Val, so glad that you finally got a good night's sleep. Amazing what being rested will do for a person.
Gail it sounds like another busy day for you. Glad you were able to go out and enjoy dinner with a friend. Great job on sticking with you new way of eating. I was off so many things for several months and then gave in and now have to eliminate it all again! Keep it up and make it work for you.
Sandy it sounds like you are going to have your work cut out for you-or at least your painter is. That will be quite a job painting over those bright colors. Looking forward to seeing pics. Are you going to take before and after pics to show us????
It was another crazy day here-I had planned to start working on setting things out to pack, but never got to that. I got in my walk and afterwards Vicky & I went and put the decoration into the storage area to get them out of my way. While we were loading up, Hilda (a friend) came by with one of our park decorations that she given a sprucing up by painting it with a fresh coat of paint. Looks really nice now. She also made me a fall wreath for my birthday and gave me 2 wreaths she made for fall decorations. One is a Halloween theme and the other is a fall one. She does really good work-very crafty.
I managed to mix up some weed killer and got the weeds in our rocks sprayed. I have to do that every 4-6 weeks. Hopefully this will keep the weeds at bay for awhile.
DH & Sonny took a trip to the east side of Orlando to get us a battery charger for our golf cart as ours died! This is a used one and less than 1/2 of what a new one would cost. This one is from a 2007 cart that was wrecked. They had a terrible time-the guy didn't give them the right address and the GPS could not find him. Then he had a terrible time giving them directions on the phone. They almost gave up and came home without it!!! They left just before 11 and it is about an hour to there but it was 10 to 3 by the time the got back and we were supposed to go out to dinner with 6 other couples at 3! They cut it close but we made it.
While they were gone, I was doing the weeds, I did my ironing, got the pills done up for 2 weeks, called and set up our credit charge payment and called our insurance company and managed to get our rate down by over $100! So much to do and so little time to do it. By the time we got back, it was after 6 and time to water.
While I was spraying today, I encountered a rat snake. Of course I screamed and my neighbor came over with her little dog in her arms. We aren't sure where it went but it disappeared and that is the main thing!!!! Hopefully it kept on going.
Going to be busy the next 3 days but will get it done!
Pat

evening ladies, how is everyone/ Good I hope, I am pooped, I got off work and drank 2 cups of coffee to help keep me up past 9:00 for a change, and then I ate dinner and sat down to watch a movie and nest thing I know I am waking up an hour later. LOL so much for the coffee keeping me awake. Oh well I must have been more tired than I thought.
Well have a good weekend.

Good Evening:

What a day! Travis came at 8:30 am and stayed for three hours. He left with a van load of stuff for the next auction and will be coming on Tuesday again to take yet more things. After he left Dave came to clean. I went to the book store with 5 boxes of books and also to the hospice thrift store to donate items that did not sell on the auction. I was so short on time today I only had an apple, some blueberries, 1/2 avocado and black coffee, so I was ready for dinner. My friend, Ann, and I went to a nearby restaurant. I could have eaten the plate and the napkin I was so hungry. It wasn't difficult getting what I needed. I had a burger without the cheese and the bun and without the fries. Instead, I had salad and roasted asparagus. Good choice. I also had some wine which I didn't enjoy. I just got it to have something till the food came.

I'm down about 10 pounds this month since I stopped the gluten and cut back on the dairy and eggs. Over the last week or two I've cut out deli, eggs and dairy. Now I need to slowly reintroduce foods to see what doesn't work for me. It's going so well I'm almost afraid to test stuff.

Wishing you all sweet dreams,

Gail

Enjoy each day.

I just can't believe September is just around the corner ladies. Where has the time gone.

So, Here it is - Anyone have any Ideas for Challenges for September.

Work started today on the house with the cleaning of the roof. There was some moss on the roof and the gutters needed to be cleaned. We got the price on the painting of the house and the was $ 5000 due to the bold colors that he is going to have to cover. Plus the red has sparkles in the paint. So, that is about what we expected. The walls in the home look like they have not been painted since they moved in.

I worked around the rental today and patched hole and touched up paint on the walls. I started cleaning each room as we pack it up.

Well, need to run some errors. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Hey, before I head off to bed I want to give you guys this link that a friend sent to me. It's for a site that will tell you how to make homemade laundry detergent. I'm going to give it a try once I can find a friend who can give me two empty one gallon milk bottles. (I do not drink milk so the best I've got are half gallon bottles.)

Gail, you talk about Pat doing so much but when I read what you are doing these days I get exhausted just thinking about it. emoticon You have worked so hard and been such a trooper that I can definitely understand why you need vacations from time to time. I've got so much less to organize and throw away, and yet I'm getting very little of that done right now. You are my hero and I'm really proud of you for the way that you have tackled all of this mess since Vic's death. I hope you have a really great time on your cruise.

As for me, last night I got the first decent night's sleep I've had after a full day's work since I changed my schedule. It's amazing how much better I feel and how much easier it is to take my job when I've actually slept. Hopefully I'll keep on sleeping well like I did last night.

I hope that you all have a really great Friday.

There was much rejoicing!

Sandy it sounds like you are on overdrive on getting everything done-hope they all are fast workers!! I just bet the house does smell. We have stayed in some motels where it reeked and our boxer hated it!
Gail you earned a down day after yesterday. Hope you were able to really relax.
I walked and did a little gardening before getting cleaned up and Vicky, Sonny, DH & I headed out for a shopping trip. We went to Pottery Barn and bought quite a bit of decorations for the park for Halloween/fall. We were gone from 10 till 5. Fun day out.
Gotta start thinking about packing for our trip - so much to do and I am dragging my feet and not sure why!!!

Nan - It is rainy and muggy here in the Northwest too.

Meet the Painter this morning at 11am instead of 12pm. He will e-mail me the price later today. But can start on Sept 7th. I have my Agents husband starting tomorrow. Carpet people coming Saturday and they will install on Sept 10th. I have Coit coming to clean the Air Ducts on Sept. 6th. I have a gas guy coming out this week or beginning of next week to put in a gas line for our gas dryer.

That is only what we have been able to do today. I still have to go to Lowe's and order a Refrig, Water Heater, Range Top, dish washer(?), Shelves, Cabinet, counter top for Master Vanity, 2 sinks & faucets for Master, Knobs for cabinets, New front door lock & a few little things. The dish washer we looked at today. It is 11 yrs old and I am a little nervous about it. I know the inspector said it was good but, you just never know. And with everything smell like curry and India spices it is overwhelming. With fresh paint and new carpet and good cleaning it will be much better.

How that everyone had a great and relaxing weekend.

Good Evening:

Didn't do anything today except fold some laundry and pack three boxes of books and office supplies. I guess yesterday really tired me out. I think I'll kick back and watch some 1930s movies I recorded.

G.

Pat: OMG! listening to all you do tires me out. LOL I know what you mean about having the kids over. It always takes a major effort when they leave to clean up, and it's exhausting.

Sandy: Good luck on Monday. Sounds exciting. I push the panic button every time I need to buy anything. Vic chose everything and even arranged the furniture. When I had my kitchen painted a few years back, it took me two weeks to decide what color white to paint the kitchen! I dread picking out new flooring. I'm so afraid I'm going to pick something I won't like once it's down.

Work starts Monday on the house. I am meeting the painter tomorrow to see when he can start and go over the colors. Friday we are ordering the New Refrig and Range top. Meeting the Carpet guy on Saturday to pick out the new carpet. We are using Empire. I have used them before and really liked them.

Pat, in answer to your question yes, we are going to do all the work first and we will move in. We are planning on moving in on Sept. 15th.

Tammy - Really glad that you are not close to the fires. Did here how the winds are taking the smoke from Calif. into Idaho though.

Gail - Your cruise sounds wonderful. I hope you have a wonderful time. Vic sounds just like my DH. Which is good as they save us money. We take out shoes off when we come into our house too. It just keeps everything fresh and clean.

Well, Gals I getting down to the end of the packing finally and I am glad. I am starting to get excited as things start to come together and can't wait to get things over there and unpacked and put into place.

Hope everyone had a great week and will have a wonderful Labor Day weekend. emoticon

Sandy it sounds like things are moving right along. Are you going to do all the changes or painting or whatever you plan to do to the house before you move in?? How soon will you be moving in (target date)? I bet you are excited to finally be close to moving!!! I have a cousin who is moving to be closer to his daughter and her family and it has totally stressed him out. Today was to be the big move so don't expect to hear from him for a few days until he is all settled in and they have his computer set back up for him.
Tammy-glad to hear that the fire is not near to you. We have been out west when the fires were raging and it isn't pleasant to be near the smoke. I certainly feel so sorry for those losing their homes.
Gail I know you will be so relieve to get this all behind you and it sounds like you are making plans for when it is all cleaned out. How exciting to get an update to everything. It will make it seem like a totally new house. I love making little changes to our home. We haven't rushed to get things done-just pick a major project every year but this year it ended up being 2 because we had a problem with our shower. Next year we plan to do the other shower. We were lucky the former owners had pretty much redone everything in here so there was no rush.
Today has been a bit more relaxed. We were both so tired yesterday evening that we went to bed at 10 and slept like a couple of logs. It is like the kids just suck the life out of you trying to make sure you entertain them, cook, keep up with all the towels, etc. I guess I could have let it wait but I don't like letting things pile up!! Hard to be a Virgo and let things go-ha ha. They are still in St. Pete enjoying the beach-will have to drive straight thru tomorrow to get home in time to turn the car in by Fri morning or pay a penalty. I am glad they are enjoying it over there. This is probably the last vacation they will take with their daughter-she turns 19 in Sept so ......glad they are making memories.
I walked early and then worked int he park gardens for about 90 min and filled 2 big buckets. I will try to do some more tomorrow to hopefully try to keep ahead of the weeds. Vicky & I stay busy that is for sure. Afterwards I got cleaned up and DH & I went to Kohls (he thought he wanted a new pr of Levis but he didn't like any of them!). He says they don't make jeans the way they used to. Afterwards we went to Walgreens and I got more of my eye vitamins. They were bogo - well the 2nd one was 50% off. I had 2 coupons to use-one for $5 off and the other for $4 off and I had enough points that I could take $50 off so got them pretty much free!!!! Now I have to build my points up again. Those vitamins are not cheap-$34.99 a bottle for a 2 month supply. I am good for 6 months now so will have time to save up points before my next purchase.
We stopped at the bank to cash the check for DH's medical expense I had such a fit about. His insurance paid us so I have paid the bill to the dr.
I got the ironing caught up when we got back and at 3 there were 12 of us who went to dinner at a fish restaurant. Now we are heading to Bonfire-our monthly hot dog roast but I won't eat anything.
Have a great evening.
Pat

Good Morning:

I've got a busy day today: four volunteers are coming from hospice to take furniture (bookcases and shelving) and other things such as vintage clothing, framed prints, coffee table books, etc. On Friday Travis will come to take away a van full of stuff for his on line auction.

