Oh, I agree CopperPenny I would not let him in with a snake either. Would never let my sons have a snake when they were kids-hate them.
Rikki so sorry you have such a horrible roommate-hope you are able to get out of there soon. I agree with what someone else said, I would lock my room up when I am not there.
Karen got to come home from the hospital today. They are treating her with medication. She has several issues going on so praying that the medicine will help her. She sounded better this evening.
I spent the day shopping-mostly for the park, but bought 2 new "items" for our yard. DH got a new gator and I got a new flamingo. I will post pics when I get them out in the yard.
DH goes to see the surgeon tomorrow and hoping he gets his sling off-not sure that is good as he already uses it more than he should!!

Today was in the 60's so we raked the leaves & put them in the garden. It's fenced in so they'll stay there. We were told that covering it with leaves would keep the weeds out & help the soil at the same time. We'll see in the spring. Then we dug out the rocks I had surrounding where we'd had the nut bed & made 2 new small flower beds with them. After that we laid a storage door out so it'd be flat. Bill will make a new cellar door & 2 tops for the bird ststions. That helps keep the rain & snow out. after that we cam inside & I laid down for a hour nap. 3 hours later I woke up. Bill said I "needed" the rest! Gusse it was all that fresh air..

I've been a renter before & had several good people that I rented from. But i also had a few who like to come in when I wasn't there & go thru my things. One place I had a male Siamese ( I had permission to have him) and he took after the landlord. As far as I know he never came in again when I wasn't there! His wife told he what happened & said he was the nosy sort.

I'm done with buying also. Giving cash to half. I figure that I can't go wrong there.

My g-son stopped by late in the evening on Sunday to visit. His best friend had given him a boa snake. I wouldn't let him bring it into the house. Much as I love my g-son I hate snakes!

Hope everyone had a good & safe day!

Thanks, everyone. I let it be known today that logically, only she or the lady who cleans her house could have taken the cutting board, and she went on and on about how she pities me because I would believe that she would do such a thing. I kept repeating, "I just want my cutting board back...and the blanket...and everything else that was stolen from me." She swears now it's evil spirits left over from the last roommate. I read once that the first sign of a seriously disturbed mind is that everything is someone else's fault. This fits these two to a 't'. The man who moved out has now found some spiritual scamster who has convinced him that he doesn't really exist, and that nothing he did in the past matters. So he is not responsible for stealing all my stuff. These people are insane.

So on a good note, I went to the store today and bought meat. I hardly ever buy meat, but I am trying to eat more calories because I'm in starvation mode, and also get more protein in my diet. I'm determined to do this right this time, no matter what it takes.

Riki - I am sorry to hear what you are going through. People are mean and sick like Gail said. They some times can't help it. But, to make up stories that little creatures take them is dumb. I hope that you fine a nice place soon. you are in my prayers. I have had roommates like that before too. I ended up putting locks on my bedroom door and putting everything inside. Something to think about. Please take care and be safe.

Well, we are back to rain and cold. It is 50 today and is to start to rain. We went 90 days with no rain this summer and now we are making up for it. It really isn't that bad here in the Northwest. I really enjoy it. Never really use an umbrella that much.

Well, I am off to the sewing room to get the kids blankets sewn up and then start on the grocery bags and side bag for my Uncles walker. Will start baking in an other week to get that ready to ship.

Hope everyone is having a great week.

Rikki:

I'm so sorry you are going through all of this. Some people are ill; they are kleptomaniacs. That's no excuse for their behavior and they can hurt a lot of people. It sounds like this is what your roommate might be. It's heartbreaking that you lost so much that was dear to you. You are right; the best thing is for you to get out of there and on with your life. I hope that your circumstances change very soon so that you can make the move.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Sandy, I would have him arrested for grand theft after he sold all that stuff! I have a bad situation myself. I am in a bad financial situation and live with a roommate who steals from me. She acts like she's so wonderful, but things only go missing when she's alone in the house. I am trying so hard to save money to leave. Thought I would be out Dec. 1st, but turned out the place I was going to move was occupied by drunks. I am at my wits end. She has this obsession with Cuisineart. I have a nice Cuisineart cutting board I love, and I always wash and put it back into my room as soon as I use it. Yesterday, I used it, washed and put it away, and then went out to water my plants. Today, I went to use it and it's gone. I searched the entire house and it's just gone. She keeps saying supernatural creatures called "pogglies" take these things, but that's just BS. The thing that broke my heart the most was an antique wool blanket that belonged to my mother that just disappeared. I've lost a couple of pairs of flip-flops, which is strange, because she doesn't wear flip-flops, and all sorts of other things. The roommate who lived here with us when I first moved in stole too. He went through all my stuff in the garage and stole a bunch of it. It's making me insane! I hate a thief.

