Good Morning from the Ukraine:

The internet service aboard the ship is iffy at best so I cannot write much or often. The staff and other passengers are all so nice and the food is very good. The kitchen is very accommodating for those who have special needs.

It has been hotter than blazes here but the buses are lightly airconditioned and the cabins are comfortable. I've gone on a city tour of a couple of cities and visited a museum. Yesterday we saw a Cossack horse show that was really nice. In the evening there was a show that featured Ukrainian songs. The singers/musicians were all very charming and did a good job. So far we have been sailing on the Dneiper River, starting in Kiev. Soon we'll be entering the Black sea. I can't wait till we get to Odessa; that's where my dad was born.

Wishing you all a good week and sending hugs,

Gail

Sandy, sooner or later you'll find a house that fits your needs and is being sold by a reasonable person. I'm sorry that this wasn't the one and that you wasted a bunch of your time on it, but I'm confident that you're going to find the right house. emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

So, we final heard late yesterday. After my final offer he came back with $ 399,000.00. That is on the table for 5 days. My Agent said No, good lucky and thank you. We walked away. The Agent is now planning on lowering the Price to $ 419,000.00 and staging it. BUT, not fixing any of the problems we talked about. Good luck with that one. He has a whole bathroom that doesn't work. Sorry had to vent. Anyways, we are back looking again and so far we haven't seen much. We looked at a few this morning while it was nice and cool and did walk through a few too. We are home now as it is about 85 here and that is really hot for the Northwest. No one here really has air conditioning. At least most of the homes we looked at didn't. We have a portable one which help what ever room we are sitting in at the time.

Most of the homes were nice just the bed rooms were too small and no where to expand or the bathroom was and the same thing. Up here they have Power lines some times running through the yards and we don't want that nor be near a school or freeway. So, those are some of the other problems we have run into today with the homes. So, started with 20 ended with 3 that we will look at on Monday. I will look again tomorrow and see if anything new came up. I am glad it is over my stress is now gone back up a little not as bad as it was. Maybe it was a good thing that I went through as I feel much calmer than I did when this started.

Have a great weekend.

Thank you Pat! And thank you everyone!

So, far we have not heard anything since we send the Seller our final offer. He is still thinking about it according to his agent. I am looking at other homes. DH looked yesterday at two for me to see if they were in good areas or if they were even worth looking at. Both were not. I couldn't go as I hurt my back moving a box and was taking it easy. I am doing better today. I was able to pack a few holes where I had pictures hanging and touch the paint on a couple of the walls.

DH and I are thinking it may be after the 4th of July before we hear from the Seller. My Agent thinks he may need to lick his wounds. As I told both of them let him be as you get more bees with honey. By leaving him alone and acting as thou I don't care and moved on it may help in my favor. We will see. But, there may be something better too.

Well, we are in for a heat wave here. we are to get up to 90 degrees by Tuesday! EEK! emoticon emoticon

They are suppose to break records in California deserts this week 134 degrees! Not for me! Bad enough when it above 70.

Stay cool everyone and have a great weekend.

Anyone made any plans for the 4th of July? emoticon

We are just staying in and staying cool.

Sandy here is hoping things work out as you wish. I know this is really frustrating but just keep looking. Sometimes it is nice to tell someone like this you have moved forward and found something else but on the other hand if it is something you really want.......anyhow best wishes no matter what!!!
I walked at 6:30 and after getting in the 10K, I stopped long enough for breakfast and then headed back to Lowes for more rock. Today I only did 8 bags of river rock. My body was telling me it had a bit much yesterday so didn't push it too far today. I cleaned up my potted plants when I got the rock done and added more dirt and fertilizer before returning them to the side of the house.
Today was bath day for Abbie so once I got the outside stuff done, I got her bathed and then I headed to the shower.
I have finished 2 areas so far and plan to work on the back of the house tomorrow. That is pea gravel and not sure how much it is going to take to get it looking good. I am thinking 15-20 bags. I know it would be cheaper to get a truck load, but harder for me to do as I would have to bucket it from truck all the way around the house and there would be a lot of shoveling. DH figured out we can load the bags on the hand truck and haul them much easier. I still have to lug them around to spread the rock but it does help a lot./
Hope all of you have a wonderful weekend.
Pat

Sandy, hope you get the house at your price! I hate the thought of moving!

Yesterday Bill went to the church to help put an electric sign up. Several signed up to hel but all that showed up was another 70+ man. It was really hot/humid at 8 am when they met. He said they went inside the church to cool off & drank lots of water. The preacher came by at 1 pm & made them quit until 5 pm & then he gatherered together some more people & they have the poles up. I got out & finished weeding the upper flower garden by the fish pond before he left. Then, after he left, I started opening closet & such & puklled out stuff to get rid of--coats/jackets, bags, tarvel bags, etc. I wnet thru the upper kitchen cabinets & 1 standing cabinet pulling out stuff I knew we wouldn't be using. After that I went into the back hall way & began to pull movies off the shelves. I think I ended up with about 50. i called a friend & told her to come over. She has a disabled son living with her & has a hard tie of it. During the summer she has yard sales. She brought me a gnome that's sitting on a swing but is mossing the rope. I'd wanted one but didn't get it so I was vey happy to get it & Bill said he could replace the rope for me. It really feels good to get rid of so much but, as it's behinf doors you can't really tell.

Tonights the last night at the auction until Sept. Maybe, we'll finish up all the projects with it being closed.

Val, that test saved my liffe. They'll be able to find out what's wrong & fix it.

It's beginning to get hot/humid & I need to get busy so hope everyone has a good & safe day!

sorry about the house Sandy and about your DH pat, you really have your hands full. I guess that is the better or worse part of marriage, we have to take care of those we love when they start falling apart.
I am going out of town for the weekend, you all have a safe and fun 4th.

Wow, that's quite a turnaround. I hope he's gotten wise and accepts your offer. If not, you'll find another house that suits your needs. But I sure do hope that you can end up buying this one and not have to go through all of this again. (There are times when I wish there was an emoticon for crossed fingers. This would be one of them.)

Ok, here is the latest! Now, we started to look this morning and I got a call from my Agent. I thought it was on the 2 home I had just sent her. NOPE! She received a call from the other Agent on the home we liked and his seller is in need of move time to think about our input and what to do. Soooo, My Agent is Now going to send out Finial Offer to them so not to waste anyone's time and let them know we will not settle for anything more then $ 370,000.00 FINIAL OFFER take or leave it as we are looking to buy.

So, That is the latest for now. I think after my Agent gave it to them yesterday and made them realize that they are Way Over the Market $ in that area for that home and the # of days they have been on the market, 140 days about 5 months, and no one has made an offer or looked at it. Plus all the problems with the homes that have to be done still and the finishes. The seller may want to cut his losses. We think he didn't have an inspection on the home and ended up having to put in a French drainage around the home which ended up eating up all his money to remodel the home. OOPS! That is why it is so important to have a Home Inspection done so you find these things out.

It may take a while for him to come around, hopeful not tooo long. If we haven't found a home by then we will take it and start work. But, we really wanted to know before the end of the month so we could have told our landlord as we would of gotten this next month free and that would of been good. But, that is ok, we are still looking.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Sandy so sorry to hear that the seller is not that interested in moving the property but glad you have the right attitude about it. We had a house we both dearly loved before we ended up buying another one. We thought it would be easier and faster to assume their loan and then get our own loan thru our bank. Well, that was a big mistake. They asked for more information than we were willing to give them after we had given all ourcurrent financials. They wanted to go back upteen years and all kinds of stupid stuff so we decided that the house was just not meant to be and within 3 months found another we liked even more in the same area-about 2 miles away! And the kicker, we got it for about $10,000 less that the first house!
Val I hope you will finally get some answers. I had DH to the gastro dr today and dr says he is still very anemic even though he has been on iron supplement for 6 mo. He believes he still has small areas that are bleeding and will do an endoscopy in late July to cauterize and hopefully stop the bleeding. He did this last year and said then it would likely be ongoing thing. So, he will have cataract surgery one week and this done the following week.

So, He is a idiot! He ended up coming back with prices out of the area of the house to try to explain the reason for the price. My Agent just about came unglued. In the end he admitted he may not be a $ 439k home but, it was a $ 420 or $ 415k. As my Agent to him you really need to get out and get to know your areas a little better as the house is only worth at best $380k on a good day. She then pointed out that the downstairs bath is not working ( toilet leaks & shower handle is striped), all the closets do not have kits in them (original to the house -old school) one of the poles to hang your clothes on is at a 90 degree angle to the point you can't hang your clothes on but you hang yourself on it (meaning him), all the face plates don't match and all the fixtures are not up to date and so on. He said yes that is true. With that my Agent told him that he wished him and his seller luck as she does not think that they are ready to deal and just wasted her time and her clients time. That we will be parting ways and that there will be no counter offer as it is not worth it as they have no idea what the home sales are in the area.