Several of you have asked about my upcoming trip. It's a 16 day cruise from Copenhagen to NY. Our ports of call will be in Norway, Scotland, Ireland, Iceland, Greenland, and Canada. I will fly home from NYC. Usually when I travel I don't check baggage because I'm afraid of its getting lost. However, this time I will check at least one bag, maybe two. One of the problems is that the weather will be quite different throughout the trip and with temperatures in the 40s in some areas I'll need to take some bulky things. We'll see. I still haven't decided on the clothing. Also, typically on a cruise, they have a formal night. Because this trip is so long there will be 3 formal nights. I've got some things I can take and they won't take up much room, but I'll need to take at least 3 pairs of shoes (dressy, casual and walking) and a pair of flip flops. Those will take a lot of space.

I went to see the lawyer yesterday and finally have all that legal beagle stuff that has to be done upon a spouse's death behind me. A lawyer won't be needed until I die and I've made it so that things will go smoothly for my kids. This is a great relief. Once I dispose of all of Vic's things there should be no problems for them. They will only have to deal with the house, a car, normal furniture and household items, two TVs and a computer and printer...things they can easily donate, keep or sell. There will be no collections. Hopefully, I'll be done within a year and a half.

Once Vic's stuff is gone I will definitely get new floors throughout the house as all of them are 35 years old. I'll probably also have the inside of the house painted. With the exception of the entire kitchen and the bathroom ceilings which were painted once, my house was never painted in the 35 years I've been here. Also, all the window treatments are the originals. In case you think that my house is gross, it's not. We've never had pets, never smoked, always took our shoes off upon entering the house, and never damaged the interior walls. Everything is very clean and that makes a difference, a very big difference. Now, however, I'd like a change and I think new floors and a fresh coat of paint would do a lot. Depending on costs I might also eventually update the bathrooms. It would be very nice but not essential as all the original Kohler fixtures still function well and the vanities are dated but in the same condition as when the house was built. One of the reasons everything is in such good shape is because of Vic's OCD. Everything had to be perfectly maintained and he did it all himself. Well, at this point, that care has been very good for me.

Got to get started with my day so I'll sign off for now. Catch you all later.

Gail

Evening ladies,
It sounds like we are all pretty busy with life and family and jobs, and canning, Copper you must have a large garden, we get 3 or 4 quarts every 3 days or so on our tomatoes ( of course the majority of mine are cherry type plants) and even less than that on our cucumbers, they are not growing nearly as well as the tomatoes. And our zucchini has slowed down some also, although I have not been giving it away or cooking it nearly as much, so its starting to pile up, I have a friend who gives it to the firemen so I think I will give her a call.

Happy belated Birthday Pat, that is a very nice surprise for you, how nice.

Sandy I live in Caldwell, just about 30 miles outside of Boise. Yes I am not sure the weatherman who said that about our smoke coming from Calif. knew what he was talking about, he said something about weather patterns bring the smoke in.
But we have had sprinkles the last few evenings so I hope it is raining more in the fire areas. Near the town I used to live in, they got so much rain a few days ago that it completely filled an underpass and flooded a few parking lots. Some friends posted the news reports on face book. It was amazing for this part of the country, we just don’t get that much rain.

Gail I hope you have a lot of fun and relaxation on your trip, I usually pack at least one change of cloths in my carry on because they have lost my luggage before. And of course it showed up when the vacation was almost over.

Have a good evening

Pat - that was a wonderful surprise for you. Happy belated Birthday also.

Well, been on the phone all day changing over the utilities to my name for the new house but, making sure they stay on at the old place till the 15th. Called the Insurance company to get Homeowners Insurance too. Now, I am packing up the rest of the kitchen and Master bedroom. DH went by the new house as he wanted to turn off the water to the toilets at the house. And he measured the Refrig area and the Range top. So, we are all set to go.

I hope everyone has a great day!

WOW, I went MIA for 3 days and so much happening on here. My son & family arrived Sat morning- BIG SURPRISE to me-I thought we were leaving for a Mystery Birthday trip on Sun. They have kept us busy since arriving but it has been nice to have them here. They will be leaving us tomorrow sometime. They want a beach day before heading home-they have to be back by Friday morning. It is an 18 hour drive for them so they have to start out either Wed afternoon or very early Thur and drive straight thru. Not sure what they will do yet.
To top it off, my laptop locked up and I just got it fixed today. Thank God for good friends who are a whiz on computers.
We have shown them around the area, went out for a couple of meals and took them to a big flea market today. Sunday friends took us out in their pontoon for a nice 6 hour ride and we ate lunch at a "dive" of a restaurant with great food. They got to see lots of wildlife and it was a perfect day on the water-a little overcast so not too hot and rain missed us. Of course they have enjoyed our pool too.
Sandy I am happy to hear that you have finally gotten your house. What a time you have had. Hopefully you will be happy there for a nice long time!!!
Gail so glad you will soon be going on another trip-you need a break. It is wonderful that your friend can tell that you have made a dent in things. emoticon
It is late and I am tired and have to get up early to walk-have been off schedule the past couple of days so trying to get back into the swing of it.

We went over to the New house today and meet with our contractor (our Agents Husband) who is going to do the work on the house. Found out we need a new garbage deposal as the one that we have now sounds like it is going to take off. We also need to run a gas line to the laundry room as my dryer is a gas dryer. So, just little things. The only other thing we did find is that it does look like we need a new range top - it is 11 yrs old and it is pretty old.

Gail - You sound like you are going on another cruise. I hope you have a wonderful time.

Coopperpenny - Thank you. I hope everything goes well at your Drs. appt.

Val - I hope you get use to your new schedule use. I remember when that happen with me it took a little while.

Hope that all of you are having a good start to their week.

Gail, where are you going on your vacation? You certainly have earned a nice one with all the work you've been doing.

I really need to clean this place up but all I've had he energy for so far today has been laundry. I really like my new work schedule but my body is taking it's sweet time getting used to the new hours. I didn't end up going out with my friends yesterday because I've been getting so little sleep that when I got up in the morning to try to start getting ready to go I just didn't have the energy to do it. I called one of my friends to make sure that at least one person would be going and our sick friend wouldn't show up at the coffee shop and be the only one...and then I went back to bed. This is getting really old, but I'm told that it will probably take me a month to 6 weeks to get used to the new sleep schedule. emoticon

So that's about it for me today. Laundry, a little cleaning, and getting myself ready to start another work week tomorrow. I have a couple of errands to run but I think I'll try to get up an hour early tomorrow and run them before I go to work...we'll just see how that works...

I hope that the week is starting out well for all of you.

There was much rejoicing!

Sandy, glad that you got your house. Hope all the rest is amooth sailing.

I see my heart doctor in the morning & Bill has to see his surgeon in the afternoon. He has a hernia & it's begining to bother him.I looked at the paper that comes with my new med & the side effect reads: LUNG DAMAGE - LIVER DAMAGE -WORSE HEARTBEAT PROBLEMS & THYROID PROBLEMS. It's Cordarone. One of the 3 doctors I saw in ER change 2 of my regulatr meds & one was this & the other was Xarel (blood thinner). Seems like I've had a light head aches ever since he did it. Plus he wants me off all salt & caffene. The funny (?) thing is I hardy ever use salt (now pepper is a different story) & just drink 2 cups of cooffee in the morning. And then I use Hazelnut creamer so there's not that much coffee (I think!). I just don't trust this doctor.

The weathermen are saying that this week is going to be the hottest one this summer. The humitity is really hot. After Bill takes my BP (has to take it twice a day 8am & 8 pm) we go out for a couple of hours to weed & prune. We got the back patio finished & about half the frint. Thgen we'll do all the side. It's really dry so the weeds aren;t that bad where we've been. We got 36 pts of salsa canned & some green beans & squash in the freezer, Only got 2 qrs of blackberrys before the birds got into yhem. They got all the fruit trees again this year. There must be something to do to keep them out but we haven't found it yet.

Gail, you'll soon have your house cleared of excess stuff. Doesn't that feel great? We gave some excess flooring to the neighbor. They have a small house & are excitied about doing a floor in one of their rooms. We've got some cerimic tiles in the basement that we're also going to give them when we get to them. Still working on th craft room.

Bill's making tomato sauce so have to go help.

Hope everyone has a good & safe day!

Good Morning:

This week is supposed to be a scorcher with temperature in the 90s. I've got a full week ahead: today the library truck is coming to get 25 boxes of books; tomorrow hospice is coming with a truck to take away the shelving, bookcases, and any other boxes of donations that I might have; Wednesday the hospice ladies are coming to fill up their car or van and the professor is coming to haul away to UPS the boxes of archives going to NYC. Thursday looks like a day of rest but Friday Travis will come and take things to sell on his auction site. So far I've taken boxes of books or CDs every day, 7 days a week, to the bookstore. And so the saga goes on and on. All of this takes preparation, documentation for tax purposes, time and effort. There's always physical work and emotional hurdles as I prepare things that I am donating and selling. It's not at all easy.

In a couple of weeks I'll be going on vacation and will start setting out things to pack this week. I could use two rolling suitcases and a tote or I can go and get a larger rolling suitcase. Usually, when I travel I take one large tote and a rolling suitcase that is small enough to go on as carry on. But this trip will involve different weather from 40s to 70s, dressy clothes and casual clothes and 3-4 pairs of shoes. It will be a long vacation and I've got to plan carefully. I hate to check luggage because there's always the possibility it can get lost. We'll see. I'm looking forward to a good rest and having no responsibilities. God, please let me finish the disposition of Victor's things within a year and a half!

The food has been no problem and I guess it's because I've been getting used to it. Yesterday I made a Quinoa and black bean salad that was great. I had it for lunch and dinner. My next hurdle it to monitor my portion control and choose food that is lower on the glycemic index so I can lose more weight faster. Though I'm still eating when and as much as I want, I have lost some weight and have noticed it's coming off my abdomen. This is very important from a health standpoint because abdominal fat is the very worst from a health standpoint.

Well, I'd best get on with the program. Catch you all again later.

G.

Enjoy each day.

Tammy - I am really glad that you are not near the fires. that is weird that the you are getting the smoke from the Calif. fires though. What part of Idaho due you live in, if you don't mind me asking? My mother's family is from Boise. It felt really good to give all of that to her . Just glad she could use it.

Well, we had a great time at the birthday party. It was a wonderful evening and we meet a lot of new people.

