunshine in about a week. We are to cool back down again on Wed but only into the 40's so think they should do ok. Might cover the tomatoes-will wait and see. We have lots of little tomatoes on the vine so hoping they will ripen-they are soooo good.

While we were out doing that, one of the residents with a shih-Tzu also named Abbie came by with her little granddaughter. Little Abbie is an imperial and only weights about 6 lbs. She looks like a little puppy. She is also very timid. We have told them to leave her with us once in awhile and we will see if we can't change that. Our Abbie played with the GD. She just loves kids anymore.

We had leftover vegetable soup for supper and later some strawberry shortcake. Even Bill said it was great the 2nd time around.

Bill goes to the urologist tomorrow and we will get the results of the biopsy taken when he did the surgery. That is it for dr's for a bit.

We hit 71 today and supposedly we are to get to 77 tomorrow. Rain is to move in with the next cold front and cool us down into 60's to low 70's for Tues and then back to high 50's for Wed. BRRR again. Bright side as we leave on Sunday-high predicted for 80-maybe the warm weather will still be here when we return.

Gail we mainly play Hand and Foot with our friends. We used to play pegs and jokers but it gave way to H&F, Hopefully you can get some of the clothes done, but if you are still losing, I would not invest a lot of $$$ doing that.
I am in a holding pattern-gained over the holidays which was all my own doing so no one to blame but myself so now working on losing that-why is goes on so much faster than it comes off is beyond me but that is how it works.

Pat

Hello Everyone,
Well I have not been doing good this week. I am usually more on the depression side and have not been manic since I was in my 20s and I ran out of my sleeping Pill and also out of my water for my cpap machine and had no money to go get them and boy I went from sleeping about 10 - 12 hours a day to boom up for 3 days in a row! Finally my son paid for my meds got 3 gallons of distilled water and even a bacon cheeseburger, fries and a coke and brought it to me yesterday and I went to bed at 8 and slept until 6 am ! I feel so much better! I had lots of my Christain friends praying for me! then got up and went to Sunday School which was packed and then church and it was packed today! We had 7 Baptisms! it was a short serice but so good! Got home and took a nap! I feel so much better! Bipolar is so hard on me sometimes! My Mom and Dad and all 3 of my brothers are mentally ill. Mom and Dad both took meds but it was a long time ago and a small town so no psychiatrit just local dr which was not good! overdosed them on presctirpton drugs but my Dad died of rare blood disorder in 1975 and my Mom remarred and fainlly left him in 2005 and I moved her to Okalahoma and she passed away Feb 6 2011 and my ex mother law passed on my gd 3rd birthday right before my Mom. and I bured a bunch of friends it was just too much but I have made it ! Love my new church and making so many friends! Was Dating ralph but he was abusive and I have a domestic violence case down town with pics. they warned him to stay away from me and my brother even warned him and he still showed up at my door last week. scared me to death but I talked to the p9olice again and if he does it again they can gethim for criminal trespassing. it was over 6 months ago! I have moved on ! I am not dating but have a wonderful christain man who is a good friend at this church but we are just friends but got into a fight and I was crying and praying over that and I think we are okay now. he was not there today but I think it is okay now. So blessed by this church! Take care everyone!

Taking every day as a gift from God and being so thankful for my kids and my very funny granddaughter! Each day is a new day and I am thankful for it.

Good Morning:

Brought another huge plastic bag of stuff over to the thrift shop yesterday and packed up my "fat clothes" to store for a while. I cannot decide whether to have them altered; it would cost a fortune to bring them to the tailor. My alternative is to get someone from the timebank to do it. I'll have to explore that. There was a woman on the east side of town who was great and did some work for me about 5 years ago. Wonder if she's still active.

It snowed a bit last night and it is supposed to warm up today. The past two days have been fair, cold and very windy. It was so windy that the walk was covered again with snow since the wind so forcefully blew it around. I did a bit of shoveling just on the sidewalk so people don't kill themselves. Tomorrow is the deep freeze and I'm not looking forward to it.

Hope you are all well,

Gail

Val: Hope the upcoming week goes well for you.

IMREITE and Sheryl: What are you up to?

Pat: What game of cards do you play? How is your weight loss coming? Still losing?

Darla: Good to hear you have such a good time at church functions; how good it is that the other members are so nice.

Sandy: Wonderful gift...wonderful. And I'm delighted to learn your DH is on the mend. Sounds like he will finish the program. Good for him. Depression is very hard to deal with. Any new developments with the business?

Nan: Haven' t heard a word about OHIO. You guys in the deep freeze? Have you been getting out?

Edited by: HARPLUTE at: 1/26/2014 (07:06)
Enjoy each day.

We finally have warmed up just a bit. We got up to 67 today and it was nice and sunny so felt good with just a vest on when I walked.
We had our annual park chili cook off this afternoon. There were 14 entries to judge. Afterwards, actual bowls of chili were served and there was cornbread to go with it. The boat club sponsors this event every year. They do several things during the "season" to raise money. They donate all their earning to help maintain our marina. Over the past several years they have donated over $5,000. Helps to keep our maintenance fees low which is a great thing.
After this event, friends came back and the 8 of us played cards. Sorry to report the boys mopped the floor with us.
Sandy so good to hear things are looking up. What a nice thing for your SIL to do. I once was gifted with cleaning when my DH was ill. It was such a nice gift. Made my life a little easier at the time.
Those of you in the really cold weather, please do not take chances-be safe.
Pat

Well, saw DH this morning and he looks good. Bored and wants to get out. He is very sorry for everything that he has put me through and wants another chance to make things right. I told him about the business and that we will take things one step at a time. The first step is to finish the program and get well. He agreed. It was a good visit. Afterwards I had brunch with my Aunt and Uncle and filled them in on what has been going on. We had a great time and it was great to see them both. They are happy that I am going on my life and that I have the business to keep me busy. I ran a few errors and then came home to do some house work. But, by the time I got home my SIL had called a maid service and they had done all the cleaning for me. I was so surprised. She wanted to do it since she is staying with me till DH is better. She is going to leave and then come back. But, still felt that she needed to do it.

Gail, I feel for all of you back East and Mid west. You have been getting hit with the worst weather the past few years. But, this winter has been the icing on the cake ,so to speak. Please everyone stay safe and warm.

I love you all, I think of each of you every day and I hope that each of you is having a great weekend.

Good Evening:

It's been bitter cold yesterday and today and it's only going to get worse. By Monday wind chills will be between -35F and -40F. Oh joy! I don't think I'll be venturing forth till after Monday. It's just brutal out there.

Travis came this morning and took a van load of things for the next couple of auctions. We'll see how things go and if I can have him over next Friday. If not it will have to wait till I get back from my trip. Frankly, I cannot wait to go.

Wishing you all sweet dreams.

G.

Enjoy each day.

