Got out and did some gardening early before I went to the gym. After I got home, we got the last of our reservations done for our trip north. It got hot enough this afternoon that we gave in and turned the a/c on. I even got a haircut this afternoon and that is a relief as it was getting pretty shaggy.
Busy day tomorrow and brother coming to visit and attend memorial service for dad and others who have passed away in the last year here in the park.

Wow, I don't check in for a bit and lots is happening. Darla I am so happy for you. That is wonderful news that you will soon be in your own apt. That is just so great.
Gail I am glad to know you got Vic home-I hope he gets to feeling better soon.
I have been dealing with issues with DH-he is feeling a little better so hoping things are FINALLY going to feel like a human again. Still mad at the drs for not listening more to his complaints!
Have had the car in the shop twice this week-1st for an oil change and they found we had a broken motor mount so had to take it back today to get that fixed. Hope that takes care of things there for a bit. Now have to think about new house batteries for the mh-if it sets, they won't crank the generator-found that out today when I went to start it to run the rug cleaner in there-the little spot bot! Duh, it is always something isn't it.
Hoping to be able to go get a haircut tomorrow-without a car it kinda slowed things down on my to do list. Did get some stuff done around home and caught up some on my reading. I hope in another week or so to have my magazines caught up!
Worked on our summer trip yesterday and have some of the reservations made. Getting excited about that.
Well, it is getting late and want to get up and work in the yard before I go to the gym at 9 so better shut this down.
Nite all.

Hello Friends,
I went to Wal Greens to get some stamps, sunblock and sugarless candy and was walking to the bus stop and went by a Theater and got a ticke to see Carol Burnett and Loretta Lynn in concert! I am so excited about that! Loretta was my Dad's favorite singer and my Mom and i watched Coal Miners Daughter about a million times! Plus Carol has always been funny! I got tomorrow to take the paper work and then they have to inspect the apt and then I can move in! I will have to wait for a sat so Chris can come and get me. Well take care. love to all Darla

Good Evening:

Well, it was an 11 hour day today. Vic was admitted to the hospital and they ran some tests. He's comfortable now and hopefully they can figure out what the problem is. It might be pneumonia. They gave him some pain medication ...he's had a lot of pain on his side...and he is feeling better. I'm ok now, but earlier, this morning, I wasn't doing well. I never let him know of course.

Going to grab something to eat and will then escape with a book.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Hello Friends,
Thanks everyone about the apt and I do have a big smile on my face! I am so excited! I sent off for my birth certificate today and will have to wait until next Tuesday for them to come back again and I will get the money to go and get a Texas Driver's license but think I left my drivers license with them and so i could not do the paperwork for them to take out to the apt until next tuesday. Then they have to inspect it before I can move in. They will give me things from here and then I fill out a wish list and a company helps provide it for me. So they do some great things here and the staff has really pulled things together for me. I will get my full SS on the 3rd and they are deciding whether to forget all that I owe them or just take $10 a month out. If they forget it all then they have to refund me all that they have taken. So we will see what they decide. Chris ribs will take 6 - 8 weeks to heal and then I wil put him and his best friend james to work to go to OKC and rent a uhaul to bring all my stuff back and put it in my apt. But that won't be until Mid May. They give me stuff here so I should be good to go! Well take care everyone! Love Darla

I read "The Help," a while ago and it was really, really good. Never saw the movie, but then the movies are seldom as good as the books. Over the weekend I finished reading the last of "The Hunger Games" books. They were good, too, but quite violent/intense. I can't see how they can be recommended for school age kids, but then I guess things are very different than they were when I was in junior high and high school. The video games kids play these days are pretty darn violent, too, so I guess kids are "ready" for that kind of stuff at an earlier age than we oldsters were.

I got some blood work drawn on Saturday, had to do it on that day because it was the only day when I could possibly be drawn when I was fasting. (Somehow none of the draw sites were open at 4:00 am during the week...emoticon) My doctor called and left me a message today telling me that my results all looked good. Only one small problem, which was that my HDL is a little bit low, which I could probably improve with more (or ANY) exercise. But all in all, it looked good and my kidneys have not been affected by my high blood pressure, which has been out of control at various periods over the last 10 years.

At work I'm still fighting having not been put into the computer for what was supposed to be continuous health coverage when my company was sold. I had an appointment with my neurologist (yeah, one of the expensive kind of appointments) before I had an insurance card, but I had been told to give the doctor's office our group number and that the would be able to file the claim with that. So last week I got a letter from the insurance company saying that they weren't paying for that appointment because my insurance was not yet in effect on the day that I had the appointment. Excuse me?? This tranisition was supposed to be seamless, but for me it has been a VERY bad experience and my opinion of the new company is not an entirely positive one at this point.