Have a great week everyone.

good afternoon everyone hope your day is going well, I had a list of things I wanted to get done today, but I only got 1 of them done, so I moved on to other things, I will get the other things done when there are customer service people there during the week. I am very slowly getting stuff put in the places it goes from the last load we brought over, I got my son and husband to take some totes upstairs for me to unpack.
I made 3 more quarts of salsa today, some of my large tomatoes are getting ripe so am going to use them for regular canned tomatoes. I am using the cherry type ones for salsa, and its working out good.
Gail you must have a huge house, with all the stuff you have already gotten rid of and it sound like you still have a lot to do.
You should be very proud of your daughter that is impressive.
Yes 50years is a very long time to have a friend. I have one that I have had for about 26 years but we seem to be drifting apart, I call her and she never returns my calls, and when she is in the area she doesn’t call me so I am moving on and if she comes around ok but if not I guess that people move on.
Thanks for the recipe, it does sound simple, I will have to try it.
Sandy good for you, dance away you deserve it. There are a lot of fires here but they are in the Stanley, Ketchum area I think, so that is a bit aways from us, but I heard on the news last night we are getting the smoke from the fire in Calif. That’s crazy I would have though we would get it from closer fires.
That is so nice that you could help that young lady out, I have been in that place, divorced with 2 kids and starting over so I can tell you I am sure she really appreciated it.
Well have a good rest of the day, I think I will get on pin interest and see whats new.

Good Morning:

Hope you all have a great Sunday. I'm planning to get to the gym, sell a load of CDs to the bookstore, and stop in to see my daughter to give her a little surprise. When my son had a 4.0 in college I surprised him with a little something. Helena finished all her coursework for the Masters with a 4.0, especially remarkable considering her circumstances. She has worked on this MA nights and weekends for 2 years while holding down a full time job that requires about 60-70 hours a week. I don't know how she does it. She is now starting to write her Master's thesis and has a 70 page start. Sounds to me like it's more than just a typical MA thesis. Her professor is very impressed with her work and is encouraging her to get it published. I'm so proud of her, so forgive me for bragging. Helena's husband of 29 years, Reed, has been supportive of her in every way: he cooks, cleans, shops, provides love, humor and sympathy, and holds down a full time job. Boy, did she luck out!

I made further progress on the living room yesterday and cleared out 12 of the bookcases and shelves. Hospice will pick them up on Tuesday morning. Also, I dumped some garbage and continued to sort the stuff all over the room. There were about 4-5 boxes of photos, awards and memorabilia that were boxed and moved to the shelving in the garage. My friend Ann and I went to lunch and then she stopped by for a visit. She was floored by the progress made in the garage and living room. We had a very good visit for a couple of hours before she left for home. We've been friends for exactly 50 years now. Boy, that doesn't happen very often, does it?

Sending hugs to all,

Gail

Nan: Hope you got some good sleep in this morning.

Sandy: WOO HOO is all I can say. Thank goodness all the problems are behind you.

Val: Have you adjusted yet to the new schedule? Be sure to let us know how the coffee goes with your friends.

Pat: One more day to go and then the big 65. That's the new 50 you know. LOL

Penny: How are you doing darling?

Enjoy each day.

Homemade Claussen Knock-Off Pickles

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Yield: 2 gallons of pickles

Always crunchy and garlicky, this perfect homemade pickle requires no special equipment, no canning experience and tastes just like Claussen's refrigerated kosher dill pickles.
Ingredients
• 35 to 40 small to medium pickling cucumbers
• 1 gallon cold water
• 1 cup cider vinegar
• 2 tablespoons mixed pickling spices (no cinnamon or sweet spices)
• 2/3 c. canning or kosher salt (Do NOT use iodized salt!)
• 4 cloves garlic or more, to taste
• 4 fresh dill heads ~or~ 4 tablespoons dried dill seed (not weed!)
•
Instructions
Wash cucumbers but do not scrub them.
Trim 1/8-inch from the blossom end of each cucumber and slice in half lengthwise or into quarters, depending on how large your cucumbers are and how big you want them to be when they're done.
In a gallon jar (or large, wide-mouth, food-safe container) layer the dill heads or seed, garlic cloves and sliced cucumbers.
In a separate pitcher or bowl, stir together the remaining ingredients until the salt is dissolved.
Pour the brine over the cucumbers, taking care to make sure all of them are fully submerged. If needed, place a plate or mug or other non-reactive heavy item on the cucumbers to weigh them down and keep them under the brine!
Cover lightly with a lid just perched on top or secure a piece of cheesecloth over the jar with a rubber band to keep fruit flies away.
Leave out of direct sunlight on the counter for two to four days*, or until the cucumbers taste like pickles throughout.
Fix your lid onto your jar or container and chill. These can be stored in the refrigerator for up to six months provided you keep them covered with brine.
*If at any point in the proceedings "fuzz" or "foam" develops on top of the brine, use a spoon to remove it. If there is "fuzz" attached to any of the cucumbers, remove the ones affected and be sure the others are still fully submerged.

NOTE: I add a little alum to the brine before I pour it over the cukes. Alum keeps the cukes crisp.

I used 1/2 the recipe and put in a pinch of alum. I didn't have dill so I used dill seed. Also, I only had a bit of pickling spices. Still, the results were great.

Enjoy each day.

Ladies, I have keys in hand and the checks. My Agent dropped it off with a bottle of bubbly emoticon that we all toasted to. Then DH informed both of us that he had called the idiot Agent and had talked to him. DH very nicely told off and then hung up. DH said he was speechless. My Agent said good don't blame you. She also informed us that her boss will be Talking to him on Monday.

Tammy - I hope you are doing OK as I know there are a lot of fires in Idaho right now. Plus the heat. It's been very muggy here in Washington the last few days. Stay safe my friend.

I think for the first time both DH and I got the best night sleep. And the best part is I sold my kitchen table on craigslist yesterday for $ 50.00. The young gal came to get it this morning at 10 am. She had just gotten divorce and was starting over with 3 kids. I had some items I was going to take to the Goodwill (old pillows, fake flowers, extra lamp shade, etc.) and I had 2 rugs that I was either going to give away or sell. DH said ask her if she need a rug for under her table. I did. She did yes, that she really doesn't have much. So, I have her everything. She said that it couldn't have work out more perfect as all of it were her color scheme. So, there you go, good Karma. It really made me feel good after all I went through I was able to make someone's day. She paid $ 50 for a table and 4 chairs but, left with 2 large area rugs, 2 pillows, lamp shade, some fake flowers and couple of other little things. Not a bad haul. I feel really happy about helping someone. That was the most important thing.

Ladies, I am going to get ready and go to my friends Birthday emoticon and put on my dancing shoes emoticon and have some fun.

Have a really great Weekend Everyone! emoticon emoticon emoticon

I would love the recipe for the pickles Gail, I gave away about 10 zucchini , 5 cucumbers and a box of tomatoes this week, I still had enough to make 3 quarts of salsa, and I did that before I looked at the plants, my husband and a friend went out Thursday and I thought they emptied all the tomatoes that were ripe off the vines to give to her, but when I went out to water them I found quite a few just on 2 plants so it looks like I will be making more salsa Monday or Tuesday.
Sandy so glad you finally got your house, that is so frustrating to deal with people like that.

Pat and Val I hope your weekend is going good for you.

does anyone have a chest freezer? I am going to buy a new freezer and I already have a upright, and I am thinking about a chest type one but they kind of look like a hassle to get stuff out of.

Sandy... emoticon emoticon emoticon I can't believe all the crap you had to wade through, but you did it and you've finally got your house. I am so, so pleased for you. emoticon

Well I've made it almost all the way through my work week. One more day to go and then on Sunday some of us are going to get together with my friend who has cancer and have coffee at Flying Star. It will have to be just coffee because all of their other stuff (food) is really expensive, but I think we'll have fun.

In the meantime, I need to get to bed. I got home really late because I went to Wal Mart after work...and then I had to put everything away. emoticon I hope that you all have a fabulous weekend...and that nobody tries to screw Sandy anymore about that darn house...

There was much rejoicing!

Well, it's been a long day. The money was wired to the Titled Company right on time, arrived at 8: 45 am. Faxed all the signed papers over at 8:30 am. E-mailed the Titled Company at 9:00 am. Texted my Agent at 10:00 am.Then the fun started. As Mike, the other Agent, was not showing up with the Addendum and the Cashiers checks. My Agents Boss finally had to call him and ask him where he was. He said he would be there in 20 mins. & print out the Addendum when he got there. An hour later he shows drops off the checks, leaves. But, no Addendum. So, Now I am mad, DH has gone through the roof & landed on the Moon with me right behind him. It is about 11:30 am by then. I wanted to pick everything up by 1pm and that was not going to happen. So, the next text that I sent was "This F*** B*** has been screwing with me since we started this and I am now tired of this the deal is off, I am calling an Attny. Mike is a J****A**** and he has messed with me for the last time!!!!" That was my last Text to my Agent. I got a text back from my Agent saying I agree with you 100% my Boss is making sure that you will have your house today & your money. Then I jumped in the shower to relax. I was just getting ready to get out when the phone started going off. Well, it finally happen everything got done. Even the Title Company is mad at the other Agent for what he pulled.

So, with all that said.... My Agents boss has gone to find Mikey, as I call him now, to give him a little piece of his mind. My Agent is bring me the keys, checks and Champagne to celebrate the New home. Chapter Closed! New Beginnings just starting...... Pictures to come soon!

Again Thank you all so very, very much for silencing me vent and all your support. All of you are the best and the Greatest Team ever.

I hope that all of you have a really wonderful weekend. I will be going to my friends 50th Birthday Party on Saturday.

Sandy I hope by now that you have closed and the house is yours, lock, stock and barrel!! Blow a kiss to the seller and on with your life. He must be one miserable human being. Glad you got the $$$ to replace the fridge. Now we look forward to seeing some pics of the new home.
Gail I like Lisa Jackson and have been reading some of her books. Have you ever read any by Debbie Macomber? They have made a TV show called Cedar Cove from one series of her books. It is running on Hallmark Channel. I was surprised, even DH has enjoyed it. Andie Macdowell is the star.
The clouds obscured the moon again this morning so guess I missed my chance the other morning to get a neat pic. I am hoping that I will be able to get in at least some walking on our mini-trip. I will be gone from Sun thru Wed. I haven't decided if I will drag the laptop or not. I am thinking I just need a total break!
I got my sweet potato vine pruned back this morning and did a bit more trimming around the house-it seems it is never ending. I filled a 5 gallon trash can with all I cut off. After that I went to the park gardens and pruned the roses in two of them and filled two more trash cans. I didn't get it all done, but made some headway. I want to have that finished tomorrow. I managed to step in an ant hill and the little buggers bit me all around the ankle before I realized it. I had on tennis shoes and socks (finally got smart and quit wearing my Crocs!)
Went to lunch with the Brittany Belles (they used to be our community Red Hats but they severed their tie to them). Vicky & I had never gone before. There were only 8 of us today but we had a nice time chatting with everyone. Today it was held at Applebees.
We have had rain off an on this afternoon so I decided to chill and read.
Hope all of you have a wonderful weekend.
Pat

Good Morning:

Travis will come this morning, this time not with his car but with his van. This way he will be able to take bigger things and more stuff. Afterward, my neighbor told me to give her a call. If she has some time she'll help me load boxes of books to bring to the bookstore or set aside for the UW. The library had to cancel on me this week as something unanticipated came up. Right now they are due to come Monday morning.