Gail I can't even imagine getting out in those temps. I think I am freezing when we get below 50! I guess it is all in what we get used to. At least you are going to get to thaw out when you go on your cruise. And by the time you get back it will be another week closer to warmer weather. Maybe the pattern will have changed by the time you return (finger crossed for you). Sorry that they spoiled the look of your blouse. Sometimes it is just easier to let things go-as you say life is too short for petty things.
Sandy so glad you have found a business to work in. Since your real estate business has stayed strong in your area it should do well. It is good to know that your step-son is so supportive and loves you as his mother. I think that is so important to have a good relationship with your spouse's children.
I was happy to get the news today that my stress test was normal and I have good blood flow. Hopefully won't need to repeat that anytime soon.
Yes, Gail, I do go to the dentist more often that I used to which was the every 6 mo but for some reason I develop tartar more than normal even though I have implemented all the recommendations of the oral hygienist-oral B electric toothbrush, water-pik daily and flossing! I wonder if one does too much and it enables the plaque to build up or what!
I went for a haircut this morning so that is done and I made an appointment for Abbie for a haircut next Tues. I want it easy for Barb to care for her while we are gone. I would have waited a few more weeks except for that. I don't mind doing a lot of brushing but don't want Barb to have a difficult time caring for her.
Still looking for a top-that is my main agenda in the coming week.
Pat

Dang but it was cold yesterday. The wind chill was -15 F and it was mighty unpleasant. I hear the wind blowing now and it's 1F but with the wind chill it feels like -15F again. Travis is coming this morning to take another carload of stuff. I want to get things ready to pack and will start this weekend. Hope I finish up too. It's all summer stuff so it won't interfere with what I'm wearing now.

I went to 2 thrift stores yesterday and picked up a pair of shoes and two black tops that I can wear on the cruise. I also picked up the stuff from the tailor. One of the blouses had a cross over VEE in the front that I wanted them to tack down. They said it didn't look right so they sewed it down. The problem is that the way it was done it totally obliterated the draping effect. It looks like a seam. I didn't say anything then and I'm wondering if I want to bother taking it back. The old me would have been on it like a flash, but I've learned that sometimes it just pays to let things ride; life is short. The trousers came out great and the other blouse is fine.

Sending you all hugs,

Gail

Val: Glad your friend at work saved the day.

Sandy: Mazel Tov ...congratulations on getting the new business. I wish you lots of success. Also glad your DH and DS are so loving and supportive. That's what life is all about.

Pat: You go for a cleaning every 4 months? That's quite a bit. The norm around here is once every 6 months. Do you have dental insurance?

Sheryl: Just like you I count my blessings: a roof over my head, food in the fridge and clothes on my back. That plus the love of family and friends makes life grand.

Nan: I looked into the book you just finished and saw that it wasn't a mystery. I may seem very shallow but mysteries is all I've been reading for the past couple of years. My graduate work was in French and Italian literature and I've had years in the classic tradition. When Vic got sick I just wanted escape reading and mysteries fit the bill. I don't like to read or watch movies about heavy topics that deal with reality. It's still too much for me to handle. I can't even watch suspense or horror movies. The only dramas that attract me are the heartwarming ones that they show on the Hallmark Channel.

Enjoy each day.

Things are moving along well. I had the handyman out yesterday and he put in two new lights in the garage and the light in the guest bath. I had a lamp in there till I got the light put in. SO glad that is up now. Went out with a couple of friend and SIL the other night for food and drinks. I don't drink except maybe one hard drink or a beer. Any more than that I get a bad migraine. I had 2 as I was having a good time and was eating a lot. While that didn't matter to my system as I ended up with a migraine any ways. I am feeling better today but, wasn't the other day. I got to talk with my son today for an hour which was wonderful. He just wanted me to know how much he loves and appreciates me. And that he is behind me all the way and he is very proud of me for doing what I did and taking a stand. That made me feel real good. It was the best talk we had in a while and at the end he said " Mom, I love you very much and will be up to see you soon." He maybe my step-son but, he sure feels like my own.

Well, I bought a sign post business. He has excepted the offer and we have started the paper work. What the business is - you know the For Sale signs that the Realtors hang their signs on. That is what I will be doing, well I will have someone helping me do it. He has a guy that helps him now. I will keep him on till DH is well enough to work. I'd have our son help but, he is working already and don't want to take him away from his job and friends at this time. If I asked he would come in a minute.

I am glad to see that everyone is doing good and keeping busy. Gail you have another cold snap coming, so, please stay warm and stay in. No going out in nightgowns to get neighbors newspapers, just don't need you sliding down the street, stairs, or sidewalks any more. HA! emoticon

Hope that everyone has a great weekend. I will see DH Saturday for the first time.

I am none the worse for wear today. Had to get up early this morning and be at the dentist office by 8:30. My every 4 mo cleaning was due. Next visit I have to see the dentist and get
x-rays.- I hate those, I gag on the piece you have to hold in your mouth! No cavities so that was a good thing.
I went to the grocery store after I got out of the dentist and picked up items to make vegetable soup. It turned out really yummy. I have enough for a couple more meals and will freeze a container for later.
This afternoon Vicky, Margaret and I hit a couple of thrift stores. I didn't find a top to go with my shorts but found another top I liked and a pr of shorts for Bill. On the way home, we stopped at the concrete shop and ordered another bench for down by the lake. This is a bigger one and has a seascape on it. It will seat 2 people-should be nice to sit on to watch the sun go down.
I think tomorrow may be the day to get a haircut-one more thing on my to do list I have to get done before the cruise. Time is growing short so .....I best stay busy!!!

Gail yes I am so lucky to have dear friends who are such accomplished seamstress. It is truly a blessing. I have friends who can do so many things that helps and it is truly a blessing. That is the wonderful thing about where we live-everyone is willing to share their talents.
I have my stress test behind me-hopefully won't have to do that again any time soon. I thought I was walking the treadmill but they did the chemical stress test. I did not enjoy that-made me nauseated, gave me a headache and then my legs cramped but after getting some caffeine in me I got to feeling ok. I will get my results either Fri or Mon.
Had our annual owners meeting today and it went well and was over in 90 min. Afterwards, I went to help a friend who is packing up as she has sold her house. Do not envy her going back to Michigan to live! She only came down to pack up her personal belongings. She is on oxygen 24/7 and not well so several have been helping her. Other than finishing up the cleaning, she should be packed and ready to leave by Fri after they close.
Hope all of you are staying warm-cold even down here-we are to below freezing for 3-4 hours tonight. BRRR!

