Tammy, my grandmother had people living around Roby. Talk about stepping into the last centenary. Some still have the wood heat, wood cook stove & the out house, And they're very happy.. I wouldn't mind the wood heat or the wood cook stove but I'd really hate to do with out water (and the bathroom) in the house. Just too cold to have to readjust to that.

Went to the doctor yesterday & he's going to do surgery on Monday. This time he's not cutting but inserting a mesh to fix a hernia. So I don't have to have all that bad prep stuff to drink. If he doesn't find anything I should be able to go home the next day. I really hope this fixes it as it does get very painful. And I'll be OK for spring work.

Having dial up trouble again so hope everyone has a good & safe day!

SRivers1, I hope the all goes well with the trial on Friday. I think that one way or the other, you're going to be really glad to get it all over with. Fingers crossed. (I wish they'd make an emoticon of crossed fingers so that I could just send it to you...)

There was much rejoicing!

Pat - Prayer are with you and Bill. Hope all goes well.

Gail - So sorry to hear about your friend. It is horrible to what is happening to those that have such knowledge.

Getting ready for the Court trail on Friday. Will be glad when this is over as I am not sleeping well. Having dreams that I missed the call in. Any ways just taking it easy the rest of this week.

Hope everyone has a good rest of the Month.

Good Afternoon:

I had some very bad news yesterday. A dear friend just lost his job. He was a chef who studied around the world. What they are doing here is letting go of the higher salaried chefs and taking on less experienced people and paying less. This man is really exceptional, not only as a chef but as a human being. His wife has MS. When he was employed he worked very long hours, cooked, cleaned the house, shopped and took care of his wife. Every morning he bathed and dressed her, changed her bed sheets, did a laundry and got her ready for the adult day care. One of the first things he told me when I met him was, " I'll never leave her." Aside from work and caring for her and the household he has no life. His family lives far away in another country. They have one son and they are putting him through college. If there was anyone who didn't need this problem it was he. I know so many people are out of work now and my heart breaks for them. But here is a special case. I hope they don't lose their house.

Sending lots of good energy your way.

Gail

Pat: Praying all goes well for Bill.

Enjoy each day.

Finally seeing some movement on things!! Took DH for bloodwork yesterday afternoon-can't do the MRA until they know the creatine level is safe (he has decreased kidney function) and we just got a call it is so that is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. We go to see the foot surgeon this afternoon-in fact as soon as I am done here we have to get out of here. Then we should know what his opinion is and as soon as we know that other things are ok we can proceed to get things taken care of.

Pat, I'm glad that those pain pills give Bill a bit of relief, but I really hope that he sees enough improvement to stop needing them soon so that he won't be spaced out all the time. I hate pain pills myself, but sometimes you just have no choice but to take them. I'm very glad that he's got you to look out for him while he's on them. My kitties didn't do a very good job when I was going through my dental surgeries and having to take a lot of them. emoticon

At 9:15 tomorrow morning my work week will be exactly half over and I'll be on the downside of the week. That will be nice. After work tomorrow I'm going to get my hairs cut, which will be good because they're getting too long. I have all these wonderful earrings that are getting at least half lost behind my hair. Can't have that. emoticon (Don't you all wish that you could have a life where the worst thing that happened to you was people not being able to see your earrings? Yeah, I wish that too. emoticon )

I hope you're all having a great week so far.

There was much rejoicing!

Thanks Sandy. Things are a little better. Actually Sunday was even better-I guess the pain meds finally kicked in and Bill slept most of the day so he wasn't hurting. Today he has slept off and on and even sat up in the wheel chair a couple of times. It made eating easier to come to the table. He has an appointment on Wed afternoon with the foot surgeon. I guess then we will find out if he agrees with the urgent care doc. I am still waiting for the imaging folks to call with an appt. I called about noon to check and see if they had gotten the orders and they had but the gal told me she had to talk to the UC doc and then the radiologist and would call me back but haven't heard anything. I will be rattling her cage again tomorrow if I don't get a call by noon.
I stuck around here all day-need to run some errands but can't do that till I know what they plan. I don't trust Bill to set the appt-he is too dopey from the drugs at times!!!! Phone was ringing yesterday and he was answering the home phone and it was his cell!
I walked early morning and got in over 5,000 steps and then home to fix him breakfast and get my shower in case we had to go today to the dr-of course, no such luck! Then I got busy and sprayed weed killer in my rock gardens and mixed up weed-b-gone to spray the weeds in our yard. We are supposedly going to get rain and I wanted it on so it could get watered in. I will fertilize in a week or so after the weeds are in decline-don't want to encourage their growth!!
I gave Abbie a bath this afternoon and got some ironing done-of course I had done 2 more loads of laundry so it is never ending! A friend stopped by tonight and pruned off the 5 branches I could not reach in our crepe myrtle tree. I had planned to stand on our step stool Sat and have DH there to hold it but that didn't happen after his mishap!
Time for bed so I am off to let Abbie out.