Yes, Gail good renters are hard to find and landlords love to keep them!! My son took over after the renter from hell and rented the house for 3 years and then bought it from me. Let him use most of his rent as a down payment and he did all the repairs and we didn't charge him rent while he did that so it was a win-win for both of us!
Sandy sounds like you will be busy if you are doing decorating and sewing. Hope you soon find out how your daughter is doing. That has to be a worry.
We couldn't find out anything about DH's daughter until about 6 tonite when our DIL called to update us-see my blog for more details. Hoping tomorrow we will know what the dr's plan to do-don't know if she needs stents or bypass surgery. I would imagine she will need one or the other.
I didn't get my to-do list done today, but made a dent in it and will continue on it tomorrow and the things I had already planned for Wed. It is a moving target-ha ha. Felt good because I got my Christmas cards done today and made copies of my pics so now can work on the cards I plan to send. We do cards for pretty much everyone where we live, but don't mail them-we have our own mailboxes in the clubhouse so that works great. So many expect a picture of Abbie every year so had to take care of that. I think her picture is on a lot of refrigerators!
Well, gotta get my beauty sleep-have to be up at 6 am to get my walk in before we head to breakfast as we have to get back here-finally have the appliance repairman coming to check out my icemaker. Woo Hoo. Maybe I will be back in business soon. I imagine he will need to order parts but at least it is something. It has been broken since Feb!!!!

Finally got some extra money and got to go dig at the Goodwill Bargain Barn on Black Friday. Two hours later, I thought my arms were going to fall of, my shoulders and back hurt so bad, but it was worth it. Got some clothes, two pairs of nice sandals, and a ton of other stuff. Only spent a few cents over $25, which is great for me, because I tend to go crazy in there. Luckily, I went late, so it closed before I could spend more. I've been known to go at 10 in the morning, break for lunch, then go back and dig some more. I haven't had any spare money lately, so this was like Christmas for me. I'd much rather do this than fight the retail crowd.

Gail - People like your son are hard to come by. Property Mgr. love them when they get them and try to keep them around as long as they can as they don't know when or if they will ever get another.

Pat - Luckily my renter wasn't that bad. He just did a lot of stupid things. He said he paid someone $ 100.00 to clean the house. I told him I get my money back as there was food on the wall and cupboards. The inside the cupboards, ect. were still dirty. Even DH asked him how could you shower with all that mold in the shower. He really had no answer. Anyways, like I said most of it was really stupid. If he hadn't stolen all the furniture he would of gotten more money back. out of $ 2700.00 he got $ 100.00. I also had to paint two rooms because the of the big black marks that went across two walls in one room and the other room had ink all over one third of the wall and all over a desk.

Well, I went to the store today and got out the Christmas decorations out and started to decorating the house. I am going to start sewing my gifts for our son tomorrow so I can mail them next week. We still have not heard from our daughter back in Maryland since Sandy went through. We don't have any other number for her but, we are going to have our son call his Mother to see if she has heard from her.

Hope everyone is having a great week.

Sandy and Pat:

Stories like yours makes me understand something. When my son was in medical school he rented an apartment downtown. The landlord never raised his rent. One day, when he was talking to me on the phone he excused himself to answer the door. When he got back on the phone he told me, "It's unbelievable. I just called to tell the manager that the dishwasher stopped working and already they've sent someone to have a look at it." Come to find out that the reason they took such good care of him and never raised his rent was because he always paid on time and kept a clean and undamaged apartment.

