Such a sad, sad day. I fell so sorry for those familes in CT. Praying for peace and healing for them and that those children will be able to get over this horrible tragedy. No child should be subjected to anything like this. What is our world coming to.

Makes saying anything about my day pretty trivial today.

Gail sounds likes you had a great time and got to rest and relax. Good for you. I hope you can still relax some even though you are back home.
Val it sounds like kitty has the best life. Good for her for snuggling in and staying warm!
We turned quite cool today-about 18 degrees cooler this morning than yesterday. I don't think we hit 65 today and it has been overcast, damp, with a light mist off and on. We were so bad this morning. A new donut shop opened in the past 10 days and Bill & Sonny didn't get to go for their usual coffee and donut on Tues due to medical testing so today we got up bright and early and took them to Oscars. They sell out by 10 and open at 5 am so we decided to go about 7:15 thinking it would be a good time and have a good selection left. Wrong. The fancy or specialty donuts weren't ready yet so only had glazed and cake. I was sooo bad and ate one glazed donut and then came home and walked and walked to hopefully get it off my hips!!! It tasted greasy and don't think I will be indulging again anytime soon!! This was a mini celebration also as we learned late yesterday that Sonny's cancer has not spread beyond the prostrate.
Vicky & I did some shopping after our walks. We both had coupons for Bealls and I wanted to get the tervis tumblers that were on sale for our friends, Don & Lin. Vicky found shorts and a bathing suit for her granddaughter. After we got done there, we went to the mall & I used my coupon for Bath & Body-spend $10 and get an item free up to $13. Win-win in my book! I also picked up some containers at the Dollar Tree to put my Friendship Soup in that I plan to give to several people as Christmas gifts. I am almost finished making the gifts I plan to give to friends here in our community.
We had our annual Christmas get together for our rv friends today-there were 14 of us at lunch. It was nice to catch up with friends we only see a couple times a year.

Gail, it sounds like you had some good healing time away again. You sound postivie and rejuvinated. Welcome back. emoticon

I went to see my neurologist this afternoon and she told me that the MRI that was done last week looks exactly the same as the one I had 6 months ago. My MS is definitely stable and not progressing. emoticon Now if I could just start getting decent sleep again and maybe sell this arthritis to some gullible fool who needs a new hobby. emoticon

I hope that the rest of you have been having a great week and staying good and warm. TGTIF. (Thank goodness tomorrow is Friday.)

There was much rejoicing!

Hi Everyone:

I just got back late Tuesday night and was exhausted after a 12 hour trip. I had long layovers.
I got a bit of color though I was in the shade all the time. I relaxed, ate entirely too much, and read some books.

One wash is now in the machine and there will be another tomorrow. I got to the grocery (Aldi's) yesterday and bought myself a present...a new 6 cup food processor. I've been wanting a new one for a long time now, but the good ones cost close to $300. A bit high, don't you think? This one was only $20 and if I don't like the way it works I can return it. Such a deal!

I paid off the last of the funeral expenses yesterday and will soon be looking into buying a headstone. I figure I'll get a double headstone so that there is nothing but the inscriptions to write when I die. The unveiling ceremony is typically on the first anniversary of the the death, though the stone will go up as soon as I get one. I'm aiming for something simple. After all, we are all equal in death, right?

Yesterday I went to PT for my knee and I got 4 exercises. The good news is, though it will take a while, I will get better. The objective is to keep moving, stretch and strengthen the muscles behind the knee, and to do nothing to aggravate the situation.

Will catch you all later after I've had a chance to read all the postings.

Sending hugs to all,

Gail

Enjoy each day.

I'll be okay. I just have to remember how carefully I had to eat a few years ago when I was having all of my dental surgeries and then this will seem easy. At least all I've got to avoid right now is using my front teeth, not one entire side of my mouth. And my dentist is really great so I know I'll get through this. It's just a pain in the hind end, but nothing I can't deal with...and at least right now I've got front "teeth" again.

I'm already sick of winter...and it's not even officially here. emoticon I'm tired of being cold, but at least the apartment people fixed my heater today. emoticon I don't like to have the heater on at night because it blows hot air right in my face while I'm sleeping and I get all dried out. But it will be nice to be able to heat the place up when I get up in the morning so that I don't have to walk around getting ready for work wearing a heavy coat. Even Little Kitty thought it was too cold yesterday. When I got home from work she was under my comforter taking a nap where it was warm. Wouldn't it be wonderful to have a life that was as uncomplicated as a cat's?

