OK, Kurt, I'm not going bananas. They removed that option before I got to my Spark "edit" page. I just got a message from a member on another team who said they removed that option because so many people were disturbed by it. Here is the link:

All pages have that option. When you edit your page, you get a big box above it to control the colors and other things on the page. The choices are on the right-hand side of the box, and the one you want to uncheck is at the bottom of that list.
Taking your page offline isn't the same thing.

Thanks for the info; it's very, very important.

I went to my spark page and I do not have that option. However, I do have:

Turn my page offline.

That item is now unchecked. Does that mean that it is online? Should I be checking it for privacy?

QUICK ANNOUNCEMENT:

SP added a feature to blog pages that allows SP readers to "share" someone else's blog with a link on their Facebook pages -- I don't know how long it has been there, but I'm sure that some of you don't want your weight and personal stories available outside of SP and linked to someone else's Facebook page.

To get rid of the "share" bar:
1. Edit your Spark Page and stay at that top control panel (to choose colors, etc.)
2. At the right hand side is a list. The last item on the list says "Show SHARE bar on my blog posts" -- un-check it.
3. Save the changes, and now your blog posts will not be available for posting on Facebook.

Just wanted to post this quickly.

I am having a much better day today-haven't had such a low as Fri/Sat in a very long time. I am so grateful for everyone who was there to help me thru it. Gail, your phone call was a surprise but it really perked me up. It is so wonderful to know that there are friends out there and I call you my earthly angels!
I didn't accomplish much today but I guess that is to be expected from time to time-even little energizer bunnies need to recharge their batteries.
We have warmed back up and got up to 70 today which was nice.
Friends gave us a sample of a Lebanese dish and it was quite tasty and low cal-she is to give me the recipe and I will post it as I think it is a good fit for a Spark recipe.
We had someone come and buy dad's golf cart today, so another thing off my list. In fact, it is going back to where we bought it from for dad. These folks bought the home from the man who sold us the cart! How is that for karma??
Heading off to the gym tomorrow morning and going to try to get back into my old routine or at least part of it-some things will never be any more.
Hope all of you have a great week.
Pat

Thanks, Nana! You're so nice to think so!

Today was in the 40's but the wind was really high. Tomorrow it's supposed to rain & the temps are falling below freezing so guess we'll have ice.

Am having trouble with my left arm/shoulder. Will have to try & get an appointment with the doctor on Tuesday. I'm hoping that this year's better than last year was.

Kurt, you're a smart guy. I'm sure that you know lots of things other's don't. I can't tell a dangerous snake from one that isn't. To me, they're all the same & I want nothing to do with them.

Home everyone had a good & safe day. I'm going to take something for the pain & go to be even if it isn't 8:30 yet! emoticon

Afternoon All,

Gail - good job on the pears. We barter on everything to get a good deal. Asking always helps. Overseas they barter all the time.

We just got our winter in the Northwest. We have received at least 3" of snow here at our house so far. We also had the power go out this morning for about an hour. The snow is still coming down but lightly but, it is to pick up here soon.

Boys have gone out to play racquetball. I am staying in and putting some of the Christmas decorations away. Kept them up for my son, who love it.

Have a great rest of your weekend everyone. I have posted new picture on my page too.

Good Morning Frugalists:

Got to tell you of two things that happened to me recently.

1. We got a very, very soft cuddly blanket for Christmas. It was not large enough to put on our bed, but great as a throw in the family room. My husband adopted it and it became his "blanky". He didn't even want me to wash it too often. That means every six months rather than once a week. Well, of course that would not do, so I contacted Macy's to get another one. They didn't have any in stock in any of their stores, but the warehouse had some, so I ordered it from there. The original price was $80, but with sales and super sales it came down to $40. With shipping and all taxes, our price was $31.59. Here' s a lesson to be learned. When the store is out of stock, it may be much, much less expensive to get it from the warehouse.

2. I saw Harry & David was having another major sale. Imagine my surprise to see the Family Size royal pears for only $19.95. That was the same price as the smallest box of pears. Well, they get you with S&H. So I called and asked if they would extend the "free shipping" promo they had in Dec. The supervisor agreed to do it and I will be getting my large box of pears this week. Lesson learned...it always pays to ask.

Gail

Frosty: Hope things settle down for you very soon.

Darla: I'm sending lots of good energy your way.

Val: Hope you're doing well and are not having too tough a time handling the day to day hurdles.

Linda: You are in my prayers.

Sandy: So glad you're back safe and snug at home.

Enjoy each day.

