Pat - I am so glad that all went well for your DH.

We have made it half way to California today. We had a rain storm part of the way and it made the drive a little hard. We are tried so I will make it short.

Wishing you all a Happy Halloween! emoticon

Popping in to say Hi to all and hope anyone who might be in the path of Sandy is prepared and not taking any unnecessary chances. Stay safe.
I have had a very busy Sunday and still not ready for tomorrow. We went to breakfast with Vicky, Sonny & their granddaughter this morning and then to church. We were back home before noon and then I got busy!! I should have done more yesterday but soooo needed the break. I had given DH a haircut this morning so he should be good for a few weeks and we won't have to worry about that right after surgery. After we got home from church, I go busy and made a BIG pot of vegetable soup. Since we are supposed to be quite cool a good part of the week, I thought that would taste good, was something I could eat, and easy to warm up!
I also got Abbie bathed so she is good for another week. DH ran the vacuum for me so that is done and for the foreseeable future I will have to do that!! I got the bathrooms cleaned and the dusting done so if folks pop in to visit the house doesn't look too bad. I still need to mop the kitchen before I go to bed though.
We have to be up quite early as we have to be at the hospital by 7. I will let you know how things go tomorrow.

Just a quick check-in running around today and doing last minute things for the trip. Getting my hair cut, picking up Rx, going to the Grocery store and finishing laundry. Then I will sit and watch the World Series and Sunday night Football.

Hope everyone has a great week and a safe and wonderful Halloween! emoticon

Good Morning:

I took yesterday off and boy did it feel good. After the gym I went to the grocery to pick up a few things. Once home I watched some TV and just relaxed. For the first time in a long time I made myself something to eat other than soup and sandwiches. My sil is coming over today and we'll do some work. I think I may take this week off. The following week my amazing friend will come back. The goal is to clear out the other storage locker some time in November so I don't have to pay for December or any other storage thereafter. That's a $200 month savings. Last week I got something from a monument company and it brought to mind the fact that I need to buy a monument for Vic's grave. In the Jewish tradition we put up the monument on the first year anniversary of the death, so I have some time to save up. I have no clue as to how much they cost and am bracing myself.

I'm hoping to visit my friend Celeste in November. Celeste, as you may recall, has stage 4 lung cancer. She has been ill with a secondary infection for a couple of weeks and could hardly talk when she left a message for me the other day. I spoke to her daughter yesterday and told her to find out when might be a good time. In early December I plan to take a trip somewhere to relax like I did in late August. It will be past the hurricane season and I understand business is very slow so the rates should be very favorable. I want to go someplace warm near the sea so that I can just veg with a few books. Again, I want to go alone to get away from obligations and cares.

Hope you all have a very special Sunday.

Gail

Pat: So glad Bill did so well Friday. You may be sure we were praying for him.

Val: It sounds like you and your mother had a good time and it seems she helped you so much. Hope you save some time for yourself to veg before your vacation is up.

Sandy and Nan: What have you been doing with yourselves the past couple of days?

New Members: WELCOME. It's always great to meet new people. I hope that you have great success with Spark.

Enjoy each day.

Gail - You are doing a great job. Keep up the great work.

Pat - Thank you. It is nice to know that I will be Missed. I will be in touch. Take care of your DH and yourself too.

Val - I am so glad that you had a wonderful time with your Mom. That whole thing with Wal-Mart was wierd. But, just saw a program all about Wal-mart and how they have been hit by the EPA for Billions of dollars in law suits do to environmental wrong doings. So, there could be something in there that could be making you sick.

Nan - It is always good to have you pop in.

emoticon back Miss Jean. We are here to help you make this journey. One or more of us is never far away and ready with words of encouragement.

Sandy-Glad to hear you are almost ready for your trip. Have a safe one and we hope you can catch up with us from time to time. We will emoticon while you are gone.

Val-sounds like Mom worked wonders for you. Doesn't it feel great to be all organized?? I got our storage area in our one Fl room all cleaned up and it looks so much better. I have a couple items we either need to sell or give away and it will be cleared out! emoticon
Enjoy your last couple days of vacation.

Gail- emoticon One storage unit totally cleaned out. That is fantastic and you can save that money going forward. I am happy to hear you now have the new furnace and won't have to worry about it failing this winter in the cold. Also it sounds like it could have been really dangerous so this is even better-too often we hear of tragic things happening from the carbon monoxide so glad to know that won't be a problem. You do have a monitor don't you???? How wonderful that you are getting help from the timeshare folks. I can just imagine what a dent those hours will make in going thru things. Before you know it, things are going to get a lot better. Even better news was hearing someone will help you sell some of this online. What a relief for you.