Well, friends, winter has come to Madison. It is now 15 F. The good news is that it will be a clear day.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Sandy we rented out my home and I too had the renter from hell. I could go on for days about him-ruined a new dishwasher and microwave, broke the new toilet loose from the floor, destroyed the electric to the garage which he left totally full of trash and an old car (only got rid of it because DH had a friend who owned a junk yard since we didn't have a title!), spilled something all over the new carpet, left us with a $900 water/sewer bill, and owing us 6 mo rent as it took us that long to legally get him removed and he too had more people living than was on the lease!!!! I will NEVER be a landlord again. I feel so sorry for you but hang tough lady.

Thank you everyone for your support. The renter even inform us that he had gone by the house and looked at the new gate we had to replace that his dog destroyed. When I sent the e-mail back i also informed him that he is now trespassing and I have notify the Police department in California. He also had his Mother living with him but, she wasn't on the lease. He said she wasn't. But,when DH was taking to him on the phone, before he sent the e-mail, DH said he yelled to his Mom and said "Mom when did you stay at the house." So, now she is living at his new place. Anyways, he really is not very bright. I have already spoken to an Atty. and he said not to worry. I got a good night sleep last night.

The sun was out today but, it was only 43 degrees. But, it was a beautiful day. I thank all of you for your support. Sorry that I carried on.

I hope all of you have a really wonderful week.

Sandy, with all that your renter stole and destroyed I'm surprised that he got anything back at all. I think your answer to him (don't contact me anymore) was probably the best you could have done under the circumstances. When I was in middle school my mom owned and rented out 4 apartments. Her tenants weren't too, too bad...but then again, none of them were great, either. Just seems that some people have no respect for other people's belongings, though I'm sure they'd be plenty ticked off if you messed with theirs. emoticon

This week or next I've got to wrap my Christmas presents and box them up so that I can take them to the post office to mail before the middle of next month. I hate standing in line at the post office even more than I hate shopping so I'm always happiest if I can get it taken care of before the lines get too long.

There was much rejoicing!

Sandy: I am so sorry you are going through this mess. Try to get your mind off this problem with the renter by keeping your mind engaged by reading, doing puzzles, watching a good movie...anything that works for you.

Pat: Belated Happy Anniversary. So glad you had such a good time.

Val: When I bought gifts for the family I would do what you do....get them throughout the year so that I didn't have to face the rush. I wound up spending less and never had to face the crowds. I really dislike shopping.

Had a rough day yesterday and did sleep much last night. My Renter is giving me a hard time as he is not happy with what he got back and is not threatening me with legal action. My DH had spoken to him and explain that I was sleeping as I wasn't feeling good. But, that he would talk with me and that we would get back to me no later than the next day. Well, the renter couldn't wait and sent me a nasty and threatening e-mail. I told him to not contact me again since he want to take me to court. I just couldn't believe it. He took and sold a Antique rod iron donning room table, 2 New Umbrellas with stands, New Bristol set, New 6 piece cushion set, 6 piece patio set with bench and new extra large pot with plant. That is only what he took that is not that damage his dog did or he did. He also took out the smoke detectors which we never found. So, if my house caught on fire while he was living in it, I my not of been able to have collected from the insurance company due to the fact there were no smoke detectors in the home. He got me so upset. I have pictures and witness thank goodness.

Sorry, I went off on a rant. Well, I am going to go to bed and try to get some sleep. Love you all. Have a great week everyone.

I relaxed my eating just a tad today to celebrate our anniversary. We went out to eat with 4 other couples to celebrate our anniversary. We went to Outback and I had their grilled chicken cobb salad with the tangy tomato dressing on the side. However, they brought us dessert as a special treat for our anniversary and I did eat a couple of bites-it was ice cream with hot fudge sauce.
We came back here and played cards afterwards and what a riot. We had to adjust the rules a bit to play with 10 but it was a fun time. Our friend, Lin, had brought a pineapple upside down cake so we served that afterwards and again I had a couple of bites. Now I have to be good and get back on the bandwagon. I felt if I didn't indulge a little, I would feel deprived and I haven't gone over my calories so hopefully it won't upset things.
I have had a marvelous day.

Hi:

I finally got my butt out of the house by 11:30am this morning and went to exercise. My left knee is better, but I'm still pretty achy. The whirlpool at the gym seems to help so I may go in tomorrow.

