Hello Everyone!

Pat- I am so sorry to hear about your DH cancer. I hope the surgery gets all of it and I will keep you and him in my prayers!

Glad everyone had a good Christmas and looking forward to a New Year. I spent 9 days in Phoenix Arizona with my daughter and granddaughter and it was a busy good time and I hated to leave them. But we have made plans for her to come this summer to San Antonio so I can take Maddie to Sea World and she can see her brother Chris and Caitlin his wife. Chris and Caitlin kept my dog Betty while I was gone and they took all 3 dogs to Amarillo to her Mom's house! So he is bringing Betty back home on Wed. My daughter has 4 dogs and 3 cats! We love animals! Erin was really worried about me since I was having a hard time walking with my knee hurting a lot. I can't get it MRi on it until Thursday to find out what is going on with it. Plus she thinks I just don't take care of myself well enough and she is right. So Sat I am going to join Weight Watchers again and start working on losing weight and when my knee gets better start exercising more with Betty by taking her for walks. I can do short walks now though. I also plan to keep being active in my church as they have a lot of activities for women and it makes me feel good to go. I also plan to work on my apt and get it more organized and get rid of a lot of things and buy some new things to make it look better in here. And save more money.

Well hope everyone has a wonderful New Years and dont' forget to eat your blackeyed peas and cornbread on New Years for good luck! Have a good night!

Taking every day as a gift from God and being so thankful for my kids and my very funny granddaughter! Each day is a new day and I am thankful for it.

We got quite a jolt today-wasn't what DH & I was expecting but will have to deal with it no matter what. The surgeon did another scope this afternoon and instead of seeing 2 stones as the previous one did, he says there is only 1 stone and that here is a growth in the bladder and he is 99% sure it is cancerous. Outpatient surgery is already set for Jan 14. We are still trying to absorb this information. From just dealing with stones to another bout with cancer is a lot to accept. Please keep DH in your prayers as we wait for this to be removed and me that I can remain strong and positive for him.
We both stayed busy this morning so we didn't have to think about going. DH helped our friend with the car he bought for his son. They checked out the battery and had to put in a new one as that one was 7 yrs old and it was hard to install. Sonny was wishing he had paid the $40 to get it put in!
I worked on my shrubs-got them trimmed and I pulled the lower leaves off my yuccas and now they have trunks. I even deadhead another group of roses for the park and pulled the weeds under them. I got my ironing done when I got back home, cleaned out my file cabinet of the 2013 receipts and even had time to read the newspaper before it was time to go to see the dr.

Good Morning:

Well, it looks like we all made it through Christmas. I'm always happy to begin a new year; it's almost like a rebirth. Got everything taken care of so I'll hang low today and will start a new book. Also, will at least get started on adding up all my 2013 donations for the accountant. Short term goals are good. Here are mine:

1. Weigh myself only on Sunday morning.

2. Keep away from gluten and only eat small amount of dairy and sugar on rare occasions.

3. Learn to do something new at least 3 times a week.

4. Do random acts of kindness.

5. Keep on disposing of Victor's things and start to redecorate a bit.

G.

Val: Do what you can and relax about Christmas. One thing you might consider is getting the gifts throughout the year and saving them for Christmas. In any case, surely your brother and SIL understand the difficulties you have. More and more I hear people troubled by the pressures of Christmas. Something's wrong with that picture.

Pat: Wishing Bill all the best with the urologist today.

Sheryl: What is your goal?

Sandy: It may sound crazy, but sometimes it's a blessing when folks cancel because we too are not up to company.

Enjoy each day.

Actually I do have a long term goal, but the focus on attaining it will be monthly. I think I have a short attention span. lol

Pat - I hope that everything goes well tomorrow and DH finally get everything taken care of.

Val - I hope you get everything straighten out with the insurance.

Gail - You stay safe and warm. You guys are being hit with some bad weather. I proud of you that you are ready to go out side our comfort zone. That is exciting for Travis and his wife.

Sheryl - I think which ever way you make you goal it is always nice to have a few. I have a yearly, monthly and weekly. But, there is nothing wrong with what ever way you set your goals.

Been taking it easy the last couple days. We were going to have friends over but, they had to cancel. In a way it ended up being good as I got to bed early and got some good sleep. We have been busy here organizing the garage so we can get both cars in. It isn't that much stuff. It is just hanging things up and putting them on the shelves.

Well, it is hard to believe that this year is almost over , where has the time gone. As this year ends and we start the New I wish for each of you the Blessings of Friendship, Love, Family, Health and much Happiness. Happy New Year Everyone! emoticon

Val that is some excitement-not knowing who your insurance company is! Hopefully you get some answers and all is well for your appointment with the dr. I changed my Part D plan and need to sign up for their mail order service BUT I can't do it until Jan 1 even though you sign up for the insurance back in Oct or Nov. I am lucky that I have enough medicine to last me but if I didn't I would be in a pickle.
Tomorrow is the big day at the urologist for DH. Hopefully he will finally get some answers and a plan to relieve this constant pain.

I hope to never experience anything anywhere near a wind chill of -20 degrees. emoticon (How do people live like that??) And I really like the idea of monthly goals. My goal for this month (and probably for most months) is to NOT experience a -20 degree wind chill. emoticon I'm sure I can come up with some more worthwhile goals than that but goodness gracious! That's cold! emoticon

I woke up feeling pretty yucky today, just kind of sick to my stomach all morning. That's getting a bit better as the day wears on but I think that I won't bother trying to do anything much today. I turned on the heat after I got up so at least it's starting to feel warm in the apartment. I'm really ready for spring to get here...

I didn't get my brother and SIL's Christmas gifts wrapped or mailed before Christmas. emoticon Some years I'm better about that than others, and since the year I got divorced I've been having trouble motivating myself to get it done. I really need to try to get it done today so that I can mail the box on Monday or before I go to work on Tuesday. (I'm not a very good sister...)

During our open enrollment period this year I decided to go with Aetna for next year's health insurance because it's a national company. My company has always been with Lovelace, which is a very good insurance company but only operates in the state of New Mexico. Then I heard that Lovelace was probably going to be bought by Blue Cross so I faxed a form to my company saying that I wanted to change to sticking with Lovelace. While I was out of town last week information and an insurance card from Aetna arrived in the mail, so tomorrow I need to call to find out which company my insurance is going to be with this year. When I call Lovelace I'm on hold for up to an hour trying to get through to a person, which is one of the reasons I was going to switch over to Aetna, so I think I'll try calling Aetna first. Our dental insurance has been with them for a year or two and they tend to answer the phone more quickly than Lovelace. One way or the other, I need to find out which insurance company I'm going to be with next year because I have an appointment with my doctor on January 2nd. Also, I need to know which pharmacy will be handling my prescriptions come January. emoticon

Anyway, that's the "excitement" in my life right now. Everyone stay warm and healthy.

