Busy morning here-took DH to get his blood drawn at 8 am and then off to fill up the gas tank-yikes! At least now we aren't going to radiation every day we can hopefully only do that a couple of times per month instead of every 4-5 days! After breakfast, I went to the lab to pick up the results of my bloodwork from last Fri. It was all good except for my triglycerides soooo I have to get serious (even more) and try to get that down. I was down about 50 points from 6 mo ago, but still over 200 (209). I want to get off the medication so that means I have to give up all baked goods and try to limit my sugar intake even more! We went for Chinese the day before I had the blood drawn and I am wondering if that shot it up more than usual as I have really been trying to watch things. I ate no sweets there except for a few of the nuts. I ate fruit instead and tried to eat mainly the veggies with only a large T of rice and some chicken-oh yeah, I ate some sweet and sour sauce -hmmm, wonder if that was the culprit. I would rather fix my own Chinese at home as it is much healthier for us but DH gets a hankering every so often for the buffet!
Our friends, Vicky & Sonny and DH & I took in the food and $$$ from the Ladies Tea on Sat. We delivered 506 lbs of food and $1039.00 to our local food bank this morning. That should help out for a day or so.
I have cleaned house since we got home and fixed a cabbage casserole. I divided it into 3 casseroles. One went to our friend who had bladder cancer surgery as they are home. I thought his wife could use a little break. I took another small one to our neighbor at the other end of our street. Her son passed away a couple weeks ago and she just got home late last evening so I though she would like something warm to eat as I doubted she had much food at home. We are having Vicky & Sonny over to share our casserole with us tonite along with a bean salad, some mashed potatoes and a hot roll.
Did a couple of loads of laundry too for good measure and may try to get a little touchup ironing done before company comes!!!
Gail-glad you had a nice visit with your friend.

Pat

Well, the boys are out and doing errors. I am going to get some more sewing done. Started making grocery bags and now I have friends who want them too.

Sorry that you lost your friend but she isn't in pain now.

It's going to be in the high 50's today. Might rain twice this week but mainly be in the 50's during the day & in the 30's at night all week.

Got a heart doctors appt this after noon. They've put me on a new medicine (LIVALO) to try & take care of the mini strokes. so far it hasn't given me any side effects but the last one wait until I was on it the 3rd week before the side effects hit. I'm hoping this one works.

I have a hard time eating breakfast. Even as a child.

Got a few things to do before I get ready to go. Hope everyone has a good & safe day!

Good Morning: Had a lovely brunch with my friend Ann yesterday. She just got back from Cuba and had so many pictures to share. It was an educational trip and she got to see and learn a lot.

I've got an appointment today at the allergy clinic. So far so good. Which means that I've been having symptoms but they do go away with the medications and over-the-counter stuff I take. There is just no cure for some things. Anyone got a pill for old age?

Might go to the thrift store today to window shop. What are your plans?

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Karen's last 2 sons arrived Saturday afternoon and she passed away this morning about 5 am. It is hard to say goodbye but I know she is in a much better place and no longer in pain and it was bad for her so I am thankful she didn't have to suffer for a long time. However, it is hard to look down the street and know I won't see her again. It seems strange not to see several cars down there. Once again, a new normal will come about.
Saturday was our annual Tea Party which benefits two local charities-Shoeboxes for Soldiers and our local food bank. It was quite a success. The ladies get treated to a tea with little finger sandwiches and desserts served by the men! During the tea, different things are happening, there is a silent auction going on, there are Clowns for Christ who entertain and do skits, this year was a patriotic theme so there was a patriotic poem read. We had a couple who played the accordian who donated their time and played for us. Many door prizes were given out and for all of this everyone "donated" at least $5 for a ticket to attend, brought food for the food bank and items to go to our troops. The donations filled a large SUV for the soldiers and the food filled a pickup bed and the backseat of it. We also raised over $1,000 for each so it was all for a good cause. I will have to take the $$$ in when we take the food in to the Food Bank. The only sad note is the lady who has been spearheading this says she is stepping down and not going to do it next year. I am hoping someone will step up and take it on as it is for 2 very worthy causes-both are run by all volunteer staff so every penny goes to help people. The Shoebox folks sent out over 100,000 shoeboxes last year to troops overseas and the postage alone was over $200,000. They have a thrift store where they raise a good part of the $$$ for the postage and the rest is gotten from fundraisers like we did.

Hello Friends,
Well I got up and got dressed after a shower today and did my chore and do feel somewhat bettter but still coughing a lot and feel congested in my chest. There are so many people that when one person gets sick it just spreads fast. I have been up all day and doing better today. They have a chapel on the grounds and a great pastor that I did the volunteer work for the other day and he did the sermon today and it was really good. So uplifting! We have some great people who come here just to minister to everyone here and I appreciate them doing that for all of us. There is a sister too that I have talked to and she is really sweet too. They put a big emphasis on God here and none of us woudl be here without him! Hope everyone has a great day!

Good Morning:

Had a very nice time last night. Vic and I were invited to some friend's house for dinner. It was great being out of the kitchen and letting someone else do the work. LOL

Val: I'm so glad you mentioned the after-effects of your eye exam after they dilated your eyes. I thought I was going blind too! My eye doctor told me I see 98% of what I should see and my vision has been stable for the last several years. He didn't even change the prescription. I was just wondering if you could get a friend to go with you next time so that you don't have to drive home.

Darla: So sorry you're sick. Take care and drink lots of fluids.

Kurt: So nice of you to share that link. I discovered if I prepare veggies and plan my fruit and vegetable intake for the day I'm very likely to stay on track. I did just that this morning. Though I've had a couple of occasions where I ate flour (bread, crackers, etc.) in the past several weeks, basically, I've eliminated them from my regime. The 8 glasses of clear liquid is also going well. So this week I'll introduce veggie/fruit preparation in the morning and try to get in 5 servings a day. It's my new goal.

Frosty: Hope your friend's children get to her before she passes. Is she in pain? I will keep her in my prayers.

Sandy, Penny, Linda (both of you) and everyone else, hope you are doing well.

