Good Morning:

Yesterday I got rid of two large grocery bags of "clean sweep" items from the basement. Two other grocery bags were filled with empty jars. I gave a way various cleaners I would not use to a friend...again, two grocery bags full. Finally, there were three grocery bags filled with things that I will sell or give a way. Progress is slow, but it's moving. It still looks like I've hardly made a dent. Right now I'm focusing on getting things off the floor in the basement. UGH.

Last night Helena, my daughter, and I went out for dinner. She insisted on treating me. We spent a lovely evening together. I'm so proud of her; she's working full time and going for a Master's Degree nights and weekends.

I went to the gym again yesterday and am going again today. I just do twenty minutes of easy exercise just like the doctor said. If I do more or if I work out more intensely I'll probably get sore and lose the impetus to go. I'm just not there yet. My plan is to keep at it this way and when I'm ready add just five minutes to the workout. Make sense?

Pat: There's no doubt that I must be making progress given all I've already disposed of. Yet, there is so much stuff that it doesn't look like I made a dent. I really need to be patient.

Hope you are all enjoying a wonderful fall as we are here in Madison, WI.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Gail you are making such progress, it must feel like weight lifting off of you every time you take a load to the thrift store. You sound like you are making great progress at the gym also. I plan to reinstate my membership once I know what dr plans for DH. If he has to go for therapy I will be running him for that and if he has surgery, I will be busy too so don't want to get started and have to drop out for a month or so so holding off till I know what is going on!
I start the diet my dr recommended on Mon so tomorrow is my "last hurrah". No, I don not plan to go wild. We are going to Outback after chruch tomorrow for DH's birthday which is Sun. We have a coupon for a free lunch so it won't be too expensive. I will not overindulge but likely will have a baked potato which will be off limits on Mon!

Good Afternoon:

I cleaned out some more today and found several pairs of NEW pants with the price tags still on them. Ah well, the hospice thrift shop will have yet another haul.

I've restarted my gym membership and have done 20 minutes each day. I'm listening to the doctor and gradually getting reused to it. I also have a one month free trial for a heated massage bed at the gym. It's been helping a lot with lower back pain. I think that pain is from stress and inactivity.

Going to dinner this evening with my daughter and really looking forward to it.

Enjoy the weekend.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Well, I admit I'm a book hoarders. I love books & have re-read them. My daughter got me a Sony & I have some books on them. Last Christmas she gave me the latest Kindle. I didn't want it. What I wanted was gravel, dirt or mulch. Besides we are on dial up & it takes forever to download anything. - plus I can get kicked off (AOL's latest problem) at any time. She's taking me for a trip to Miss (g-son's in the AF) & to New Orleans with a side trip to Slidell to see my aunt. So I'm taking the Kindle & my new camera (a b-day gift from a friend) that I also don't know how to use. She said she'd show me how to use it. I'm sorta not looking forward to the lessons. She's not long on patience if you know what I mean. I want to see the French Quarter & the St. Louis cememtery (during the day of course!) I've always wanted to see New Orleans.

I'm still going thru stuff & getting rid of it. But have slowed down so I can get the yard finished before winter. And he's still working on his stuff in the craft room. He had the test on Thursday & can't lift or pull anything heavey for a week. We're waiting on the test results. It's really damp & cool outside right now.

Hope everyone has a good & safe day!

Laundry, organizing (I was never a serious hoarder like Vic but I've got waaaay too much, um, stuff), sleep past 3:15 in the morning for a couple of days, play with kitties, and maybe cook a pot roast in my crock pot. I ordered 3 little thingamajigs that were sold as fabric carts (or something like that) and this weekend I'm going to put them together. I'm hoping that there will be enough space to store all of my beads. If so, that will free up a bunch of space in former DH's dresser and on a bookshelf in his former room. I can always use extra storage space and my plan for that bookshelf is for it to use it to expand my larder, which has become really small and wouldn't sustain me for very long if push were to come to shove.

There was much rejoicing!

Good Afternoon:

Went to the gym again today and rode the bike for 15 minutes and walked around the track for 5 minutes. In just three days I went from huffing and puffing with achy thighs to running up the steps with no pain. WOO HOO!

Hope you all have a good weekend. Anyone have anything planned?

Gail

Enjoy each day.

I don't have a Kindle but it is something I would like in the future. Our local library also has a number of books they lend-the popular ones you have to get on a wait list but I have found that happens even on the "real" books too so not much difference!
We have our own library here in our park and everyone donates books to it after they have read them and we get a lot of the latest ones so it is great. In fact, we got so many last year that we had to donate a large number of them to make some room. Guess what, it is full again!!

I found all of the free Kindle books on amazon.com. Sometimes I kind have to go searching for the free ones, but they do have quite a few that are free of charge because their copyrights have run out.

VALI_T: My husband got me a Nook fro Christmas and I love mine too. I never wanted one before, but he got me one anyway and I am soo glad he did. I do not buy books because I never reread them. I tried, but I can open the first page and remember the silly thing word for word. So I am thankful for my Nook. And my library is connected to a statewide program where I can acess free books, just like a library. Where all do you go to get free books?