Hope that everyone had a nice weekend. Pat, I am so sorry to hear about Bill. I hope that he starts felling better soon. I know with broken ribs that there isn't much you can do except sleep in a recliner. It is much more comfortable. I had a patient once that broke her ribs and had to sleep in her recliner. She said that was the only way she could sleep. Both of you take care and I will keep you both in my prayers.

We looked for houses today and we really didn't see any that we really liked. Either the house was too old and had to be completely redone or it had a one car garage or it only had electric as its heating source or the area it was in wasn't good. So, I will continue to look around. The house isn't sold yet but, I like to see what is out there and if something come up that is a really good deal and the house hasn't sold I will have to weight out everything and decide what to do. In the meantime I am just looking.

Hope everyone has a great week.

Rough night for both of us-DH finally went to sleep after 2 am but was fitful at first. He finally settled down and I think it was 4 am when I felt like it was ok for me to drift off. We are back in the family room-he is sleeping in the recliner (seems like we just left here!) and I slept on the sofa. I woke up about 7 am. It was overcast and rain was predicted so while he slept, I decided to get in some steps. I didn't get much of a walk-too many people stopping to ask about DH and then it started to rain. Luckily I was by close friends and he brought me home in the golf cart or I would have been soaked. I went to Target and got his meds when they opened at 9. Surprise, surprise, there was no cost for the meds with his new insurance!!!
I have not accomplished a lot today-just too tired and haven't wanted to get too far from DH as he can't put any weight on his foot. I have made tuna salad, got the dishes done, did a little bill paying, read the newspaper and took a nice 2 hour nap!!
I am hoping we both sleep better tonight-his pain is a lot less today so that should help. Then praying tomorrow we get in to see the surgeon and the MRA gets set up to find out if it truly is an aneurysm. Then we will have decisions to make! One day at a time, it is all the Lord grants us so that is what we have to deal with. If he has surgery, it is going to be a lengthy recovery from what I have read about this type of injury. Even if no surgery, he is going to have to stay off the foot for it to heal.
Praying all of you are doing good.

Please let Bill know he is in my thoughts and prayers. It pains me greatly when people suffer physically or emotionally. I can't begin to imagine what he and you are going through. Try to get some rest, dear one.

Penny so glad you were not a "statistic". We all take our lives in our hands every time we get on the road.
Please say some prayers for my DH-today has been really stressful and he is in a lot of pain-see my blog-so far it is nearly 2 am and I haven't been able to sleep-too worried. I am going to try in a few minutes-I will need my strength to help him inthe coming days.

I have yet to meet any of my Sparkfriends in "real" life, but on one team I am on, some of them have met and the team is also having a rally in SD this fall. I may be meeting some of my Springfield, MO team friends if I do a 5K in late March that I am seriously thinking about doing.

Good Morning:

It snowed the night before last and throughout the day yesterday. At about 7:30 pm, after it had stopped the neighbor boy came by with the snow blower and shovel and cleared my walk, driveway and porch. Afterward he put salt on the driveway and walk. You have no idea how relieved I am each time he takes care of everything. i simply cannot. He's such a nice teenager and gives some of what he earns to his folks for the family. His mom and dad both work for a church and don't get paid much. With five children it's hard for them.

I had a nice long visit with one of my spark friends last night. I've made some wonderful friends all over the US and abroad and hope some day to meet some of them face to face. Have you ever met any of your spark friends? So far I've met two, both from Illinois.

Going to try to get to the gym today and also need to stop to get more salt to melt the ice.

Take care and stay warm.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

COPPERPENNY, I know the Licking/Houston area well! My brother lives just outside Houston; I taught at Plato for 15 years, and my paternal grandparents lived at Roby for years. I have been to more than one baseball game at Licking.

We had some melting today. I was at one parking lot that was a solid sheet of ice, though.

Taxes....what a mess. I went through everything today and noticed I did not get a 1099 for Vic's pension. Good Lord, as if I didn't have better things to do. Employee Trust Funds supposedly sent me one today.

Penny: Thank God you are all right. That was a close call with the Bronco.

Val: Have a restful weekend. You sure could use it. I"m going for my annual eye exam on Monday.

Stay safe and warm everyone.

Penny, thank goodness the Bronco swerved back in time to avoid killing you and Bill. I whine when I have to deal with 3 inches of snow that mostly melts off by the afternoon, but I always know that a lot of people are getting hit a lot harder than we are. I also know that there are people in this country who are actually in danger because of the cold right now. I'm really thankful that we've got it good enough here for me to be able to think that 3 inches of snow is awful and that everyone here is going to be okay through all of this. I hope that you will all be careful and stay safe and warm.