So, we are going back out tomorrow to look at homes. Unless he changes his mind over night and comes back and agrees to a lower offer we are going to move ahead and I am go with that. For every door that closes another one will open. And there is always a reason for things happening the way they do.

Just wanted to update all of you. Thank you for all!

Wow! This seller must misunderstand the market he's in...or any market that's out there right now. As I recall, his house has been on the market for about a year with no other offers having been made. At this point in time he should be fixing the things that need fixing and thinking about lowering his price by more than just $10,000. Good luck with it all. I hope it works out in the end, or that you find another house that you like. But mostly I hope this guy gets a bit smarter and decides to accept your offer. If his house has been on the market for a year without any other offers, that should say something to him that he's apparently refusing to hear.

There was much rejoicing!

Copperpenny - In answer to your question - Yes, your home value would go up if that house was appraised at a higher price than yours.

So, The seller came back with $ 10,000.00 less. Really motived, Not! His agent said that our comps showed that his asking price showed that. My Agent started laughing as it showed just the opposite and she told him that. Now the Sellers Agent says he has the Comps to show us that the house is priced right. Oh Now, He has it. He didn't before. So, my Agent said lets give him a couple of hours and see that he comes up. In the meantime she is going to pull the Comps she thinks he is going to pull and be prepared to show him that they are not comparable. Which they are not as I have looked at the homes that have sold and the ones that are for sale plus what has been done to the home and what stills to be done. Plus there are only 1 1/2 baths that were remodeled and the 3rd bathroom is non working as the toilet leaks and the handle to the shower is striped so the water doesn't turn on. That is just to name a few things that the inspector mentioned.

So, we will wait to see what he sends then we will send the finally offer along with the list of items that need to be done and see what happens. But, it is my finally as starting tomorrow am back out looking again. emoticon As Mom and grandma use to say if it is meant to be it is meant to be. So, we will see.

I will keep you all posted. Have a great rest of the week.

Val - I am really glad that you will be getting it done. I know it isn't fun but, at least you will find out what is going on and have information you need one way or another.

Well, we got everything done and went in at $ 360,000.00 and we want to wrap everything up by July 2nd. I want to be able to give our landlord 30 day notice by the end of this month then next month will be a free month for us and that is extra money in our pocket. My Agent looked at all the homes that were like the one I am buying with about the same square footage on average they were all going for about $ 360,000.00. So, hopefully the seller is really motived to sell like his Agent said he is and will either agree or come back close to what I want. The home we are renting we have found out probably has mold as our Agent said she could smell the moistness in the home plus we think there are animals in the attic area of the home and the landlord was to check that ever year and hasn't. So, my Agent now is trying even hard to get this deal to go though quickly to get us out of here. Lets hope that all goes right for once and we are able to get this house at the price we would like and not have to go back out looking again!

Thank you everyone for al you finger crossing and prayers and support. I hope that all of you are having a great week! Much love and Thanks!

Well I went to see my doctor today for my yearly and we talked about the intestinal issues I've been having. He said that a diagnosis of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (or did he say Irritable Bowel Disease? They actually are a bit different.) can be arrived at by seeing a gastroenterologist and doing a whole bunch of tests or by doing a colonoscopy. Well neither one of those options sounded very pleasant, but since I'll be at the age for a colonoscopy next year I figured I'd rather go that route. Someone should be calling me in the next few days to set up that appointment. What fun for me. emoticon Fun or not, it should give a lot of valuable information about whatever has been going on with my gut.

I'm going back next month for a get acquainted with your new doctor type of appointment. I can't remember whether or not I've mentioned this, but my doctor is going to be leaving the clinic I go to and running a clinic at one of the high schools in town. We talked about that and it turns out that he will only be seeing "community" (non high school students) patients one afternoon a week so I will have to start seeing a different doctor. (Also, the high school where the clinic will be is literally all the way across town from where I live, more than half an hour away.) I'll be seeing a female doctor now and I guess we'll just see how things go. If I don't like her I can choose a different doctor when it's time for my yearly next year. I'd actually like to be able to see a doctor who works at the hospital where I work so I guess I could look into that.

So that's the story of my day. I hope you've all had a great one. emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

Sandy that is great that the house passed inspection and only minor things need attention. Now fingers crossed that you and the seller can come to terms you can live with.
Tammy sounds like it is a good thing you are headed to higher country and will be away from the heat.
Penny you were a busy beaver today and sounds like you got a lot accomplished. We just have to do it when we are able. I have felt really tired today so haven't pushed myself too hard. All that heat yesterday took it out of me.
Boyd continue to make small advances. They took the chest tube out today and liver is doing much better but kidneys are still not where they would like them to be. If he continues to improve, they may take him off the ventilator tomorrow. Slow steps, but in the right direction.
I took DH to the eye dr this afternoon and he agrees it is time to remove the cataract. He has almost no vision now in the "good" eye so really nothing to lose at this point. It is scheduled for July 16.
Time to think about supper so hope all of you have had a good day.
Pat

We went out early & I mowed the yard & the orchard. Looks so much better. Bill worked in the boat hose getting rid of stuff. I've already hung one load of was out & the towels will be ready soon. On good days I can get a lot done but they don't seem to come as often as I'd like them to.

Shrivers, I really hope you get the home that you want. The people below us built a Dallas type home. I wonder. does that make our (and the other 5 homes) go up in value?

The towels are ready to go out so hope everyone has a good & safe day!

The inspection went really well most of it was minor things but, we are not letting the seller know that. My Agent spoke to the other Agent to find out where they came up with the price for the house which they call comps. The other Agent couldn't give her an answer - That is a Big HMMMM and a + in my favor. Then she brought up about the house right next door selling for $ 350,000.00. Oh, he had an answer for that one. The people were in distressed and need to sell fast. HMMM, Yeah No, it still brings the homes around you down if a home sells for less than it's worth - it is going to hurt you no matter what. SO, my Agent let the other Agent know that we going to put together a proposal and get it over to him by 1PM tomorrow. My Agent is going to see what has sold homes ,like the one I am buying , are going for and how the Market is doing in that area. Then we will put in all the things that need to be done to the home and the price break down to why we have come up with the Price that we have. Tomorrow my Agent and I will discuss the price that we are going to start at and My final offer price. Both myself and my Agent said we only want to go back twice any more than that it's too much. We were very happy with the inspection and that nothing Major was found. I even asked the inspector if he would buy this house and he said he would as it has a sound foundation and strong bones. That made me feel really good. But, mostly today when DH and I were walking around we both turned and said to each other that it felt really homey to us. Now, If we just could get it at the right price and get the Master and a few other things done for about $ 30,000 or less that would make me a real happy camper.

So that is the News for today on what is going on. The house will be in an area call Brier, WA. It is really quiet and is not over developed, not a lot of kids, not too many trees, street isn't very busy, and it is still close to very thing that we are close to now. It's 6 beds now but, after we get done putting a Master suite it will be 5 bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms. Oh boy! Here I go, I will stop.

Well, I hope everyone is having a great week. Pat I hope your friend is doing better. Gail, how is the packing going? I know you much be very excited.

Love to you all and Thank you for the support! emoticon

Copper, is it irritable bowl syndrome? My mother-in-law has that, and she has to be very careful of what she eats.
Your yard sounds nice, I would love something like that, but my hubby isn’t the gardening type, we had 1/3 of an acre and I went crazy planting and gardening, But it got to be to much for me, he doesn’t even mow the lawn. So we have a small garden area that I can keep up with and I mow the lawn when my son doesn’t. So it works for us.

Gail I hope you enjoy your trip, its so nice you can do this.

Sandy, good luck tomorrow, yes if the house has been on the market that long he may be willing to negotiate some. And an inspection is a good idea for sure.

We have had raining and thunder most of the day today, it is supposed to be 100 this weekend, I will be back at my daughters high in the mountains so it should be 20 degrees cooler there I hope. But after this trip I am ready to stay home for awhile.

Pat your friend sounds very sick, I hope it all works out ok.

