Darla, I much prefer the books Nora Roberts wrote as JD Robb to the ones she wrote under her real name, but to each his own. I think you'll enjoy them whenever you get around to reading them. I had to give up on the library because my late husband checked out a book about Nazis with my library card and then decided not to take it back. Then he died and I simply do not want to own that awful book. I saw it when my ex DH and I were moving out of the apartment that my late DH and I lived in but we didn't have a lot of time so I'm sure it got packed in a box. I think I saw it one other time after ex DH and I had moved but I don't currently have any idea where it is. I do NOT want to own this book so I'm not going to pay for it, just wait until I find it...again...and give it back to the library system. Then I'll be able to get a new library card...think it's gonna be a while yet...

We got one day of reduced humidity out of our major rain storm two days ago, but this afternoon it was miserably humid again. emoticon We got a tiny little bit of rain, but nothing that one could actually call a storm. Oh well, tomorrow's another day...

I'm supposed to go to a concert at the biopark this evening but I'm really exhausted, and it's an outdoor concert and we keep getting little spits of rain. The ticket only cost me $10 so I think I'm just going to miss this concert and go to bed early. What an exciting life I live.

emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

Hello Friends,
I dont' make it to the computer as much anymore because I have to walk a long ways from my apt up to the office to use the computers. I did find my Weight Watchers book today and my swim suit. I have a public pool in a park across the street from me so now I can go swim and start back on my Weight Watchers. I had to go and do a circulation test for my Diabetes the other day and will find out the results on the 31st when I see my Doctor again. I hope it is all okay. my legs and feet to hurt a lot so we will see how they are. I love to read too. Nora Roberts is my favorite author and i have not read her JD Robb books yet. I have a lot of books I brought from Oklahoma down here and Catilin my daughter in law's mother also sent me a lot of romance books. I never remember to take my books back to the library on time so I have some to take back and I think I am just not going to do that anymore. I end up just paying too much in fines and now it is a long ways to the library on the bus so it is better for me to just read the books I have. Glad everyone is doing so well and keep up the good work! Darla

Good Morning:

With the drought in the country we can expect food prices to go up in the near future by something like 5%. That according to a piece on the national news yesterday. The corn crop is especially hard hit and that will effect everything. Anybody have strategies for coping with this?

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Hey, congrats Kristen! I hope that little monkey stays healthy until the appointed time for it to come out and meet the world. Take good care of both of you. emoticon emoticon

We FINALLY got some decent rain here this afternoon. emoticon I heard a lot of thunder for a while and then we got about 15 minutes of kind of light rain. Then I heard a bunch of THUNDER and it started coming down really hard. It was great. We haven't had a rain storm like that in my area for the last couple of summers, and I'll bet that we've finally made it up over 2 inches of total rainfall for this year. emoticon Now if we could just keep this up for a little while...

I'm not having nearly the problem I was with the ants in my kitchen. (Thank goodness!) I did kind of a quickie mopping job in the kitchen and then I put dryer sheets all the way around the kitty feeder, and now most of the ants are gone. emoticon There are still a few ants around but it's obvious that they aren't very fond of the dryer sheets. Of course, they may come back when the cooler (low to mid 90s) weather we've had for the last few days is over and it's really hot again. (They only showed up when we'd been up around 100 degrees every day for a little while.) I'm going to do a much better job of mopping this weekend when I've got the time and a little more energy and hopefully that and the dryer sheets will keep things okay for a while. Now my only problem is that the feeder may be overfeeding the kitties. (It's only supposed to say "Kitties, time to eat!" 3 times but today while I was giving myself my shot I really think I heard the darn thing call them to eat about 10 or 12 times! Gotta figure that out...)

Sandy, I'm pleased to hear that your recovery from the surgery seems to be going well. Keep up the good PT work. It will all be worth it in the end.

I hope that everyone is having a really great week.

There was much rejoicing!

Good afternoon everyone!

I've been busy for the past few days being social and trying to get out of my house as much as possible. Where we don't have a car it's not always easy to get out when we would like so we took advantage of my dad being away for the weekend and leaving his car with us.

Had an ultra sound yesterday! I have what appears to be a healthy little monkey growing within me!!

Hope everyone has been well!

Cheers!
Kristen

Welcome BAYBNJOE to the Team chat. Nice to have you join in.

Saw the doctor today for my hand follow up. Spoke to him about the what the PT and I thought was a cord cord popping out. Doctor said NO! He said he had done a lot of work and that it will take time for the swelling to go down. But, that he is very pleased with the progress that I am making.

DH's back is almost back to normal. He is doing much better and is feeling good. He is going to try to play golf Wednesday with his buddies something he has had planned for a while. He just wants out of the house I think.

His cousin left today. We had a nice afternoon with her. We went to lunch and down to Pikes Market and walked around. Which was good for both of us , especially me since I had not been out in a little while.

