Today has been interesting to say the least! I got to the hospital at 7 and by 8 his roommate who arrived at 3 am was out of there! After he was moved, the nurse told us that DH tested positive for Strain A flu virus so he had to be quarantined. He got his private room after all!!! Now folks have to put on a mask and gloves when in the room with him! The steroids are have caused his blood sugar to get out of whack and he is temporarily getting insulin. They say it will clear back up when this is over. He has been prescribed tamiflu so hoping that gets him over this quickly. His white count is low and until that is up, he won't get to come home. However, they have told us he might get to come home Jan 1 if things turn around as they anticipate.

Mariann - Welcome to the Team. You have the right idea about getting rid of the cake. Give it to someone that can use it.

Pat - I am glad to hear that DH is doing better. Glad that you are taking it easy too. Don't need you getting sick again.

I am doing better just taking it easy all day. I hope that everyone has a nice and safe New Year's Eve. emoticon emoticon

Good morning, good day everyone!

I'm Marianna and I have read a few days worth of your postings and I must say I am glad to have landed here with you all. You are a lovely bunch!

I am 53 and I have 20 pounds to lose. I live in PA. I have been a "SparkPeople" before, in 2009, and I liked it here and made some nice pals but I guess I just fell away from the program.

Do you think there will be a January 1st rush of losers/savers? emoticon

I have many leftovers here, I had a meal for 9 on Christmas Eve and another party for 14 on Christmas Day. I tried to make healthful dishes...carrots and beets, a fruit and veggie appetizer platter...but other people brought some decadent desserts and cookies and then left them here...there is a chocolate cake that won't go away. Today I might grind it up in the food processor with it's fabulous nut topping and mix it with some rum to make rum balls for a New Years Eve party. (And leave them at someone else's house?) emoticon

Well? I guess I'll go huddle and spin the wheel. Happy Sunday!

Lets see if we can stick to the program ALL DAY! (And then do it again tomorrow!)

Sandy hope you wake up feeling better. Nothing to sneeze at this year getting ill. They say the county we live in is being hit really hard this year. Beds are at a premium in the hospital.

Val I hate going to the hospital. I quit taking Abbie in the winters to do her therapy thing to expose us to less germs-didn't want to bring anything home to Bill or Dad. I use lots of the hand sanitizer but still pretty sure I picked this up vising DH last time!!

DH is doing better today. They finally got his antibiotics going about midnight and by morning he was already feeling better. He felt good enough this afternoon to walk the hall some with Fred (his IV pole)! I am trying to only stay shorter times and come home and rest so I don't relapse. I went 2 times today to see him.
This afternoon I finally got my Christmas turkey breast baked and it turned out yummy. I froze half of the meat and kept half for me to nibble on.

Well want to try to go early tomorrow and see if I can catch his dr so best get to bed.

Gail - hope today was a better day for you. I know it is hard at time and that is to be expected.

Pat - I am sorry to hear about DH. I hope they got everything squared away at the hospital today and that he is doing better today. You take care of yourself too. You don't want to relapse.

Val - Your cats are a kick. And you my dear have the right frame of mind. Keep it up. As my Mother and Grandmother use to say take a walk another persons shoe and yours doesn't look so bad. They are so right.

IMREITE - When I have gone shopping and something is not there it means I am not support to have it. I'm like you I bargain shop and shop with coupons. My Mother always taught me if it's not on sale don't buy it as soon as you do it will go on sale. So, I wait till it goes on sale and if it is there when it goes on sale then I was suppose to have it other wise I was it. The other thing I always say is - is it a need or a want - that gets me out of buying a lot of times. Because if it is a want then I really don't need it. emoticon

Well, all I have been a little under the weather all day so I am heading to bed early. I hope everyone is having a nice weekend. Hugs to you all.

Gail, you're so sweet. I do laugh a lot. My theory about life is that I can either laugh at the things that happen in my life or I can cry because of them, and I like laughing a lot more than I like crying. Most things are pretty funny if you look at them in the right light...and I am a little twisted sometimes. emoticon

I went to Wal Mart yesterday to pick up a couple of things. I was tempted to buy a bottle of champagne for New Year's Eve, but when I thought about it I realized that the only reason to do that would be to get drunk before having to go to bed at 7:00 or 8:00, miss all of the New Year's festivities, have a really hard time getting up at 3:00, and then be hung over at work on New Year's Day. There are many reasons why I don't really drink anymore, and those thoughts just highlighted several of them so I decided that I really didn't need that bottle of champagne no matter how cheap its price was. So I'll be starting out my new year with that frugal and sober decision, which is a pretty good way to start off a new year. emoticon

Pat, I hope your DH gets back to feeling well and gets out of the hospital soon. When you work in hospitasl for a long enough period of time you come to realize that hospitals are horrible places to be. Partly because they're just sad places to be and partly because the longer you're in one, the higher your chances are of coming out with an illness you didn't have when you went in. I really hope that doesn't happen to your DH and that he's back on his feet in no time at all.