Have a good evening

Gail do not know if you will get back on before you leave or not but I hope you have a wonderful time and the weather is fantastic for you. I am so excited for you that you are getting to go on these trips. Just sad that you and DH didn't get to do some trips instead of collecting "things". Glad the things are financing your travels now.
Sandy am anxious to hear how the inspection went and then if your offer is accepted. If the seller is anxious to move it then hopefully he will bite!
Penny it sounds like you are making adjustments-it is hard to accept we can't do everything we once did but it happens to all of us. That is one reason we left STL-we had 3/4 of an acre and DH could not do much so had to hire that all done and that got expensive. We still have to hire things done, but on a much smaller scale and here I can do a lot of it and we use friends for labor and they aren't nearly as expensive! Seniors still like to earn a little spending $$ and it works for both of us.
I got out to walk at 6 this morning as I knew the curb people were coming but wasn't sure what time. I had my 10K in before 8, breakfast done and did a couple of little things around home before they arrived at 9. They did a really good job and the 4 guys had it done and were on their way to the next job before noon. See my blog for pics.
After they left, I checked and my steps were over 13,000, I was busy following them around, taking pics, answering questions, etc. I was soaked so it was into the shower for me after that.
We went to Subway for a late lunch as DH wanted to go shoot the bull with the guys at the clubhouse at noon and he didn't get back till almost 1:30. I had a chopped salad and even shared that with DH.
Talked to Betty this evening and Boyd is improving-slowly but she sounded more optimistic. His kidneys continue to improve and the liver has started to function again. She is hoping they will start to wake him up some tomorrow and maybe remove some of the tubes that she says are coming out of everywhere! Keep those prayers coming-they are working.
Once my concrete dries-3-4 days, I will have to start moving the rock back and deciding how much more we will need-they had to space the curbing further from the house and beds than the former edging was so will need more rock, just not sure how much. I am going to get my workout doing all of that.
Pat

Gail, we live on approx. 3 acres & Bill is 73 (Sept) & I am 68 (April). We did hire someone to use the wheelbarrow in putting a new level of gravel on the pathways. I've been trying to cut back on the work we have to do to keep everything up. We're down to just chickens & geese We turned the goat pasture into a orchard with plum, apple & peach trees. Put up another blackberry patch. We used 3 cattle panels, in a roll, to make arbors. Put it next to the old blackberry patch which we'd done the same way. The grape arbor is done in the same way. You can walk under it & pick the fruit. We made a new bed where we'd gotten rid of the chestnut bed. That's now a bed for his squash. It ends up with less mowing for me. I've had him spray with Round-Up so there's not too much trimming to be done. Then we have some large flower beds. Seems we go in a circle to keep them weeded but we give the weeds to the chickens/geese so it works out. I've asked him if he wants to sell & move to a senior center but he says no. We'll stay here. But I think you're right in moving to a smaller place. I hope that you'll find one that you love as much. Good luck on your trip.

I hope Kurt gets a good & steady job. Used to be teachers & nurses were always needed. Our school put in a big, very expensive gym & then cut out some art classes & laid off some teachers. Just doesn't make sense.

S, where are you planning on moving to? I seem to have missed it. Good luck on that.

Val, I can't eat cabbage at all. The doctor told me that it would be like throwing gasoline on a fire. I can eat lettuce once in a while but not very often. And i can't take anything for loose bowels. I've had surgery where they had to remove a part of the intestine twice. For some reason my body does scar tissue growth where I have to have surgery jut to remove the excess. They tell me I'll have to have another one in the future. Only, it's not just the cabbage/letuce. It seems it can be just about anything. It's gotten to where I don't enjoy going out to eat any more. You have to know where all the restrooms are at all time. And now, my youngest daughter is having the same problem although she's not had any surgery for it yet. She's complaining that she got all the bad thing passed down in th family.

It's hot & very humid. Hope everyone is happy & keeping safe!

Good Morning:

I've been assembling things to take on vacation for several days, but, with my trip starting tomorrow, this morning I'm packing in earnest. To tell the truth, I thought the temps would be in the high 60s to high 70s. You cannot begin to imagine my shock to learn that for the next week or so it will be in the high 70s to high 80s! It escaped me that the Black Sea is the eastern European equivalent of Florida. I also have an overnight (24 hours) in Amsterdam where it will be in the high 50s to high 60s. Oh, well, it just takes a few adjustments.

I don't know if I'll be able to get back on the computer today so let me wish you all a healthy, safe and happy week ahead.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Luckily Gail we only had one day of the heat. Today is overcast and drizzling. We are to have rain the next couple of days. It was muggy today though. But, I do drink a lot of water or homemade ice tea anyways.

We did some more packing today. I have the living/dinning room done, den is done, 2 bathrooms and 2 bedrooms are done. So, I just have the Master, Kitchen, garage, mudroom, and office/craft to do. The office is just the files into a box as the rest are already in see thur boxes. So, I real don't have much more to do.

Tomorrow is the big day with the Full inspection of the house. I had the choice of half or full. And I decided on Full as I would rather have as much as I can to go at the seller with the reason why I feel the house is worth the price I am going at him with. To be very honest he only put $50,000.00 into and it all went to the kitchen and some light fixtures and sink in Master and downstairs. The interior doors, windows and closet are all original to the house. The hall closet shelves are pressboard and on the short side. The doors to the rooms have holes that have been filled, sanded and stained to match the original door. He paid cashed of $ 270,000 and he is asking $ 450,000. So, with that said you kind of see why I am really wanting to see what is going on with the house. He was trying to flip the house but, no one has made an offer or even looked at, except for me so far. It has ben on the MLS for 140 days now. So, we will see if he'll take my offer or end up counter with another. we will wait to see.

Hope everyone has a get week! Sorry for going on for so long about the house.

Evening-good news and so-so news. A/C is working-came on late into the evening. Not happy with the company-tech never returned nor did anyone call us today to check to see if we had a/c! They are not coming back and didn't collect any $$$$ nor will they!!

Boyd is hanging in there-talked to Betty this afternoon-he has gotten 15 units of plasma and 4 units of blood. Kidneys are functioning but not great yet but hopes they will come on back. Liver is still not functioning but believe it too will start. His INR rate dropped today - rate of clotting. It was 10 when he arrived and has fluctuated from 10 to 9 to 6 to 9 and down to a 3 this afternoon. That is good because it means his blood is starting to clot again and the bleeding should be stopping. If they can feel confident he will clot, they want to put in a pericardio window to keep an eye on the heart but for now that is on hold.

Hope all of you have had a great weekend.

Pat

Gail, no I thought I would give it a shot tonight and see if it works, I am experimenting on some bedspreads I have, I have a ton of queen size but no full or twin so I am cutting them down and making some side seams to see what they look like. At over $50.00 each, new, if I can alter some it will save me a lot of money, but they have to look good also.
I agree about traveling when you can, we saved and planned for a couple of years for a trip to Europe, we spent 5 weeks there and it was a lot of fun, but we went to 7 countries I think in that time period, I would recommend only one or two to be able to see more of one country. Everyone thought we were crazy but when we get older it won’t be as easy, or we may not be able to afford it like now, we did this right before everything went to heck in the country.
I know all about the aches and pains, I wish mine went away throughout the day, I think planning ahead is a smart decision.
Sandy I am like that also, I think way ahead of my DH, it causes some problems because I have already packed and decided where we will go and what we will do, weeks before the actual vacation. I sometimes have to change my plans, but my mind is always going it seems. I wish my body worked half as hard.
Well Its time to go tackle the serger, wish me luck emoticon .

Good Morning;

Tammy: Did you fix your serger? What are you making, or are you doing mending?

Penny: What have you been up to lately?

Sandy: Don't overdo it pushing yourself when it is very hot. Do you have AC? Be sure to keep drinking water; you can easily get dehydrated when it's very hot and humid.

Val: Don't beat yourself up about throwing away the modem. I used to beg Vic to teach me basic things but he never did. He equated love with dependency. I'm at sea over even small things because of that and am just learning many things now as they come up. It wasn't until he became ill that I learned how to open and close our manual garage door, more than 30 years after we had move into our home. Vic wanted to do it all and have me turn to him for anything involving the computer, electrical and mechanical problems.

Pat: Oh dear! I'm so sorry you're having AC problems when it is so hot. Hope the unit is all right for a long time yet. That AC stuff can get very expensive. Do you have room air conditioners or central air? My central air unit is 35 years old and still going. I hope it doesn't conk out on me, but I guess like all things I shouldn't be surprised if it does.

Nan: How did the visit with the grandchildren go? How many did you have over and what did you all do? Do they live nearby?

Sandy that is a good thing-being prepared and ahead of the game is how I like it too. I hate it when people are always running late or have little regard for others time. I sure hope everything works out and by Aug you are in your new home.
Gail I think it is wise to start thinking of where you want to be "later" on. I know it is hard for some folks to accept that "nothing is forever" but I think you have already reached that point. We are working on making adjustment to our home for down the road. We know we want to "age in place" here so now is the time to do it while we are able. Have you started thinking about where you would go? Now is the time to scout out things. We looked for 6 years before we settled here! How is that for taking your time looking emoticon .
I didn't get up early today so didn't get out to walk till 8:30 and was it hot out there. Of course, that late, lots of other folks were out so I "talked" too much and didn't get back home until almost 10:30!
I got the family room cleaned and we drug our area rug out from under our bed-had stored it there while DH was in the wheelchair and using the walker. Once that was done and after I fixed lunch, we both took a nice hour nap!!!
Had a company service our a/c and of course they didn't arrive till late afternoon and that is when we get the storms. - well we got one this afternoon and evidently the a/c got wet while he was cleaning it and it quit working. He quit when it got really bad and said he would be back when it quit raining but haven't seen hid nor hair of him and luckily about 8 the a/c started putting out cool air again!!! We haven't paid anything so....will see how this one goes down! Did leave a message at corporate office so they know about this in case we have a problem! Our unit is a 1996 so we expect it to go anytime,.but not while it is being cleaned!
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.
Pat

First full day of my vacation. Hooray! I got to sleep in until about 5:00, got up for a while, and then went back to bed until about 9:00. After that I had to go buy a new cable modem because yesterday I spilled a glass of water on the desk and killed the old one. emoticon After I brought the new one home I got stupid and threw the old one in the trash...and later realized that it was most likely owned by Comcast and not me. I just went out to look and I don't think there's any way that I'll be able to get it out of the dumpster so whenever I move and have to transfer my service I'll have to pay for the darn thing. Oh well. At least I have one that works now.