BH came thur things so well yesterday. I am glad of that as I worried it would really take him down just before surgery but think we will be good. We were up early this morning so we could go to a big community yard sale. I didn't buy anything for myself except one of the insulate tumblers but got quite a bit to use in the park gardens. I want to get pics of what I have done so far and there will be more more to come! We are relaxing this afternoon and plan to rest more tomorrow so that we are both well rested before surgery as I expect a rough few days in the beginning.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Gail, thank you for sharing your progress and all of your good news with us. It's so good to know that some things are looking up for you and that there are people there in Madison who are helping you. There is so much ugliness in the world these days and so many horrible people (though I've honestly hardly ever met any of them) that it's really nice to meet some of the wonderful ones and to know that you have met them, too. You'll get through all of this and have an organized house and life one of these days. Not sure when that will be, but I know that it will happen for you and I'm really glad that there are some wonderful people who are helping you to get there.

As for me, Mom left around 6:45 this morning to make the day long drive back to the Tucson area. We had a really wonderful visit and she helped me to accomplish some fantastic feats of organization here in the apartment. (You and my mom have that in common. emoticon ) My kitties were totally freaked out while she was here but I think that they might actually have gotten used to her if she'd been able to stay a few more days. They were getting very brave and coming awfully close to the terrifying stranger in the living room last night. emoticon emoticon

So now I have 2 more days of vacation that I'll most likely spend relaxing and finishing the last little bit of organizing (my bedroom) that's left around here. I hope that the rest of you have a really great weekend planned. We're finally getting some cool weather and it finally feels like fall. We should all try to get out and enjoy the last few "warm" days before winter descends on us.

There was much rejoicing!

Good Morning:

There has been so much turmoil in my life since Vic died and I've shed many tears. But these last few days have been so uplifting, so great, and I must share my joy and progress with you.

1. My car was repaired and the auto shop provided a free Enterprise rental. I just had to pay for gas. When I picked up my car on Thursday afternoon I was told AllState waived my deductible. Can you imagine?

2. Thursday and Friday my friends Ann and Becky and Becky's teenage daughter Amara helped me clear out one storage unit. It was completely vacant yesterday afternoon. Not only that but they helped me go through all the boxes and sort things so that I could save what I wanted, discard scores of empty boxes, sort books to be donated to the library and books to sell. Becky also helped reorganize my garage so that there is much more room and everything is in its place. We also discarded empty boxes from the basement and cleared a bit of space so that there is at least some room to turn around in one of the corners. Hey, it's a start.

3. I arranged for the central library service to pick up over 40 boxes of books next week. That will clear out a chunk of space in the garage.

4. I've been bringing bag-loads of old financial statements, purchase receipts, etc. to the bank for them to shred.

5. My friends raked my lawn and I brought six large bags of leaves to the lawn waste disposal site yesterday.

6. The timebank has come to my rescue again. First, two members have donated 70 hours to my account so I can "pay" other members to help me go through the stuff in the basement. My basement is loaded floor to ceiling with books, collections, music, exercise equipment and weights, DVDs, tools, etc. I want to sell virtually all of it. Second, one timebank member will help me sell things on line. I will give him a percentage of the profit. I've been looking for someone to help me with this until I can do it myself. Right now I"m so overwhelmed by all that I must deal with that I cannot think straight.

7. A couple of weeks ago I found some insurance policies in an old suitcase in the garage. The bank helped me send the information to the insurance companies and one notified me that there is a paid up policy my mom got for me when I was 1 year old. It's only a few hundred dollars, but it's something.

8. I've been selling books by the box-load to a used book store and have been getting some money for them. Since Vic had OCD, everything he read is in pristine condition. Also, most of what he bought was new; he never got to read them. That being the case the books are worth more. Also, this place takes DVDs. Last week I got $85. It's pennies on the dollar of what he spent, but at least it's something.

9. Last week the new furnace was installed and it is working very nicely. It's so comforting to know that I'm secure and without the possible danger of carbon monoxide leakage. The old furnace was 34 years old and a repair man from another company told me that could be a problem any time because there was a crack in the furnace. Any way, this new furnace has a 92% efficiency so my utility bills should be a lot less.

10. I continue to go to the gym for 20 minutes a day. All the lower back pain is gone and I have much more energy and stamina.

11. Every day I take stock of my blessings and am so thankful for my exceptional friends, the assistance of the timebank and the great progress I've made in just the last two months. I think of Vic every day and dream of him every night, but there is no sadness or loneliness. I'm not afraid to be alone and I'm never bored or in need of company. I'm content in my own skin. My friends here in Madison and you, my dear Spark friends, are always there for me to uplift me when I am down and share my successes and joys through this journey.

I'm going to take today off, but tomorrow my sil is coming to help me go through stuff.

Enjoy the weekend everyone.

Gail

Miss Jean - Nice to see you. You have been missed.

Thank you all for the encouragement. Just got word that my friends house sold in less than a month. emoticon So, I have a few things to do to fix on the house but, not as much as we thought. So, that is good news. We are almost packed and ready to go. Just have a little bit of wash to do and some cleaning. Will go to the Store on Sunday for a few things for the trip and pick up Meds on Monday and we are all set. Talk to our Son yesterday and he is so excited he is beside himself.

I will stay in touch as much as I can with the group. I might have to POST NOVEMBER A LITTLE EARLY as I will be on the road. Just so you all know that I haven't lost my mind completely.