Everyone stay warm, keep your darn cold air to yourselves (please), and have a great last few days of 2012.

There was much rejoicing!

Good Morning;

Yesterday was a rough day emotionally and depression set in. I was gentle with myself and just did whatever piqued my fancy at the moment, mostly TV and computer games. Today is a new day and it will be better.

Sending everyone hugs,

Gail

Sandy: So sorry to learn Kurt is going through such rough times. It seems that has been the story of his life. He really needs a break.

IMREITE: Yes, sometimes we don't get what we set out for but things work better in the end. In your case you saved money and calories. Good for you.

Val: Am thinking of you and hope you have a great weekend. I wish I could see and hear you laugh. You have been through a rough year.

Pat: How is Bill doing today? Were you able to ward off the head cold? Keeping you both in my prayers.

Enjoy each day.

it helped me save money and calories

Just a quick little note and then off to bed-it is late and I am tired-no nap today. DH is back in the hospital. Saw the dr at 1 and he sent him directly to the hospital to get on IV antibiotics. Still didn't have it started when I talked to him a little while ago-not sure if they are waiting on the culture-I doubt it will be back in less than 24 hrs and I know doc wanted him on it ASAP. We will have a talk tomorrow about all this. Not happy but I just wasn't well enough to stay like I normally would have. I will be in there like a demon tomorrow.
Abbie is ok today-thankful she only had a light touch of this. I am doing better but now feel like I might be getting a head cold! Oh joy. If that happens, I will head to the urgent care and get some antibiotics this weekend.

Sandy, thank you for letting us know about Kurt. I think about him pretty much every time I get on and read the posts from this group so it's really good to know that he's at least physically okay. I wish that I could offer him a job, but I kinda live in the wrong area and it would take him a while to get trained as a med tech...

So now my work week is finished...but I've got another one just like it next week. Work another holiday on Tuesday and then work short staffed until Friday, when we will finally have our full complement of techs again. At least I won't have had a chance to get bored at work for a couple of weeks...

The kitties have been good little girls this week. It's been days since either one of them woke me up early. emoticon Whoever said it was right, I love those little creatures and they really are my kids. (And I'm much more suited to having furry kids than the human variety.) I'm hoping that they'll let me sleep in this weekend so that I'll be rested up enough to do some cleaning and organizing around here that I've only been doing parts of recently. I just hate housework, but it has to be done and the kitties don't seem to want to do any of it for me. emoticon I hope that you all have a great weekend and that you stay warm.

There was much rejoicing!

Afternoon all. I received an e-mail today from Kurt and I thought I would share part of it with you so that you will know what is going on with him. So, here is what he said:

"I haven't been able to get ANY work, including part-time jobs and department store work during the holidays, although I'd been applying everywhere for months.
The teaching jobs I was supposed to get in September and the end of October both fell through.
Unemployment turned me down.
I've been applying for ANYTHING like restaurant deliveries and things for minimum wage. I even helped a former student with a couple of small furniture moving jobs recently. Kurt"

So, if you can please keep Kurt in your prayers. He just has not been able to get on line. I am keeping in touch with him so, I will keep you up dated as I hear anything from Kurt.

Pat - I hope your DH is feeling better today and has not gotten worse. You both take care and stay warm.

Sandy

Val your kitties are a riot but as was said-just like children!! I am sure they bring lots of enjoyment to you.
Penny glad you had a nice Christmas and didn't get too much snow.
Sandra how nice that you can have chickens and turkeys where you live. I have often thought it would be nice to have them here so folks could have fresh eggs but the city ordinance doesn't allow it. We always had chickens when I was a kid-lots and lots of them and I had to gather the eggs.
I am a lot better today but dear DH is worse. I called his dr and when I talked to him he wasn't running a fever but of course he did tonight but it is back down now. I will check again tomorrow as I don't want to get into the weekend and have him get worse as tomorrow is his last day of antibiotics.
Hope all of you are staying warm and healthy.