The other thing I did while I was at Best Buy was talk to someone about having a technician come here and set up my wireless network. When I bought this computer I didn't realize that it's a wireless and since I wasn't sure if I had all of the necessary security stuff I just turned wireless off when I was setting it up...and then couldn't figure out how to turn it back on when I decided that I had what I needed. So someone is going to come out around 8:00 or 9:00 tomorrow to set everything up...and THEN I can really start my vacation, once I've got a computer that works and I don't have to worry about people coming over and seeing what a mess my apartment is anymore.

In answer to Gail's question, my intestinal issues have been a lot better since I stopped eating salads every day this week. It makes me sad because I was really loving the salads, but I can definitely live without the issues. I'll probably start eating salad again soon, but not every single day for a while. I hope that everyone is having a great weekend. I know I'm loving having one that's 11 days long. emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

Beautiful day here today. In the high 70's. emoticon

I'm just packing a head of time. Just a thing I do no matter if I had a home or not. I am not one to wait till the last minute. I have always been that way. I am even packed a week before vacation too. I'm a little weird (and anal). I think it all comes from the fact of doing something at the last minute and forgetting things. I promised myself I would never do that again. So, now I stay ahead of the game. When I go on trips I have a list that I print out for both myself and DH so, that we don't forget things.

Taking a brake today from packing due to the heat.

Have a great weekend.

Good Morning:

It rained a lot yesterday and all through the night. I believe we are in for rain all weekend. I never made it out yesterday. Travis came in the morning and took a carload of things to sell for me. We found four metronomes, very large model trucks, cars, fire engines, etc., a few old radios, tools, and various collectibles. We also uncovered many things that will go to the Hospice Thrift store: more vintage clothing, new mugs, a new garment bag for travel, etc. There is actually a bit of space in the southwest corner of the basement, enough so that we can more easily get to the boxes that line the wall (floor to ceiling) and have space to open them and view the contents.

Some of you have asked about my trip. I'll be flying to Amsterdam and getting a connecting flight to Kiev. There I'll be on a riverboat that will go to various ports on the Black Sea. On the way back I have a "forced 24 hour stay" in Amsterdam. The riverboat company is paying for my hotel and transfers; I only pay for my food and other expenses should I decide to go sightseeing. I'm using the proceeds of the things I sold to finance the trip. It's what I plan to do in the future too as Travis sells more and more things. Might as well travel while I can.

There is something that I have been thinking of a lot lately but haven't dared to mention. I'm getting older (aren't we all!) and am beginning to feel little aches and pains and stiffness in the morning when I get out of bed. Thank God it doesn't last, but it's there. Also, I find it a lot more difficult to get up off the floor. The other day I had to look for something in a hard-to-reach spot in my lazy susan cupboard. It took quite a bit for me to get up off the floor. Thankfully I was able to grab onto the kitchen sink and island. This worries me and that is one of the reasons I'm considering selling the house after I empty it. I'm still fine and independent, but these little aches won't get better; they'll only get worse. I'm pain free all day and know that I'd be much better if I got up off my butt to exercise (cardio) and stretch. Somehow, I don't have whatever it takes to do these things now while I still can. More shame on me. There are many days when I don't even leave the house. Perhaps I'm doing what I feel like doing now that I am no longer under the strict constraints of caring for Victor. The grief counselor says as long as I don't isolate myself I'll be all right. Going out, engaging even with strangers in everyday brief conversations, speaking on the phone...all of this counts.

My daughter called me yesterday to "check in" as she puts it. Yesterday was the last day of her Masters classes. Now she has to get her research approved and write her Master's thesis. I'm so proud of her. She's 49 and is doing something she always wanted to do. Helena doesn't need an MA for work; she's doing it because it means that much to her. Depending on how fast the approval process goes, she'll finish either in August or December.

Pat: It's great to hear Kurt is out of that awful basement apartment. Like Sandy, I don't do FB.

Sandy: It sounds like it's a "done deal" with the house since you've already started packing. I hope things go very smoothly for you.

Val: How you feeling this weekend? Has your GI problem gotten better?

Wishing you all a happy weekend.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Pat - Thank you for the update on Kurt. I hear from him once in a while when he is able to e-mail. I don't do Facebook. So, glad that you do. Thank you again.

Packed most of the day today. Was able to get one whole room done and half of another. It is basically just about done except for the kitchen. I will do that next week. We meet the inspector Monday at 8 A.M. I am still waiting on the number from the contractor. He is very picky which is good. We are hoping to get everything done and moved in, IF, all goes well, by August.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Val-I occasionally get a blip from Kurt thru FB. He is still searching for fulltime employment but did get out of the horrible place he was living. He has been putting out some more resumes so hopefully one of them will finally give him something better than the part-time jobs he has found.
I worked on shampooing my area rugs today-got 2 of them done and have one more to do. I guess I am a little late on my spring cleaning!! Would have gotten all 3 done but I could not find my cleaner-must have left it at dad's when we were cleaning things out and didn't realize it because I last used it at his house. While I was out getting it, I ran some other errands I had not planned on for today.

Someone in the group has some kind of contact with Kurt, can't remember who it is but as I recall there is someone who talks to him from time to time. As I recall, last we heard was that he was still trying to find a permanent job. I hope things are going okay for him.

There was much rejoicing!

Gail your trip sounds like so much fun and please do take some pictures to share with us.
Sandy I hope things work out for you on the house, don’t be to surprised if the sellers don’t drop the price for a new master, is the house priced competitively? If its overpriced they might . But like you said it all depends on how bad they want to sell.
What did you find out about your intestinal problems Val?
Pat you are as busy as usual it sounds like. I am sorry about your husband, he has a lot of health issues. That is a lot of work for you, take care of you and get some time for yourself.
Have a good evening everyone I think I will go fight with my serger some more, and see if I can get it to stitch right.

Gail that is great news-you work hard and then get a break. I am so looking forward to our planned trips in Oct & Feb. I wish we could travel more but until I get DH doing better, I don't want to get too far from home. Hoping by then he is doing a lot better.
I went blackberry picking this morning-hadn't done that in years! I made a cobbler this afternoon and froze enough for another one. They were soooo big.
I shared the cobbler with others since DH does not like blackberries-get under his plate and make his mouth sore. I also made dinner for Vicky & Sonny-he got out of the hospital this morning.
Late morning I took our neighbor to the store, he flew in over the weekend and doesn't have a car and has been walking to the gas station near us for something to eat. Now he has a little better selection.
I even managed to find time to go to the pool for about 45 min this afternoon and walked at 6:30 before going to pick the blackberries.
Sandy I hope things continue to fall into place on your possible new home!!

Good Morning:

I've got a carload of books and CDs that I'll be bringing to Half Price Books today. I'll also be dropping off the receipt for Hospice: I gave them over $3,100 worth of things yesterday and know they'll get good money for it. Among the high priced items there were about 100 new coffee table books about new 12 pairs of vintage designer shoes.

If you read my blog today you know I'm planning a trip to the Black Sea in the Ukraine, and will be leaving next week. I want to start to pack this weekend so that I don't have to rush to pick up some last minute items. It will be an exciting experience visiting an area where my dad was born.

I'm still reading Walter Mosely and enjoying every minute. Right now I'm into SIX LITTLE PIECES, some short stories in which Easy Rawlins is the main character. I got the rest of the books in the Easy Rawlins series from the library yesterday and hope to read most of them before I leave.

It's a beautiful day here in Mad town and I'm hoping it's beautiful where you are too.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Heard from my agent today will be having the inspection at 8am on Monday. That was the soonest she could get him to come out as he is really busy. She is going to talk to the other agent and let him know what is going on and feeling him out about the seller. She want to see how motived he is to sell, i.e. how much of a hit is he will to take so to speak, as is not going to get the amount he is asking. Since the first time we went in there has not been anyone since us as there were no other agents cards leave on the table at the house when we came back the second time. So, that is a good thing. So, we will see what happen on Monday and after I get the numbers on the remodel for the Master where things stand. Then I will make an offer.