This morning I decorated two vases with Christmas ribbons and decorations. I've been giving my neighbors flowers for Christmas and found I can do something for a fraction of what it would cost on Teleflorist with just a bit of effort. I buy some vases at the thrift store, decorate them and then buy a few bouquets and divvy up the flowers. There is a lady in the floral department at one of the supermarkets who trained in NYC for 5 years. Her floral arrangements are BEAUTIFUL. She arranges the flowers in the decoated vases I bring , and adds a fern and some baby's breath. The final product is really something very special. She doesn't charge me for this; I just buy the flowers.

I also got it into my head to buy a lot of the stuff I'm going to put into my Christmas baskets. I give one basket to each good friend. As for my best friend, I'll buy her a leather handbag. For my family I just write checks and I'm done. The only thing left to do is make some pate; two friends really love the stuff.

I've been taking it easy this weekend and will go easy on myself in the week ahead. I'm trying not to pack too much in to each day.

Hope you are all doing well and are at peace with the world. Such terrible times we are enduring.

Hugs for you all,

Gail

Enjoy each day.

I buy my birthday and Christmas presents throughout the year. I'll see something that's a great deal or that just says to me "this would be a great present for so-and-so" and I'll just go ahead and buy it. That has worked well for me for many years and it kind of negates the need to deal with things like Black Friday. Our supervisor at work took the day off to go shopping on Black Friday. I hope she and her sister were able to find some of the few real deals, but I'm not at all sad that I was "unable" to go with them. Now I just have to do the other things that I really hate to do each year...wrap my presents and stand in line at the post office to mail them. emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

Vali, I agree with you. We're getting covered with sale adds saying sales are beter than "Black Friday". I don't like crowds either. And I've really cut back on what I spend. When it hit me that the things I'd spent time & energy getting for someone couldn't even be remembered by them in 2 weeks time I decided it wan't worth it. So I pick one thing out that I know they enjoy. And if I can't decide there's always money. That always fits! I have friend that gets one Christmas paid for in time to go into dept for the next. It's so crazy. When the parents, both sets of grandparents, aunts/uncles & friends buy the child something they end up having so much stuff that they over load.. We were talking about it & I told her I was just giving one gift & why. She said she wasn't going to give so many - maybe just 4 or 5. It's a start.

My g-son & his wife are stopping by this morning on their way to Az. He's in the AF. Seems like he really grew up fast.

Well, have some picking up to do so hope everyone has a good & safe day. We had another hard frost.

I was a little crazy as I did go out about 7:30 and was back home by 8:30 having gotten what I went for. I went to Home Depot for LED net lights for the park, Belks for a purse for me (got 2) and Tractor Supply for salt for our water softener.
Vicky & I worked from before 10 to welll after 4 on the park. We put out the shepard hooks we had refurbished and put the birdhouses on them that we have been buying at yard sales, thrift stores or flea markets. Then we got all the fall decorations down and put into tubs and back into storage. After that we stopped for a few minutes for a bite of lunch and then right back at it pulling out the Christmas decorations and starting to get them put out. We got about halfway done today and hope to finish our part tomorrow. We took the boxes to the volunteers who are going to take care of the light poles, and the fences. Hopefully by this time next week or before the park is totally decorated!!!

I'm sorry to hear about your DH's aunt. I hope that she is able to leave this life without having to suffer. Please give DH an extra hug on my behalf. I know that losing someone you care about is never easy to deal with. Even when your head knows that it's time, your heart is almost never up to speed with it.

I had to work today but I wouldn't have gone to the mall even if I hadn't been working. I absolutely hate big crowds, especially when I have to go shopping. And from what I've been hearing, the Black Friday deals aren't even that good anymore. Retailers have better sales throughout the year and Black Friday is really mostly a scam these days. You can get a really great deal on (whatever) if you're one of the 5 or 10 lucky shoppers who were stupid enough to camp out in line all night and got it before it sold out. I'm sorry but as much as I like to save money, I will never, ever stand in line for more than about half an hour in the hopes of getting a really great deal. My time and my sanity are worth much more than what I can possibly save by being OCD about shopping on the busiest shopping day of the year. (If I have insulted anyone who did hang out in line overnight, I apologize. I'm just telling you how I feel about it personally.)