I've sent a couple of emails to the woman who would have handled this kind of thing for the old company and her answer has been that I should file this or have my doctor's office file the paperwork again. Why? I'll just get the same answer from the insurance company unless someone from the company talks to the insurance people. And besides, it's NOT MY FAULT that this happened so someone from the company needs to fix it for me. I talked to my boss today and he gave me the name of the woman's new boss and told me to ask her to give me the contact information for that person because I shouldn't have to do all the leg work for something the company screwed up. So maybe over the next week it will get fixed...but I'm not holding my breath at this point...

Okay, so that's enough griping from my neck of the woods for this week. (I'm hoping that it's all out of my system now...) I hope that the week started out really well for the rest of you and that we all have a really great rest of the week.

Penny: I read The Help for my book club a year or two ago, but didn't see the movie. Right now I'm reading the Daisy Dalwymple and Masie Dobbs mysteries series. I use the library all the time and seldom buy books. If I should get a book I get it at Half Price Books.

Darla: You sound like you have a big smile on your face. I'm really happy for you.

Still haven't gotten started on taxes. Bet all of you are finished by now.

So far I've cleared all my tests & they still don't know why i have the spells or pass out so, still no driving for me. But I can work in the yard & do pretty well what I need to. It's really been warm & we've had rain every few days. Did get the yard mowed & plan on working on planting some stuff today.

Have spent most of the morning looking for the paperwork on the air conditioning unit. Haven't found it but have sure cleaned out a lot of stuff we no longer need. Bill will burn it all & I'll put the ahes in the flower beds. He plans on tilling the garden. I think he's going to do some spraying today IF it isn't windy. There's a big spot of poison ivy out back that really needs it.

Kurt, I agree with you. If someones not here legally they shouldn't be gtting money to stay here. Just doesn't make sence! But then, a lot of stuff doesn't. Has anyone read THE HELP? I also got the movie but I don't think it was as good as the book was.

Daylight so need to get started. Hope everyone has a good & safe day!

I'm so glad that things are finally working out well for you, Darla. And poor Chris.emoticonEven when I was mad at him for making you live in the shelter, I would never have wished something painful like cracked ribs on him. Toward the end of his life my first DH coughed so hard that he cracked a rib and he was in soooo much pain. It just hurts to even think about it. I hope that his ribs heal up nicely, and also that he was able to enjoy being in my neck of the woods before he injured himself. (Well, kind of my neck of the woods anyway. In my state, at least.)

There was much rejoicing!

Good Morning:

Well, for the first time in a week or so I finally got some sleep last night and it was wonderful. Yesterday was nasty but today it looks lovely out there. I think I will go down town for the 1 hour of poll training. BTW, I got a check for working the polls in February and it was over $170. Sweet.

Gail it seems we are on the same roller coaster ride with our hubbies. I called the urologist on Wed and they had him come in on Thur and they are running a urine culture but didn't get back to us before the weekend so he is still having a lot of pain. Went to see the oncologist on Fri and he says that often about a month after treatment, the patient gets a bladder infection. He was surprised that he wasn't put on an antibiotic but he would not prescribe it. He did prescribe something to help with the pain. DH will not have to return to see him again since he is now cancer free!
For now, it is lots of water, cranberry juice, the pain meds and tylenol and hope the dr calls early Mon!
Got some bad news this evening, one of my cousins is in the hospital and he was just diagnosed with lung cancer and he already has COPD and emphysema (a lifelong smoker).
His sister and I are the same age and were very close all thru school.
Hope everyone is having a good weekend.
Pat

Good Evening:

Well, the $120 we were quoted was for the diagnostic, not the repairs on the car. Late yesterday afternoon they told us the repairs would run $1400. I just couldn't see spending that kind of money on a 1999 car, though Vic was inclined to do so. We went over to the dealership and wound up getting him a car. I'm really glad.

I didn't sleep well last night and woke at 6:15am to drive to my 8am all day insurance class scheduled today. When I got home Vic and I went to pick up the car we got for him yesterday. I am soooo beat.

Right now I'm going to crawl into bed even though it's only 6:20pm. Hope you all have sweet dreams.

Gail

Pat:

I'm so sorry to hear your DH has been in so much pain. Vic has been going through a very rough time with his GI system for the past couple of weeks. I'm sure it's due to his chemo and/or the plethora of medications he's taking. He too has been up night and day, moaning and groaning. I feel so bad for him and there's nothing I can do. Obviously, I too have been up around the clock. It's so draining.