Gail - I know that you will be so glad once everything is gone and cleaned out. You will feel free and naked all at the same time. I did after I cleaned out all my Mom's.

Pat - You have been a very busy lady lately. Proud of you though for all the random acts of kindness you are doing.

Val - How are you doing? Is you stomach doing better? You have the best positive attitude.

Nana - Always good to see you. Hope you had a great time with the grand kids.

Hope everyone is having a great week.

Gail it really is sad you had all this "stuff" and never even got to use it. At least you have found a worthwhile way to declutter -bit by bit! The best thing is having found someone to do the selling on e-bay for you.
Sandy sounds like things are progressing on the house- emoticon . Hope and pray it all comes together for you.
I got up early this morning and went to the hospital to sit with Vicky. Sonny had a heart cath and had to have one stent. He is spending the night in the hospital but if all remains stable will come home tomorrow.
I made a big pot of chicken and noodles this afternoon and shared it with several people. I took Vicky a bowl, along with Ruth who I usually share food with, also took our neighbor a bowl, we park in his driveway and he has flown down and doesn't have a car so thought he might enjoy something homemade and since DH doesn't really like leftovers, took the last bowl to our neighbor across the street- he is a widow.
I picked up the new shower base after I left the hospital. Wasn't sure it was going to fit in the Prius but once we got it out of the wooden crate, it slid right in. After I looked at it, I went back to look at tile and think I have decided on what I will use. Things are starting to come together.

Val: I didn't realize what I said. LOL The ladies came today and I gave them about 100 large coffee table books...all new. I also gave them new crystal wine glasses and crystal brandy snifters, some Franklin Mint framed prints (never hung) and some retro clothing that still had the price tags on them. There were about 15 pairs of new retro shoes. It's sad that Vic squirreled everything away and never even told me; I surely would have used many things over the years. Now it's too late. I'm not about to start entertaining. I just want a peaceful, quiet life.

Travis will come by Friday morning and take a bunch of things to sell on line. I'll get rid of yet more things. Woo Hoo!

Stay well,

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Gail, if anyone else had made that statement I would be very worried. emoticon But since you're the one who said it I'll just tell you that I'm really happy that you're clearing unneeded clutter out of your house and getting closer to the simplicity I know you want so much. I'm looking forward to the day when you tell us that you looked around your house (or at least a room in your house) and it looked empty to you. I know you're looking forward to that, too.

I hope things are going well for the rest of you and that Sandy's house search bears fruit really soon. I got home from work really late today so I'm going to get off the computer now. Everybody have a great day tomorrow.

There was much rejoicing!

Feeling a little better today. Just still taking it easy. Did meet with my Agent and her husband today and so far the figures look to be around the number that is going to work. But, he is going to give me the real numbers in a couple of days. So, we are going to move forward with the house. The next step is the inspection to see what he finds. I am hoping to get the house for $ 360,000.

Hope everyone has a great week.

Sandy: Hope you're feeling much better.

Pat: I think it's great that you get yourself out there for a walk nice and early. That way there is no opportunity to say it's too hot. You go girl!

Val; I'm so sorry you're having intestinal problems. Don't be down on yourself; this will be resolved. Tests are always a pain, but once you know the problem you'll address it and will feel much better.

Sandy emoticon soon. Never a fun thing to be ill. My DH is up and down with his tummy troubles so glad he will see the gastro dr next week.

Gail you have been so generous and I am happy to hear that things are selling quickly so that should really benefit hospice. It should also help you gain more space-inch by inch you are reclaiming your space. Have you figured out what you will do when it is all empty?? Will you feel strange? Having all that around you for so long I would think it would either be liberating when it is gone or it will feel like you are almost naked so to speak.

I walked very early-6:15 and it was already warm and muggy out there. I had my 10K in before 9 so that was a relief. I worked on moving more rock and hauled off 2 big buckets of sand and think I will have another couple of mornings to get this job finished. It gets too hot out there sorting the rocks out of the sand but hate to waste all of them. I plan to replace the red lava rock with river rock when we get the curbing installed. Too many projects all at the same time!

Good Morning:

Well, arrangements are in the making and I'll be having some folks come to pick up some boxes of books tomorrow night. If I get really lucky, the library will come out this week and so will the folks from the UW Slavic Studies Department.

Yesterday afternoon I stopped at the thrift store and saw what few coffee table books and bookcases were left from my Wednesday donations. The books have been flying off the shelves at $25-$30 a pop. I'm hoping the volunteers will come again on Wednesday afternoon to take away another carload of donations.

Yesterday our family went out for a Father's Day dinner and it was really lovely. Afterward, my daughter and I went to the cemetery to Victor's grave site. It was the first time Helena had been there since the monument was put up.

Wishing you all a good day,

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Tammy, DH's eyesight is pretty much gone. He had cataract surgery on right eye 10 yrs ago and developed cystoid macular edema and that has shut off pretty much all of the vision in that eye. Dr's told him they would not do the cataract on the left eye until it got so bad he had nothing to lose by doing the cataract surgery. Well, we are at that point so will be seeing the dr near mo end and get the surgery scheduled. He is seeing better now out of the right eye and that is like almost nil!
Val, when the platelets get too low, the dr just takes him off the hydrea and it comes back up. However, it is a delicate balance so that is why so many blood tests. Too high causes the blood to get thick and that could cause a stroke. So many issues to worry about! Kidneys are not at full function, eyesight, heart failure, prostrate cancer, sleep apnea, and still trying to figure out his tummy issues, yikes, what does work ok!???
Gail it sounds like another little chunk left but sorry you now have a mess to clean up. I hope you got a lot accomplished today and then enjoyed your dinner out.. It is wonderful that you knew who to go to to preserve these items for future generations. As Val said, so much history has been lost. It is wonderful that hospice is benefiting from your generosity. Such a wonderful group of people who do marvelous things in out hour of need.
DH had a really rough night so we both didn't get much sleep. He had your issues thru the night Val. He finally gave up on using his bi-pap machine as it slowed him down getting to the bathroom- emoticon . We are thinking it might have been caused by the shrimp he ate. I had bought him some peel and eat for Father's Day and he ate it yesterday afternoon late and this happened about 11 so.... not sure if that was the culprit or not. He has been fine today. Glad he sees his gastro dr at mo end. He too may need more testing.
We ended up sleeping till 9 as we were both exhausted! I have not walked the last 2 days so going to have to get back on track. I will go to the dr in early Aug and do not want to have gained anything and it would be nice to have lost a couple more lbs.
I went grocery shopping about 11 with my friend, Vicky and DH went to Lowes with Sonny, her hubby, and got his grill! We had looked earlier in the week, but no way to get it home. Sonny has a truck so now it sits on our carport and I will have to put him to work grilling for us! This one is much smaller and has a pan to catch any drips which is important since we don't want grease on our new stone on the driveway. We had put our old grill out in the grass by the carport but it is hot to stand out in the sun so now he can be back under the carport.
Hope everyone has had an enjoyable father's day.

Gail, I completely understand not wanting to go to all the trouble of trying to sell every possible thing that Vic left behind. I think that donating it to Hospice is a really great thing because they can certainly use the money they'll make by selling it. And I think it's wonderful that the professor is going to be able to make use of the archival material. It's a shame when bits of history are lost simply because nobody kept track of them. A number of years ago a dam was put up in China, I think it's called the Three Rivers Dam. They wanted to create this huge reservoir and they didn't care at all about the archaeological sites that were going to end up underwater. There was a huge push to excavate as many sites as possible before they were lost, but a huge number of sites could not be excavated before they were lost to the water. It made me very sad because the Chinese people have lost so much of their history because of this dam being put through so fast with no regard for what was going to be lost.

I'll be seeing my doctor on the 25th. Until then I think I'm going to have to eat fewer salads and more cheese and bananas. Having diarrhea all the time really dehydrates you, which is not a good thing, and I really need to get to work on time a bit more often than I have been recently. emoticon I'm going to ask my doctor to order the blood tests for food allergies. I'm not really sure that's what the problem is, but I'll never know until I get tested. And I suppose he'll need to check out some other things, too. Dang, I hate going to the doctor...

I hope you've all been having a great weekend. I'm getting ready to call my dad and wish him a happy Father's Day. I talk to my mom pretty much ever week but I hardly ever talk to my Daddy and today is a really good day to do that.

There was much rejoicing!

Gail: sounds like you are getting through stuff, that's good.

Sandy: In a way remodeling a house is better because like a new build you can do it like you want, good luck with whatever you decide. It is stressful though for sure.

Pat: Did you say your DH eyesight is about gone or ok? I hope ok.

Val:: hope the Dr. finds out what's wrong, allergy testing isn't bad, I had it done years ago, and of course I was allergic to everything around me, dogs, cats, grass, dust, mold, and more I can't remember, some affect me worse than others, but I am much better since I quit working in a dusty environment. I have not had food testing done though.

anyone I may have missed: I hope you all have a great fathers/ Sunday, and keep safe.

