I saw the toilet paper roll idea and LOVED it! I also like to direct sow in the ground but depending on what climate you live in that may not work, and of course not all plants do well like that.

I am still harvesting mustard greens and cilantro, I will definately have this in my garden next year too

For seeds, join seed exchange groups. You can get awesome seeds for just the cost of postage. Grow heirlooms, and you can save your own seeds for next year.

Check your local waste facility to see if they have free mulch and compost. I built raised beds and filled them with the local free compost, and things grew like mad.

You an build a cheap raised bed using cedar privacy fence slats. They don't rot as easily as non-treated wood.