Pat and Gail, I've got a loooootttt of books, but sounds like nowhere near as many as Vic had accumulated. My big problem is that I can't give them away until I've read them. So I was methodically going through them all and giving them away after I'd read them...and then my parents gave me a Kindle for my birthday. I absolutely love it and you can get all kinds of free books to read on it as well as a lot of pretty inexpensive ones. I've downloaded a lot of the classics that I've never read (for free because they are no longer under copyright) and now I've been neglecting the box of books in my bedroom that I need to read and give away. I'll get back to them...sometime...

There was much rejoicing!

Gail it sounds like you are making progress-slow and steady gets it done! I can relate to the books-I used to hang onto all of mine but rarely went back to reread them and when we moved into the rv to travel full time I had to get rid of them all so now I just donate them after I read them or a select few I send to my graddaughter in Washington. She inherited my love of books.
I am probably the overpowering one in my family!!! I have 1 step-brother and 2 half -brothers and I am the oldest. Of course, 2 live in Ill so rarely see them - only Tommy & I are in Fl and he lives 100 miles from me. We are too much alike but seem to get along really well. I try not to give them too much grief!
I need to get out and put some of my decorations out this evening-it was too hot this afternoon and I have a meeting tomorrow morning so that gets into my time to work outside. by the time it is over, it will be too hot again.

Good Morning:

I saw my doctor on Wednesday and discussed my return to the gym. He told me to start out slowly and build up. Yesterday was my first day back and even the little I did helped a lot. I just walked around the track for twenty minutes. The day before I had mentioned to the gym staff that I had lower back pain so they gave me a free month to try out this heated massage bed. You only stay on it for 10 minutes. There is a heated roller that goes up and down your spine. It's adjustable from your neck to your ankles. I had it go from my neck to my lower back. By the time I got off I had no stiffness at all. I'm looking forward to going back to it this morning. I also noticed that I wasn't stiff this morning when I got out of bed. I'm so fortunate that my body responds so well to exercise and massage.

I cleared out a lot of junk yesterday, enough to pave a small path to the east wall of the basement. Victor's father would send him articles of interest and Vic kept those articles and the envelopes they came in. He also saved every letter he ever got from anyone. As I come across boxes of these I toss them. I've also been tossing bank statements, canceled checks and paid bills that go back years. They go from the 1960's to 2012. You can imagine all the room they take up. It's so freeing to finally get rid of it all.

Val: I know what you mean about disappointment. The Steinway piano was a fortune to fix. When you add in the cost of the piano, it's where it was 34 years ago.

Pat: So glad you got to see your brother and his wife. It's great that you enjoy each others company. My sister is overpowering and I need to brace myself before we get together. Do any of you have very bossy siblings?

Penny: I could never convince anyone of all the things we have in our basement. Right now I'm working on clearing out paths so they are safe. Books and boxes are stacked on steel shelving and on the floor. Most areas are impassable. The other day I brought 5 large grocery bags full of books to Half Priced Books and got $18 for them. Today I'll call the University to come and pick up 17 boxes of books that I am donating for their book sale. All this and I've hardly made a dent in his collection.

Sandy: Be patient and keep up the exercises at home. You will improve. Are you still very tired following your surgery?

MZ: So glad you had a chance for a great visit. Sounds like you had a blast with your nephews.

Nan: Do you go to the movies often? I go so infrequently and haven't been impressed with the few that I have seen in the past couple of years. I guess I just don't know how to pick them. I enjoy watching old movies from the 1930's and 1940's on the Turner Classic Movie station. Do you ever catch any of those?

TheAdmiral: How are things going for you? Who was Teresa? Was that Sixty? We haven't heard from her in a long time.

Golddust: We haven't heard from you for a long time either. How is the bathroom remodeling going? Is it all done? What did you do?

Sending everyone hugs,

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Hi everyone. I haven't been getting messages from this team for a couple of weeks so I think I'm going to have to go check to see if my settings for which groups I get posts from has gotten changed by accident. (That seems to happen to people from time to time.) emoticon

Gail, I'm really glad that you've been able to sell some things and take a small bit of the pressure off of yourself. I'm with Vic in sometimes overestimating what things may be worth. I had my violin fixed up recently and got the first estimate of its value in about 20 or 25 years. The darn thing was estimated to be worth exactly what it was when I was a senior in high school! (30 years ago emoticon ) I thought that it was going to be valued at twice that much so obviously I was a little disappointed. Not that I want to sell my violin, far from it. But I really did expect it to be worth more after 30 years. I think it has a bit to do with the current economy, but whatever. I'm not about to sell it, just want to be able to make sure that it's properly insured with my renter's policy.

Anyway, I hope that everything is going really well for all of you. I need to go get ready for bed now but hopefully I'll figure out why I wasn't getting the posts for this group and I'll chat with all of you again soon.

There was much rejoicing!

Had a wonderful day today-my brother and his wife came down and spent the day with us. We had so much fun visiting and we even taught them to play Hand & Foot. We had last seen them when we were both up north for our family reunion. He is recuperating from surgery on his shoulder and thinks he may get released to return to work late next week.

Gail, great on the music sales. Vic sounds like us at the moment. We go to area auction on Wed & Fri evenings. I did fine 2 small arm chairs for my living room but most of the stuff we get isn't something that we "NEED" if you know what I mean. Once in a while Bill'll find a tool or something he can get for a fraction of what it'd cost at the store. Werid stuff is my down fall. And I'm a bad book adict. No matter how I thin them down I seem to replace them pretty fast. And I'm bad at picking up stuff that I know other people can use. They seem to enjoy the little "treasures" & I enjoy it. I have found that if I have to but an entire box of stuff to get what I want I'll give it away to the other people instead of breing it home. You wouldn't believe how much that has helped.