Hope everyone has a great weekend! emoticon

Once again, it's been a while since I've visited and so much has been going on. I'm afraid I didn't take notes, so please forgive me if I forget something/someone.

Gail, you seem to be doing to so much and doing it so well. I can't imagine the way you've jumped in with both feet to get everything done like you have. I think you've been amazing.

Pat, I want to wish you and your DH loads of luck with all the procedures that are upcoming and with the non-diet you are on now. You seem very determined so I'm sure you'll stick to you. I hope it's easy to keep with it while at the hospital and not at home.

Linda, I hope that ankle heals quickly. Sounds like a bad sprain.

Sandy, big changes coming up for you. I hope it all goes well and I'm glad your results were what you were hoping for.

Vali, sounds like a great time for you and your mom. Sometimes stores can have that effect on me, too. It must be some product that you're not aware of that's near the area where you're looking or where you have to walk through to get to what you want. I'd stay away as much as possible if I were you. Sorry you had that reaction.

I'm not progressing as well as I'd like with my weight loss journey on my own, so I know I have to come back here and track my food again and visit with people and see how everyone else is doing if I'm going to be able to get back on track. I've been trying, but I definitely need help. I know I've been stressed here at work and I keep trying to force myself to relax, but the stress isn't going away. I have a new boss and boy, is she slow to learn so many things that are necessary to her job. Just as I feared, she's allowing me to do too many things for her and those things aren't part of my job description. Then when she does take something on, she doesn't think before she does it and I'll have to gently remind her that she really should have thought of this and maybe that before hand and now I have fix what she did.

Anyway, it's been a long couple of months and I don't need to spend all my afternoons in the garden and I can exercise again so I'm feeling more relaxed. Things are looking up. Gail, I also get very tired early in the evening and I have to fight to stay way until a decent time. Personally, I just have to pick up something to keep my hands busy, like my knitting, and that will keep me awake until 8:30 or so. I can pretty much stay asleep until 4:30 or so, but I have to get up at 5:00 every morning anyway for work and that's when I get up even on the weekends.

I'm going to stop at the drug store on my way home today and get some melatonin. That's supposed to help with sleep. Not that I have a problem falling asleep, but it's the staying asleep I've always had a problem with, so I thought that might be a good thing to have around. DH often falls asleep downstairs and then can't sleep when he does come up. He might want to try some as well, but only if I can get him to drag himself upstairs to begin with.

Laurie

Gail, the work getting rid of stuff is why I started just giving it away. The way i looked at it was that it wasn't doing me any good & was taking up space that I needed. We got rid of 2 storage sheds (now I can't think of a good reason that we had them!). Bill's still going thru the craft room but he's been giving stuff to another man (at the auction) who has a side job fixing & selling stuff. In looking around I just don't know why we got so much stuff that we just don't need. I was talking to some other ladies & they're saying the same thing. I guess it was a phase that we all went thru but now we're getting rid of the excess. I'd thought of having a yard sale but they're a lot of time & trouble to do no to mention time consuming. So it's better for us tto give it to those that can use it. I'm really thankful that we've found several who'll take it. I agree that it's like a sickness -- the more you get the more you want. I have a friend whose into "savings". If it's on sale she'll get it. And stick it in any space that she can find. Then it hit me --- I asked her it it was something she needed or just wanted. That it wasn't really a "sale" if she didn't need it. The look on her face was something -- she hadn't ever thought of that. Sometimes we can really be silly. But it does sound like you've gotten a lot of help getting rid of stuff & that's good.

I hope all those that are sick are getting better!

Gail, I just thought of something-in our area, there are several people who will list your items on E-Bay for you and do all that work and they take a percentage of the sale. If you have enough stuff to make it profitable for you and them, that might be a way to sell some things but take the pressure off of you. Maybe you can check it out and see if anyone does that in your area.
Sounds like you are really making progress. I know it will be a big relief if you can just get one of them emptied and depending on the weather, maybe you can start on the other one. It does sound like a horrible waste of money but no use crying over spilt milk. That sounds harsh, but it isn't meant to be, it is encourage you to let go and not be angry because if you let yourself you will really build up a lot of anger over this as time goes on. Get that empty chair out and give Vic a good lecture about all this and I bet you will feel better afterwards. I know that certainly helped me after my dear DH #1 passed away and left me with 2 teenage boys to raise and they were a handful. I was very angry and he could not help it, he hung on for 9 yrs to help me raise them so he really deserved better but we don't always think of that at the time we are suffering ourselves. (I hope my life will help you put this all in perspective).

Val so glad to hear that you and your mom are having a wonderful visit. Hope you are able to get organized with her help You are right, I would certainly stay out of that particular Wal-Mart! You must be allergic to something in there.

Sandy have a safe trip and here's to a succesful sale of your house.