There was much rejoicing!

Good Morning:

Well, I made it through 3 Christmas celebrations and maintained my weight. Not bad, huh?

The temperatures are dropping sharply starting today. Tomorrow wind chills may go down to -20 to -24, so I plan on staying in. Will run errands today.

Travis's wife had a healthy baby girl late this past week, on the 26th. I'm delighted for them. She had trouble getting pregnant and when she did she had a miscarriage, so this bundle of joy came straight from heaven. This was the greatest Christmas present.

Well, sisters, now that the holiday has passed we're up for a new start. My new goal for the new year is to learn something new...go out of my comfort zone...at least 3 times a week. As far as food is concerned, I'll just follow the same course; it's working. Also, those random acts of kindness give me a lot a pleasure so I will continue with them.

Sending you all hugs,

Gail

Enjoy each day.

I read a blog today that changed the way I feel about making goals. the writer makes monthly goals, not yearly. I feel this is so much better for my personality as I will always see the attainable end.

Val glad you had a good trip and a good visit with your parents. I know you have to be missing the warmer temps. We are so spoiled we whine when it gets below 65!
I am a happy camper-DISH tech came this afternoon and we now have a new box and all is right in the world. One would think we didn't have another tv to watch but not having it in the family room with our recliners is a real pain!
I got our outside Christmas decorations down and put away today, did 2 loads of laundry, my ironing, cleaned out my box of files for 2008 in preparation for taking things out of my file for 2013. DH now has a lot of shredding to do and will have more when I clean out some things for this year. I save some receipts and those will go in the tub I just emptied so should be all done by Jan 1 so I can start filing right away. I used to let things pile up and found it was a real chore if I did that but if I file as things come in and get paid then it isn't a big deal. Abbie got a bath today. I even went and cleaned out some on the storage shed for the park's stuff so I am about ready to start putting those decorations away.
Hope all of you are having a good weekend.

I spent Monday through Friday visiting my parents in Arizona...and I wish I was still there. Their low temperatures these days are the same as our high temperatures. emoticon Albuquerque isn't nearly as cold as some parts of the country, but we're all spoiled as a result of being used to our mostly warm temperatures and so we cry like babies when it gets cold. emoticon

I had a wonderful visit with my parents and it was nice to spend Christmas with them for the first time in a few years. They dropped me off at the airport (Daddy has a bad cold and didn't want to come in) and then while I was in line to check my bag in...I couldn't find my photo ID! emoticon I was freaking out because it wasn't in my wallet and it wasn't in the pocket of my carry on bag, so I called Mom to tell her that I was going to have to stay a few more days...and then I checked the inside pocket of my jacket and found the darn thing. Hooray! After that my flight from Tucson to San Diego was uneventful but the plane that was taking us from San Diego to Albuquerque was 45 minutes late so I got to spend an hour and a half in the lovely San Diego airport. emoticon (If I'd been able to book my flights sooner I might have been able to get direct flights from Albuquerque to Tucson and back, but instead I had to fly through California both ways. emoticon )

When I got home I tripped on a curb in the parking lot and skinned my knee, but that was the worst thing to come out of my trip so I feel like overall things were okay. Kitties hid from me for a little while (until they were sure that after 5 days someone dangerous wasn't coming through the front door, I guess) but they're back to being their bratty little selves again so all is right with the world again. emoticon I'll be going back to Tucson in February for the Gem and Mineral show (Mom and I go together every couple of years) and that should be fun, too.

So now I have 3 more days off to recover from the trip, and then it's back to my regular routine of work-sleep-work-sleep... Hopefully things will seem less stressful now that I've had a break and visited my parents. I hope that all of you had a really great Christmas, if that is the holiday that you celebrate. For those who don't celebrate Christmas, I hope that your week was great anyway. emoticon I'll check in again after I've gotten a little more rest and try to remember whether or not I have anything more to tell you about my trip to Tucson. Everyone have a really great weekend.

There was much rejoicing!

Pat, it is happy to be able to share things that you don't need with someone who can use it, isn't it? Since the 26 th we've shared with 3 different ladies. And they've really made me happy & we've laughded a lot.. It seems like my brain is beging to come back -- except when I can't think of the words I want to use. But my energy seems to be coming back a bit at a time. Bill's been really helping. I have a eye doctor's appointment Monday & then a new heart doctor Tuesday & my regular dr later Tuesday. Then they say it'll be 6 months to get back in order.

We've got 60 today & then 13 Sunday & going to be really cold. Not supposed to rain for the next 7 days but some small snow - maybe.

Hope everyone has a good & safe day!

It has been a really dreary day, woke up to gray skies and drizzle and it hasn't changed much all day long. Our high today was 67 and we are now down to 63. Don't think we will get very much colder and hoping for a better day tomorrow. However, have not seen the news since I called DISH about noon today-our hold feature was not working and I thought they could help resolve the issue. At least then we had tv, now nothing since they had me doing all kinds of things!!! They are sending a tech out tomorrow afternoon so hopefully he can get us going again. I just wanted things resolved before the good shows resume after the holidays. I thought they would just send us a new box but......not sure what happened-things went black when I unplugged the box as they requested and now I have NADA, ZIP, you get the picture. It isn't like we can't watch tv-there is one in our bedroom, the spare bedroom and our Fl room but we like our family room!!!
I put on a pot of ham & beans about 10:30 and have made a loaf of fresh bread and baking cornbread now. Vicky & Sonny are coming to eat supper with us in a few min. I also made a carrot cake. Not exactly diet fare, but trying to use up some of the things in my cupboard. They are having to help their grown son-his car died so they have purchased one down here and will take it to him on Jan 7 and ride back down here on the 15th with their cousin and his wife who are coming to go on the cruise with us.
I had planned to get the outside Christmas decorations down today but since it was nasty will see how the weather is tomorrow. Hopefully I can get it done and maybe start on park stuff. Need it done before they leave if I want Vicky to help me.
Gotta run, dinner calling.
Pat

I am considering keeping Winter themed...i.e. snowmen & snowflakes up until Spring..I like this idea because here in MN we get to celebrate all 4 seasons..albeit sometime all in a short period of time! that said...my sled outside my kitchen door...see my Pinterest Christmas & Winter board for this, my snowmen & snowflakes will celebrate this Season where we are to rest, reflect and enjoy the peace & quiet of the Season as all nature restores its energy to burst forth in Spring with a re-birth- full of beauty and vitality.

I am so Proud of all of you as I said. You all do so much Random Acts of Kindness everyday. I am glad to hear that each of you are enjoying your time with your families and friends and Loved ones.

Weather here has been cool but, breaks of sun. We are suppose to get rain tomorrow. I am trying not to get sick and I am fighting this all the way. Everyone enjoy your weekend and stay warm. Please say a prayer for those in the Midwest and Northeast. They are having very bad weather.