This week we had car trouble, and then we had some more car trouble. Tuesday, Vic narrowly escaped an auto accident on the way to chemo. He had to come to a screeching halt to avoid hitting the car in front of him. That car stopped suddenly when the car two cars ahead suddenly went into a driveway of a strip mall. Nobody was speeding, but traffic was moving at about 35-37 mph. Anyway, Vic's breaks went out. He drove slowly to chemo and then back home. Luckily we only live about 5 miles from the hospital. He took the car in that day to get the brakes fixed and it was about $230. We thought we got off easy. Yesterday, on his way back from chemo, (he goes 10 days a month) he stopped at the library. When he tried to start the car to come home it was deader than a doornail. We've had this AllState road service insurance for a few years and never had occasion to use it. Well, we sure used it yesterday. First, one garage came out to start the car, but they couldn't get it to start either. Then he had to call the towing service. Thankfully, both were covered under the policy. Anyway, the towing service brought it to a local dealership to be repaired. They estimated it would cost $120. Again, we felt we got off easy. We'll find out today for sure if it will be more than that. The car is a 1999 Ford Contour with under 70,000 miles. We'd love to keep it and realize how convenient it is to have 2 cars. Thank God my car is working very well, so he can take it in case of emergency. BTW, the dealership gave him a brand new loaner car at no rental cost. He only has to pay for the gas. Sweet.

Hoping you're all enjoying nice weather as we have.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Not sure if it was the road trip or what, but DH had a bad night-more pain than even during radiation. He spent a good part of the night in his recliner since that position seemed to ease his pain. I didn't get a lot of sleep either and had a busy day. Taking him to urologist tomorrow and oncologist on Fri-I called to get him in to urologist and got more pain meds for him. Hoping it isn't anything serious.

Well, it sounds like all of you are getting some great weather and Spring. Here in the Northwest we are having rain and snow. Today was beautiful but it was about 40 but felt like 35.
I love it. But I want to get outside and start my garden.

I hope that all of you have a wonderful Spring time.

Good Evening:

I went shopping today and came upon a real bargain: $7.99 for a huge corned beef that was originally over $22. It was not dated and the packaging was in tact. The supermarket didn't sell as many as they thought they might so they reduced them. I figured it would be good for when we have company. It's easy to make, just put it in a pot and cover the meat with water. Then simmer for a few hours till tender. I also got a large bag of green bananas for $0.79. Our supermarket bags whatever bananas are left when a new shipment comes in. I needed them anyway, so it was really good for me. Bananas are high in potassium and I give them to Vic as much as possible because he is subject to leg cramps.

It's been warm and lovely here for the past few days. Today I sat on the front porch and read for a few hours. It was divine.

Sleep well.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Road trip today-went south about 95 miles to Lake Wales to visit with some of our St. Louis, MO friends! Pretty funny we have to visit with them down here-one year they come north to see us and the next year we go down there and it was our turn to drive this year. Had a great visit-left home about 8:30 and got home at 6:30!
I have strawberries to fix so nite all.

Today was a splurge day-yummy emoticon shortcake.
I did buy lots of veggies and had that for dinner along with Alaskan salmon so not a totally bad day.

Kurt : I agree with you.

Gail: Lately I have felt the same way. I finally got off my behind and went to the fabric store and did some errors.

It was a nice day today for a little while. It was 45 but felt like 35. We had snow last night. We may get more to night.

Reorganized and cleaned out the closet under the stairs. We have a local charity that will be in the area on Monday next week. I have started a box for them. I also cleaned out our closet and reorganized it, well at least my side. Hubby would have a fit if I throw any of his old clothes way.

Will be working on a few other projects this week also. Going thought the kitchen drawers and getting rid of any duplicates.

Well, I hope everyone has a great week.

I think when you push yourself to do a lot for a long time, your mind eventually rebels and makes you rest somehow.
I go through the same thing, but I'm a Libra, which means I balance things out.

I haven't done my taxes yet because one of the schools took too long sending out the W-2s (they blamed it on their bank). I'm not looking forward to it because everyone here always winds up paying more NY taxes than were deducted from the paycheck (Fed, State, and City taxes can amount to 1/4-1/3 of earnings).
Having immigrant students who are getting tons of free benefits and $5,000+ back in tax refunds don't make me any happier.

It's in the low 70s and they expect it to reach record-breaking highs (high 70s) by Thursday.

Hello Friends,
Well I called about my apt today but my handwriting is not the best and they read my SS number wrong so they are rerunning it and then we will see how things go. I should know by the end of the day if I got the apt. I did my taxes last week and still have not got my refund yet. When it comes in I can get my phone turned on and get some things done but saving most of it to go and get my stuff in Oklahoma. I have some friends here who will help since my son hurt his ribs and will not be able to lift things like he has before. I am excited about my apt and will see how it goes today. They also have to inspect it and it won't be ready for a week so I will just have to see how it goes. hopefully it will all come through fast. I get a $200 gift card to Wal- Mart when I have been there for a month! And there was no application fee or deposit either! It is really cute! Hope everyone has a good day!