Well, we met with the surgeon this morning and DH has his faithful sling that will be his companion for 5-6 weeks after surgery. Dr took his time explaining things to us so hope it goes well and we will just have to tough out the rough beginning-he told DH he isn't going to like him very much for a month or two but then he will be his good friend again! We have to get a special ice machine and take it to the hospital with us, but the medical supply was out today and I will have to pick it up tomorrow after his procedures and go get the meds he prescribed for pain and nausea after the surgery. Dr said to make sure that we have it on hand and to not have to go get it.

This afternoon poor DH is preparing for the colonoscopy and endoscopy tomorrow morning. I wish we had been able to schedule this before now but we could not so have to live with it as it is. Now if this will just give us some answers to all of his tummy problems that would be great! Have to be at outpatient surgery at 8 so I will have to walk at 6 am! This is killing me having to walk early but if I don't do it then, I know I will not do it so........I set the alarm and off I go.

Off I go to get some laundry done. Have a wonderful afternoon everyone.

Pat

Good Morning:

I'm so proud of myself. I did exercise on the elliptical trainer when I went to the gym yesterday. It's really good keeping up my streak. I hope I can see it through during the winter when the weather gets really nasty.

Some friends are coming today to help me clear out the storage unit. Yesterday we brought 4 unassembled bookcase units back to the store for a refund. Since I didn't have a sales receipt they would only give me $60. I'm not sure exactly what Vic paid for them but three started out at $150 each and the fourth started at $50. I was going to donate them to the hospice thrift shop but my friend told me to hold off and try to sell them on Craig's List. For now they are in my garage.

Pat: You are absolutely right in your suggestion. I need to look at the empty boxes as a blessing since I don't have to rummage through them. Also, I need to look at whatever monies I get for things is more than nothing, which is what I have before. The thing that gets me down is the enormity of money he spent over the years when I was clipping coupons and shopping at thrift stores. There is nothing wrong with thrift stores; it's just that it certainly wouldn't have been necessary to do the last four decades had Vic set aside for me even a fraction of what he spent on things. He was truly ill...a hoarder with OCD. I never thought I'd be saying this but at least his OCD was such that he labelled everything and had everything neat as a pin in it's place. Could you imagine what I'd be going through if everything were in chaos?

On another matter, you may be sure you and your husband are in my prayers. Keep the faith.

Val: So good to hear that you and your mom are enjoying yourselves. Are you still working while she is here or are you on vacation?

Sandy: You will be in my thoughts. Have a safe trip to California and good luck with the sale of the house. I understand new housing sales were up 27% last month nationwide, so your prospects of a sale will be much better than they would have been a year ago.

Sending you all hugs,

Gail

Gail, maybe you should try gathering up the stuff into "parcels." Then you could advertise a mixed parcel of this for this much money, another mixed parcel of this type of stuff for this much money, etc, and see if anyone bites. You never know who might be interested in a bunch of stuff that's somewhat related and if nobody bites, well you were going to give it away anyway, right?

My mom and I have been having a nice time together, and also getting some things done. We went to the big super Wal Mart this afternoon to look at shelves that we can put together so that we can organize my, um, stuff. While we were in Wal Mart I started sweating and not feeling at all well, but I felt much better after we left. Later we went back to the same Wal Mart to buy those shelves, and again I started sweating and feeling really bad. Mom said that my face and neck were realy red, too. But after we left I felt much better almost immediately. I don't know what it is about that particular Wal Mart, but I will not be going back there any time in the foreseeable future. emoticon

So aside from feeling icky at Wal Mart Mom and I have really been enjoying our time together and also getting a few things done around my place. (Mostly organizing, which I'm not always very good at.) She'll be leaving on Saturday so who knows how much we can get done with two more days together. (Hopefully most of it will be fun and none of it will involve stores that make me feel sick...)

I hope the rest of you are having a really great week. Talk to you again soon.

There was much rejoicing!

Gail, look at those empty boxes as a blessing-you don't have to look thru them or deal with anything other than getting rid of them!!!! I think it is wonderful the progress that you are making. I think of you often and wonder how it is going. I know if you can get this one cleaned out that it will be a relief for you and a savings. I am happy to hear that you have help. Any work goes faster with a friend to talk to and lean on. My friend, Vicky, and I are leaning on each other thru our hubbies health issues. Hopefully we can get them patched back up!
I am really getting nervous over DH's tests and surgery-not sure why. I usually keep it together but he has been feeling so bad lately I just pray that this is going to help him. Please keep him in your prayers.

Gail - You are the energizer bunny. I am really proud of you and how much you have done. You should be really proud of yourself too.

Nan - Your day out with your friends sound like a lot of fun.

Pat - Your Cardinals played one heck of a game. I can't believe that the Giants came from behind like that and won. Your Birthday/Anniversary celebration sounded like a lot of fun. I hope your DH is doing good before his surgery.

Liz - Nice to see you joining in on the conversation.

Well, I have about 6 more days till we leave to go to California. Talked to the Realtor today and he got the keys from the renter. The house is in pretty good shape just need to do some touch painting and a couple of other things to do. But, the house is on the market. Had a friends house go on the market this month in California, Who lived next door, and it is already sold. So, keep your fingers cross and say a prayer that mine does the same.

Hope everyone is have a great week.