Helllo Everyone,
Hope everyone is having a good day. I had a lot of trouble sleeping last night and only slept for about 2 hours from 7 am to 9 am but I am up and it is a beautiful sunny day out today and tomorrow and Friday we are getting a cold front with it being only 35 both days so I want to get my apt cleaned up today and get the trash out while it is warm since I will proubly stay home the next 2 days. I hate to get out and wait at the bus when it is cold outside. I have some really good friends in my life. I grew up in a small town and have many friends from there who are almost like family to me and have some family members who are supportive to me. And I found out the hard way with this with Ralph who some of my real friends were. I try to be positive and I really don't like or think it is right to judge someone if you don't know all they have been thru and luckily I have some friends that are good at just listening. I will try not to vent on here. I do hope everyone is doing well and so proud of so many of you for getting things done around your house! That has motivated me to get this apt in order because I know I will feel much better when it is! Hopefully get it knocked out a lot today! Have a great day!

Taking every day as a gift from God and being so thankful for my kids and my very funny granddaughter! Each day is a new day and I am thankful for it.

Hello Everyone,
Sounds like everyone is doing good and glad to hear no one is sick or no one in anyone's family is sick. I had been doing pretty good getting over my breakup with Ralph. I had not heard or seen him for 6 months and he just showed up at my door last week. I have not seen him since then but I have been staying home and I just can't let him control my life to the point that I am not getting out and going places. He goes to the same bus station I do but there is a security guard there and that makes me feel better and he did not try to open my door or ianything since I told him I had changed the locks. I am not sure why I have had two serious relationships that ended in being physically abused but I have decided it is something I do need to try and figure out. Maybe I just need to ask more questions in the beginning before it gets bad and cut them off sooner. I had two people in my church that were very judgemental about it and said we should not have been spending so much time together and it was a sin to have sex and I just didn't feel like it was their place to judge me like that. but I really like my church and the pastor and his wife are so nice and have such a good relationship and are always nice to me. I think I will just not talk to those two people as much as no one else in the church has ever been that way with me. It was really bad. He wouldn't let me sleep or eat and it just got to the point that I was not even functioning very well and crying a lot and then it has just been getting him to leave me alone. I hope its done now;. I told him I had boyfriend even though I don't and don't want one unless I feel like God just has put that person in my life. I am happy being single and have been most of my life. I was only married 5 years and did try to go back to my husband but he always cheated on me. So I am happy being alone and just trying to make some new friends in my church and maybe just not talk to those two people since they kept arguing with me to the point I had to say I jus wasn't comfortable with the conversation anymore. I have been a Christain my whole life since I was 8. Hope everyone has a good night!

Taking every day as a gift from God and being so thankful for my kids and my very funny granddaughter! Each day is a new day and I am thankful for it.

Good Evening:

Travis emailed me this morning and told me this was indeed my best auction ever. To move things along, I've decided to donate Vic's music scores and have contacted the University of Wisconsin Music Library. The head librarian is coming over on Monday. Also on Monday an archivist from the State Historical Society is coming to look at things he might want. I tell you sometimes I don't know if I'm coming or going. On top of it all I've got three entities who owe me letters for donations and it's a pain trying to keep track.

With this frigid weather I'm dealing with aches in my arms, shoulders and neck, and my knee and right leg still hurt a bit from the fall I took in November. It's worse at night. Today I got some heat therapy and it's not nearly so acute, but last night I took two ibuprofen. Right now it's -2 F (God only knows what the wind chill is) but tomorrow there is an anticipated high of 11 F. Amazing how much warmer it feels at 11 F.

I started to try on clothes for my upcoming trip to Hawaii and it's really a mixed blessing. The beautiful summer clothes are so big I look like a clown. I went to a tailor to have one pair of silk trousers and 2 blouses altered. The alterations are way more than I paid for the clothes. One of the blouses and the trousers were each under $3 at the thrift shop. The alterations are over $54. No getting around it. It's get them altered or go out and get new things. Yuk. Pat, you are fortunate to have friends who will alter things for you.

Sheryl we don't camp anymore. We lived in our rv fulltime for 6 years and sold it to settle down here due to health issues. We did buy a Rialta in 2012 and traveled in it for a year but again, health issues made us decide we would not continue camping. We did like camping in some of the state parks here in Fl. When we traveled the country we like to stay in Corp, of Engineer parks as they offer a discount rate for seniors.

Where are you camping Pat? DH and I love camping at the state parks, we have many favorites. Supposed to be in the 30's here tomorrow, hope you are in a warmer area.

We started the day off socked in with fog. We cleared out by 10:30 by our house but down by the lake it was still foggy at noon. Hoping it clears out sooner as we are to go out for a picnic on the lake tomorrow!
Today was our luncheon for the camping friends. I used to organize the whole bunch after we all broke up and went our separate ways but it got to be a real job so now I just try to get the folks who camped close to us-we had 18 today-all but 2 showed up. Had a nice time visiting for over an hour after everyone ate.

My brother and his wife gave me the "Divergent" series for my kindle for Christmas and I just finished the first of the 3 books last night. It's sort of similar to the" Hunger Games" series in some ways but I think I like this one better...maybe just because it's the one I'm reading right now. (Yeah, I am that shallow sometimes.)

I had lunch with the former coworker who has cancer today and that was a lot of fun. We're hoping to be able to do it on Sunday next time so that a couple of other friends can go with us, too. My friend seems to be doing pretty well and she's in good spirits, but it's obvious that she's kind of bored because she can't work right now so she spends her days mostly alone while her hubby is at work. I wish there was more I could do for her than just getting her out of the house once a week, but I guess that's actually kind of a lot for her right now.

I had dinner with my aunt and uncle last night and that was nice. It's always fun seeing them...just as long as we don't talk about politics, which we managed to avoid last night. (They're really sweet people...it's just that sometimes I think they're crazy, but then I'm sure they feel the same way about me sometimes. emoticon )

Not too much else to say at the moment. I hope the week is starting out well for all of you. I'll let you know tomorrow how the start of my own work week goes... emoticon

Gail we will leave on the same day. I have been getting things out and I will decide what to pack a couple of days before the trip but at least it will all be out and ready. I have gotten DH's things all done and they are ready to drop in the suitcase! My friend has your dress hemmed and I will get it from her tomorrow!
We had a cool start to the day but did get up to about 67 this afternoon. We expect 2 more days of nearly normal temps before the next cold front arrives. I will certainly be glad to head for warmer temps.
Tomorrow I have gotten a group of our former camping friends to agree to meet for a late lunch. There will only be about 16 of us but it will be nice to catch up with them. I have gotten up to about 100 of us together but wasn't in the mood to do that this time. Maybe in Mar if I can get it together but a lot is going on in the next couple of months.
Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Yes, Pat I am a bit further south from you, between Melbourne and Palm Beach. It has been nice and sunny today though.
I spent the morning catching up on things, working on board minutes, conflict of interest policies and the like. I feel like I have accomplished lots and that makes me feel good.

Good Morning:

Dusty: So sorry that those medications are running havoc on you. Have you spoken to your doctor about it?

Darla: Glad you and your family are doing well. Hope your daughter will find a job soon.