Good Morning:

Well, with all good intentions I still haven't started the taxes. I'm hoping to get started today so I can have that behind me. UGH. I'll bet some of you have already filed.

Also keep putting off taking things down to the hospice resale store. What is it with me? I just can't get my butt in working order. Any of you ever have that problem?

We are having beautiful weather-mid 80's by day and low 60's at nite. DH had a rough nite so let him sleep till after 11 today and I went out to work in the park gardens and then did a little weeding at home. Seems the weeds like this weather too.
Friends came over this afternoon so spent the rest of the day visiting. I had some things I had planned to get done but it isn't going to run off so it will hold for another day or 2.
Late now so heading to bed.
Nite all

I've been loving the unseasonable warm weather. It's been in the low 40s when I've been drivin to work for the last week and I've been able to switch from wearing my wool coat in the morning to using the leather jacket with the broken zipper again. I'm a little worried about what it all may mean for our summer this year, but I'm certainly enjoying this weather while it's here.

I need to figure out what to use to make a lanyard out of some of the many beads I have. I have to wear 4 cards at work so I figure I should wear them on something stylish...or at least something that makes me happn. (Also, I need to use up some of those beads so they'll take up less space in my extra bedroom.) Luckily for me, that's about the most important thing I have to worry about this weekend.

I hope that you're all having a really great weekend and that you don't have to worry about anything much more important than I do until the new week starts tomorrow.emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

Good Morning:

It's been unseasonably warm here and today it's projected to get close to 80. Right now it's 60. This weather is extraordinary for Wisconsin.

Vic took himself to chemo yesterday and was quite shaken when he got home. He narrowly avoided an accident, and in doing so the brakes went out. We have to get the brakes fixed tomorrow. I hope it isn't too much. The car is a 1999 Ford Contour and is very dependable. Everything but the air conditioning works so we don't want to get rid of it. Today he'll take my SUV. It's in mint condition and runs beautifully too. It's at times like this that I'm glad we have two cars. I was very tempted to get rid of the Ford.

Hope you are all doing well.

Gail

It's still a bit cool from the previous few rainy/foggy days, but it's supposed to go back to unseasonably warm tomorrow.

I had to go to Manhattan to do my weekend errands, but stayed far away from midtown and The Parade. At least the MTA had the trains running well today because of the anticipated spike in weekend riders. I got there and back in record time.

Had a busy but fun day today-we were off about 7:30 with our friends, Betty & Boyd and went to 3 large community yard sales and got a few bargains. We were out there walking and shopping for nearly 5 hours!!!
This evening we went to a corned beef and cabbage dinner put on by our social club. They had a full clubhouse and put on a very nice meal.
Hope all of you had a Happy St. Patrick's Day.

Sun and Rain mix today. But, we are going to be getting snow starting Sunday to Tuesday. We have gotten 297 inches of snow at Mt. Baker. The resort that is closest to us has 163 inches at the base.

I have 4 more boxes to go though out in the shed for this year. Each year I go though each bin and get rid items I am not using or miss. I have gone from 200 boxes and bins 2 yrs ago when we moved back to only 20 now. I have also gotten rid of a lot in the house too. After years of moving around as a kid and now as an Adult I am learning not to hang on to so many items.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend and St. Patty's Day.

If the numbness is due to nerve damage, there's nothing to do but wait for it to heal.
If it's due to circulation, you can try those Chinese accupressure shoe/slipper inserts with the "bumps." They help a lot. (There's a picture of the inserts in the photo gallery on my SparkPage. People have asked me about them before.)
The numbness I got was from nerve damage between the toes from wearing thong slippers. It's supposedly common nowadays, but it's taking a long time to improve (probably because I have to do a lot of walking to, from, and at work).

I saw the heart doctor for that test yesterday. It's where he goes down your throat to check the back of your heart. There is now way to describe how bad the spray & "jello" stuff tasted. I had thouht I'd be out for that but I was wide awake. I didn't get put out until after they put in the thing so you couldn't close your mouth. The nurses were really nice. He found a "small leakage" but isn't worried about it. Bad thing is he still doesn't know what's causing the passing out or the "spells". So I still can't drive. But have decided to just do what I want to until I get tired & then stop.

It's been in the 80's with rain. This morning we planted 2 light & 2 dark lavendar heather & another blueberry bush. That makes 10 we've planted this spring. None of the ones we planted last year lived. Still have 2 rosemary & 2 lavendar bushes to plant. We dug up some forsythia bushes, some lilac bushes & a snowball bush. In the borning we'll dig up some butterfly bushes. We're giving some to the preacher & 2 friends from the auction. I just can't pitch a plant. Turned off the furnance & opened all the windows. we'll have to close the windows when we leave as it's looking really stormy now.