Gail

Hello Friends,
I feel so bad today that I have been in bed most of the day. I had allergies but now it feels like bronchitis. I am just sore all over and just feel horrible. I hope I feel better soon.

I have met a nice man here and I am going to get to know better. He is 57 and has a daughter and son and 8 grandkids and 2 great grandkids! He is gone for the weekend to spend time with them. He is nice and very much a gentleman with me. I just want to take my time getting to know him. Well I hope everyone has a nice weekend. Love Darla

Maybe the dessert for breakfast reasoning is behind all of the sugary breakfast cereals you see in the groceries...you never know...

I'm so glad that my work week is over, don't know if I could have handled another day in this one. After work I had my yearly eye exam, which includes getting my eyes dilated. I swear that on my way home there wasn't a single old car on the road that was less than extra shiny. I'm sure that everyone was out there trying to blind me on my way home. emoticon Maybe next year I'll just hang out at the office for an hour after my exam, that could work. (Well okay, I don't think I'll really try that, but it might actually be a good idea...especially if my appointment isn't on a Friday...)

I don't really have any big plans for this weekend, which is okay with me. The most important plan that I have is to sleep past 3:00 in the morning for a couple of days. I'm also going to finish reading "The Hunger Games," cook some vegetables to take to work for my lunches, and watch the Daytona 500. That's about as much excitement as I can take right now.

Darla, I really hope that you're able to get into that apartment. I'm sure it would be really nice for you to have some privacy in you personal life. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Frosty, I'm really sorry that your friend has gone downhill so quicly. I hope that she doesn't have to suffer much more. You said that you think she's waiting for her kids to get there before she lets go of this life and I do hope that she's able to hold out and see them. But as much as I hate to sound like I'm hoping for someone's death, I do hope that she doesn't have to suffer for much longer. You and her family are in my thoughts and prayers.

I hope that the rest of you have a really great weekend and I'll try to have something worth saying again soon. emoticon

Sorry to hear about your friend. I must have missed the beginning and middle of the story, but it's sad just the same.

Everyone:
Someone at another team posted a link to "7 Easy Healthy Dessert-for-Breakfast Recipes." which introduces the recipes with "scientists recently announced that the key to long-term weight loss might be having a little dessert as part of your healthy, balanced breakfast" -- good news if it's true.
Some of these easy recipes look good; all of them are interesting.

Hello Friends,
I am so sorry about your friend Frosty! I will keep her and her family and you in my prayers.

I went today to donate plasma but my veins are too little. I saw my mental health caseworker yesterday and he gave me some more bus passes and said the apt thing is open! So now i have some paperwork to do Monday with my caseworker here and I will have all I need to turn in for the application for my apt! I don't know how long it takes but I will have an interview with them and see how that goes and I will be able to ask more questions. So I am very excited about that! I am glad it is the weekend and I can finally get some reading done or something like that. yesterday i got a package from Catilin's Mom my daughter in law and she sent me some small Vanilla Sugar shower gel , lotion and spray and a new purple umbrella! We have to wait outside to eat so now I wont' get rained on! Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Good evening. Today was our 2nd day without having to make the trek to radiation and we are celebrating our newfound freedom. I was off to the gym and then it was home to get a shower and take DH to get blood drawn to check his PSA-results next Thur.
We were off after that with some friends for some thrift store shopping. Had a fun afternoon. We also booked a bus tour to Key West in late March. Have always wanted to do that so now we are!
Our dear Karen is losing her battle-sleeping most of the time now and family says they think she is holding on to see the kids that haven't gotten in yet. It just doesn't seem real that she is fading away so fast.

Hello Friends,
Well went over to the doctor today and got my gym pass! I weighed on the scale and I have lost 14 pounds here in a little over a month and they makes 66 pounds I have lost all together! I am so happy but still have a ways to go to get where I want to be. I also got a letter for a discounted bus pass too! I see my caseworker here on Monday and I have to call my other one today. It has been a great day! I got to talk to my daughter on the phone yesterday and I told her and Chris from now on they can both talk to both famlies and I need a very long break! They have been fought over so much and lawyers have even been in volved and it has been insane. So they are adults now and they can talk to both side without me. And i refuse to meet any more of my ex girlfriends or wives . I am fed up with that! Well I am glad everyone is doing so well! Hope everyone has a great day!

Good morning:

We are expecting snow today. Oh joy. Frankly, I love looking at it from the inside, but I'm not thrilled going out in the stuff, and it's a bummer to have the responsibility of clearing the sidewalk. If I lived in the country and didn't have that it wouldn't be a bother. But living in a sparsely populated area has its disadvantages. A friend of mine in Tennessee has to drive two hours each way to get health care from specialists. Rural communities just aren't equipped to deal with anything other than run of the mill stuff. I've become so aware of this in the recent past.

Did anyone watch the debates last night? Whatever our political persuasion, it's good to hear what the candidates have to say and how they say it. I recorded it and listened for a while, but couldn't stand the rhetoric, so I kept fast forwarding. I wish they'd get their facts straight when they speak of their own "accomplishments" and their opponents (democrat and republican) records. It's all a beauty contest. Unfortunately, all of politics is like that. Until we have campaign finance reform whereby lobbyists are done away with, politics won't change.

Hope you will all have a happy day,

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Sixty : Sorry to hear about all that you have been though.

Kurt: Nice to hear from you.

Frost : Nice to hear that your Hubby doesn't have radiation treatments.

Gail : Good job at the polls.

I know times are tough for everyone. But, just remember for every door that closes, there is another one waiting to open. My Mother and Grandmother use to say it to me all the time. It got me through some tough times.

Hope everyone has a great week. I am getting ready for another snow fall starting Friday.

