I have tried the newspapers with the mulch and still got the weeds. I do not do the black barrier stuff-too hard to pull the weeds up-the roots break off so defeats the purpose! I use something called Sweet Peat for mulch-it is a little more expensive but they bake the mulch to kill any weed seed in it so feel it is worth it but the weeds still blow in!

Pat, for my weed control this year I tried laying heavy layers of newspaper down and then putting enough mulch down to cover the paper ,I sprayed early in the year but the little and big buggers just came back up. The way I am doing it the papers are supposed to degrade and become mulch themselves, so I will see.
It sounds like you are having fun that is good.
Sriver, sorry about your headache, the weather triggers mine a lot, I hope it gets better. It sounds like you do the process different than we do here. We bid on the house until we win the bid, and we put in a clause that it must pass the inspection, then once we win the bid we get an inspection. And I think it’s a sellers market right now so you may have to do some bidding to get the house you want. It’s a pain but just decide what your top number will be and don’t go over that, and for me I had to keep in mind that $5000 spread over many years is not that much more to a payment, to get the house I wanted. But I know exactly what you mean, I felt the same way. We bid over the asking price on 3 houses and still didn’t get them, the house we got is in the next little town, but the house is literally 1 mile from the border or the town people would rather live in, this town has a bad name, and I am sure in some parts it is bad but not in my neighborhood. But we finally got a house but we did have to settle on some things, like the area. So good luck.
Gail so sorry for the loss of your friend, that is very hard to deal with. My thoughts are with you.

After I walked this morning, Vicky & I went and did some weeding in the new bed and then I went and had the maintenance man mix us up some weed killer and I ended up spraying 4 gallons of the stuff!! We pulled some big weeds but I sprayed the weeds anywhere I could do it without hitting our flowers. Praying it doesn't kill any of them but if it does-too bad. We are hoping this will get down to the roots and kill them off for good-seems we spend way too much time pulling weeds so trying this-I never have done it before.
When I got back home, I finished cleaning the dining room, kitchen and front bathroom. I steamed the tile floors as they were spotted-Abbie's little dribbles from drinking and then we walk in and the dirt gets attached.
Had to get busy and get a shower afterwards as we went with Vicky & Sonny to his radiation appointment and then had a late lunch at Sweet Tomato. He is down to just 3 more sessions after this one today.
When we got back home, they came over and we booked ourselves on a cruise in Feb. A group is going from our community so we decided we would go along. We are also thinking we will go on a bus trip in Oct to the Biltmore Mansion in NC and going to check on that tomorrow. We didn't get to do a thing all winter so praying everyone stays healthy and this all works out.
After that, we played some hand and foot and the guys were brutal-beat the socks off of us!! Guess we will have to ask for a rematch soon.
Nite
Pat

Well, I have been battle a sinus migraine for the last 2 days. I am starting to feel better today. I have taken a break from looking for a house. I think that is one of the reasons I got the migraine is due to the stress. It is so crazy with the housing market - a house will come on the market the Monday day the Realtor will takes offers till Thursday. So, you have to find a inspector in a short amount of time and make a bit and keep your fingers cross. Then it becomes a bidding war. And that I will not get into at all it just is not worth it. It is great for the seller Not for the buyer. So, I am going to take a step back for a while.

I hope everyone had a nice Memorial day. It is had to believe that this year is going so fast. Have a great week!

Val I hope they get your equipment fixed soon. That doesn't sound like it is a good thing to be down and patients waiting on results.
Today was another productive day-I had my list and managed to get thru several things. DH went to his Tuesday coffee and donuts and I headed out to walk about 7. After I got in a little over 3 miles, I moved on to the next thing! DH was home so after I ate a quick bite of breakfast, we went out and between us we managed to get the loquat tree chopped out. That was quite a job. We had 2 loads to haul off on the golf cart. DH hauled off the 1st one and I took the other one. John had come to work on our water line so he stayed with him. Good thing I went as DH had accidentally pitched our pooper scooper and I saw the handle sticking out! A little later and the big trash truck would have come to empty the dumpsters and it would have been lost for good!!!
I cleaned the living room, family room and started on the dining room, but had to leave before 11 to go to the gym with Margaret so will continue working on cleaning tomorrow. We have had the windows open and it is really dusty in here. The heat has returned so doubt we will be opening back up for awhile so trying to make it easier on both of us. I sneeze a lot and think it is from the dust!
I went back to Aldis after the gym and got another beach towel and watermelon as DH has been eating a lot so hopefully this one will be as good as the 1st.
This afternoon I went to the pool for a couple of hours. A lot of relaxing exercise-does that make sense????
Tonight Vicky, Faye & I put out some more yard art-will get more pics of things to show you our latest efforts soon.
Well, getting late so best get finished up here.
Pat

It is called Memorial Day, it once was called Decoration Day...we are to REMEMBER those who fought and sacrificed for our freedom. Decoration Day use to have tiny flags on all the graves of service men and women. Today it has come to be a day to honor all those we have loved and lost.