Spent Wednsday morning with a friend & she gave me some stuff her D-I-L left when they moved out. So,as we'd met our new neighbors that night, I had her come over & she took all the sci-fi books & a butterfly lamp (cute but just not me). She said she was happy to get the stuff but I bet I was a lot happier! Also have some to take to the book store. She gave Bill some plates that were old & came from France. He really liked them & he told her she could get a great deal of money from Ebay but she said she'd rather he keep them & enjoy them.

Kurt, my left foot goes dumb also but they say it's from when I had surgery on that leg last year. It's supposed to get back to normal but woill just take time. The other foot is OK.

Got to get ready to go but hope everyone has a good & safe day!

Good Morning:

Going to a concert tonight with Vic and it will be good to get out.

Some man stopped by the other day and offered his services for yard work and work on the house. He cleaned our gutter spouts for $30 and will be doing our windows in two weeks for $3 a piece. He counts each of the floor to ceiling triple, quadruple and quintuple windows as one window, so it's really a bargain. We clean the insides of the windows every week but it's been ages and ages since we cleaned the outsides.

It's been beautiful here too and today will be another glorious day. Enjoy the weekend everyone.

Gail

The "coin" is the same method as the aluminum foil except it's a solid piece of aluminum. The aluminum + baking soda creates some kind of chemical reaction that draws the tarnish off the silver and onto the aluminum.
I've seen the "magic coin" ads before, but not this particular metal plate. It's my guess that you probably had to wash the little metal plate afterward.

The weather here right now is more like Autumn (in the 40s & 50s), but nothing like Winter! There will be periods of light rain (mist, not drops) from today through Saturday morning, and then it will change back to Summer, even though summer hasn't officially started yet.

About 15 years ago I got a little metal plate at the state fair that I could put in water with some washing soda or something else (some kind of soap?) that was absolutely the best tarnish remover I've ever used. Unfortunately I lost it when we moved but just now I thought for the very first time to look for it online. I found this web address: www.metalbrite.net/products They have a couple of sort of expensive ones but if you go farther down the page there is one that's smaller and only costs $20. If you find that thse other methods aren't working for you then think about giving that a try. (But I'm hoping that the baking soda or the salt will work well enough for me that I won't have to spend $20...)

The weather has been absolutely wonderful here for the last 2 or 3 days. It's like it's springtime already but I have this feeling that we're going to get hit with one more blast of really cold weather before we can truly put this winter to bed. I hope that you all have a fabulous Friday, I'm off to bed now.

There was much rejoicing!

Using the baking soda is a substitute for using chemical cleaners.
The chemicals in the silver polishes stay in the silver and are ingested when people use the utensils to eat.
Many plain types of soap can be used in between baking soda treatments to keep the silver clean and shiny.

Good Morning:

I received a note from the garden club yesterday. Didn't open it yet but know it's to renew for this season. Last night I had a dream in which I had decided not to rent a plot this year. It's a lot of work and I need help setting it up and taking it down. The more I think about it the more inclined I am to pass it up. They have a few farmers' markets here in town and I'm thinking I'll just spend the extra money and shop there for fresh produce. It's something to consider.

Speaking of taxes, I decided to start preparing. Vic insists on doing them and he always waits till the last minute; drives me mad!

Still keeping up with the food, water and exercise changes. The pulley exercise is still a bother so it may take a bit before it just becomes second nature.

Kurt and Sandy: I've got to try your method for cleaning silverplated things. After you're done do you was it in sudsy water and polish it with a dry, clean cloth, or do you polish it with polish remover?

Have a good one.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

If all of you were hanging on the roof, I must have lost you as you weren't on when we arrived! Sorry, I tried to take it easy-kept it about 55-60. We are having a wonderful time. Worst thing I forgot the hamburger for Tues nite dinner!! Today DH got too close to a pelican and it nipped him with it's beak and brought the blood! Getting in lots of walking-Vicky & I hoofed it from the campground to town yesterday-must have gotten in between 4 and 5 miles.
Sorry to have to head home tomorrow. Pics coming.

On Sunday we had snow. This morning it was 41 degrees out when I was driving to work at 4:45 in the morning. What a difference a couple of days can make. Who knows what this weekend will bring...

Kurt, I did kind of have the same picture in my mind of people hanging on to the top of the RV and it made me smile. Figured I should share all of the smiles that I can.emoticon

I'm so pleased that the work week is finally more than half over. It's been an okay week at work, though my early mornings have been irritating as heck, but nothing that I can't handle. I've had a hard time getting to sleep the last two nights, but at least I'm getting closer to the weekend when I'll be able to get some extra sleep. I hope that you're all having a really great week.

