Nan - You are too funny.emoticon

I got my blood drawn today for my cholesterol to see if it's gone down with diet and exercise and by taking 2000mg of fish oil. Doctor will call if it is still high and put me on medication. Otherwise she will send me a letter in the mail.

Also, saw the hand doctor today. That went well. He was happy with how I was doing but, wanted me to continue to do PT for a while due to the arthritis and all the work he did to the hand. He going to write a letter for me to give to my Insurance company do to my special circumstance with my hand. The nervous will take up to 9 months to heal and start to respond correctly with no stiffness. So, I have a while.

All in all I am happy with everything. I hope that all of you have a safe and wonderful Labor Day weekend. Please say prayers for those that are in the way of Isacc.

A study was done of why some women like Chinese food so much.
The study revealed that this is due to the fact that

Penny, I did try the dryer sheets and they did indeed keep the ants away from the kitty food bowl. I also did two really good moppings of the kitchen floor, which pretty much got rid of all of them. (Not just the perfunctory floor moppings I usually do, mind you. I used a heavy duty cleaner for these two moppings and just kept the kitties out of the kitchen until the floor was dry.)

I got most of the things done that I wanted to this weekend. The rest will wait until the coming weekend without my world ending. I went to have my yearly mammogram today. I've been getting them yearly since I was about 40 because my mom was diagnosed with breat cancer at that time. This one was the least unpleasant one I've ever had. (Thank goodness! I've never enjoyed having my extra large coffee cup sized boobs smashed into a petite little tea cup.emoticon) Now I'm safe for another year...

There was much rejoicing!

Gail - don't blame you for not wanting to leave stuff behind for your kids. I had so mush to go through when my Mother passed. I am now going through my own to make sure also that they don't have to.

Nan - Glad you had a good time.

Vali - Did you get everything done that you wanted to?

I see my doctor tomorrow for my high cholesterol to see where it is at.

Hope all of you have great week!

Gail, you'll make it. I agree with you about not leaving stuff for your kids to deal with, that's one of the reasons we're going thru stuff now.

Vali, did you try the dryer sheets for the ants in the kitty food? It really works for me.

We got 1 1/2 inches of rain last night & it looks like it could pour again at any minute. The humity is really high. I put off weeding my fence garden until tomorrow. Bill's out in the craft room going thru some more of his stuff. He gets so excittied when he finds something he'd forgotten that he had. He's finding out that he DOES have more stuff out there than I do! But we're still going to take a lot of it to the auction. He doesn't have to be prodded into going out there as he looks forward to seeing what he can find.

Hope everyone has a good & safe day!

Good Morning:

Yesterday I went through Vic's things in the downstairs bathroom. I couldn't believe what he had stashed there. Oh, well, more stuff to donate to the charity shops. The house got cleaned from top to bottom and that always makes me feel good. I've got to reset my goals, for though I love a clean house, I don't need to have the insides of the windows cleaned, all the knobs, phones, etc sanitized weekly, and so forth. I got some help and started on the garage. Didn't do too much but it was a start and that felt good. A friend took me to lunch and another will take me out today. That is good.

I guess this isn't exciting stuff, but getting it out of the way is progress. I WON'T leave my kids with this. When I die there will be precious little to worry about.

Sending hugs to you all.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Our Plans for the weekend is to take it easy. DH has slept well lately due to his tinnitus. We saw a doctor for the problem today who say he can help him. Technology has come a long way. He has tried all the over the counter pills and they didn't help. My poor DH was so nervous and worried about what the doctor was going to say. The good news is that he will probably just need a hearing aid that will give off a low frequency in his ear but, he will still be able to hear conversation. It was very interesting. The doctor was wonderful and we were very happy. It answered all DH's questions which has relaxed him a lot. We found out it causes anxiety & depression which he has been going though for a while and didn't understand while. Now, he does and is getting medication to help him.

So, all in all we are going to take it easy and go see my Uncle and Aunt.

I hope all of you have a great weekend.

1) Sleep past 3:00 both mornings. I usually can't sleep past 7:00 or 7:30 on the weekends, but that's still such a luxury for me these days.

2) Clean all the old (crap) out of my tiny little freezer

3) Cook some new (not crap) to freeze in containers and take to work for my lunches. I'm going to make lasagna in my crock pot and then cook another chicken. I bought a pot roast today but I forgot to buy the veggies to cook with it so it's going to have to wait until next weekend to be cooked.

Other than that I'm just going to watch a NASCAR race tomorrow evening and play with my poor neglected (according to them) kitties.

There was much rejoicing!

So, I finally blued dried my hair on my own for the first today. And cried the whole way though it. It was the hardest thing for me to do with my right hand. But, I did it. It wasn't the best job but, it looked pretty good. DH said I looked beautiful no matter what. I usually just pull it back.