If you read my blog yesterday, Barnes and Noble would not give me cash for the gift certificate I found earlier in the week. They converted the certificate to a gift card and told me I could use it for anything in the store. I must have been there at least 1/2 hour and found nothing. I'll probably give the card to someone as a gift; I don't think I'll have use for it.

I think I'm going to try to concentrate on emptying the living room. It's looked like a disaster area for about a year and I cannot stand it any more. I've emptied a few bookcases and if hospice cannot come for the large floor-to-ceiling ones I'll call the Salvation Army. I think I'll box the music and put it in the garage or basement. Right now the shelving in the garage is filled with boxes that will be going to the institute in NYC. The basement has some pockets of space here and there but everything is so disorganized and a big mess. If I can empty more of the bookcases of books I can put the music in the living room on that shelving. Time to get on with my life. It's so hard to imagine that with all the stuff that's gone everything still seems filled to the brim. YUK!

Started a new book yesterday and am just getting into it. You guys reading any good mysteries? Which authors do you like?

Catch you all later.

G.

Enjoy each day.

Sandy, oh my God! Who the heck cares if the refrigerator was original to the house? The man still stole it from you and if it will cost you $3000 to buy a new fridge, then he should be required to give you $3000. If he didn't want to do that, he really shouldn't have stolen a refrigerator from you. He should have gone out and bought his own! I'm glad that in the end you're going to come out with that $3000 in another way. What a pain in the hind end this has all been for you, and what a hateful B word that seller must be. I actually feel kind of sorry for him. You're going to get over all of this, buy his house, get a new fridge and live happily ever after. He's just going to go on being a hateful B word and probably be miserable. Why would he want to keep a fridge that's that old anyway?? emoticon

In had something I was trying to remember to tell you guys, but after I typed that paragraph I can't find it anywhere in my head. I think that means it's time to take Gail's advice, brew a cup of chamomile tea and get myself in bed a bit earlier than usual tonight. I've got things I need to do before work tomorrow. I hope you all have a fabulous Friday.

There was much rejoicing!

OK, so been texting my Agent all day yesterday till about 10PM. She finally got her Manager involved as I think I told you. I got up this morning at 6 am and the texting started again at about 6:30 am to the tune of how much are you willing to take. I said I just want my Refrig for get the shelf $ 3000.00. So, I got one text telling me that the Seller's Agent has had it and he will only give us $ 1000.00 as the Refrig is the original to the house, THE ORIGINAL TO THE HOUSE! Why in Gods name would anyone want to take a Refrig that is as old as the house. I am glad they did as now I will buy a better one as my Agents Boss got so mad at the other Agent that I am getting $ 3000.00. So, the break down goes like this - I get $ 600 off the already discount price, a Cashiers check for $ 2400 which =$ 3000.00 for the Refrig. Plus another Cashier check for $ 500.00 for cleaning of the ducts that he refused to do. So, all in all I think I did OK. I just add a few more gray hairs.

Oh! And on top of all that lowed my sons Medical bills and got him on a payment plan. Then ran to my broker to Transfer funds to the Title company to be there in time for tomorrow morning and packed up the kitchen. emoticon emoticon

Pat - Hang in there with your eyes. Follow what the doctor says. My Mother had that and I know what you are going through.

Thank you everyone for following me through all of this and listening to me Vent. I really appreciate all of you.

Hope Everyone has a really great weekend.

Sandy so sorry you have the Seller from "you know where" and hopefully this will all be ironed out-contracts are binding so praying you will get the $$$ to replace the fridge and cabinet. It is utterly amazing that he would do this-at least to me. I bet both agents would like to like to wash their hands of him and hope to never have to deal with him again!!
We are finally getting some rain down here and it is quite welcome. Hopefully we will continue to get more.
I have been working with the finance committee for our community and we are trying to get the budget prepared for fiscal 2014. We have to have it ready to present by the Oct board meeting so hopefully we can have it done by the end of Sept. Harder to do with 3 of our members still up north-we are working by e-mail, phone and fax, There are 3 of us down here so.....wish us luck.

Penny, sweetie: I'm so sorry for all you are going through. Is there anyone who can help you at home? I will keep you in my prayers and hope that the sort out your medical problems quickly.

Sandy: What can I say? I'm so sorry that you are going through all of this trouble with the new home. I know it's no consolation, but something tells me this guy is going to have bad karma and will wind up paying for all the trouble he is causing. And what is this all about with your son's insurance. Did I miss something? This is the first I've heard of it.

Val: If you are having a hard time falling asleep you might wish to try camomile tea.

Pat: It's great that your DH is now able to help you with some things. He's come a long way.

Tammy: Sounds like you're really up to you neck with work. Did you put up pickles yet? I got about 4 lbs of organic pickling cukes and made some copycat Claussen Pickles a couple of weeks ago. Boy, are they good. Let me know if you want the recipe.

Oh Sandy, how awful. emoticon Why in the world would the man do this kind of stupid stuff? That's just hateful and he had to know that he wasn't going to get away with it without cutting the amount he was going to get for his house. I hope this all gets taken care of quickly and that you don't have any more nasty surprises.

I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out at what time I have to stop drinking caffeine if I want to be able to sleep at night with this new schedule. I had a really hard time falling asleep last night...and then I woke up an hour early. emoticon I quit the caffeine pretty early this evening so hopefully I'll get a decent night's sleep tonight.

Pat, I will be praying that your macular degeneration progresses very slowly.

I hope that everyone has a really great Thursday.

There was much rejoicing!

So, We had our walk though today. And I am glad we did. DH walked into the kitchen and promptly calls out to me " There is No Refig!" With that I looked at the Agent that was doing the walk-thru with us and said the Refig was to stay. The Agent promptly text my Agent, who is out of town right now. Plus the shelf that was over the washer & dryer is gone also. So, as soon as I got on my phone and text my Agent saying " I am Not Signing Any Papers till I get
$ 3000.00 for a New Refig as that is about what a new one will cost. Plus the cost of a cabinet for above the washer & dryer. So, now My Agents big boss is involved & taking care of it. As he is in breach of contract. So, now I sit and wait to see what is going to happen next as we are suppose to close on Friday.

So that is the news for now. I am exhausted as I have been dealing with that and my sons Insurance and doctors all day also. Must be the month for that.

Everyone take care.

I had a busy day-walked again by moonlight-it is so lovely out then. Others must have had the same idea-3 of us met on one street! I am hoping I will get to continue doing this for a couple of more mornings. I was thru with my walk before 8 today which was nice.
DH & I trimmed the shrubs on the west side of our house. He ran the electric trimmer and I put down the sheets to catch the cuttings and then picked it all up and dumped it in our trash can and I also did the hand pruning. We filled that can right up. It had been 3-4 months since we last did it and it was overdue! Vicky came while I was doing the clean up and she helped at the last. Then she & I went to work on some of the park stuff. We had bought several decorative items that we put out. Of course, we have to try things in different areas before we decide where they look the best so it takes time. I had to stop at the office to pick up some paperwork-it is budget time and I am on the finance committee so working on getting things ready to give to the board as our budget has to be finalized in early Oct so it can be voted on at the Oct meeting and then mailed to all the members of our community so they know how the $$$ is being spent. We decide what projects will be funded, etc.
After all that and setting up a meeting for tomorrow morning, I came home and mixed up a tank full of weed-b-gone to spray the lawn in front of our clubhouse and by the office. I had treated it in May and it really helped but weeds are creeping back in so wanted to do it again. I am going to keep working on that area and add more common areas in hopes of eradicating some of the weeds so the grass can grow. If I could convince more owners to keep their yards treated, it would help as the weeds would not spread as much. It was noon by the time I got all that done and time to get in out of the heat!
This afternoon I got cleaned up and relaxed some as it was our monthly birthday/anniversary dinner and we had to leave at 3:30 for that. There were only 18 of us this month but a nice time was had by all.
We have had about an inch of rain this afternoon-it was much needed but I am worried it might have washed away my hard work. Not sure if the spray washed away-guess I will know in a week or so. If so, I will have to do it all over again.
Gail I am glad you didn't just pitch all that and found the money and gift cards. As someone said, your can purchase something you want or use for gifts. Will be a little seed money for your next trip???
Val hope you can get your sleep pattern regulated so you get some rest. Rough working without a good night's sleep.
Tammy hope you don't get too exhausted with all that you are doing.
Penny praying that you can find out what is going on and get to the bottom of your health issues. That really sounds frustrating.
Someone asked about the AMD-it is not curable but hopefully will develop slowly. I am to have more tests and I guess that will tell us more. Dr will follow me closely going forward-see me every 6 months. For now it is eat healthy, keep exercising, take the eye vitamins and wear sunglasses anytime I am outside to help protect my eyes. Thanks for the prayers-can't hurt to ask that this progresses slowly.
Hope you all have had a great day.
Pat

Had to go to the doctor on the 9th & he admitted me to the hospital. I couldn't catch my breathe. They kept me in the ER for 6 1/2 hours before putting me in a room. The IV was inserted in the bend of my right arm & a BP cuff was put on the left arm. So I had to lay on my back with my arms straight out beside me. This was fine until they brought in my supper tray. Eating meant bending my arms which made the alarms go off. I asked a nurse about getting up to use the bathroom & she said i could have a beside comode but would have to ring the bell for assistance. I told her that wouldn't work as the bell wasn't always answered right away. So she told me I could refuse being assisted. So I did. When they head nurse came in for me to sugh i asked why they didn't tell me I could do this before & he said the hospital didn't want me to know. They have a guide they use to see if you need assistance. if you're over 65, wear glasses, etc. Saw 3 different doctors. The middle one wanted me to have a series of tests & stay till Monday. The third one cancelled all the tests as I've had all of them in the last year & he released me Saturday afternoon. I go see my reg heart dr. on the 27. They still don't know what's going on. They put me on a low salt diet ( I don't use much salt to beging with) & told me to cut back on coffee. I only dringk 2 cups a morning & don't drink soda . Bit my eyes are givomg ,me fits. Everythings fuzzy & I got new glassed in June. I'm really beginning to get depressed with all this. Anyone have any idea of what's going on? I'm beginning to not trust the doctors!