There was much rejoicing!

SRIVERS1:
How long do you leave the silver in the hot water mixture?

The weather is still spring-like. I only had to wear a hooded sweatshirt when I took Vivi for a walk around midnight (she got two walks tonight -- she needs the exercise).

Afternoon All!

Kurt: I use that method for cleaning my silver but, I add 1/2 tsp. salt with the baking soda. I line a large pot with Foil, add the water and put on the stove till the water boils. I then take it off the stove and place my silver into the pot. I use Tongs to get the pieces out of the hot water. You can also do it in the sink if you don't have a large pot. Instead you line the sink and boil the water and then pour the water in the sink. Afterwards you just polish with a towel. Also, I do mine indoors and have not noticed any smell but, I don't use the vinegar.emoticon

If all of you are going with Pat I hope you some how strap your self to the roof some how. Pat it sound like you will have a great time even with the people on the roof. HA! emoticon

We got a little snow again today. It is about 40 here but feels like 35. We are suppose to get snow again tonight. But, it won't last.

hope everyone has a great rest of the week.

Harplute & Vali:
Very funny -- I got this visual picture of people hanging onto the roof while the RV drives off into the sunset.

To Whomever Asked Me About Cleaning Silver:
I already gave my baking soda/white vinegar tip, but someone came across an old method that's also good for silverplate. It involves lining a pan with aluminum foil (shiny side up) and pouring in a mixture of baking soda + boiling water. The silverplate stays in for just a minute while the tarnish attaches to the aluminum foil -- there's a chemical reaction that produces a slight sulphur smell (although one comment said that the smell is not "slight" and it's better to do this outdoors).
His full instructions for removing tarnish & wax from silver are here, with more suggestions in the comments:

I can't believe that some areas of the US are getting the worst winter weather ever, and we've barely had anything that we could call winter weather.
The days have been spring-like, but the nights can get a bit chilly.
The news reports have warned us that we're going to pay for it in mosquitos and other pests as soon as summertime really does get here.

Spent the day cooking and packing and we are ready to head out tomorrow. Wish we could take more along-I enjoy a crowd!
Looks like we will have good weather. We are looking so forward to this after being off the road for the past 6 years and not being able to go anywhere for the past 3 years.
DH & Sonny did some work on the rv today-the electrical cord was inside the storage compartment and hard to get out to hook up so they have moved it to the outside which will make it a lot simpler when we get to a campground. Sonny did the work-DH can't see good enough to do that.
If I am not on for a couple days it means there is no wi-fi.

Darla, I'm really glad that things seem to be moving along well for getting you into the apartment. I'm also glad that you've found a special new friend. Don't take people's criticisms to heart. Just keep on listening to both your heart and your head, and things should work out just fine.

I do remember that 60 said she was having some health issues and would not be on as frequently for a while. I hope that she's doing okay these days, and that she'll be back with us sometime soon.

Pat...how many people do you think you can fit onto the roof of your RV?? Sounds like a lot of us would like to go along with you on your trip.emoticon

I discovered this morning that I'll be training a student for the next 4 weeks.emoticonIt's not so bad, I trained her for 5 weeks in Hematology, she went to Microbiology for a few weeks, and now she's back for 4 weeks of Chemistry. She's one of the better students I've worked with, doesn't make me want to scream or strangle her. (Some of them have...) She's pretty sharp and I can show her how to do something the first time and then either help her to do it or watch her do it the second time. So as frustrating as students sometimes are for me, I think that I'll probably survive the next 4 weeks with this one. It might even give me the chance to work on a few little "projects" that need to be taken care of in Chemistry right now.

Not much else going on in my neck of the woods right now. I do wish that those of you who live in places that get real winter...would keep it to yourselves! It keeps sneaking down here for a visit and we're just doggone tired of it! It's been nice and almost springish for a week, and then cold and icky for a week, then back to nice and almost springish and the cycle starts over again. I'd really like to end the cold and icky parts of the cycle, those are just for the birds! Really...if you're used to it then please just keep it.emoticon (Actually, what I really hope is that we all get nice spring weather soon and DON'T move on to a hellishly hot and sticky summer.)

At any rate, I hope that you all have a terrific Tuesday...whether you send me cold weather or not...emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

Hello Friends,
Thanks so much for the encouragement about Luis. We are just freinds now and just going places and doing things together which is a lot of fun! I have to use my CPAP machine every night and my nose is always red and always really dry so he took me a dollar store yesterday and we got some vaseline and antibiotic cream that I put on last night before putting it on and today it feels and looks great! He is a sweetheart! Talked to woman about apt today and have to get some paperwork together so may take some time but I can stay here as long as I need to. Take care everyone and have a wonderful day!