Good Evening, I have been MIA with everything going on here but maybe life is going to start to calm down now.
Darla I will be praying that things are going to work out for you. So sorry your son feels sending you to a homeless shelter is the answer. That must really be hard for you. Many of us just don't realize how blessed we are until we read what trials others are dealing with.
I am working on trying to settle my father's affairs and it is kicking my you know what. I think I have things resolved on a lot of things, but still dealing with others-I don't feel I should have to make numerous calls to folks but will do wahtever it takes as I want to settle things as quickly as I can.
DH is 1/3 of the way thru with his radiation treatments so we are counting them down. He will be done by late Feb. Then we will anxiously await to see if this was successful.

Good Morning:

Vic and I went to a concert last night and really enjoyed the music. During the intermission he bought a CD put out by the soloist. He always does that, standing in line like a kid at a candy store examining the goods. Afterward we went to a local tavern to grab a bite. God was it noisy! It was unbearably loud, so much so that I cannot ever picture myself in there at night again. During the daytime it's just an informal eatery.

Just kicking back today. Hoping to make Vic fried, breaded chicken breasts. He told me yesterday he thinks he's gained some weight this week. I hope so.

Enjoy the day.

Gail

Hi All,

Just got back home. Snow was icy but, the cabin was great. No cell phones, WiFi or cable. We played games and watched movies.

Hope that everyone's week is going good. We are getting ready for our first snow storm of the season. It has been getting colder. it is about 35 tonight all ready.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Darla, please forgive me for criticizing without realizing that Chris was newly married and had a new child. I suppose that does change the situation a little bit, but it still kind of ticks me off that anyone would ask you to move out of their home and into a homeless shelter. I hope that everyone's situation improves soon...and that your darn check shows up before you turn 100. (Nothing in this world moves more slowly than the United States government...) emoticon

Today was just an irritating day for me. I had to work an entire day in what used to be my main department for the first time in a few weeks and it reminded me of 1)why I really hate to work in that department on a Friday, and 2)why I was looking for another job early last year when I was being forced to work in Hematology 4 days a week. It's my favorite laboratory department and it's what I do the best, but at my hospital it just really stinks because of all the extra stuff that's been tacked on to it and the fact that we have so few people working at our lab that it's next to impossible to get any help when you need it. I've really enjoyed not having to work there except for the first couple of hours of every morning and today was a really rude awakening.

emoticon

But my work day finally ended (thank goodness!) and I only had to work an hour late to finish up with my weekly responsibilities in my once (and probably future) favorite department. Then I went to the grocery and spent a LOT of money because I'd allowed myself to run out of darn near everything I usually keep in my kitchen. My kitties were not happy with me because by the time I got home from work and the grocery they had to wait an extra hour to get fed. Poor girls darn near starved to death, just ask them. emoticon emoticon Took a little joint health test at realage.com which told that the age of my hands is 68, and that my knees are older than 80! (The knees I can believe, but I think that the age of my hands has been grossly overestimated...or at least I hope that it has.) Anyway, however old my joints are, they are very happy to be off for the next two days.

emoticon

Kurt, raccoons are really cute but I'm happy to hear that you don't pet them. And I'm pretty impressed that you're able to identify an opossum. I don't think I've ever seen one and I'm quite sure that I'd never be able to identify it as anything more specific than a big rat. Just remember not to try to make any of those creatures into pets and you should be okay, though they might make nice coats if you were so inclined...

I hope that everyone has had a really good week and that you have fun plans for the weekend. Everybody stay warm and try to get some extra rest before Monday comes around on us again.

There was much rejoicing!

Cold, Winds from 38-50mph, and chance of snow flurries throughout the day.
I haven't gone out yet except to walk the dog -- not looking forward to it.
Maybe I'll fly to work today (without a plane).

I only have one class now -- four hours a night. It was a combined class of two groups that had started with other teachers. The WILD group ended on Wednesday, and only two failed (I expected 5). One guy that failed had tried to memorize answers to simple questions, which didn't work. Whenever you ask him "What time is it?" he answers "It is 7:30." At least he'll be right twice a day.
The NICE class continues until April. They're actually interested in class and try to make progress.

COPPERPENNY45:
Don't worry, I don't pet the raccoons.
I think it's pretty good that a city boy like me could identify an opossum. Most people here probably think it's some kind of deformed rat.

They did the heart cath yesterday. Remember that I said that the chemical stress test said that I has blockage in the heart? Well. it turns out it was a false-negative. In fact, the arteries are clear & I don't need any cho; meds at all. But that doesn't explain why I'm so tired or am having troubl getting my breathe. The doctor told Bill that he's going to check the heart medicine I've been on for so long. I'm really hoping that he finds something & then I can get back to normal, at least, what's normal for me!