Hello ladies, I have a extra min. so I thought I would check in, it sounds like all of you have a few obstacles in your life right now, I hope they get better for all of you.
I have been so busy, I started work and my garden is ready to harvest so I have been making a lot of salsa this last week, and we volunteered to pick corn for a charity org on Sat. and then of course just life in general, it does keep me busy.
You all have a great day.

Pat, keeping you in my prayers. I hope that your doctors are able to help you to cure the macular degeneration, or at least to slow its progression. I really don't know much about that part of the medical field but I do hope that there is something that can be done to help you.

Gail, I know it's not much compared to what Vic spent, but at least you made a little bit of money from his hoarding today. And the gift cards should allow you to get some nice gifts for yourself or for someone else. (They would make very nice Christmas, Hanukkah or birthday presents.)

I think that I have not yet adjusted to my new work schedule as well as I had thought. Over my weekend I stayed up all night both nights, which is not something that I wanted to do at all. Then last night I went to bed early, woke up in the middle of the night and then had all kinds of trouble getting back to sleep. I had a kind of stupid day at work, which wasn't good because it was also very busy, but at least it's over. I'm going to go to bed kind of soon and hopefully tomorrow will be better. I have to leave a little early tomorrow because I have to go talk to the people at the apartment office before I go to work. The entrance and exit gates were finally fixed today...and my gate card wouldn't work! I had to wait for someone to come up behind me and use their card to open the gate so that I could get in, too. That's not something I want to have to keep doing every night, thus the trip to the apartment office before work tomorrow. emoticon

And with that, I'm off to see if I can get a little more sleep tonight than I did last night. I hope that you all have a wonderful Wednesday.

There was much rejoicing!

Pat: I'm so sorry to learn that you have vision problems. Hope you sort things out so that it doesn't progress. I'll keep you in my prayers.

Sandy: Good Lord! It seems this run around will never be over. I applaud your tenacity and patience.

I've had quite a day. This morning I brought a load of books to the bookstore, and when I got home I started to pack more boxes with books to bring to the bookstore tomorrow. As i was hunting around the living room for smalll boxes, i found one that had greeting cards and such. Luckily, before i tossed the whole thing, i went through the cards. To give you an idea of how much of a problem Vic had, he found it so imperative to keep everything that he often didn't spend the cash he was given as a gift. I found $480 in cash, a $100 Amazon gift card, and a $30 gift card for Barnes & Noble! This is exactly why i cannot just dump things. My father in law also kept everything and hid things. What an ordeal!

Well. I had to get that off my chest.

This afternoon the professor came and he went through lots of boxes. We have 16 at the moment that will go to the university. I have five boxes in my SUV to bring to the bookstore tomorrow, and several for Travis to look through when he comes on Friday morning. Tomorrow is garbage day, and there are 6 black garbage bags filled with papers in addition recycle bin and my garbage bin. So much stuff!

I had to go for a second shower today because I felt so sweaty and dirty after dealing with all that stuff. It's never ending.

Sweet dreams for all,

Gail
G.

Enjoy each day.

Sandy what is it with some people???? We had to replace our furnace when we sold our house back in STL-inspector found a pinhole when testing it-could not get a replacement part and it was only 9 years old so....we had to replace it to get it approved to sell. The inspectors there won't sign off if you don't do the repairs and it doesn't matter who-house can't be sold if the repairs aren't made! We had to replace a window with a tiny crack, some really minor issues but it all had to be done!
Gail my birthday is the 26th. Not sure where I will be on that date-DH is still not divulging a thing.
Today was my eye dr appointment. Wasn't good news there. I have macular degeration and dr said I need to be taking eye vitamins so I picked them up on my way home. Hoping we can keep this at bay for now by eating right, taking vitamins and exercise. I have to go for another eye test but they only do it on Tues so it will be mid Sept when I can get in since we will be gone for the next 3 Tuesdays.
I am trying to keep a positive attitude for now and praying this develops slowly. Being an avid reader this could later become a problem for me but for now, I am not going to get too upset. I know what my DH has gone thru and he has shown me what is possible with limited vision so I will follow his lead.
Hugs to all of you.
Pat

I only have a minute but, here is the scoop. The idiot seller refused to clean the ducts after he said he would. So, my Agent has gotten me another $ 500 for me. We are going over for a walk though to be sure that he did the other things he said he was going to do. We want to be sure before we sign the papers on Friday.

Everyone take care and I'll take you informed. Have a great week. Love you all!!

Good Evening:

Well, the latest auction closed at 7pm this evening and I think I made out OK; not great, but OK. Tomorrow the professor is coming and it's back to the basement. I hope he doesn't mess things up too much. Travis will be back on Friday and it's a toss up as to whether they'll have enough volunteers at the thrift shop to send some ladies over on Wednesday afternoon.

I finished the latest Faye Kellerman book, The Beast. It was very good. I read it before finishing the Moseley books because it was a two week book.

Sweet dreams all,

Gail

Val: Music has been a HUGE part of my life too. I lost my voice several years ago. You know how it is...if you don't use it you lose it. Music was something that Vic and I shared and loved.

Pat: What day is your birthday?

Music has always been a huge part of my life. I started playing the violin when I was 6 years old and kept it up until my MS got bad enough to be diagnosed when I was 31. I've tried to play a few times since then and I get discouraged because I'm used to being very good but now I sound just awful. I'm going to give it another try, though, because I really miss it a lot. None of that explains why certain songs have such an effect on me, but they do.

I've been having terrible allergies recently. I really hate to take pills but in the evening (mostly) the roof of my mouth has been itching so badly that I've had to take several kinds of pills to get it to stop itching so that I can go to sleep. Of course, having taken 3 or 4 kinds of allergy pills in rapid succession, I have no idea which one it was that finally helped. But I'll be darned if I'm going to spend extra hours in misery just to be sure which pill is actually helping me. emoticon I don't know what's blooming or pollenating or whatever right now, but I hope it's over soon.

Well I don't really have anything much to report today so I think I'll just sign off and see if I can get something done around this place. I hope the week is starting out really well for all of you.

There was much rejoicing!

Val-why is it that music has so much control over our emotions. I can't hear Lee Ann Womacks "I hope you dance" without thinking of my sister-in-laws sister's funeral. They played that while they had a slide show of her life. She was barely 50 when she lost her battle with breast cancer.
My dear sweet DH is making today so much easier to handle. He finally admitted he has something planned and we will be gone from Sun to Wed! He won't tell me where we are going but he even made arrangements for a "sitter" for Abbie! Poor girl is going to think we are deserting her-we will get back on Wed and leave again on Tues for another week! He is such a dear heart and wants to make the day special for me. I am just relieved it isn't a surprise party-he has thrown those too!!!
I walked this morning and did a little work outside before the heat got too bad. I weeded a little in the park, then did the side flower bed of a neighbor-she helps me weed in the winter-who is gone for the summer. DH helped me clean house-he ran the vacuum and I dusted and ran the steamer on the tile floors. I have also done a load of laundry so it has been a productive day. Now that I know I will be gone, I am going to have to step up things I have to do before we head north!!!
Hope you all have had a great Monday.
Pat

Sandy, I had a miscarriage the one time I was pregnant and that song would have been pretty useful at that time, too, though I don't think it had been recorded yet. It's a good song for a lot of situations because so much of life can only be solved or soothed with a good cry.

It's hard to believe that you're finally going to get to move soon. I'm so pleased that this has all worked out so well. Have fun moving. emoticon

I found a friend from high school orchestra and the Albuquerque Youth Symphony on Facebook today. Only 31 years lost, but she's living 60 miles north of me now so maybe we'll be able to connect again sometime soon.

Pat, the Garth Brooks song that just about killed me after my first DH died was The Dance. He died on May 20th of 2000, and then 9/11 happened while I was on a medical leave from work trying to deal with the depression his death left me in. I had been sleeping with the television on because I couldn't handle the silence in my apartment and I woke up to some of the first reports of the attacks. Then I saw a video thing someone had done online that used that song and it is still one of the songs in my collection of music that makes me cry. (Yours is in that collection, too.)

I guess we all have our trigger songs. Mine is "If Tomorrow Never Comes" by Garth Brooks. It came out right after DH #1 passed away and it was like it was written as a message from him to me. I guess like all of you I am a bit melancholy, tomorrow would have been our 45th wedding anniversary. I have actually been married to DH #2 longer than we were married but it is still tough on days like this and I can't really explain it to Bill.
I know he is planning something big for my birthday but he hasn't told me what-I just hope it isn't a surprise party. Usually birthdays don't bother me but turning 65 is such a milestone-I just want to get past the day.
I took today off-no walking. I did things inside, some before church and some afterwards. Tomorrow will be back in the groove.
Sandy I bet you are getting really excited-soon the keys will be in your hand and you can get busy getting the house ready to move in! emoticon
Val I am so glad you shared your song and story-makes us all draw closer to each other-sharing our grief and how we deal with it.
Thanks for worrying about me-I do drink my water-I am careful to not let myself get dehydrated.

Val - That is truly a wonderful of you. You are right too. As after loosing my first at the age of 10 yrs. I pretty much shut down. It took me a long time to let someone in my life. It was my Mother who said something to me that woke me up. And that was " I don't think your son would like seeing you like this" I have always remembered that. Val, Thank you for your story and your song. A good cry once in awhile is a good thing.

Gail - You sure have a lot of special people.

Well, tomorrow is moving day for the Sellers. So, we are on our way. We sign the final papers on the 23rd and pick up the keys.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Sunday.

Gail, this song is by Julie Miller and I bought the CD a few months after my first husband's death. I think it's called "Broken Things."

You can have my heart, but it isn't new
It's been used and broken, only comes in blue
It's been down a long road and it got dirty on the way
If I give it to you will you make it clean and wash the shame away
You can have my heart if you don't mind broken things
You can have my life if you don't mind these tears
Well I heard that you make old things new
So I give these pieces all to you
If you want it you can have my heart.

That's the first song that my iPod brought up at work today, and I just sat at my microscope hoping that nobody would see the tears streaming down my face. That doesn't generally happen when I hear that song, though it actually was the reason why I bought the CD at that time in my life. I have quite a bit of music that I bought simply because it can help me to have a good cry when I need one. It's been more than 13 years, but apparently I still need them from time to time.