Next company arrive July 31st for 2 days. My cousin comes in August 2nd just for the day. Then my other cousin comes in Sept. some time. Then we are going to head down to see our son. I tired just thinking about it. emoticon

I hope everyone has a great week. Gail, good to hear that things are going good for you.I say a prayer for you and Vic every night. Hugs and Kisses to you both.

The trick is to chill the beaters and bowl in the FRIDGE not the freezer. Also make sure the eggs are cold from the fridge. I had a sliver, just to taste, and it was fine. But next time I'll have my measuring stuff out so I don't make the same mistake with the water.

I've only tried merengue once, and it weeped on me. Yucky little blobs of vanilla all over the surface of the pie. I don't exactly know how to avoid that. Luckily lemon merengue pie isn't a family super favorite, we've ben getting by on restaurant versions. Polly's Pies in California--yum!! But, I would like to try it again. :)

Good Morning:

Yesterday I made lemon meringue pie for Vic. I did something different to enhance the meringue: I put the bowl and beaters in the freezer. NOT. When I went to whip the egg whites it splattered all over the place. YUK...and I had just washed the kitchen floor. Next time I'll know better and will just put them in the fridge. I read and reread the recipe, but stupid me, I wasn't careful and used a 3/4 C to measure the water instead of a 1 C. Vic liked the pie and ate a big piece. The lemon was somewhat sweeter and thicker, but he liked it. In any case, I had to whip up three more egg whites so now I have 3 extra egg yokes. Any suggestion as to what I can do with them?

Hope you all stay safe and cool.

Gail

Penny: I too read books in order of publication. It makes a huge difference. I haven't read the Robb books but will look into them. Thanks for mentioning it. I never buy books but use the library exclusively.

Tomorrow I'm going to take a suggestion from a friend in another group. I'm going to lock the kitties in one of the bedrooms and spray bug spray on the kitchen floor. Then after all the little buggers have stopped moving around I'll mop the floor so that the girls won't eat some dumb thing off the floor and poison themselves. (Little Very Bad Girl would do that. She'll put anything she finds on the floor in her mouth and try to eat it. Other than that she's a very smart little thing, but that particular habit could get her killed if I don't lock her in another room while I do this.) After that I will definitely put dryer sheets around their automatic feeder. I'm really hoping that these steps will keep the ants away because I don't want to have to get the exterminator in here and put the kitties in a kitty hotel for a few days. After all of that, I'm still going to try to find some diatomaceous earth to put around the edges of the apartment and try to keep the little critters out in the future.

There was much rejoicing!

Vali, I put some dryer sheets around my auto-feeder for my cats. I think I found it in a Jerry Baker book. He has several really great books out dealing with daily living problems. Anyway, I haven't had any ant since I did it & the cats don't bother the sheets. It might work for you. There's times when I don't turn on anything & sometimes I just put on "mood" music to have a back ground sound. I get depressed enough with out the radio or TV on. Bill has the TV on all the time in the den. So there's always some noise. I like it when we can open the windows & hear the birds. But with the heat we can't do that. at least for a while.

Gail, I was given the whole set of Anne Perry books when I worked at the book store a few years ago. Both Monk & Thomas & Charlotte Pitt. I haven't began them but have gotten the series up to date. I gues I'm being werid but I like to read a series in order. I just loved the J D Robb series & spent a week or more reading it. I try to use reading as a reward for getting something done.

We've been having the 3 diget temp days & no rain. A lot of wells are going dry. We try to do what we can early in the morning but lately it hasn't been that cool & the humitiy is really bad. Today I dived in & did some deep cleaning. I think doing one room at a time is going to be my plan. Then we did 8 gallons of tomatoes & 1 gallon of squash for the freeser. Bill wants to make some tomato sauce late and of course, some salsa.

Hope everyone is OK & being safe.

Gail, I started playing the violin when I was 6 years old and I played it up until my MS was diagnosed when I was 31. I've tried a few times since then and been just horrified by how bad I sounded, but now it's time to really put some effort into trying to do it again.

As for the ants, I occasionally have a few but for the last week there have been a LOT of them. someone has suggested to me that it could have something to do with my cooler finally working, which means more moisture in the air in my apartment. The only thing they are at all interested in is the automatic feeder for my cats, which frequently has uneaten dry cat food in it. If I can't deal with the problem in the next couple of days then I'll have to stop using the automatic feeder, which would make me very sad.

When my first DH was alive he used to make me crazy with the TV on whenver he was awake. Mainly what made me crazy was always having it on some kind of political program...and yelling at the politicians on the TV. (Like they could hear him... emoticon ) After he died I started leaving the TV on because I just couldn't take he silence, but now I'm thinking that I may just have to turn it off because I can't deal with what I'm hearing anymore. First it's nonstop election BS, and now it's nonstop about this mass shooting in Colorado. I want to know what's going on...but I don't need to hear nearly this much about it. It's just too sad. I'm thinking about leaving cartoons on for the noise value and staying the heck away from the news.