I hope that you all have a really great Thanksgiving. My in town relatives were both out of town, one was in Austin with his mom and the other was in Boston with their daughter's family. So I just hung out with my kitties and got some extra rest to make up for what I'd missed earlier in the week. Finished a book I'd been reading on my Kindle and did not one lick of housework. (It was a holiday, after all...) Not sure what I'm going to do this weekend except that I will NOT be doing it at work. I hope you all have a great weekend.

There was much rejoicing!

When out this morning and did a long work-out. Everything was really good. My Aunt cooks everything with very little sugar as my Uncle has one Kidney and has watch what he eats. Everything was really nice.

We did get some bad news when we got home. DH's Aunt, who is 97, is going on hospice as she is not eating and she is starting to shut down. We got to she her when we were down in San Diego. We knew then that was probably the last timed. She only weights 88 lbs and doesn't feel like eating much. Her sister passed away about a year ago that lived with her. She told me that she misses her and everyone. She is the last of DH's older family still living. I just hope that she goes with no pain. It is kind of sad but, I am so thankful for the time that I have been able to spend with her and gotten to know her. I think DH is going to take it hard when she goes as he was really close to her.

We are not going to do much the rest of the weekend do to the Black Friday Shoppers. I stay away from all of that. I get it all done through out the year or on-line. most of it I make. Just can't believe that Christmas is almost here.

Hope that all of you have a wonderful and safe weekend.

I hope all of you have had a wonderful, blessed Thanksgiving.
I am thankful that I made it thru the day without totally blowing my diet. I did have a slice of sugar free cheesecake but had decided early on that I would indulge today.

Gail that was wonderful news that you have managed to get both of the storage units cleaned out and get rid of another big batch of books. Then to top it off you are going on another mini-vacation (breather). I hope you are able to relax and get lots of much needed rest.
Darla I hope things work out and you are able to celebrate with your friend. Belated birthday wishes. Sounds like you had a great day.
Sandy I hope the rain has let up and you are getting a bit of sunshine. I could not live in the NW because just a couple of weeks of mostly gray days and I get all out of sorts!!! I love it out there in the summer when it is so hot everywhere else, because it is cool and even the mist is nice but gray all the time is not for me.
I have been busy but happy to report that we got the pansies planted. That was 12 flats total and a flat of dianthus. I need to get another 6 or 7 flats but hoping for better weather. This has been an unusual month-we have been mostly gray and cooler than normal but no rain here.
We went to the market on Mon morning early and it was quite nippy out. I wanted to get some veggies as I am making green beans for Thanksgiving and a sugar free cheesecake. I have to run to the store tomorrow-I bought graham cracker crusts on Mon BUT when I went to get them this evening-they were invaded by ants! emoticon Tomorrow I am calling the exterminator!!!
We are going to friends cousin's home for dinner Thursday.

Gail, hooray for you!! Getting through one of the storage sheds is a major accomplishment and now you'll have a nice bit of money that you can save or spend on the things that YOU want to spend it on. Good luck getting through the second storage shed and then all of the boxes in your basement. You'll make it through everything sooner or later, and then you can finally have the simplicity that I know you're after. It will feel so, so good when you get there because you will always know just what it cost you in time, effort and aggravation.

I've got a strange little work week this week. I'm working Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Thursday is obviously the holiday and it's not one of the ones I'm working this year, and my supervisor asked me if I wanted to take today off so that I don't end up losing a day of my vacation time at the end of the year. The company that bought my company does not allow us to carry over nearly as much accumulated time off as we used to be able to and since I earned it, I don't want to lose it. (I earn 9.2 hours per paycheck because I've been with the company for 11 years.) I've got a few things around the place that I'm going to try to accomplish today, and I'll have a much better chance of accomplishing them if I shut the computer down and get on with it. I hope that you all have a really great day.

There was much rejoicing!

emoticon I'm out of the second storage unit! Not only won't I have a large bill to pay each month, but I learned yesterday that I will be getting a security deposit back. I didn't even think of that.

Yesterday I went to the bank to get the "lost keys" problem out of the way for the safe deposit boxes. Thankfully, I found the original will which I have to bring to the attorney. Evidently, the one I have at home is a copy. Snags seem to crop up from nowhere. Someone ought to write a book on things to set up and do before a loved one dies. It would save the living a heap of aggravation and trouble. It never crossed my mind that so many difficulties would arise.