Gail, hearing about the death of your dear friend makes me feel very sad. It is good to know that she is no longer suffering, but I do know that you will feel this loss deeply for a very long time. Please be gentle with your heart and take whatever time you need to grieve for your loss. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Work today was pretty slow and mellow, which was good because one of our Hematology analyzers has been down all weekend and the other took a dive in one of its two modes right in the middle of our morning run. emoticon Add a few problem patients into the mix and it was a really good thing that so many patients were sent home before the holiday. It won't be so good when half of them come back over the next few days because they really weren't ready to be sent home, but that's just an unfortunate part of life when you work in a hospital. emoticon

Hopefully the rest of the week will go well. On Friday I'm going to a concert with one of my coworkers. Juanes is a popular musician from Colombia, which is where my ex husband is from. My ex introduced me to his music and I couldn't go to see him the last time he was in town so I'm definitely going to see him this time. I'm going with a different coworker than the last concert, but Stephanie and I still have 4 more concerts to go to together before the end of the summer. I love going to concerts and listening to music that's performed live. We never used to get many really good concerts here because there was only one really good venue for a large concert. (That was the best one, and unfortunately it is no longer open.) Then several of the native American tribes in the state built casinos and they all have concert venues. I have serious issues with gambling and casinos, but I'm not such a purist that I'm not going to go see an artist or a group that I really want to see.

So anyway, that's how my week started and how it will end. I hope that you all had a nice holiday and that you took some time to remember why we commemorate Memorial Day. (Is "commemorate" really the right word? "Celebrate" just seemed really inappropriate. emoticon ) I hope the rest of your week is really good.

There was much rejoicing!

Gail how thoughtful of your dil. I hope that being with family will help you thru this time.

Tammy it sound like your gsrden is doing good. Hope you get lots of yummy things from it.

Val how was work today-hopefully not too stressful being a holiday.

I walked at 6:30 and was home before 8 so I could work in the park gardens. I now have all the roses deadheaded. (at least for a week or two!!) I was off to run some errands before 10 and hit 6 stores and was home before noon so felt good that I got it all done.
This evening we went to dinner with our friends - it is their 44th anniversary today. Had a nice meal and way too much food. I brought home enough for lunch for us tomorrow.

Hope all of you have had a wonderful Memorial weekend.
Pat

I know the feeling Vali, my feet are wide, and I hate spending money on shoes that just end up hurting my feet anyway, although you wouldn't know it I must have 30 pairs of shoes, but a lot I have not worn for years, they were cute but painful so I wore them once or twice and now they sit, I am looking for a shoe that feels good to wear, I have a pair of Columbia sandals but they are not pretty or fancy just functional. it would be nice to have something somewhat nice instead of clunky.
I am at a point in my weight loss where I am having to find smaller cloths, and it feels good, It has taken a lot of time to get to this point, but my pants are literally falling off and I have taken some of them in but they just hang on me, its so nice. emoticon
Now if I can get my eating back under control, it has been crazy the last few days.
My garden is going good, I don't have room for to many fruit trees so I am waiting to decide what kind I would most want to plant if any.
I hope you all have a good day whatever you are doing today.

Gail - Glad you made it to you were you need to get to. Sounds like you are having fun.

Sounds like everyone is busy in their gardens. I am not able to do that this year as I am waiting to move into a New house. I think that would be better than starting one and finding something and having to move.

DH and I did look around today and saw a couple of really nice ones but, one really liked already had multiple offers on it and a lot of people walking through it today. It is really crazy.

I am starting to feel a little better. Have a good week everyone.

Today my son and his family celebrated Mother's Day with me. We went to brunch in the morning and when we got back there was a big gift box for me. They gave me two pairs of capri pants and a camisole and jacket. Very, very special. I was so moved.

If you read my last blog, my dear friend Celeste died yesterday morning and I've been in the dumps about that. My dil went to the grocery today and brought me some dried fruit. It is a Jewish custom to give the mourners a basket of sweet stuff (it's called a Shiva basket). The objective is to symbolically counter the bitterness of death with something sweet. I'll be sending Celeste's husband and daughter a large basket of dried fruit and nuts. Anyway, I thought that was so sweet of my dil. I'm getting through this and taking comfort in the fact that Celeste is no longer suffering. Her last days were terrible.