So anyway, I hope that the rest of you are having a wonderful weekend. Get out and do something fun before you have to start the grind over again on Monday. emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

Good Morning:

Val: I'd go nuts if the ants took over my kitchen. I had a few this year...literally about 10-15...and smashed them on site. I keep the kitchen clean and sanitized and never leave dirty dishes or food around, so I think that helps a lot. My daughter had lots of them this year and said that what I had was hardly worth mentioning. I didn't know you play the violin. How wonderful! Vic had a transfusion on Wednesday so he has some energy. Yesterday he got some music in the mail. Some were compositions written by concentration camp inmates during WWII. But he had a mixed bag; there were lots of other things too including some original pieces by Dave Brubeck.

Sandy: Glad to hear the PT is going well and that your uncle is in rehab. Hope things go smoothly for both of you. I am very surprised, however, to learn that you will be hosting a guest. That's a lot of extra work, if even a few days. Will he be able to help out or will you be waiting on him hand and foot?

Vic has gained some weight and was up to 131 yesterday. He's determined to get back up where he was, or close to it. I buy heavy cream by the quart and try to lace his food with it. You know, as hard as it is to lose weight, it's also hard to gain weight if you are very ill.

It cooled off for a day or two here but the temps are headed up this weekend.

Hope you all stay well...

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Sandy...oh my goodness! Just when I start to think my own life is crazy...I read about what someone else is going through and I realize that my problems aren't that bad after all. I feel so bad for you and your DH...all I've really got going on is a few critters. emoticon

If I try the baby powder, will it kill the ants or just keep them out? Will they take it back to their nests with them and kill more ants with it? I'm ready to try just about anything right now. The other thing I've heard about is this powder that's really a fungus that attacks the chitin that makes up the hard parts of the bodies of insects like roaches and ants. They carry the fungus back to their nests on their bodies and infect the rest of them so that they all die. But baby powder does sound less expensive...

I hope that your hand is coming along really well and that your DH is feeling much better. Back pain is bad. Barfing is bad. Having both at the same time just really stinks. I hope he's over all of it really soon.

There was much rejoicing!

OK, this month has been nuts. Let me start with saying sorry I haven't checked in for a little while but, I will explain. Therapy has been going really good except that my PT person and I both notice that I may have a cord that has pop, UGH! I am hoping when I see the Doctor on Monday he will be able to tell me what is going on. So, Here is what has been happening:

Uncle has come out hospital only to turn around and go back in the same day he came out twice. My hubby and I spent one night there till 2AM when my Aunt sent us home.

Then, Hubby's back went out and he caught something from the hospital that made him very sick to the point that he had to vomit in the kitchen sink due to his back.

Now, we have his cousin in town and we are trying to clean and make beds with hurt hands and bad backs. Oh, brother!

Hubby's friend arrives July 29 - Aug. 2 for visit but, only stay with us 2 days as he will be visiting other people too.

Oh, Then I just found out that my cousin is arrive in town on Aug.1 st and will be coming over to see us on the 2nd of Aug.

To top it all off my Uncle is back out of the Hospital and is at Rehab. Which I am thankful for. My Aunt has even stop by and brought us food as I am still not able to drive and Hubby was not till Wednesday. I had 2 Doctors appt. I had to cancel and reschedule because of his back going out. Also, my Uncle's daughter came into town which I was thankful for as I and Hubby were feeling guilty about not being able to help the last time my Uncle went in. Good news is he is doing good and recovering form his fall in the bathroom when he hit his head. He is 96 yrs old and the dr. said it will just take time.

So, It has been a little crazy. It was a cripple take care of a cripple. It was pretty funny.

Anyways, It's nice to see Gail that you had a wonderful time and got some needed rest.

Val - For Ants use baby powder. Follow the trail of ants and see where they are coming from. At the point from where they are coming in put some baby power. I know that some people are allergic to baby powder but, you don't need very much. The other thing is vinegar. Put it where they are coming. It should help stop them. The baby powder really works well.

Nan - Be careful in the lighting and thunder storms. They do say it is safer to be in a car as it is grounded.

Love to all of you. Stay cool and hydrated.

Oh Nan, send some of that down my way...please...

Gail, it sounds like that 5 day respite was really good for you. I'm so glad that spot opened up for you because you really needed it. I hope it keeps you going for a while. Obviously your life is not going to be without worries now just because you got the respite, but hopefully your soul got enough rest to be able to carry on without totally losing your mind. emoticon emoticon

Well this week tiny little pain in my tush sugar ants have invaded my kitchen and are trying to take over the automatic feeder I set up for my kitties. I really need this feeder so that I can sleep with my bedroom door open and get some cool air (which I FINALLY have) in there...but I do NOT like these damn ants! There are literally hundreds of them wandering around my kitchen floor. emoticon I've given up trying to stomp on all of them, but tomorrow I'm going to get something that I hope will help me deal with them. It's called diatomaceous earth and it's supposed to cause ineranal bleeding to insects of all kinds. There are two kinds of DE, food grade and the kind that's used in swimming pools (pool filters?), which is poisonous. I'm going to drive halfway across town (well, maybe just a quarter of the way) to Osuna Nursery, which carries food grade DE. When I come home I'll put it on my kitchen floor, in the cat food, and around all of the edges of this apartment. THESE ANTS ARE GOING TO DIE!!