I got the yard mowed yesterday while Bill weed-eated the orchard & raspberries. We'd planted white clover as a ground cover but it hasn't spread enough to control the weeds. Later on we have to go & get some flea stuff for the dog & 2 cats. And it looks like it could pour at any time. We really need the rain.

Hope everyone has a safe day!

Nan - DH & I want to see that. It looks really good. Looking forward to the New James Bond movie coming out in November.

DH and watched Football and did house work. DH is a little under the weather as he is just getting over a sinus infection. But, he still has to do things around the house instead of resting.

Well, I only have one more PT session and then I am done. They feel that I am doing good enough to release me. It is much better than it was but,it is not 100%. There are still things I can't quit do yet, it will take time.

I hope that everyone has a wonderful week.

My husband was in class all weekend, so I took the opportunity to go visit my family that lives 3 hours away. I hung out with my dad, went shopping and to a movie with my mom, visited with both my brothers and my sister-in-law and played like crazy with mu two cute little nephews. It was great fun and very relaxing.

The start of another week and this time next week it will be October. I am looking forward to the start of it as I got my books today for the diet my dr recommended and that is going to be my start date. I have already read the 1st 3 chapters and compiling the list of what I need to have on hand.
Took DH for his PSA test this morning and then went to the grocery store and back to the library where I picked up my books. We took the RV in for an oil change this morning and picked it up this afternoon. I plan to get it cleaned out inside and put the clean bedding on. It is cooler and the humidity has gone down so I think it will be tolerable inside. When I see the thermometer reading 104-108 it is just too hot to do much.in there.

Gail - That was so great for both of you. A win/win for both.

This weekend I have been do laundry and trying to catch up on needed house work, that has been waiting for me since surgery. I am just starting to get a handle on it. We have replaced light bulbs in all the light in the garage and outside. got all the veggie plants pulled. We still have to trim back trees and the roses, but we still have time for that. We are going to check around the windows this week to see if they need any caulking before the winter hits. Other than that we are going to try to go out to eat tomorrow and then come home and watch football.

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend.

Pat: Hope Bill is doing all right today.

Nan and Sandy: What are you doing this weekend?

Penny: Those bulbs sound beautiful. Happy birthday to your DH. As for auctions, I don't have the time or inclination to deal with all the stuff, and I don't have enough room to have an estate sale. Vic collected everything. (See the blog I wrote today if you want to know more.) A lot of the stuff he bought at Goodwill or other thrift stores. These were not treasures; they were just things he liked. I've been giving them to the charity shops with the very best stuff (mostly new clothes) going to the Hospice thrift store. The problem is he also bought stuff that has value, and I'm trying to distinguish the trash from the treasure.

Today I got a nice surprise. A well-known American pianist lives here in town. He and Vic had the same piano teacher. Anyway, he came by and bought several scores and books. It went very smoothly with him getting a good deal and me getting a much better price than I would on consignment. I still have lots of scores and books in the basement, but they are inaccessible. When I get to them I'll call him back to have a look. The University will reimburse him for all he bought today so that's even better for him.

Hope you all enjoy the weekend.

Gail

WE got Bill's b-day Iris bulbs yesterday so spent the morning planting them. They're the re-blooming kind - all 22 of them. He really loves Iris so we have just about all the colors in the regular Iris & have been getting the re-blooming kind in different colors now..

Gail, we go to a near by auction on Wed/Fri nights. Last nigh they had an estate sale & several of the family turned up to bid on some of the stuff. What's sad is when they sell family pictures. I just don't understand there not being someone who would want those. You can never tell from one time to another what something will bring. If something doesn't bring a bid they'll put something else up with it. Some people end up buying whole boxes of stuff for a little bit of nothing. When ever I get a box, and only want part of it, I pass out the rest to those sitting around me. That way i don't have to bring it home with me. Several of us do this. They'sv sold everything from an Armish buggy to a Catholic priests stuff. Even a car. As times have gotten harder the prices have really gone down & people tend to be getting more things that they can really use instead ot "knick-knacks". Re-sellers are having a hard time of finding things to put in their re-sale places. Anyway, I hope that you can get rid of all that you want to. I just wished that I'd been thinking this way years ago.

Hope everyone has agood & safe day!

We are getting some much needed rain this evening. We expected it all day and it arrives at dusk!
More of the same around here today. I am ready for some cooler weather and maybe the weeds will slow down.

Have a fantastic weekend.

Pat: Sounds like you might need to shop for another doctor. I'm concerned that mistakes such as those reflect poor data entry and begin to wonder if Bill's info might get on another person's chart or vice versa. Glad you were able to enjoy your day and move on.

Sandy; That is so kind of you to share with your aunt. I'm sure she appreciates the wonderful produce from your garden. This is the very first year in decades that I didn't have a summer vegetable garden and it was too bad. However, a friend stopped by yesterday with some green peppers, eggplants and tomatoes. I cannot wait to dig in. I think I'll make eggplant relish. It's healthy and yummy. As for the PT, keep at it; it works. I've got to get back to it and be diligent. These past weeks since Vic died have been frantic and though I've kept up the most important exercise, there are several others I must do to improve my range of motion.