My son has to go to work tomorrow and he is on call all night till 7am Tuesday morning, so we won't be having a traditional Memorial Day grill-out. That's OK. What with the special dinner Saturday night for my granddaughter's 8th grade graduation and the Mother's Day brunch today, I'm all fooded out.

Stay safe and enjoy your day off everyone.

G.

Enjoy each day.

We are enjoying a bit of cooler weather this weekend and I am loving it. I can walk a little later when it isn't so hot and humid which is nice. We have been talking about going to the mall to walk this summer to beat the heat as it is only a couple of miles from where we live.
I got another batch of roses deadheaded and hopefully can finish the last of them tomorrow. If I don't do that, then they do not bloom nearly as well. I am glad that with care they bloom year round down here.
We went to breakfast about 9:30 with Vicky & Sonny and then stopped at the grocery store and I got the first watermelon of the season. Looking forward to that. When we got home, I got out the bucket and hose and washed the car to get the love bugs off because they will stain it if you don't. Since our car is white it is really bad. Before I washed the car, I gave Abbie a bath so she could air dry while I was out doing the car.
This afternoon we went to the pool for almost 2 hours so got in a nice workout and then home to chill and read the Sunday paper. I put on a nice pot roast this afternoon so that was our supper along with the usual potatoes, carrots and onion and a nice ear of fresh corn.
I went out and deadheaded my own roses this evening after watering all my potted plants.
Gail I hope you have a wonderful time with your family.
Val I hope you don't have to work too hard tomorrow and had a nice relaxing day today.
I plan to run out and pick up a few sale items tomorrow and then work around here some more.
Pat

Hi everyone, emoticon
Been busy with a lot of things...Several Dr and Specialist visits. WE have removed all the brambles on the back of the garage and plan to move one of the daylily beds there.
My blueberries made it through the winter just fine...hoping to get the half-wall built to contain them this year..otherwise they will winter in the vegetable garden. Crazy weather here 37F and raining and 72 and sunny...weather changes by the hour.

My gardens are blooming...first the forsythias, now the lilacs, crab apple, apple, cherry and apricot have all bloomed as well as my tulips and daffodils..and now the purple leaf cherry, star of Bethlehem, Lily of the Valley, Star Magnolias, and just one Vinca Minor blooming! My peonies and old fashioned phlox, and star gazer lilies and Asiatics are up about a foot right now.

I am doing a lot of container gardening this year...lots of tomatoes and peppers in pots.
I plan to grow my zucchini, yellow squash, cucumbers, pumpkin, dill and more cilantro in the vegetable garden.

I am adjusting my plans per the weather...so I washed & hung our summer clothes on the line and worked in the garden the past two days. that were sunny.

Saturday was overcast with rain so I went shopping for Memorial Day and since we had a let up in the rain but it is due back tomorrow....we grilled the meat and will re-heat it since the forecast for Memorial Day is for blustery winds up to 40 mph winds and rain.

The BBQ is sitting in the refrigerator along with the eggs, chopped onions & celery for the potato salad. I will bake cupcakes today emoticon , squeeze the lemons for lemonade emoticon , make the cole slaw emoticon for failry easty preparation for Memorial Day and clean the floors, vacuum and bath the dog....NOT in that order! emoticon

Take care and God Bless you all...and for those celebrating Memorial Day...I hope you have a wonderful day. emoticon

I went shopping yesterday with my favorite coworker and we had a really great time. I now have 2 new pairs of Capri pants and 2 new blouses, so 4 new outfits altogether. It's good to have some civilian clothes instead of wearing my work pants everywhere I go, though it was a bit disheartening to see how far I still have to go on this weight loss journey. emoticon Oh well. Slow and steady, all of that...

I got a Kohl's credit card that I'll probably never use again, but it got me about $40 taken off of the total I was spending yesterday. I might go back to Kohl's during the week to pick up a pair of sandals I didn't buy yesterday. They didn't have any kind of heel so I can't possibly fall off of them...so I might actually end up wearing them. Mostly I just wear my work shoes at work and then go barefoot while I'm at home. I hate shoes, mainly because my feet are so darn big that I have a heck of a time finding shoes that actually fit. (I'm just kind of big all over. emoticon )

Anyway, that was my Saturday. Today I watched the Indy 500 on TV...well, sort of. It wasn't very exciting so I fell asleep in the middle of the race and then woke up and watched the last 10 or 20 laps. Now I'm sort of watching the Coca Cola 500 NASCAR race, which is a bit more exciting, but obviously not exciting enough yet to keep me glued to the TV. In a little while I'll make the salad I'll take to work for my lunch tomorrow, maybe when they have their first caution. Guess I'll go pay some attention to the race for a while. I hope you're all having a great holiday weekend and that you have more fun tomorrow than I'm going to have at work...