Sandy: So glad to hear about your DH. Sounds like he's making progress. Good luck with scouting for a business. It's great that things are out of the garage and it sounds like the guest bathroom is coming along.

Pat: Glad Bill is doing better with the anti-inflammatory medications. Are you getting ready for your trip? I'm leaving on Feb. 2 and am thinking of starting to pack this week. With the weight loss I may have to get some new things. Tomorrow Savers is having a 50% off sale so I'll be in there to look around.

IMREITE: Wow, was that ever sweet of your husband. I bet you loved the pampering.

Val: Enjoy your time with your family. It's really great that you have some family nearby. Sorry you had difficulties at work. Try to get some good, deep sleep.

Nan: What are you up to? Have you seen a good new movie or read a good book lately? If so, please share.

Enjoy each day.

Sandy, I do feel comfortable telling you and other friends things that I feel should be said. But I also try to be sensitive about things and avoid hurting people's feelings or offending them when I can. If I'm not careful sometimes I can be pretty abrasive and I did not want to be that way with you when you're going through a difficult situation, so I had to consider what I really wanted to say to you for a day or two. In the end I decided that you are worth taking the risk of possibly being a little insensitive because I do care about you and I want to see you get the best from life. I really do hope that you and DH can work things out and stay together. You've been through a lot together and it's obvious that you love the man so I really, really hope that after his treatment you're able to spend some good times with him.

Today was an interesting day at work. We had trouble with an analyzer all day long and when it finally came back up I had to run every level of every control that we run on the stupid thing. I had some problems with the controls but I got everything to work and then went to the other department when the graveyard tech came in. When she started her controls...half of them didn't work the first time. I had been asked to stay 3 hours late because someone called in sick and I ended up staying about another half hour because I couldn't leave the other tech running the whole lab before she got that stupid analyzer ready to go for the night. So now I'm home and exhausted, but not quite ready to go to sleep yet. You know how it is when you get all wound up about things and can't fall asleep for a while... emoticon

Tomorrow (actually, I guess it's later today) I'm going to have dinner with my aunt and uncle. I haven't seen them for a while because they've been traveling and visiting their kids in Boston and Manhattan for a few months. It will be nice to see them and hopefully I'll be able to get some decent sleep before I get up and go over there. So I guess I'd better get the heck off the computer and work a bit more on winding down. I hope that you're all having a really great weekend. emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

My hubby suprised me with a home spa tonight. he lit candles, bubbly soap, lotion and other items we already had at home. he used his creativity and put time in suprising me with a relaxing night.
way better then paying $60-70 at a spa plus a few bucks for parking.

Don't forget to be awesome.

I agree-this cold snap down in Florida is for the birds. I think we many have to fly further south, but Sheryl is further south than I am and she is still cold too. Our low this morning was 36 and our high was only 56 but it didn't feel that warm. I walked with ear muffs, a heavy winter coat belonging to DH and my gloves and still was chilled.
We are doing good-just miss being out in the sunshine. DH's leg is fine today-guess the anti-inflammatory did the trick.
Hope everyone has a good Sunday.
Pat

Pat - I hope DH is feel better today. Just glad that all was good news for the both of you.

Mary - glad that the New doctor is working out and that the new meds are helping. Side effects are not good.

Val - You are a friend. And i hope that you feel comfortable enough to be able to say something that you feel is important for someone to know. I hope that makes sense.

Gail - You really have lost some weight! You go girl! emoticon

Well, I got the garage cleaned out thanks to the help of my BIL. Now both cars are in the garage. I had the handyman over this morning while everyone was out. He is going to put in 2 new lights in the garage and the vanity in the guest bath. I told him I had everything for the vanity. He will pick up the lights for me but, will call me with the price of everything this week before he does anything. I am getting the trimmer for the brushes on Tuesday as Monday i am checking out a business that I am thinking of buying. It is a sign post business that installs sign post for real estate agents. The guy is selling it due to health issues. So, I am going to go out with him for the day to see what he does and look at the books. He already has clients that I would be taking over. He likes the fact that we don't live far from one another as it will be easy to train me and that I am willing to pay cash. So, keep your fingers crossed that all goes well.

I talked with DH's doctors yesterday and he is making great progress. The doctor did say that it sounded that the combination of sleeping pills that were prescribed and the alcohol had been a problem. But, the main problem is the alcohol and the family history of depression. I told the doctor he had been taking OTC sleep aids PMs. Doc said that will no longer be going on either. That he hasn't had anything since nor has he asked for anything. I said I guest after taking so many that made him sick pretty much did it for him as he hate vomiting. Doctor said well that is one way to get him to stop something. I said yes. So, things are going well and he is doing really good. The doctor said we can come to see him probably not till the end of next week.

Well, I hope that everyone else is doing good and that all of you are having a great weekend.

Love, emoticon emoticon emoticon

Gail this sounds like mine, I really love it.
Well a second day of 40's and low 50's here in
Florida, I hear they are calling for 35 tonight. I am officially tired of this and freezing. I really do not know how you folks that live where it is like this all winter make it. I wouldn't last a week.

DH is doing good BUT today his good hip/leg was bothering him-not sure if it is because of our colder than normal weather or what. He gave in and took and anti-inflammatory this evening when he could barely make it up our back steps and it is already doing better. Maybe he needs to soak like you did Gail.

Good Morning:

Sheryl: I make a root vegetable soup that is great. It has a turnip or rutabaga, carrots, onions, potato and is sooo good. It's especially nice with a small dollop of sour cream.

Mary: Hope you are doing better. What ever happened after you saw your internist? Are you on the mend.

Sandy: So glad your DH is getting help and it's just wonderful that his family is there as support. Very generous of his sister to take care of his medical bills. It's good that you are keeping busy.

Pat: It's wonderful that Bill got the catheter out. He must be over the moon. He sounded so cheery when I spoke to him yesterday.

I don't want a pity party but this weather is getting to my via my arthritis. I've mostly been avoiding taking ibuprofen. Yesterday did heat therapy in the jacuzzi and in the late afternoon brought out the heating pad. It did help. The good news is that I still have kept away from gluten and sugar...the two evils. Also, I haven't been eating more than usual. This is very important because in the past i would eat when I was ill or hurting physically or emotionally.

Going to curl up with a new book today and/or catch up on some programs I recorded.

Sending you all hugs,

Gail

Enjoy each day.

It didn't get so cold as was promised last night, 42 when I got up, but now they have moved the cold to tonight. I am making a big pot of vegan split pea soup. Yum Just the thing to keep you warm. I am also planning a pot of root soup during the week. Have any of you tried Root Soup, I was so surprised that I liked it as it contains things I just don't like. It is a meal with crusty bread and very inexpensive too.

Sandy, I'm so glad that what I said about you and your DH didn't offend you. I really do hope that once he's through with treatment you'll be able to find a way to mend your relationship and stay together. But like I said, I'm not going to pester you about it. Relationships are hard work, especially when one party is a substance abuser, and I know that in the end you will make whatever decision is right for you and your life.