I'm glad that my work week is over. I got my eyes dilated after work and then went to the grocery, and now I'm home and not planning on doing much of anything for the rest of the day. I'm hopoing that Little Kitty didn't eat again today whatever she ate yesterday that gave her such terrible gas. emoticon She was sitting next to my keyboard last night...and the little thing just started farting up a storm! It was somewhat amusing, but also pretty stinky and I'm really hoping that she's not sick. She seems okay today but I haven't been home for very long so almost anything could still happen...

Anyway, that's the story of life in my neck of the woods today. I hope that everyone has a fabulous weekend. emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

I live in Union, SW of St. Louis. I started out in the Licking/Houston area. Anyway, we ended up with approx 5 inches os snow with a covering of sleet. We stayed in & didn't even go to the end of the lane for the mail. They have interrstate 44 cleared but not the side roads so we're not going anywhere today either. Bill said he'd walk down to the mail box I can understand if the mail didn't make it. There's so many hills, curves & creeks that the mailman has to drive over

Tuesday we went & got our taxes done. On the way back, after we'd turned & gotten on the service road to get to our house we met a Bronco. he swereved into our path. Bill started for the ditch but I just knew that there wasn't enough time, as fast as he was going, for him to misss us. I just knew we were going to be killed. Then, at the last moment, he swerved back into his side & almost flipped. He kept going but was going back & forth over both lanes. We were lucky that there wan't anyone else on the road at the time. I don't know what I did but my stomach/side area felt like it was torn. So now I have to see the doctor on Wednesday. But no one was hurt so I guess I should just count our blessings. i just know if my hair wasn't already white it would be now!

Hope everyone has a good & safe day! We're on dial-up & AOL & I keep getting a WHOOPS! & kicked off. I don't know if it's the weather or what.

Here in my corner of the midwest [SW Missouri] it wasn't too terribly bad; definitely nothing like our ice storm of 5? 6? years ago. There were very few power outages and no fatality accidents - at least as of 6 p.m. last night via the local news. Some of our schools are back in session today, but the rural districts in the area are mostly closed.

I hope all of you are inside, safe and warm. Doesn't look good for a lot of you. It is hard to imagine when I am down here and we hit 81 today-the snow, sleet, and ice just doesn't seem possible but I know it is.
All of you be careful driving.

Gail - You did a great thing in taking pledges. I think that is a wonderful thing. We are being hit right now with a storm. DH just got back from Skiing and it was a white out condition and came home early. We are to get heavy rain tonight. Stay safe and Warm.

Oh, Gail, just be happy you were not in a towel. When I lived in California we had an Earthquake and I had just gotten out of the shower when the it hit and it was a pretty good one. There were a few of us that went out of out places and out into the street not thinking. Well, somehow my door got suck and I couldn't get back in. One of my neighbors had to jimmy my front window and go through and move the chair that had fallen in front of the door. Any ways that was embarrassing. Always keep a Bath robe close by now.

We are having a cold spell here in the Northwest and are getting some heavy winds and some rain tonight. I know there is a big storm on its way to the Midwest. I hope that all of you stay safe and keep warm. Hugs to all of you.

After my alarm clock went off at 3:01 this morning I took a few minutes to sit up in bed and get my morning moving. I looked at the window that's right near the head of my bed and it looked awfully white outside. Usually at 3:05 in the morning I see a lot of black between the vertical blinds but this morning I saw white. Not a good sign. After I took my morning pills I peeked outside...and my world was covered in snow. Now some of you may be quite used to this, but it doesn't happen that often in this part of New Mexico and I was just not prepared for it. Well, I guess I sort of was but I was certainly not expecting it this morning. But when I left my apartment I found that it was just snow, 3 inches of it on my car but no ice. (Thank goodness.) And luckily there aren't many people on the road at 4:45 in the morning because there are only about 5 people in this state who truly know how to drive in ice and snow...and I don't have a high degree of confidence that the other 4 will be on the road when I am. emoticon

At work I found out that I'm getting a 0.8% raise. emoticon Well I guess I can't complain too much, at least it's an extra 24 or 26 cents per hour and I guess that it's a lot better than a pink slip. At least I have a job that pays my bills and leaves me some money to buy a few things and pay for rent and groceries. One way or the other, I'm glad that tomorrow is Friday and that I won't have to work again until Monday. I love my job but I also love my weekends, when I don't have to get up at the crack of 3 hours before dawn. I don't have any big plans for the weekend, I'm mostly just planning to get some extra sleep and do some cleaing around the apartment. And play with my kitties, that's the most important part of my weekends after the sleep part. I'll probably watch the Daytona 500 on Sunday but that's the biggest plan I probably have. emoticon

I hope you all have a great Friday and a wonderful weekend. emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

Spent 5 hours at the radio station taking pledges. Actually, it went quite well. This is a community radio station supported almost entirely by those who listen. There are no commercials so the station programming is not at the whim of an advertiser. Actually, it's a very close community and Vic and I have supported it almost from the get-go. Local restaurants keep volunteers fed with breakfast, lunch and dinner. I had a good breakfast before I left home and only indulged in a clemintine in the morning. Just before noon a restaurant delivered the fixings for chicken tacos and I had some of that. Later they delivered veggie sandwiches and I took one home for dinner. I was so proud of myself. The sandwiches were packaged with potato chips on the side. I LOVE potato chips and so I took one. But it didn't taste good so I spit it out and dumped the rest. I have never done anything like that before and was giving myself a pat on the back. Potato chips just don't beckon me as they used to.