Had a nice day with DH just running errors and we had lunch. The weather has changed and it is now much cooler it has gone down to the mid 60's. We are enjoying it.

Hope all of you have a great weekend.

Hello Friends,
Gail I am so sorry about Vic. You do need to let your kids help you. When you lose a loved one it is hard to even think straight as I was after my mom died and your kids can be a big helpt to you. You are not a burden to them and they want to help you. You just need a break. Take a vacation sonewhere for a few days or do sonetthng just for yourself. Vic will always be watching over you and be there for you and your kids just a prayer away. God is watching over your family and we are all praying for you. God bless you in yourt tiime of grief.

My family is doing well. The 14th was my son's 28th bitrhday so I am taking him out to eat and to a movie on Sat so that will be fun. Hard to believe my kids are 29 and 28 with a 24 year old daughter in law and my 29 year old daughter has my aolmost 5 year old granddaughter. They all just grow up so fast! Well take care everyone!

Gail - It is a lot to go though. But, your kids would want to be there to help to. You are not a burden but, there Mother that they love. I know how you feel but, don't feel you have to do all yourself. You never know they may know a way of solving some of your problems and saving you money. Think about. Vic is always going to be with you and watching out for you. So, I am not surprise that you still feel him around you.

My heart is breaking for you and I wish so much that I could be there to give you a big hug and help you. But, since I can't I'll send you a Big Hug. Sweetie we are all here for you and you are our family. Please take care. We love you!

Dearest Friends:

These past several days have been very difficult. I'm still numb and weepy, and I still strongly feel Vic's presence, especially when I look at pictures of him. I've been keeping to myself most of the time, except for the practical things I need to do which involve contact with others.

I'm overwhelmed with all the things I need to sell. I'll be taking a hit on the new car. I also have to sell a motorcycle and a 1995 Nissan both of which are in good repair and have no dents, scratches or rust. I've worked out an arrangement with a local bookseller and will be getting a small percent of their value, but he will be doing all the work selling them on line or off the shelf in his store. Of course, there is also the two pianos to sell. I don't even want to imagine the money I'll lose on that.

Yesterday was terrible. I went to the Social Security office to file for Vic's check. Since his income was greater than mine I'll be taking his SS and giving up mine. The SS computers at the local office were screwed up, and as a result they never called me to speak with a specialist . I finally said something after seeing others who arrived later than I were called to speak to a specialist. They asked if I had my marriage certificate. God only knows where it is. Before I meet with them I need to get an official copy from the city of NY. I could not process the instructions from the NY city website and will need to call them to find out what I must do. All this is too much for me. This afternoon I cried bitterly. Everyone has offered to help but at this stage there isn't too much they can do.

I keep telling myself I'll be all right, but it's really getting to me about how much is being lost on the sale of all the things I need to get rid of. I will not, under any circumstances, leave this mess to my kids. It's too great a burden. Also, after all I've been through, I will not let them care for me should I require round the clock or long term care. They have called me every day and would be only too happy to help me but I don't want to burden them and will only call for help on big things. My sil is taking care of selling the vehicles and for that I am so grateful.

I've not posted since Vic's death because there is not much good news to report. That being said, the funeral was very moving and things went very smoothly. I am so glad that is behind me, so glad.

Thank you for the condolences...they mean so much to me.

Sending you all many hugs,

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Dear Friends:

Victor passed away on Wednesday morning. Helena, our daughter, and I were at his side in our home. The funeral was Friday morning and Helena wrote a beautiful eulogy which she delivered at the funeral. I'm sad but also very relieved. I don't know how long I would have been able to go on giving him medication around the clock to keep him comfortable. Hospice was wonderful and sent an RN to work a 12 hour shift so I could try to get some sleep. She came on Tuesday night, and as I mentioned, he died Wednesday morning.

I'm going to take care of the necessary legal stuff and then will go away to rest for a while. I'm still not sleeping well, though last night I slept 6 hours.