Today I'm running several errands and tomorrow I'll save for fixing the cranberry relish and pumpkin pie. I'm never worried about dessert, but I can eat my way into oblivion with the "salt and pepper" stuff if I don't watch what I'm doing.

Sending you all a big hug,

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Hello Friends,
Gail- You are doing so amazing getting all that stuff out of your house. I know it has been so hard on you since you lost your husband and I am proud of you for getting so much doine and glad you taking mini vacations you need that!

I had a wonderful birhday. my son Chris and I went to church and my daughter in law Catilin met us there but Chris and I left early and went went to a theater here in San Antonio to see Wreck It Ralph about the old arcade game it was really a good funny movie! And it was so cool becasue you could order food and so I ate a bacon cheeseburger and fries and had a Diet Coke while I watched the movie so that was pretty cool. my granddaugher sang Happy bithday to me on the phone and when I told her I am 48 she said you are really old gram gram! She had her 5th birthday the next day so I sang Happy birhday to her too. Tomorrow is my daugher in law's 26th birthday and my son is 28. Erin my daugher will be 30 March 23rd so she put something funny about my birhtday on facebook and I wrote back and said daughters who are turning 30 really shouldn't say anythinh about their Mothers being old and she wrote back and said that was child abuse! lol My kids are so crazy and funny! Chris and Catilin are going to Amarillo for Thanksgiving and Christmas but I have a new woman friend here in San Antonio and she has invited me to one of her freinds houses for Thanksgiving Day if is all works out. I like to get up early on Thanksgiving to watch the Macy's Parde! That has been going on over 50 years now! I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving and i hope all of us can get our Christmas started early too! Take care everyone. Darla.

Good Morning:

Today the guy from the Friends of the Library is coming over to pick up about 20 boxes of books and magazines. That will free up some space in the garage. Tomorrow my friend Becky is coming and we'll clear out the rest of the storage unit. After that I'm going to work on clearing out the living room; it's awful with boxes and boxes strewn all over the place. In order to get stuff out I'll need to get rid of more stuff from the basement. More books, CDs, etc. will be going to charities and the 2nd hand book store.

I've planned another trip for early December and it will be like the one I took in late August. I'll be bringing about 7 books and will just read and relax in the shade and listen to the surf. I've got to do this every few months because my situation takes a heavy toll. I'm still not in the place for a "vacation-vacation" where I can have a good time, see new things and enjoy the company of others. This getaway is purely for my mental health.

Did I mention that my left knee has been really hurting for over a week from the time I stepped off the elliptical cross-trainer? I've been doing the elliptical and the stationary bike since as my exercise, and not every day. When I put weight on my left leg the knee has been hurting, so I've been trying to keep of it. I've gone to the gym 10 times in Nov. as of yesterday. Not too shabby. Yesterday I also went in the hot tub and the heat did help. It's considerably better now and it might be good to put a heating pad on the knee. It appears to be the muscle, not the bone or cartilage. I must have pulled or torn a muscle. Anyway, it sure is good to be on the mend.

Sending you all hugs,

Gail

Sandy: A big CONGRATULATIONS on your son making the Dean's List. It's a big thing and you have every right to be very proud. Glad things are settling down for you. A long trip is bound to tire you out.

Pat: It sounds like things are getting back to normal at home. So glad Bill can finally get back to bed. What a relief! What is the problem with your granddaughter? Is she ill? Will certainly keep her in my prayers.

Enjoy each day.

Today has been one of those funny days. We slept in our bed last night for the 1st time since surgery for DH. I even left the alarm off and didn't ge tup till almost 8 am! I left DH sleeping and went for my walk. By the time I got back, it was almost 9:30 and he was up and waiting for me to get breakfast!
I managed to get some of the pansies planted today and Vicky & I made a plan to get them in Mon so hopefully by Mon eve they will all be in the ground!!!
My son called about 11 to tell us about our granddaughter. Now I get to worry about her and us so far away! Not much I can do from here and by the time I would get there, the crisis would likely be past so Grandma is depending on prayers!
Tonite we went to the clubhouse to a dance-of course we didn't dance, but had a good time listening to the music and watching everyone else dance. However, we were party poopers and came home after a couple hours.