Nan: Where were you when you had the flat? Was is sudden or was it a slow leak? Hope you were able to get it repaired without much hassle. Do you have road service?

Sending you all hugs,

Gail

We got up early to walk as DH had an appt at the urologist for a PSA check-his 6 mo checkup after finishing his radiation and guess what, they did not have him on the calendar even though we had a card showing the appt!!! The dingbat who checked us out in June must not have put it in the computer. The day didn't get any better when I called after we got home to complain about this. They expect you to make appointments or want to charge you and want 24 hrs notice IF you need to change an appt but they mess up and you have to come back later. Then I find out another dingbat today made the appt for DH with the wrong dr!!! The DR is going to sure get an earful when we do get to see him!!!!
Had a nice afternoon, went to lunch with friends. Today was Lin's birthday so went out for that and then came home and played cards. Nice end to the day.

Nan - Sorry to hear about the flat tire. Hope you got it fixed with not a lot of trouble.

Pat - My DH is the same way with MRI's. Glad that Bill was able to get the Open-Air one. Hope his shoulder and neck is better soon.

Doing house work today. It is cooler here, 75 today. Hoping to get some more plants trimmed this week and stay ahead of the game this year.

Poor Bill spent 2 hours in the MRI machine this morning. I am so glad I told them to set him up for the Open MRI as he is very claustrophobic. I guess he relaxed as he said he dozed a few minutes at the last. While he was doing that I managed to read 2 of my magazines and started a 3rd so I guess it was a productive morning.
Gail-when I have time, I have been reading novels by Lisa Jackson. I read 2 this summer while we were traveling. I used to be a big Debbie Macomber fan, but lately her books have seemed all the same so I was getting bored and felt I needed someone new to read,
I went to bed at 10 so I could be out walking by 6 am this morning. I might do it again tonite as it will be another early morning.
We have decided to keep our RV for now so I am working on getting it cleaned up. I did the bedding so now we have to get it remade. That takes both of us as you have to lift the mattress since it is against something on 3 sides. What a job it is!!
We had our 1st RO meeting of the fall and we arrived just as it was starting. Luckily it didn't last too long. I am sure those going forth this winter will be lengthy so nice to not have to sit thru one today.
I got to go to the pool this afternoon and enjoyed a nice 90 min in there. We thought it was going to rain as it got really dark so beat feet home but it ended up going around us.

Gail, to answer your question I share some of it with my Aunt and some I freeze. I have tried to freeze Milk before and it just don't taste the same when you defrost it. Maybe it is me. I would try it and see how you like it first. We do try just to grow enough produce just for the two of us. But, if I get extra produce I share it with my Aunt or my neighbor.

It was a warm day here again today. DH and I ran some errors after my PT appt. That is going much better. Not able to make a fist as yet but, I am getting there. The Iron pills are starting to work. Not as tired today as I have been in the past few days. emoticon

Pat - Hope your Bill's shoulder & neck is feeling better soon. I know what a problem that can be.

How everyone is having a good week.

Hope you get to read. What are you reading these days?

Good Afternoon everyone. It is a rainy one here. It blew in about noon with lots of thunder and lightning and scared our little Abbie.- when that happens, she just wants to be held so that is what I did.
Gail, it is great that you are making headway. It is really hard to let go but it is also a weight off too. I know-I had to do this 24 years ago when dear DH#1 passed away. I am happy that the person you are using to consign your Steinway with is a fair person. That goes a long way to giving one peace of mind. We all want a fair price and the most we can get for something and in this day and age it seems so many people are ready to rip you off. I just do not know how they can live with themselves, but evidently it is easier than I can imagine.
We got a call from the dr and DH has severe degerative disc disease in his neck and shoulder. He is going for an MRI tomorrow morning and then will find out what the dr plans. I would imagine therapy will be the first option.
I got out and walked - love that time before sunrise. That is my me time!!! Today I took Abbie in her stroller as DH and Sonny stopped for their Tuesday coffee and donuts and I know how she loves to go and they could not leave her alone too long so she went with me. We walked some extra as I like to take her up to the sidewalk along the roadway where she does not get so dirty and this gives her a bit of exercise too.
I have done some paperwork today and then read some. I am making a dent in those magazines!!
I am still waiting on the library to notify me they have my books-I expected to hear today but so far nothing! I am anxious to start this diet but I am watching what I am eating BUT tonite we are taking our friend out who picked us up when we were stranded when the RV quit running and the couple who were stranded with me. It is an expense but they won't take $$$ so this is how we are saying thanks for being great friends and helping us when we really needed them. This place has really good steaks so I am contemplating having one with a baked potato and salad.
Well gotta run so I can get ready.

Good Morning:

Sunday night our family had a wonderful dinner. It was good to be with my daughter, sil and granddaughter. As good as it was I was in full panic mode after dinner. My daughter and sil said I should get a second opinion on the Steinway before sending it off to consignment. I didn't sleep at all Sunday night and yesterday I was hyperventilating all day. By evening I had learned that the gentleman I had an agreement with was very fair, so I calmed down and was able to have a restful night. They say you shouldn't make any huge decisions till after a year when your spouse dies. OK, but my case is so unusual. I cannot live with all this stuff and I cannot distinguish trash from treasure. One thing I'm coming to understand is that Victor grossly overestimated the value of his things. That's not to say that some things are worth quite a bit; it's just that he thought they were worth so very much more.