We are expecting a big winter storm that has been hitting the midwest and it's due to arrive during the night. Boy, am I glad I don't have any appointments tomorrow!

Hope you are all doing well and have smiles on your faces.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Good Morning:

Going to a PT appointment this morning and will exercise at the gym. Will also bring a carload of stuff to the Hospice Thrift Store.

I had a good day yesterday foodwise. Whew! One day at a time. Will probably stop at the supermarket for veggies and fruit. If they are not around you cannot eat them.

Will try to bbl.

Gail

Gail I bet that your neighbor got a shock when you knocked at their door. I am just glad you had a neighbor to go to and was able to get back into your house.
DH crawled in our window once when we were locked out!! Funny thing, we had left the golf cart down by the lake and forgot and thought someone had stolen it. Friends still laugh over that one so don't feel like the lone ranger!!
We went on a boat outing today. The boat club took out 7 pontoon boats loaded with folks to go to lunch across 2 lakes and up a creek and thru a lock. It took us from 10:30 to almost 5 for our trip but a nice day was had by all.

Time for a laugh:

This morning the eye doctor's office called to reschedule my appointment. I mentioned that I live close by and am very flexible, so if there was a cancellation I would probably be able to take it. At 8:45 am she called back and said there was a 9am opening. I told her I'd be there if the car started and she held on while I went to start the car. I was in my flannel night gown, my orange, white and pink soft socks, and my hair was still uncombed. Anyway, the car started promptly. Yeah! But when I went to reenter the house I realized I locked myself out. Mind you it was 8 F ! I went to my next door neighbor's and was soooo embarrassed to be seen as I was, but there was no way around it. I called my sil and he came to the rescue. I HAVE NEVER DONE THAT BEFORE...NEVER.

I did two loads of laundry and am still putting things away. I want to try to get to the taxes and the stuff for hospice yet today, so I'd best be going for now.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Welcome back Gail. I hope you did get to thaw out and relax some - sorry your sister is one who wants to run everyone's life. Think we all either have a relative like that or know someone like that!!
I went back for a 2nd session of yoga today and feel a bit sore tonight. I am not as limber as those folks showing the moves-ha ha. Maybe in a year or two-guess I need to practice more.
After yoga I walked for 90 min so managed to get over my 10,000 steps today.
Hope everyone who had today off enjoyed the holiday.

Good Evening:

Just got back from about a week's R&R. I saw my sister and I'm glad I did but I can only take so much of her. She is 11 years older than I and really wants to orchestrate my life. You know anyone like that? Haven't had time to read all the postings but hope you all had a nice Valentines Day.

Stay well.

Val - You diffidently have job security at your job. Boy! are you busy there! Hope you get some nice rest this weekend.

So, I won again. We are now going to play golf on the Wii machine as he will win.

Val sounds like you have been hard at it. Hope you do get to relax and just chill out.

I went down to the clubhouse this morning for yoga with Vicky and our instructor didn't show up! At least we did get in a nice walk. We decided to work on putting out the spring flowers (artificial) this afternoon. I used to only use all real ones, but it is a pain to have to water all the pots on a daily basis in the summer so now I use FAKE! We worked on that for almost 3 hours and put on our meager Easter decorations. I hope I can continue to find more to use.

Have a great weekend.

Oh my, what a week at work! Our hospital is completely packed, not a single bed unoccupied and apparently the same situation exists at the hospital downtown because we have patients who have been admitted to the med-surge ward upstairs but are really in the overflow of the emergency room right now. And people were making a lot of babies last May because all of our 3 nurseries are completely packed, too. I'm all for job security...but I'd really like to be able to take a lunch break more than once a week!!

Okay, enough complaining. The one nice thing about being super busy at work is that the work week just flies by. I had to train a student AND a new employee all week long, but even that wasn't too terribly annoying because the week really did fly by. I've definitely earned my weekend this week. Not sure what I'm going to do with it, but I'm going to do it at home and on my own time schedule, doggone it. I'll sleep in until at least 5:00 both mornings (I'd prefer 7:00, but I can't always stay asleep that late these days) and then I'll just play things by ear. Might move my bed and rearrange my bedroom, might just rest and recover from my week. I'll just see what the kitties think we should do tomorrow...