Linda-praying things get better in your life. Seems 2012 is not starting off the greatest for so many but I still have high hopes for the rest of the year.
Today was the 1st day of being free from radiation treatments and it felt strange this afternoon. We were off early for our Wednesday breakfast with friends-think there were 16 of us today. Nice time to catch up with folks. Afterwards, we went by to see the home that one couple has purchases. They will be moving there in May. Hate to lose them but they got a steal so happy for them (they are just renting here).
When I got home I got busy and got my paperwork together (worked on it nearly 3 hours last evening) and then went and got it notarized and then we went to the post office and got it on it's way. It is more paperwork for dad's affairs. I will be glad to get all that finalized. I also had more paperwork to forward to my brother's so they can sign it and return it to me. Not sure why I always am the one who has to take care of it all!
While I was in the post office, DH took my watch and got a new battery in it-the shop is across the street from the po.
He slept for almost 3 hours this afternoon-I am hoping he will soon start to get his energy back but don't expect it to happen overnite.
We have been blessed by some much needed rain this evening. The thunder scared our Abbie so I spent nearly 2 hours holding her till the storm passed on by.

It's been rough for me too, but compared to your stories, mine is a picnic.

It's a very nice day today -- I got to see it when I took Vivi out. I don't get much sleep during normal hours here, so I don't get to see much of the nicer days (I work in the evening).

Things in general are OK for the moment, but I'm really hoping for some improvements soon.

emoticon Good Morning.
I know I have been off-line for over a week. A lot happening in the real world that takes priority. Hopefully I will be back more in the near future.
I don't want this to sound like a whine session, but I have been dealing with my own health issues, including an unpleasant reaction to a new medication last week. Just getting back to where I was prior to that. I am to see an orthopedist in March.
In addition - I have felt bad I couldn't help family more who had their own burdens.
My husband has had several difficult days - he was to the doctor six weeks ago & told him about the symptoms. The doctor told him it was "just your metabolism" and you will have to put up with it. Now I am worried something "real" is developing with his heart. He has a terrific amount of swelling and breaks out in sweats. Last week our family doctor was ill & still is not back to work.
Last week or two:
2 of our pre-school grandkids ill will respiratory infections - one had pneumonia and dehydration.
Different daughter - very ill out of state - None of us were able to go to her - but she has a wonderful mother-in-law who did.
Another daughter - pregnant - but her husband had emergency surgery for ruptured appendix a week ago today. We did take care of their 8 year old. S-N-L was seriously ill for a few hours, but doing much better now and is home. His father has also been very ill for about a month and is suppose to go home soon. Neither my daughter or her husband should be a care-giver for somebody who needs to be lifted out of a chair or bed - so they feel guilty - I guess they need some talk-therapy.
Had a funeral last week for one of DH's in-laws.
The list goes on.

I will try to read your posts at a later time to catch up. I know a lot of you are having challenges as well.

Yeah, I've been reading, too, but there's usually a lot of reading and I forget to say anything. There's not much interesting to tell, anyway, or maybe I'm just not as creative as usual.

My evening class of Uzbeks had a Valentine's party (on the 14th) in defiance of the law passed this year in Uzbekistan banning Valentine's Day events (the ban was reported on the national news here in the US). The women made food and the guys brought a computer so they could DJ with mp3s that are popular in Uzbekistan -- dance music from Uzbekistan and Turkey + Jennifer Lopez (what a mix). And in case you're wondering: yeah, they have rap music there, too, but it was a little more tolerable because I couldn't understand any of it.

That's about it for interesting things.

I hope everyone is managing to deal well with whatever's going on in their lives. I'm trying my best to do that on this end.

My company wanted to head out by 7 today, but it was after 8 when they pulled out of our driveway. By 9 I had the house back to rights and the laundry going so all is back shipshape.
Today was DH's final radiation and he got a certificate afterwards. We went to celebrate afterwards with 2 couples. Had a great time.
Now I have to learn a new normal-no more afternoons being tied up! Woo Hoo.
Gail it sounds like you had a long day so hope you can rest up tomorrow.

Just got back from the polls; it was a long day, 14 hours. Still it went quickly and the company was good. Not much of a turnout, but then there was just one thing on the ballot; a 3 man race for judge. Not too exciting.

See you tomorrow.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Got the new meds (LIVALO) yesterday. I couldn't belive the cost - &137.69 without insurance (I have it - $ 25.00) for a months supply! I really hope it works.

Today we're going to prune the fruit trees & the grapes. Then, if there's time, we'll measure the wood on the yard benches for replacement.

Bill's ready to begin so hope everyone has a good & safe day!

Hi team-a quick note and then off to visit more with my company. I was off to the gym a little after 7 and left everyone in bed and when I got back at 9, they were still in bed!!! Hmmm, not quite the way I operate but to each his own. We all managed to get showers and I did a load of laundry and we were off for radiation a little before 1. Only 1 more to go-WOO HOO.
We had lunch at Sweet Tomato and now home relaxing and watching the news. Plan to play a couple of games and then off to bed as they want to be on the road by 7 am.

Hello Friends,
my ex husband and I have been divorced for 24 years but we kept going back to each other and trying to make something work that just has never worked! We learned a long time ago that we just cannnot live in the same house together anymore and most women cannot live with him and kick him out! lol I have met a nice man here and he is going through a divorce so we are just friends but he has already done some really nice things for me and just such a giving man! And I have always been a very giving person. I have made some really good friends here and I will keep in touch with some of them when I move out but some I will never have to see again and I will be happy about that too! lol Well hope everyone has a great day!

Had a pot luck after SS & church yesterday. Bill made meatloaf, 3 loaves of bread & corn to take. All very good.

Got up to sun & going to have 50's today so did the wash & am hanging it out to dry. Have a pr of PJ's to hem & then I'll give 3 pr (new) ti this lady (my height) at church. Got them for a trip that fell thru. Then have to go pick up my new meds. I really hope that works out. Also went thru some books on my new shelf to take to the book store. Will have to go thru all the shelves & thin them out also (I think). I've already thinned them out a lot.

Bill's got to prune the fruit trees. He says I don't need to do them because of my arm but I think it's really because he's afraid I'll go over board with them!

Hope everyone has a good & safe day!

Good morning everyone. I've been reading all of the posts but I guess I just haven't had much to say for a little while. I'd been wondering where Kurt was...and this morning I see Gail's post asking what's going on with me because I haven't posted for so long. Guess I need to try to have something worth saying more often... emoticon

Things have been okay here, though I really wish I could have gone back for a longer vacation/visit with my folks. I've been ridiculously tired since I got back home last Saturday and I've also been trying not to spend so much time on the computer.