I've got to get with it and wrap my Christmas presnts so that I can box them up and mail them next Monday or Tuesday. I was going to try to get that done early this year, but apparently that's not going to happen. Oh well. I hope you've all been having a great week and that you're able to enjoy the approach of the holiday. Stay warm and don't stress over small things.

There was much rejoicing!

Val - I hope things get better. Sorry to hear about the problem you had.

Pat - It sound like a wonderful time with friends.

Nan -I hope you are staying warm.

Well, we are having rain and it only got up to 43 degrees today. Our low tonight is 32. Just been resting today as my sewing machine broke down yesterday as I was making the blankets for the two little girls. I am taking it in tomorrow to get it repaired. Hopefully will have it back quickly.

Hope everyone is having a great week.

Well, Val it sounds like you are going to be on a soft foods diet till you get the new bridge or you chew very softly!! Good luck and prayers for you.

We have been getting rain for the past 3 days and it was much needed. We have been way too dry and our lake was going down again after coming up some this summer. We are praying that we keep getting more rain to help things out.

We hosted our friends, Betty, Boyd, Vicky & Sonny yesterday-I made eggplant lasagna and Vicky brought a salad and I served ready made pies for dessert. We made an afternoon of it-played cards and enjoyed visiting. The purpose was to try to get the guys minds off of all their medical issues and I think it worked.

They got snow up north of me in Santa Fe over the weekend, but here in Albuquerque it's just cold...and all of a sudden my heater doesn't work. The pilot light is on, that I can see. But I can't get it to blow warm air for me. I already sent myself an email to remind me to call the apartment office from work tomorrow morning. At least I've still got hot water so I'll be able to take a hot bath before bed...at least start the night out warm...

Well I had my temporary bridge re-cemented yesterday...and then a few hours later I managed to break it right in half by using my front teeth to bite into a croissant! I know better than that, or at least I did the year that I had all the dental surgery and all that work done. Went back to the dentist this afternoon and he fixed the bridge for me. I'm hoping that it will last until January 8th, which is when I should get my real bridge back, but Dr. Irvin said that he won't be at all surprised if he has to fix it for me another time or two between now and then. If everyone will say a little prayer for my bridge, I think we might just make it. emoticon

I hope that you're all having a great week.

There was much rejoicing!

You all make me feel guilty for having nice warm weather. We hit 78 today and no fog this morning when I walked. It was overcast most of the day and your front is bringing us some much needed rain this evening and thunder which scares Abbie-she is a close to me as she can get in the recliner! To the east of us there was a tornado and I hope to find out on the news later on if anyone was hurt, they already said there was damage and they had a picture of it on the 6 o'clock news.
You guys stay safe and warm.

I haven't seen many Christmas lights or decorations around town yet, but then it only got cold within the last week or so. Kind of hard to think about putting up your Christmas decorations when it's still warm outside. emoticon But now all of a suddent it's cold. Not the kind of deadly cold some of you are getting, but it didn't get UP to freezing until 10:00 this morning and Albuquerque just isn't set up to handle the cold at all. We'll just have to wait and see what Christmas brings, though so far it's not looking like snow is terribly likely. You have to have moisture for snow and we're fresh out of that...

I went to the dentist this morning to have my temporary bridge recemented. I managed to knock it off after just 2 days...I think that's a record, even for me. emoticon So now I'm trying really hard to be careful with it and not knock it off again. In about 20 minutes I'm going to venture out into the cold again so that I can go get an MRI done. I'm going to try very hard to have this one be the last one I ever have to get done. I don't see any point in subjecting myself to all the radiation every year or two when my MS has been quite stable for several years. Guess I'll have to see what my neurologist has to say about that, but I really do not want to have any more of them unless my MS starts getting worse.

So that's the story of my life today, on the last day of my 4 day weekend. I hope that things are going really well for everybody...and that you're all staying warm...

There was much rejoicing!

It's 22 with a wind chill in the teens & the wind is really strong!. I think the birds love their new feeding ststions as they's a lot under them feeding. The gas man came by to put gas in our house tank. Ours sits at the end of our driveway & he says it's the easiest to fill of them all.

Bill brought all the Christmas decorations in & I went thru them. Got rid of some by giving it away. Now to choose which tree to keep & give away the other twoo. I have a friend who takes whatever we want to give away as she comes from a very large family & also knows of several she can pass things on to.

The lights are really pretty when you drive thru town. Some really go all out.

Hope everyone has a good & safe day!