This morning I'm going for a facial at the beauty school and hope to relax. After the tension I've experienced since Sunday night I need all the relaxation I can get. I may try to do some mediation. Yesterday, on several occasions I had to tell myself to take a deep breath.

I have friends helping me with Vic's scores. I have no clue as to how much they are worth. I think some are worth as little as a dollar, and I've come across others that sell on ebay for $50 a volume each if they are in very good condition. His things are all excellent to good. I figure if I discount the ebay price by say 20% that should work out fine for me and the buyer when I sell it in town.

I hope you are all doing very well and that there is something beautiful that passes your way today. Beauty, love and kindness should come our way each day, don't you think?

The best to you all,

Gail

Pat: It's great to learn that your DH had a good medical report. I know it's thanks to you that he is doing so well. What are you doing for yourself. I know only too well how important it is for the caregiver to get some tlc every day.

Sandy: What do you do with the produce? Do you can, freeze, or just grow enough to use? Also, I was wondering if you might know if it's worthwhile to freeze milk. Here in Wisconsin milk is relatively inexpensive, but I cannot seem to use it fast enough. I've heard of people freezing it, have you? Boy, you and your DH sure were busy doing chores around the house. Good for you! It sounds like you guys are dynamos.

Nan: Hope you had a lovely weekend. Thanks so much for staying in touch during Vic's last weeks.

Pat - Sorry about Unstoppable. She was a great inspiration to all and she will be missed.

THEADMIRAL - Thank you for the encouragement. Hopefully I am not on them too long.

Gail - You are doing a great job at selling your items. We always hope to get a good price but, whatever we get is good as long as it is gone and we don't have it cluttering up the area we need to use. HA! emoticon I am proud of you for being able to do what you are doing as it has to be hard too. Hugs to you!

Nan - It sounds like you are having a great day with friends.

COOPERPENNY - I hope you got the clothes done before the rain hit. Would love some of that rain in the Northwest. We had a little but not expecting anything for Sept.

DH cleaned out the last of the tomatoes and some of the Bell peppers. Cleaned out the rest of the pots and put them in the shed. Started doing clean up for fall and winter. Will be checking around the windows this week. Fixed all the lights in the garage and outside. Cut back some of the trees. Will cut back the roses and butterfly plants next week. Have a list to get though before winter, also due to the fact that we have to go to California end of October to put the house on the market really puts a limit on what we can get done.

Hope everyone has a great week!

Hi everyone! It's been busy, but it's all good. Just popping in to see how everyone is doing before I watch a little TV with my sweetie.

I heard about Teresa's passing as well, such a shock because I didn't know she was ill (if that was the cause).

Pat, congratulations to your DH on the good medical report! And gentle hugs for the loss of a good Spark Friend.

SRIVERS, doggone that cholesterol! Here's hoping that you won't have to be on the medication for long once the numbers are good again.

Have a good evening, everyone!

Took DH to dr and most of his labs were in the good range so dr was happy. He had lost another 5 lbs since his visit in June so dr told him another 10-15 and he would be in the range he would like him to weigh. He had great cholesterol and triglycerides. Dr sent him for x-rays for his shoulder/neck pain and prescribed a steroid to see if that would help with the pain. He is limited on the meds that he can prescribe due to kidney problems.
I do not know how many of you knew Unstoppable (aka Tereasa) but I just found out that she passed away today. She was always such an inspiration to me and many others. I could always count on her leaving a poem or words of encouragement on my page so right now I am in a bit of a shock with this news. I know that I will truly miss her. She was really a wonderful inspiration.
As I always say, never miss a chance to tell your friends and family you love them as none of us know what tomorrow brings.

Gail I am sorry you aren't getting as much as you expected, but look at it this way, you are getting something and in a way it is found money. I am sure we will experience the same thing when we go to sell the rv.
I am working hard on walking a bit more every day and hopefully will get the book on the diet the dr wants me on and the cookbook that goes with it. I decided rather than buy them I would get them from the library. If I find I need tokk I can always purchase them. In the meantime, I can copy the main pages and recipes I like and save some $$$$.
Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Good Afternoon:

Well, I sold two motorcycles and two cars in a month. That's a lot. There is more room in the garage and I don't feel quite so frantic now that I have some place to maneuver. I'm not getting nearly as much as I had hoped to get, but whatever I get is something.

I'm about to step in the shower, and then relax with a nice cup of tea.

Hope you are all doing very well.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Gail, glad that you got to get away for a bit. It'll all get done. Just do a little everyday.

Last night the weatherman said it wouldn't rain until late Sunday night late. I got up early & began the wash. Then I turned on the news & it's raining not too far away & headed our way. So I had to dry the 2 loads I'd started & I did get the tops/shirts done & put on hangers on the back porch to dry but they're as wet as when I hung them out so I'll bring them inside to dry. We had to move the worm bed so Bill would have more space for the truck. . But it was working as we found several worms while digging the dirt out. At least we'll have enough concrete blocks to do the front porch in the spring.

It's really dark & getting cooler. Beginning to rain. Need to fold some clothes before the electric decides to go out.