Have a great weekend. emoticon

Sandy I have been working off and on this year cleaning things out a room at a time-done with both bedrooms and bathrooms and working on the kitchen and dining room now. Today I took a brand new curling iron, a new George Foreman grill and a cute snowman that I donated to a fund raiser for one of our residents. This lady moved in our community this fall and has had a heart attack. Her roof needed work and she used someone who wasn't licensed to do it and got fined-this all happened just days after she got out of the hospital. She was found crying because she did not have the money to fix her roof or to pay the fine. Everyone has rallied around her and on Jan 4 a ham and bean dinner is being held to raise money along with the silent auction and some are making cash donations. I am so happy we live in a community to takes care of it's own. We are trying to do our part because they sure were here for us last winter when DH broke his hip.
Val so glad you are having a good time with your parents. I hope your weather is nice. Enjoy because before you know it, you will be on your way back home.
Gail is sounds like you are having quite the time celebrating. How is your weather????
We woke to fog this morning but it burned off before 11 and we had a lovely afternoon and our high was 74 today. We went to a flea market today where I got some fresh tomatoes and they had wonderful taste-we had one for dinner tonight. I worked out in the gardens this afternoon and before we went to the flea market this morning, I put away our indoor Christmas decorations and hopefully will get our outdoor done tomorrow. I would not rush it, but I need to take down all the park decorations next week so decided I need to get mine done as once I am done in the park I won't want to do it!!!
Hope all of you have had a great day.

No shopping for me, either. We're enjoying a nice relaxing day and Mom and I are working on the puzzle I gave her for Christmas because for the first time in all of my visits to my parents in Arizona she and I actually finished the one we started the day I got here. Hooray! I'm really having a nice visit with my folks and wishing that I didn't have to go home tomorrow.

I hope that all of you had a really wonderful Christmas. emoticon

Today is Boxing Day in the UK and Ireland and in most areas settled by the English (the U.S. is the major exception), including Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
First a wee bit of history and at the end my suggestions for those of us in the US.

While the exact origins of the holiday are obscure, it is likely that Boxing Day began in England during the Middle Ages. The day is a national holiday and one to spend with family and friends (usually those not seen on Christmas Day itself,) and eating up the leftovers. Its origins however, are steeped in history and tradition.

Great sailing ships when setting sail would have a sealed box containing money on board for good luck.If the voyage were a success the box was given to a priest, opened at Christmas and the contents given to the poor.

St. Stephen's Martyrdom
The Feast of St. Stephen also takes place on December 26. St. Stephen was one of the seven original deacons of the Christian Church who were ordained by the Apostles to care for widows and the poor. For the success of his preaching and his devotion to Christ, St. Stephen was stoned to death by a mob. As he died, he begged God not to punish his killers
=====================
Now as we prepare for a new year perhaps this would be a great time to begin boxing up those items we no longer need, or use to give to charity or on craigs list. I have given a number of items on Craigs list that have brightened Christmas celebrations in several homes,
so now time to gather more books, clothes, and appliances we do not use and give to Goodwill, Salvation Army, or Craigs List for others to enjoy. emoticon

Now that Christmas has come & gone, are any of you going shopping tomorrow to look for any bargains???? I think we may go to a big flea market and hope it is open. Nan - I Know it is a little strange. But, I had told him that I like to bake these cookies with alcohol. He said he'd like to try it. So, I had made some and brought them in along with my Vanilla Bean Liqueur. Well, that has been that since then. Nan, glad your company made it in OK. Be safe on the roads. emoticon

Darla - I am so glad you made to your daughters house and that you are having a good time. emoticon

Val - I hope that you have a wonderful time visiting your family. Have a great time. emoticon

Pat - You sound like you had a lot of fun. I haven't since I was away to school in college. I had so much fun. You are luck to have the weather to be 70. emoticon

Sheryl - You have been so busy. I hope that you get it all done. You do so many wonderful things for so many. You are a true Christmas Angle. emoticon

Dusty - Wishing you a very Merry Christmas. emoticon

Well, I got everything delivered to everyone and got all my errors done. So, tomorrow I just have a pie and strawberry Santa to due. That shouldn't take me that long. I even have everything packed up for Christmas to take to my Aunt's. I am trying to stay ahead of the game right now. Come Christmas Day night this lady is passing out!

I hope that all you have a Wonderful and Merry Christmas ! emoticon emoticon

We went to see the Christmas lights tonight=went to 3 different locations. The best was Cottom Farms-even did the hayride there. Hadn't gone on a hayride in many, many years. Enjoyed it a lot. Great evening with wonderful friends. Perfect weather-about 70!
If any of you are interested, there is a u-tube video showing the lights. Check it out.

Well, finished the baking and made some spicy nuts. We are going to drop them off the goodies to the Dentist and my girlfriend. Then I made some things for my next door neighbor who helped us. And the neighbors across the way who have been really nice and had just moved in a month before us. So, I think I am done for now. Just have to call the dentist in the morning to be sure that they are in. We have a few errors to run in the morning and then I need to run to the store to pick a few things up to make dessert for Christmas day at my Aunt & Uncle's.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week! emoticon

Darla glad you arrived safely. Hope you have a wonderful time with them. Enjoy!!

Gail thanks for the idea of things to make ahead. I will keep that in mind for next year.

I finished my baking today. Now to do a little cleaning and go get a haircut tomorrow. I am hoping to be able to relax and enjoy the last couple of days before Christmas. We will have our community dinner Wed afternoon. Like our Thanksgiving dinner it is put on by our social club and volunteers prepare it and serve it. They always do a marvelous job. Those attending fill in the gaps with salads, appetizers, and dessertts and they do the main meal.

Have a wonderful week.

Hello Everyone,
Well I made it to Phoenix well El Mirage is where my daughter and granddaughter live. I fly in Friday and we went to wal mart yesterday to get groceries and last minute Christmas gifts. There was a lot of people fllying here friday and I think they were all shopping yesterday! Today we have just rested and relaxed. Erin made a wonderful vegetable soup with onions, carrots, brochi, potatoes and cheese. it was really good! Maddie made some snowflakes out of paper! I remember doing that when I was a kid too! So happy to be here with them for Christmas and Erin has taken off the whole week so I get to spend it with her too! I am so happy! Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas!

Penny- I will keep you in my prayers and I hope you find out more from the doctors what to do. My Mom had a lot of strokes and i know they are hard on you. Take care of yourself.

Hope everyone enjoys their time with family and friends!

Taking every day as a gift from God and being so thankful for my kids and my very funny granddaughter! Each day is a new day and I am thankful for it.

Val: Have a wonderful holiday with your parents. Will anyone else from your family be joining you?