Even after downloading the owner's manual for my car, I still had one heck of a time opening my hood! I think they made it difficult on purpose so that most people would just give up and pay their dealership to do anything that involves opening the hood of the flippin' car. When I went out to leave for work today I felt around where I knew the latch thingie was supposed to be...and I couldn't find it! I had to get out of the car, stand by the open driver's door, and feel around under the dash where I knew it was supposed to be before I could find the darn thing. Once I found it, the hood popped for me just as easy as can be but man alive, was it a trauma just finding the darn thing!

So then I went to Walgreen's and bought wiper fluid and drove to work. It's always hard to find a parking space on Thursdays and I almost had to park out on the street. emoticon But I did find a space and then I got out of the car, stood beside the open driver's door, popped the stupid hood and poured most of my gallon of wiper fluid into the reservoir. I say "most" of the gallon because I did manage to spill some of it while I was doing it. And the darn reservoir isn't even full. I'll bet it could take a second gallon. The next time I take it in to the dealership for an oil change or some other service I'm going to ask them to fill it for me. They generally do that for me for free but I guess they don't do it automatically the way they wash my car every time they change my oil. I really miss my late husband. He always dealt with car things for me. (That's not the only reason why I miss him, but it's the big one today. emoticon )

So anyway, that's all taken care of and I only have to work 2 more days before my weekend is here. I hope the rest of you have been having a great week...and that you're all smarter than your cars...

There was much rejoicing!

Thank you everyone. DH and I are taking things one day at a time. The family is staying for a while especially his sister till the doctors say he is OK. He will be going through in-house rehab also. His sister has been very kind and is paying for his care, which DH doesn't know. She just told me that this morning.

Val, first you are never out of line you are a true friend and I would hope for nothing less than the words you offered. Thank you. Second, I just did that the other day except it was the gas cap I could not get off. For the life of me I could not. I finally asked this young guy and said " could you help a stupid old lady get her gas cap off. I seem to be having a problem with it today. I guess that happens when you get old." The kid looked at me and laughed and said " you sound like my Mom". Then I laughed. So, don't feel bad as I don't think I know how to open my hood either. emoticon

I hope that everyone is having a good week. I am keeping busy. I have a guy coming out on Saturday to work on a couple of things that DH never got around to that I can't do. Then my Aunt is bringing her brush trimmer over for me to use to do some trimming while the weather is nice. Will also be able to get some more organizing done of the office and bins and of the garage. Then I can work on the Master closet and try to re-work that a little better. I just might get around to re-painting the old dresser I have been meaning to do too. So, it has been good for me too. Being able to finally talk to someone in the family about what has been going on and have them see it has helped me deal with this. Just glad he is getting help.

Love you all. emoticon

Val you are too funny. If I couldn't figure it out, I would be stopping some guy and acting pathetic and get them to help me open it!
DH got his catheter out today and he is a happy camper! I went for my echo this afternoon and will get the results on Mon.
Ready for a few days without doctors!

Penny, I'm so glad that you seem to be improving so much and that your speech has been coming back. It's always so hard to know what to expect after someone has a stroke and I know that those who have them often become quite frustrated when it takes them a while to see the improvements they'd like to see in their situations. I'll keep on praying that with time you will see a total recovery.

And Sandy, I'm only going to say this once because it's really not my business and I know that it has been hard for you, but I hope that once your DH is out of the hospital you will a least consider the possibility that maybe you can stay together. I just keep thinking of when my late husband was refusing to get treatment and I was threatening to divorce him unless he did, and then he ended up dying before we could try to deal with things any further. I would give anything for him to be able to go through treatment and then be able to try to make things work between us. I would really love to see you guys be able to work things out after he finishes treatment but I'm not going to pester you about it. Please just know that you are in my heart and I'm praying for both of you.

Okay, that's enough being serious for one day. Now we're all going to spend a moment laughing at how stupid Vali is sometimes. My car needs wiper fluid. It keeps giving me messages on my dash about how I need to fill the fluid...but I can't figure out how to open the stupid hood of the darn car! emoticon I've done it before but I just can't figure it out this time. I finally broke down and paid $4.99 to download an owner's manual (because I have no idea where mine is) so that I could look up how to do it. I swear I've already tried finding the latch opener thingamabob where the manual says it should be, but obviously I really have not because the hood of my car remains stubbornly closed. I feel like such a dingbat. emoticon And having my ex around wouldn't have helped because he was more useless with cars than I am. emoticon

So now that we've all had a good laugh it's time for me to finish reading my emails and then get myself to bed. I hope that you're all having a fantastic week...and that you all know how to open the hood of your cars...

There was much rejoicing!

Pat - I am so happy that all went well for DH.

Well, DH family has arrived so I have had a house full as DH is in the hospital and getting help. His Sister is helping a great deal and I am very grateful. I think it just final hit him that it was over and everything on top of that just come crashing down. I had my BIL already here when it happen.

So, I am trying to catch up on what has been going on here. I am fine and feel good and staying strong.

Thank you everyone for all your support and kind words. My love to all of you and I hope that you all are having a great week.

Well, we were so exhausted we were in bed by 10 last night and I was asleep before 11 and I didn't wake up till after 8 this morning. DH didn't get up till well after 10 but I got up a little before 9 as I laid there and watched the morning news after I woke up. I did a short walk and then went down to the RO meeting for an hour but had to leave before it was over so I could take Abbie to the vet in Lake Panasoffkee. DH actually felt good enough to ride along. He sat in the car but it was nice to have company on the ride over and back.

The vet cleaned Abbie's anal glans and told me to take her off of the Moist & Meaty she loves. It has dye in it and that could be a trigger for her skin reactions. She told me to try to keep her on a salmon diet if I can. So Abbie is going to get a diet makeover. She weighed 13 lb 6 oz today so she was down over a lb since her last visit This is about the weight she should be at so hopefully we can keep her here.

We met Betty & Boyd at the vet's. They were picking up Lucy Lou, their schnauzer. She had her teeth cleaned this morning and they had to pull 14! She didn't look too good as they left. They were heading home to let her sleep off the anesthetic. .

We stopped for a late lunch on the way home. I got a chef salad from Firehouse and I got DH some special fried rice from the Chinese restaurant next door and decided I would get some cashew chicken for me-their lunch special. I ate a bit of it and mixed the rest of it into DH's rice as I decided I didn't need to eat a lot of that!. He ate on it for lunch and supper and still has enough for another meal or so! I ended up eating my salad for supper.

We both took a long nap this afternoon after we got the plants all moved in again. Getting tired of moving those things in and out!! Ready for it to warm up and stay that way.