Hope evryone has a good & safe day!

Got my test results back and my cholesterol went up even higher. But, my iron level is really low this time for some reason. I had complain to the doctor that I have been feeling really tired lately since my surgery and have been loosing a lot of hair. I am now on cholesterol medication and over the counter iron tablets. The iron I have only been taking for 3 days so i have not really noticed any difference yet. Can't wait for it to start to work.

My garden never really took off this year as we never really had a summer. Did get some tomatoes and bell peppers those. My herb garden did really good. So, I have plenty of herbs for the winter.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Hi everyone! Happy Friday evening!

It's been another beautiful fall day here. We are enjoying the weather so much here in Michigan! We also really like the discounts that we can get - my sweetie took me to breakfast a couple of weeks ago at ihop, filled out an on-line survey that entitled us to a big discount (or pancakes) there, went back on Sunday and he ended up paying under $2 for both of us. We just didn't get deals like that in northern Virginia.

Getting settled in, I made bread for the first time in a month, first time in the new house, now it's beginning to feel like home. We're still Washington Nationals' fans though, so we're looking forward to watching tonight's game in Atlanta!

Have a great evening!

Good Morning Everyone emoticon
emoticon My gardens are pretty much done for the year...a lonely hibiscus is blooming, sedum and Russian sage, morning glories and mums ...off the top of my head. emoticon It has been so dry here...new record for the driest in almost a quarter of a century! Temps are getting down in the low 40's at night now.

I am carrying in & out my basil, rosemary & some chives as well as my Jasmine, miniature rose and other house plants. emoticon I have taken my amaryllis down to the basement to dry and get ready to bloom for Christmas and taking my Christmas cactus down there today.

We plan to get a little more done on the bathroom this weekend, go to our Assistant Pastors birthday celebration and hopefully pick up the lights, medicine chest & fixtures for the bathroom.

I enjoyed sleeping with the window (singular) open last night...it was 44 this morning! Cuddles hurried to do her business and get back inside! Have a great day! Have a great weekend and do something fun! I get to see the grandkids and Cuddles is happy about that...she would much rather be with them than me!

UPDATE emoticon emoticon Scotts Fined! Scotts pleaded guilty in February 2012 to illegally applying insecticides to its wild bird food products that are toxic to birds, falsifying pesticide registration documents, distributing pesticides with misleading & unapproved labels, and distributing unregistered pesticides. Scotts Miracle Gro will pay $12.5 Million in Criminal Fine & Civil Penalties for violations of Federal Pesticide Laws! This is the largest criminal penalty under FIFRA to date.

“As the world’s largest marketer of residential use pesticides, Scotts has a special obligation to make certain that it observes the laws governing the sale & use of its products. For having failed to do so, Scotts has been sentenced to pay the largest fine in the history of FIFRA enforcement," said Ignacia S. Moreno, assistant attorney general for the Environment & Natural Resources Division of the Department of Justice.

Gail, I am so happy that you had a wonderful time. But, not surprise by the blessings you are receiving now. You did so much for Vic, and for others, that it is now your turn to receive the blessings. Welcome home. It is a lot of work after a loved one passes. Keep up the good work and hang in there.

Hope everyone has a great week!

Gail your post made me so happy. I was worrying about how you were doing so glad to know you got a much needed get away. How thoughtful that the manager gave you that upgrade as it sounds like that really made your getaway absolutely wonderful and gave you the rest and peace and quiet you needed.
I know dealing with all the red tape is hard, but just remember there is light at the end of the tunnel. Just do a little each day and before you know it, it will be done. That is what I did settling dad's estate-I decided each week what I wanted to tackle and sometimes it took several phone calls or letters to actually get an issue resolved but I eventually got thru it all. I don't remember it being so involved when dear DH #1 passed away but maybe that was because we didn't have much and life was much simpler nearly 25 years ago. I had some things in my name, but back then they didn't give me a hastle about putting accounts into my name at all.

Gail, I'm so glad that you were able to take this wonderful trip to Cancun. You really needed to be able to spend some time focused on just yourself. It was so nice of the manager to upgrade your room the way he did, what a blessing. I know that you've still got a lot of work ahead of you going through "stuff" and getting rid of most of it, and I know that you're still going to have some emotional issues as you continue on down this road you're travelling on. But I suspect (and hope) that things will be less difficult for you to handle now that you've gotten the chance to "recharge" yourself. emoticon emoticon emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

Here is a chuckle for you! I do believe Cuddles is building a skelton bone by bone...she has a pie of marrow bones different sizes 8 now that she carrys around but is now alternating with the mallard duck toy! This morning she spent time moving from the French Doors that are open...gazing at the birds bathing in her pink swimming pool, to the sofa in the livingroom where she watches the children walking down to the bus stop. She is a treasure and every so often a bit of puppy comes out of her. I picked up a 40ft tie out cable to go round the clothesline pole so she has a 40 ft diameter to explore while I am working in the yard. I have to do this because if I get busy, or she gets spooked she would be off and gone and I can not keep up with her! She runs as gracefully as a horse a beautiful gait! Well off to get something done but had to share!