What a day! The professor came at about 10:45 am and worked straight through till 8:15pm. He went through boxes and boxes separating archival material and books that would go to an institute in NYC, the University of Wisconsin for their various departments, and to the Friends of the University Memorial Library for their book sale. There must be somewhere in the neighborhood of 60-70 boxes in my garage. Though they all came from the southwest corner of the basement, there is only a little space that was cleared since the boxes are stacked floor to ceiling and they were two layers deep. He left a bit of a mess with other items that had been packed in the same boxes as the books and archival materials, but that's ok. I'll try to clean it up in the next few days. Much of it will likely go to the Hospice Thrift shop since the vintage clothing flies off the racks.

Val: I could probably get a decent amount of money for much of this stuff but it's not worth the trouble to try to eke out every cent. I have a life to live. I'm taking a tax deduction for all of my donations and that's very helpful. Also, I'm selling a lot of stuff on the net, though I'm only getting 25% or less than what Vic paid for those things. The manager from Hospice told me that three of the larger new bookcases I gave them this week were purchased by one woman and she paid $50 for each one. As I mentioned, the bookcases were about 7' high and 3 1/2' to 4' wide and were still in the boxes...brand new. It does my heart good to know that the proceeds are going for such a good cause.

Well, I'm going to have some dinner and crash. Tomorrow Dave is coming around 8am to clean and at around 5pm I'm taking my daughter, sil and granddaughter out for a father's day dinner.

Take care everybody and sweet dreams.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Luckily our Landlord is working with us and we are month to month now. So, we don't have any problem there. The only really problem with the house SO far is the layout of the Master bedroom and bath - they are just too small. It is an older split level home built in 1985. The other problem with the bathroom is there is no window and it just has a fan. The fans don't really work as well as having a window. So, I don't think the owner will be willing to redo the Master for us. But, we have not done the inspection yet. I am going to see how much it will cost to redo the Master and go into the next room to make a larger Master suite. This home is 2587 sq. ft. 3 full baths and 6 beds. The bedrooms, some of them, are not very big. The basement are is huge and has 3 more bedrooms and a full bath and wash/dryer hook up. It also has a washer/dryer hook up in the garage also. The daylight basement could be rented out but, we would have to put a full kitchen in all the plugs are there to do so and it wouldn't be that hard if we wanted to.

Any ways I will find out either Monday or Tuesday when I meet up with my Agents Husband, who is a contractor, and he will give us an estimate on what it will cost to redo the whole Master.

Had a great afternoon with DH and my Aunt and Uncle for Father's Day. We went to Ruth Chris. My Aunt and I split the bill for the guys. We had our usually waiter. He is so good to us. He gave us free dessert and glass of Champagne. A really nice guy.

Hope everyone has a nice Father's Day!

Pat, when DH's platelets get too low does he have to get transfusions, or is there some kind of med they can give him to keep his body from destroying his platelets? I should know this since I kind of work in this area, but I guess I don't know as much as I sometimes like to think I do. emoticon

Sandy, a dear friend of mine found a house that she absolutely loved...except for the fact that there were a few problems that she would have to take care of if she bought the house. The woman who owned it wanted to sell it badly enough that she fixed all of the things that my friend was concerned with and she bought the house. I don't suppose this house and it's owner(s) is a similar situation?

Gail, I think it's really great that the professor is going to come look at some of Vic's stuff and see if he can use some of it. It seems to me that would be satisfying in a totally different kind of way than recouping some tiny percentage of the money that Vic spent on things he didn't need. I hope things turn out really well in that regard.

Well for the time being I'm through working 6 day weeks...though a couple more may come up in July. I'm going to work a regular 5 day week and then be off for a week for my birthday, which is a week from this coming Thursday. I don't know what I'm going to do with my week off...except that whatever it is, I won't be doing it at work. emoticon AND I'll be doing it in an apartment with a working cooler that doesn't make terrible noises when I turn it on because a very nice man came this afternoon and greased whatever was squealing so badly. Just when I think that the everything in my life really sucks, someone comes along and makes one thing better for me, and usually that makes everything seem better. I'll have to wait until Monday to tell you whether or not that happens this time, but I can tell you right now that I'm thrilled with the fact that my cooler is working AND won't keep me awake all night tonight. emoticon

I'm not going to be able to see my doctor until a week from Tuesday, but I think I'll probably survive until then. I've been eating cheese and a banana every day and that seems to be helping with my intestinal problems. I would like to have a long term fix, however, so if that means allergy testing or something like that then I'll put up with the pain in the behind I'm sure it will be because the light at the end of that tunnel should be a really good one. I suppose I could try the elimination diet kind of strategy on my own but since I've got this appointment for my yearly already, I might as well get my doctor involved in all of this. There are blood tests that can be done to rule some food allergies in or out, maybe it's time for some of those. We'll see after I've talked to my doctor.

So anyway, tomorrow is my day of rest, though I doubt that Little Kitty will allow me to rest as long as I'd like to in the morning. That's just how she is, wants her mama up and lovin' on her after she has her breakfast...but then nothing's stopping me from going back to sleep after she gets her attention...I hope that you're all having a really great weekend. I've heard about some storms that are going to be affecting a large part of the country. (Maybe are already?) Everyone stay safe and don't get yourselves stuck in a flash flood or a tornado.

There was much rejoicing!

Sandy I hope that something works out-if not this house, then another pops up. We were so blessed that the one we finally settled on had been pretty much redone. I just have mainly put my touches on it. I hated the indoor/outdoor carpet in the Florida room-it seemed to always smell musty so once that was gone the problem was solved. Wish we had put in tile sooner! We also took out the carpet in the living room and put tile in there-with so much sand down here, carpet is just not what I like as it always feels gritty.
Gail if you keep at it you ARE going to finally get thru everything. It is just unbelievable how much you had in your home-sounds like you barely had room to move. Did you piano ever sell?
I have been trying to talk myself into cleaning out our spare bedroom but not having much success. Self keeps saying no, it wants to work on something else! We had quite a storm come thru between 3 and 4 and it scared Abbie a lot. She was so scared at 1st she jumped off the bed then she wanted back up and DH had to hold her a long time to calm her down. She eventually got between us and just shook. That kept us up for quite awhile. The rain kept me in so I didn't walk this morning as I ended up going back to sleep and didn't wake up till 8:30 and I knew it was too hot to walk my 90 min then! So, I vacuumed out the car and washed it-at least it was wet!
We went and got a couple of V-neck t-shirts for DH for father's day this afternoon. He hates anything up around the neck and don't often find these. I had gotten him a carbine light a couple weeks ago - we had 2 but gave them to 2 of the kids when we hit the road so I thought he would enjoy this one. It is in great shape and a collector's item.
Thunder is rumbling again so maybe we are going to get some more rain-we did get 1/2 inch during this morning's storm so little by little we are adding to our deficit.
By the way, it is not DH's eyes that are ok, but his thrombocytopenia-blood disorder that the cancer dr follows very closely. We go to the eye dr at month end to see about taking off the other cataract-scary but his vision is pretty much gone so nothing much to lose now.

Sandy: Good luck with the house. I really hope something works out soon. I can't remember, but are you under some time constraints? When do you have to be out of your current home?

Val: Hopefully, the doctor will find a safe and easy solution to your intestinal problems. Maybe you have a food allergy. A friend of mine had problems and learned she was allergic to wheat. She's been fine since she keeps away from it.

Pat: So glad Bill is A-OK in the eye department.

Nan: How is it going with the grandkids?

Travis came by yesterday morning and left with a carload of stuff to sell: new model cars in unopened boxes, vintage clothing, art prints, books and collectibles were just some of the things he'll put up on the next auction. Today the professor is coming and we'll go through boxes from my father-in-law's apartment that contain books and archival materials.

Wishing you all a wonderful Father's Day weekend.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Val - Pat is right. I am glad that you have an appt. with your Dr. It almost sounds like you have something with on top of what you usually have. The pill you take sounds like Imodium. If that isn't helping then you do need to see the Dr. I hope you start to feel better soon.

Pat - glad Bill had a good report at the eye doctors.

Nan - Have a great time with the grand kids. I know you will.

Well, we looked at a house we have looked at before but, we didn't like the Master and figured we'd have to take out a wall to the other room. They are over priced in the asking price for the area. Plus for what they paid for it and what they put into and what they are asking doesn't really make a lot of sense. So, we went back with our Agent and she agreed with us. She also talked with the other Agent and pulled the info on the home. What we decided to do is have he husband come out and give us an estimate of what it will cost to redo the Master bedroom & bath. Then if the price is good. Then we will do a full inspection and see what happens with that. I know it need a 2 things 1. it does have a fence around the yard 2. the windows are double-pane but, not newer. They aren't back but, they aren't too good. Also the door to the garage is not a fire door. And those are the things I can see. So, we will see what happens on Monday or Tuesday when we meet my Agents husband for the cost of the Master.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend. Taking DH and my Uncle and Aunt to dinner tomorrow for Father's Day.