On Tuesday or Wednesday I woke up and looked out the window to find 2 inches of snow on my car! emoticon But it really hasn't been too terribly cold here recently, just not as warm as it was in Arizona. I've got all kinds of little cleaning projects that I want to try to get to today. Already did one (cleaned the toilet and put all of the magazines on the bathroom floor in a couple of piles so that I can give them to the volunteers at the hospital) but I still want to at least vacuum and get some of the stuff off of my sofa this afternoon. Need to finish my tax return online today, too.

Anyway, that's about it from here for today. I hope that you all have a really great day today and that the new week starts out well for all of you.

There was much rejoicing!

Hello Friends
Well only have a few minutes. Went to the convenience store yesterday and going again today. Finaly get some different food besides here! I am feeling great! The potassium is making me feel great and I have more energy! I have made some great friends here that I will keep in touch with when I leave here. I just have to get all my paperwork together and my mental health caseworker Juan has already talked to the woman at Share for Care and they pay part of my rent . My caseworker here has been gone all week due to a sick child. Hopefully she will be back on Tues. They are closed tomorrow for President's Day.

Sorry for the loss of your uncle. I don't always go to funerals and just send sympathy cards. It is too hard on me to go to them since losing both of my parents. Have a great day everyone!

Penny: Please take care of yourself. You must be going through a very difficult time. Just know we are here for you.

Linda: My condolences on the passing of your uncle. Sometimes we can't pay our respects at a funeral, but it's what's in your heart that counts. You've been through a lot lately with deaths in the family. I'll keep you in my prayers and hope the biopsy turns out negative.

Sandy: So glad your bil got to your place safely and that you are having a good time. Enjoy.

Pat: Hope all is going well at your end. How many more radiation treatments does Bill have?

Darla: You sounded really "UP". I'm so glad things are falling into place.

Val: We haven't heard from you. Is everything all right?

Kurt: Any work prospects? How's your doggie doing? I bet she's happy as a lark when you get back from work.

I've been doing well the past few days. I took a friend to the supermarket on Friday and that really helped me.

Enjoy the day and stay safe.

Gail

Kurt, was wondering what you were up to. Thought it might be a special project or something.

I talked to the doctors office & they think it might be another mini stroke. No new tests. She wants me to try another cholesterol medicine that could control them. Even thou I don't have high cholesterol. I told her I would but if it made me like the Liptrol did I was quiting it. I think they plan on switching around until they find one that will work. So they ordered it ot my drug store on Friday & I called today to see if it was ready. It's new & they had to order it so I won't be able to pick it up until Monday afternoon. It'll be great to get this all straightened out. I see the arm docotr on 03/21 to ge released. It doesn't hurt at all so i don't think I'll have to have another shot. I'm just really -really tired.

It's rally sunny but cold.

Hope everyone has a good & safe day!

Hello Friends,
Penny- My Mom had a lot of mini strokes like that too and had 3 full blown strokes so please take it easy until they can do a MRI and find out what is going on. We are all praying for you!

Frosty- So sorry about your friend dying. It is so hard to lose someone you love and care about. One of my best friends who also had Bipolar committed suicide while my Mom was dying and after my sweet ex mother in law died and then my Mom on top of that and then several more friends lost a parent last year too. 7 deaths in all. I just prayed to God that I don't lose anyone this year. So I understand what you are going through.

Gail- I have been drinking a lot of water too. I drink what they serve me at breakfast lunch and dinner and then keep water with me all the time to drink and it does feel so much better to have all that water in my system. I feel so much better drinking that much water so keep up the good work!

I got my food stamp card yesterday and have $140 in food stamps! There are two convience stores within walking distance so on a sunny day I will walk to one of them and get some better food. It has been pouring down rain yesterday and today and i got soaked going to breakfast. It soaked my coat, shoes and purse so I am letting them all dry. Hope everyone has a great day!

Good Morning:

I started a new goal several days ago: 8 glasses of clear liquid a day: tea, black coffee, water, bouillon. I've kept it up and just two days started drinking water from my fridge tap. Don't ask me why, but somehow, it is agreeable to drink that water from a bottle, the throw-away from a six pack I got at the supermarket. I'm on my third day today and have managed 4 glasses in the morning and 4 in the afternoon. It feels good.

Hope you all have a good weekend.

Gail

Hi, I've been MIA and there seems to be a lot here to catch up on (and I'm about to leave for work).
My situation is still the same, so I'm surviving.
I'll try to catch up on everything when I get home later.

Good Morning:

Taking a friend grocery shopping today. She shops at a very expensive place. I'll look around and see if they have any real deals, but won't buy much. Their sale prices are like the regular prices in other stores.

I never even got dressed yesterday. I'm glad I HAVE to go out today. It would not be good if I got in the habit of never going out.

Enjoy the day.

Penny that is really scary. I hope they can figure this out. I had an aunt who had something similar and it happened just occasionally sometimes a yr or more apart, and the drs were never certain but thought it was little mini strokes. Please be careful and take care of yourself. A TIA can develop into a normal stroke very suddenly.
Well, folks it is down to just 3 more sessions. We have planned to go out to eat with some friends on Tues after his last one to celebrate.
We went to the cardiologist this morning and he chided DH for not doing more walking but the other drs told him to just rest and take it easy soooo what to do. He will start back walking and riding the recumbent bike after Tues and see how he does. If he can handle that, we will talk to his internist about his going to the gym when we see him in a couple of weeks.

I get my heart monitor off at 1 pm. However, yesterday at noon, I had that happening again. I was sitting, in the arm chair, in the sewing room, and it felt like I stepped out of my self. I dropped the book on the floor & couldn't move to pick it up. I remember looking at it & after a whiel, I did managed to pick it up. Then I got up & began to get dressed to go to the auction. i couldn't get my hair pulled back & then I couldn't get my shoes/socks on. after I managed to get dressed Bill tried to talk to me but he said I didn't make sence but spoke plainly. Then it seemded like I stepped back in & was very tired. This morning I called the heart doctor & they told me to call my reg doctor as they might want me to get another MRI & see if I had a mini stroke. So I'm waiting on their return call but feel fine. The heart monitor didn't show anything at all. It seems like they can't find what's wrong even with all these tests.