Good Morning:

A couple of weeks after Vic's funeral I went away to rest and learn to sleep again. I got back from Cancun almost a week ago. Let me tell you my stay was long-needed and I had many blessings. The staff at the resort was so kind, patient and respectful. My room was nice and there was a balcony, but the view was blocked by the palm trees so I spent most of my time just sitting under a palapa on the beach, resting, listening to the surf and occasionally reading. (You may recall I visualized this often when I was going through rough times caring for Vic.) The thing of it was that though the beach wasn't crowded, I managed to sit near someone who either spoke so loudly I couldn't stand it, or someone who blasted a Spanish music station on the radio. Both times I moved.

On Monday I spoke to the director of the resort and complimented his staff. This is not something I do often, but in this case they were so wonderful I had to say something. They were taking such good care of me. I explained that I was just there to get away, learn to sleep again, and rest. He was genuinely happy that the staff was so helpful. I'm sure this was not something he heard daily. I added the next time I come I'll be sure to book a room overlooking the sea. Please understand I asked for nothing. This man got up and moved me to a sea view on the same floor as my room....gratis. I was so moved it was hard to hold back the tears. I spent Monday, Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday until I checked out in that room. The balcony had an unobstructed view of the sea and was open on two sides. The breeze was delightful and very therapeutic. Except for a about an hour in the morning it was shaded so I didn't have to worry about sunburn. The sand, the people on the beach were no longer an issue and I wound up spending all my time except for meals on that balcony. I sat and read, listened to the surf, watched the birds and saw the ever-present sun shining on the ocean. Oh, and the balcony also had a jacuzzi. I spent hours in the jacuzzi resting and listening to the birds and surf. It was so what I needed. On Thursday morning I awoke early enough to see the sun rise. It was spectacular and moved me very much. How many blessings I had. Of course, I wrote a thank you to the manager before I left and let him know just how much his gesture meant to me. This was such a very special get-away.

I've been back to the tasks at hand, and there are very many. Last week I sold the Nissan but I've still got the 2012 Ford Fusion (64 miles) and the Suzuki motor cycle to sell. Also am busy and preparing to sell two pianos, many music scores, books, etc. On a daily basis I've been bringing over boatloads of Vic's clothes...mostly new stuff... to the hospice thrift shop. Also, my washing machine went on the blink so I'm dealing with that too. Lucky me, the extended warranty runs out Oct. 1.

Coping with red tape after the death of a spouse is daunting. If you are married, be sure you know where your marriage certificate is and put it where you can easily get hold of it. You cannot start the process for getting his/her social security if you do not have it. Same thing if you are divorced. Keep your divorce papers. Another thing is to be sure that ALL accounts, investments, bills etc are in BOTH names. Charter wouldn't even speak to me because my name wasn't on the account. You will never know all the aggravation I've been through getting things sorted out. I'll get Vic's September social security and pension along with his October ones in October. Fortunately, I have enough savings to avoid cash flow problems. I'm not nearly done with it all but I've made great progress.

I'm trying to take good care of myself and have kept busy. Yesterday I scheduled an appointment with a counselor. I do get weepy almost every day but I guess that's to be expected. This is a very difficult journey, and no matter how you prepare for it you're never ready.

Hope you are all doing well.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Even in Florida we are getting a bit of the cooler weather-highs in the upper 80's for the next several days and the humidity is to go down so looking forward to that. It has been in the mid 70s when I am walking early in the morning and that isn't bad but looking forward to the 60's=soon I hop!!!

It got down to 49 last night. I'd left all my windows open & didn't want to get up this morning. 75 was our high today. This morning was like an England fog - really spooky. Had to wait until noon to mow as the grass was really wet. But a lot of stuff I'd thought had died is coming back now that we're getting some rain & the days are cooler. We're hoping for a really snowy & cold winter. Snowy so we'll get the moisture & cold so it'll kill the pests.

Hope everyone had a good & safe day!

Welcome to all of our new members. It's really great to have you with us.

Supposedly it was only 79 degrees here today. I'll take that without even complaining, which you all know is pretty rare for me. emoticon This morning it was 55 degrees and I actually turned my cooler off for part of the day. I could live with this if these temps stay around, that's for sure. Hopefully the heat of summer is over and done with now, though there's still time for an Indian summer to come kick my butt again. I hope we don't have a super cold winter because I hate to drive on ice and snow when it's still dark outside in the morning. I'm never really fully awake when I leave for work at 4:45 so I'm not always up to paying really close attention to the road conditions and don't like it when they're slick. Guess I'll just have to wait and see how things go...

Anyway, I'm really glad that most of the country seems to be done with the super high temperatures for this year. Even my parents in Tucson aren't having to deal with 100 degree heat right now, thank goodness. I hope that Kurt pops his head in soon to let us know that he's okay. Everyone enjoy the end of the weekend. I hope the new week starts out well for all of us.

There was much rejoicing!

I've been wondering the same thing - No one heard from Kurt? It has been awhile.

DH and I had a really nice day today with friends. We all went out on our friends boat and went around Lake Washington for the day and then went out to dinner afterwards. It was a lot of fun. It wasn't too hot. So, I was happy about that. We are suppost to get rain Monday - hopefully.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Has anyone heard from Kurt? I hope that he's OK.

We had a bad storm last night. The one before had 60 mph winds. The one last night wasn't as bad. But we really needed the rain. Things are beging to come back again. Some I had thought died because of the drought. We're still under the rain amount that is normal for us.We got doen in the upper 40's last night & supposed to be 75 this afternoon. The people around us are saying that we're going to have an early winter.