Hi all -
We are at the tail end of a snowstorm here too. We didn't get anything like the feet of snow you got on the mountain though, srivers! I think we got about 10", but the wind was blowing hard so it was 0 visibility, and the wind chill was about 20 below 0. Interstate was closed for most of the state.
We just stayed at home, laying low. I worked on some of my homemade Christmas gifts... I'm making quilled ornaments. It's something new I just learned to do, but they are turning out ok so far!

Pat - your son really must of had a hard time getting through the passes as I know Oregon had snow also. My Hubby is an Ex-Trucker so he feels for your son. Not an easy job at all. But, without them we wouldn't have our food, clothes or anything. So, thank him for us we appreciate the work he does.

It never got up above 36 degrees here today. But, it felt like 32 degrees. The Mountains are still getting snow. Finished sewing all my sewing for the kids today. Will be shipping the packages out Monday.

Hope everyone had a nice weekend. Have a great week.

Sandy that is a lot of snow. My nephew sent pics of I-80 (he is a trucker) and it was closed for a bit and he was stuck in the mess in Wyoming. I just know the snow puts a big hurt on the truckers when it shuts down the interstate.
I finally got my cards finished today and most of them are already in the mail-that is a relief. I will get the rest out on Tues as they have to go to the post office for extra postage.
Hope all of you are having a good weekend.

Thank You everyone.

Pat - I am so sorry to hear about your friend. I hope that everything turns out good for him. I will keep him in my prayers.

Well, it has gotten very cold here. It was 30 degrees this morning. Our local Mountain got 39" of snow last. Hubby is very excited about all that.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Sandy so sorry to hear about your friends-will be praying for the family. Never a good time to lose a loved one, but around the holidays makes it really hard. I am dreading Christmas since Dad passed away Dec 26. My mom's birthday would have been on the 5th so it was a tough day too-she would have turned 90! Hard to imagine since she died at 45.
Val glad your dental visit went well.
I have been busy but haven't accomplished a lot. We have had company dropping in and that slows down things! I am always glad to see them though. Today we played cards in the afternoon-our friend Sonny was just diagnosed with prostrate cancer and he has to have a CT & bone scan on Tues and Wed they will get the results. If the cancer hasn't spread, he will be scheduled for surgery as soon as possible, if it has, he will just get the hormone shots to suppress the cancer. We are praying it has not spread. We are trying to keep him busy so he won't dwell on things.
Friends of ours are buying a home in our community and we are to go to dinner with them tomorrow after they have their interview. We got to go thru the house with them on Wed. I really like it and hope they will be happy here.

Oh my goodness! Here I think I've got it so tough with another round of big dental work, but that's nothing compared to losing your wife, your mother or your life. I'm so very sorry to hear about this, and of course I will say prayers for this family. It's really good that the husband is close to the wife's family and won't be going through this all alone.

There was much rejoicing!

Val - Glad that at least you were able to get it done and now you can rest for 4 days. Hopefully it won't be too long before your new one comes in.

We did some running round today and finish the shopping for the kids. I got everything wrapped for our son. Will box it up tomorrow and ship it out next week. We are still trying to find out about our daughter. Hopefully we will know something this weekend.

We got bad news this week about a friend of ours wife. They just had a baby about a year ago and his wife pass away yesterday from aneurysms. She was complaining about her arm hurting and having a bad headache before she blacked out. I am going to make angle blankets for both the girls for Christmas. Please say a prayer for this family. This poor guy has lost a family member each year for the last 4 years. He is very close to his wife's family, which is good. They are now there living with him and helping.

Things like this really puts everything in prospective and makes you thankful for your friends and family. I just wanted to let you all know how much I appreciate and love all of you. Take care and get your check ups.

I spent 2 1/2 hours in the dentist chair today. emoticon He had a really hard time getting my bridge off and there is some question as to whether or not we're going to be able to use it again. (He had to drill through it in two places, and I think that he said he had to break it.) One way or the other, I've got a really nice temporary bridge right now (I've had a couple that were pretty unpleasant. emoticon ) and I should have a real one on again shortly after the first of the year.

In the meantime, I've got a 4 day weekend. emoticon Our supervisor is trying to help us all use up all of the vacation time that we can't roll over into next year and so I ended up with a 4 day weekend. Not sure that I'm going to do anything particularly fun with the 4 days. Probably just the rest of the continuing education that I need for my recertification in a year and a half. (We lose access our free CE site at the end of the year so I might as well use it while the company has it.) Also a trip to Wal Mart and some cleaning around the place.