Other than that I'm just waiting to get my violin back from the Violin Shop. Hopefully I'll be able to remember how to play it...I hope the rest of you have a nice enjoyable weekend planned for yourselves.

Good Morning:

Had a great day yesterday. The volunteer from hospice came at one. I ran a couple of errands at a leisurely pace and then sat in the library for about an hour and read. I'm still into the Anne Perry books. Right now I'm at least half way through the Monk series. Today would like to find the energy to bake a couple of 7" pies: one for Vic and another for a neighbor. I'm thinking of lemon meringue. I'm not into sweets so it shouldn't be a temptation for me.

I just got off the scale and was amazed; I didn't gain any weight on my 5 days respite. I really didn't expect that since I had a huge breakfast every morning and a good dinner at night.

It's sunny again but somewhat cooler. Hope you all have a lovely day.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

The past couple days have been bad days for me tracking much of anything. I have been tired, busy and just not with it. I did make it for a couple good, long walks on Monday but since then have been off track.

That's ok!

Back on track starting now!

The weather here has been unbearably hot. Yesterday I felt so awful because the air was so heavy I could barely breathe. Today wasn't as bad as yesterday but it was still hot. Luckily for us my mother-in-law came to our rescue and took us to the lake both days!

Getting out swimming made me feel so much better! I love swimming and I wish I got the chance to do it more often. I even got to try my hand at kayaking today. I've never done it before. It was kinda fun. A little relaxing when I would just put my paddle down and let the water carry me for a little while.

Hope everyone else has been having a wonderful weekend!!

I typed a big long complainy message yesterday...and then my computer ate the darn thing. emoticon That's okay, though, because things are looking so much better today.

It has only been in the 80s this week, thank goodness, but it has still been miserable for me because my darn cooler stopped working...again...So I told the apartment office that it was just circulating outside air and that I was concerned because it's supposed to get a lot hotter here over the next week. So a man went up on the building roof...and found that there was a rock in my cooler's pump and that was causing it to not get any water, thus the lack of cooling. I have no idea how a rock ended up on the roof, but at least the cooler is working again. emoticon

It's actually comfortable in my apartment today, I haven't had to take a single cold shower and in the middle of the night I had to turn off the fan I've had blowing on my bed non stop...because I was actually cold! (Never thought I'd have to say those words in the middle of July...) I haven't accomplished a single thing today, and I'm okay with that. I have a feeling I'll be sleeping a LOT better now that the cooler works again, and I think I'll be able to get a lot more done around here now that it's comfortable in the apartment. Maybe Little Very Bad Girl Kitty will be in a better mood now and act sweet toward me again...maybe...(she is a cat, after all. Never can predict their moods. emoticon )

Sandi, how is your hand feeling? Does it seem like the physical therapy is helping you? Gail, when is your 5 day respite? I can't remember whether or not it's this weekend. I really hope that will be a big help to you, goodness knows you need some time to be kind to yourself and not have to worry about so much all the time. I hope that everyone is having a really great weekend. Think I'm gonna go take a nap. emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

We are having thunder storms here and it is humid.

Therapy is going really good just sore today. Hubby went down with my Aunt to pick up my Uncle at the Hospital as he went right back in the same day he came out. He became dehydrated. We spent Thursday night in the ER from 8PM til 2AM, when hubby and I came home. My Aunt stayed and we picked her up late Friday. My Uncle is going to go to a Rehab facility for a little while till we get the house ready for him to come home and be sure he is stable. This time he agree to do so as it scared him because he didn't remember anything.

Glad to hear everyone is trying to stay cool and healthy.

Have a great weekend everyone. And thank you for all the support and warm wishes.

It is really hot here today! Haven't gotten much done at all because of the heat. I did get out for a walk this morning with my son before the temperature got too much but it was only a short walk and rather slow (he's only two and a half).

Hopefully it will be cooler tonight and I can get out again.

Our weather is getting hotter. I'm glad I have a/c so when the kids get here tomorrow, they can stay inside and be comfy.

Sandy, so glad your therapy went well. PT is such a good thing. It can be painful sometimes, but in the end, it's so worth it. Keep up the good work.

I just finished another workout. Just kind of cooling down now. That was a long 45 min! Still, it's important, so I do it. Now, I really need to bring in the laundry from the line, fold it and put it away. I do have a few other general cleaning chores so the kids find a clean AND cool house tomorrow.

Hello Friends,
Gail- I am so happy that you and Vic get a rest for 5 days. I know how difficult time this is for you and I am glad you get a break. I never had any break with my Mom from May of 2005 until she died Feb.6 of 2011! It was so exhausting to me and sometimes I think it really took my own health down more. But I am trying to do what my Mom said and take better care of myself. Keep us posted and you and Vic and your famil is in my prayers always!