Sounds like everyone has the same idea. We are staying in also. It has been cold here in the Northwest not getting above 40 degrees but, feels like 36 all week. Had snow just before Christmas but was got by Christmas day. We are going to get a break from the rain for a couple of days and have some sun. Son is coming up for a visit end of January for our annual Ski trip. We are planning to go to Whistler, BC this year. We had a lot of fun the last time we all went.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend. Stay warm and safe.

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone!

Val, I chuckled when I read about your cats and the wrapping paper. They're kinda like children, aren't they? Having more fun with the box sometimes than the gift.
emoticon emoticon emoticon

Pat, sorry for your loss. I know your Dad is awaiting the day he can be re-joined with you, but now he is part of the "great cloud of witnesses" and is looking on at your life with love and affection.
emoticon emoticon emoticon

BamaJam, I love your goal for 2013. Stay snuggly warm.
emoticon emoticon emoticon

Today I'm doing a lot of household chores. I went out to the "barn" here on our urban farm to check the chickens and turkeys. Mr. and Mrs. Tom gobbled hello and the chickens were perched everywhere. I fed them some table scraps (mostly veggie peelings) and a couple scoops of chicken feed. We had six eggs today...not too bad for winter laying. I love looking at the different shades of eggs, from pale peach to darker "brown". We sell most of the eggs for $5.00 a dozen (or sometimes 18 eggs) to friends. They pay premium since it's hard to find fresh farm eggs in the city.

Hope everyone had a good Christmas. We missed the snow/ice but the wind is very strong & it's really cold. we went to my youngest DD for Christmas & have just stayed in since. a lot of people are "bargain shopping" but I really don't want to go to a store for a while. Not even a book store! Bill's been feeling poorly & there's so much that he can not take. About the time I think he's over it he seems to get it again.
I really hope that this year is so much beter for everyone than last year was. Have a good & safe day!

Where I live we have a big problem with drunken drivers, especially on holidays and when there are UW football games. For this reason I stay off the road. I'll greet the new year quietly, snug as a bug in a rug and I'll be fine being alone. Vic and I never made a big deal out of new year's eve.

Got a long TO DO list today, and though I may not get through the whole thing I'd better get started.

Sending hugs to all,

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Work was okay for me yesterday...but today was just insane beause we were busy and down one person. The one good thing was that days like today go by really quickly. I worked my normal shift, got off at 1:30, came home and took a shower and got today's clothes ready, and then I opened the many Chritsmas presents my mom had sent me. (She always seems to go overboard but she did a little bit better this year.) Mom even sent a present for the kitties, tuna flavored tarter control treats that Little Kitty just loved...and Luna would not eat no matter how I tried to present them to her. emoticon Luna also refuses to play with the crackle chute thingamajig that I got for them a couple of weeks ago with my cat litter points. Cali will play with it a little bit and will sometimes just lie inside it, so at least I know that the little one appreciates gifts. emoticon

So anyway, Christmas was okay and even kind of fun after I got off work. (The kitties both loved the wrapping paper. emoticon ) My temporary bridge has come unglued...again. Tomorrow after work I'm going to get some denture adhesive, which is what I was told to use if it came unglued this week. It actually stays on okay right now as long as I don't try to do anything foolish like eating. Until I get the denture stuff I'll just take the bridge out while I eat, that's no big deal. I should be getting my (hopefully) permanent bridge back on January 8th and I am very much looking forward to that. Just the little things that make life so much nicer...like having "teeth" that don't fall out when you eat...

Pat, I'm glad that you seem to be starting to feel a bit better. Hope your back to 100% really soon. Gail, I think your idea to get the double headstone and to have it inscribed is lovely. Everyone else, enjoy the last few days of the year, keep yourselves warm and stay out of trouble. emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