DH is anxious to get the catheter out tomorrow but is feeling pretty good otherwise. His biggest problem is Abbie-she gets on his lap and steps on the bag or tubing and it yanks it! I can imagine that is not a good feeling.

I guess that pretty much covers our day. Nothing too exciting - just getting colder! Not looking forward to the 30's in the morning. Of course, compared to the rest of the country I guess we should not complain.

Went to the reg dr yesterday. Will be off the steroids by the weekend. Still can't remember much about what went on . But the speech has came back OK so I don't have to have therapy. But I still hear voices in my right ear. They say it'll be at least 6 month before I get over it..Still get tired at times.

The winds really high today. but it's in the 50's.

Pat, hope both of you are doing Ok. I know it's hard on the person helping the one who's sick.

Pat, I'm so, so happy that things went so well for your DH. You're right, prayers really do help and I know he was on the receiving end of a LOT of them from this group. I hope that things continue to go smoothly for him.

I'm sure I have more to say but I'm exhausted so I'm just going to go crawl into bed and I'll tell you anything that was really important tomorrow.

There was much rejoicing!

Hello Everyone,
So happy Pat that your dh surgery went so well and it was not cancer! That is a answer to prayer! I hope he recovers well and you will be able to get some rest too.

I talked to the Justice Center again today about Ralph. They said I could file a report with the police and call them if he showed up again and try to get him for criminal trespassing on my property but he has not tried to call or come by and I had left him a message telling him all of his stuff was gone and I didn't want anything to do with him so hopefully he will stay away.

My caseworker is coming tomorrow so I am cleaning tonight and getting my apt looking better. He comes once a week but has not been here for a while. Hope everyone has a good night! Darla

Taking every day as a gift from God and being so thankful for my kids and my very funny granddaughter! Each day is a new day and I am thankful for it.

Gail, I am in Ft Pierce, between Melbourne and Palm beach on the East Coast. Google images has some beautiful pictures of our beaches and the lagoon. I was born and raised here. I misread what you wrote, thought I might actually get to meet one of my Spark Friends.

OK time for details. I have been on the go most of the afternoon! Of course the morning was spent at the surgery center.
We were up by 7 and got our showers, Bill took the trash out for pickup, I got Abbie's hair into her topknot, you know all those crazy things you have to do every day! Anyhow the surgery center called yesterday and said we should arrive at 9:30 this morning but about 8:15 this morning we got a call to ask if we could arrive by 9! Thank God we had gotten up early and was taking our time getting ready so we could pick up and leave immediately. I had packed my tablet and a couple items in my "go bag" the night before. Only thing we had to do was drop Abbie at Barb & Eddie's. We arrived about 8:50 and they checked Bill in immediately and by 9 he was back behind closed doors getting prepped for surgery! I got to go back and sit with him till they took him into surgery after they got him all hooked up to the monitors and started his IV. We both got to talk to the surgeon and the anesthesiologist which was nice. He was actually taken into surgery about 10 and I was told it would be about an hour. Well, imagine my surprise when they came and got me at 10:25! The surgeon came to talk to us about 10 min later-he said he could not find that prostrate stone anywhere and Bill had seen it on Dec 31 when the dr sent the camera in there! So the doc didn't have to break it up and vacuum it out which sped things up. Also, when he got into the bladder for the surgery, the polyp is possibly just radiation cystitis and that is causing the bladder to shed tissue. He cleaned things out and it will be analyzed but he is thinking it isn't cancer! Thank you Lord! emoticon answered.
Bill took about 15 min to really wake up after he came back from surgery and then he had a bit of diarrhea. Not sure if it was due to the anesthesia or from dinner last night. I had baked herb & garlic tilapia and that didn't set well on his tummy. I had planned to drop off his scripts on the way home but he needed to get home to the bathroom so came straight here. We actually got home about 11:45. I got him all taken care of and once I had him settled in his recliner and fed him some applesauce and got his morning pills in him, I made a couple of calls to the kids and then went back to drop off his scripts at Publix. I got a few items we needed and then home to check on him. I didn't like to leave him for too long since he was still a bit wobbly from the anesthesia.
I went to get Abbie after I got the groceries put away and have been busy since getting back home fielding calls from friends and family. I had to go back and pick up his medicine about 3:30. Lucky Bill has slept most of the afternoon. I am sure I will fall into the bed tonight and sleep like a log! We neither one slept very well last night. In fact I must have slept good for part of the night as Bill said I yelled at him about the noise his Bi-pap machine was making and I don't remember a thing!!! emoticon After that he was afraid to wear it so left it off the rest of the night.
I need to go fix us something for supper. Think he is going to stay on applesauce and toast for now. I did get bananas at the store and he had one of those mid afternoon. I am following the BRAT diet for now till I know he is feeling better and tummy troubles are over with..
He has to go in Thur. morning to get the catheter removed. Till then I am on "bag" duty!!! I knew I should have gone to nursing school.
Hugs to all of you-your prayers have helped - look how the doc could not even find a stone that 2 different docs had seen!! Prayer is powerful and this proves it.
Hugs to all of you.
Pat

PS Gail can you e-mail me your agents name and number. I don't have one down here. I used to work with a fella in STL whose wife was a travel agent. We used one for our Alaska trip that I cannot stand. Won't go into details but would not use him or his agency again!!!!

Sheryl:

My travel agent is in Florida; I am in Wisconsin. I'll be going on a cruise to Hawaii in February and on a bus trip all around Iceland in June. For April I'm going to return to Cancun; I love it there. The rest of the year is up for grabs. (I go away every two months to keep my sanity while I distribute Vic's collections.) So far the money I've made selling some of his things have paid for the trips. Given all my contributions to charities in 2013, Uncle Sam will probably give me a very large refund. (I'll have to spread the refund out over as many as 5 years because my deductions will exceed 1/2 my annual income.) If that's the case I'll continue to travel when the mood strikes me. I expect there will also be quite enough to get new floors and update my bathroom fixtures.

Sheryl, where do you live in Florida?

G.

Pat: How did it go for Bill today?

Enjoy each day.

Pat: I recently hooked up with a very highly recommended travel agent in Florida...yes, Florida... He booked two trips for me in 2014, one in February and another in June. If you are interested in contacting him let me know and I'll give you his information. Just be clear to him about your budget.