It was raining this morning but isn't now. It's very dreary & grey & the wind's getting higher.
Really fits my mood today.

Hope everyone has a good & safe day!

Gail I hope you get rested up from that long day yesterday. Those are killers when it happens and knowing you have no control over it doesn't help.
Darla it sounds like things are starting to come together for you so hoping you can get your own apt soon.
We had a couple of busy days-ended yesterday going out with 4 couples and one of them had their daughter along for dinner so that was nice and afterwards 2 couples came back and we played some pegs and jokers before they left about dark. Poor DH was totally worn to a frazzle by then as he missed his afternoon nap and so we went to bed by 9 and that wasn't wise as he woke up about and hr later with a bad case of acid reflux. That hasn't happened in ages, but we normally don't go to bed till 11 so he has at least 5 hrs before laying down.
Today was our weekly breakfast-had 3 other couples there today-usually have about 18 show up but it was nice to be able to visit with everyone. After that was our monthly RO meeting and that was quite length-we have a new board and a new president and it was a learning experience for all. I wasn't too happy with all of it but I am sure it will all work out in the end.
I am still the beautification chair and on the finance committee. I heard that after I left my name came up to chair finance which I supposedly turned down-wasn't ever asked but had I been, I would have turned it down! I just don't like people saying things that aren't true so....will set that record straight with the new president.
We had to leave early to take DH to radiation-they didn't adjourn till after 1 and we leave home about 12:45. After his treatment, I had to run into Wal-Mart for some OJ since we were out and we decided to grab a Subway sandwich since there was a shop in the store. We split a turkey and that was nice.
When we got home, Vicky asked me is I wanted to go see Karen in the hospital so she, another friend, and I went over for a short visit. Karen & Tommy were waiting for her to get discharged. Hospice has been called in and has set up their house for her. She has blood clots in both legs and her lung so flying back north is out of the question. Her brother has offered to bring his motorhome down and take her back up but she just isn't up to that journey-any little jar brings her a lot of pain. She is still trying to comfort everyone-I feel so glad that she is at peace with this-it is all of us who aren't. The 3 of us held it together until we left and all of us were crying as we went down the hallway and out of the hospital.

Gail - sorry that the day ended to be such an ordeal. Hope you have time to take it easy today.

I hope everyone had a great Valentines Day. Ours was busy with the funeral but also I am under the weather with a cold. Once I came home, I received a call from our former foreign exchange student in Germany. We talked for an hour. LOL It was great. Also received news that an uncle in NC died last night. I won't be able to attend the funeral because I have too many doctors appointments and we are returning to Florida next week. Pretty busy week. Today was my biopsy on the mole on my face. Hopefully, things are okay. The procedure was harmless. I will know the results in two weeks.

Hello Friends,
Gail- Sorry you and your husband had such a long day yesterday and glad you got ot eat out for Valentine's Day. Maybe you can get some rest today and not have to do as much. I don't know how you keep up with all that you do!

Penny- So glad you will be able to take off the heart monitor. I hope they find what is wrong and why you are passing out. I hope you don't have to have surgery either. Sound like the grandkids have already figured out things to do with you! My grandaughter usually does too!

I had a great Valentien's Day! I had some candy from volunteering and they gave us candy for lunch and supper then some women from the Cathlic church came and I got 8 book marks and a rosary. I have relatives that are Catholic and we have many denominations in my family and just agree to pray for each other! My casworker from the mental health center came yesterday and he has called the woman in charge of the program for the mentailly ill for housing and brought me the criteria which I qualify for except I have to see about the income level and she will take over as my caseworker and they will help me a lot of ways. So hopefully that will all work out and i will have an apt of my own soon.

Well hope eveyrone has a great day! Today is my wash day so have to get my clothes done today. Have a nice day! Darla

Gail. I hope thigs begin to get better for you soon!

We ended up with a little over 4 " of snow. Now it's pouring (temps not supposed to get below 35 tonight) & the snow's really melting. for the last few mornings the Blue Jays have been singing & it sounds like spring.

Yesterday we mailed the baby quilt back & went to the book store. I found several books, in my different series to fill the missing spaces. now there's no books on the floor or in boxes. Heck, there's even some spaces on some of the shelves. I'm trying to read the TBR books & get them with their own series so I'm sure that'll fill the empty spaces.

Tomorrow I take off the heart monitor & ship it back. I'm hopint that they can find out what's wrong & not have to do any surgery. I have to see that doctor on the 27. On 3/7 I see the original hear doctor & on 3/21 I see the doctor for my arm. I really don't think I'll have to have another shot as it doesn't hurt anymor. So, if everything goes right, I'll be off all restrictions & can start to do things again. The 23-26 of this month, I'm going to my DD to babysit. I'm looking forward to it & the 5 yr old has picked out the movies he wants me to watch with him. Don't know what the 13 yr old will do but I'm taking the Porot movies with me. She like how they dressed back then - in the 20-30s.

Need to get some vaccuming done before we head out to the auction.

Hope everyone has a good & safe day!

Good Morning:

I was prepared for a long day at the hospital yesterday but it turned into a veritable nightmare. Everything hit a snag which resulted in delays. To make a long story short, we had a 9 1/2 hour day. Plans for a late Valentine's day lunch were long past, and since it was already dinner time, we weren't sure if we would find a place to eat. We wound up at the Marriott and had a great dinner. As soon as we got home I went to bed. It was past 9 PM. Today I'm still numb from yesterday's ordeal.

Val: I make soups, quiche, and other things for the neighbors all through the year. They both work and often come home very tired. I'll be making a quiche for them this week. They eat mostly vegetarian and are very conscious about healthy eating, so I don't make them cakes and desserts too often.