I saved up enough points from the boxes of kitty litter that I buy over the course of the last several years to get my kitties a really nifty new play thing. It's called a crackle chute and I have a feeling that now that they've tried it out, they will only want to crawl through it in the middle of the night when I'm finally sound asleep. That's okay. I'm going to put it in the kitchen at night so that I'll have a fighting chance of not hearing it when they're playing. I'd love to call it a "free" plaything for the cats, but I was only able to get it by deeming the points from several hundred dollar's worth of cat litter. I would have bought it one way or the other, so it's nice that the kitties have a new toy to keep me up with at night. emoticon

Everyone have a great Friday while I sleep in until 7:00 in the morning and then study online all day. emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

Vali, I'm glad the denist visit went well. And the shot. I had to have one in my left arm shoulder joint & I REALLY hope I don't have to have one ever again. But it did stop the pain even before I left the office.

It's cold & dreary out. The sort of day where all you want to do is lay down & sleep!

Hope everyone has a good & safe day!

Yesterday was the dentist. Today was a shot in my knee, which went very well. Almost no pain. emoticon Tomorrow it's back to the dentist to get this bridge removed, my abutments repaired and get a temporary bridge put on. My dentist said that he'll have to get the bridge "refired." I have absolutely no idea what that means, but it must be important or I wouldn't have to deal with a temporary bridge. THEN I get a 4 day weekend, which has absolutely nothing to do with all of the torture I'm enduring this week. The two things just ended up happening together but I'll take the 4 days off, one way or the other. emoticon I need to get off the computer and get some things done before bedtime so I'll yak at all of you again some other time. Everyone try to have a great Thursday.

There was much rejoicing!

Val - I am glad that things went well for you at the dentist. I hope he can fix it with no problems. emoticon

Pat - How is your HD doing ? It sound like you have been busy in the garden lately. emoticon

I worked out in the morning and took a little walk. Just rested the rest of the day as I had a little migraine last night and it makes me really tired the next day. We did do some cleaning as we are getting ready yo put up the Christmas tree as soon as we have a break in the rain. It is to get down to about 36 tonight. We have gotten another 6" of snow in our mountains and are excepting more. They are talking about the possibility of a dusting of snow on Saturday at our level. It would be nice but, we will see. emoticon

have a great rest of the week everyone. emoticon

Val- emoticon news-glad this is something that can be fixed without any surgery but it still doesn't sound like fun!

We are having gorgeous weather-guess it is making up for the cold Nov. We are supposed to be in the low 80's from Sat thru Tues. Maybe I can get to the pool in the afternoons.

The dentist visit went okay, I guess. Turns out I have not harmed my bridge or my implants, but rather broken one of my abutments. (I guess that's how you spell it.) They're things (like screws?) that go in the spaces where some of my teeth were for my bridge to sit on. (I think.) I'm not really sure when it started, but these days I clench my teeth so hard at night (and possibly grind them? Not sure.) that my jaw will hurt in the morning if I don't consciously hold my jaws apart while I'm trying to fall asleep. I think (and Dr. Irvin agrees) that I probably damaged one or more of those abutments because of the night time teeth clenching. emoticon

So...I'm going back on Thursday. My dentist will see what he can do to get my bridge off, fix (or redo?) the abutments, give me a temporary bridge (not one of the most things I've ever had to do before emoticon ), have the bridge refired (??) and then cement it on again. And that, children, is why you should all take much better care of your teeth than I did when I was young. There should not be any new surgeries involved ( emoticon ) just more hours in the dentist's chair and many more shots with that yard long needle all dentists use to inject novocaine. emoticon At least it's fixable.

I hope the week has started out well for the rest of you. Mine's been okay, other than dental problems. Tomorrow (and the next 2 Wednesdays) I'll be getting a shot in my left knee, and then I should be good to go for most of the next 6 months. Isn't getting old just grand...??

There was much rejoicing!

Can you beleive that yesterday we had 76 temps? I used it to hang out he wash 7 even did all the throw rugs. Opened up all the windows & vaccumed the whole house. Helped Bill put up a new bird feeder ststion in the back patio, did some on line bill paying & we even went to the church & got the Christmas tree out of storage & set it up. Others will put the decorations on it. But the time I got the clothes down & put away I was wiped out. This is the most I've been able to do since 01/2011. Today it just got to the low 50's & was raining all morning. So I finsihed the bill paying & still need to do the ironing. Dial up is so slow..

V, how did the denist go?

I made it to the gym and worked out for almost 45 min. It felt good and I was glad I didn't get too winded. I guess all my walking is paying off. I got into the weight room but didn't overdo it. Once I get back into things, I plan to go for 60-90 min but just not yet. I am still walking and don't plan to give that up unless we get really cold.