I'm not sure why the song made me cry today, maybe because we've been talking a lot about your loss and I've really come to care about you very much. So maybe I was thinking about you, or maybe I was thinking about my own loss. Who knows? What I really want to say to you right now is that I understand not wanting to find a new companion, I've felt that way myself and actually kind of do right now. But please don't close your heart completely. Leave a tiny space for a new friend to fit into if one comes along. A new friend doesn't have to be a romantic interest. It could just be someone that you go to dinner or coffee with, or maybe someone that you go to a concert or a movie with. It doesn't even have to be a man. Please just leave a tiny spot in your heart that's open to having a new friend if one suddenly shows up. You've been going through so much, and a new friend might just be what you need to keep yourself from falling into a depression caused by everything you have to deal with right now.

And to the rest of you, I hope you had a really great Saturday. I'm liking my new work schedule, though I do wish that I didn't have to work on Saturdays. Oh well, at least I've still got a job that pays my bills. Sandy, how soon do you get to move into your new house? Pat, please try really hard not to get heat stroke when you're out walking. Everyone else, have a fantastic Sunday.

There was much rejoicing!

Pat -Gail is right. Please take it easy and be sure you are drinking your water.

It has been very humid here the past few days. Which very unusually for the Northwest. Luckily, it hasn't been that hot which is good. We have been able to get a few boxes packed the last few days but, it has been so muggy that it tires you out after about an hour.

Taking it easy today and cleaned the roomed we packed up. Will be watching Football later as the Seattle Seahawks are playing.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend.

Good Afternoon-another hot one down here and it is getting to me. I have no energy-I do force myself to get up and walk but when that is finished I really have no ambition to do anything else and that is not normal. I usually have a list with a dozen things I need to do and I can't even make a list the past few days!
We went to breakfast with Vicky & Sonny this morning after I walked and then went to Walgreens to pick up more water while it was on sale and some eggs. Afterwards we stopped at a few yard sales and I found a pr of exercise capris and 2 tops to wear when I walk. One of the tops still had the tags on it and I got all 3 for $6 so thought I got quite a bargain.
All I have accomplished since I got home was to read the newspaper and watch a movie I had recorded. I did put in a load of laundry so guess I need to get that folded when I get off of here!!
Hope all of you have a Super Sunday.
Pat

Good Very Early Morning Once Again:

I went to bed at around 7:30pm, got up at 2:30am and haven't been able to get back to sleep. So, here I am. Yesterday I did go shopping for clothing and found some things that were actually flattering. I wasn't exhausted afterward and I think that might have been because I didn't feel defeated and depressed with nothing to show for time spent as I have in the past. I got a bathing suit that was on clearance from Shopko, a competitor of Target. It is actually flattering and I didn't feel like an elephant in it. After I stopped at the thrift store, Savers. I hadn't been there in a very long time and noticed that the prices had gone up a lot. I found some things that fit very well and were not too expensive for the quality. A long black formal skirt with red roses (for the trip next month), a Talbots lined wool jacket, and a new tee shirt. All of those items and the bathing suit came to less than $60. Considering the fact that the bathing suit alone was originally $88, I think I did well.

This evening I'm taking a friend out for her birthday and have also invited her sister who is also a good friend. The birthday girl is my friend, Ann, who so generously took Vic to all his medical appointments for months when I was overwhelmed by pain from arthritis and stress. The three of us laugh a lot so it should be a really good time.

Before I sign off I just want to thank you all again for your constant support, especially over the past few days. You all helped me more than you will ever know and I love you for it.

Wishing you all a bright, happy day,

Gail

Val: Many years ago, when I was young, I thought that if my husband every died I'd go on with the hope of finding someone to share my life. But I haven't felt that way at all since Vic died. I'm not afraid to be alone and I'm not in the least lonely. Also, to be very frank, I don't think I could ever be intimate with another man again. It's not a matter of closing my heart, it is a matter of never being able to go through that again. A great weight was lifted from my shoulders when Vic died. During his illness my life and health were on hold, and, sad to say, his death was the release of a great burden.

Gail, I'm so glad that the day went okay for you. Anniversaries can be really hard so I'm glad that you had family with you so that you could all support each other. I don't really have either of our families close by and so every year as I approach the anniversary of my husband's death I feel really sad, then with the exception of the first anniversary I just zone out and totally miss the actual date. And then after I realize I've missed it...again...I feel really sad about having missed it. (After 13 years you'd think I could remember May 20th with some regularity...)

But I guess that the actual day isn't as important as remembering him virtually every day and thinking about how much we loved each other. Shortly before Randy died he told me that he wanted me to go on with my life after he died and find love again. I suspect that Victor had similar feelings for you, whether he ever said it or not. I'm not trying to tell you to run out and try to meet a new man, or to go on singles sites on the web like where I met my ex. I'm just trying to ask you not to totally close off your heart. One day you may very well meet a wonderful man who can at least be a companion for you. If you never meet a companion or another husband, that's okay. But please don't close your heart to that possibility. (Personally I'm not actively looking after the fiasco that was my second marriage...but maybe one day a great guy will find me and just happen to be exactly what I need in my life...but I'm not gonna hold my breath. emoticon )

So night before last I only got 2 or 3 hours of sleep. emoticon Last night I took a sleeping pill (I hate those things) and for the first half of today I had a really bad sleeping pill hangover. I don't think I'll have trouble sleeping tonight because I'm exhausted but even if I do have trouble...there will be NO sleeping pills tonight!! I just hate feeling that way.

A couple of friends and I are planning on taking our sick friend out for coffee or lunch on Sunday the 25th. Then a couple of weeks later we'll probably go on a Wednesday so that another one of our coworkers can go on her day off. I'd like to give as many people a chance to go out with us so that Christy doesn't get just totally bored with seeing only me. emoticon It's good for both of us, gets us out of the house and away from our computers. emoticon

Anyway, time for a really fast glance at my email and then I need to hit the hay earlier than usual tonight. I just hate feeling the way I felt today. emoticon I have to work tomorrow but I hope the rest of you have a fabulous start to an incredible weekend.

Gail I do believe it is true that we are what we eat and you are finding that out. So many of our health issues could be made a lot better if we are are willing to do what is necessary.
Your kale sounded delicious. So glad that you felt all the love coming your way yesterday. So wonderful to have your family there to support you.
I haven't had any energy the past couple of days - I think the heat is just wearing me down. After I walked today, I ate breakfast, read the newspaper and then slept from 10:30 till 1! I hope the current heat wave breaks soon.
Sandy it sounds as though you have things well in hand and will be ready to move without a problem.
Have a great weekend.

Good Very Early Morning:

Well, I got through yesterday pretty well taking very good care of myself. I know my kids were worried about me. Helena her DH, Reed, and I went to the cemetery late in the afternoon. As is custom, we left a small rock on top of the headstone. That symbolizes that we visited and that the memory of the departed is not forgotten. Markus called me in the evening to make sure I was all right. Truly, I feel so blessed that my children care so much about me. So many people that I know are estranged from their family for one reason or another. It's truly a blessing and a gift to be loved. I want you all to know how much your caring and support has meant to me. I could not have weathered this storm so well without you all by my side.

Travis wanted to come yesterday but it was out of the question. Today I have no plans so I thought I'd go shop the clearances to see what I could pick up. I need a new bathing suit and could probably use some fall/winter things.

This gluten free diet I've been following has almost completely wiped out my allergies and the arthritis pain has lessened considerably. But, the big surprise is that I've dropped about 5 pounds. I've been easing off dairy and will try to eliminate it once I use up a bit of cheese I have in the fridge. I've heard that people who have a problem with dairy can sometimes find that they are not intolerant of goat products. As it happens, I've a small piece of mozzarella and a small packet of goat cheese. Eliminating the gluten has pointed me in other directions, especially eating more fruits and vegetables. Many of these are anti-inflammatory and I'm certain this must have a direct effect on easing the pain from the arthritis. Yesterday I fixed some kale and it was delicious. I simply sauteed some fresh garlic in olive oil and then added the washed kale leaves minus the stems, and a bit of kosher salt. The water remaining on the leaves steamed them and the end result was soooo good. I've also learned that some foods act as appetite stimulants, and with the elimination of gluten and processed food my consumptions has tapered.

Hugs for you all,

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Gail, anniversaries are always hard even after a lot of years. I hope that today wasn't too difficult for you to bear and that spending time with family made things easier for you to handle today. When we get to discussing your efforts to get rid of all his stuff it's easy to start to lose sight of the fact that Vic was the man you loved for the majority of your life. So be gentle with your heart and make sure to take the time to grieve when you need to. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Gail - I am so glad that your family will be with you today. I can't believe it has been that long. I will say a prayer and light a candle tonight.

Pat - I hope that you are drinking your water too. You be carful in the heat.

Nan - I sometimes do feel like a bed and breakfast. You and to come and join in? You are more than welcome. But, we are closed for remodeling right now but, will re-open Sept. 15th. emoticon

I got in about 45mins of walking today. We are very muggy today. It has been raining off and on all day.We have been packing up everything starting with the guest room. The other room has a blow up bed and that is all done. Then there is the office which is part done. So, I am doing really good. I really just have the kitchen.

I hope that everyone has had a great week.

Sandy sounds like you are finally on the downhill slide-glad you had an enjoyable visit with your company-all that and getting the house- emoticon

Gail so happy you will have family with you this evening and have your tradition to bring you comfort. How nice to go for a nice relaxing massage.

Today has been a little more laid back for me-didn't want to get up so it was about 6:30 when I got out to walk. It is another hot one down here so I was certainly glad when I got in my 10,000 steps. After breakfast I went back up front and finished up the last rose bed and cut some cannas out of another bed. An hour out there in the heat is about all I can stand.

DH still hasn't gotten his new glasses-called this afternoon and they think they should be in by tomorrow afternoon. He is really anxious to get them so hope that is right.

Hope all of you have a terrific Thursday.

Today is the first anniversary of Victor's death. I am using the rest of my gift certificate to go for a massage this morning and will rest for the remainder of the day. As is our custom, I will light a candle in Vic's memory today and will go the the grave site with my family after they return from work. Only my son won't be here. He called me last night and has his candle all set to light it today. Our daughter and granddaughter will also light a candle. I think it's kind of a nice tradition.

Guest is gone. It was wonderful to have my BIL he is to have around and a lot of fun. But, I am sure tried now that he is gone. I think too that now that the whole house thing is starting to come to a close too I have become more relax. I am sure sleeping better lately. I am not starting the paper signing end of it now. it should all come to an end as of August 23rd. My cousin arrives the first week in Sept. My SIL was going to come for a visit but she is off to Portugal and then to Hawaii. She will be here for ski season. By then the house will be in order and we will be settled in.

I am really tired so I will say good-night for now. Hope everyone is having a great week.