I hope the rest of you had a good week and that you all have a really great weekend. emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! emoticon

DH , I and My Aunt and Uncle all went out for an early dinner and had a wonderful time. It was really great to see them. DH and I are now at home and getting ready to play a board game. He thinks he is going beat me at Monopoly. It seems that I have the touch lately - well, since my hand surgery I have been throwing a lot of doubles. emoticon I have beat him 2 out 2 times now. You know, they say the third time is the charm. I'll let you know.

Have a great night everyone.

Another full day but got quite a bit accomplished-walked, breakfast with our Wednesday group, took car in for service, did some work in the park gardens, did a little cleaning in the house and got ready for company. They arrived about 2 and left after 5 so it has been a really full day!

Hubby and I don't do much for Valentines' Day.
But, then again, this fall we will be married 51 yrs.!
He has a dr. appt. early in the a.m.. Not sure if
I will go with him into the city. If I do, I am sure
we will eat out.
This week-end there will be a b.d. luncheon for
our two older kids. One will be 51 on Monday
and the other will be 49 this Friday. It will be at
the older and her companion. Then, there is
a sit-down dinner at our Church.
Today, I am back at de-cluttering. After all these
years I have some serious de-cluttering to do.
I am ready, now its hubby who isn't! When the
weather gets nicer, it will be easier to ease things
out.
Everyone have a HAPPY VALENTINES' DAY!

"All things work together for the good of those who love the Lord, and are called according to His purpose."

Penny I can never understand why people would want to pay those storage fees-but I guess we understand somewhat after what Gail went thru. One just never knows what another is thinking.

Sandy glad your family is safe. Hope your hubby gets to enjoy his skiing.

It hit 84 here today-that is too warm for so early in the year-it is going to confuse our plants. This weekend it is supposed to only be a high in the 60's so hope it doesn't get too cold at night. So far the plants have done fine this winter. In a few weeks I will start all my spring pruning.

Have a wonderful Wednesday.

Well been sitting here this afternoon watching TV about the ex LAPD officer in Big Bear. My BIL & SIL went up skiing today at Big Bear. They are now on lock down on the Mtn. My BIL got a hotel for the night. But, according to the News now the cabin to where the officer was at is on fire and they are thinking that he is dead inside. Been worried all day about my BIL but, was glad they are safe now and at a hotel.

On a happier note. Things are nice here. DH is going skiing tomorrow since we received more snow in our Mtns.

emoticon What are your Plans for Valentine's Day? emoticon

DH is taking me out for an early dinner and then coming home to play a game.

Have a very nice Valentine's Day! emoticon

Hope the east can clean up the snow & get everyones power back on. All that snow would drive me crazy.

Gail, sounds like you've got it made. The way they're building up & taking in more land the city will be out next to us in the next 20 years or so. They've taken in quite a bit of farms during the last year or so. Now they're having to adjust the town's laws to the farm setting. Makes you wonder where the money is coming from to do all the building. The werid part is that storage units are the biggest building going on right now. Just think of having to pay for storage of thigs that you've not used in a long time & forgotten about .

We've got high winds today . It's sunny & 43. Spring flowers are coming up.

Got to go hold boards so Bill can put together my book shelves.

Hope everyone has a good & safe day!

Sandy we had a pretty good day and got rid of quite a bit of stuff. I was amazed at some things that sold and things I thought would go quickly are still with us!! It was a great day to hold a sale-it started out cool but warmed up quite nicely and we got up to 77.
DH is doing good. He is almost back to "normal". I got him to walk with me this evening-he needs to get back into that to build himself back up. How fast it goes and how long it takes to build back up!
I walked at 6 am so that I could still get a walk in today-I knew I wouldn't be able to with all the people coming in for the sales. I finished my 10,000 steps this evening after we got it all cleaned up.

Val - Glad that you are feeling better. You were missed. Sorry to hear about your friend but, glad that she is doing better and that you and your friends are going to have lunch with her today. That sounds like a lot of fun.

Janet - Welcome! Glad to have you on the Team. Sorry that you have had trouble with your provides hopefully this new one will be better.

Pat - Hope all goes good with your yard sell and that you make some good money. How is your DH doing since surgery?

Gail - You all are getting hit with another storm, aren't you? I'm glad that you have good neighbors close by. Stay warm.

For all of you on the East Coast my prayers and good wishes are with you. Be safe and stay warm.

I final got the some pictures up from our trip to Whistler. I had some trouble with up loading the Photos. It kept saying that the pictures where to large to up load. So, I could only get a few for right now. I'll try again later.