Stay well, everyone.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Hello again Friends,
I went over to the medical clinic again and still did not get seen but I did get on the scale and I have lost 6 pounds so that is good! I will go in the morning and try to get seen again. My caseworker came today and I just have to get a paper saying I am homeless from my caseworker here and they will be able to get me into the housing program hopefully to get an apt. I have to see about my old apt whether they will let me do it with me owing them money. Well hope everyone had a good Valentine's Day! Darla

Gail, your neighbor is an angel and I hope you bake him some cookies once in a while or something like that. Isn't it wonderful when you're feeling like you just can't handle it all...and then someone does something really thoughtful like this?

I had really bad allergies last night and didn't get much sleep at all. So even though I'm sure I could think of something worth saying I think I'll just shut the computer down and head to bed early. I hope that everyone has a really wonderful Wednesday.

There was much rejoicing!

BIL called and he is on his way to the Northwest. So, I have been running around all day getting things ready and done before my BIL gets here. He probably won't get here till Thursday or Friday sometime.

Did get a lot done. Found a great lock smith here that was able to make a key for my file cabinet, that I lost the keys for in our move. I put them in such a safe place that I can't find them. HA!

Well, I hope that everyone had a wonderful Valentine's Day!

Hello Friends,
Happy Valentines's Day! I feel for all of you that have snow and ice to deal with. All of friends in Oklahoma right now. We have had no snow only rain and some sleet the other night. It does get rainy and cold here but it is also very warm! It is about 70 degrees out today! I hope everyone has a wonderful Valentine's Day! Mine has been great this year! Love to all, Darla

Good Morning:

It's going to be a VERY long day and I'm bracing myself. Vic has his weekly blood test and will surely need a transfusion. He also starts another go-round of chemo and has a doctor's appointment. We'll be lucky to be out of there after 6-7 hours.

I got up very early to start shoveling. It snowed overnight and is still coming down lightly. I figured it needed to be done before we left for the hospital, because it might be dark by the time we get home or shortly thereafter. I was all dressed and ready to go when I saw my neighbor shoveling for me before he went to work. I am near tears out of gratitude. Today was the one day I didn't think I had it in me to shovel for an hour and then take on a very long day. Thank God for great mercies.

Hope you all have a wonderful Valentine's Day.

Gail

Just stopping and saying Happy Valentine's Day to all. Hope everyone has a really nice one. We are going to celebrate it on Thursday with my Aunt and Uncle. I am getting over a cold so, I didn't want to get anyone sick.

BIL is support to be leaving California tomorrow morning to come up to the Northwest to live. Will have the house really clean by the time he gets here. We will find out tomorrow (Tuesday) if he is on his way.

It has been a very busy day. We met my hubby's sister, hubby and her daughter at a restaurant for lunch. It was good to see them. I had a really terrible headache, I am pretty sure sinus pressure, so I took a strong med after we got home and took a nap. Had to go out to the funeral visitation for our friend this evening. We saw old friends there and went out to have a dessert after the visitation...lots of calories!! Glad to finally be able to Spark. Tomorrow is the funeral so the morning will be busy but I hope nothing else comes up so I can do some laundry....

I'm ready to go back on vacation already. emoticon I flew home from Tucson on Saturday and missed out on what was supposed to be an 80 degree day. emoticon Then yesterday it didn't get UP to freezing until the afternoon. emoticon Yes, I know it's still winter but that kind of cold is rather unusual for us around here. I know I've cried about this winter's cold already and a lot of you probably think I'm a real baby, but I like our normal warm winter weather and this cold stuff is for the birds!

And with that, I'm going to shut the computer down because it's already past my bedtime. I'll whine at all of you some again other time. emoticon

Hello Friends,
Today a preacher came at breakfast and ask for volunteers to go serve Hispanic Senior Citizens for their Valentine's Banquet and dance! The music was a hispanic band and it was so much fun watching all of them dance and the women were dressed up so nice! After we served all of them we were able to eat ourselves. We had enchildas, beans, rice, a tortialla, carrot cake and tea and then they handed us bags of candy and I ended up with 3 bags of candy too! It was so much fun but now i am so tired! lol There was a coucilman there and I took my picture with him and then we took a group picture with him too! So it has been a fun day! I need to go to centro Med but will do it tomorrow when I have more time. Today my caseworker at the mental health center is supose to redo my treament plan to show that I am homeless and that will help start the ball rolling to get me into the program to get my own apt as soon as they can. So things are getting much better! Hope everyone has a great day!

It's really snowing & we're suposed to get 3-4 inches before it's over. Then Tuesday night it's suposed to begin raining but the temps are supposed to be in the 40's. No ice expected.

I finished quilting the baby quilt & got it boxed up last night. I was going to mail it back today but decided not to go any where today.

Hope everyone has a good & safe day!

Hopefully this is the last of the really cold weather-however, it has gotten my poinsettia plants this time. I am going to have to prune them back now.
I was off to the gym early and then home and we have taken our little mh back to the dealer. The blower on the furnace won't shut off when it is this cold so something has to be done about that as it will run our batteries down! The put a new blower in and a new thermostat so thinking something isn't hooked up right. We will check on it this afternoon on our way back from radiation. Thought it best to leave it so they didn't have to rush as that usually means more problems! We aren't going anywhere for at least another couple of weeks! Now is the time to work on the bugs in it.
This is our last full week of radiation so DH is really excited about that.
Have a great Monday.

It was cold down south-31 this morning with a strong wind-they said wind chill made it feel like 25. Quite a shock to the system after a high of 81 on Fri!
We went to breakfast with friends and then they got the grand tour of our mini mh. After they left DH headed to the recliner and slept for almost 2 hours. He isn't getting good sleep at nite so try to let him sleep when he can.
Back to the grind tomorrow.
Nite all.

Today I went to church. Since we are visiting our hometown for a couple of weeks, it was nice to go back to our "old church". Unfortunately, I have developed a cold. I have a raspy voice - ended up taking a two hour nap this afternoon. I am hoping the extra sleep will help me get over this cold. It is cold here in Ohio and expecting a bit more snow Monday & Tuesday. ugh!!!