Sandy: So sweet of you to go the extra mile for that family. Have a blessed Christmas.

Pat: When I made Christmas baskets as gifts I would include things that could be frozen or made long ahead: jam, sundae sauce, cookies, cheese balls, truffles. You might think about doing something like that next year. Then you won't have to rush and exhaust yourself. I just know that you and Bill will have a marvelous Christmas with your friends and neighbors. Will there be a big party at your community center?

Penny: You are in my prayers. Hope you have friends and family with you at Christmas.

Cook_ie, Dusty, Nan and Sheryl: Thinking of you all and wishing you a holiday filled with the music and magic of the season.

Enjoy each day.

Penny sending healing prayers your way.

Gail hope you enjoyed a relaxing day. I have to read at night when I go to bed-never seem to find time earlier in the day!

I am down to just 2 more loaves to bake and that job is done. I am going to figure out something else to do next year!! I did sleep in a bit this morning and took a 2 hr nap this afternoon-have been pushing hard and it is time to take a break.

We had record temps today-hit 87 this afternoon. Looks like another day or 2 of that before the cold front from up north makes its way down to us. Hoping it doesn't arrive till late Mon night as we plan to go see the Christmas lights Mon eve.

Enjoy your Sunday.

Penny - I am so very sorry for what has happen. My thought and prayers are with you. Listen to the doctors. You have a lot to be thankful for this Christmas. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas.

I got all 3 blankets done today and took them in to DH's friend to give to his kids. His has Twin boys and 1 of the boys has Autism and he also has 1 girl who is older. We just found out this summer that she has been battling cancer. I wanted to do something extra special for them and DH's friend is like a little brother to me.

I hope that everyone is having a great weekend.

I am absolutely wiped out tonight but certainly got a lot accomplished. I started my 1st loaf of bread about 6:30 and then moved on to mixing up apple cinnamon muffins. While they were baking, I mixed up my Dutch apple cake and divided that batter up into 5 small baking dishes so it would go further. Once all of that was out of the oven, it was off to the grocery store for items to make my taco casserole. Back home and I got that mixed up and ready to go in the oven. Vicky came to see if I had any extra flour and she & Bill told me I was crazy for doing all this baking. She said the bag of flour she left with meant that much less baking for me emoticon
I managed to give Abbie a bath in there too. Bill sat out so she could airdry. Roger came by and dropped off Cuddles. Ruthie was at the dr. She found out she has really bad arthritis and he put her back on Celebrex. I had invited them for lunch along with Vicky & Sonny. While I was putting things together, Bill started delivering things that were done. I even made two batches of store bought cookie dough. Using some of these items means less bread making!!
I am down to needing just 4 more loaves. Should finish up Sun and that means Mon & Tues I won't be a slave to that danged machine!
I couldn't put the casserole in the oven until the cookies were done and it has to bake for an hour or more so we didn't get to eat till after 1.
We took a break and played 1 game of Hand & Foot and amazingly the gals pulled a rabbit out of the hat in the last hand and beat the guys! They were double our score after the second hand and Bill said we should throw in the towel. Vicky told him it wasn't over till the last hand was played. We really didn't expect to win, but caught all 3 of them with their foot and they had 4 red threes which counts for 300 each against them! We ended up winning by just a little over 200 points! I think they are still in shock.
Everyone went home a little after 3 and I got the kitchen cleaned up and the 2nd loaf of bread got done. Send Bill back out to finish delivering and I crashed!!
Not going to push as hard tomorrow but still get 2 more loaves made!
Pat

Finished baking today and will have the 3 blankets sewn tomorrow. I can't believe I got it all done. Now, if DH will keep his hands off of them till I make everything up that would help me. I always make more than enough but, I like to put everything together so I am sure. As one year I had DH and my son eat half of it and I had put a very Big note on them saying "NOT TO EAT". But, they did. So, I have learned my lesson. HA! I really don't mind but, DH gets a little carried away with the sweets at Christmas and I have to watch him since he is borderline diabetic. He controls it with diet and exercise but, his drinking and sweets are not a good mix.

We received 2" of snow this morning and it is still here. They were expecting it to be washed out be this afternoon but, we did get some rain with snow even though it was about 37 degrees out. It felt more like 30. We will see what happens tonight.

Well, it looks like everyone has been very busy. Pat, my prayers are with you and DH in hopes that this doctor will be able to help him.

I hope that everyone has a great weekend.

"Vanilla ice cream rolled in toasted coconut, covered in chocolate sauce and topped with whipped cream." Resting on the very top is a fresh, ripe strawberry in Summer, or maraschino cherry at Christmas. The secret to this recipe is to well-coat your large scoop of ice cream with that incredible, crunchy, toasted coconut. And there's nothing like the sweet smell of freshly toasted coconut that will soon be wafting through your entire house, room by room. This is a good one to make when you want a quick dessert that totally satisfies.

Ingredients:
1 cup shredded coconut or use crushed peppermint candy cane

4 large scoops vanilla ice cream

1/2 cup Hershey chocolate syrup or Mrs. Richardson's Hot Fudge*

whipped cream (in a can)

4 large, ripe strawberries or maraschino cherries
* we use this

1. Preheat the oven to 300 degrees.
2. Spread the coconut over the bottom of the inside of a large oven pan. Shake the pan a little to spread the coconut evenly.
3. Bake the coconut for 25 minutes or until the coconut is a light, golden brown. You may have to stir or shake the coconut in the last 10 minutes to help it brown evenly.

4. When the coconut has cooled, pour it onto a plate, or into a large bowl. Roll each scoop of ice cream in the coconut or crushed candy cane until it is well coated. Press down on the ice cream to help the coconut or candy cane stick. Freeze for later use. When ready to serve...Put the ice cream into four separate bowls.
5. Heat up the chocolate syrup for 10-15 seconds in the microwave. Pour about two tablespoons over each scoop of ice cream. Try to completely cover the ice cream with chocolate.
6. Spray some whipped cream on the top of each scoop of ice cream.
7.Place cherry or strawberry on each serving; on the whipped cream. Serve with a spoon.
Serves four.
MERRY CHRISTMAS

Bread making is going-slowly but progressing-I just need to quit adding people to the list!!! I think tomorrow I will mix up my apple cake and divide it into smaller pans and use that for a few folks to help me get things done. I am getting up and starting a loaf at 6:30 so I can get two loaves done and still have a life!!
After I got my 1st loaf going this morning, I hopped back in bed and slept for another hour! I got in my walk today-decided I just had to do that and hopefully can get another one in tomorrow. Bill washed the sheets for me and we had another load that I put in.
We went out on the lake in Vicky & Sonny's pontoon at noon. The boat club sponsored a picnic on the lake today. We all took our own lunch and 3 pontoons went out on the lake. We got out in the middle and tied up to each other and listened to Christmas music while we ate our lunch. It was a fantastic day-water was like glass, no wind, sun was shining and about 74. It actually got too hot sitting there so we all went for a nice boat ride. We saw 4 gators, lots of turtles sunning themselves, a couple of osprey and an eagle. We were out on the lake from 12 to 3:15. Abbie got to go along - she loved it. When we got back my 2nd loaf of bread was finished.
Vicky & I went to Bealls after we got back. She needed to shop for a young man her daughter is mentoring (she works with kids with problems) and I wanted to exchange 2 shirts I had gotten for Bill. We both got things taken care of and I even found another shirt for DH. He now has 3 new ones for our cruise!
Gonna have a crazy busy day tomorrow-especially in the am. Will save that story for another day!
Pat

Today I visited a local park with a canoe launch, located on a savannah. The water birds were everywhere and so beautiful. The weather was perfect for being outside.