Well, I'm still working on taxes and cleaning up and putting things away. Hopefully I'll be done by next week. The best thing is I got all the documents sent off to the court house for the trail on Thursday. We sent them to DH's sisters house and she is going to hand delivery them to the court house and get the persons name that she gives them to. So, that was a big relief for me.

Hope that everyone is having a wonderful weekend.

Hi All---
I joined, responded to the entroducing article,
and, have been 'tarty' since! Sorry about that!
I have been very frustrated! My former server
discontinued service in our area. At times they
were very 'iffy', but, when I contacted them, they
always had the problem resolved before I dis-
sconted with them.
Now, this new service has much to be desired!
I have only been connected a little over a week,
already they have been out here! Everyday they
have gone down at least once, and I swear
they have lost some calls for me! If they don't
soon get it straighten out, I'll 'kick' them to the
curb!
I got this to enjoy; but, it hasn't been any enjoy-
ment so far.
I have been 'starting' de-cluttering for a while!
What makes it bad, as hard as I try, I have a
hard time 'letting go' of some items! What to
do!
I am co-leader of "Yorkie Lovers". I have had
Yorkies 30+ years!
I am looking forward to getting to know you all!
Hugs,
Janet

Hi everyone. For some reason I never got an email notification that this new discussion had been started, which is why I have not been participating this month so far. I don't know what's going on with that, but I did have a problem with not getting notifications of replies in another group that I ended up losing touch with for a while. Whatever. At least I've found you all again. emoticon

I was skimming through this thread to see what's going on and I noticed Gail's post about presciption Zyrtec being cheaper for her than the generic. Gail, have you tried looking for the generic version at Walgreens's? I get bottles of 300 WalZyr tablets for about $5 and have sometimes found them on sale where I can get 2 bottles that size for the price of 1. It might be worth checking into.

So far this month has been a mixed bag for me. Parts of it have been okay, but I had a terrible stomach/intestinal virus last weekend and for the last couple of nights I've only gotten about 4 hours of sleep each night. I'm so glad that tomorrow is the end of my doggone work week. At least I can sleep until a reasonable hour on Saturday. On Saturday a few work friends and I are going to get together for luch with our coworker who's been undergoing treatments for cancer. I think I may have told you guys about her. She's 34 years old and she has colorectal cancer (an "old people's cancer") that has metastacized. She has been on medical leave for about 4 months but apparently is doing okay, all things considered. It will be good to see her and just hang out for a while.

So that's the story of my life right now. I hope things are going really well for the rest of you. I'll do my best not to disappear for so long again.

There was much rejoicing!

It is Heart Month. So, What is everyone doing to keep their Heart in good Shape? emoticon

I got my cardio going this month - doing at least 25 to 30 mins. a day. How about you?

Up loading pictures of the trip tomorrow from Whistler on my page. I have a new camera so it took me a little while to figure out how to download to my computer. emoticon

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Hi! It has been a long time since I have popped in, but I just "found" this thread again - somehow I had lost it.

I am excited to be able to "donate" stuff to a younger family member for a rummage sale to raise funds to enable the family to stay in the area when their baby has heart surgery. It will help them with $$$, and will help me to get it out of my house!

I also started some lettuce seed in a deli container, and am happy to say it has now sprouted.

Good morning:

I have an ortho appointment this morning and I hope I get there and back before the snow starts. I believe we're going to have somewhere in the neighborhood of 4-6 inches.

I haven't been getting rid of stuff for almost two weeks now and I don't know if I'll be able to get back to it before I leave for Florida. Just hope there are no delays before I leave.

What are you all up to today? I'm going to try to get myself to pack and will read a book.

Sending hugs to all,

Gail

Gail it sounds like you have done the homework and math and figured out it is cheaper to stay put and since you are in a great location it is a win-win for you. It doesn't always work that way for everyone but glad it is for you.
Sandy I have been working on my tax stuff but still waiting on some paperwork to come in the mail and then I can get everything sent to our accountant. Will be glad to get that taken care of!!
Had a nice visit with some friends this afternoon. Hard to believe we are moving right on into Feb and our snowbird friends will be heading north by the end of Mar or early Apr so trying to see as many as we can in the coming weeks. We lost over a month when we were sick.

Gail - I think it is a very smart idea that you stay. With the economy the way it is it is better to stay put. Besides you'd end up paying more as you said and that in itself is the best reason not to move. emoticon

Well, I am working on taxes today and getting everything ready for the court day. Also the computer has been really slow today so it has been hard to do some of my work.

Hope that everyone is having a good week.

Penny:

This house is way too big for me but it's in great shape and I cannot live cheaper anyplace else. The taxes and utilities are less than I'd pay for a nice 1-2 bedroom apartment in a good area. Underground parking would be another $80/month or more. So, I'm staying put. I've great neighbors, a wonderful area, and I'm close to shopping, entertainment, restaurants and a world class hospital. Where on earth could I do better?

