Hello Friends,
Gail I play the piano and sing in the Sweet Adelines or did. There is one here I want to join but I have to get on my feet first and get out of here so that I can join this one here. That is awesome he played for so long! Sounds like he had a good day!

Well me and a friend from the town I grew up in are both single and both of us are on Plenty of Fish which is a free online dating website but I cannot get on it here because it is blocked but she met a guy on there who is 38 and single never married and he wants to meet me! His name is jesse and he lives here in San Antonio! I am excited. I dated a man in Oklahoma for 4 years and he did not feel the same way about me so I am moving on! Hopefully I will have enough money to get my cell phone back on after I pay my bills.

There is a older man here that I am going to see Sherlock Holmes with Sat if we both have the money. But he is dying of Stage 4 Cancer and will be on Hospice soon. He is nice man. There are men and women and families here too. There are so many cute little kids running around here. That is who I feel sorry for the most is the families that have to be here.

Well hope everyone has a great day! Darla

Good Morning:

Well, It's the last day of January and we are already at 44 above zero. Quite remarkable for winter in Wisconsin.

I'm off to take Vic to the hospital for his weekly blood test and think he may need a transfusion. He played the piano vigorously yesterday for over 7 hours nonstop. He didn't even break once for anything.

Enjoy the day. Might get back later.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Hello Friends,
Gail and Pat you and your husbands are always in my prayers and i just cannot imagine how the toll it is taking on boht of you to have sick husbands. My ex husband is a bad allcholic and I think I just have gave up on him ever getting sober. We were high school Sweetheart and he told me one time I would always have a special place in his heart and I feel the same way but we were just 17 and 18 when we got married and had one child after another and now we are divorced and he has remarried several times and I have dated other men. We try to be friends but it just way too weird for me and whoever he is dating for me to meet them and now the kids are grown so there is no reason anymore that we really have to talk to each other. Tonight on facebook one of my friends from Laverne where I grew up said there is a man on Plenty of Fish that wants to meet me that lives here in San Antonio. He is 38 and never married or had kids and i am thinking yes a younger man and no ex wife to deal with! But i can't get on there on this computer so I had her to tell him to be my friend on facebook then I can email him until I can get my cell phone on. I am excited about meeting him! I dated Jim a 59 year old man in Okalhoma for 4 years and I am done with him and my ex husband for good. Time for a new man that will treat me a lot better than Jim and Robert have. I deserve to be treated better and my friends and family and even my own kids know that I do. They love their Dad but they also know i deserve a better man than he is. So I am excited. His name is Jessee. Well hope everyone has a great day!

Had a beautiful day down south. It was a cool 45 when I got up but I got my ironing done and then headed off to the gym while DH and Abbie caught a bit more sleep. I had a nice workout and I was able to get an eliptical machine right away. That is not always the case on M-W-F as that seems to be the days most people come in-Tu and Th are not nearly as busy there.
When I got back home I took the time to read my newspapers before I got busy cleaning out my files for last year and then I got everything for this year filed so that job is done. I even gathered all the paperwork we have received so far and got that entered into my spreadsheet in preparation to be sent to our accountant. After I get a couple more forms, it is ready to print and mail!
This afternoon we were off for radiation and DH questioned the dr about his being short of breath but he said that was not due to radiation. He questioned if he was anemic but his last blood test just a couple weeks ago didn't indicate he was. So of course, now I am worried more about his chest pains and what this might mean. Today he has been fine, no pain, no shortness of breath. Of course, after a couple of days off he usually feels better. Thankful he just has 3 more weeks and 2 days the following week and then he can begin to get better!
On our way home we stopped at Wal-Mart to pick up his medicine which I had ordered yesterday. I should have know it would not be ready on time-they said it would be ready by 1PM on the phone, but it was 2:30 when I went in to pick it up, and it was not ready yet! I did my other shopping and then went back to get it. This is his pain meds and he will only need it for a bit longer, hopefully.
Next we stopped by our Publix as they had trash bags on sale and I had a coupon for $1 off so wanted to take advantage of that!
With all our trips to radiation, we are using a lot more gas. I normally fill up at most twice a month but this month we have spent over $200 on gas versus our usual $75! I guess we will survive as the end is in sight but it made us adjust our budget!
Hope everyone has had a good day.
Pat

Good Morning:

Vic played Schoenberg and Ravel last night. I tolerated the Schoenberg (I REALLY don't like atonal music), but the Ravel was magnificent. He still isn't recording anything because he feels it's not good enough. I keep telling him to record stuff and erase it when he does it to his liking, but he won't do it. Please understand, he doesn't make mistakes when he plays; for him it's a matter of refinements. Oh, well, I guess I won't be changing him anytime soon.

I was up very early with pain not only in both shoulders but all over, and wound up taking 3 ibuprofen. Thank God it works. I don't want to have to take a prescription.

Yesterday I shoveled again and got in 45 minutes of exercise. No, I don't think the pain was from that. It wasn't muscle pain; it felt like joint pain. It's going to warm up today so we'll see how it goes. I do believe the cold weather makes a difference.

I'm going to the beauty school today to have my hair done. It's become a monthly ritual. They don't have any specials this month but I bet they have something next month in celebration of Valentines Day.

Wishing you all a wonderful day,

Gail

Darla, Sandy and Linda: Always in my thoughts and prayers.

Pat: So sorry to hear DH is having a hard time. I know what both you and he are going through, believe me. Vic never had radiation, but chemo also takes its toll. Please take care of yourself with little things as much as you can.

Val: I had the opposite problem in that for years and years I found it almost impossible to get things for myself. I'm much better now but still, I'm mighty thrifty. I've never had a problem spending on others, but never more than I could possibly afford. I hope you enjoy your trip and am thrilled for you.

Enjoy each day.

Val hope you have a great vacation and don't go overboard on your spending! I am so glad that I have never had a problem like some of my friends. I guess one would call me too thrifty but by being that way I have managed to not work the past 12 yrs and we lived on DH's SS income and some of our savings and we have enjoyed it and never felt deprived.
Darla it sounds like that is quite a nice shelter. So glad they are able to give you so much help and that you are in a safe place. It is good they offer you classes and I am sure it will help you as you work towards becoming independent again.
We haven't done a lot today. DH is having problems - he has been unsteady on his feet and hoping once radiation is done that will go away. Everything he does seems to wear him out. He tried to help me this afternoon-he ran the vacuum and he had to sit down several times just to do 2 rooms. I told him I would do it, but he wanted to help.
I worked on downloading some of dad's pics my brother put on a USB drive and then went thru them-there was over 900 and deleted some I wasn't interested in and I still have 2 more drives to do!
This afternoon-late, friends picked us up and took us out to dinner for me taking care of her flowers this summer. That was a nice treat and she gave me a set of bath soaps, etc. I did it to help her out, not because I expected something like this.
Tomorrow it is back to reality and radiation but it is great knowing it is just 3 more weeks plus 2 days so we are going to get there!
Have a great week.
Pat

Darla, this shelter souns really nice and it sounds like it's going to be a positive experience for you instead of a negative one. I'm glad for that.