I will try to think of some books. My first guess would be Erma Bombeck and Bill Cosby. Seems like early Dave Barry, too. I am not sure if he stayed clean as far as language.
Art Linkletter had some oldies but goodies.

If this was your last day, how would you spend it?

Good Morning:

I'll be taking my neighbor to the airport in a few minutes. She is from upstate NY and will be with family at her mother's home for Christmas. How blessed I am to have her and her husband as neighbors. In fact, all my neighbor's are just great.

The soreness and black and blue marks are almost all gone and I'm back to exercising. Yesterday I rode the recumbent bike for 25 minutes and it was just fine.

Stay warm and safe everyone,

Gail

Darla: So glad you are feeling better. When I don't feel well sleep is my best medicine.

Pat: It's a relief to hear that this urologist is taking care of Bill. I will pray that Bill will not need surgery, hoping the medications will take care of everything.

COO_KIE: Are you aware of any other such funny books. I particularly like Sam Levenson because he was hilarious and NEVER used a four letter word. There can be great humor without smut.

Enjoy each day.

Harplute, I agree Everything but Money was one of the funniest books I ever read. I especially remember the Sunday dinner where all the kids were told not to have the main dish in order to have enough for guests, and then were not allowed to
have dessert because they did not eat the main dish.

Gosh, I haven't read that book for 30 years. I wonder if the library still has it.

If this was your last day, how would you spend it?

Hello Everyone,

Wow! So much baking going on! I use to bake a lot too at Christmas and at other times too but when I was diagnosed with Diabetes I gave up a lot of that. I still do it some but nothing like I use to. This year I just don't have the money to do it. I was able to just give my kids some money for Christmas and bought a pottery wheel and also a pot holder maker for my granddaughter . I hope she will like it. She has been making some bracelets and selling them to friends of my daughters so now she has two more things she can make. I had them as a kid and loved them and so did my kids so I hope she will like it.

I am feeling better than I was but just have slept for about a week now! I don't know why I am so tired. my knee still bothers me. I think I may have pulled a muscle or something. I am going to do physical therapy when I come back from Arizona. I leave Friday night at 4 pm to get to the airport by 7. I dont' know how long it will take on the bus so I am leaving early. I would rather wait in the airport than be late and miss my fight. Tomorrow I am going to get my shot for my Bipolar done and get back in time to get home for Chris my son to pick up my dog Betty. He is keeping her for the 9 days I will be gone to Arizona to my daughters for Christmas.

Today my daughter and her co workers waited until their boss went to lunch and they wrapped his entire office in Christmas paper ! It was funny! He really laughed about it and has a lot of unwrapping now to do to find his phone and computer! lol

Hope everyone has a good night!

Taking every day as a gift from God and being so thankful for my kids and my very funny granddaughter! Each day is a new day and I am thankful for it.

Update on DH-saw the surgeon this afternoon and really liked him. He spent about 20-25 min explaining things after he asked a lot of questions. He is putting him back on a strong antibiotic for urinary tract infections and gave him samples of an analgesic for the urinary tract. He will see him again on the 30th and do another scope and at that time decide if surgery is warranted. He has 2 prostrate stones-1 large and 1 small according to the last urologist. However, this guy wants to come to his own conclusions (even thought he previously was partners with the other dr for 9 yrs!). He told Bill he would get to the bottom of things and get him feeling better. Left there feeling a little bit better but until he gets to feeling good and stays that way I guess we won't get to celebrating much!!!
I got 2 more loaves of bread made today and 3 people have been gifted. I am hoping I can get 2 more done tomorrow. I am finding it hard to get it done with trying to do other activities. I got up early so I could get a loaf started before we went to breakfast this morning. It got done about 11 and I started the next loaf about 1 so it would get done about 5 as I wasn't sure when we would get back from the dr appt. which was 2:45. I plan to get another loaf going early tomorrow.
Besides baking bread, I deadheaded one area of roses by our clubhouse, I did some paperwork (matched my visa stmt with receipts and called in the payment, did the pill boxes for the week, did my ironing and cleaned our bathroom. I for one will be glad to get thru the holidays!

DH's back is still bothering him and he is in pain as he is cranky. Which is not fun. I ran errors today. Then got laundry done while DH insisted on vacuuming. I think he had a couple of drinks while I was gone as he becomes argumentative. And he refuses to see the doctor or take anything for his back except have a drink. But, he is keeping track of his drinking as he does telling me how many he has.
I am doing just fine and keeping myself busy.

Hope everyone in having a great week. emoticon

Gail I only wish I were done-2 loaves done and 12 more to go! Went for more supplies today. Hopefully I can get 2 done tomorrow-thanks to someone for the tip about baking them in the oven-may try that! I think I will see if it says anything about that in the instruction book.
Today we were off early with 2 other couples to a state park-Deleon Springs-it has The Old Sugar Mill Restaurant there. You fix your own pancakes there, they supply pitchers of batter-regular and whole grain and you cook them on a griddle in the middle of the table. A unique experience. The others enjoyed it (we have been several times as we like to take visitors there since it is something different). We had hoped to see manatees today but none were in in the morning. They come into the springs when it is cold out.
This afternoon I baked again. Plan to get up early and get a loaf in before leaving for breakfast and then get a 2nd going before we go to DH's appt. with the surgeon. Will see how that shakes out!

Wow! You are all so busy, I feel guilty having it all behind me. I have two more Christmas gifts to give and they are ready and waiting.

Sandy: How your DH feels better soon.

Sheryl: So nice of you to make such lovely gifts.

Pat: You all done baking? I know Santa will be sooo good to you for all you do for your neighbors and DH. Take care, dear friend.

Darla: Hope you are doing better.

Nan: Are you all done with Christmas preparations, gifts and baking? Will you kids be coming to your house for the holidays?

Enjoy each day.