As another idea, churches and fraternal organizations also sponsor trips. Perhaps something is available in a nearby town, or perhaps bank or senior center in a nearby town has something going and will allow you to participate. Just a thought. There is a bank in the next town over who has sponsored all kinds of trips, not just for seniors. Our TV and radio stations also do this.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Good evening ladies - well it has been a real hard go but here we are down to the final night before surgery. Today we slept in a bit and when Bill got up I suggested we go to a Travel Expo that was being held from 11-2. He was agreeable so we called Betty & Boyd and they thought it would be fun so we picked them up at 11:30. We picked up lots of brochures and if $$$ was no object would love to do some of the trips/cruises offered. Bill would love to do a train trip. I am not sure I would enjoy that but if he really wanted to I would be willing to go! At least this gives us ideas to think about. I wish we had more local tour companies that offered bus trips for seniors. We have 2 locally but they just do a few trips and most to places we have already been. It is nice to go by bus and not have to drive.
We had a late lunch out and I managed to be good and have a chef salad. I did have a bit of full fat dressing since they didn't have lo-cal but I dipped my fork in it instead of pouring it on so it worked for me.
We have to be at the surgery center at 9:30 so won't have to get up too early but still have to get up to get around. I was happy they didn't tell us to be there at 6 am! It is likely going to be raining so Abbie is going to stay with her "Auntie" Barb since storms scare her.
Right now Bill isn't too happy with me-I baked fish for supper and it was seasoned with herbs and garlic and it isn't setting well in his tummy. Hopefully that isn't going to cause a problem! I can't win.
Thanks for all the prayers-I know it has helped to keep us calm the past couple of weeks. You are are such wonderful friends and my greatest support.
Hugs to all of you and a special thank you to Gail. Talking to you today helped to lift my spirits. You are such a dear.

Pat

Good Morning:

Actually, it's the middle of the night. I went to bed around 7:30 last night, got my 8 hours and am up and awake now. If I need a nap later I'll catch 40 winks.

I was going mad the past few days looking for a library book that I checked out last week. Much to my relief, I found it in a closet along with some books a good friend gave me. Whew! It's a very good book and aside from the problem of possibly losing it, I wanted to finish it.

Travis is coming later this morning to take things for the next auction, this Thursday. I'm planning on some heat therapy at the jacuzzi at the gym and reading the rest of the day.

Sending you all hugs,

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Hello Everyone,
Sandy- I am sorry to hear about your divorce and wish you and your ex happiness. My ex husband is a bad alcoholic and was very abusive to me and my kids. I stayed with him for five years and just couldn't take anymore. We divorced and several years later moved back in together and it was fine for year but then he started drinking again and then I found out he was cheating on me again and still went back two more times and still he cheated so I finally gave up and started looking for other men to date. I have dated some good men not all of them were abusive. I have been single for over 20 years and I guess just have not found the right guy. I do have a very good friend in my life right now who I met at church and we are getting closer all the time. I don't think he wants to date anyone right now and neither do I so it is nice having a close male friend. My ex boyfriend showed up at my door and he is not suppose to come anywhere near me. So I am going back to the District Attorneys office tomorrow and seeing what they can do.

Right now I am just enjoying going to church and being active and involved in it and meeting new people in church to be friends with. I did join Weight Watchers and working on that. I was glad to go and spend time with my daughter and granddaughter at Christmas and look forward to this summer when I can bring them to here and we can go to Sea World. I had lunch with my son when I came back from Arizona and he got back from Amarillo. He has some friends who were looking for another medium size dog for their dog to play with and they just fell in love with Betty when they saw her and they have a house and big yard for her to play in and now she has another dog to play with and is much happier. She was kind of depressed like me and just laying around sleeping like I was so it was better for her to have a place to play and I have been doing better since I got back home too and made some new years resolutions to try to work on. Hope everyone has a good night. Thanks for your concern Gail and Pat! I have held out for a good husband that is not only good for me but for me kids too. And they start out sweet and nice and only later on get verbally abusive that's when I get rid of them!

Taking every day as a gift from God and being so thankful for my kids and my very funny granddaughter! Each day is a new day and I am thankful for it.

Gail my mouth was watering just reading your description of the meatloaf. I used to make it all the time when my boys were growing up but DH #2 is not a fan of meatloaf so I had not made it in over 20 years and when I made it this summer it was not as good as I remember! I will have to give your recipe a try.
My poor DH must have eaten something yesterday that made him deathly ill for about 5 hours-at one point I thought I might need to take him to the ER and all I could think of was don't let this be the flu and postpone his surgery! After several hours of emptying everything in his tummy he got to feeling better and he never had a fever and today has felt good so it really must have been something he ate (possibly a piece of greasy pizza at Sam's Club!). He said no more pizza for him anytime soon.
I have enjoyed a beautiful sunny day, cooler so it was nice walking today. I let DH sleep most of the morning-want him well rested and feeling good for Tues. I did some ironing and the pills for the week and have read a good part of the afternoon.
Hope all of you had a good weekend.
Pat

Hi again:

My neighbors across the street are out of town. They stopped their newspaper but somehow the message didn't get through and they delivered yesterday and again today. It's absolutely an accident waiting to happen out there. The sidewalks are either black ice or white ice. At first I didn't see the paper, but when I opened my garage I saw it was right near the snowbank on the right side. I backed into their driveway and got out to retrieve the paper. As I bent to get it I started sliding and there was absolutely no dry spot and nothing to grab. I was able to jab my right foot into the snowbank, get the paper, get up and gingerly walk to my car. What a sight I must have been! Not to worry; I didn't hurt myself; I only went "skating" on my knees.

I put salt on the path down the side of the driveway leading up to the front door and the garage. Unfortunately, until that melts the ice I cannot do the side walk again.

G.

SERENE-BEAN: Here is the recipe I spoke to you about. First off, I mixed the meats thoroughly while I sauteed onions and garlic; I added the sauteed veggies to the meat mixture and then added the oatmeal. I beat the eggs, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and other ingredients except the corn starch, and mixed the egg mixture in with the meat. Finally, I sprinkled the cornstarch into the meat and worked it in so that it was well mixed.

I used 1/4 Cup of oatmeal instead of the crackers and regular mustard instead of dry mustard. Also, I baked the meatloaf at 400 in a loaf pan until it was done. Next time I make this I will be more careful with the cheese and use slices of cheese. It's good to put the cheese in the center of the loaf so as to better seal the cheese in between the meat. Finally, I'll cut the ham slices in strips the width of portion slices. It will be easier to cut that way and each slice of meat loaf will get a couple of strips of ham. This was the very best meatloaf ever!

Good Morning:

I am down another two pounds in the past couple of weeks and it's amazing, considering all that I've been eating. Yesterday I made a meatloaf recipe that I found as a Yahoo feature. It was unbelievable... something you'd serve to company. (So far I'm down 25 lbs since the beginning of August.)

I didn't drive yesterday because the roads were treacherous. In fact, I went out twice to salt the sidewalk. It was like walking on a skating rink. There were many, many fender benders on the road and a few cars landed in ditches. Hopefully, the temperatures will rise enough today to melt the ice and I'll go out.

Wishing you all a great Sunday.

Gail

Pat: I got two formal dresses at Savers the day they had the 50% off sale. I also found two pairs of VERY dressy pants (one Italian silk and the other part of a Liz Clayborne outfit) that I can use for formal wear. I bought them a few years ago and liked them so much I held on to them even though they were too small. The pants need to be altered and I'm hoping to go in this week. One of the dresses should probably be hemmed and I'll take that in too. The other dress is a long black dress and, if I don't lose too much before I leave it may not need to be altered.