Welcome Sandra - think you will enjoy this team-lots of support here.
Gail I am so happy to hear you had a good time. It is always nice to relax and be with friends. They are the glue that keeps us together-especially when family is not close at hand.
I am so thankful for all the wonderful friends we have-they are truly a blessing in my life. I woke up still with a temperature of over 100 so didn't try to go to our usual Wed breakfast and then to the dr with Bill. Vicky & Sonny took him and Vicky went into the dr with him. The little pill camera that he swallowed a couple weeks ago showed he had some small bleeds in his intestine so dr has him scheduled for a procedure on Jan 3 to cauterize those spots and he thinks this may have to be repeated every 6 mo as Bill has tiny vessels very close that are doing a slow bleed. This is making him anemic so he is now also on iron tablets. However, he is already feeling so much better that I think we are about to get my Humpty Dumpty glued back together again!!!
My fever is finally down to 98.9 so I am thinking I am finally on the mend. This has been a long 4 days and I sure hope none of you come down with this strain of the flu. I have not had the flu in probably 25 years so certainly was not prepared for this-I never get sick-don't have time!!!
Today has been a sad day-it was a year ago today that my dad passed away. I know he lived a good long life but it is still sad. I have shed a few tears when I got notes from friends and family but they are happy tears-I know he is in Heaven and this year got to spend his Christmas there.
Val I hope work wasn't too taxing and you got to come home and chill.
Pat

Hi~ I'm new here (just introduced myself)....

My hubby and I spent Christmas at his mom's. Instead of the usual big spread, she served just the turkey breast (oven-roasted to perfection) with several finger foods, salad, etc. I was relieved, and enjoyed the "lighter" meal. We played several games of Yahtzee afterwards.

Looking at it w/ fresh eyes, I see this light dinner as symbolic of the coming year. My goal since re-joining Spark People in November is to "Lighten Up." I also desire to return to simple living and being more intentional w/ how I interact w/ friends, family and my community. Playing an old-fashioned game or two of Yahtzee reflects that spirit....just sitting around the table w/ family and enjoying each other's company. I think 2013 will be a great year!

Good Morning:

I had a wonderful time last night with my friends at a sumptuous Christmas dinner. No. I didn't overeat and the food was truly healthy and delicious. The company was great too and it was quiet and relaxed. I'm glad I went because I was going out of obligation more than anything.

I've already done some things on my TO DO list for today but it's unclear as to whether or not I'll get to the other stuff. For one thing, I called the monument company and a rep is coming to my house on Friday afternoon to discuss options and prices with me. Hopefully, the cost won't take me to the cleaners. I figured I'd get a double monument and have it good to go when I die. In addition to his name, birth and death dates I was thinking of having the following inscription: He deeply loved his family, music and life. The rabbi said that was completely appropriate. What do you think?

Sending you all hugs.

Gail

Nan: Hope your holiday was really special. Do you have plans for New Year's Eve?

Pat: I know you've been down with a nasty flu and am so sorry it spoiled your Christmas plans. Hope you are on the mend.

Val: How are you doing? Are you now back to work? How is your bridge holding up?

TOTHEFUTURE: Hope things are going well for you. What are your plans for today?

I pray all of you are well and enjoying the Christmas festivities. I am still under the weather and trying to avoid contact with everyone-certainly do not want to share this with anyone. Friends are being so good to us and bringing us meals and tomorrow will take DH to the dr for me and hopefully to PT later in the morning. My temperature is still up and down but feeling a little better-the headache has eased up so maybe I am on my way to getting better.
Merry Christmas dear friends.

TOTHEFUTURE:

There is beauty in a quiet day. If you read my last blog, I'm going through motions this year, going to get-togethers because it's expected. Not to say I don't deeply love my family and dear friends, it's just that I still crave to be by myself.

I hope you are content with your life and don't mind (or even enjoy) "alone time".

The greatest joy I had this holiday season was giving those new toys from Vic's toy collection to that neighbor family with five kids. Wish I could feel that delighted more often. I've been giving boatloads of stuff to Hospice and Easter Seals, but it's not the same, even though those charities are truly worthy.

Last night I spent a traditional Christmas eve with my daughter and her family. She makes a seafood chowder, we open gifts and play games. I did not overeat and that felt good. It was really lovely. In a little while I'll be going to a traditional Christmas dinner at my very dear friends house. Got to kick back and try to relax without eating my way into oblivion. Tomorrow it's back to business with clearing things and making a trip to Half Price Books with a couple of boxes of CDs.

Sending you all many hugs and hoping you are enjoying your day.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Well what a horrible time to get sick, Pat. It was certainly a good idea to cancel tomorrow's dinner plans, but I do hope that you start feeling better so that you can at least enjoy Christmas a little bit. I'll be working so you can guess how much I'll be enjoying my Christmas, but at least it will be over by 1:30 or 2:00 and I'll be able to come home and open my presents with my kitties. (They'll probably be most interested in the wrapping...as usual. emoticon emoticon )

I hope that the rest of you are well and that you all have a wonderful day tomorrow, whether you are celebrating Christmas or not.