Thank you all so much for your support. Today my friend and I made so much progress and I'm confident I'll have one storage unit cleared before Nov. 1. Whew! That's $100/month savings. I'm going to the gym now. If I have enough energy I'll exercise for 20 minutes; if not, I'll just relax in the hot tub. I'll be picking up my car this afternoon, but other than that I'm done for the day.

Sending you all hugs,

Gail

Nan: Even if I don't get a word in edgewise, I'd still like to be at lunch with you and your friends. Sounds lovely.

Enjoy each day.

Happy Wednesday;

Well, yesterday didn't turn out the way I expected, but it was a good day. My friend and sil came over and we went to the storage facility. We made two trips to the recycling with cardboard. That's right; Vic had boxes and boxes in the storage facility that were empty. Imagine paying to house them. We also brought about 16 boxes of stuff that had been in the storage unit. They were filled with items from Vic's dad's apartment. There was so much junk, but there were also things that had some modest value. I'm beginning to see that I could spend the rest of my life on Ebay trying to sell things. It's not worth it. I'd be selling my life away trying to get $5 here and $25 there. I have neither the time, energy nor space for a massive garage sale. What to do? I've given away so much to the thrift stores and library already. When does it stop? I would have boxes and boxes of things that I'd need to store and sell slowly. Any ideas?

It's just 2am and I'm up, fully awake. I think one of the reasons a full night's sleep is eluding me is that there is so much on my mind. I'm almost ready to get dressed and go to the gym; it's open 24/7.

Sending you all hugs,

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Liz-my Cardinals deserved to lose-they played like Little Leaguers. I am almost glad they lost as now I don't have to worry about watching the ballgames anymore so that frees up some of my time-how is that for putting it all in perspective-ha ha! Go Giants!!!! Don't tell my Michigan friends - ha ha.
We got our house power washed today. It is a relief to have that done but would have liked to wait another couple of weeks but if DH was to help, it had to be this week.
We went out to the monthly birthday/anniversary dinner this evening. It was held at Outback and I managed to stay on track. That filet was really yummy.
Good luck with your sales on E-Bay, Gail. I hope you can keep things moving but glad you took a day off-we need to recharge our batteries from time to time.

Pat - That is wonderful news about your DH. Glad that everything is a go ahead for the surgery.

Gail - What great finds. Don't get discourage on Ebay and make sure you charge a little more for shipping and handling as sometimes you can short change yourself. It may cost more than you think when you get to the post office. I learned the hard way.

Liz - Great find on the shirt. And I am glad the Giants won too.

I am doing better and my shoulder is not so anger at me so much. I am finely sleeping better. Just getting ready for our trip down to California. Our rents just moved out today. We will arrive on Halloween night. We have a friend that is picking up the keys tomorrow from him. Just never seems like enough time to get things done. Trying to get laundry, clean the house, Rx filled, hair cuts and see people all before we leave is crazy.

I hope that everyone is having a wonderful week. Our weather here has changed the nights have gotten cooler 36 in the morning now. emoticon

Good Morning:

I did manage to finish the book HISS & HERS yesterday and was glad that I did that for myself. I also exercised in the morning before I brought my car in for the repairs sustained in that auto accident with the cyclist. My friend Ann came over in the morning and we went through 3-4 boxes of stuff. Much will go to the charity shops, a LOT went into the garbage, one was a box of books...most of these will go to the UW book sale....and a few things will be put on Ebay. My arm were killing me last night and I had to take some Ibuprofen. Lifting boxes had me straining my biceps.

My sil came over in the afternoon and looked up the stuff that will go on Ebay. The thing listed now is a vintage Santa PEZ dispenser made in Austria. No bids yet but there are 3 people watching. We also found a miniature "spy camera" from the 1940's made in occupied Japan...in the leather case and box with instructions; a pair of desk items from the ART DECO period, and a vintage glass pen and ink holder. Reed, my sil wants to show me how to post on Ebay but my mind hasn't been clear enough to take it all in. I've got to get to that point so I can take care of things myself.

I decided to take today off and veg. I keep saying I'm going to do that but never do. I will go to the gym this morning and then will watch old movies on TV or read. Yesterday I got a car rental from the auto repair and only have to pay for gas. Since yesterday it's been raining or very cloudy, so it will be good to do those things.

Stay well everyone,

Gail

IMREIRTE: Good job on the shirt. Don't you just love to get such bargains?

Pat: Glad the pre-surgery stuff is out of the way. How did your Cardinals do last night?

Val: Are you OK? We haven't heard from you in a while.

Sandy: What have you been up to? Are you feeling better?

Nan: What are your plans this week. Going to lunch one day with your friends?

Enjoy each day.

Quick note to let you know DH got the final approval for his surgery so doing the final things for that and trying to get things done at home that we need taken care of before the surgery.
Now getting off here to watch the ballgame and the debate. My Cardinals aren't doing well and this looks like the end of the road if things don't improve pretty fast!

Good Morning:

Bringing my car in for repairs this morning and will be without a vehicle till late Wednesday afternoon. Should be interesting.