Kurt, yesterday we got up to snow, cold & very high winds. On the way to the hospital there was a lot of black ice. They were trying to spray the salt on the roads & the winds were blowing it all over the place instead of where it was supposed to go. Also, you do know that raccoons can get rabies, don't you? So be careful when you're out & about.

Darla, living with other people (even family) after being on your own is hard in the best of times. And with someone just married (even your child) and then having money troubles is a lot of stress. All you can do is think on the possitive things like all they've done already to help you. You'll be on your feet before long.

It's really really cold. About 12.

Hope everyone has a good & safe day! emoticon

Darla, I don't think I like Chris or your brother very much. I just can't understand how anyone with even half a heart can make a family member they supposedly love live in a homeless shelter. But I'm sure that there are things going on that I'm not aware of so I apologize if I'm being too harsh. One way or the other, I hope that your check comes through soon and that you can get into your own place. I'll be praying for you. emoticon

Gail, how nice that Vic was able to spend some time playing the piano today. Music has always brought me a lot of joy, though these days it's easier for me to sing than to play the violin, which is my first love as far as music is concerned. Making music is very good for one's soul, don't you think?

Kurt, I hope you're staying warm. My ex sent me an email yesterday and he told me that it's supposed to get really cold where you are. I lived in upstate New York for 7 years when I was a kid and I know how miserably cold it can get in that part of the country. I don't really care if my ex freezes his tuckus off, but hopefully that won't happen to you, too.

I keep waking up about an hour early every morning and I'm too tired this afternoon to even remember who else is in the group. I hope that you've all been having a great week. The weekend is almost here. emoticon I can sleep in past 3:00 for a couple of mornings and play with my kitties for two whole days. Everybody have a fabulous Friday. emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

Cold, Wet, and Windy in NYC.
This part of Brooklyn doesn't have proper drainage, so hopefully I won't need to swim across streets to get to the train.

BTW, I thought I was going crazy when I started seeing racoons and opossums while walking to and from the train stations at night. I managed to find out that opossums had been brought to Coney Island and its nearby areas to eat the rats, but they flourished and spread.
I have no definite story to explain the racoons, but they have been huge.
I usually see the opossums during rainy nights, so that's why I remembered to mention it today.

At least I know I'm not losing my mind (at least not in that respect).

Good Afternoon:

I don't believe it. I arose early thing morning, had breakfast and went back to bed around 7:30am. Imagine my surprise to find I had awakened at 12:30pm!

It's snowing here and it's wonderful to be indoors looking out.
I just finished a mug of homemade soup and am now sipping some fresh brewed tea.

Hoping you all enjoy the day and stay safe.

Good Evening:

I ran some errands today and was glad to get out in the sunshine for a bit. We are expecting snow during the night and it's supposed to go on all day tomorrow. Also, the temperature will drop sharply to normal seasonal levels.

Vic has been playing the piano for a few hours since late this afternoon with time out to eat and watch the evening news. He's playing well today and that always cheers him up. Right now he's playing Beethoven.

Darla: I'm so sorry for all your troubles and hope things get resolved very soon.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

1 Hello Friends,
Kind of had a hard day. Chris told me today I have to go live in a homeless shelter again. My brother made me live in one in 2000 but I was able to get on housing faster and will be able to again. I guess it just hurts more with my own kids wanting me to live there. But I am staying until Fev 3 so I can get my cell phone back on and pay for my storage buiding with my stuff in Oklahoma. He took me out to eat today and we saw the movie New Year which was great! Caitlin had to quit her job to finish school. She graduates in dec and Chris's Physical Therapist had a baby girl and is on maternity leave for 8 weeks so he can;t work so money is super tight. I didn'yt expect for it to be so long before my money came in. But I got a second letter from SS that says my check will be $1500 a month but I will belive it when it hits the bank! lol I just wont have access to a computer when I am there. Have a good day everyone!

Gail,

Soup sounds amazing. I am guessing you live in the midwest? Mild winter here for me so far, but that is about to change starting tonight.

I'm positive I can do this
I'm positive I'm making progress
I'm positive because I'm sure of myself
I'm positive because I have a goal!
I'm positive because I know where I am going
I'm positive I'll get there.

Worrying does not empty tomorrow of it's troubles.....it empties today of it's strength...

Good Morning:

I made a pot roast the other day using a spark recipe that had 5 stars. The recipe called for 4 cups of water. Long story short, there was a lot of broth. I used my immersion blender to blend the onion and garlic, added some bouillon cubes and had a very nice soup base. Yesterday I added some barley and fresh mushrooms and Voila...a hearty beef soup. I love soup all year, but especially when the weather gets cold.