The elliptical is great work out. DH brought one that was a floor model for a pretty good price. We have it out in the garage, the house we rent has a 3 car garage the 3 part was made into a work out room. So, that is where we work out. Since I have a hip problem I can't go very long but, I do go on it for at least 5 mins. 2x a day. It is a great work out.

Son has gone and now it is cleaning up and doing laundry from the trip. The time we got to spend with our son was great. I think he is even thinking about moving home in the next 2 years. It is getting expensive and jobs are slim down there. But, all his friends are there so we will see. Mom keeps hoping.

hope that everyone is having a great week.

I agree with Gail-I love the elliptical and like her experience, I had to start slow and build up. It gives me a great workout. For some reason, I have never liked the treadmill-I much prefer walking outside and luckily I can pretty much year round.
I went out with a friend today to show here where the consignment shops are around the area for her to look for furniture for their home. They are sleeping on an air mattress right now! They did order a frame for a bed (they already have a mattress) so maybe in a couple of days they can at least sleep in comfort!

Yesterday was in the 60's so Bill cut out the wood for the litchen shelves & the living room bookcase. Today it's in the high 50's so he's putting them togerther. I have a collection of old glass coffe jars that i use to store oats, sugar, flour, etc in. It'll go where the freezer sat so that we can see what we have. The living room bookcase will go next to our old roll down desk. That's where we study the bible (no tv or radio in the living room) Our pastors wife lent me ( I went to Ebay & got copies of both) books dealing with the day to day life in the bible times. And here I thought I'd had it rough. While watching TV in the evening I've been making book covers out of plastic canvas with fabric linings. I made an orange verigated one for my bible & a lady loved it so much that I made her a red (she picked out the color) one for hers & a pink one for a friend. I used white yard along with the main color to make a design on the front. The red one looked like a valentine but she was really happy with it. I love to read but sometimes I just get tired of the same old thing.

Gail, I was wondering -- when you get everything out of your house that you want to are you gong to remain or go to something smaller? Whatever youd o I hope you'll be happy. You've gone thru so much. I'm STILL tying to get into the habit of the treadmill. I've been told that I need to get used to not holding on but I get dizzy & I'm really afraid of falling.

Anyway i hope you all have a good & safe day!

STLOUISWOMAN :

Several years ago I belonged to Bally's and only used the gym for the treadmill and pool. Every time I went in I saw these young things on the elliptical and so one day decided I'd give it a try. I kid you not; 2 minutes was all I could take. The next time I went in I made it to 4 minutes and thought I would die. The next time it was 9 minutes and following that 20 minutes. Shortly thereafter I went to 40 minutes. Then the gym left town and I went to another gym. I did the elliptical ...this time a cross trainer where there are handles that make your arms to back and forth so as to increase your cardio... Even when I took a year break from the gym when I returned doing the elliptical cross trainer was a lark. My muscles remembered everything. I'm 71 and still do it. There is no pain nor do I ever get out of breath. BTW it's the best workout burning more calories than anything else. Also, my legs and thighs are tight and there is nothing to pinch; no flab. Wish I could say that about my arms and middle section. LOL

The moral of the story is to start slowly and only move up when your body can take it. You will succeed...promise.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Started an exercise class tonight at the Y. They said it was an easy one & really I suppose it is for someone in fairly decent shape. At one point I thought I couldn't go any further & looked at the clock.....ten minutes had passed. The class was 45 minutes long & I did make it with a few lapses. One lady told me after 30 minutes "Now we get to the hard part." It was using 2 pound weights. Since I do that at home with 3 pound weights, it was the easiest part for me. The first 30 minutes concentrated on the lower back & legs.....where I have my muscle problems. After the class two of the ladies said "See you Wednesday?" I told them I'd be there if I could still walk. Couldn't believe tha man leading the class is in his 70s.

Good evening all-hope you are thawing out Gail-so much snow for you. Hard for me to even imagine it.
I tried something new today-yoga. I had gone to classes about 10 years ago so I was familiar but it was still a challenge. I can see I definitely need to to help me get more flexible. I think I am going to enjoy going-maybe we can get it to twice a week!!! I will have to practice some at home. Still striving to get my 10,000 steps a day. I missed 70,000 for last week by under 500 last week. Will hopefully make that up this week.
I go to my dr in 5 weeks so hoping to have good test results when I go. I want her to see that I am really serious about losing the weight and getting healthy!

Good Morning:

It snowed some again over night and there was enough to shovel. The teenager who shovels for me stopped early this morning before school so I'm good to go. I've been shelling out $20 a few times a week to have my walk and driveway done, but I'm not complaining. The professionals charge $30-$35/ snow removal and those are the cheap ones. Most charge by the inches of snow and the square footage they have to clear.