Thank you for your prayers and support throughout. How fortunate I have been to have you all.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Well, I'm having trouble finding consistency in my workouts. Three times this week, I've missed both cardio and strength training. I made up the strength training, but I couldn't make up the cardio. Well, there's always next week, right? I'm doing the 28-day Bootcamp videos from Coach Nicole and they're fun. No change in weight or inches just yet, but it's just the first week. We'll see how it goes next week. :)

I hope everyone is having a great August. I go back to work Monday, getting my room ready. School starts on the 27th. Our first official "teacher contract" day is Thursday, August 23--my birthday, of all days. sigh... Oh, well. Disneyland after school, maybe. :)

Take care! :)

That's incredible news! I know that it wasn't easy for you to make that fist, and I know that you must be very proud of yourself and the progress you've made since your surgery. The next time you make a fist it won't be quite as hard, and pretty soon you'll just be making fists whenever you feel like it with hardly any effort at all.emoticon

I took my violin in to the shop to get it fixed up about a month ago. Somehow I didn't give them my address or my phone number (silly me) and so they couldn't contact me to tell me that it was ready to be picked up. So on Friday I picked it up but I didn't try to play it until yesterday. I sounded just awful! (Big shock...I hadn't played it in about 15 years...) Today I went by and bought a tuning fork, which cost me about $6. I found out that the A string is tuned to what I would have thought was B flat! (Half a tone off)emoticonSo I guess I've only got relative pitch and not perfect pitch, but who the heck cares?? I've got my violin back and sooner or later I'll actually be able to use it to make music instead of just picking around at scales and trying to find the right notes.emoticon

Ok, so I had to share this as I am so happy. I had PT today and I final was able to make a fist on my own without using my other hand to help it. And I use my right hand to eat my food. emoticon

OK, I know that it's not a lot, but I am making progress.

Weather here is warming up in the Northwest. It is to get into the 90's by weeks end.emoticonemoticon Not looking forward to it.

Hope everyone has a great week.

Good Afternoon:

Well, Vic made it through the night. Right now he's watching...listening to... the cable news regarding Romney's pick of Ryan as his VP. I'm so sick of politics and wish we could go back to the Clinton years when there was job growth, prosperity, and the largest fiscal surplus ever.

G.

Enjoy each day.

Good Morning:

Tomorrow is our 49th anniversary and I'm holding my breath. Vic's quality of life has been poor the past several days. He has a cough (from fluid in the heart sac) and has been having bladder spasms. His appetite is gone...again...and he's been depressed. He hasn't eve watched TV, read, played the piano or been on the iPad. He's best when he sleeps, and the past couple of days that's been a lot. Last night, for the first time, I dreamed about death and dying. In my dream I knew there was going to be a fatal air crash and I went to the airport and ran up to flight staff telling them to be sure to call their loved ones to tell them how much they love them.

Thanks again and again for your love and prayers.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Good Morning:

I'm holding on, but barely. Vic is getting weaker. He has a cough and has been having bladder spasms for the past several days, and has all but stopped eating....again. Yesterday he was very depressed. I can do no more for him than I am already doing, but it doesn't seem nearly enough. I wonder if he will make it through the weekend. Saturday is our 49th wedding anniversary and if he lives that long it will be our last. Only a true miracle can save him now, but I'm not counting on it. He has already had many miracles and appears to have used them up. My heart is breaking. It's so hard to be around him and not go to pieces.

Thank you once again for your thoughts, good wishes and prayers. You are sustaining me through this difficult time.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Gail - I am so very sorry about Vic. My Prayer and Thoughts are with you both.

I'm sorry that I haven't been around things have been crazy. We had a great time seeing my cousin. It was the first time that DH got to meet them. We all got along really great and had funny. DH's friend left also. Now, I am cleaning up.

PT is going really well. Slow, but good. They have me wearing what is called edema glove to help with the swelling. It seems to be helping. I am starting to be able to do a little more than I was before.

Had 90degree weather last weekend. Now, it is much cooler . DH out playing Golf and I am doing laundry and some cleaning. At least what I can.

I hope that everyone has a great week!

Gail, my prayers are with you & Vic. Take care of yourself.

While Bill weed eated the orchard (we're trying to get white clover started there) I weeded the flower bed above the fish pond. They say we'll have rain this afternoon but it doesn't look like it. we did get over 2 inches Saturday. Lucked out & didn't get the strong winds. But it's really humid today but the temps in the mid 90's.

Hope everyone has a good & safe day!

Gail,it sounds like Vic is more or less comfortable and I'm happy to hear that. Take care of that cold. Neither one of you needs pheumonia right now. Drink a lot of OJ and hot tea, take a whole lot of vitamin C, and try to get enough sleep. I don't want to sound cold (so please, please forgive me if I do) but we all know that Vic is not going to get better. You, on the other hand, must try to stay as healthy as you are able, both so that you will be able to be there for Vic and also so that you will be able to be there for YOURSELF, too. You are both in my prayers. ((((((((((Gail))))))))))

Hello Friends,
Gail- You have been so strong for all of us with Vic and I know you will continue to take care of him. I know it is not easy. My Mom died last year and I was the one taking care of her the most to the point I absoulutly wore out myself and exhausted myself. Please take care of yourself too as much as you can. You are a very strong woman and both of you are in my prayers and I hope he is in the least pain he can be in. Love to both of you!