We are still unseasonably warm but things will change by tomorrow night and we should have a fair amount of snow before the weekend.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

One of the local supermarkets had their 99-cent Banquet Frozen Dinner sale tonight. I bought ten of them -- there usually isn't much of a selection by the time they run the sale, but I managed to find some I like.
They're low calorie and I usually manage to add some things to make them a little healthier. But they're definitely good for the nights I come home and don't want to bother cooking.

Blocks of Espresso (at two stores) were an unbelievable $1.99 so I bought a bunch. I have no idea why they were so cheap because they have no sell-by date.

NYC is getting the last of the "unseasonably warm" weather and they predict we should get rain on Wednesday and Thursday.

Not much else going on.

Good Afternoon:

Vic is having a transfusion so it'll be a while before we get home.

Darla: So glad you'll have some $$ coming in in Feb.

Sandy: Enjoy your vacation.

Nan: Whatcha doing today?

I heard from someone on one of my other teams that ONE FOR THE MONEY will be made into a film and will be released this year. Betty White, they say, will play Grandma. For all of you Janet Evanovich fans I thought this might be of interest.

Hello Friends,
Well I made it back to San Antonio. I had a great time with my daughter and granddaughter! Coming into SA my ears hurt so bad and still feel a little strange. I am sure they will be back to normal soon. I am on Medicare and Medicare Part D for my prescriptions. I had not applied for the extra help which is why my medications were so high but now I have and I am approved. I have Etna and they can do a override and let me get my medications sooner. So it has all worked out for my Bipolar meds. I still need my other medications but no money and Chris and Caitlin don't have it either. I will get $304 on Feb 3 so I will be happy for that. Since I worked more than I should have I owe SS $4.411 and they are taking it out of my checks until it is all paid. So I can't move out until I get that paid and have my full check.

I am getting started back on my WW today and getting on track. Hope everyone has a good day!

Evening All,

Son coming in tomorrow and then we are leave to go Skiing for a couple of days. Hubby got a cabin for us close to ski resort. Unfortunately, there is no WIFI or cable. So, I won't be able to check in. The ski resort is only 2 hrs away but, we figure 2 hrs up and back is a little to far to go. We are only staying 2 nights. We will ski closer to home when we get back.

Hope that everyone has a great week. See you when I get back.

Good Morning:

With Vic's additional medications his tastes are changing again. I will try to return some unopened things for a credit at the grocery. Unfortunately, I don't have the receipt. If I cannot do that I'll give food away on freecycle.

It's sunny and 38 here in south central Wisconsin. It's hard for us to believe this is January. We're 20+ degrees above the average. Tomorrow it will be warmer yet. Nobody can tell me there's no global warming.

1, Save the money on the dog toys.
An old sock with the knot in the middle is a favorite of all dogs (do not use fabric softener, and rinse it out in vinegar/water before giving it to your puppy).
If the sock doesn't have much weight, put one of the toy balls you bought in the closed end before you knot it.
If you find that your puppy can chew through the sock easily, put one sock inside another and then knot it.
Trust me. This works with all dogs.

2. Buy dry dog food and put one day's serving in a jar.
Feed your dog a little from the jar throughout the day, and use single pieces of dry dog food as treats -- just don't use up all the contents before the end of the day -- you'll never overfeed your dog.
Dry dog food can be made semi-moist by adding a little water or watered down gravy (from your food) and letting the dry dog food sit in it until it absorbs all the liquid.
If you use some of your food for the gravy, make sure there are no onions or artificial ingredients (dogs also can't have chocolate or artificial sweeteners).
You can add good things to the liquid like oatmeal, parsley, etc. and mix it with the food.
I buy the same brands of dry dog food, but my pug has never had the same exact meal two days in a row.

Not much interesting going on here as you might have guessed (because I'd rather talk about dogs).

A brisk 25 here.

Darla,
I don't know what kind of insurance you have. My husband had some med prices go way up in December because of the "doughnut hole." But his January prices should be down again. My medication prices are up now because of deductibles.

Vali
That is fun choosing names.

emoticon I better explain better about my walking restriction. Even before we knew I had cancer, I was having low back and hip problems. It has nothing to do with the cancer. These issues are part of the reason I retired early - although I didn't meet criteria for disability. I have bursitis in both hips, but it is a lot worse in the right. I first had problems with this when I was 19. It might be related to the back problems I have that were diagnosed when I was in elementary school.
At this time, they want me to be "partial weight bearing" on my right leg. Therefore - they suggest a cane plus reduced walking. They suggested to use a recumbent bike for my cardio as it reduces stress on the hip as well as the back.