I'm still kind of tired today, but not nearly as bad as yesterday. I did have to take a little nap this morning but now I'm feeling okay. I'm working a 4 day week this week. Then on Friday I'll see my primary care doc in the morning to talk about adjusting my BP meds. On Wednesday I'll be visiting my chiropractor and hopefully she'll get me all fixed up so that I won't be in a lot of pain while I'm visiting my folks next week. Mom and I are going to go to the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show, which should be a lot of fun. I just love shiny, sparkly things, which has a lot to do with why I've got so much debt to pay off. I'm going to leave my credit cards at home except for the one with the really low credit limit...hopefully that will keep me safe when I start seeing gorgeous gems and jewelry...

Anyway, just 4 more days of work before I go on vacation. emoticon I hope the new week starts out really well for all of us.

emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

Hello Friends,
Val- I am doing great here and they have classes you have to take and caseworkers that help you make a plan to move out. I will be here a while because I have to pay back SS and I am not officially back on it yet. They have to determine if I am still disabled and don't know when she will make that decision. I have already seen the State Psychiatrist and they did take into account all of my physical problems too so that is good. There are 10 people ahead of me for the room and it is here on campus too just a lot better than the dorms with more privacy and I get a Section 8 voucher from that! It is only 30% of my income so that will be nice! I can save the the rest of the money to have a good savings buit up when I do move out.
They also have a 7 week financial class that I am going to take too. There is so much help here and I have never seen a homeless shelter like this before either. I was in one for short time in oKC in 2000 and it was nothing like this . This is like a little city! There are 400 people who live here and families too so there are so many cute little kids around here! I am happy here! I have lots of people to talk to and that is what I like to do!

I have been reading a lot too which I love to do! I started taking my potassiumn pills 2 days ago and I feel so much better! I have so much more energy and tomorrow I am starting the Street to Feet Program. It is a group of people that walk across the street to a track and walk around as many times as you can and they give you tenny shoes and if you do it all month then you get a monthly bus pass which would save me $30 that i can use for something else. With a monthly pass you can ride as much as you want to anywhere! Saw the river walk with Chris the other day and I just love it down there! It is so pretty and so many places to look at down there and it surounds the Alamo and I want to go throught there again. We went one time when I was a kid but I want to go back now since I can appreciate it more now. They have a 2 weeks celebration here in April which parades and all kinds of things. Hope everyone has a great day!

Good Morning: I went to bed past 1am last night and had to get up early this morning so I didn't get too much sleep. I shoveled the bit of snow we got so I've 45 minutes of cardio over and done with this morning. Feels good.

Sounds like Sandy and Nan are planning a good time with family and friends today. I enjoy such get-togethers, but it's a real ordeal when it's at my house because I have to clean and sanitize after the company leaves. Combine this with the preparations before they come...well, it's a job.

Going to sit down and read now and will have a relaxing day.

Be safe and warm,

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Feeling better today. Did a little work in the yard till it started to rain. Having friends over for wine and cheese and play a game. We try to get together with friends on the weekends to play a board game.

It is about 45 here but, feels like 35. It is suppose to rain the rest of this week.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Gail, I'm not going to get enough back from my tax return to finish paying off all of my debts but I'm getting close. I think that sometime this year I should be able to pay everything off except for maybe the car I had to buy because the one that was already paid for wouldn't spit out a computer code that would allow it to pass an emissions test. emoticon I'm getting close, and it's a really good feeling.

Darla, I'm worrying less about you lately because the shelter you're in sounds nicer than any shelter I've ever heard of. It's so nice that you're getting medical care there and training to help you keep your life on track whenever you get your check and are able to move out of there. I'm really hoping that this will all average out to being a positive experience for you.

I haven't gotten anything at all important done today. Not even cleaning around the apartment. I've just been so tired today. I slept in until 7:00 (a real luxury for me) and read some emails while I ate my breakfast...and then I had to go back to bed for a couple of hours because I was just so darn tired. Woke up and watched "The Time Traveler's Wife" on the TV and then, you guessed it, another nap. Not really sure why I'm so incredibly tired today. I could blame it on my crazy work schedule and the fact that I stayed up a couple of hours too late on 3 nights this week, but I'm not sure that really explains it fully. I'm going to the doctor on Friday to have my blood pressure meds adjusted because my BP is not staying in control right now unless I take double meds, which I won't be able to do for very long. Maybe the extra meds explain some of it, who knows? Anyway, I'm going to try to do at least a little bit of cleaning and then maybe go to bed at my usual unreasonably early time. Hopefully I'll be able to wake all the way up tomorrow...

There was much rejoicing!

Hello Friends,
I do appreicate your love and concern for me Val! I am just like Chris and we are just upset that I had to move here to get all the help even from my caseworker at the mental health center. He did not do anything for me until I moved here and now he has been here several times and given me a lot of bus passes. He is coming wednesday to take me and show me where I get a bus pass from since hopefully Friday I will finally have my check unless SS scews up again. Chris and Catilin are just super busy and hardly ever even see each other now. She is in school all day doing her clinicals and he is either in class or working so they dont' even see each other until late at night and on the weekends. Their one year anniversary is March 17 they got married last year on St Patricks Day and a friend is paying for a cabin and they have scraped enough money up to go snow skiiing for their one year anniverary. Her Mom kept the top of the wedding cake but they forgot to get it. We are ours but it was nasty! And we just threw it all away! lol Chris and Caitlin and Erin are just worried about me because of all the new health problems. But I am sure it will all be fine! I just need to keep working on getting more weight off. I have lost 55 pounds so far! I was really skinny before I had my kids and just never lost that weight and just kept going up and up and when I saw 305 on the scale I said that is enough! So trying to go back down now! Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Vali, at least you care. Not many do anymore. I guess it's because we all are having troubles. Glad that you're doing good on the return taxes. I'm hoping that we do better. We've had to pay since we retired in 2005. But, last year we upped the taxes taken out & Mo changed the taxes on SS & the Military retirement. SS taxes will end this year & Militay in 2016. That's state taxes. This year they won't taxe 80% of SS & 30% of Militay. Every little bit helps.

I use camomole tea. It really works & doesn'y taste all that bad.

It was in the 40's today so I did the wash & hung out but it was too wet to do any yard work. It's supposed to be in the 60's on Monday but I have that doctors appointment & Tuesday it's supposed to rain & the tems will fall down again.

Hope everyone has a good & safe day!

Good Morning:

The sun is shining and I've cleared the 1" or so of snow from the walk and the driveway. WOO HOO! Today I am going to lunch with some friends. This is the first time in a long time that I've done this.

Enjoy the day,

Gail

Val: So glad to hear you'll be getting money back. Will this refund and the $ you got from work pay off all your debt?

Enjoy each day.