Pat, you are right. This intestinal bull caca has been going on for too long. I have an irritable bowel so it's a common thing for me, but never this bad for so long in the past. I made an appointment for my yearly exam and I will definitely ask my doctor to help me look into it. I'm afraid that in the end I'm just going to have to stop eating so much lettuce, but I'm not going to do that until we've made sure there's not something else causing my troubles. (Is Immodium the little green pills? If so, I'm taking a generic version of that far more frequently than I like and it's no longer having its full effect on me. You're right...time to see my doctor.)

So I don't know whether I told you guys or not, but last night I got really sick after I ate my early dinner and I was not able to go to the Tim McGraw concert last night. I was sad about that, but I did get to see him last year and I bet he'll come here again. My friend and I are going to go see Alan Jackson in a couple of weeks and I'm going to make darn sure that I don't get sick before that concert. I'm still feeling pretty rotten today so it's a good thing that I had asked for the day off because of the concert I thought I was going to see.

Tomorrow will be the last of the 3 Saturdays I volunteered to work and I'm very thankful for that. I'm really looking forward to having 2 day weekends again. What I'm really, really looking forward to is taking the week after next off for my birthday. Don't have any plans at all, just to sleep past 3:00 in the morning and not go to work. That makes for a good vacation in my book. emoticon

It's been pretty humid here and we finally got some rain last night and today. I think the rain kept the maintenance guy from fixing my cooler...again...I'm pretty sure that he got up on top of the roof to try to figure out why it's making the horrible noise it's making, but I think that he had to go buy a part, and then it started raining. Hopefully it will get fixed tomorrow and thankfully it's not that hot today because of the rain. I hope that you all have a fabulous weekend.

There was much rejoicing!

Nan enjoy the grandkids!

Tammy, my 1st husband was on dialysis for 6 years. He opted to do peritoneal dialysis as we could do that ourselves at home. From time to time he would have to do hemodialysis but because he did not have a port put in his arm, they would do a temporary port in his upper shoulder. He did have a kidney transplant but it only lasted about 5 mo and he developed a problem with the antirejection drug. and the transplant failed. However, the dr should explain all the alternatives to them. We really preferred doing it at home instead of being tied to a machine at a dialysis center for 3-4 hours. Generally people must go 3x a week. One must watch their protein intake since the kidneys have a problem processing it and fluid intake is also limited. A kidney patient is on a very strict diet if they want to do well. The NKF has a wealth of information. We went to classes about 2 years before he had to go on dialysis to educate ourselves since we knew it was coming. If I can give you any more insight, just send me a messaqe I will go into more detail for you. I am sure things have evolved a lot as we are talking from 1983 - 89 when he passed away-not from the kidney failure but from his heart but the kidney problem does put a strain on the heart.
Sandy you will know when a house is right. We looked down here for 6 years before this house "spoke" to both of us! I hope it doesn't take you that long. We weren't in a hurry as we were traveling and living in our rv.
Val do you think it is time to consult your dr about this???? Have you tried imodium? There may be something going on that needs attention.
Yes, our community has a pool and I love it. I had a pool for almost 20 years back in STL and knew when we took it down I never wanted to have to care for another one again! Ours here is heated so we can enjoy it pretty much year round. It is closed when the temperature gets below 65 because it is kept covered with a solar blanket to help keep it heated.
I got the yard mowed yesterday evening-will be glad to have Frank back on the job next week! I chased a little black snake at one point-I hate snakes!!!! It has not even been a week and I really should rake the grass up-the warm weather and the rain has really made the grass grow.
Today DH got the shrubs trimmed BUT he did not put down the sheet like I do so I had a mess to clean it up. I let the trimmings fall on the sheet and dump them in the trash can because we have rock under them so it is a real job to clean it all up and I had a big trash can full! Oh well, he was trying to help out.
Took DH to the oncologist and he got a good report. His platelet count is staying down and dr says he will extend his time to 2 months before another check and if it is still down, he might even get to go off his medicine again.
Hope everyone is having a great weekend.
Pat

I have a friend at work whose husband is getting dialysis 2 or 3 times a week and probably will continue with that for the rest of his life. From what she's told me, the biggest effect that it has on him is to make him feel very tired. I would think that it would screw up a person's immune system, too, but I don't have any kind of facts to back that up. It's just what I think would happen.

I almost wish that I was plugged up, but I have experienced really severe constipation and know that it's not something I want to have. My ex and my dad both have chronic constipation and while they don't have the risk of accidents that I have, I can see that it makes them both miserable at times. Anyway, I'm pretty sure that being plugged up is not my problem. It does happen to me from time to time but as soon as the plug passes I've just got horrible diarrhea again. Lately that's what I spend my early morning dealing with and I'm sick to death of it. emoticon The bananas seem to be helping but I need to get over this and stop eating bananas pretty soon because I'm very likely to develop an allergy to them if I keep on eating them. I'm allergic to latex, which puts me in danger of developing allergies to bananas and avocadoes, too, because all 3 items have very similar antigens. BUT...I'm very glad that the bananas seem to be helping me quite a bit for the time being. emoticon

So anyway, I'm going to have to miss the Tim McGraw concert this evening. I picked up some Mexican food on my way home from work and it made me really sick. I really want to go, but I don't want to spend half of the concert in a nasty port-a-potty barfing or dealing with diarrhea. I wish I knew someone I could give my ticket to but nobody that I can get a hold of easily this afternoon would want it. Oh well. I told my friend that I'm going to work very hard at NOT getting sick before the Alan Jackson concert next month because I really, really want to see him. I've seen Tim McGraw before but I've never seen Alan Jackson.

Well I need to get off the computer because I'm really not feeling at all well. I hope that you all have a fabulous Friday.

There was much rejoicing!

Val, are you sure you are not plugged up? My son, when he was small, kept having accidents and we found out he was actually plugged up pretty bad, and for some reason it caused diarrhea.
Do you drink coffee? That has that effect on me if I drink to much.

Gail, it sounds like your DH had a lot of stuff, but it seems you are getting through it , its great you are giving useful stuff to charities and getting some room back.

Pat do you have a pool where you live? I used to have one in the apt. so when it got really hot in the afternoon I would go swim and it felt so good, it kept me cool for hours.

Sandy good news on the house, it’s a pain when you are in a hurry or there is not much inventory, it drove me crazy when every house we put an offer on it seemed we got outbid by thousands of dollars.

Well I am so glad to be home, last week I went to my old home town where our business is ,I spent a few days with my daughter up by the Tetons and it was so pretty, then I had a hell of a week, my sister was in the hospital and she got out on Wed. and I helped her get settled in at home then I had to give our managers a few days off and it seemed everything that could go wrong did go wrong. I came home Monday evening, I couldn’t get out of there fast enough, I was so stressed out. My brother –in-law called Tuesday morning and said my sister was back in the hospital, her kidneys quit working. They have done dialysis a few times but her kidneys won’t start working on their own so I guess she will be on dialysis from now on.
Have any of you know anyone who has had dialysis, I am just wondering what she can expect.
I reverted back to some nasty old habits of stuffing my emotions with food a few times, I really need to find other ways to deal with stress. I am working on it.
I hope you all have a god evening

Well, we went back today to look at it again. There were about 10 kids out front of one house and 5 in the back of another. I don't think this is the house. It is summer and this time we came at a different time. So, I think we are going to keep looking. We have kids where we are at now but, we don't here them at all. We are going to go back and check out another house out that we have looked at before to check out the lay out and the feel again of the home.

So, it was the closed one we had seen though. I just didn't sleep well late night thinking about the house and I don't know why but, not making an offer on it is not bothering me either. So, that may say it all.

Hope everyone has a great weekend and Happy Fathers Day to all the Fathers!

Just got my computer back from the shop. It was there for over a week. bill tried to fix it but it just kept getting worse & worse. Then I couldn't even get on Sparks. And I still don't understand what happened!

So far behind that I'm just going to start now. Yesterday was in the high 90's & really humid. But we've almost finished the outside. I ordered a truckload of gravel for the pathways. I really thought we'd need 2 loads but Bill said one would do. I'm so glad that we got 1 load as we have the pathways done & there's still almost half a load left! So we're going to make a pathway along the side of the house all the way down to the chicken house. That should be a big help this winter. We hired the kid next door to handle the wheel barrow. Neither of us can do that any more. But everything really looks great. Even got most of Bill's stuff off the back porch. We started giving the kid stuff we didn't want anymore. It helps him & us at the same time. Once we get rid of the rest I don't ever want to get in the same shape again.

Hope everyone is Ok & safe.