Today a county commissioners meeting first thing, then home to more candy making. I am using 80% cocoa for the best tasting and healthiest. These are the Xmas presents for the adults in the family. One thing I can count on for them all to like. I had intended to make all copper jewelry which I posted on an earlier blo. the instructor was injured and just now back to holding classes, I am still learning, so not enough time for me.

Pat - Don't feel bad I was going to start my baking this weekend but, DH back went out so I need to really help him. I am going to start it tomorrow as I need to get them out no later than the 20th.

Gail - that is wonderful that you got all of that for only $28 and some change.

Cookie - The people I had know in Calif. unfortunately did get in trouble for fraud and most of the items were recovered. But, it is sad that there are people out there that will do things like that. That is Why it is important to do little Acts of Kindness to remind people that there is still good people out there and hopefully they will Pass It On. Here in the Northwest it happens a lot for example I had my Hot Chocolate bought for me at Starbucks. The girl at the counter said it has been going on for 2 days now. So, I gave her $10 and said lets not let stop it's the Holidays! It feels good when it happens.

I did get a few errors done today and got 2 packages off to the people that bought items on Ebay. I also picked up something to eat for us since DH is still not doing to well. Going to try to get to the store tomorrow as I have a Rx to pickup. It was a really good Monday.

Hope everyone had a great day.

Many bread machines have settings so you can mix the dough and do the first rise......then transfer to a loaf pan and bake in the oven. You could shorten the machine time, and maybe put out one loaf every 2 hours. (Overlapping the baking in the oven time while the machine bakes another. Also, you don't have a paddle sticking in the bottom of the loaf when it is done.

The bread sounds delicious!

Gail I find the surest way to gain the weight back is knowing I have those larger clothes waiting in the wings! If I give them away, I have the incentive to not gain it back since I won't have anything to wear!!!
Well I made my 1st loaf of bread in the bread machine. It has now been gifted to our neighbor who is a widower. DH said he was quite thrilled to get a warm loaf of bread. I made cherry almond and it turned out reasonably well. The loaf stuck to the paddle so had a hole in the bottom so I cut that off and we sampled it before taking it to him. I have a 2nd loaf in there now, BUT I realized about 45 min into things that I didn't put the egg in there so not sure how this loaf will turn out! Oh well, I will get this down soon (I hope). I have 13 more loaves to make before Christmas!!!! Since it takes 4 hrs to make one, I best keep that thing going BUT I have other commitments so will just have to see how things go. Some may get their bread after Christmas!
Hope you have all had a Marvelous Monday.

Good Afternoon:

Got myself some fuzzy slipper socks this morning at the mall. It was 8am and virtually no shoppers were there. (I hate crowds.) Then I ran a few errands. I'm back now and will read after I take care of a few things.

Got to tell you about my big FIND. Savers (Easter Seals Thrift Store) had a 50% off clothing today and 25% off non-clothing items. OMG! I got a candle, two dressy dresses, two bras, one terry bathing suit cover-up, and 3 winter night gowns/robes...all for $28 and change. The stuff I have is all too big and I look like a clown. This past week I lost another pound, but the thing of it is I'm afraid to give the big clothes away just yet. I believe this time things will be OK since I'm off gluten and sugar and eat VERY little dairy. But......

Hope you are all staying safe and well.

Gail

Stay warm and safe everyone.

Gail

It is hard to know what the situation is, perhaps the person with the old beater had a huge family at home to feed or was picking up for those with no transportation. Times are so hard for some, between the gas prices, rent and so many other things, they need all the help they can get.

It is a shame that so many do try to scam the system. I know they have to sign up here to receive help so I am hoping that that is so they can compare with other groups to be sure there are no duplicates. I agree with another of you-I always try to support St. Judes, The Salvation Army and down here we have The Orland Sentinel Fund-no money goes for administration, they match your funds by 50% and keep it in the area. I think we all need to be alert and make sure our money does the most good.
We are having a fundraiser on Jan 4 for one of our residents. I like to support things like this-we know our money is going to do good then.
I am getting ready to make bread as gifts for friends in our community. I have never used a breadmaker so with me luck. I have picked out 3 different recipes I hope to make. I will give 1/2 loaves to some of the single folks. I used to make cookies with a friend for 2-3 days and we gave out trays of cookies but so many are now diabetic that I have stopped making sweets. Hoping the carbs in the bread won't be too bad. Last Christmas I made up jars of soup with instructions of how to cook (I had all the ingredients in the jar, they just had to add liquid). Hoping to finish up Christmas stuff this week so I can relax the following week.

All through the year, our local churches have food boxes. people can come get them, no questions asked. There is a habitual 'offender' who pulls up in a big old car, opens the trunk, and has us put the box in with 4-5 other boxes she had picked up at other churches.
Then there is a guy who drove up in an SUV, dressed well. He asked for a box and started to cry. He had lost his job, been trying every single day to get any kind of work, and he had simply run out of groceries for his family and had no idea what else to do. (Months later, he brought money to repay and pay it forward. You just can't judge.)
But, it is so hard knowing who is scamming the system, and who is a victim of the economy.

If this was your last day, how would you spend it?

I only donate to certain charities like Danny Thomas and Salvation Amy. I have see families in Calif. have gotten cars full of stuff. And some of the families didn't even need the help which was really sad. In the Northwest they make sure that each family & Charity is equally taken care of.

Well, DH thinks his back is trying to go out and he is to play golf tomorrow. Hoping that he will be able to as he will be the last time for a while. We are excepting a big storm to come in starting Tuesday. Well, I sold 4 items on EBay this week and have 2 more that are about to sell. It is the best I have done is a while. I still have a few more items that I still need to put on. Plus I have some bins still to go though. So, we will see what happens.

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

I did hear that this year the Salvation Army and others in our area are comparing lists of guests at Christmas parties to be sure as many families as possible are being served. They explained that the need is so great, they simply cannot duplicate.

Sad, but some people will always try to 'beat the system.' The person I mentioned is no longer able to do this, due to custody changes.

COO_KIE:

I am shocked that one family got so much. A lot of people who give don't have that much themselves. You have got to wonder if those recipients deserve anything with such greed. There's just so much to go around and if they are getting triple, some folks are getting nothing.

I prefer to give cash directly to those who are living on a shoe string. For years I gave to a local social service agency. I wanted to by anonymous and I wanted the recipient to be anonymous. I requested that ALL of my donation go straight to the recipient; the only restriction was no booze no tobacco. One year it went to pay for health care premiums, another time it went for medications, a third time it went for clothing, etc.

This month, when I was in Mexico, I learned that everyone, except those at the highest levels, gets paid by the day. They usually make $5-$7 a day! Those who work at all inclusive resorts get a tiny bit of the guests' daily rate for their "tips". Sometimes guests tip them in addition. Bellboys and the bar tender at the lounge bar are the only ones that get tips fairly regularly. Others rarely get additional tips. I left something at every meal at the restaurants and every morning for the chambermaid. Before I left I gave an extra something to some of the waiters who served me often. At the airport I gave a tip to the woman who kept the ladies room immaculate. I don't like to give through organizations. With few exceptions, so much money goes to the administrative staff, and I'm not interested in supporting their fat salaries.