Darla, I do my best not to be ticked off at Chris. We all have our situations and I guess I really don't have a right to be ticked off at him when I don't even know all about his. So sorry, and I'll do my best not to worry about you so much or be ticked off at him.

I started my day off thinking that I was probably going to end up owing about $2000 to the feds because of going from a married (lower) tax rate to the higher single tax rate at the beginning of October last year. Then this afternoon I started my return on TaxAct.com and found out that I'll probably be getting some money back. emoticon I'm not sure how it can be working out that way, but it seems that it's going to. I was afraid that TaxAct had goofed something up so I did it on TurboTax.com, too, and I got the same exact results. I can't file yet because I'm still waing to get a tax document from State Farm, but it's only going to be for about $20 of interest income so it's not really going to change anything by much at all. So that was a nice way to change the way my day was feeling to me. (Guess that'll teach me not to try to figure my taxes in my head before checking them out online next year...)

I'm really glad that my work week is over. I stayed up too late on 3 nights this week so I've been really tired. Tomorrow I can sleep as late as I want...after I get up between 2:00 and 3:00 to feed my masters...I've got several cleaning projects around the place (it's much more likely to get done if I break it down into several smaller projects) and I'd like to try to make a necklace this weekend. I hope you guys all have a great weekend...and that YOUR pets don't wake you up at 2:00 am to be fed...

There was much rejoicing!

Well, we are thru another week of radiation, just 3 more to go and 2 days the following week. Didn't think we would ever get there but it has gone by pretty quickly.
I did some running today and took care of some of our stuff after I took care of some of dad's affairs by phone. Then I went and got my hair cut and colored. I have needed this since before Christmas so it feels good. I was disappointed that they did not have the color for my hilites so will have to return next week to get them put in. However, she gave me a coupon to use so will get $7 off so even better bargain. I used coupons for the cut and color so it saved me $23!
Have a great weekend.

Hello Friends,
Talked to the woman today about the room and I am on the list but there are 10 women ahead of me and they are all full right now but if I can get into one of the rooms then I will get a Section 8 voucher and be able to have my rent based on my income so that would help a lot. So i just have to be patient and wait. Chris came to get me today and took me to Wal Mart to get my prescritions and we ate off the $1 menu and had a great lunch! I dont; want anyone to be mad at Chris. We were all 3 living on their income since i had no money at all. My daughter in law had to quit her job because she is doing clinicals and is gone all day doing that. She will graduate in Dec with her bachelors in Nuclear Medicine and be able to read MRIS and do stress test and things like that. Chris is also going to college and will have his bachelors in 2 years and will be trying to get into the Doctorate Physical Therapy Program. He is a Physical Therapy Assistant now and only works part time so there was no money left for him to keep paying for things for me and I have gotten all kinds of help here that I was not getting while I was living with him even from the caseworker at the mental health center. I lived in a homeless shelter for a short time in OKC and it was nothing like this and not any help to anyone. So I am very thankful for this place and especially finding out about me kidneys and the potassium and I have the medication she prescribed me now. I wil proubly have to see a Kidney Specialist and see a Dietician too . I have no control over what I eat now at all. Everyone is served the same 3 meals a day and we have no choice over it. But if I get a room I will be able to cook my own food. I ask them if they put a lot of salt in the food and he said they do not. The meals are really heallthy. We always get a fruit with each meal and it is not bad at all. A lot of people gripe about it but I am just thankful to have it all. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Good Morning - I am usually on here when DH is still asleep. This time of year it is still quite dark. I let the dog out. Looks like it has been raining. She only stayed out about 3 minutes.

I was only getting about 3 hours of sleep a night. The last 3 nights, I drank Valerian Root Tea about an hour before I went to be. I did the best last night. I slept about 5+1/2 hours. A new record. I have been crashing and taking a long cat nap in the afternoons. By that I mean - I wake up every 15-20 minutes. Tonight I may try Melatonin again. The last time I took it, I only slept about 2 hours. My doctors know I have all of this on hand - and have given their blessings to trying it. These things can have drug interactions.

I read a Daily Spark Blog

I am thinking about purchasing the DVD reviewed. It is about $60 so I have to think long and hard. Right now, I have the cash. I think I could run it on my computer - we don't have a DVD player. I really need to do something. Lately I am beat in ten minutes. I figure if I buy this - I will more likely do it and it is an investment in my health.

Darla did they tell you to limit your protein?? I have been married to 2 men and both have had kidney problems. My first husband ended up with a kidney transplant but we kept his kidneys going for 5 years and probably would not have lost the function but he got an infection in his foot that affected his kidneys. Anyhow, we were told the kidneys have a problem processing protein and he was to limit it to 4-6 ounces a day to make it easier on the kidneys. He was also a diabetic so had to watch the carbs also. I have never heard about not eating the frozen foods, in fact we were always told either fresh or frozen worked and I have worked with several dieticians. To get your potassium up try high potassium foods, baked potatoes, oj, apricots, raisins, but being diabetic you will have to watch how much of them you eat. Presently we try to limit protein intake and eat all vegetarian a couple of days per week.
My DH is down to just 18 more radiation treatments. He didn't feel good yesterday but today has been better. He certainly needs a lot more sleep as it is wearing him down. Glad the end is in sight.
Our friend with the triple bypass got out of the hospital yesterday so after treatment today, we went out of our way home to drop in for a few minutes to see her. She is looking good but is confined to home for the next 3 weeks so hope she does well. We will try to drop in several times to cheer her up.
Have a great Friday.

Darla, I'm really happy to know that you have access to medical care at the clinic. And the mandatory classes sound really good, too. I really hope that in the end this will have been more of a positive experience than a downer for you. I'm still kind of ticked off at Chris for having made you go to a shelter, but I'm getting to where I guess I don't think that he's a really awful son anymore. Just take good care of yourself and make sure that your kidney stays at stage 1 for as long as possible. (You probably can't tell, but I'm trying really hard not to worry about you too much...)

I got my W2 in the mail today. I haven't started figuring my taxes yet, but I have this really bad feeling that I'm going to owe several thousand dollars for last year's taxes. Until October I was being taxed at the 15% married rate, but this year I'm going to have to pay at the 25% single rate because I was single on December 31st. emoticon I've got that $2500 payout from my vacation time that I can use to pay at least a part of that but I've been having a very bad feeling about last year's taxes for a while now. I'm going to fill out as much of my return as I can this weekend just to get a better idea of how much I'm gonna get raped for...

I'm so glad that tomorrow is finally Friday. I haven't gotten much sleep this week so I'm hoping that I'll be able to get a decent amount of sleep this weekend. The other thing I need to do this weekend is clean my apartment, which I've really allowed to get untidy over the last couple of weeks. I hope that the rest of you have more enjoyable plans for this weekend than I do and that you all have a fabulous Friday.

There was much rejoicing!