Vali, my cat does that once in a while. She wants my attention. She'll also get up on the bed & pat my face with her paw or sit beside the bed & call for me. I keep the dried food in a self feeding container & when it runs out she'll let me know. They (there's 2 cats) get a can of wet food a day when I get up. They share it.

Ordered Bill some re-blooming Iris for his b-day. They're supposed to be getting here soon. He loves Iris. We got all of them trimmed & the beds really look good now.

Frosty, you're always upbeat!

Hope everyone has a good & safe day!

Hi everyone! We had rain all night and on/off again this morning, but we took a tandem bike ride after the sun stayed out. It's cool today, in the mid-60's. Might be typical for western Michigan, but since we just moved here from Michigan, it feels cool and refreshing - love it!

We visited the farmers' market in Holland while on our ride, and I can tell that I should do most if not all of my weekly grocery shopping at the farmers' market. It's twice a week so I can go on Wednesdays before I go to the grocery store. I hope I can make good use of the market while the weather permits it.

Have a great day!

Wish we had some rain here in the Northwest. We have been without rain for 48 days now. Today was 85 and it really felt like it. For us in the Northwest we are not use to this type of hot weather. Really looking forward to it dropping back down to the Mid 60's or the low 60's. Also looking forward to the Fall.

MZDOOR - Hope you have great fun and make good money at your yard sale tomorrow.

Hi everyone! It's raining hard in western Michigan this evening. We're still getting settled in our house, so I'm not doing much other than unpack, figure out where to put stuff, then later try to remember where I put that stuff. emoticon Since we've been in our house only two weeks, it's been easy to keep an eye on what's in the refrigerator and freezer right now. I usually do pretty well with that, but always good to be reminded to keep checking to see what's trying to grow in there!

Have a great evening, everyone!

Hope your garage sale goes great and you make the extra $$$$ you need.
I got to go to some thrift stores today and got the items I need to make a garden whimsy-I saw one in a garden shop and they wanted $45 for it, I spent less than $10 so here is hoping I can get it made right!!!

Have a great weekend.

I've had a busy week. I decided to have a garage sale this saturday (tomorrow!) on a whim. We could use the extra cash and everywhere i looked in my house I saw dollars signs. Hopefully it will be cooler than it has been and hopefully I'll make a few bucks.

I got another 5 gallon bucket of weeds pulled after my walk this morning and most of the rest of the day was spent organizing for my finance committee meeting and then going for the meeting and as secretary, I had to take the minutes and need to type them up but they will save for another day!
Sometimes it seems like I just got up and now it is time for bed-where does the time go???

Sad to say my Freezer is pretty empty so,it's easy to clean right now. Not, doing a lot of cooking due to my hand. Did clean the refig out.

Took DH to doctors today for his anxiety due to his ringing in his ears all the time. He will see a specialist for the problem to see what is going on. He has seen otolaryngolgist already. But, his primary care doctor wants him to see an ENT.

I have a Dentist appt. tomorrow. PT is going good. Doc wants me to continue as he said it will take the nerves 9 months to heal. So, I have a while.

Hope everyone is having a great week.

I did a lot of freezer cleaning before we left on vacation. Now I am trying to use what was still left before I do any major restocking. We are trying to eat less meat which is a help to the budget. I plan to go to the Farmer's Market on Saturday and buy some fresh veggies. That is one nice thing about living in Fl.

I do that a lot myself, which is bad because my freezer is really tiny and the stuff in the back that wasn't getting used was reeeeaaally old. I took everything out, threw a bunch of stuff away, and started trying to use my poor little freezer in a more organized manner. So far it's working... (I'll have to let you know next month if it still is...)

The fridge is easier to keep pretty tidy because even though it's also kind of small, I can see what's in it every time I open the door. It's been staying pretty well organized, which is good because I really can't afford to be wasting food right now.

There was much rejoicing!

Today I cleaned fridge and freezer, also made an inventory of what was in the freezer.
.I just keep throwing stuff in there and only take items out from the front, Nan

We're still adjusting to a smaller income, but over the long weekend we did very well. I mentioned a limit i'd like to stay under and we did! We are finding cheaper and even more fun ways to save save save!

My goals for September are to try to get back to losing weight again, get more sleep than I got in August, and try (that's a functional word here) to train Little Very Bad Girl Kitty to NOT jump on the bed and run across me in the middle of the night for attention anymore. (She's been really bad about that for a couple of weeks and she either has to learn not to do that or MOVE OUT!!)

I hope the months starts out well for everyone. emoticon

Hi everyone! Our move to Michigan was successful, we're box free on the main level and I'm working my way through the few boxes downstairs. We're enjoying our new house and I'm celebrating that I made dinner tonight! Love having those pots and pans, etc. available again for healthy meals instead of going out every day.

My goal for September is to eat healthy within my nutrition range every day and exercise at least ten minutes every day. Getting back to the basics after a disruptive August.

Have a great holiday weekend!

Hi everyone, I am finally back!! I will blog about this trip soon. Still trying to get it all together after being gone 2 months.
My plans for the month are to continue to slowly lose the weight-I actually lost 8 lbs on vacation so want to continue that trend. I go to my dr for my 6 mo checkup mid-Sept so hoping for a good report.