There was much rejoicing!

Gail, glad you made the flight ad got to your destination. I know what you mean, they make some really ugly cloths in plus sizes, I thought about making my own cloths at one time, I was so sick of what they had to offer, but I only made a few things and then gave it up.
I am staying home this weekend and planting some flowers and cleaning out the garage and going through some stuff. We have some stuff stored at our business in another town, and I am going there is a week so I need to make room for that stuff. I have decided I have to much stuff. I am a mini to mid hoarder. I am going to have a yard sale when I get back and then get rid of what doesn't sale. its a real eye opener moving, you find out just how much junk you have.
I got all my plants planted and then mother nature let loose, wind and blowing sheets of rain, thunder, my poor dog was under my feet just shivering.
Well I hope you all have a good day

Good Morning:

I didn't sleep a wink Thursday night for fear that my alarm clock wouldn't go off Friday morning. I had a 7am flight so I had to get up about 4:30am to shower, get the bedroom in order, get to the airport, check a bag, and go through security. At our airport security is very serious and there can be a fair number of passengers. As it was they emptied out my hand bag and removed lots of stuff to make sure all the metal stuff was all right. The handbag, a gift from my children, has a lot of metal hardware on it. Things worked out fine but I reached the gate with just a little time to spare. The flights themselves were fine and my bag was one of the very first off at baggage claim.

I was so happy to see my family. but am a bit concerned about my son. He says he hasn't lost weight, and perhaps he hasn't, but his shoulders look narrower and he somehow appears fragile. Markus was always very thin. about 6'1" and 153 lbs, but .....

This evening we are going out to celebrate a belated Mother's Day. During the day the girls want me to go to the mall with them and are encouraging me to get some things for myself. We'll see. I cannot seem to find things that don't make me look like a Sherman tank. Why is it that so many things they make for a large woman like me have big, bold patterns? That just makes me look bigger and accentuates my problems.

Wishing you all a happy day,

Gail

Sandy: I'm so happy that the sale of the house is complete and the check is in your hands. I'm confident that soon the right house will come along for you. Take care of yourself and get well soon.

Nan: What are your Memorial Day weekend plans? Next week I'm hoping to meet up with a NC sparker from another team. I've met up with two in the past and it has been great.

Pat: I can imagine how tuckered out you are with all that gardening. You know, it;s great exercise.

Val: Hoping you get some rest and can kick back. Do you have any plans?

Tammy: What will you do this weekend?

Sandy that is wonderful news emoticon Sorry you are ill now-hope it doesn't last long.

I worked in the gardens this morning and got to hot out there. Sure sapped me for the rest of the day. Guess tomorrow I will take off and relax! Think we will go look at a bed I am interested in. Time to get out and do something different.
Have a great weekend.

Great news on getting your house all done and over with, don't nickel and dime the money form the house away, I am slowly doing that with the money I got from the apt. sale, I need to pay off the things I was going to so I don't waste anymore.
I pretty much blew my calorie budget for today, I hate Fridays at work because its treat day, and I still haven't gotten it through my head that its not good for me. At least now I realize how many calories I am eating, but that hasn't stopped me yet.
Oh well
Does everyone have big plans for the weekend? I am just staying home and tinkering, We may take in a movie, but it will be nice to have a few days to catch up on some things.
Have a good evening.

Gail you are likely on your way and hope you have a wonderful time with your son and his family. You are right it will likely be hot and steamy depending on where they live.
We have no big plans this weekend. Will go out to eat with our friends on Mon as it is their anniversary instead of attending the community dinner.
Took Abbie for her annual vet visit today and she got a good report. Glad to have that done for another year.

Gail, thank goodness for that professor. He's probably going to get some really valuable materials from you and you're gonna get rid of a BUNCH of stuff!!! I hear that simplicity calling your name as it gets closer and closer to your neck of the woods. emoticon You've sort of inspired me. When I have the energy on the weekends I try to go through some of my own stuff/junk/whatever and get rid of things that I don't really need. I don't think I'll ever make it to simplicity because I really love some of my stuff, but I think that I can simplify and still keep some of my beloved shiny sparkly things. emoticon

The friend who went with me to the concert last week is going to take me shopping on Saturday. She says that I need some summer clothes, and I think that she is probably right. I have plenty of tee shirts and I have shorts that I would never wear out in public, so I guess that means I need to find some inexpensive Capri pants or something like that. She also suggested that we should get massages one of these days, which is probably not an entirely bad idea. Goodness knows I'm well acquainted with stress these days... emoticon

I hope that you all have plans for a really great holiday weekend. Relax and spend time with friends and family...just be sure not to overindulge in all of the special holiday food that's gonna be around. emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

Good Morning:

For about 3-4 days I was in a really bad depression over my friend, Celeste. I learned last weekend that the cancer spread to her bones and liver. When I spoke with her she hardly had energy to speak. Her daughter called me last night and told me Celeste is in the hospital with an infection. She hasn't eaten for 4 days now and sleeps most of the time. From what I understand, she is not in pain. Thank God.