Still going to exercise every day and blessing the doctor who told me only 20 minutes. That comes to 140 minutes a week, or 2 hours 20 minutes a week every week. I'm not complaining and already have been experiencing the benefits: No more stiffness in the hips and back, more stamina and ever-improving my speed and resistance on the cardio equipment.

Take care all and be well.

Gail

Gail it is nice that you had some time to just enjoy life and not worry about all that you must deal with. emoticon on that scrabble win. emoticon
I am glad you have people coming who are willing to help you with all of these things. It is hard to believe that Vic would not have given you the password to use to get into the vault but then maybe not. I am glad you were able to get some $$$ out of all those books. Every little bit helps.
I didn't get done what I planned today, but that is ok. I am sure I will have time to do things while Bill is recovering and I am going to pretty much have to hang around the house for a couple weeks. My spare bedroom will be the biggest job and then I will clean out some closets and drawers. I got the Fl room all emptied out now and it looks good and so much more spacious. We are really enjoying it now that it is cooler.
I have to do some yardwork this week to make sure that is caught up before the 29th-if not, it will just have to be done whenever I can get to it.
Tomorrow is Bill's visit with the primary and we will find out if he gives his blessing to surgery and if so, it is full speed ahead on everything!
Have a great week.

Good Morning:

I did a lot yesterday but also made time to rest and have a lovely evening. My day started out with a trip to the bookstore where they gave me $50 for four boxes of books. After a quick trip to the bank and library I went to the gym and walked on the treadmill for 20 minutes. (Gee, my doctor is brilliant. It's little enough time to get my butt in there and long enough to get some benefit.) Afterward, there was a short stop at the grocery and post office. When I got home I showered and rested in bed for about an hour. Then I went to my daughter's for dinner and a game of scrabble. I creamed my sil and daughter, having two 7 letter words and many good scoring points in the the game.

Today the house will be cleaned and, after a trip to the gym, I will read the latest Beaton mystery. This evening someone from the timebank is coming to help me sort out some electronics. I need to know which DVD player to keep, which to sell and which to junk. Also, this member will help me match the remote controls with the DVDs. UGH. Such a mess and so much complications.

Did I mention Vic put all his pin numbers and passwords in a password vault? Well, I haven't been able to get into it. The timebank member will try to hack it. He said if he can't several coworkers would love to have a try at it. Hey, it works for me.

Hoping you are all enjoying the weekend and are feeling well,

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Val-how nice to have your mom come to visit. I hope you both have a great time.

SRivers-that is emoticon news that you do not have RA. A great big emoticon to that news.

Gail every time you write, it sounds like you have a bit more accomplished. I can't begin to imagine all the "stuff" you are cleaning out. I am such a minimalist that I would have gone crazy with all the clutter. I worked again today on cleaning out my Fl room that serves as our storage area. My dear DH brings things home from the park "dump" that he thinks I might like and he often does find nice things but if I don't want it, he doesn't return it, he puts it in there so now I have more to go back and it will be "outta here". I pretty much have it straightened back up.

Today was yard sale day. Five of us took off about 7:30 and got back home about noon. We only went to two different community sales but found some great bargains. I guess my find of the day was 3 bowling balls for FREE. I will post pics when I get them made into creations for our gardens. I have several projects that I want to work on soon as it is cooler and I can sit out in the carport to work on things. We also got a nice chair for outside. It is one of those that swivels and rocks and usually sell for $100 and up and I got it for $10!

I have rested my feet this afternoon as I did a lot of walking and while I was doing that I got online and compared the Part D prescription plans for DH and think we are going to have to switch him again. I found one that will save us over $400 a year if we use the mailorder to get his meds and I do as it is so much easier. I hate to switch but for that amount it is worth it.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Good Morning:

It's almost 2:30am and I can't sleep so I just got up and thought I'd put things in order. Yesterday a friend came and simplified the electronics set-ups in the bedroom and family room. Vic was into electronics and almost all of it will eventually go. But so much of it was hooked up unnecessarily. There were 4 DVD players in the family room, surround sound (which we never used), a laser disc player, etc. Now I have one DVD player hooked up and can maneuver the vacuum. However, this friend left the unused stuff in the family room in boxes and I've got to get them out of there. It's a challenge to find space anywhere in the house, garage or basement so I'll need to get creative. Vic was a master space engineer; I'm not. Even though I've gotten rid of so much there doesn't seem to be space to put things. Well, I'll figure it out.

I'm not going to do too much today and plan to kick back. What have you all planned.

Thank you all so much for the compliments and bringing me back to reality now and again. I don't see myself the way you see me. You see what I've done and how far I've come. I see what has yet to be done and dismiss my progress. I've got to be easier on myself and it's hard.

Sending you all hugs,

Gail

Enjoy each day.

My sprained ankle is finally getting much better. Although, I did go into the pool today and think I did too much. It is a bit sore tonight. I will be careful with it tomorrow. We got bad news today that the manager of our Homeowners Association has embezzled almost $160,000. We are so shocked. She is over 55 and seemed so nice. But we never know about people.