I had the Haven for Hope Graduation last night for being successfully in my apt and not having to go back there! They gave each graduate a reusable Family Dollar Bag and $25 gift card to Family Dollar and I have one right up the street along with a convience store and a Mexican Food Place and a CVS Pharmacy down the road too. So it is a great location. My apt has hardwood floors in the living room, dining room, kitchen and bathroom and carpet in the bedroom and a shade tree and flower bed and patio out front. It is quiet there and they have a computer room in the office that I come up and use when I have time. They help me pay my rent and I have people who come out and check on me. I hope everyone has a good day!

Hi everyone, just a quick visit to see how everyone is doing! The weather is sunny and warm, not blistering hot like it has been so that's a blessing. I'm really busy getting vacation Bible school crafts and decorations ready for next week. The lead teacher in my class and I haven't been able to meet to discuss what to do because we were both traveling a lot, but we finally got together Tuesday and now we're both whirling around getting ready.

I've been using up some of my personal craft stuff for the class next week, so I guess I'm being frugal AND de-cluttering at the same time. emoticon It's really tiring though, but I've been getting my exercise in.

Have a great day!

OK, Had my first day of therapy and it went well. They took off the old butterfly strips and put new ones on and I have a guard that I wear at night to keep my fingers straight that were curling in.

Afterwards we headed to the hospital as my 96yr old Uncle had a fall in the night on Sunday and hit his head. Luckily he is doing OK now but, they did find bleeding on the brain in 2 places. They have taken a few CT Scans and they are not getting worse and are starting to dissipated. It is going to take time but, he is doing better. We are hoping that he will be able to come home tomorrow.

Gail - I am so glad that you are getting this opportunity to have some R & R for yourself. You really need it. Have a great time and get some good rest.

I hope everyone is having a great week.

Gail, I'm so glad you got this time. From the posts I've read over the past couple of months, I can tell you need it, even though it's not like you complain in your posts. It's just that you're obviously very busy and don't have any time to yourself. I hope you have a great time.

The humidity broke up here Sunday and we've had some really nice days with a great breeze each day. Today is my working day, but then I'm off until next Wednesday. My DD, DSIL and grandson come to visit this weekend. I'm so excited. I haven't seen my DSIL since April and we do love seeing him, not just our DD and grandson.

We never did lose our power this far north, but I saw just how big the area was that did. I hope they've all gotten it back now. I think they did. With such heat, that was a long time to go without.

Laurie

Hello everyone!

The weather here in Nova Scotia has been really warm lately! I wish it were just a few degrees cooler, then I might feel like I have more energy! I don't do well with extreme heat or extreme cold. I'm more of an in between kind of person!

I have been spending some time really sorting my life out and looking at what steps I have to take to get where I want to go. I went to an herb workshop yesterday and it was really a lot of fun! I have known for a while that I want to do something with plants in my life but every time I go to one of the local herb workshops I feel so inspired so I think that is calling to me!

Trying to get some stuff organized in my house. My son is currently the only grandchild with seven grandparents so he is a little spoiled. He has way too many things and I am thinking that, especially with another baby on the way, it's time to start letting some of it go and clearing up space in our house.

Hope everyone has been having a great week!

Cheers!

Hi everyone! It's been mild weather today and now we're having some rain - very welcome. I've been busy planning vacation Bible school with my fellow teacher for next week. We're all given a plan, but we had to figure out who was teaching what and when. Then there's the decorating of the classroom, some teachers go all out, but we have three year olds and I don't think we need to do that. So that was fun, then I tackled some mildew on our bathroom tile - ended up having to open a window and go out for awhile, whew! toxic fumes!

My sweetie is in Florida on business, but we have a date this evening to watch the baseball all-stars game by telephone. emoticon He comes home tomorrow, so it's not too bad. He gets the prize for being frugal - his round trip airfare was less than $200. Nice!

Gail, I'm happy for you as well. The caretaker needs to rest and replenish his/her own spirit. I'm glad you found a destination that's appealing and fun.

Gail, I'm so glad that this opened up for you. You do need this and I hope that you are able to really enjoy it. You've been going through so much and I'm really glad that you and the counselor were able to get Vic to agree with this. Enjoy your respite time as much as you're able to under the circumstances. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Good Afternoon:

This morning we had an appointment with the Grief Counselor from the hospice. He came to our home. About 15 minutes before he came I had a call from our hospice social worker. She told me there was an unexpected vacancy for a 5 day inpatient respite, from this Thursday to next Tuesday. When the Grief Counselor was here we discussed it with Vic. Vic was very resistant about going and didn't want me to leave for 5 days. We twisted his arm and explained how much I need this and how this was something he could do for me. Anyway, he finally agreed. I haven't seen the place but I was assured it was beautiful and he will think he's at a fancy bed and breakfast. There is nothing institutional about the place, they have a chef that will accommodate the patients in any way possible and each patient has his/her own room and bathroom. They even have a jacuzzi if the patients want to use it. Our daughter, who is very particular, has been to the facility and assures me it is lovely and the care is outstanding. Coming from her it means a lot. To top it all off, Medicare covers all costs.