Ran around today and got a few things done. We have another storm heading in tonight and the wind is suppose to pick up. It only got up to 48 degrees today but felt like 36. The Mountain where we ski got 18" of snow in the last 24 hrs and is expecting more tonight. HD is very excited. I am going to try to ski this year and see how I do with my hand and shoulder.

I was able to get my son's blanket and 2 pillows done this weekend. I am now sewing his black out curtains for him. He works at night and sleeps during the day. The ones he has are not very good. So, I buy cheap curtains and then go to the fabric store, with my coupon, and by black out material and sew it on the back of the curtain. And for the price it is much cheaper. It is about $30 - 40 for just one curtain. I get 2 for done for about $25.00 or 30.00.

I now just have to get my daughters blanket and pillows done. Also, my Aunt's grocery bag and then my baking. So, I am doing pretty good.

Hope everyone is doing good and staying warm.

Gail - Have a good trip!
Pat - Sounds like a nice day!

As for me, we just went to church this morning and out to lunch with the family (us and my hubby's 2 sisters, brother, and 2 nieces). Then we had to make a quick trip to Walmart, and then we've just been relaxing around the house since then. I worked on bills and budget stuff this evening. It's going to be tight this month due to DH being laid up (ankle surgery, he will be unable to work for at least 6 weeks), plus I don't have as many hours as usual this month due to the holidays and having to leave early to pick up our daughter before daycare closes (hubby usually does it but he's laid up, so I have to leave work an hour early each day to do it). At least we were able to sock some money away in savings before his surgery to help fill in the gaps.
Sorry for the vent, but hey I figure this is the frugal living team, maybe you'll have some tips on getting by cheaply on reduced income.

Sorry for the vent

Gail have a great time doing NOTHING! I know you just want to relax and let your brain take a break from everything you have been dealing with. Come back refreshed and renewed.

I had a great day today. Up for an early morning walk and then as I had time before church, I decided to catch up my ironing. Felt good to have that off the to-do list. Today was the collection at church for Toys for Tots so had to make sure I remembered our contributions. We went to brunch after church and our friends who we rode to church with invited us to go out on their pontoon boat this afternoon. What a beautiful day on the lake-the water was like glass. We saw lots of wildlife while out on the lake today.
I got the rest of my flowers planted after giving Abbie a bath when we got home except for 2 geraniums-I ran out of potting soil so will have to get more and then I can get them planted.
Hope all of you have planned for the coming week to help you meet your goals.
Pat

Good Morning:

My daughter and sil came by yesterday to take me to lunch. Afterward, we came back to my home and they helped me go through things, tossing out a lot and setting the rest aside for charity. We did manage to fill a few boxes of books and I'll go over to HALF PRICE BOOKS to sell them later. Also, we found a box of books that may contain archival material and books that may have some value. It's sometimes hard to tell if the material is written in a language I cannot read.

I'm going to take it easy today and tomorrow. Tuesday I'm going away for a week's rest and I need to get up at 3:30am so that I can get to the airport in time. The thought of a good rest is keeping me going.

Hope you all have a nice Sunday.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Val good luck at the dentist-sure hope it isn't something major.

My goals for Dec is to lose another 5 lbs during the month. I also want to go to the gym at least 3x a week and firm up some more and lose more inches. I got all the paperwork done today to reinstate my membership for Dec.

My goal for the month is to not have any big crises next month. I'm in the middle of one right now and I'd like to not have any more of them for a while after this one is over. A couple of nights ago I noticed that the bridge that fills the space where 7 real teeth used to live is loose. emoticon I freaked out because I immediately thought oh great, more dental surgery. Just what I need. But then I talked to my mom and made an appointment with my prosthodontist for next Tuesday and now I'm hoping that this crisis will be easier than what I was envisioning before I talked to Mom. She's the one who passed terrible teeth down to me and she has had this problem before. We're hoping that I just need to have the bridge re-cemented instead of having more dental surgery. (I wish Spark had an emoticon for crossed fingers...)

So I'll see one of my dentists on Tuesday and find out just how big of a crisis this is that I'm having. Just trying not to worry any more than necessary until then. emoticon After all of this is over I might work on a goal of trying to lose the weight I gained over Thanksgiving ( emoticon ) but I'm going to put that on hold for at least a few days. I hope that you all have a fabulous weekend.

There was much rejoicing!

My goal for this month : Is to keep the weight off that I lost while I was in Calif. and to keep up with my work outs.

My goal for next year : Is to really try to get ahead of the game and get my garden growing early. And hopefully have the house sold so that we can find a home here in the Northwest so we don't have to rent any more.

Have a great weekend everyone. emoticon