I got a new doctor and she sent me for a cirulation test for my Diabetes and it came back good so I was happy to hear that. Diabetes took my grandparents and my Mom's life so I need to do a better job of taking care of myself so I don't end up the same way. I found my Weight Watchers stuff and my swim suit so i can swim and start back on WW. I have to go to a meeting so I can get a new calculator and figure my points. Hope everyone has a great day!

Good Morning:

Things are a bit better at home than they were in the hospital for both Vic and me. He's been sleeping a lot and watching the Olympics. I am able to sleep much better in bed than on the hospital chair. I caught a cold yesterday and have been walking around with a mask and washing my hands VERY often. The last thing he needs is a cold which would surely turn to pneumonia.

I want to thank you all for your support, love and prayers. You all mean so much to me and I surely wouldn't be able to do as well as I am without you.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

First, Gail: I'm sorry about Vic. I hope his journey is as painless as it can possibly be. Hugs!

I have a question about reporting my cardio minutes. I live near Disneyland in California, and we go a lot (I have an annual pass). Whenever I'm there, I walk the half mile from the parking garage to the front of the park, or to the Monorail Station--same distance. When I'm in the park, I don't take the trains or the street cars--I walk. For hours. I ride the Monorail back into Downtown Disney, then walk the half mile back to the garage. How do I report this? If I report by time, it's an average of 4 hours or more per visit. But, that doesn't make sense to me, since I'm not running. Do any of you have an idea on how to report this in an accurate fashion? I'm not running, I'm strolling through crowds, standing in queues, and riding rides. What do you all think?

Thanks! :)

I wish that I could take some of this pain from you, or at least help you to carry this burden. You have been so strong for so long, and you have helped Vic to have a life worth living through this whole trial. Please do your best to take care of yourself and get at least a little bit of rest so that you can continue to be strong. You and Vic are both in my thoughts and prayers.

There was much rejoicing!

I had to bring Vic into the hospital ER Thursday evening. He was having trouble breathing. They ran several tests and discovered he has fluid in the sac surrounding the heart. They could drain the fluid, but it's risky because his platelets and white cell count are so low. Right now, after a dose of morphine yesterday, he is breathing easily and is in no pain or discomfort. If the fluid builds up to the point where it effecting heart function they will drain the sac. This is palliative, not curative care. He's sad and a bit afraid, but we spoke of death and dying and he appears better.

I slept in the hospital two nights in a row. Yesterday Vic got two pints of blood and then sent him home. That's where he wants to be. If I cannot care for him he'll go into the inpatient hospice unit and I will stay there with him. They have a sofa bed in the patient rooms so family can stay over.

The prognosis is as bad as it can get. They don't know exactly when he will expire but we are talking days or weeks. Vic and I had a long talk yesterday. The thing that he fears is not seeing me any more. I will stay with him till the end. I will go out for a bit on when the hospice volunteer comes so as not to worry him, but I think four hours is too long to leave his side.

Please keep us in your thoughts.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

I spoke with my health coach today. She suggested having a physical and in 4 weeks. I already have an appointment with my cardiologist in 3 weeks. It looks like August will be a busy month for me. I did get in some exercise today. I went to Curves and also spent 45 minutes the pool. Prior to that I had to run errands including picking up Lipitor to control my cholesterol.

I'm hoping that I can finally get rid of the plateau I've been on for the last few months. I've dropped my carbs % to around 45 and I think it's working. We'll see.

We've been having a drought and temps over 100 here in Arkansas and I'm hoping that August will bring a bit cooler temps and hopefully some rain.

Life is good, my cooler works again.emoticon

I'm exhausted because I've stayed up 3 to 4 hours past my bedtime these last 2 nights to watch coverage of the Olympics. Tonight is the last night that I'll "have" to do that so tomorrow I'll probably come home from work and go straight to bed.emoticon

I've got a weird new health issue that started over the weekend. I've got something that feels like sciatica (which I've had before) in my left leg, but it only travels down almost to my knee. That's kind of strange, but I'm thankful that whatever it is doesn't cause me more trouble. I've already got an appointment for my yearly doctor's appointment on the 17th so if whatever it is is still bothering me at that time I'll talk to him about it. I figure that if that's the worst thing going on in my life right now, I'll probably be okay.

I hope that the rest of you are staying cool and having a great summer.

I am going to continue my PT on my hand and eat healthy. DH & I are going to go out and see our son in Calif. probably in mid Sept. After the kids are back in school and after doctor's appts. and company leave. Our last company is to come in Sept., we think the second week.

My Uncle will be home from rehab and will have a nurse helping my Aunt while she is at work. So, it will work out good. We will only be gone for about a total of 10 days.

Hope everyone has a great week.