Tuesday night I went to work out at the gym. That helped me a lot. Since my injury in November I had stayed away from the elliptical, but I went back on it and it was absolutely fine. Yesterday I went again and had no problem. I also did something special for myself yesterday morning as I braced for a lot of work in the afternoon. I was given a gift certificate for a spa and I went and had a 1 hour massage. In the afternoon a professor from the university came by and was here for 3 hours sifting through my father-in-law's stuff. We had batches of books, archival materials, and pamphlets going to various institutions, libraries and organizations. There's well over 150 more such boxes in the basement and he will help me go through them. Yesterday we sorted out about 9 moving boxes full.

Tomorrow I'm leaving for Charlotte to celebrate my youngest granddaughter's 8th grade graduation. I heard it's been hot and rainy there but that's OK. I'll be with family and that will be great. We'll also be having a late Mother's Day celebration so that will be fun.

Wishing you all a relaxing Memorial Day weekend and hoping folks stop for a minute to reflect on the meaning of the holiday and the sacrifices our troops and their families have made over the years.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

My hand is back to normal size and the itching has subsided. Strange but thankful it cleared up. Today we decided on a girl's day out on the spur of the moment after breakfast out with our little group this morning. We had a nice time hitting the thrift stores and found several birdhouses for the park. This evening was the monthly bonfire and again just a small group-about 15 of us.
It has been hot and muggy down here so I have to walk early. The rain is going all around us. The forecast is for a dry and cooler weekend for the holiday. I think we will go out to dinner on Monday with our friends for their anniversary. The park is having a dinner but they prefer to go out so we will do that instead. We will probably have friends over on Saturday..

For the holiday weekend I'm going to rest on Saturday and then maybe do some house cleaning with the "help" of my kitties. Maybe I'll find the time to make some jewelry, we'll see. On Sunday I'm going to try to watch the Indy 500 in the morning and the Coca Cola 600 in the afternoon. I say try to watch the races because I'm finding myself less and less excited by watching races every year. But these are two biggies so maybe I'll be able to get enthusiastic about them. On Monday I have to work, which is okay. On holidays it's almost always slow in the mornings so hopefully I'll be able to get all of my weekly stuff done and still find time for a coffee break, which I don't always get and did not get this morning. (Bitch and moan, bitch and moan. Poor, poor pitiful me. emoticon )

I was really pleased today to come home and not hear about another dadgum tornado destroying another town and killing more people. Now the severe weather is headed off toward Ohio and upstate New York so hopefully my brother and my ex will be okay. (I care a lot more about my brother and his wife, but I don't wish for anything bad to happen to my ex just because he's a butt head.) Unfortunately we're just at the beginning of severe weather season and I'm scared to death to find out what kind of a hurricane season we're going to have this year. emoticon

Well I'd better go try to get a few things done and end my novel here. I hope you're all having a really great week but if not...we're on the downside now. emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

evening everyone, I hope you are all well and not in harms way. I feel so bad for those in the tornado areas.
Gail I am so sorry about your friend.
pat I am terrified of spider bites now, we had hobo spiders at home and now its brown recluse, I worry if there is swelling of something like that you maybe should get it checked if it doesn't get better soon.
I am tired tonight but just wanted to check in. I think I will go do some exercise before I become a part of the furniture.
Have a good evening

Sandy you are so right - we all need to be thankful for all we have and being safe. Until it happens to you, one can't imagine how these people feel. We have close friends who lost everything 2 years ago in one of the storms that hit north of OKC.

Pat, do you have any idea what's been up with your hand? Have you seen a doctor about it? I'm glad that the swelling has gone down so much, but the whole thing kind of worries me anyway... emoticon

Last night I was feeling really nauseous and awful so I was not able to sleep for a long time. I sat and watched the television coverage of that amazingly huge hurricane and I just had to keep praying and praying because it was so unbelievable. When I got home from work today I heard on the news that there may only be about half as many dead as they were saying last night, which feels a tiny little bit better but is still far too many. Makes having to deal with the heat here in the summer not seem as bad because at least we don't get many tornadoes here. More of them in Texas today, hopefully not so huge and not so many people will be affected.