Enjoy each day.

Sandy, I hope that your (former?) DH is able to get whatever help he needs in order to get back to being his old self and be happy again. Maybe when that happens the two of you will get back together, and maybe not. I hope that you are at (or will get to) a place where you can be happy whether he is in your life or not. You both deserve to be happy and I hope that you will both be able to take whatever steps are necessary to get to a better place in your life/lives. (That all sounds kinda vague, but I think that you will understand what I'm trying to say.) Please know that we will always be here for you. emoticon

Gail, the people who got laid off at my job were the ones whose job was drawing blood. The nursing staff is going to do that from now on, or at least until the hospital system realizes that the lab really did a much better job of it and the nursing staff has more important things to do than draw blood over and over again when things don't go right. What I do is all sorts of different testing on blood and various other body fluids. (Blood, urine, spinal fluid, joint fluid, fluid from just about anywhere that you can imagine.) I count the cells that are in the fluids, I look at stained slides and tell you what types of cells they are and what they look like (using the microscope is my favorite part of my job), I test the chemical constituents of the fluids and I do a bunch of rapid tests for things like influenza and strep. Those are the highlights but of course it's more complicated than that and you wouldn't understand if I tried to explain more of it to you because you are sane and did not go to med tech school. emoticon

Anyway, the lab is a bit of a sad place right now because of all the former coworkers we are missing, but it's been so darn busy recently that we don't have too much time to think about that. Influenza has hit most parts of the country with a vengeance and we're having a heck of a time keeping up with all of the necessary testing now that we have fewer helpers. emoticon 9 months from now when all of this cold weather is just a memory we'll be super busy with all of the babies that were conceived when it was too cold to go outside, but right now we really are smack dab in the middle of flu season. At least it's job security...

I hope you guys are all having a great weekend. I think it's time for me to get myself to bed now. Have a great Sunday. emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

Thank you everyone. DH has been having problems with depression since his friend passed and is really missing his family. He has always been able to make money and take care of things. He is really feeling out of sorts and I think for him it is time for him to go visit an stay with family. I have talked with family and they are willing to help both of us and get him the help he needs. We will see what happens after that. He knows he is not himself. I just want him to be happy.

For me I am starting a new journey in my life and buying a business to invest my money and to keep me busy. i am looking forward to it. I feel that is the best medicine beside working on the house and being with family and friends.

Thank you so much everyone for your support. I really appreciate a lot. You are all a wonderful group and love you all.

Sandy

Sandy just know that we are here to support you in any way that we can. It is never easy but until DH is in a good place it may be best for both of you. As I think it was Gail suggested, maybe now is the time to pour yourself into starting your own business. Staying busy will be the key or it would be for me. emoticon
Val what a time at work. I can just bet that you are glad that it is the weekend and you will be able to just relax for a couple of days. It has been a number of years but I know how stressful it is when there is a shakeup at work. It usually just means more work for those that are left working! Hopefully you will settle in to the new routine in a few weeks. It seems there is just so many changes being made in the health care industry and I am not sure they are all good but what can we do.
Darla I agree that possibly you need to evaluate the men a bit more before getting too involved with them. It seems you do tend to find ones who have not treated you right. I guess there is not a standardized test but hopefully you can step back and just be happy getting to know you.
I had another day of keeping DH busy-we went with friends to a flea market and then stopped by Sam's Club on the way home. I did find a shawl today to wear on the cruise. I was beginning to wonder if I would but I found it at the flea market. Betty bought one also-just something light to throw over our shoulders if it is cool in the evening.
After we got back home late this afternoon, I took my dress for the formal night to my friend's and she and her sister is going to hem is for me. It is going to be quite a job-it wraps in the front and has a curved hem and is lined in the back so she said it will be a challenge but the sister used to make wedding dresses so she knows how to do it.
I am blessed to have talented friends to help me out.
Pat

Val: How does your job differ from that of those who were laid off? Do you do DNA analysis?

Gail, the hospital system where I work has decided that the nursing staff will be drawing the blood from now on so that the revenue for doing that will go to the hospital instead of to the lab. My work is a very strange situation. I work IN the hospital but I do not work FOR the hospital, I work FOR the lab, which is actually a separate company. The people who got laid off this week were the people who drew the blood for the lab because now the lab will not be providing that service to the hospital. All in all, it's a very strange situation that nobody is happy with. emoticon

Added to the unhappy transition that happened this week, influenza season is in full swing right now, and I do mean FULL. Right as we have lost half of our personnel in the lab we have also gotten very, very busy because of all the people with flu-like symptoms who are coming to our emergency room. We'll make it through all of this...somehow...

I hope that you're all having a really great weekend without too much snow.

There was much rejoicing!

The rains have finally stopped, flooding has somewhat receded. There were a lot of crazy people trying to teach their cars to swim though. I wonder what they don't get when they are told to stay where they are for their own safety??

Sandy: You are a strong lady and will get through this. Remember, you have us all as a support group. You mentioned a while back that you were going to start a business from home. Have you done anything about that? Maybe now would be a good time to pour yourself into it.

Val: Oh, sweetheart, I'm so sorry that you went through such misery this week. You mentioned that so many that you liked were leaving the work scene. That has to have contributed to your mood. BTW, were the others fired? Be good to yourself and you too remember we are here for you.

Darla: Maybe I'm speaking out of turn, and if I am, just tell me to shut up. It seems to me that you have gone through several abusive relationships. Perhaps if you were to step back and think about what you do or don't do that results in your involvement with abusive individuals, that might help you figure out what is necessary to end the cycle. You have been through so much and I'd hate to see you go through it again.

Pat: Good finds at the thrift store. You sound so happy and I'm delighted for you.

Stay safe everyone,

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Oh Sandy, I'm so sorry you've had to go through this. It sounds a lot like what I went through before my ex and I divorced a couple of years ago. It wasn't easy or fun, but I did make it through to where I could see sunny sky again and I know that you will, too. Just try not to be too hard on yourself for a while. emoticon

As for me, I had just a horrendous day at work today. I'm a very strong person emotionally but my job has really been awful recently. It has been bad for everyone for a little while and will probably not bet much better for quite some time. Mostly we're all dealing with it but today someone came to me with what appeared to be something I had neglected to do and I just started crying. Turned out that I had in fact done the thing and it was just a paperwork sort of mistake that made it look like I had neglected the task, but before we realized it I just reached my breaking point and lost it. Good thing there's only one more day left in my work week, and also that I don't keep any alcohol around my apartment. emoticon

Okay, enough of my tale of woe. Things will be okay for me and tomorrow I can start over and try to have a better day. I hope that the rest of you have a really fabulous (and warm) weekend.

There was much rejoicing!