Sandy: So sorry that you/re not well. Take care, dear one.

Team,
I am having difficulty getting on the computer for past week due to some health issues.
I had a lot of lab work on Saturday. Until we get this figured out, I may not be online very much. I will try to stop by to say hello now and then, but it is difficult for me to type.

A friend of ours passed away on Wednesday. So sorry for his family. It has been a hectic week.

Friday I went to the dermatologist because I found an ugly mole on the side of my face. It was actually there for quite sometime but I just noticed how strange it looked. The doctor is going to do a biopsy on it this week. Of course it takes about 2 weeks to get the results so I will be a bit nervous until I get the work on whether it is benign or not.

Also have had a cold for the past few days. Hope it is gone within the next couple of days.

Great shopping Gail! Sounds like you really made a haul. Good for you. I spent $42 and got 3 bags and no meat!
Had a great visit with my brother today. He was here for about 5 hours. Before we shared him with dad but today it was all us and we had a great time catching up. His wife has gone north to help a close friend who is going to start chemo next week. Her daughter has used all her vacation so can't take off to help so she is going to spend 2 wks helping her.
We have really cooled down today. My brother expected 25 for a low tonite and we are to get to 37. I am happy we aren't to get down to freezing.

Actually, those who work at the polls get paid. Here in our area they pay over $11/hour.

Darla I am so glad to hear you are getting the support and help that you need. It is great that you will be able to get into the apartment sooner than you thought.
Gail I think it would be fun to volunteer at the poll. Maybe it is something I could do now. Hope you didn't get too much snow.
I have had a busy day. I picked Betty up and we were off to the gym early. She is still nursing a bum knee so can't do a hard workout but she goes and sits and waits for me to get done if it gets to hurting her too much. I had to rush around after that as DH had to see the oncologist at 9:30. His platelets are really coming down with the radiation so they are thinking of taking him off the medication they use to lower his platelets. He has been fighting this condition for about 7 years. He will have to be rechecked in a month and at that time the dr will decide whether to stop his medication.
We got home and I did some paperwork - had to turn in my recipts for stuff bought for the park so that is up to date.
We were off by 12:30 with our friends Betty, Boyd, Vicky & Sonny - they went with us to radiation and a quick lunch and then to the highlight of our day-we picked up our motorhome this afternoon! We made it into a party with all of going-we really had a ball. They brought our car home for us and we did our paperwork and I got to drive the Rialto home!!! Tomorrow we plan to get a few things and start getting it outfitted for our 1st camping trip.
My brother will be down early tomorrow so need to be thinking of what we will do with him tomorrow!!!

Hello Friends,
Gail- That sound like a great way to make some extra money. I am looking for a part time job but cannot make more than $1000 gross! So it is kind of hard to find anything that I can do and still keep it at that amount but I have applied for several jobs online so maybe one of them will contact me.

Pat- So happy to hear of your husband's progress! I am so glad that he is going to be okay and you can both go trips in your new RV and finally have some fun! You did so much to take care of your Dad and now it is time for the two of you to enjoy yourselves. I took care of my Mom the majority of my adult life along with my kids at the same time. By the end of her life I had just lost all my patience with her and she was really driiving me crazy. It was always just a huge power stuggle between the two of us and she just had to say something about the clothes I wore or my hair being too long or something all the time. My daughter likes my hair long and so do I . I am not goign to keep it short when I like it better long! And now she is gone so I can do whatever I want to do! lol

Well I did not get done at the cento med here that I wanted to get done the other day and I am just too tired from everything I have had to do this week to go wait over there for hours. So I am just off for the weekend and now maybe I will finally have time to read. I have not read all week becasue I have been too busy. Appplied for food stamps today so that will help until I can get a job. Hope everyone has a great weekend! Darla

Good Morning:

it's 27 and snowing here. The wind seems to be blowing too. Yuk! I'll be going out later for the training and will make a quick run to the supermarket. After, it's back home where it's warm and cozy.

Enjoy each day.

Good Evening:

I just got on the computer. Vic has been on since about 9am this morning. He had over 1,000 emails and had to clear a bunch out. Then he started playing with his most recent cell phone purchase. Now we have two cell phones. How will we ever use up all the minutes? We have the Prepays...no contract...but one gets double minutes and the other triple minutes each time you buy more, which is every three months.

I will be working the polls in February and April and need to go for "training" tomorrow afternoon. It is rather convenient since the polling place is walking distance to my home and I can vote there while I'm working. Have any of you worked the polls. Here they pay more than $11/ hour. I work from 6am till closing so it comes out to a nice chunk.

Darla: Glad that things are looking up for you.

Pat: I'm here rooting for Bill and you all the way. So glad the end is finally in sight.

Wishing you all a happy evening.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Hello Friends,
Well I have some good news Pat! My caseworker at the mental health clinic has done nothign for me the whole 6 months I have been here until I moved in here and then only a few things. I saw my caseworker here yesterday and she can get me in a special disabled program and have me in an apt in a few months! She is also gave me paperwork that the provider here has to sign and I will get free bus pass and a van that will pick me up for dr appointments! I went to the dental clinic today but my teeth are really bad because my Mom quit taking me to the dentist after my Dad died and I have had very little money raising two kids and medicare does not pay for dental work so I am just now getting the help I need. They may have to pull more teeth and he said if we clean them that there is a chance of saving more. But since i Have this kidney disease now i have to have a note from the provider saying it is safe for me and wont' damage my kidneys anymore. I have to get more blood drawen and a prescriton wrote for my hormones, a note to keep my bottem bunk and a note saying it is okay for me to work out on the gym here. I know they have a treadmill so that will be good. So there is your good news Pat! Sorry so many things have happened that are sad in your life. I lost a lot of people I loved last year and so hard to grieve al of them at the same time. Take care everyone , Darla