I'd better get off the computer soon and get a few things done before I have to go to bed. I hope that you're all having a really great week.

There was much rejoicing!

Thank you everyone. It is really too bad that some kids don't appreciate their parents. It isn't the way I nor DH was raised. Nor the way DH raised this son. DH did say he had a long stern talk with him before he left and reminded him of all things he has done. Especially spending
$ 4000.00 on this surgery. I think that kind of woke the kid up as his Dad said "what would you have done if you did have me to pay that as your Mother hasn't done one thing for you." Any ways DH really gave him a wake up call. So, we will see what happens.

My heart is so say for those in Oklahoma & Iowa. We have a news person from back that there and that poor thing person was on today in tears as she lost a nephew at one of the schools. My heart just sunk and the tears just started. Lets all keep them in our prayers.

Good Morning:

Yesterday was a day from hell for me. I was so depressed I never even dressed and didn't brush my teeth till night time. I felt like I was going through a replay of all the emotions, fears and anxiety I felt with Victor. Also, truth be known, I got into food big time. I was totally out of control.

I called my friend, Celeste, yesterday evening and she sounded awful. Today they are meeting with the doctor to see if she will try yet another chemo; there is only a 10% chance of success. She is so miserable now from the side effects of the chemo she has had, that I'm wondering if she will go along with it. I told her it's her decision and I would support her choice no matter what that might be. I believe her husband is urging her to do everything and anything to stay alive. But that's not the answer, is it? Quality of life is so important.

G.

Sandy and Pat: I can't relate. My kids were always so appreciative for everything we did for them and now, they keep insisting I spend my money on myself. I'm so used to living so frugally I have plenty now that Vic is not here to buy compulsively, and I have been giving them the proceeds of the his things that I have sold.

Nan: My heart goes out to those who have been devastated by the tornado. God help them.

Enjoy each day.

Sandy sounds like it is time to cut the cord. Sure isn't easy but when kids aren't appreciative, then it is time to let them learn about the real world. I guess we hit that point when we retired about 12-13 yrs ago. Good luck with the househunting-you are probably right-when you quit looking then you will find something.
My hand is better today-still slightly swollen and so itchy but at least I can now bend my fingers. Hoping another day or 2 and things will be back to normal.

Well, I guess our son is doing better as he is giving DH a real hard time. To the point that he is yelling at him. I know that DH and I have our issues but, he really does have a big heart and is a really giver and would do anything for his family or friends if they asked. And that has come back to bite him as he has gotten used by his kids. I think that is why he is the way he is. He is trying to change. He told me he really wanted a drink today but, he is not drinking today as he is really trying to cut down. He says that after all he has done for the kid he is yelling at him and saying a few nasty things. As I told DH some people don't react well on pain and on pain pills. He said he knows but, it is a pattern with him. Which he is right as I have seen this before with him. Anyways, my heart breaks for him but, I think it is time for the cord to be broken and the kid to grow up. He is 27 acting like a 13 yr old.

Sorry for venting. House hunting didn't go well yesterday. All the houses were not in good shape at all. One had such a bad odor in it that both my Agent and I ran out. After we got done we both went home and took showers. I even ended up with a bad head. So, on we go to the next set. I figure that when I am ready to give up that is when the right one will come.

Hope that everyone had a wonderful weekend. Have a great week everyone! Thank you everyone form all the support too!

Sandy praying that the perfect house will soon come along. I know you are anxious to find just the right one.
Gail hope you had a great time today with your family.
I woke up with my left hand swollen to almost twice it's normal size. I think I must have gotten bit by something-possibly a spider. I also have a huge knot on my elbow and not sure if it is related or what is going on. I did try to do my walk and got in over 5,000 steps but just could not go on further. I have taken Benadryl twice today and the swelling has gone down some. It isn't itching as intensely either but now I have a spot on my big toe that is starting to itch but I think it may be an ant bite.
Had planned to plant flowers this evening but I wasn't up to it and we had a thunder storm go thru so that stopped that idea in it's tracks.

Gail - I am very sorry about your friend. I will keep her in my prayers.

I just got back from house hunting with my agent. Both of us we not at all thrilled with any of the homes we looked at. So, will be back at it tomorrow. I am really tired as I woke up at 3 am and couldn't go back to sleep. So, I worked out and did some packing and more cleaning. I am now going to go take a nap.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Good Morning:

Yesterday I spoke with Ariella, Celeste's daughter. Ariella told me Celeste's cancer has spread to the bones and liver. I'm so grief-stricken. I managed to finally get to sleep last night after several hours of thinking of Celeste. I hope and pray that she is at peace and does not fear the inevitable. I cannot imagine anything worse than mental and physical pain at the end. Please keep her in your prayers.