Thank you Pat. It feels good to be home. You don't realize how tired you really are till a few days after you have been home. We finally went to the store today and got food in the house and got food for Thanksgivings. We are going to my Aunt and Uncle's for Thanksgiving. Aunt is doing most of the cooking but I am making the pumpkin pie and candy yams.

It was good to see our son. He moved into a new place while we were there so, we got to help him a little. He made the deans list. Which made me proud. He thought nothing of it but, I brought the letter home with us and put it in a file I keep on the kids.

Well, I hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Sandy it is good to hear that you made it home safely and got everything done that you wanted to do and saw everyone. Now you can relax and we will keep our fingers and toes crossed that your home sells quickly.
Val I hope you have a better day and a relaxing weekend.
Gail I am a confirmed Crystal Light drinker-some folks like it, some don't. I love the green tea versions-peach mango and the raspberry. DH likes their margarita. It tastes like the real thing but without all the calories!
I got to do my favorite thing today-hit the thrift stores. Ok maybe I like the community yard sales a little more but they are both way up there on my shopping list-ha ha. I snagged several items to use in my garden art for the park. I am going to be one busy gal. Today I found out another volunteer is quitting. She & her hubby always decorated the front of the park and she said no more-health issues so now I have to find some "eager" volunteers to help us get it decorated after Thanksgiving. I didn't need that but will deal with it. Vicky & I have decided we are going to decorate it differently this year-a little simpler but think it will look really nice.
Abbie went to the groomer today which is why I was killing time in the thrift stores while she was getting beautiful. We were with friends and ate lunch at Subway (I had a the grilled chicken salad) and late McDonalds (I had the grilled southwest chicken salad). I don't normally go to fast food but think I made decent choices.

Good evening;

I didn't go to the gym again today but that's OK. Right now I've come to realize I need to give myself more time to relax. I slept for 5 hours yesterday afternoon and another 7 hours or so last night. My body is screaming for sleep and R&R.

The food wasn't good last week but I'm hoping to do better. It's very hard for me to drink cold water in the cold weather, but plain tea (no sugar) is just the thing in the winter. What do you all do?

Gail

Val: So sorry you had a horrible day.

Okay Pat, you did speak up first and fair's fair. Just remember what Gail said about how I was going to have to wait at least a year for her to finish up her own stuff, that way you won't be too disappointed if she doesn't show up at your place for a little while... emoticon

I had a perfectly awful day at work today, but at least it's over and tomorrow is Friday. I'm going to go start a batch of lasagna cooking in my crock pot and then do all of the getting myself prepared for tomorrow kind of stuff. I hope that all of you have a fabulous Friday.

There was much rejoicing!

Evening All,

We made it home late last night. It was a 12 hour drive and we were tired. It really felt good to sleep in our own bed. It was a great trip and was able to get everything done that we wanted to and able to see everyone we wanted to also.

Thank you all for your support. It sounds like you all have been very busy. Can not believe that next week is Thanksgiving. DH & I went down today and donated can food to the local food bank. I have now started my list to get everything ready to make my baskets to give to local families for Thanksgivings.

Well, I hope everyone has a great weekend. Stay safe and warm.

Val-I think I put in for Gail's help 1st so you have to get in line- emoticon .

Penny it sounds like you are almost ready for winter. Good for you for getting things done before it gets really bad out.

Gail-one of the best pieces of advice I got after DH#1 passed away was to stay put, make no major moves or anything for at least a year so that I could get my bearings and get past the worst of the grieving process. I think that was the best advice I got because I met people who did things in haste and regretted it later. You are right, it is often better to stay put because it is cheaper in the long run. We always shut off rooms we didn't use and didn't heat or cool them and it did help with the utilities. Even now, I don't heat or cool my spare bedroom unless we have company!
I am afraid I didn't get my pansies planted-today was overcast, damp and yukky and I just could not push myself out there this afternoon. I plan to work tomorrow morning after my walk and before my company arrives at 11. Wish me luck!!!

I'm trying to keep up, I've skimmed through the posts, but once again, I've fallen behind. I've been too busy at work and hubby is on the computer for hours at night when I get home, so I don't get here as often as I should.