Kurt we are in the center of the state and about 75 miles to either coast which is nice if we want to go to a beach but we have less to worry about if a hurricane is coming.
Wish we could take folks along but it is going to be tight with the 3 of us-ha ha. We are used to a queen sized bed and this is just a full sized bed so that is our first adjustment. The tiny bathroom has to have the walls pulled forward to make space for one in there-get the idea how tiny and compact we are, but it will work.
We took it out today to fill it with gas-took 9 gallons and we were half full so it wasn't nearly as bad as when we had to fill our big mh up-it held 100 gallons and it was diesel which is more expensive. We will fill it up when we return home on Thursday and that should give us an idea of what kind of mileage we can expect when we take our big trip this summer and I can do some preplanning for our expenses.
Tomorrow is going to be a very busy day getting ready to go. I am doing most of my cooking here so we can just preheat things. Will make life a little easier.

Started germinating some seeds yesterday. I already have a few cloves of garlic started. Going to go to Lowe's tomorrow to pick up some starters pots and a few other things. Trying to do things right this year since our winter is lasting longer here. We are expecting snow again this week and possible again next too. It is about 43 degrees here but, feels like 37.

Just a FYI:
Sixty has had a lot on her Plate according to the last check in and she had been sick. I know it has been a while since she has checked in.

Gail: emoticon Keep up the good work . The weight will come off.

Kurt: It is wonderful to have you back. The dried veggie sound good.

Frosty: Have a wonderful time on your Vacation.

Darla: Sometimes when you are in a relationship you don't always see what others see. It is great that you are able to see that the last guy wasn't any good. It really sounds like you have a great guy. It must feel wonderful to be treated the way you should be.

I hope everyone had a great weekend but, has an even better week.

I've been drying cut vegetables and greens. I start by putting small batches in a wire-mesh basket hung over the stove (the heat from the oven and general cooking dry them out), and then finish drying them in a plain paper bag. It's a very old country-style method, but it works in the city, too. However, it takes a lot to fill up a small container (so it's not quick), but I only have to use a teaspoon or less, and I can grind them to a powder if I need to. As long as they stay dry in the containers, they're OK, and they don't take up much space.
And, yeah, Vivi gets those in her dinner, too (what a lucky dog -- I think she knows that, though).

Good Morning:

I had a very unsettling dream last night and I'm wondering if it was symbolic more than anything. Do you recall your dreams? Are the "far out" or realistic?

Frosty: Hey, is there enough room for me too? I'm with Kurt, I'd love to come along.

Kurt: Just as an FYI, I read some time ago that ounce for ounce parsley has more nutrients than almost any vegetable, including broccoli. I grow my own in summer and freeze it, but you could buy a batch and do the same thing.

G.

Enjoy each day.

I had to do my errands in Manhattan -- at least the main train was OK, and only one of the trains I needed was out of service.
NYC Transit has been doing all their maintenance on the weekends and off-hours (for YEARS -- and they're still not done), so maneuvering long distances is not easy, even though I walk most of the way after I get into the city.

I splurged and bought a pizza -- that was my late lunch and dinner. And, yes, Vivi gets pizza, too. There's one thing that NYC has that most places don't, and that's good pizza.

I also bought new herbs for me AND the dog.
Pugs have no snouts, so they have breathing problems and someone on another SP team suggested Stinging Nettles for respiratory problems and seasonal allergies for dogs (and people). It has a natural antihistamine. I mixed some in her food today and she's not snoring now.
She -- and I -- are also getting Turmeric (for muscle recovery), Green Tea (anti-cancer), Parsley (no dog smell), Lutein + Bilberry (eye health), Astragalus (boosts immune system and fights lung problems including cancer), Flax Seeds, Safflower & Sunflower Oil (Vitamin E for good, soft fur), yogurt with active culture, raw Wheat Germ (B-vitamins), Chlorella, and other stuff (she thinks fish oil capsules are great treats).
So, if any of you have pets, it's very possible to take care of yourselves as well as your pets, just don't overdo the dosages. I open the capsules and sprinkle a little on the food, and then close the capsule -- the rest of the capsule is for me.

Frosty: Vacation sounds terrific. I wish I were going with you. I can't think of any equivalent an hour or two away from here that I would consider a good vacation spot, except maybe some places further upstate along the Hudson River, but I wouldn't want to stay there overnight.