Hello Friends,
Well braved the bus again today and made it to my psychiatirist appointment and to see my caseworker and did not get lost this time so that is a plus! The man that built this little city here spent 100 million dollars out of his own pocket to build it. You could either be in the courtyard where people sleep on mats outside or be on campus where I am and I have a bottem bunk , a locker with a combination lock on it, a slide under thing for my shoes and whatever else I want in there and a locked up huge bin to put other stuff in. We have classes to take that are madatory on self esttem, anger management, mission and planniing so they set you up to think about a plan right away on how to change things but I already had a plan. I just have to stay here until I get SS paid off and get my full disabilty check and find a part time job to go with it. Tomorrow I will be talking to the woman about renting a room here. If you have income you can rent a room that has your own refrigerator, microwave, dresser and bed and then there is also a full size kitchen with a stove and refrigerator that you can cook your own meals so I will find out tomorrow how long the wait list is on that. I will stay here and save some money so that when i move out I have money in savings and pay off my old elec and cable bill so I can move into an apt again. We have 3 meals a day and a church on the campus with services. There is a medical clinic, dental clinic and vision clinic so I can get all of that taken care of while I am here. Friday I should finally get my first disablity check so I will have the money for a full month bus pass and be able to ride as much as I want anywhere. I try to just be nice to all the women and not get involved in all the drama of people talking about the other ones behind their backs. It is so stupid for grown women to be acting like that! So I may be here about 6 months or more. The room program ends in Dec and everyone in there has to move out because they are starting a new program so I know I can be out by then. I have picked an apt that has a washer and dryer in it but have to call them and see if i have to pay the last charge of my last apt off before i can move in there. So I do have a plan and that is what keeps me going. some of the women are really nice and I think I have made a few friends here that may stay friends even after I leave but we will see. So don't worry about me. my kidney are still at Stage 1 so i have a chance to change my diet and keep them healthy so I dont; lose anymore of them. Hope everyone had a great day!

Good Morning:

I had a blockbuster day at the thrift store yesterday. I saw a brand new two-pair packet of acrylic/woolen gloves for $2.49. They don't wear well but are certainly worth the price, wash well, and are good for driving. Besides, I'm forever losing or misplacing gloves so having a couple of pair is good. Then I found a pair of lined leather gloves for $3.49 and decided to take them too. When I got to the register I was told the red tagged items were were 75% off and all others were 20% off for me because it was senior day. I went back and got another 2pack of the woolen/acrylic gloves and then proceeded to the register. My total bill for 5 pairs of gloves was $4 and change. That averages to less than $1 a pair! Such a deal.

Have any of you picked up some great stuff recently?

Gail

Enjoy each day.

I don't have much emoticon but wanted to mention to Darla - - -

You may know I am a nurse & used to teach nutrition to my patients.
I question the "no frozen foods."
You have to be selective.
Plain frozen veggies have about 10% of the sodium of canned. It is a little more than fresh - but not enough that most doctors say it is okay. Read the labels and ask again.
At one time - frozen plain chicken breasts didn't have added sodium - but read labels carefully.
Frozen hamburgers, etc., usually are high in sodium.

No boxed meals - no Hamburger Helper -etc.
It is best to make beans from scratch and to make your own broth and soups.
I plan to make a vegetarian broth in my crockpot today. It is low sodium and I substitute it for canned broth. If I have chicken bones, I add that to the pot.

Gail, I work for a hospital so it would be hard for them to not give me health insurance. But I'm still quite aware that I'm one of the lucky ones and that many people can't even get health insurance through their employers. And then we wonder why so many people wait until they're really, really bad off before they go to see a doctor or use the emergency room as their primary care clinic... emoticon

Darla, I'm so sorry that you're having kidney problems. Seems like you just can't buy a break these days. emoticon Speaking of health insurance, are you going to be able to get the care you really need now that you know about this health problem? Whether you're living in a shelter or an apartment seems pretty small now that you've got this much bigger problem. Please do your best to take really good care of yourself so that you can keep your kidney as healthy as possible. Now I'm gonna worry about you even more...

There's not too much excitement in my life right now, and I'm okay with that. I'd kind of like for my life to stay boring for a while, and I have a feeling that it will since I've got no man in my life to stress me out right now. I was talking to my mom this afternoon and she seemed happy to hear that I'm doing okay being single and am not planning on looking for a new husband anytime soon. Moms are great people to have in your corner, that's for sure. emoticon

Anyway, it's time for me to get myself to bed so that I can get up and do the whole work thing again tomorrow. It can be a real pain in the hooha, but at least it pays for things that I need. Everybody have a great day tomorrow.

There was much rejoicing!

You can sometimes substitute lemon juice for salt. I started putting lemon juice in my chicken soup like the Greeks do.

Hello Friends,
Thanks Gail for the kind words and advice. I know like canned veggies and stuff have a lot of salt in them. They do make the no salt version which I guess I will have to get use to or just really work on the fresh foods now. I am going to ask them to refer me to a Kidney Specialist and see what he or she says. My Mom saw Kidney specialists and many many doctors but flat refused to change her diet in any way and just ate whatever she wanted to eat. I listen to doctors and change things that they tell me to change. I had to change my diet a lot when I became Diabetic so I will just have to change it more to get all the salt out of my diet. I do use Mrs. Dash instead of salt and pepper. It is really good on all kinds of food. So hopefully with major changes in my diet I can keep my kidneys from getting worse. Well hope everyone had a great day! Darla

Penny:

I only eat fresh or frozen fruits and veggies. Most are organic, from my garden or from the market. On occasion I will buy frozen chopped spinach or frozen kernel corn. As for canning, I used to can, but don't any more. I've got a freezer and that works swell.

There is a Coop market that I belong to. They have a very small case for non-organic fruits and veggies, and huge displays of organic stuff. There is a "REDUCED" box where they put leftover stuff when a new batch comes in and there is a sharp reduction. The reduced items are not rotten. Sometimes it's fresh stuff that is misshapen. Yesterday I got bananas, grape tomatoes, mushrooms and Belgian endive. I nearly freaked out when I saw how much the endive was...$6.99/lb. The reduced was $0.79/lb. I had never tried it so I gave it a whirl. It was great with the home-made humus I made. What a great snack!

BTW, I try not to use canned goods. Most producers use a compound in the metal which is a carcinogen. I've come to do all my beans from scratch. It's not bad, actually. Just rinse the beans well and set them in a large container or jar. Cover them with water nearly up to the top and let them sit overnight. The next day drain the beans and cook them in salted water with a tiny bit of canola or olive oil so they don't stick to the bottom of the pot. I first bring the beans and cold water to a boil, and then cook on low or simmer until they are tender.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Does that include things you've canned yourself? Or just store bought? And bread is my down fall. Salt has never been something I've craved --except on a fresh from the garden in the summer tomato . We planted plum, peach & apple fruit trees 2 years ago. We alread put in 2 pear trees several years ago. Last year we didn't get anything because of the draught. This month we have to prune them. Heck even the grapes dried up. Hoping this year is better.

TV said we'd have rsin/sleet & snow with the tems falling. It's raining/sleeting & the temps in the 20's right now. So we won't be going anywhere today.