G

Enjoy each day.

Val, I understand about the electronic gifts. On that line, we are now in the season of the giving trees, and charity children's parties. About 5 years ago, an extended family member signed up...not for one party for her kids, but for every function possible. It happened that year that her family was also selected as the family her church 'adopted.' There were 3 kids at the time. They got boxes from 3 sources that included full holiday meals. One box was turkey and all the trims, hot and prepared.
One party gave a porcelain doll to the 8 year old as one of 4 expensive gifts for each kid.
The church gave coats and a winter wardrobe for each, toys, money to both the adult and each kid. No exaggeration....the van was stuffed.
It feels good to give, especially around the holidays.. And, no one wants to see anyone do without. But, somehow there needs to be a control. At least one centralized list so one organization can see where another is helping that family. No one would hopefully fall through the cracks, but it would not be excessive in December, only to do without come May if the situation has not changed.
I think part of the blame falls on the excesses in society, advertising, many things. I never considered myself poor, not even in hindsight. We had packages under the tree. We knew all except 2 were stuff we needed that they wrapped up...mittens, underwear, socks. We girls got a doll, and we all got an 'art box.' Our grandmother made us our own shoebox full of homemade cookies, wrapped in red tissue with a white crinkly ribbon bow. (My favorite gift.)
My parents would NEVER charge a penny for Christmas. We would go to school the week after school resumed, and though some kids had more total than we did, it was because they had more family members giving. People just were not likely to do any more than a bike as far as a major gift. (And that was often second hand.) Charging was unheard of. Make do or do without.
I really thing we are doing a disservice by uncontrolled giving. Note, I am referring to organizations that seem to be giving so they get credit, not individuals giving to the organizations or to other individuals. What if those same organizations gave more modest toys, and a gift card for heat? Or some gifts for the kids, and a fund to be used for disaster relief during the year. Once a kid gets a certain amount of presents, each loses its value. (One doll is special....4 dolls mean 3 get put aside as 'not my favorite.') Just my opinion.

If this was your last day, how would you spend it?

Good Morning:

Hope everyone is doing better today. I finally finished my book yesterday and will start another today. The house is now spic n' span so I can relax. I hated it that the house had not been thoroughly cleaned for a few weeks. Every time the ladies from hospice, or Travis come there are bits of paper and dust on the floor. UGH!

May go to the mall today to get myself some fluffy sox. My granddaughter gave me a pair for my birthday a couple of years ago. I got myself a pair last year and they are sooo comfortable. They have little plastic circles on the bottom so you cannot slip, and they are soft and washable. I wear them as slippers and often wear them under boots when I go out. When it is really cold I wear them to bed. I have some old ratty stuff that is very comfortable and warm, so I hate to give them up. They are not even good enough for Good Will. If I go to the mall maybe I'll find a comfortable warm robe and flannel night gown. Wonder if Walmart or Kohl's has that stuff.

Stay warm and happy,

Gail

Sheryl: I like home made gifts the best. What kind of candy are you making? Do you also do cooking, baking, crafts, knit or sew for gifts?

Pat: What kind of bread are you making? Is it for Christmas gifts?

Val: My daughter was a Big Sister in town many years ago. It really bothered her that the child to whom she was a big sister only wanted things or to do things that were costly. She didn't have much herself. There is a big problem with our society whereby Madison Avenue sets the pace for commercialism, and, of course, that involves lots of expensive stuff. You are right to get the things you are contemplating. Electronics are way out of the ball park.

Darla: Hope you are feeling better.

Enjoy each day.

I am starting my Christmas candy making today. This year it is my "make it" gift for the family. I will probably need several days to complete, but this is day one.

One of the women who works with me went to the biggest shopping mall in the city and chose 3 names off of a giving tree kind of thing. (Can't remember what they called it.) Two people took one child upon themselves and the rest of us are sharing one kid. There's a list of things he wants/needs. Shirt, pant, shoe sizes, that sort of thing. The toy that he (?) wants is called (I think) iTunes maps, or iSomething maps, anyway. I'm having a hard time believing that this part of the request is from him, kind of thinking that maybe his mom wrote this one. emoticon I don't like to give kids computer related gifts, and these days I guess not phone related gifts, either. I like to give them gifts that they can get active with or learn something from. So tomorrow or Monday I'm going to go buy a soccer ball for him and maybe some books. That's making me feel a little bit better about the Christmas season. It doesn't have to be about me being unhappy this year. Much better to think about making a 7 year old kid happy this Christmas. emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

Ladies I took a pass today and didn't do much of anything-just didn't feel great so thought it was time to recharge my batteries!! I did walk and gave Abbie a bath today. I am wondering if her Buffalo Blue is part of her allergy problem so now researching to see about switching to something else. She has so many little scabs on her back and she does not want me to pull them off. Something has to be done and I sure hate to give her steroids.
I have quite a list for the coming week so going to have to get my energy level up and get with the program!! I made my list for my bread making so have to get my ingredients and we will see how this turns out! Wish me luck.
We had a brief shower about 6:39 and then a tornado watch was issued for a county east of us. Looks like we could have rain off and on all night-at least I hope so as we really need it. Abbie knew it was coming almost 30 min before it happened-got on my lap and shook. Knew then it was coming.
Hope all of you have had a good Saturday.
Gail good for you keeping the new coffee pot and donating your old one that was still good-you deserve new things!
Darla your progressive dinner sounds really nice. Glad you enjoyed it but sorry you hurt yourself. Hope it isn't broken.
Sandy sounds like you are busy baking. Yum, yum.
Val I hope going to see your parents will help lift your spirits. Holidays can be really hard on one. I miss my family as none are down here so I have found that by getting involved and trying to help others it makes me feel good and lifts my spirits.
Pat

Sandy:

Your goodies for your Christmas baskets sound delicious. I used to make jam filled butter cookies, crescents with powdered sugar, pate, rhubarb/raspberry sundae sauce, cheese spreads and truffles. I haven't done that in several years. I went from going all out to buying things and putting them in a basket or holiday shopping bag. Now I just do that for a couple of people. I don't have whatever it takes to do anything but write checks. Many people I know really need the money and, much as they'd love the basket, I know the check will help them a lot.

G.

Enjoy each day.

Sheryl - That is wonderful that you get to do that. It sounds like a lot of fun.