This was very, very welcome but also last minute. Where could I go? Any place relaxing that I could think of would be far away and I'd spend one day getting there and another getting back. Also, I have to check Vic in at 1pm on the day of arrival and check him out at 11am on the last day. Long story short, I realized I'd have to go someplace nearby. I decided on a place about 1 1/2 hour drive from Madison. They have a beach on a lake, great restaurants, nice rooms, and lovely grounds. I figure if I bring some mysteries and just relax, swim if I have the inclination, etc. that will be wonderful. This place has an indoor and outdoor hot tub, so I can have something really special.

This was a blessing out of the blue. If not for this cancellation, I'd have to wait till the end of October for a 5 day respite. I'm so happy, I'm giddy. Boy, do I need this!

Thanks to all of you for all your support, encouragement and prayers.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Hello Friends,
So glad to hear that everyone is doing as well as you can. I went for my monthly grocery shopping with my son today at Wal Mart. When I moved into this apt I got a $200 gift card to Wal Mart so I have used it for food since I am trying to save enought money to got get my stuff out of storage in Norman Okla. I got two checks in that I was not expecting so in a few months if I keep saving I will have enought money to go get my stuff in Norman. Wed night I will be going throught the Haven for Hope Graduation. It is on TV and I will get to meet the man that built Haven for Hope. He took over $100000 out of his own pocket to build it and is now buiding some apts right behind Haven. But there are two trains that go through there and they get real annoying very fast! So I am happy my apt is a long ways from there. I love my apt. It has hardwood floors in the living room, kitchen , and bath room and carpet in the bed room so it is easy to keep clean and then I have a patio on front, a flower bed and a huge shade tree that hangs over the patio. It is really nice and very quiet. I love it here. They have a computer room in the office buiding and I try to make it up here as often as I can to get on the computers but just dont' make it some days.I am having 6 women over to my apt for my graduation party on Sat and my son gave me enought money to order pizzas for us and I got the stuff to make smores in the microwave so that will be fun. We are paiting nails and having fun that day! Hope everyone has a great day!

Hi everyone! It's been nasty hot all weekend, but a storm just blew through and we're all hoping it'll cool down into the 80's. My sweetie and I had a great morning in worship, the sanctuary was a tad warm, but it's hard to get large rooms cooled down during 100+ temperatures. We discovered an inexpensive pizza place when the region-wide power outages happened last weekend - the owner had a generator so he was able to keep the small eatery somewhat cool and serve food. It was a godsend for all of us who ate there because we were without power! Anyway, we liked the food so well that we went back there for lunch. They remembered us from the previous week, nice folks. The rest of the day we've been relaxing, but also cleaning out cabinets, getting a few things ready to donate or give away since we're moving to western Michigan next month. Doing the de-cluttering a little bit at a time keeps it from getting overwhelming or making a big mess of our condo.

No exercise today since it's my day of rest. Yesterday we went for a bike ride while it was "cool" in the morning. So nice to get back on the tandem bike after being unable to ride most of this year.

Have a lovely evening!

Happy Sunday. I had a good morning at church. It felt pretty hot today...someone had played with the church a/c to make it slow to cool down. Ugh. Not very nice. So we had a good morning at church, went to a couple of grocery stores on the way home to pick up some sale products. We took a walk after a quick lunch. Pretty good day.

SRivers - I hope that your PT is going well. Keep at it and it will definitely give you great progress.

emoticon to all of our new members. I hope that you'll all come to feel like you're really a part of the group.

My BP has been okay. When I was with my parents in Arizona last week it was running just a little on the low side of normal. Since I've been back home this week it's been running just a little on the high side of normal. ("Normal" being 120/80.) Still in an acceptable range both ways, but I can't figure out why it would be lower in AZ than in NM. emoticon Only thing I can think of is that I was feeling so relaxed while I was so obviously on vacation at my parents' house and now I'm starting to get a little bit stressed because I have to go back to work tomorrow. I'm really not stressed out about that at all, but it's the only thing I can come up with to explain the difference.

Oh well, vacations are always too short. I'm cookng a batch of lasagna in my slow cooker right now so that I'll have something to take to work for my lunches. Later in the week, or maybe next weekend, I'll cook a pot roast. I just have to make some space in my itty bitty little freezer before I do the pot roast because right now I've only got the room for containers of lasagna...kind of...I've got a bunch of frozen dinners that I bought for $1 each before I went on vacation so that I wouldn't have to cook and store anything right before I went to Arizona. Once I eat those I should have more room in there.

Right now we're at 85 degrees with about 30% humidity. I could live with this but I'm sure it's not going to last much longer. I hope that those of you in the eastern part of the country who are having such awful heat and humidity get some relief soon. (And power would be good, too, for those who have been without it.) I can't wait till summer is over...guess I'll be waiting for a while...Everyone enjoy the end of your weekend.

There was much rejoicing!