Darla I am so happy to hear you so happy. Sounds like this one might be a keeper. Glad to know you are taking it slow and easy. Not good to rush into anything at this point.
Gail we are going to Cedar Key this week for a couple of nights to try things out. That is about 2 hours from our home. We had hoped to get into a state park closer to home but no openings until April and we didn't want to wait that long! We worked on getting more odds and ends in there today. We went to Wal-Mart and got a water filter for it-we use a disposable as you never know what kind of what you will find out there. I will cook Mon to have our meal for Tues pretty much done-just have to grill the burgers. The friends we are going with will bring food for Wed and I imagine we will eat out while we are exploring the area.
We had a cool front go thru yesterday and it has been overcast and cool today. Hoping it will be nice for our outing.

Hello Friends,
Thank you all so much! Luis has been gone the last few days to spend time babysitting his grandkids and every time he viisits they want him to spend the night! My kids have approved of this one! They did not like the man I dated in Oklahoma for 4 years and now that I am with Luis I see what they saw. Luis opens doors for me, puts up my tray for me and when we are out he always puts himself on the outside of traffic to protect me! I just have never dated anyone like this and he always tells me how beautiful I am! It is nice to be dating a true gentlaman that knows how to treat women right! He was marrried a long time and has filed for divorce. It is almost final and nothing to fight about so that is good. I have been divorce since 1987! Just never found the right man that would fit in with me and my kids but I think I have now! Time wil tell. I talk Monday to my new caseworker for my apt and I did my tazes and have a big refund coming so it is all falling into place for me! I am so happy! Hope everyone has a good day!

Good Morning:

Well, I'm still keeping up my water and veggies but did have 1 piece of bread two days ago and some chicken with a thin coat of flour yesterday. Got to reign that in and start thinking of something else to target as a goal, because my weight hasn't dropped in the past week or so.

Darla: You sound so happy. Good for you.

Pat: Sounds like the RV project is coming along nicely. Where will you go for your first trip? Any plans finalized?

Sandy: That's a big job getting a yard in order. I tip my hat to you. My yard only has perennials and very low maintenance shrubs. That's all I can handle.

Penny: I'm pulling for you and hope things get resolved soon. It's a shame you couldn't get a visit with the specialist before July. Perhaps you could ask them to call you if there is a cancellation.

Kurt: I hear you loud and clear. When you live in NYC there is no such thing as a garden, unless you live in a private home, and there are precious few of those. Some people who lived in apartment buildings that had fire escapes used to plant a few things in planters and keep them there.

Pomlady, Val, Sixty: Where are you? Everything OK?

What do you all plan for the weekend?

Gail

Enjoy each day.

It wasn't a big wall that got rebuilt-about 2-3 ft high of concrete blocks-it holds the dirt back to keep it from washing down our hillside and I plant the sweet potato plants to hang over it in the summer. It was bulging from the potatoes so had to take it apart to get them out and then reassemble. See the pics of them I posted in my blog.
We have been busy today packing more stuff in the rv after I went to the gym and took DH to get his blood drawn-his platlet count was down to 227 today so dropped again-not sure if dr is going to take him off the medicine for a bit - if he doesn't call, he has to stay on it.
We got a nice shower for over 2 hours today and I managed to get a nice nap while it was raining. Something about the sound of rain always loves me to sleep.
Have a great weekend.

How I envy that you can plant things -- no gardens here, and only two little basement windows (not enough light for most plants).
However, I AM drying chopped vegetables the old-fashioned way, but it has to be done in small batches and takes a long time to fill up a decent-sized container.

Darla - good for you. Happy that you found someone special and that you are taking your time.

Kurt - nice to have you back in the chats. You have been missed.

I have been taking care of the yard and getting ready for spring. I have started a few seeds this year in the house and will transplant them when it warm up here. We are expecting snow again this Monday. So, I am trying to get ahead of the planting this year to get a better crop.

Hope that everyone has a great weekend.

Hello Friends,
I am so happy with Luis. We are just being friends first. We go on the buses places and have a lot of fun together. He is really funny and makes me laugh about something every day! It usually takes me a long time to trust men after all that my ex husband has put us through but for some reason I have trusted him fast and we have a mutails respect for each other. He tell s me i am beautiful all the time and we just get along so well wlth each other! I aim still getting my own apt and he is staying here to get his voucher and then we will get a 2 bedroom apt and someone fit all of our stuff in it! lol Then we have talked about marriage too! But one day at a time as we see how things go. Hope everyone has a great day!

We must be getting that weather a day after you get it.
It was 70 degrees today, rain tonight, clear in the high 50s-mid-60s tomorrow, and a bit cooler with high winds on Saturday.

I hope the rest helps you.

I'm trying to stay off my feet -- not much chance of that with all the walking I have to do, and teaching, but I'm trying.
I got that numbness from thong slippers -- it's not a circulatory problem, it's from the separation between the big toe and the other toes because of the thong (I've read about it several times within the past two years or so). The numbness is in the ball of the foot and the bottoms of the toes on both feet.
I got rid of the thong slippers.