One of the guys from the consignment is coming by today and I'm hoping he'll take the clocks I can find. As I said, Vic collected everything. I'll keep a couple but the rest have to go. Problem is, they are all over the place.

Hoping to get out today to exercise and get my hair done. I desperately need a cut...especially before I leave for my trip. I also want to see if I can get some fluffy socks. My granddaughter got me some for my birthday and I just love them. They are delightfully soft, keep my feet warm and have non-skid plastic dots on the sole. I really need to get to the mall and that's something I hate....hate shopping.

Wishing you a happy, easy day.

Stay warm.

Sending many hugs,

Gail

Good Afternoon:

Did you know that there are over the counter medications that are also available with a prescription? I just found out this morning that I'd only pay $4/month for the generic Zyrtec with an Rx, while the cost is over the counter is more than 30/month. I emailed the allergy clinic and asked them to please call in a script for me.

Got to the gym, found some sports bras (the only ones I can wear with my arthritis) and a summer top on clearance for $4.99. I'll take the top with me when I visit my sister next week. I also treated a friend, a recent widow, to brunch. It was good for both of us.

Going to start a new book.

Enjoy the day.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

I hope that Groundhog was right and it will be an early spring-I think we are all tired of the cold weather. We warmed up to 71 today so that made it feel a lot better. I know we are lucky to be so much warmer than the rest of the country.

SRIVERS1, I was just looking at some old silver spoons today that aren't in the spoon rack because they are badly tarnished. I was thinking that I needed to find the recipe for the tarnish remove. Then I clicked on your link of hints & there it was. Thanks so much.

Nan - I think your idea is great!

We made it back and the boys had a wonderful time. We are taking our son to the airport tonight. emoticon Wishing he would stay but, had a great time. I will post the pictures in a couple of days from the trip.

I have posted the new Challenge for February. What do you all think about continuing January Challenge all year? We could just call it "Kindness to Others". Or does someone have another name.

Hope that everyone is having a great weekend. What are you all doing for Super Bowl?

Good Morning:

It's cleaning day and though I look around and know that I got rid of a boatload of stuff this past week, it still looks like I hardly made a dent. Truly, this place is unbelievable!

I'm getting psyched up about leaving for a warmer climate next week. Winter is really getting to me on gloomy days. Happily, yesterday was very sunny, despite the sub zero wind chills. I believe it will be even colder today and we're expecting yet more snow.

Will try to get back to you all later.

Sending hug,

Gail

Enjoy each day.

I am with you Gail-I love homemade soup on a cold winter day. We tend to eat early and usually only 2 meals a day and a snack of fruit in the evening. We like to eat breakfast between 9 and 10 most days and then supper between 3 and 5. We might have a little snack about 1-a piece or fruit of low fat cheese if we get hungry. DH can't eat heavy meals after 6 or he has bad acid reflux so we try to space things out.

My goal this month is to minimize my spending, track my food and exercise more.
No-Buy Month starts officially today for me. I hope you all will join me and get ready to save big in February! I hope to save just under $300 for the month! Some rules of engagement:

1) You pay all of your bills and handle your business. During one No-Buy Month, my car needed new tires. I got them because it’s important to be safe.

2) No buying food at restaurants or getting snacks from vending machines. Food bought at grocery stores is fair game. Yes, wine bought at the grocery store is approved. No getting your car washed professionally. Wash it yourself. No professional mani-pedis. No buying new clothes. Shop in your closet!

3) If you have any gift cards that you haven’t used yet, No-Buy Month is the perfect time to use them. Use gift cards that you already own and haven’t gotten around to using. So often, we forget to use our gift cards and end up losing them or letting them expire. No bueno. I hate waste.

4) You can go to a free happy hour, but you must tip the server. I hate cheap.

5) Have fun! Try to find at least one free and fabulous activity to do for the month.

Good Morning everyone. I'm mostly a lurker but I wanted to tell Gail that I eat my main meal at lunch and have done that for several years now. I originally started to do this to help me sleep at night. I use to have a problem with gastric reflux when I laid down and it really helped to not have a large meal at night. I only have a small snack at night now. As far as it helping to lose weight, I think it did at first as long as I didn't snack a lot at night. After awhile, I found I was not hungry at night and sometimes I had to make myself eat something. Of course, everyone is different and you'd have to try it yourself.

Hope this helped, Linda

Good Morning:

It's -5F right now with a -20F wind chill. I was thinking of going out today to run some errands but I've changed my mind. Started a new book yesterday and will probably finish it or at least make a good dent in it today.

I read an article yesterday that said if you eat lunch as your main meal before 2PM you're apt to lose more weight. Think I'm going to try that. Do any of you do that? To help myself along I've a nice large salad already prepared. If the spirit moves me I may also make some homemade garden tomato soup. Nothing like soup or a casserole as comfort food on cold winter days.

Wishing you all a happy day.

Gail

Enjoy each day.