There was much rejoicing!

I am not doing any better today so called our friends and cancelled dinner plans for tomorrow. Do not think they would want to come here with me sick. I am still running a fever, aching from head to toe and go from freezing to burning up (still have a fever-it is going up and down today-from 99.3 to 101.4. If I get to 102 I will head to the Urgent Care. Don't think there is a lot they can do for the flu!
Have a blessed Christmas.

When this part of my dental adventure began (after I'd broken the abutments on my supposedly permanent bridge) it took my dentist more than an hour, possibly as much as an hour and a half, to remove the bridge that was supposed to be permanent. Of course, it's not supposed to take that much time to remove a temporary bridge but I guess it's kind of a good sign that it was so difficult to get my permanent bridge off even after I'd broken it. Gives me a lot of confidence that when Dr. Irvin puts my permanent hardware back on it will stick around for a bit longer than this troublesome temporary one has. He's going to make me a night guard this time in the hopes that it will keep me from breaking my abutments and ruining the bridge again. I'm not sure exactly how this guard is supposed to keep me from clenching my teeth so hard, but I'm willing to give it a try.

In addition to getting into the Christmas spirit for the first time in years, I've actually been a good girl this year. (Maybe that's actually a part of being in the Christmas spirit, who knows?) In years past I would always open my Christmas presents when they came in the mail. I think that was a rebellion against my dad and his very regimented way of opening presents on Christmas morning and dragging it out for half the day. The first presents from my mom came weeks ago...and they are lying on the bed in the extra bedroom waiting to be opened on Christmas or possibly on Christmas Eve. When the second box came from my mom it went on that bed, too, as did the third box, which just came on Friday. The second and third boxes haven't even been opened for the purpose of taking the wrapped gifts out and putting them on the bed. I figured that would just lead to more temptation than I was likely to be able to handle. (I've never been big on delayed gratification. emoticon ) I might open those first two presents that are out of the mailing box on Christmas Eve, but I'm thinking that it might just be nice to wait until after I get home from work on Christmas to open all of the presents. Oh my goodness...I sound almost like an adult! emoticon

I hope that you are all staying well and warm as we round the final corner and approach the finish line that is Christmas. I hope that you are all going to arrive there with bank accounts that haven't been needlessly emptied in order to buy the latest and most popular Christmas gifts. As I think we've all seen since this horrible shooting in Connecticut, it's not the gifts that matter at Christmas, what really matters are the family and friends we are able to spend the holiday with. I hope that we're all able to spend time with the people who matter to us and make lasting memories that are worth so much more than anything we can buy in a store. I wish you all a blessed, joyous and peaceful Christmas.

Val reading your post about your temporary bridge - I just have to tell you what happened to a friend this week. He is getting a new bridge and dentist gave him a temporary and he said he could not get it in so Wed he went to the dentist and the assistant got it in and then could not get it out!!! She and the dentist worked for an hour and it would not budge. He said she was practically standing on his chest trying to get it out. Well, he had to go back on Thur and the dentist had to saw it in half to get it out. He said that was not pleasant. Dentist told him this is the 1st time in 30 years of dentistry anything like this ever happened. He is going to do without teeth until the final product is ready-said this was just too much for him.
Gail so glad you were able to get out and go to your PT session. I had to cancel Bill's sessions on Wed and Fri. He won't go back until Wed after Thanksgiving. That will be a busy day. We have 2 dr appts and his therapy that day!! What a kind thing you did for your neighbor's family. I am sure they are grateful and as Val said, it wasn't intentional but Vic's buying these toys ultimately had a good use. It will make these children very happy come Christmas morning. Some of us don't realize how very blessed we are.
I woke up feeling terrible this morning. I had a sore throat so got up and drank some warm water that I put some apple cider vinegar in it. It burned all the way down and tonight my sore throat is gone but I will repeat before I got to bed. The longer I was up, the worse I felt. We called our friends to say we weren't going to church and I went back to bed. I started running a fever and then got chills so Bill piled 3 blankets on me and I was still cold. Finally about 2 I got hot and after some tylenol, my fever started dropping. I got up to 101.6 and it was down to 99.4 about 30 min ago so thinking I am heading in the right direction. I have been taking some mucinex and I think it is breaking the congestion up and also some coricidan for cough and cold so maybe I can knock this out fast. I do not have time to be sick!! Thinking I was at the hospital just a little too much even though I used lots of hand sanitizer.