It does look like everything is moving along for everyone. Not a lot of changes, but continuations, I think????

Thanksgiving is next week. Any good plans? We will go to NH to celebrate with our DD, DSIL and grandson. If all works with no changes, our DS will be able to join us later in the day. He has to work earlier in the day, but can drive down in the afternoon. I'm glad he'll be will us.

Laurie

Gail,
Also around here friends that downsized, find their
monthly expenses are now more than they paid before...
(for lawn & snow care etc. plus some extras).

Remember the old saying? (Slow and steady wins the race.)

You are doing fantastic, good for you..Nan

Good Morning:

Penny: In answer to your question, no, I've no plans to move. My house is all paid up and in excellent condition, the location is great, and I love my neighbors. Further, it would cost me more to rent a very nice one or two bedroom apartment in a good area, and I'd have to pay something like $80/month for indoor parking. The house is too big for me, but I keep it very clean and neat so it is comfortable and pleasant. I am a minimalist, however, and look forward to getting rid of lots of things. Right now almost all the wall space consists of floor to ceiling bookcases. Less is better.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

We had a hard frost last night so today we put all the hanging pots, the pots that sat on the steps & the container pots all in the basement, Then, as the wind wasn't blowing, we burnt the pile of pruneing stuff that we'd piled on top of the chestnut bed we'd sprayed 7 cut down. It feels good to get that out of the way. Still have to do the leaves.

Gail, are you planning on staying where you are or do you have plans to move to a smaller place? You really seem to be on top of things & are going pretty fast on getting rid of stuff.

As I smell of smoke I'm getting in the shower. Having one bathroom really sucks, you know?

Good Afternoon:

Hope your day is going well. I was going to take yesterday off but my SIL came by to help and for a few hours we went through several boxes.

This morning I went to the gym and did 20 minutes on the elliptical cross-trainer. Yeah! Then there was the trip to the bank with 3 huge boxes of old financial records for them to shred. Afterwards there were trips to 2 books stores to buy Vic's old magazines and DVDs. Finally, there was a trip to the attorney to sign some papers. I got home and crashed for a while. My friend Ann came by with lunch this afternoon and now she is helping prepare about 8 shopping bags/boxes of things for me to bring to the Hospice Thrift shop.

I decided to "bundle" my internet, phone and cable tv services. By doing this I will save about $70/month. That's a lot. Well, the old phone company forgot to take the HOLD off my account and because of that I they would not let the new company move my phone number over. Ladies, it to 7 phone calls to get things straightened out but I finally did. I caught myself steaming with frustration. But then I grabbed a pen and started to write HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, all the way down the page. OK, it's a bother and nuisance, but in the scheme of things it's nothing, right?

Enjoy the day and smile.

Gail

Nan: So glad all went well at the dentist appointment.

Val: I have so much to do I don't think I'll have time to drop by for over a year!

Pat: You do love those garage/yard sales!

Enjoy each day.

Pat, I think that first Gail should make a stop at my place to help me throw out stuff that I really don't need. She seems to be much better at it than I am. emoticon

I hope that you have all had a peaceful holiday. I got a lot done at work because doctors don't like to have to come to the hospital on holidays. (I'll pay for it tomorrow, though. emoticon )

Thank you to any members of the group who are veterans. Anyone who volunteers to put his or her life on the line if necessary so that I won't have to do it myself deserves a huge emoticon from all of us.

There was much rejoicing!

Gail my Canadian friends sent me that same joke and I loved it. Just too funny. I am so happy to hear you made such progress and am sure with your friends' help and your determination, you will have that storage unit empty before the end of the month. You continue to move forward and before long it will be done. Maybe you want to come down south and help me plant flowers-ha ha.
I think my pansies are like your boxes-never ending! What was I thinking buying 8+ flats the other day. Each flat has 18 plants in it and I still have almost 6 left to plant. I hope by Wed or Thur I have them all in the ground as I am getting tired of watering them every day to make sure they stay alive. I will work on them tomorrow after we get back from the dr.

I am an Aussie and we are familiar with chips (too familiar) and we generally share equally both American and English traditions.
However let me say generally I prefer English humour!