Walked early but it was still really warm! Had to take the car in for a recall-they replaced a brake booster. I managed to work for about an hour in the park gardens and got 2 of my rose beds deadheaded and weeded but that was as long as I dared stay out in the heat.
Went out to dinner this evening-there were 16 of us who went to a fish house this evening. Great time out with everyone.
Hope all of you had a great day.

Thanks for the reminders Val. I have had 2 colonoscopies but the last one was about 6 yrs ago. I am past due as I have had polyps removed both times but have been waiting till Medicare kicked in as I had to pay for the last one and it is expensive.
It is so wonderful that you are going to help break the monotony for your friend. I am sure no matter what she will enjoy getting out and visiting.
I have been busy a good part of the day-walked early, ran errands, did some work in the gardens in the park and finally spent almost 2 hours at the pool this afternoon. The heat is draining and I am not getting done everything I would like to but for now I have to be patient and wait for cooler weather.
Hope all of you had an awesome day.

emoticon Gail, I can certainly understand that stuff making you sick. It came close to doing that to me, too, but I guess I've just got an abnormally strong stomach. emoticon The main recommendation made to me was to eat a high fiber diet. Yeah, right. I already have enough trouble with diarrhea and any time I try to eat fiber it just makes things worse. And because of my MS, I no longer have the muscle control to hold it for very long when I've really got to go. But I'd better try to do something before my diverticulOSIS becomes diverticulITIS, which would be much more troublesome. I'm really not big on this getting older thing...

I took today off just in case the horrible diarrhea continued into today, but it has not. In fact, my mother's prediction is coming true and I've been constipated today. If only I could achieve a happy medium in my life...

Anyway, enough complaining about all of my problems. I hope that the week is going well for all of you so far. Sandy, has your seller agreed to do the necessary repairs yet? When will you be closing on the house? I'm so pleased that you held out and found the right one, and that the guy agreed to accept your offer. I know that you still have to do the moving part, which is no piece of cake, but a huge weight must be lifting from your shoulders right about now.

When I went to lunch with my friend (we finally did it on Saturday) we talked about doing it every other week. (During the weeks when she's not getting chemo.) I talked to my concert friend and the friend who takes me to things like colonoscopies about finding a time when we could all go. Caroline (the friend who drove me yesterday) suggested doing the next one on a Sunday or Monday, when she and Stephanie could both go, and this time having coffee at a place she really likes that's very near my apartment and right across the street from where our friend had her wedding reception. I think that would be fun. I want to keep on taking Christy out every other week, but I can see where she might get really bored of only seeing me. emoticon I'll talk to Stephanie (the concert friend) at work tomorrow and hopefully we can work something out.

And with that, I've just realized that even though it's only about 6:45 I'm really tired. So I'm going to look at a few last emails and then go to bed early. I hope you all have a happy Hump Day.

Good Evening

Well, it was another busy day. The student arrived right on time this morning at 8:30am and he packed and labeled the boxes of materials that will be going to the institute in NYC. While he did that I did laundry and fixed a white bean salad. I also packed up three large grocery bags with CDs and took them to the book store. Then I went to the gym and got on the elliptical for 20 minutes. I was really surprise that I was able to stay on that machine so long since I strained my lower back yesterday unloading boxes of books from my SUV and stacking them neatly for the library to pick up.

When I returned home this afternoon I fixed some chile. I find it sometimes difficult to get myself together to put something on for a meal. The best thing is for me to make something and heat it and eat it when I get hungry and tired. Do you ever feel that way?

Going to put up my feet and watch some TV now.

Wishing you all a good evening,

Gail

Val: I simply cannot drink that stuff; I gag and vomit. They give me some pill and something to drink like a 7 up. That's all I can manage. I'm so glad that's behind you. Take care, dear friend.

Enjoy each day.

Pat, if you have never had a colonoscopy before I just want to warn you about one thing. You'll have to drink a gallon of what is basically salt water for the prep. (The flavor packet will help, but not much.) You'll have to drink one 8 ounce glass of it every 10 to 15 minutes, which will take you about 4 hours if you don't have any problems or have to take any breaks. It didn't sit well for me the first two times I drank it but then it was okay for a couple of hours. But then at 10:05 last night it almost made me sick. I had forgotten to get any carbonated beverages so I had to take a 30 or 40 minute break from drinking the stuff. I couldn't go out to get anything because at that point I was pooping every 2 to 5 minutes. emoticon I almost called my concert friend to ask her to bring me a soda, but it was just after 10:00 and I didn't want to wake her up if she was already in bed.

So anyway, make sure that you have some soda in the house ahead of time. Also, get some baby wipes ahead of time. I accidentally got generic Preparation H wipes and they are NOT the same thing. Witch hazel on a butt irritated by pooping many, many times did not go over well AT ALL. emoticon It wasn't a pleasant experience, but if you get the soda and baby wipes ahead of time the prep (which was the worst of if) should go a lot better.

There was much rejoicing!

Sandy-great news that you are going to be able to start sooner-what a relief it will be to get moved in-the next several weeks will go in a real hurry! Better yet that you are getting a great deal on the work.

Val-glad you have made it through the dreaded colonoscopy. I have that to look forward to-ugh. See the dr in Sept and then will get it scheduled.

Tammy hope things settle down for you.

I didn't walk this morning-left to go to a flea market at 7:30 so I would have had to get up by 5 or 5:30 to walk-decided it was time to give the body a break. It is so hot out there-hoping we cool down soon. We hit 93 this afternoon but heat index was 103. It was still stifling at 7:30 when we watered. I watered yesterday evening and put on the sprinklers and all my potted plants were totally dry and wilting this evening!

Val - Good news on the Colonoscopy. With the billing did you keep the receipts (or did you pay with checks or credit). If you did you can go to the bank and just have the check copy of the records for the amount that you wrote. Or if you still have the check reg. you can just get the copy of the checks you wrote to the chiropractor and then show them that you already paid them.

Nan - emoticon Just one step at a time.

Well, I just got really good news. The Sellers will be out on the 19th of this month and the house will be cleaned on the 20th. So, we can start working on the house sooner. emoticon

I'm just so glad that we can get going on this so quickly.

Hope that everyone is having a wonderful week.

Well the colonoscopy has been done and I guess it was okay. The prep for it was just awful, as I expected. The stuff I had to drink almost made me sick after about 3 hours but after I took a 30 minute break from drinking that awful stuff I was more or less okay for the rest of it. I was mostly unconscious for the procedure itself, though I did wake up from the twilight sleep for a little while and at that time it was pretty uncomfortable. Oh well.

They removed one polyp and took some biopsies. The report they gave me after the procedure says that I have diverticulosis and some internal hemorrhoids. I'm supposed to eat a high fiber diet, which will be a problem for me because fiber always gives me diarrhea. But I guess I'll give it a try and see how things go. In the meantime I'm going to get off the computer because I only got about one hour of sleep last night and I'm exhausted. I just wanted to give you guys the report on the procedure before I go to sleep for the rest of the day.

Pat, I don't have Medicare but I've got an interesting billing issue myself. I got a bill from Care More Chiropractic a couple of months ago that I'm not sure what to do about. My insurance changed in January of last year and for a while we weren't sure what my copay was supposed to be. I told the lady at the office that if they found that I hadn't paid enough I'd be happy to pay the difference, but nothing ever happened...until a couple of months ago. The bill I got is a 4 page list of every appointment I've ever had with my chiropractor and includes 4 lines where they say I need to pay them more. 2 of them are from this year, I can live with that. One is from 2 1/2 years before the date the bill was sent...and one is from my very first appointment 3 1/2 years before the sent this bill!

First off, I have always paid my copays every time I went to see my chiropractor so I don't see why they're trying to charge me more for the visits 2 1/2 and 3 1/2 years ago. At those times we were aware of what my copay should be and I always paid it. And I don't think they have a legal right to bill me so long after the fact. I still need to check into that but I'm just not sure who I can call that will know for sure. I think in the end I'm going to call the corporate office and tell them that I'll pay them for the 2 charges that are from this year but that I'm not paying the really old ones. A part of what's ticking me off about this is that the 4 page bill has a snippy little sticker on the first page that says "Your insurance has paid their part, now it's time for you to pay yours." Well I'd say that it's also time for someone to do their damn job and bill me in a more TIMELY manner. So I'm going to call and talk to the witch that sent me this bill, and then I'm going to find another chiropractor who is on my insurance plan and will charge me a lower copay, along with billing me in less than a year. emoticon

Okay, now that that's all out...I've been drinking 16 ounces of liquids every hour since I got up this morning and in 20 minutes I have to start drinking 8 ounces of the stuff that will give me godawful diarrhea so that I'll be cleared out by the time I have my colonoscopy tomorrow morning. I think after I start drinking it I'm just going to take the comfortable chair from the computer desk down the hall and sit in it outside the bathroom until all of this is over. I can't always hold it when I have to go, so I want to be able to sit close to the bathroom while this is going on. I'll read books from my Kindle and have a lovely time. emoticon And then tomorrow I can finally eat again. (When I'm drinking apple juice I'm okay, but when I switch to ice tea for an hour I start to get hungry.) My colonoscopy is scheduled for 8:00 tomorrow morning and after that I'll be able to sleep again. I'll let you know what I find out from this in a few days...

There was much rejoicing!

Thank you everyone. I am just so happy it is over. I slept until 10 am today. DH just let me sleep. I am usually up at 7 am. It really felt good.

Val - It is so good of you that you make time for your friend and spend time with her.

Tammy - It is good that you keep busy makes the day go faster.

Gail - You are really doing a great job clearing thing out.

Pat - I use to be a biller so, I know what you are going to go through. But, it is good that you keep records and keep on top of it.

Well, all I am just going to pack and relax now. We take procession of the house on Aug. 23rd but, we are not going to move in until Sept. 15th. We have already given notice to our landlord. They have been really good and understanding. So, we will next the 1st - 15th free and the rest we will get back + deposit. So, that will help us. Our Agent as a gift is going to have all the work done for us by her husband, that is a contactor. That is saving me money. So, I just have to pay for the new tank-less water heater. Which is a big ticket item. I am just very happy that everything worked out so good.

Hope everyone has a wonderful week.

Tammy I am with your-I feel guilty if I am not busy! That is terrible-we should be able to sit back and relax and enjoy it!!
Val I hope that all this torture will finally give you some answers. Doesn't sound like a fun weekend at all.
I walked as usual at 6 and then when done got breakfast and did our pills up for the week before getting a shower and we were off to church by 10. After service, we went out for lunch with Vicky & Sonny and another couple from our community who attend this church. We are still trying to find a church we feel like we "fit" in.
I have relaxed somewhat this afternoon. I tried to go online and research the billing issue on medicare.gov, but it doesn't go back to 2010. I can' believe it is Aug 2013 and they are just now billing us for something from way back then! I am going to have to call them I guess. Oh joy. I spent almost 2 hours trying to get some answers.
Hope all of you have had a good Sunday.
Pat

Val its good you are helping your friend to get out on occasion, your weekend does not sound fun at all. I hope they get to the source of your problem.