Hope everyone is having a good & safe day! emoticon

Val: Look at the bright side...at least you have benefits. Many employers now don't even offer any, and if they do the worker has to pay all or the lion's share of the premiums.

Darla: So sorry that you had bad news regarding your health. I recently learned that processed foods are very hard on your liver and eliminating them helps to lose belly fat. Over the past few weeks I've eliminated all bread and pasta; I get my carbs from fresh fruit, beans, rice and lentils. I haven't had acid reflux since then and my belly fat is going down, even though I just lost about a pound or two. Most of everything I prepare is unprocessed, especially since I'm strong on fruits and veggies. Have a look at the blog I wrote the other day; it may help you. As for salt, well, that's my downfall. I couldn't care less about sugar, but salt is my nemesis. Also, I think salt stimulates my appetite. Once I'm comfortable with eliminating the processed food ...it's still a struggle going without bread...I'll move on to salt reduction.

One last thing. I believe it is less costly to eat things that you make from scratch. Steamed veggies or vegetable soup with a bit of meat, fresh fruit, etc.

Take care all and enjoy the day.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Hello Friends,
Well I got my blood work back today and it was not good news. I was not diagnosed with high blood pressure until about 6 years ago and apparently it had already damaged my kidneys and I have Stage 2 kidney disease and I am always tired and she found out that my potassium was low and that slows down my heart. So she is putting me on potassium and will recheck my blood in 2 weeks. I talked to a nurse tonight and she said I would a very bland diet with not can food and no frozen food all fresh food and no salt at all. so that will be a switch since I eat can food a lot. My mom's kidney's failed and they could do no more for her which is why she went on hospice and so it scares me to death. I have all the same health problems that she did except I don;t have heart disease and dont;' have copd like she did. I have taken care of her and my kdis most of my life and just had not time to take care of myself and I am really paying for it now. But they have Street to Feet here and I will be walking around a track 3 days a week and they give you a backpack, tenny shoes and if you do it a month they give you a bus pass so it will be good for me. So I was pretty down today just having the same thing my Mom and my Dad also had kidney problems and a niece has had 2 kidney transplants. Just a lot of bad health problems that run in the family. Hope everyone else and their spouses feel better soon. Darla

We had a weird darn day here. I got rained on when I was driving to work at 5:00 this morning and our lead tech got snowd on while she was driving in from the west side of town at 8:00. Then by the time I was leaving work in the afternoon it must have been in the 50s.

I was really glad to have my new coat these last two mornings. On Friday I went shopping with a friend from work to use up some of my Christmas gift cards. I got a black wool pea coat (why do they call them that??) and it kept me very warm these last two mornings. It was a $120 coat that was on sale for $90. I used a $50 gift card and only had to pay $45 with the tax. I'd go shopping more often if I could get deals like that all the time. (I'm not really that fond of shopping, but I do love saving money.)

On Thursday I have an appointment to talk to someone from the company that bought my company about my benefits. I brought home a big packet of information that I was going to read this weekend...but somehow I just spaced it out and didn't even think about it at all this weekend. emoticon I guess I'll have to do that tomorrow afternoon because I'm supposed to have mostly figured out what I want to sigh up for before I go to that meeting. This is all such a pain in the hooha because I just signed up for benefits in November and now I have to do it all over again. Oh well, at least I've still got a job and health insurance...

Anyway, that's the state of my union today. Hope that yours are all going well, too, and that you're all staying warm.

There was much rejoicing!

So glad that you all are improving! I saw the heart doctor yesterday. He doubled the dose of LISINOPRIL from 20mg to 40 mg & refered me to another heart doctor to check my electricals (?). He's trying to figure out why I passed out. I asked him why I'd gone from having too low BP to having too high BP. His answer? OLD AGE! Am really getting sick of doctors, you know?

Kust cold here - no rain or snow today . Tomorrow it's supposed to do both rain & snow. Just hoping that it doesn't get slick. Really don't plan on getting out in it if I don't have to.

Hope you all have a good & safe day! emoticon

Good Morning:

I shoveled our sidewalk and driveway yesterday for two hours. Nobody around here cleared their sidewalks but I was afraid after it melted it would ice up and someone could trip and fall. Even when I was shoveling there were spots where you couldn't see that there was ice.
I was feeling well and it wasn't too cold. The exercise was good. So were the two ibuprofen I took as soon as I came in. :)

Off to the hospital with Vic this morning for his blood test and chemo.

Enjoy your day and keep warm.

Gail

Linda: I went through my night table yesterday. I misplaced some very important keys over three years ago and I still haven't found them. I know they have to be in the front or back bedrooms, so I'm on a quest. In doing this I found several books I no longer need or want. Some I will bring to the hospital; others I'll bring to the Hospice thrift shop.

Pat: So very glad you had a great day. How is your DH?

Enjoy each day.

Yesterday - according to spark, my calories were too high and my protein too low.
So . . . .
Today - I am going to concentrate on correcting that.
I found a recipe for the crockpot that I want to try.
I want to finish cleaning the living area and go through my bedroom closet. I can't find anything. So that will be a big job.

Have a happy day.

Best day I have had in weeks. I got up early to go to the gym but my friend has a bum knee so she didn't go with me today. After a shower when I got home, I met the lady who was buying dad's mobile home and we went to the license bureau and got that taken care of so no more trailer to worry about. After that we checked on a friend who has been diagnosed with bladder cancer. He goes to Moffitt Cancer Center tomorrow to see the specialist and will know what the specialist thinks about a plan for his treatment. By the time we left there, it was time to take DH for radiation. We stopped and got Abbie some chicken jerky on the way home that is made in the USA-the Chinese stuff was making her sick so no more of that. This stuff is twice as expensive and a smaller bag, but worth it to keep her safe.
We stopped in to see our friend who had the open heart surgery and she had good news, she will get to go home tomorrow if the internist approves-the cardiologist has already given his blessing. That is great news. I think we all improve so much faster in our own homes.
My other friend with the staph infection also got good news-it isn't the bad kind. Dr says it is improving and gave her a different kind of medicine to use. Now they are thinking she might have had a reaction to smething. She says she is not contagious so that is also good news.
However, the friends we met Saturday for lunch, he has come down with shingles so hoping that isn't something we need to worry about!
Never a dull moment.
Nite all.

My prayers for a happy birthday and a good year ahead for your husband.

I have been saving leftover vegetables (too small a portion to make a second serving) in the freezer and then making vegetable soup. Great soups for cold nights. It was a suggestion last year on this CHAT

Good Morning:

We have a genuine heat wave here: 35 above 0. We are expecting some precipitation today, so it's going to be yucky out there.

My husband will be 72 next month and I'm planning a birthday party. He doesn't think it's a big deal, but I figure each day, and certainly each birthday, is a real gift. He's been fighting this leukemia for almost 3 1/2 years.

Stay warm, be happy and safe.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

It is almost 7 a.m., but still pitch black out. It has warmed up considerably in the last 16 hours and we had thunderstorms overnight.