Val my DH can sympathize with you-he had a terrible time for 3 weeks. It has finally resolved but.....who knows. He lived on toast and applesauce during this time. I just bet it was stressful having your boss micromanaging you. Hopefully you are correct and she won't last too long.

Gail it sounds like slowly but surely you are making progress. Your home must be starting to feel a little empty???? as much as you have been sending out of there. How sweet of you to give some items to you SIL.

Sandy I have my fingers and toes crossed that you have found the right house and it is all you want in a home.

I got up at 6 am to walk since we have been getting so hot. We hit 93 this afternoon but with the humidity it feels like 99 so it is not nice out there! I did some yard work in the park gardens after my walk and think I got a bit too hot again. I am drinking lots of water but just can't take long periods out in the heat. I read the newspaper and fell asleep about 11:30 and didn't wake up till 12:15. I guess my body knew what it needed.

Trying to do lots of little projects in the mornings but it does limit me with this heat.

Pat

Good Evening:

Some volunteers came this afternoon from the Hospice thrift shop. I sent them packing with a vanload and a carload of stuff: 8 new bookcases still in boxes; about 75 very large coffee table books (mostly on art and travel), about 3 boxloads of retro clothing and collectibles, a credenza, lots of shelving and 3-4 bookcases of wood or metal. Many of the collectibles were vintage but new; they still had the price tags and stickers on them. This was stuff Vic brought back from his parents' apartment in NYC back in the early 70s. The stuff dated from the 1940s to the 1970s; like Vic, his parents never through anything out. On Saturday a professor from the university will come by and he'll go through the books and archival materials. There's so much (over 200 boxes) but I've cleared some space so he will now be able to get to some very easily.

My son-in-law came by this morning to trim my bushes. There were 4 trimmers in boxes in the garage, but only one had been opened! I'll sell the three new ones on the net. I gave Reed, my sil, a vintage Movado watch which had been my father-in-law's, and a brand new chain saw in a box that hadn't even ever been opened. Still have a long way to go but I'm making some progress.

My allergies have been worse in the past few weeks than they have ever been before. Every time I step outside I suffer and have to resort to a Benedryl, Halls cough drops and nose sprays. This is getting old.

Hope you all have very sweet dreams tonight.

Gail

Val: So sorry you're having a hard time of it. Have you tried toast, apple sauce and rice? They should help. You don't have to eat bananas if your system can't tolerate them.

Sandy: Hope this house turns out to be the one.

Pat: Hope the storms have passed and you can now get on with your usual routine.

Nan, Tammy and Dusty: What are you up to this week?

Enjoy each day.

Val - I really hope that things get better for you in all ways. Sending you a big emoticon

Well, I went and looked at another house today and I don't want to jinx anything. But! I think we finally found the right one. Our agent is checking on a few things and DH still has to go look at it as he went golfing today as he got very frustrated the other day when we went to look at one. The homes have not been as big in the Masters as we had hoped as I have said. So, he just didn't want to go this time. The washer/ dryer is upstairs, something I prefer to be downstairs, I can manage with that. We will look into putting into garage maybe. Right now just waiting to see what our agent fines out about the house.

Hope everyone has a get rest of the week.

I'm not supposed to eat bananas because of my latex allergy, but I've been eating one every afternoon this week and it may be helping. Not enough yet, but it is helping. It wouldn't be such a big deal if I didn't have the MS, but I do and it's been years since I've had the muscle control to hold it when I really have to go. That's why I'm late to work so often...

Today was extra super cool...not. I had really bad diarrhea this morning and I was 10 or 15 minutes late for work...and when I walked in, our boss and our supervisor were both there! They were there to find out how our morning run goes and to time us on every single flippin' specimen we got from the neonatal intensive care unit. I know those are important specimens and we need to get them out as quickly as we can, but come on! I work a LOT better when I don't have someone on my back telling me what to do and how to do it over and over and over again. Especially when there are two things that person has told me are the absolute most important thing we do...and I get them both at the same time. emoticon I really dislike this boss and the company that we now work for, but I can't leave this job until my lease runs out next July so I have to deal with this witch until them. With any luck she'll leave soon. (I've been in my position for 13 years and she's the 14th boss I've had so I just don't think that she can possibly stay here forever...)

So anyway, that's the state of my world today. I hope you all had a really great Hump Day. emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

WOW-Val-sounds like they need to install a new evaporator for you. Hope they do get it fixed for you tonite.

We got quite a downpour this afternoon-we were at the pool when it started thundering and when we hear that, it is time to beat feet so we got out and headed home. We were not home 5 min when the skies opened up. News said we got 1.75 inches and that was at 6!

I got some yardwork done after my walk but had to quit by 11:30 as it was too hot out there.

Pat

Val: There is something called the BRAT DIET: bananas, rice applesauce and toast. Those are some things that will hopefully ease your symptoms.

Hope it works.

Stay cool.

G.

Enjoy each day.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I already eat yogurt every day and take probiotics, too, but the cottage cheese is worth a try. The banana I ate yesterday afternoon seemed to have helped this morning, though not as much as I would have liked. So I ate another banana this afternoon and said a little prayer that I won't develop an allergy to bananas. (Because of my allergy to latex I'm much more likely to develop allergies to bananas and avocadoes. Doesn't really make a lot of sense, but it's the way things are.) I also ate a few slices of cheddar cheese with my lunch. Sooner or later something's gotta help...

Well my cooler worked well enough last night, though I still had to use a fan in the bedroom because of the cooler having been off for most of the day. And then this morning at 4:45, just as I was trying to get out the door (I was actually on time for work this morning. emoticon ) the stupid cooler started screaming. It was just making this godawful racket and I had to turn the stupid thing off. When I came home this afternoon the guy was up on my roof again but now he has left and the cooler won't turn on at all. I hope he's coming back today, but it's after 5:00 so I may spend a night without even circulating air. emoticon If this isn't fixed by tomorrow afternoon the apartment complex is going to have to find an empty apartment to put me up in overnight. I pay waaaaay too much for this kind of crap. emoticon

Okay, that's enough complaining for today. I got to train a new employee in my not best department today. That was okay, but we weren't very busy and so the day went on foreeeeeever. Hopefully tomorrow will be a bit more interesting...or at least maybe it will be busy enough to keep me awake. I hope that you all have a great Hump Day.

There was much rejoicing!

Val, have you tried taking any probiotics? Sometimes when things get out of whack it will help get the "insides" back on track. DH's dr always has him take probiotics any time he is on antibiotics and says to take them when he is having tummy problems. Just a suggestion.

Hot down here again-92 for a high today but humidity made it feel about 100. The rain went around us today. Hoping we get some tomorrow.

Val - Have you tried nuts or cottage cheese. But, you also have to be careful with the nuts some times. I'm sure but, you could try yogurt it might help. Glad you got your air working.

Did some more packing yesterday. Got the den all packed up. I figure at this rate I will have the whole house done before we fine one. But, when we do I am ready to go. We drove by one today. We like the neighbor and it is close to everything. The pictures look good on the internet. It is empty so we peeked inside and what we could see looked good. We are going to look at it tomorrow around 11am to see if the bedrooms are large enough. We just want a Master that we can at least get a King size bed & 2 side tables & 6 drawer dresser.

The weather here luckily has only been in the low 70's here. I hope everyone has a great week.

Well lucky me, my cooler died sometime yesterday. emoticon I was so hot last night and did not sleep at all well, but that's not an entirely new thing in my life. Today I called the apartment office and about an hour ago a guy finished working on my cooler up on the roof. (Dang, I'm glad that's not my job...) So now it's working as well as it's ever going to work when it's 100 degrees in the afternoon and our humidity is up around 40%. I know that's not much humidity to most of the rest of the world, but to us it's miserably high...and evaporative coolers don't work at all well when there's any kind of humidity at all. emoticon It worked really well when our humidity was too low to be measured (less than 10 percent, I just love that) but they don't work very well at times like this. Oh well...at least it's no longer just blowing in the hot air from outside. (Hooray!)

I need to ask you guys something...can anyone tell me any foods besides cheese and bananas that will bind you up? I've been eating salads for lunch every day...and lately having just awful intestinal problems when I'm getting ready for work in the morning. I've been late to work almost every day recently because of it so I'm trying to find ways to stop it. Eating a slice or two of cheddar cheese with my salad every day was helping...for a while. Now it's not, though I'm still doing it. I'm not supposed to eat bananas because I'm allergic to latex and that makes me more likely to develop allergies to bananas and avocadoes. But I ate a banana this afternoon anyway because if I can't get this under control I'm going to have to stop eating salads for lunch...and I don't want to. emoticon Anyway, any suggestions you guys can make will be much appreciated.

I'd better get off the computer because I got home late today and I'm tired from sleeping so poorly last night. I'll yak at all of you again tomorrow. emoticon

There was much rejoicing!