Gail, how great to be able to give Christmas gifts to your neighbor family. I know that getting rid of all of Vic's stuff has been a huge burden for you up till now, but it must feel really nice to be able to use some of it to make someone else's Christmas brighter. I'm sure it was not really his intent, but Vic has given you a really beautiful Christmas gift this year. Try to hold that good feeling in your heart when the clearing out gets to feeling stressful.

This Christmas season hasn't been nearly as stressful for me as the first one after the divorce was last year. I got my Christmas presents mailed on time and I've spent the last week trying to be more or less in the Christmas spirit. I have one work uniform that's got an actual Christmas theme and 3 or 4 others that have wintery themes. I wore those at work this week with my various Christmas earrings and other jewelry. I even listened to Christmas music on my iPod instead of skipping it when it came up in the rotation. I'm sure it doesn't sound like much, but I've been a pretty big grinch for the last few years and it felt pretty good to just go with the Christmas flow. The mass shooting in Connecticut put a damper on things, though, and I'm still praying for all of the people who were affected by it. What a horrible thing to have happen to your community a couple of weeks before Christmas.

I'm still trying to hang onto my temporary bridge until the beginning of the year. On Thursday it came unglued while I was drinking coffee in the morning. I took an hour away from work to go get it re-cemented and finished my work day. Then after work I went home, took my shower, and then without thinking used my front teeth to bite down on something and broke the darn thing right in half! So back to the dentist I went for the second time that day. He's a really nice man and wasn't mad at me at all, but I felt so guilty for extending his day. Of course, if dentists worked on Fridays I could have just had it taken care of the next day...but in Albuquerque they do not. (Probably not just here...)

It has been flippin' cold here recently. Summer lasted forever this year, but then we went from afternoons with high temps in the 60s and 70s to all of a sudden having mornings where it's 15 degrees when I'm driving to work and afternoon highs of 30 to 35. I'm soooooo over winter...and it only officially started yesterday! I liked the cold a lot more before I had such awful arthritis. (Getting "old" kind of sucks...and I won't even be 50 for another year and a half! So much more "fun" to come for me... emoticon ) Everyone stay warm and have a great Christmas. emoticon emoticon

emoticon I went to my PT appointment yesterday morning and the therapist was really very surprised at my progress; it was exceptional. My left and right knee were out of synch by some seven degrees; well, I improved by four degrees. I'm not limping so much and the pain is going away, although I still need to take some ibuprofen about every second or third day.

When I got ready to leave yesterday morning Zach, my shoveler, was out there working away. Zach cleared enough space for me to back out. Since it was dark last night I didn't see that the job was not finished. I came to find out that he, his mom, dad, three brothers and sister were all out there for me last night. They knew about my 7:30am PT appointment and were determined I was going to get there. I was very touched. Poor Zach was at it for a few hours yesterday so I paid him for two days in addition to the Christmas gift. I called his mom to thank her for all they did for me, and in chatting with her I got the feeling that they are kind of strapped for Christmas. She and her husband were going to the stores today to get something for the kids. Vic collected toys and right now my living room is filled with boxes of brand new toy cars, trucks, helicopters, etc., some with remote controls. I told her to come by and pick out stuff for the kids. I really feel good about this. It's so hard in these times and must be especially difficult for them with five kids 15 and under.

Got to say I was overjoyed that I have an all wheel drive SUV yesterday. Many vehicles were abandoned on the road and several had just gotten stuck. Even a semi was stuck. I went slowly and had no problem, but I think I'm going to put an extra blanket and a shovel in my car. I always keep the tank at least 2/3 full in winter.

Stay well everyone and be happy.

Gail

Pat: So sorry for all you and Bill are going through and hope he gets well in the very near future. I know only too well how illness winds up eating a lot out of the budget. Hope you come out from under soon.

Sandy: Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts. I'm so glad to be safe and comfortable. Some folks in this area were without power over night. Here, where I live, the power lines are all under ground.