Gail - glad that you are reading. You are also staying so active. That is such a great thing!

Vali - it is nice that your mother is going to be visiting you. But I know what you mean. You feel that you have to get everything in order - especially for a mother's visit.

Pat - I am happy to hear that your husband is getting good reports from his physician.

SRivers - happy to hear that your shoulder is feeling better.

Darla - sorry to hear that you have had medical problems. I hope you are feeling well at this time.

Gail it sounds like you are doing so much better. I am happy that things are slowly leaving your place. What a chore for you but it will keep you occupied and help keep your mind busy.
It will eventually get done and you will be able to look back at these days and realize it has made you a stronger person.
I have had a great day-no dr appts, no tests for DH. How nice to be able to stay home and just relax. That was a little tongue in cheek-still walked, worked in the park gardens, did some laundry, cooked, went for a swim but still had time to sit down and chill too.

Gail, being able to find (or make) the time to read a book is a good sign for you and your life. I know that things are pretty stressful for you right now, but please try to take at least a little bit of time for yourself every day. Reading, listening to special music, watching something silly on TV, taking a walk, whatever. Doesn't really matter what, just take some time for yourself every day.

I get to clean and tidy this weekend because my mom is going to be visiting for 4 or 5 days next week. I'm so happy about having her here that I don't even mind having to do the tidying stuff, which is very odd for me. emoticon After my ex drove off toward Kurt's neck of the woods post divorce, I set up his bedroom as a guest room...but I have yet to have a guest stay in it. emoticon I think it will be nice...especially if I can get things tidied up a bit so that she doesn't see quite how untidy I am. emoticon (Not like she hasn't seen it before over the years, but I'd like for her to think that maybe her daughter is changing for the better as she approaches middle age...)

I hope that you all have a great weekend. I'm too tired to tell you anything else about what's going on in my life right now.

There was much rejoicing!

Good Morning:

I finished a book that I started a couple of days ago, an Ian Rankin mystery, the first in the Rebus series. Are any of you acquainted with Rankin? I liked it and will go to the next one. This was the first book in a few weeks that I read...a good sign that I'm taking a bit of time for myself doing something enjoyable. Wednesday I took a continuing education class, the first 4 credits towards the 24 required to maintain an insurance license in the current two year period. I liked the fact that it was given at a location just two blocks from my home. This evening I'll be going for poll training. I'm back to working the polls for the upcoming presidential election and will be there for both the AM and PM shifts. Those will go from 6am to 9:30pm. Do any of you do this? The pay is over $11 per hour, but the good part is that the same base group of people are usually there every time and we "catch up". The work is straight forward and not difficult or stressful. There are a lot of people who vote in this area so the time goes by pretty quickly.

Earlier this week a friend helped me bring some boxes out of storage and I'll be going through them in the next couple of days. Some have papers to be thrown away... greeting cards and financial records from years ago... while others have mugs and other things destined for the thrift shop. There are also a couple of mystery boxes of things that Victor packed up and shipped from his parents' apartment after his dad died. I suspect most of that is junk to be thrown away. But I must go through it all to make certain they don't contain archival materials.

A week or so ago a lady from the University of Wisconsin called and she is interested in obtaining archival materials. She told me there are private individuals who will raise money to help pay for them. I certainly don't want them and believe they belong where scholars can get their hands on them. All the material involves the history of WW II.

Going to have my morning coffee and then it's off to the gym.

Gail

Pat: Glad things are looking up for Bill.

Enjoy each day.

DH is thru the sonogram on his liver and tech said it looked good to him so hoping he has seen enough he knows-at least that made us feel better for now. DH also saw the urologist this afternoon and things are good there-he is telling him he is cancer free now and his next visit is in 6 mo and then if all is still good, it will go back to an annual visit.
Between those, we had our area rug cleaned and it looks good now. It is amazing how dirty it had gotten and we take our shoes off in the kitchen.
Tomorrow we have nothing scheduled so maybe we can relax a bit. I want to do some gardening in the morning before things heat up. I walk anywhere from 6 to 7 am depending on what is scheduled for the day as I like to make sure I get it done and while it is cool.
Looking forward to a big yard sale on Sat.

Well, we finally got our rain after 80 days of no rain, which broke a 1922 record. We now have had 2 days of a break in the rain but it is to start back up tonight and continue for a while.

My shoulder seems to be getting bette. It's not so angry at me any more. The doctor said that my shoulder was "angry" at me after the surgery. I told the the doctor that I was angry at it for being angry at me. emoticon

Pat - I hope everything goes well for your DH.

Gail - Glad to hear that things are coming along. Thank you for your suport on the house.

Have a great rest of the week everyone.