I'm still working on cleaning out the garage and basement. God, the useless stuff we've accumulated! A lot of the stuff I didn't even know I had. Now that I've found them I'll use them.
Never been through this before because Vic always insisted on keeping everything.

Its a bit cooler here today, 80 right now.

Stay well,

Gail

Enjoy each day.

I went out on the back porch/deck & it was 105. And it has a roof over it so it's in the shade. It's thundering & begining to rain so I hope iit continues for a good soaking. We really need it as everythings drying up. One man had his well dry up due to his watering his garden.

We had someone come out & pick up all the window sills & he told Bill he knew someone who would tke the heavy windows. After that we'll take all the scrap metal & turn it in. Then all we have to do is hang up the tools & put it all in order. It wasn't that bad as it was in the shade & the wind was blowing. I'm thinking that the craft room won't be any harder.

I got the urge to go thru my clothes & thin them out. I'm not going to get a part time job so I really thinned out the dressy stuff. Gave all that stuff to 2 sisters at church. The other stuff I gave to another lady at church. It really feels good to have it gone. And to know it's going to help someone, you know?

Well, hope everyone has a good & safe day.

I'm particularly concerned about the people in the eastern part of the country who have been without power for a week. The kind of heat they've been having with no air conditioning can be very dangerous. I heard this morning that so far 48 people have died as a result of the heat/humidity combination, and I really hope that they get the power restored to everyone before more people are adversely affected.

SRivers1, I hope that your PT goes really well. I know that it won't be fun, but I'm sure that it will be great to get back the use of that hand. Keep at it and hopefully you'll be good as new in no time at all.

Everyone do your best to stay cool. I'll try to send some of my current unseasonably cool weather as a thank you to whoever sent theirs so me. Have a great rest of your weekend.

There was much rejoicing!

It sounds like everyone is busy and hot. Please stay hydrated and cool. I know the Midwest and especially the East coast has been hit hard my prayers are with all of you. I hope you all get some relief soon. My daughter leaves in German Town,PA and we haven't been able to get through to her. We left a message and hope she gets it and calls soon.

My hand recovery it coming along good. Looking forward to PT on Wednesday. I know it will be hard but it is going to be the way back to normal.

Have a great rest of the weekend and stay cool and hydrated.

Good afternoon everyone!

I haven't been online much in the past few days. I have been taking some time to sort some things out for myself and I think I have managed to come up with a plan that will work for me! I am really looking forward to getting some things done this summer!

I hope everyone else is having a wonderful day!
It's absolutely beautiful here in Nova Scotia!

I haven't been doing much cooking lately and that's all right. Been eating fruit, sandwiches, veggies and dip. Yesterday I did make up some whole wheat pasta and refrigerated 1/2.

We put three tires up on freecycle yesterday and got them out of the garage. There's still a lot to get rid of before there is room to get the other car in the garage. We still have to sell a motorcycle and an 1995 car. Craig's list, here we come.

I am behind due to traveling. I hope everyone has a great weekend. We are happy to be back in Florida. I have been in the pool a couple of times this week and went to Curves today. Eating pretty healthy this week and feeling pretty well. I spoke with my stepmother in Ohio, where again it was over 100 degrees (and humid). Her electricity went out. Therefore, no a/c. Hoping that it came back on for her or that she went to a neighbor's place to stay.

An amazing thing has happened here in Albuquerque. Yesterday the temperatures only got up to the low 80s and today we're not quite up to 80 degrees! It's really comfortable, but what the heck is going on here?? I know that we have a threat of rain, but usually at this time of year that just means hot and muggy. Whatever, I'll take it. I'm sure it won't last for long so I'm certainly not going to complain.

I hope that the rest of you are surviving the heat that I know most of the rest of the country is having. I'm sure we'll be joining you again soon...(102 on July 1st and only 80 by the 5th and 6th? What in the world is going on...and how do we make it continue and spread to the rest of the country...?)

There was much rejoicing!

It's almost 90F here and I'm up in Maine! Way too far north for it to be this hot up here this early in the morning. It's only 9 am!!

I'll be staying inside today. The heat and I do not get along. No wonder I have a headache. I'm going to hang laundry outside, but it's shady out there in the morning, so I'm good to go right now. I have the a/c I can turn on later if I need to. It's still cool in here, DH opens a lot of windows when he gets up around 4 am, so it's nice when I first get up.

I just puttered around the house on the 4th, no plans at all and DH was working. He's self employed and with all the rain we've been having this spring and summer, he hasn't been able to get back into the woods and he takes every opportunity he can to work. He had a very long mud season this year and there were no paychecks for him. Now, there are no weekends or holidays for him.

Since we're getting the dangerous heat and humidity right now, I think I'll take advantage of it to stay inside and clean some cluttered areas and maybe do some sewing. When it cools down, which it eventually will, I can do more yard work. Tending the veggies will have to be early evening or very early mornings.

I read that the mid-west might get a reprieve from the heat in a day or so. I hope that's true and the cooler temps and some rain come soon for the area.