I enjoy reading all of your messages. It seems that most of you are doing as well as you can in the circumstances you find yourself in.

I can't stay long today. If I find time later, I will be back.

Another good day for DH. I have gotten caught up on my newspaper reading, worked some this afternoon in the roses in the park-got one bed totally cleaned out and pruned back.
Talked to both of my friends with health issues, the one who had the bypass surgery is so happy-all the tubes are out, they have gotten her up to walk and this evening she was supposed to get a shower so she was really happy. Will stop to see her tomorrow after DH's radiation. My other friend with the staph infection is not getting any better so glad she sees the dermatologist tomorrow. I am trying to stay away from her until she is better as I don't want to expose DH to any unnecessary germs.
We went out for an evening pontoon boat ride with friends. It was a beautiful sunset but it got chilly quickly when the sun went down.
I even managed a short nap in there this afternoon so it was a really GOOD DAY. Back to the grind tomorrow.

Snow starting to melt as the rain continues to fall. We ended up with 12" of snow total in our area in about 3 days.

We were able to get our son on a flight on Saturday morning. Hated to see him go but, he starts school again tomorrow.

Looks like everyone has had a busy week and weekend. Hope next week is better for everyone.

Hello Friends,
Well I was looking forward all week to seeing my son and spending time with him but he had already gone to Wal- Mart and got some of the things I needed but it was not all of it and so I had him take me to a Wal Greens to get the rest but he was griping about it and gripiing about the gas he was using and that was all he did and he was gone and said he wanted to spend his weekends at home with Caitlin so I have no idea when I will see him again. I have always been a very poor singe Mothers so I don't know what he wants anymore. My daughter had the same experiences that he did and she has no problem spending any of her money on me and I am treating so much different at her house. I should have just stayed up there with her. At least I would have had her and Maddie to do things with. It just upset me. But I do have everything I wanted to get and bought me a new water bottle. I had gone into a really cute store the other day that had really bright colored things and bought Maddie a bright colored head band with fake flowers on it and bought me a barrette just like it and left my cup there and was unable to go back and get it. I did buy me some sugar free worthers candy so at least I have those to suck on with my water. The food is not bad and yesterday they had some people from the food bank doing a survey on the food and maybe we will have some changes from it. They do have a room here that has a refrigerator , microwave, bed and dresser in it. You can pay with a percentage of your income or if you have a lot of income it is $200 a month. So I forgot to ask my caseworker about it but will next week. At least I would have some privacy that way and could shut my door. I would still have to share a shower and bath with some women but it would only be a few women not as many as here. So that is my goal to find out about that. Hope everyone has a good day!

It's cold here & supposed to rain later which we need very bady. It's also getting in the mid 50's . I just wished it'd be winter & get it over with.

Will see the heart doctor tomorrow. With the heart clear & no clogged arteries I'm not sure what he'll do about the meds (for high blood pressure) I'm on now. Haven't heard fron the arm doctor's office yet.

Talked to a friend who is not going to keep on trying to change anyone's mind about anything that concerns her and to do the same for them. Those that are bad forher health she'll no longe let be a part of her life. The rest are all intitled to be who we are if it doesn't hurt anyone. Makes sence & I hope it succeds for her. I saw thnigs people said/did just consume her and tear her apart. But she decided that she was letting it happen and is stopping that. I'm really happy for her. Life it much to short to waste being unhappy!

Kurt, we have about 3 acres. We have fruit trees, blackberries, raspberries, grapes, geese, ducks, chickens & several large flower beds. Also the goldfish pond. It's took several years but is coming along. with all we've done for the birds we have very few pests. now we have to put the craft room (used to be a 2-car garage) in order & we'll be at the maintance stage. we'd have been there if my health hadn't have taken a nose die.

Hope everyone has a goo & safe day!

So glad your friend's children came up to be with her. I'm sure that means so much.

As for Bill, please let him know my thoughts and prayers are with him tomorrow and also let him know that his attitude has everything to do with his treatment and recovery. Vic has been hanging in there for over 3 years...a veritable miracle.

Best to all of you and enjoy the day.

Gail-It is hard to imagine it being that cold-makes me shiver just reading it. I am so glad your neighbor did the plowing for you.
Darla-how good of you to listen to the other women. They may never express their appreciation, but I am sure it is doing a lot for them. I continue to pray that you can get thru this period and move on with your life and that you stay safe.

We went to meet friends from up north for lunch. They are spending 5 weeks down south this winter. It was nice to catch up with them. Hopefully we will be able to get together again before they have to head north.
We stopped at the rv park where we spent 6 winters on our way home but only saw one couple we knew there. It changed from being a rental park to being one where you own your own lot.
This evening I talked to my friend who had surgery yesterday and she is already out of ICU and they have removed 2 tubes and just one more to go. Her son and family arrived from NY this afternoon so that will give them some family support. She sounded good and said that she is in a private room so that too is good so she can get some rest.
I got out in my flower bed this morning and pulled a huge bag of weeds but still didn't get it done. I am wanting to get my beds done and then get busy in the park while we are having such nice weather. That is my escape-working in the dirt!
Nite all.

Hello Friends,
Thanks to all of you for the encouragement and support! It is not easy living here with all the different personalities of women but I try to just be nice to everyone and not get involved in all the drama! The things that makes me the maddest is some of them women have been here a long time and sit and gripe about the place yet they are doing nothing to make their lives better or get out of this situation. At least I have a plan and that is what keeps me going is the plan. I guess I am just thankful it is a nice place and i have access to the comptuer to get on here and contact my kids every night on facebook. I get my first check Feb. 3 so I have a few bills i Have to pay and hopefullly I will have enough to get my cell phone back on and that will help to be able to talk to my friends and kids on the phone. I have to be positve since I have to stay here a few months. I try to just listen to the women as that is what most of us need in life is just someone to listen! Have a good weekend everyone!

Good Morning:

We had a snow fall yesterday from about 9am to 7pm. Around 8:30 I looked out the window and saw that my wonderful neighbor had plowed our driveway and sidewalk. Whew! I never ask him to do it and always assume I'll have to go out and shovel, so when he does it, it's always a surprise and a relief. This morning it's -12 but it's supposed to get up to the 20s.

Darla: Still wishing you the very best.

Linda: My daughter has been using a harness on Abner for years and prefers it.

Pat: Glad to hear your friend was in better spirits. I'm sending good wishes for her. Is Bill feeling a bit better? Please tell him he's in my prayers and to hang in there.

Enjoy the day everyone.

Gail

Darla - our area has apartments with government subsidies. Often they are post- WWII houses that only have 2 bedrooms. Hope you find the perfect place.

Pat - I hope your friend continues to improve.