Gail,
Our new dog has a favorite soft toy to play with. She already destroyed the first one she had, which was part of a set of six items on sale for $2. This one looked better made and cost $2 just for the one toy. She has the seam ripped open - so while you are sewing pillow covers, I should be sewing the seam of the dog toy.

Yesterday - I probably spent too much time on the computer, but I sent goodies to all the newbies that I could find that had posted. Then I started sending them to some of the rest of you. It was fun to take a look at your spark pages again.

Keep your Sunday Simple.

Hello Friends,
Well this is my last night with Erin and Maddie. We went to the pet store and saw all kinds of cute pets and got cat food. Between Erin and Cindy they have 4 dogs and 3 cats! So we got cat food and then we went to Best Buy for a cleaner cloths for Erin's I PAD II. Then to Barnes and Noble for calendars for Erin. Then we came home to eat and let Maddie take a nap. We are going to the park when she gets up. I leave on the plane at 4:05 tomorrow and will get into San
Antonio at 9:30 pm. Then it is looking hard for a job and still waiting for my checks to come in. I had gotten my Bipolar meds filled but 2 they had to do partials on and when they said the price of the Geodon I about had a heart attack. All my medicaitons together last year were around $60 a month. My Geodon is $600 and now they say I have to pay $384 for one month supply so I have to call the insurance company and see why it is so higher this year. I can't afford to pay that every month but it is the one medication that helps me the most. I see my new psychiatrist this month so we will see what he says. I may just have to be without it but I can';t sleep without and I am not much fun to be around without it either! lol

60-yes she is stilll very small like a Peanut and sometimes gets called a Stinker when she misbehaves and she does not like to be called that! lol She does make me tired!! But I stay tired a lot anyway. I am going to ask my doctor about that when I do my Diabetes checkup. I think it is just the Diabetes and the Depression that makes me feel that way a lot. I need to exercise every day!

Vali- That is great your co worker is having twin girls. I have identical twin nephews that are 34 years old and I still can;t tell them apart when they are together! They even dress a lot a liike still! Chris and Caitlin are not having kids until they graduate college which will be several more years.. Caitlin only has this year and she will be done in May I think but Chris has several more years and is trying to get in the Physical Therapy Program. Erin is going tyo study and try to take the test to be a ITT Specialist. I am going to buy her the book to study and then she has 6 tests to take and pass and she will be albe to make $100000 a year! So I am proud of both of my kids!

Hope everyone has a great day! Darla

Our lead tech at work, who is having twins in April or May, found out yesterday that she's having two girls. Now we just have to help her pick out two names, preferably names that start with the letter A. Her hubby (who is going to be so screwed with all girls in the house emoticon ) made up a name for their first daughter (just like my daddy did) so we've all got an assigment to come up with unique and pretty names that start with A before her two little ones are born. (Actually, she's got a big hubby, her first daughter is a big girl, and if you could see her belly you would not think that she's only 20 weeks pregnant, so she's probably going to have big babies again. I doubt that the name Peanut would apply...)

Our weather is getting warmer, at 11:00 this morning our temperature is actually up to 39 degrees...so I have a feeling that Kurt is having really cold weather again. (My ex will be, too, but I'm not as concerned about that...) I'm sure we'll have some cold again, but I'm holding on for Spring, which is my favorite season. Then you can all "listen" to me complain about how hot it is in the summer. (Some people are just never satisfied... emoticon ) I need to get a new jacket becuase I lost the zipper pull for my leather jacket after I thought that I'd fixed it. Oh well. I got some gift cards for Christmas so I might as well go look for another leather jacket. My friend and I are going to go shopping again on Friday. Hopefully there will still be some good after Christmas sales going on...

Linda, why are you only allowed to walk a certain amount every day? Does it have anything to do with the cancer, or just with getting old and arthritic? Maybe you should try letting your dog pull you along on a recumbant bike. It could be fun. emoticon (By the way, I do remember Cyrstal Gail and I've got really fine hair, too, which is a part of why I finally cut my hair after 15 or 20 years.)

I went to the grocery after work yesterday. Didn't hardly fill my cart up...and I spent $100! I don't know how the government statisticians are getting away with saying that we don't have inflation going on because we've sure got it at my grocery store. emoticon Oh well, way of the world, I guess. Tomorrow I'm going to try out a Spark recipe called Moroccan Beef Stew. I can cook it in my crock pot and it sounds really yummy...as long as I don't use the cilantro garnish...(Which I'm not going to do because I'm like the only New Mexican who absolutely hates cilantro.)

I hope the rest of you are having a great weekend and that Kurt is staying warm. (Kurt, are you as over winter as I am??) "Talk" to you all later.