Life goes on. Today the family is going to brunch to celebrate my daughter's birthday. Helena will be 49 tomorrow. I wish I knew how to put up her picture so you could see what she looks like. Suffice it to say she' s a size 6 and still gets carded if she orders a drink. She's also very pretty...that coming from her mom. No, she looks nothing like me. My kids look like their dad's side of the family.

Thinking of you all and sending many hugs,

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Val sounds like a great time and good for you for taking the salad instead of something else. I bet you enjoy the series this summer. We used to have tickets to the Fox Theatre in STL and I loved the country ones.
Gail if you lived closer I would love to come to replace those shrubs for you. I am getting excited as I will make the decision as to who we will use to put in our new pour concrete curbing around my home flower beds. We have the black plastic edging right now and it doesn't do a thing to keep the grass out. This will be about 6 inches wide and higher so should really make a big difference.
Had my friend, Ruthie, come over today and do her laundry since her washer hit the skids this week. They are here till June 13 so told her to just come once a week and do it here till they go home. While her last load was in, we went to the pool for about 45 min. Sure felt great on a hot afternoon.

Val: I'm so proud of you going for the salad. Also very glad you had such a good time at the concert. You sound so happy.

Pat: Because of our harsh winter I lost a couple of shrubs. Want to come up here and plant new ones for me? LOL

Enjoy each day.

Well my work week is finally over emoticon and I've just gotten home from a really great concert that I went to with my friend Stephanie, who is my absolute favorite coworker. The concert was the first of the 4 that are part of the Country Megaticket that's done here each summer and we will be going to all 4 concerts together. Tonight we saw Dierks Bentley and Miranda Lambert. Miranda was actually the top of the ticket, but I liked Dierks better. It was a really great concert, one way or the other, though there was a lot of wind and I had dirt in my teeth a good deal of the time. Luckily it was a good enough concert to be worth having to deal with that. We'll also be seeing Tim McGraw, Alan Jackson, and Luke Bryan with Thompson Square before the end of August. It was so much fun...even with dirt in my teeth.

Before the concert Stephanie took me out to dinner at the Range Cafι, which was nice. I was good and had a fruit and salmon salad, though I was tempted to be not good and have one of their higher fat meals. Only slightly tempted, though. I've been eating a lot of salads recently, in particular taking them for my lunch at work every day for the last 3 weeks or so. About a week or so I got lazy and heated up a frozen lasagna for my dinner...and I thought I was going to die the next day. emoticon After all the wonderful salads I've been eating, that lasagna sat in my stomach so hard that I could hardly eat anything the next day. I'm not doing that again any time soon...Next month when we go to the next concert I'll take Stephanie out for dinner beforehand, and hopefully I'll manage to stick to something health like fish and salad again.

So anyway, that's what's up in my neck of the woods this evening. My cooler was finally turned on a few days ago...just a couple of days after it got really warm here...so I'm going to go sleep in comfort after a very long day that had a very enjoyable ending. I hope that you all have a fantastic weekend.

There was much rejoicing!

Got the plants today for the new flower bed and also plants for myself so I could redo 3 of my pots. I will be glad to get things done so maybe I can spend the summer at the pool-ha ha. At lease I would like to be able to spend a couple hours there most days. I am getting up earlier and earlier to walk while it is cooler.
Hope all of you have a great weekend.

I really, really need to spend some time cleaning my house...I've been in some pretty bad pain for the past few weeks, meds not working (doctor knew they wouldn't, but insurance company wouldn't let her prescribe what she thought would work until we tried these for two weeks...thank goodness, it'll be two weeks on Monday...I'm tired of this) so I haven't done anything other than the basics (well, and go to work)...maybe I can manage to do something this weekend.

Good Morning:

Yesterday I wound up giving 9 boxes of books to the library and a carload of stuff to be sold on the net. There's still so much it's unbelievable, but there is progress with more room in the garage and a bit more room in the basement. The reason things seem to be moving slowly is because Vic was a master at engineering space; everything was very densely packed. When I tackle a floor to ceiling shelf unit, the stuff I keep takes up the whole unit. It's as though nothing was removed.

Early this morning I finished the last of Jonathan Kellerman's OBSESSION. In it he speaks of OCD. Vic had obsessive/compulsive disorder and it was interesting to learn that people deal with their anxiety by being obsessive and compulsive. In Vic's case everything had to be perfect (his obsession) and he had to accumulate things (his compulsion) to deal with his life. Some of it rubbed off on me, but now that he' s gone i'm having no problem getting rid of stuff. I'm surprised myself.

It's raining here today and everything looks lush green.
Hope you all have a good day,

Gail

Sandy: Good to hear your son is on the mend. Good luck house hunting.