We had 2 or 3 inches of snow in the past 20 hours. It is about 17 degrees out.
Our little dog has developed allergies to our house - probably dust mites in the carpet.
Yesterday, the vet tried to draw blood from her carotids to test her for allergies. The dog was so wiggly that he was unsuccessful. Now Corky cannot wear a collar. So we went to Big R to find a harness. It is better for her anyway. We found a few bargains while there, including a rather large rag rug for $1.50. And I got some walking time in.

Darla you are to commended for staying positive in the face of all you are having to deal with. I will continue to pray for you.
I got into see my friend this morning before her surgery and she was looking so much better and evidently they gave her good drugs as she was having no pain! I sat with her hubby while they did a triple bypass and by 9:30 she was out of surgery and dr said all went well. She will spend a day or 2 in ICU before moving to a step down unit and if all goes well, be home in a week.
I had a couple of hours after I got home from the hospital so got some laundry going before we left. On Monday we pass the halfway point so that is somethig to look forward to. Now we will start to count down the days of treatment that are left.
Hope everyone has a great weekend. Wish I could share some of our 80 degree weather with those of you who are getting the snow/cold weather.

Hello Friends,
My caseworker from the mental health center came and got me today and I went to check on my status with housing and they said it would be 3 years. So he gave me a list of apts that go by your income and I called the only one close to my son and it was $420 a month with no washer and dryer connections and no pets. I found a regular apt that is not much more than that and it has a washer and dryer in it and does allow pets so that is where I will move to. I owe SS 4400 and as soon as it all gets paid and I get my entire check and find a part time job then I will be able to move out and get my stuff from Oklahoma here. I got my blood drawn yesterday to check my diabetes and tryglyerides and I have an appt Monday with the dentist to check out my teeth and they have a place to check my eyes also so I can get all of that done. I am just reading and today I fell asleep on my bed reading so it was good to rest for a while. The food is not bad and I have already lost a pound and half so that is good. They have some women who walk at a track close by and I may start walking with them to just get some exercise plus they give you things for how much you walk and if you do it a whole month they give you a bus pass. Well hope everyone is doing good. Darla

Good Morning:

Well, we're up to 4 degrees and bracing for a winter storm which is due early this afternoon. Vic went in for his chemo and hopes to be home way before the storm starts. We've got plenty of the necessities at home so no worries that way. I hope the roads are plowed by tomorrow morning. Vic has another appointment for chemo in the early morning.

Hope you are all staying safe and well.

Darla I am happy you are safe and it sounds like it isn't as bad as I imagined. Just stay safe and will be praying you can get out of there before too long. I am so sorry your family is not more supportive.

I am still plugging along trying to get things taken care of with dad's affairs. Lots and lots of repeat work but guess I will eventually get there.

I am going to sit with a close friend's husband early tomorrow morning while she has open heart surgery. Don't think anyone should have to sit there and worry all alone. Will leave DH to sleep in as he has had a bad week. Mon will be the halfway point on his raidiation.

Nite all.

Hello Friends,
Well I have only been here for 2 days so it is okay but I will be glad when I have my own stuff and have my own apt again. Some of the women it is just drama drama drama and when it gets like that I just stay quiet and don't comment. Tonight it was just several women talking bad about other women and I finally had enough and just came in to be on the computer again. I try to just be nice to everyone and dont; get involved in all the drama! It is kind of strange here though. I am definitly not a lesbian and it is weird to see so many women naked and one woman I know for sure is a lesbian and that kind of creeps me out! It is not the most ideal situation but I hopefully won't have to be here long. I am just very modest and so I had to get over that quick ot be able to take a shower. But at least I am getting all my health things taken care of and will be able to find some more things to do. Next week I start the classes for 2 weeks which are from 1 - 4 in the afternoon so that will be better than listen to the drama. I have been homeless one other time and swore I never would be again and if I had not lost my job I would not be in this situation. There are a lot of things I do that have to do with my Bipolar but my brothers do not know all of it and really my kids don't either. I am the one who has always talked to my psychiatrist and after 22 years of doing this I am getting pretty fed up with everyone and just want them to leave me alone. Even my son said I could come here or a mental hosital because he has watched my mom and brothers do that to me and all of my psychiatrists have said I dont;' belong in one. They are al just very naive about all of this and I am the one who has 2 college degrees in mental health. None of them do or the work experience I have had. It really upsets me that my son is acting like that. My daughter does not act like that because she knows how it can be handled on a outpatient basis. This is the first time I have even involved my son and I am just getting very frustratted with it alll. I am not even as bad as most people are with it. I have never been addicted to alchol or drugs and so they should be thankful for that because it could be much worse if I was. Erin my daughter has read some books on it but my brothers and son have not. my brothers are just not supportive to me at all. I am just wanting peace in my life and only the people who are supportive to me in my life which are really just my friends. We grew up in a small town where everyone knows everyon else and my own brother has even gone back there and trried to turn people in that small town against me even. It is ridiculous when the whole town has known me since I was 3 years old! And none of my freinds care that I have Bipolar. I am still the same person I have always been! have a good night everyone!

Darla, I'm sorry there's not much to do but I really am glad that the shelter seems to be such a safe place for you to be. You hear so many scary stories about things that happen in shelters (or at least I have heard them) and I'm very happy to know that this isn't going to be a really bad experience for you. I'll do my best not to worry about you, though I do hope that you're able to get into a better situation before too long.

Gail, you know, I try to save money but I'm not really very good at it yet. I'm learning and I think (or at least hope) that I'm getting better at it, but it's going to be very hard for me to put $2000 in my savings account, know that it's there, and not spend it on stupid stuff. I guess it will be a good test of how much I've learned about being frugal and not wasting money. I'm going to stick the money in my savings account, figure out how much I need to save for my two weeks of vacation this summer, and then put the rest of it toward the bills I need to pay off. As much as I'd like to keep my vacation pay for my vacations, it's kind of nice that I'm going to have this big chunk of money to put toward my bills. I hate owing money...just wish I'd known that a bit earlier in my life...

I'm so glad that tomorrow is Friday. It's a payday Friday, well sort of. It's get paid for your vacation time Friday and it's also going to be going to the mall with my work friend and using at least a couple of the gift cards I got for Christmas Friday, too. We're going to go to Bed, Bath and Beyond and I want to buy a new jacket with either my Dillard's or my Macy's gift card. Gift cards are a wonderful invention that keeps me from having to keep gifts I don't really want and say "thank you" for the privilege. My friend and I had a lot of fun when we went shopping the week before Black Friday and hopefully we'll have fun tomorrow, too. It will be a nice way to start off my weekend. I hope that you all have a great day tomorrow.

There was much rejoicing!