Laurie

It's been very hot here and reached 107 today. I haven't been keeping track, but I'm sure I've been getting at least 8 cups of water a day.

I hope you all had a great 4th. I didn't do much, mostly just stayed inside to avoid the heat. We got a bit of rain on Monday or Tuesday and it's supposed to be a little bit cooler with some more rain for the next week or so. I'll believe in the rain part if I ever see it, but at least it's not quite as hot as it has been.

There was much rejoicing!

Well I got home from hellishly hot Tucson this afternoon...to find that it's pretty much just as hot here in Albuquerque as it was in Tucson. Maybe not quite as hot (by like a degree or two) but it's still flippin' hot. emoticon emoticon I wish I had refrigerated air like my parents, but at least the worthless swamp cooler is more or less working. I had a really great time with my parents and it was a really good way to spend my birthday week in spite of the fact that it was ridiculously hot. Little Very Bad Girl kitty has been telling me for about an hour just how unhappy she was that I was gone for a week. Poor little kitty. It's good to be missed by someone...even if it's just a little 9 pound calico. emoticon

Anyway, I don't have to go back to work until next Monday so I'm going to spend some time resting (didn't sleep worth a darn at my parents' house for some reason emoticon ) and getting a few important things done around my place. I'll probably go out to lunch with a friend of mine on Thursday and finish up 3 necklaces I made with my mom last week. I just need to find the right focal beads for them and then I'll be able to finish them. (Making jewelry is much more fun when you have all the stones you need to finish your pieces, but there was only so much stuff I could take to Tucson with me so I was hoping that Mom would have the right beads for me to use...)

I hope that last week was a really great one for all of you guys. SRivers1, I'm really glad that your surgery seems to have helped you a lot. I hope that the improvement is lasting. Has anyone heard from Kurt recently? I think he may have fallen off he edge of the earth. emoticon Everyone take care and I'll check in again when I've gotten settled back in here at home.

There was much rejoicing!

This is the beginning of my semi-vacation....I only work one day per week this month...so my plans are basically to catch up on all the things I've either started and didn't finish this year and/or get to the things I didn't get around to earlier. I also need to make sure I get in my exercise, even if it's really hot. I can do it here at home, just need to turn on the a/c and get busy. I have no excuse whatsoever.

I'm going to make my To-Do list, because I haven't been nearly as productive as I would have liked in the past 3 days. I need to get organized. My work day is tomorrow, so I'll get all my computer work done that I've just been waiting for the new year to do....July is the new year in a school.

No plans for the 4th. I expect DH to work, so it will be working here at home on my To-Do list.

Just saw the Doctor got the stitches out today, Ugh! That was no fun. Will do home PT for 1 week then start reg. PT next week. Doc says it's looking good. But, since it is so tender when he took out the stitches he put me on Antitoxins for 7 days just be sure there is no infection starting. The nerve he fixed he said that normal nerves look like spaghetti well, mine had been mashed in the middle which was giving me my problems and that was in my wrist and he fixed that. Once the swelling goes down and I do my PT I will have full mobility - it will take 2 months.

I have the case off now and using my hand as much as it feels comfortable. I have a road a head of me but, looking forward to it all - even the pain. As they say no pain no gain. emoticon

The Doctor was surprised that the nerve test that I took had come back normal but, as he said sometimes they don't get all the areas. So, my suggests to everyone is you know your body's the best always go for 2 opinions and push for more tests and most of all don't be afraid to speak up and push. Be the squeaky Wheel. I am thankful I was.

Again I thank each of you for your support, prayers and warm wishes. It is wonderful to belong to a group that has so much love and support for each other and there when we need each other. I applaud all of you as you should yourselves. emoticon emoticon

I hope you each have a safe and wonderful week and 4th of July with your families and friends. emoticon

It's too flippin' hot in my part of the country to do much of anything outdoors so one of my goals for July is to finally join a gym (now that my poor old body seems to be more or less back to whatever passes for "normal" now, as far as injuries goes). My other goal is to really try to get back on track with the weight loss portion of the Spark program. I've gotten kind of lazy about it over the last few months so it's really time to start working on that again.

There was much rejoicing!

Good morning everyone!
I'm from Canada so we are celebrating our holiday today! Hubby and I are keeping close to home today and will be taking our little man to the fireworks in town tonight! He's 2 1/2 and adores fireworks!
Otherwise I plan on getting caught up on some of my housework that I have been lacking in!
Hope everyone else has a great day!

Good Morning:

Happy July 1 everybody. It's the start of a new month and my one and only goal is to do more PT exercises. The one I've been doing is great and I've been consistent. But I need to do more stretches and/or the pulley to improve my range of motion and thereby take better care of myself.

G.

Enjoy each day.

My goals are to get my PT going on Hand and get it back in shape.

Gail in answer to your question last month I have used Craigslist When I put my house on the market to rent and our property in Nev. We got a lot of calls.

We are planning much for the 4th but, staying close to home or seeing my Aunt and Uncle.