Pat at least you remember to send cards, I forget half the time. Good job on catching that mistake, it seems like you almost have to have an accounting degree to understand them sometimes, I got a bill from the Dr. the other day and I opened another envelop and there was another bill for the exact same thing, same account number and everything.

Sandy what great news on the house.

Gail you do deserve breaks, I know what you mean about the cell phones, I only know the basics about my phone and it seems like just as I get to learn how to use them, they break.
I am doing a lot of relaxing today and it is strange, I am not sure how to do this very well, I feel like I should be doing something but I don’t want to!

Sandy... emoticon emoticon emoticon I'm so happy for you! emoticon I'm so glad that I'm not the one who's moving, but I'm very happy for you.

Today I finally managed to go to lunch with my friend. She has chemotherapy every other Tuesday (I think) and we're going to try to do lunch or coffee every other week to get her out of the house at least once during her non chemo weeks. We're going to try to plan some of this so that other friends from work can go with us. She seems to be doing really well, though she has been dealing with a bit of depression because...she's bored to tears most of the time. She wants to go back to work but her doctor has not released her to do that and the company doesn't want to allow her to come back from a long term disability leave until she can show that she has been cured, which is never going to happen with her particular cancer. She was going to volunteer to go in and grade papers for her friend's elementary school class, but her doctor told her that she needs to stay away from hospitals (which will make coming back to work tough) and kids. emoticon Anyway, we had a really nice lunch and we will definitely be doing it again soon.

So what I want to do tomorrow is dye my hair because I'm getting dark roots. What I'm actually going to do is spend the day drinking a liquid diet (16 ounces of fluid every 30 minutes) and then after peeing all day long I'm going to give myself the worst darn diarrhea I've ever had in my life (which is saying something...) I'll try to watch a NASCAR race in one of my favorite places in the world (Watkins Glen, which is in upstate New York) while I'm doing all of this drinking and peeing, and I think I'm not likely to get much (if any) sleep tomorrow night. A friend of mine will pick me up at 7:00 on Monday morning to take me to my torture session, and hopefully we'll get some useful information from this procedure. If nothing else, after Monday morning I can eat yogurt and tomatoes and pickles and things that are red, blue, green and purple again. emoticon

So that's quite a weekend I've got planned, eh? I hope the rest of you are enjoying yours one heck of a lot more than I'm going to enjoy mine.

There was much rejoicing!

Happy Dance for you Sandy. So glad everything is all signed off on-how soon will it be for the closing?? Did your company arrive? I guess you will be busy now getting it ready to move into. Do you plan to stay where you are and fix everything first before moving?
Gail I hope you are starting to see some empty areas here and there. When are you going on your next trip? You are so right after all this purging, you do need to take a beak from time to time.
I only got about 5 hours of sleep but I managed to get up and walk before 6 this morning and have been going all day long. I got the mulching done and finished trimming the flowers on the west-I still have to do the shrubs but that will be a job for next week. DH helped me do a couple of things outside. We put my new bear up on the hillside and moved my flamingo to another flower area. We hauled off the really old flamingo-it was falling apart and making a mess. I finally got my birthday and anniversary cards written out for the month-some will be early but a few will be late! I need to have them ready at month end and then I could just mail them as needed but....not a high priority.
Vicky & I worked in the park gardens late morning-we put out some of the birdhouses we have collected and did some weeding and trimming. I invited them over to have bean soup with us this evening and we played cards for a couple of hours.before eating.
I had to hurry in and do a bit of cleaning and ironing and finally got my shower before they arrived. Vicky said she got about an hour nap-I should have taken one but barely got it all done as it is!
Have a great Sunday.
Pat

Well, all ---- It is DONE! I got the call from my agent who informed me that he has signed the papers. He is still saying he has had the furnace serviced and the ducts cleaned. We have said show us proof otherwise have it done as there is no sign off on the furnace. He also said that the Water heater was only 6 months old and that is not true. Water heater is original one that was put in when that house was built in 2001. The furnace was last serviced in 2001. So, no matter what the furnace will be service and the ducts will be cleaned.

I am just so happy that this is over and done with. Now the fun begins with the paint and new carpet. And fixing it up.

Pat - Glad that Bill is doing better and things are starting to get better.

Gail - Boy, what a day you had. You must be really tired.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Yesterday it was go, go, go. Travis came at 9:15 am and stayed till about 11:30am. Then my neighbor came and helped me pack books that were in the basement. She brought 15 boxes up and put them in my SUV. I had enough time for a salad and then Robert and Cathy, two people from hospice, came at 1:30pm and they stayed till 3:30pm packing boxes of things to take to the thrift shop. When they left I brought the 15 boxes my neighbor helped me with to the book store. While the book store staff went through the stuff I went to the gym to relax in the hot tub. I was totally spent. Today my family is coming over to take a china cupboard/bookcase and this evening I'm taking a friend to dinner for her birthday. Then, early next week the professor will come to label boxes to send to the institute in NY. Midweek the hospice folks will come and at the end of the week Travis will come for another carload of stuff to sell. It's never ending..... I think you can well understand why it's so necessary for me to take a break every month or two.

I had no internet service from 1:30pm toabout 9pm last night. When I turned on the TV I noticed I wasn't getting all the channels. I picked up the phone thinking it was best to call Charter. Imagine my fright when I noticed I didn't have telephone service either. I have a cell phone but I use it so rarely I only know how to make a call and send a text. I don't know what to do when I dial a number and the autovoice says, Press 1 for English, 2 for Spanish, etc. My cell screen goes black and I don't know how to get the key pad back. That happened to me when I called Charter, but somehow I got to a human. Problem was that the connection ended mid call and I didn't know what to do. I called my daughter and she called them and straightened it all out. Thank God for small mercies. I've got to learn to use that cell phone. Now the phone and Internet are all right, but I don't know about the TV because I haven't turned it on.

Such a day! LOL

Today my plan is to REST.

What are you all doing today?

G.

Enjoy each day.

Sandy-fingers crossed that FINALLY the deal will be signed and you can relax!!

It is now after midnight and I need to get to bed so I can get up before 6 to walk before the heat gets toooooo unbearable. It has been another crazy, busy day. Walked, then put out the mulch on the west side of my house and trimmed the plants over there-my poinsettias for the last time and now I will let them get big and hopefully they will look great at Christmas. I came in and ate breakfast and then made a couple of phone calls-cancelled my newspaper-$322 a year for it priced it right out of the budget!!! They made all kinds of offers-I finally took them up on just getting the Sunday paper for less $$ than I would spend to go get it at the store.
I called about a bill I got from the surgeon who did DH's back surgery in Feb 2010!! They say we owe $27. Told them his supplement should have paid this-they are telling me it was denied in Dec 2011. Well, I pulled everything out and went thru my receipts for 2010, 2011 and 2012 and from what I can see they billed medicare twice for the same thing and they paid it twice and the supplement was smart enough to not pay twice. Don't mess with someone who did accounting for a living!! My next call is to medicare to see if they actually paid it twice and if so they need to do some looking at this and get back quite a bit of $$-we are talking thousands.
DH had to see the oncologist at 11 and things were ok. Thought he might get to go off his medicine but platelet count was up so has to continue taking it daily. However, he is going to let him go 2 months before another visit.
We ran some errands after that-stopped at my bank to cash the check for the park stuff I do, then went to another bank to make our car payment, went to the pet store to get Abbie food and her treats and last stop was at Lowes for more mulch-I didn't have enough! I found a neat bear on clearance for the yard so got myself a birthday present!
Home by 3:30 and Vicky called to invite us to dinner with them and their daughter and her family and then to play some cards. We had to be ready for that by 6 and in the meantime I took time to do more research on the medical billing. I wanted to go over everything and make sure of my facts and I think I will go online and see what I can find out there before trying to call. I never have much luck calling medicare!
We didn't get home till about 11:30 so it has been a long day and time to get some sleep or I won't get up in the morning!

OK, as of 8PM last night he was still thinking about the furnace and the mouse traps. emoticon They got back together this morning at 10 am to go over it again. I received a e-mail from my Agent with the HOA information saying not to worry it is pretty much a done deal. But, he hasn't signed the papers yet. So, I will let you all know. I am going out for a walk and do some errors to keep my mind off the whole thing.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Sandy, I have a feeling the seller's agent sat down and had a little talk with him about the joys of being reasonable once in a while. We can all want everything on a silver platter. But after a while we come to realize in various circumstances that we have to adjust our expectations just a bit, and it sounds like this guy is only just now realizing that he's included in that "we" thing. I hope everything keeps on going well and that there are no sudden surprises for you in all of this. (I frequently wish that there was an emoticon of crossed fingers...)

As far as being a good friend, I remember when I finally got sick enough for my MS to be diagnosed. MS isn't nearly as serious a thing as cancer, but the same sort of thing happened to me that may be happening to my friend. I couldn't work for several months and had a lot of problems even after I went back to work. And a lot of people I had thought were friends just suddenly weren't around. (Well, it's hard to say "a lot" because I never had a huge number of friends, but my diagnosis certainly made that number smaller all of a sudden.) I remember what that felt like and I don't want my friend to feel that sense of isolation to go along with her total boredom. She's going to live through this, she just needs some support and someone to listen to her and let her cry once in a while.

Work has been okay. Of course there are things I don't like about the new schedule, but there are more things that I think I'm going to love. emoticon One of them is no more training students and new employees. emoticon I'll always do a bit of that, but I'll be walking in at the end of someone's day and taking over, rather than following someone around all day and letting them do the work that I want to be doing and getting out of the way. I think that will be a lot easier for me to deal with.

Little Kitty waited until 7:00 this morning to start walking on me, and she didn't do it nearly as extensively as she did at 5:00 yesterday morning. Maybe she's already starting to get used to this new schedule...I hope... emoticon Anyway, I have less time between getting off work and having to go to bed than I used to so I'd better finish up on the computer and start getting ready for bed. I hope you all have a fabulous Friday.

There was much rejoicing!

So, the Seller has excepted the decrease in the price. emoticon Now, we are just waiting on the furnace maintenance and cleaning and the rodent traps OK from the Seller. Then we are done. Thank goodness he had no problem with the reduction in price. That was my only fear. The seller has been such a problem even for his Agent. The sellers Agent has been so helpful in working with us. He's from the same agency that my Agent is with so that makes it really good.

That is all for now will update you as soon as I know more. emoticon emoticon