Gail - DH had a drum set when he was really Young but, he hasn't played in years. He has always drummed on everything and drove me crazy. I have earplugs now . HA! I love to bake at Christmas and I just start. I make Northwest mix nut that everyone likes and asks for every year. Then there are my alcohol cookies sugar cookies with rum, snicker doodles with Hazelnut, brownies with Kahlua. I also make a Vanilla bean liqueur. I make up a box or basket for each person and fill a bags of goods and place them inside. I really enjoy doing it and each person really love it. My Dentist really loves the nuts and liqueur.

Val -I am sorry you are having a hard time this Holiday season. But, I am so glad that you are getting to go home for Christmas. Have a wonderful time.

Darla - Sorry you are not feeling good. I hope that you start to feel better soon. Your dinner sounded like a lot of fun.

Pat - That was a wonderful thing that you did in helping out Toys for Tots. We have a big drive here.

We had our old neighbors over last night and had a great time. It was really good to see them and catch up on what has been going on. Today we are just relaxing and taking it easy as we watch the rain come down and the smell of cookies.

I know that this time of year is hard on people due to the lost of love ones. I know for me it is always hard but, I always look at it as a way of remembering the good memories and the fun times of the years gone by. And especially remembering the traditions of our family Christmas like watching our favorite Christmas program on Christmas eve.

So, What are some of your Family Christmas Traditions?

I hope that everyone is have a fun weekend. emoticon

This has been a busy month to date and it seems to have been about food. As a member of the Culinary Arts Council in our school district I am expected to attend all events. This past week was the competition between our area high schools culinary art programs. These young chefs out did many of the professional competitions I have attended.
This morning I attended an annual breakfast prepared by one of our members husband. Mouthwatering, (including a cake baked by one of the students and won at a silent auction) A little difficult to track calories while attending these events, but so tasty. I do not think I went over my allowance on any of it, though.

Val: So good to have you back. I'm so sorry you have the Christmas blues. Two women on another team have got it bad too. Try to do things that lift your spirits or divert your attention from the sadness you feel.

Darla: Sorry you are ill again this year. Take good care of yourself.

Pat: It's great that you got all the cards done. What a relief that must be! Good for you for getting yourself a gift. I found a brand new coffee maker in the basement that wasn't even removed from the box. That was my present to myself. I gave the old one...which was in perfect working order...to Hospice.

Sandy: What are your weekend plans? Do you bake cookies for Christmas?

Sending you all hugs,

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Sorry I haven't been participating recently. The holidays have really been getting me down this year and I just haven't felt like I've had anything worth saying for a little while. My job has been getting me down, too, but I'll be visiting my parents for 4 days over Christmas so I've got something to look forward to. I just wanted to stick my nose in to let everyone know that I'm alive and well. Hopefully I'll be back to my usual "talkative" self soon.

There was much rejoicing!

Hello Everyone,
Wow! Everyone is so busy! I don't know how all of you can keep up with all that you do especially you Pat! I use to be really super busy like that as a single mom and going to college and working and I ended up having a few nervous breakdowns in my life and I finally learned how to slow down and not do so much and just enjoy staying at home and relaxing some. It is less stressful. Take some time for yourself Pat so you don't overdo it.

I have been in bed sick the last 2 days just getting bronchitis like I do this time of year. I hate being sick and on top pf that when I went to the Progressive Dinner the other night at the church we were climbing in and out of the bus which is a old school bus and the steps are really steep and I did something to my knee. I am having a MRI done on it Monday if I have timeto go by if not Tues and see what is wrong and do some physical therapy. The dr said it could be slightly fractured so I will see. I ride the bus everywhere so I have not gone anywhere and tried to just rest but may have to get out tomorrow to go to the urgent care for some antibiotics and to wa mart for the rest of my meds and some soup. Chicken noodle soup always makes me feel better but I am out right now.

I really had fun with the progressive dinner! There were 28 women and we went to 3 houses and then to the church for dessert so it was a lot of fun! I like my new church because we have a lot of activities for the women and just making some new friends. I don't really have any friends here in San Antonio and all my friends are married and have their own families so I rarily get to talk to them. I wish I had gotten remarried when I had the chance to several times over the years I have been divorced but it just didn't seem like the right man for me or my kids over the long haul so I backed out of it . I do have a good male friend I go to church with now I would love to date but I don't think he wants that for some reason and I am afraid to ask him why so I just enjoy his friendship.

well take care everyone. Have fun getting ready for Christmas!

Taking every day as a gift from God and being so thankful for my kids and my very funny granddaughter! Each day is a new day and I am thankful for it.

Good Night-
I seem to never get on here during the day-hustle and bustle all day! Today was errand day after my walk. Vicky & I combined our efforts and had a good time doing the necessary things. We did our good deed-I had gathered a lot of "new" items and we purchased more at Dollar Tree for the "Be a Santa to a Senior". They need items that cannot be bought with food stamps so we took in 8 bags full of things. I had a new lap throw I had won and never used, dad had about a dozen bottles of hand lotion so I donated some of them, I buy bath shower gel when I can get it on sale so also donated several of those, I had a nice Bath & Body set I had never used as I didn't care for the scent so that also went, they wanted towels and I had 2 new sets from Dad-I hope it helps to make a brighter Christmas for someone who has no one to help them. I had never heard of this but it seems it is something that a lot of home health care agencies sponsor all over the country. They know the folks who have needs. Hospice is getting involved and they are having a wrap party for the gifts on Tues. We all hear about the Toys for Tots drive but this gets little recognition, I just caught a small article in our newspaper that they were in need so I called to see whaat they needed. We both felt better after we left the office.
Bill & I took the last of the cards to the post office and now they are all on their way to their final destination. After that as we were close, we stopped by some friends for a short visit. As it was getting close to dinner we didn't want to stay too long.
All in all a good day if busy. On the way home from their house I stopped at Bath & Body and purchased my favorite scent in cologne and bath gel (had a coupon to get a free item up to $13 if I spent $10). Merry Christmas to me!

Good Morning:

I have a 6 month dental cleaning and check up today and that's all that is firmly on the agenda. I might just go to the basement and clean up some of the junk that needs to be tossed. Also, I have to segregate the stuff for Savers (Easter Seals) from the stuff I give to hospice. Hopefully, this weekend I'll take books and records to the used book store. I have to clean up and organize sections of the basement. Not a fun job but I'll do it slowly.

Well, I went to the store yesterday and got a couple of more things for the Christmas basket I give to my friend every year. This year she is getting crackers, cheeses, chocolate and a gift certificate to her favorite supermarket. I think she'll love it.

Hoping to finish my book today MURDER ON FIFTH AVENUE, by Michael Jahn.

Sending hugs,

Gail

Pat: I always write a note specific to the recipient. It takes time but it means something. Glad you have that behind you. How about setting aside some time for yourself?

Sheryl: Do you live in Florida?

Sandy: Does your DH know about the drums?

Val: Where are you? Is everything all right? We haven't heard from you in quite a while.

Enjoy each day.