We are in the mid 70's so it is hard to believe you have snow.
We hit a milestone today-no more double digits for DH. Now it is the final countdown. Woo Hoo!
We are picking up our mh Fri afternoon after treatment so looking forward to that.
Karen & Tommy came by today and sat and visited with us nearly 30 min. She is living on morphine to handle the pain for now. She is scheduled for a PET scan tomorrow. They have finally gotten an agent to help them and the insurance is finally coming around so praying she gets more help than what they were getting. I wish I could do more for her. I held her and hugged her several times while they were here and I think she is drawing strength from friends so we will rally around her for sure. I offered to fix dinner for them, but they said that they have too much food right now so told them to let me know when it gets low.
Another neighbor lost her son early this morning-he was just 57. He had a heart condition and was checked every 3 mo and all was fine at last checkup but this time they found a tumor around his heart and they were to try chemo on it today but he didn't make it to the treatment. I went to see her tonite as she is flying north in the morning. He was down in Dec to stay with her when she had her gallbladder removed so glad they had that special time together.
I am sorry to be such a downer-I am ready for some good news so keep posting it and making me feel good!
Hugs
Pat

Hello Friends,
Pat- I have never seen or heard of any homeless shelter like this one before. It is like a little city. There is a dental clinic, medical clinic, vision clinic and a cafeteria that serves 3 meals a day, a bigger buidling that has the computers and where the caseworkers work out of and a chapel for people to pray in and attend service. So it has everything to help people get back on their feet. There are core classes that everyone has to take including Anger Management which helped me a lot. And since i have income I can rent a room here that has a bed, dresser, refrig and microwave in it and kitchen with a stove and refrig to cook your own meals. There are 10 women ahead of me so don't know when I will get in one and from that I get a section 8 voucher to have low income apt that I can move into when I have saved enought money. I will be here a while but everyone has to move out of the rooms in Dec becaause they are doing another program so I am sure I can be out by then. Well hope eveyrone has a great day!

Good Morning:

Taking a cancer patient in for his treatment this afternoon and am sure it will take the entire afternoon.

This evening Vic and I will go out to dinner. Vic was too tired to go yesterday so we put it off. We did go to the movies though and saw Sherlock Holmes. It wasn't a great movie but the film effects were very good and it was filled with lots of action. It was a nice diversion.

Love you all

Gail

Pat: I'm right beside you counting the days till Bill's radiation treatments are over.

Enjoy each day.

Good evening everyone. Glad to hear things are going good for you Darla. I hope you will be able to find a part-time job so you can move on in your life sooner. It amazes me all they have to offer you there-there is nothing like that down here. Our Baptist Church bought an old motel and they are turning it into a place for families that are homeless. They are doing it mostly with volunteer labor and rehab units as they have the money. I think they have 6 units up and going now. Some of the 1st families that went in have already gotten on their feet and moved on. It was a real struggle to make this happen but they have and God has blessed them with a lot of caring people who are helping make this a reality-not just one religion.
I went to the gym this morning and came home and got our tax stuff together and now it is ready to send to our accountant. I am trying to find out if AARP will still do dad's taxes for me. We always went there to do his for free. I may have to pay our accountant to get it done. Hopefully I can run in tomorrow and check it out.
DH is down to 10 treatments. He is looking forward to moving into the single digits tomorrow.
After his treatment today, we went to see our friends-Lin who had open heart about 3 wks ago and Ruthie who is having tummy problems and their husbands. Ruthie fixed us all a late lunch which was nice. Lin hopes to get discharged next week and then will start cardiac rehab. Ruthie finally got clearance yesterday to get her tests-she had to have permission from her cardiologist to go off her plavix and asprin before they could do the tests. Originally they were scheduled for last week but now will happen next week. After eating, we played some pegs and jokers which is something like the game Sorry but this plays partners and then sat out on the deck and visited till dark. It is still strange to me to not have to be home and get dinner for dad at 5 at nite.
Gail-yes we are beginning to plan some trips. I have made reservations already to go to a state park near St. Augustine in May. Once we get the rv and DH is cleared by the cardiologist and he is done with radiation, we will take it out for a trial run. We lived in an rv for 6 yrs but haven't been out for over 6 now so it will be a learning experiece again-and a lot smaller scale-we lived in a 42 ft mh with 2 slideouts and now we will be in a 22 ft with no slides!
Well, time for bed-another early day tomorrow.
Pat

Just popping in to say goodbye for now. This is a terrific group AND I'm overextended now and now availing myself of it. So in the interests of simplifying and organizing, I'm leaving for now.

Hello Friends,
Gail- I do think it is all straight now and I am not sure if this letter means I am permently back on it or not but I think it does mean that so that is good. I did get a voucher yesterday so between 2 and 4 pm I can go to the warehouse and hopefully they will have some slacks in my size so i can look for a part time job. I just applied for a customer service job at a bank part time that is on the phone and since I have done a lot of call center work the last few years then maybe I will get that. If not there are other call centers and I do want to apply to Barnes and Noble too. Something will come along soon I am sure.

They have lots of computers up here and so i am very glad about that so I can keep in touch with my friends. My son has a car but I am not sure how much it would cost to get it fixed. I can take the bus for now. I have some bills I need to pay this month and if I can get a job soon then I would have the money to pay it all. I hate to ask my brother for any money but I may have to see if he can help me and then I will pay him back. one of my brothers is stinking filthy rich but he refuses to help me anymore. At least SS is fixed now and I need to apply for food stamps too. Well hope everyone has a good day! Darla

Good Morning:

I spent the entire morning yesterday making homemade hommus and pate. The clean-up takes so much time. I really enjoy the hommus with raw veggies so it's good for me to have it around. The stuff at the store is quite expensive, but it's very reasonable if I make it myself. I stopped using canned garbanzo beans since I learned about the chemical they put in virtually all canned goods to prevent the can from rusting. Now I soak the packaged beans overnight and cook them up the next day.

Hope all is going well for all of you.

Gail

Darla: Hope the business with SS is finally all sorted out.

Sixty: How are you doing?

Penny: Nice that the shelves are done. What will you put on them?

Pat: Wow! your RV sounds great. Are you planning a trip soon? Perhaps soon after Bill finishes up with all the radiation therapy. My, my but it sounds like you had a very productive day yesterday. Where do you get all your energy? Have you any to spare?