Nan - I haven't seen the New Gatsby yet but, I am with you Robert Redford is Gatsby.

Gail - I about 5 homes to look at tomorrow which is good as in the last few days there really hasn't been anything.

I have spoken to DH and he says that our son is doing good. he went all night last night without a pain pill. And the only time he does have pain is when he gets up on his crutches.

Well, I am tired as I have been cleaning all day. As I pack a room I am cleaning and going though everything also. So, I have items for Keep, Give Away and Throw Away. It feels good to do clean things out.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Nan: I almost never go to movies. They don't make them like they used to. I'm interested in being entertained, not being scared out of my wits, peeping in to someone's misdeeds or sitting at the edge of my seat. the last movie I saw was Pirates of the Caribbean II and it was one of the biggest wastes of time I can recall. For me the old movies of the 1930s and 1940s are the best.

Enjoy each day.

Good Morning:

It's another beautiful day here in Badgerland. I've got my work cut out for me today but still plan to read and begin getting my stuff together for my upcoming trip to NC. My youngest granddaughter is graduating from 8th grade at the end of the month and I'll be going to celebrate with the family.

Sending you all hugs,

Gail

Sandy: Hope your son continues to mend. How is the house hunting going?

Pat: Hope you get an appointment for Bill in the not-too-distant future.

Val: How are you doing? Will you be working this weekend?

Enjoy each day.

Sandy glad that your son's surgery went well. Such a worry but it was good that DH could go to be with him. You get to keep on chugging away packing up. Such a job. Hope something crops up soon for you.

Gail it sounds like you continue to slowly make headway. I haven't made much headway in my spare bedroom lately but hopefully I will get back to it. I have been working outside while it is cooler and that is inside and I have a/c so it can be put off till I need to work inside.

DH had a good day today, but I still plan to get him an appointment with the gastro doc. I think this needs to be looked at. Seems to just go from one thing to another with him.
I walked and went to the pool today besides running errands and doing some ironing. We had a contractor this afternoon come to give us a bid on doing poured concrete edging around our house. We have another one coming tomorrow and a 3rd on Tues. After we get all of them, we will make a decision on whether to do this or not.

Hello Everyone:

It was a beautiful day here today. I got to the gym and rode the stationary bike. Also made a trip to the car wash and got a lot of reading in.

Tomorrow morning I'll give my guy stuff to sell on the net. In the afternoon the volunteer from the Friends of the library is coming to take about 8 boxes of books. Woo Hoo! Today was trash/recycling day and I got rid of some empty boxes. there is now much more room in the garage. I can actually get to things.

What are you all planning? Hope everyone is doing well.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Sandy, I hope your son's recovery goes very well and that he's up and running again as soon as possible.

From my own point of view there are few things more unpleasant than a visit to the dentist...even when I've been good. I swear to you, every dentist takes a special class in dental school called "How to Hurt Vali" and they all do very well in that class. I've had so darn much dental work that I've probably sent several dentists' kids to college. emoticon Oh well. Hopefully that's all over and I'll be a good girl and take much better care of my teeth in the future than I did in my past.

I don't really have anything much to say today, just thought I'd pipe in and tell you all just how much I love going to the dentist. I hope you're all having a great week.

There was much rejoicing!

Gail - We are looking in the area we are living in now and areas close by as it close to everything and close to my Aunt and Uncle. Homes are going very quickly here. Right now there is nothing new within the last couple of days which is not good.

Been busy all day took DH to airport. He is terrify of flying. So, it didn't help any that the plane had engine. He said the Pilot started the plane twice and the engines cut out. Third time is a charm and off they went and landed fine. Our son had surgery at 2:30pm today and all went well and is now in a cast for 6 weeks. DH is down there till Monday to be sure he is going to be OK and can get around.

I have the house to myself and it feels good to just relax. Have started packing up the house a little at a time. I am going to get boxes tomorrow.

Hope that everyone is having a great week.

Nan I am with you-don't like the dentist but ...It is a necessary evil. Gail my dentist got a new x-ray machine and the x-ray was not nearly as bad as the old bite wing-not as big to bite down on and like you I gag, but this didn't make me. Also got to see the x-rays immediately which was neat.
DH had another rough day today but feeling better this evening. I walked, got the condo birdhouse and a decorative shovel placed in the gardens and went to the gym - typical morning!! Also managed to get 2 loads of laundry done and some ironing and then went to Cracker Barrel with friends for a late lunch-only place we could think of to get a light meal for DH.

I never mind the dentist. Almost always it just involves a cleaning. What I absolutely detest are bite-wing x-rays....I'm a gagger.