Gail it seems like when it rains, it pours. May you get a little drought in your financial ills. It is good that you are continuing your exercise. That will help ease the stress of all of this. I know my morning walk helps me to put everything in perspective and get ready for what the day has in store.
SRivers I hope that things work out and your home sells quickly. I am sure that would be one less worry for you.
We have had another full day but got it all done. I walked very early and then got ready for our Wed morning breakfast. we only had 12 go today. We had to get back home as DH had an appt at 9:45 for the retest - they think he may have a UTI-do not need this complication this close to surgery but hopefully it will not be a problem. The loveseat was to be delivered between 10 & 12 so was hoping we could get back by 10 but the order wasn't at the lab even though the nurse told me yesterday it was already faxed there! We made it home about 10:15 and luckily they hadn't come yet. I had to go to an RO meeting-since I am on the finance committee, I thought it was wise for me to be there in case we had to make any kind of recommendation and I didn't get home from that mtg until 12:15. DH stayed home and loveseat arrived about 10:45 and he was enjoying it!
We had company coming at 1:30 so I had to get our lunch and then finish getting ready for them. We played 3 games of cards this afternoon and after they left, I baked some tilapia for our supper. Now I am watching the Cards-Giants play-I recorded it and finally have time to sit down and watch the game!!!
Another busy one tomorrow.

Good Morning:

I feel like such a slug dumping my woes on you ladies, while you all have your crosses to bear. I'm afraid the constant stream of problems that come to block my path are preventing me from enjoying and seeing all my blessings. I've got to take stock, and, as everyone says, take a break.

I won't go into the latest woes, but suffice it to say that to remedy them will cost a fair amount of money. Thankfully, I have saved so I have it; the problem is I fear using up the savings to remedy things, and in the past couple of months it seems there's more going out than there is coming in. I hope by November 1st at least my finances are straightened out with Vic's pension.

I'm proud of myself for getting to the gym, most especially when stress makes exercise the last thing I want to do. My doctor was so wise in telling me to only do twenty minutes. Honestly, if he had told me to do more I would be absent almost all the time. I can talk to myself and say, " It's only twenty minutes. You can do this."

Stay happy and safe everyone.

Gail

Nan: Glad you're back safely. Tell us something about your trip.

Sandy: Good luck selling the house.

Darla: So glad to hear all the good news about the family. Take care of your leg/foot problems.

Linda: How are things going for you?

Val: Is everything finally straightened out with the hot water problems?

Kurt: It's been a long time since we heard from you. Do stop by and bring us up to date.
We miss you and hope you found a new job.

Pat: A friend gave Vic a "power recliner" and it was a godsend, especially when he was so, so weak the last months of his life. I had to sleep in a chair for a couple of weeks when I had sinus surgery a couple of years ago and was so glad we had a recliner. That was bad enough, but trying to sleep sitting up would have been horrible. It sounds like the power love seat will help a great deal.

Miss you all,

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Pat - I feel for the both of you. That is not easy sleeping in a chair. I was sleeping on the soft for a while because of my hand so I wouldn't roll on it and I would keep DH up at night when I watched the TV. He was just around the corner so he could hear me if I needed him. My prayers are with you and your DH that all goes well with the surgery. emoticon

Darla - Sorry to hear about your foot I hope it gets better soon. emoticon

Nan - emoticon Glad you got back safely and that you had a good time.

My shoulder seems to be getting better as long as I don't do too much. The heat and rest and exercises seem to help.

I have everything about ready for our trip down to Calif. It looks like it will be the end of the Month as the renters are not able to move out till then which is fine. The Realtor we have is a friend and he is getting everything ready to go forward and has people lined up in case there is any work we need to do on the house. So, I am happy about that. Just want very thing to go smooth and want it to be sold fast. things down there seem to be selling pretty quickly. So, I think I have it priced pretty good.

Hope everyone is having a good week.

Darla so sorry to hear about your foot ailments but hope they can get it under control. It was also good to catch up with what is going on with you. Seem your life is settling into a routine and that is a good thing.

I was up late watching the ballgame and emoticon my Cards beat the Giants. I will be glad when these games are over so that I can get some more sleep!!! I still had to get up at 6:30 to walk even though it was about 1 am when I got to bed! DH had to go for pre-surgery blood work and chest x-ray today.so that is now out of the way. Of course, he had to be fasting so had an 8:30 appt and that was why we had to be up early. After coming home for his breakfast, we headed back to the furniture store to look again and have settled on a power reclining loveseat. We both feel this will solve the problem of DH being able to get up and down on his own after surgery. He will take the left side and that will allow him to use his good arm to use the button to raise and lower himself and I won't have to be at hand constantly so he can get up and down as he would not be able to work the lever on his present recliner. The dr has said he will likely have to sleep in the recliner for 6-8 weeks to protect the arm - another problem as I was going to have to sleep in the family room with him and now after a couple of weeks, I will be able to sleep in bed once he is doing a little better. I am not sure who this surgery is going to be the hardest on! Tomorrow we have to move out the 2 chairs we presently have in our Fl room (the man who mows our yard is going to take them) and we will put our current recliners out there. I have to get things all cleaned up in the family room tomorrow-will steam the floor, etc. We are having our area rug professionally cleaned on Thur. I have been doing it but it is time for a deeper cleaning. I am just hoping we get all our ducks in a row soon!