Gail I was thinking of you and wondering how you were doing. Glad to hear you hired someone to do the shoveling. My sons used to do that for extra money. They had a plow for the front of their riding lawnmower, chains for the tires, and did great. They had a lawn mowing business in the summer-they did really well for kids-they started this when the oldest was 14 and the younger boy 12 and did it till they were out of high school!
I am finally able to sit down and relax-DH got out of the hospital about 10:30 today. He is feeling so much better. Glad he is home, but he needed those 3 days in there and the IV antibiotics!
I have had to run to get his meds and do some grocery shopping for Christmas-having friends over for Christmas dinner and his ending up in the hospital really threw a big money wrench in my plans for this week!
Now to get myself back on schedule.
Hope all of you in the path of this storm are as snug as Gail. Stay safe and have a blessed holiday.

Good Evening:

We have a state of emergency here in Wisconsin. There is 15-18 inches of snow in the city and it's still snowing. Winds are about 40mph so there are a lot of drifts. I hired a local high school boy to clear snow for me in winter. It was so bad he had to recruit his 3 or 4 younger brothers to help. One used the snow blower and the others had shovels! What a job. They were at it for a couple of hours. I will pay him what was agreed upon and will also give him an equal amount as a Christmas gift.

I'm doing fine, snug as a bug in a rug. There's one more PT exercise to complete and then....FREEDOM. The clinic called me this afternoon and they scheduled me for tomorrow morning at 7:30am. I should be good to go with a clear driveway and an all wheel SUV.

Hope you are all happy and wish you a good night's sleep.

Gail

If there were more small acts of kindness I am sure the world would be a better place. Let us all make the effort to brighten the day for someone each day - just a smile, a hello, an offer of assistance. Little deeds pay big dividends.
Tonite when I got home from the hospital I found a plate of food sitting on my kitchen table for my dinner. What a thoughtful thing done by our friends. They knew I would be tired so all I had to do was nuke it and a nice homemade dinner. He is going to have surgery soon, so I will repay the favor to them!

I am glad that all of you enjoyed that message. I decided with all that has happen the past week to share the message with everyone so I wrote a blog and e-mailed to a few close friends and family. I feel it is important especially these days to be kind to others. I truly believe what comes around goes around and Pay it Forward. Here in the Northwest there have been many a time that I and my Hubby have gone into a Starbucks or bakery and went to pay for our coffee or pastry to find out it was already paid for. So, we just leave a $ 10.00 bill for the next person. A little act of Kindness goes a long way.

Let's try to keep it going all year. Hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday.

Thank you, SRIVER, for your very important message here! I cannot imagine such heartache as those are experiencing ---- after Friday's mass killings. No words can describe this. I know that our nation truly mourns. . .
The best message indeed is ---- LIVE A LIFE OF KINDNESS----- PLEASE.

Rejoice in each new day; it is a gift!

Good Afternoon:

The local fire department reps came by today and installed smoke and carbon monoxide detectors all throughout the house. Whew! I didn't have any of either before today. Feel much safer now.

My left knee is on the mend and that is really great. My food has been pretty good and I got a new snack fix: cheerios, chex and 1/4-1/2 C of chex mix. Also, I've been eating a lot of salad, some fruit and home made vegetable bean soup. The soup is real comfort food.

Hope you are all doing well with your food and exercise.

Hugs for all,

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Good Morning:

Well, it's not even 10:30 am and I'm done with ALL my PT exercises for the day. Boy, does that feel good! My knee is getting better and my limp is not so pronounced. Woo Hoo!

Didn't get to the gym yesterday but I'm planning on going this afternoon. What are you all doing?

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Well said. I pray that this tragedy will open people's eyes to what is truly important in life, not fame and fortune but family and friends. If we could all remember that the world would certainly be a better place.
Hugs to all of you my Spark Friends. Spread those hugs and words of encouragement to others. Make a difference in the lives of those around you.

Pat

Let's keep those that have been lost these past few weeks to guns be in our prayers and thoughts.

Lets also try to help those who are in need and say a kind word at least once each day.

Lets open our hearts to those who just need someone to talk to.

Lets just take a moment to say I love you to our Love ones and friends.

Lets just slow down and hold that door for one moment longer to let someone in.

Lets just not stop doing it because the Holiday season is over but, continue it all year long.

Lets show each other that we all care and share the message of Hope & Love this Holiday Season by just being there.

I Hope my message to each of will be shared through out Spark and beyond. Lets stop the hurt and guns and lets heal as a Nation and remember those that have lost their lives too soon.

My Love to you all this Holiday Season. May it be one of Happiness and Love and Hope for our Nation to come together for Peace on Earth.