Hello Friendsl,
I called the bus station and told them the address but they put me on the wrong bus and I ended up walking about 3 miles to the place but found it . It was about 70 degrees today so it was a nice day and i had the right bus coming home. My TB test was good and I turned it in and they drew blood to test my tryglycerides and sugar and lots of things to just see where I am at. The man that built this 2 years ago just wanted to do something to help and it cost him $100 million dollars out of his own pocket! It is like a little city with everything right here and tomo I will see my casworker here and ask to work out in the gym too. they said they could give me portion control and I said NO! there is not very much food on the tray as it is and I don't want any of it taken away. I have already lost about a pound and half! I walk a lot around here and that helps too. There is not much to do. They have a TV room, computer room and library so that is nice and I brought a bunch of my own books to read including my Spark book to reread! I do feel very safe here. men and women cannot be around each other except in the dining room. Men cannot come on the women's side and women are not suppose to be on the men's side. You have to breathe in a machine each time you come back and they will kick you off the campus if your have a high alchol or drug level. I had to be tested for drugs too. So I do feel very safe here so dont;' worry about me Vali! I wont; be here forever so I can tolerate it. Chris is coming Sat to take me to Wal Mart to get some of my medications and a few other things I need . Feb 3 rd I finally get my check so I can pay the storage buidling and pay my presctition drug coverage and hopefully have enough still to get my cell phone back on but I will have to see. Hope eveyrone had a good day!

Quick Note - we have gotten 10" of snow in the last 3 days. Power outages are off and on. Will check in when I can. It is 25 degrees here and it feels like 15.

Hope everyone has a good week.

Good Morning:

I finally cleaned my oven yesterday. Actually, I've a self-cleaning oven so all I have to do is set it and wait till it's done. At the end I take a damp cloth and wipe it and VOILA....a clean oven. So you may ask why did I put it off for months. Well, I've been in a funk because of Vic's illness and it can be difficult to do even simple things. I'll be speaking to my doctor about it to see if he wants to prescribe some medication. It's very difficult being a caregiver to someone with a fatal illness, especially over long periods of time. My home is always clean...very clean. If it got messed up or dirty it would take a lot out of me to fix it. Vic's illness demands a clean and sanitized home. He has no white cells to fight infection. It's be going on three and a half years now with lots of ups and downs. Our lives are like a roller coaster. Right now he's doing great and that is such a relief.

Val: I have always had the opposite problem that you have. You say you can't save money. Well, I can't NOT save money. Even when we were below the poverty level I managed to save pennies, nickles and dimes. Even now that we are both retired, I still save regularly. And it's a good thing too. We have had to replace our hot water heater, get car tires, etc. since we've retired and we had the money for it. I hate debt so much I do whatever I have to to avoid it.

Wishing you all a happy day,

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Darla, it sounds like a pretty nice shelter and like you should be safe there, which is a big relief to me. It's nice that you'll have the other women to talk to and it's very good that you'll be able to get to your appointments because of the bus passes. I'll keep on praying for you and hoping that things go really well for you.

I went to a meeting about the changes that are going to take place now that my company has been sold to a much larger (and nationwide/worldwide) laboratory company. Some of it kind of sucks, but actually a lot of it sounds really good. One part that I kind of hate is that I'm not going to get to keep the 188 hours of vacation time I've got right now. Actually, I get to keep 40 hours and this Friday (I think) I'll get a check for the rest of it. And for once in my working life I'll be getting 100 cents for every dollar of my vacation time...so after taxes I'll be getting a check for about $2500. I'd rather be able to just keep my vacation time because I'm taking 2 weeks off in June and July...and I'm really bad at saving money... emoticon But if I can just stick that big check into my savings for now I'll have more than enough money to take care of me during my two weeks off, and I'll just put the rest of the money toward paying off my credit card bills and my car.

I went to bed half an hour early last night and I felt pretty good today. Now if I can just get enough sleep for the rest of the week I'll be doing okay. I hope that all of you have been having a good week. I'm off to get ready for bed now.

There was much rejoicing!

Hello Friends,
My caseworker from the mental health center saw me today and gave me som bus passes. I will be seeing him once a week and see the state psychiatirst tomorrow. I have to ride the bus part of the way and walk part of the way. So we wil see what he says. I went to the dental clinic today and have an appointment Monday for them to see what all I need done. Then I go in the morning to the medical clinic to test my tb test. They also make people breathe into a machine every time they come in so no allchol and you can't be addicted to alchol or drugs and stay here so it is pretty safe. I try to just be nice to everyone and that way noone tries to get in an arguement with me or anything. But so far it has been real calm and I have not heard anyone fight. Some things do get stolen but I keep everything in my locker with a lock on it and keep my purse with me all the time. I should not have to live here long. Since I worked full time I owe SS $4400 and they are taking it out of my checks so that will be paid for in 3 months so after that I will have a full check and can get into housing or get an apt of my own. I will get my medical health checked here too so I can see if my diabetes is okay. So I dont' think I will be here for long. Hope everyone had a good day!

Good Evening:

Well, friends, I don't know if you follow the national news, but yesterday they reported that the opposition collected over 1 million signatures for a recall election of our infamous Governor. Not only that, but they have enough signatures to have recall elections for four or five state senators and the Lt. Governor. I hope we oust them all. I'm ashamed to say that democracy was put on hold in a year and a half ago here in Wisconsin. I won't go into details, but suffice it to say that the dealings of the Governor and his cronies were shameless and had the markings of dictatorship all the way.

The temperatures have dropped here and we are now getting seasonable weather. I shoveled for about an hour and a quarter yesterday and will be going out only if necessary. It's awful nice indoors.

Hope you are all enjoying the day. Stay safe and be all that you can be.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

The weather is cold, but it's the strong winds that make it awful.
They're predicting snow tomorrow night, but sunshine and warmer temperatures by Friday.

COPPERPENNY45:
Bird Houses? Goldfish Pond? Sounds too good to be true.

The streets on the way to school have street lights, but it's not well lit. It's about the same in my current neighborhood on the walk home. I haven't had any problems with people, though; only with cars on the main streets (I have to cross an eight-lane parkway and a four-lane avenue.) Most of the other streets are residential with houses or apartment buildings.

Darla, glad things are beginning to work out for you. Hope that you'll get a place of your own before long.

Kurt, is the way you walk well lit at night? I hope so & that you're safe.

I saw the dotor yesterday. Have to have anotehr MRI tomorrow morning. This time on my left shoulder to see if I damaged it when I passed out that time. While there she also froze that spot on my right arm again. Hope it works this time.

Lady I know said that she'd heard that this weather is going to make the fleas worse this summer. And that means the other pests will be on the increase also. Over the years we've added bird houses, feeders, waters & so forth so our bird pop has really increaded. We're the only ones who have our place fenced in. All the neighbors let their dogs run free ao there's no cats outside at all. Our 2 cats have never been out side so the birds are safe. The birds do a great job of cleaning out the pests. The gold fish in the large fish pond keep the water free of insects.

Hope everyone has a good & safe day! emoticon

Hello Friends,
Well it has been a long day. I was not sure they were going to get me in because of my cpap machine but they did and since I have so many health problems I stay inside and they have a computer room with 4 computers, a library and exercise room, post office, medical clinic and dental clinic. I have to go meet my caseworker from the mental health center tom in front of the dental clinic and go in and make an appt to have my tooth pulled and my teeth cleaned. I can get my hair cut when they come and there is a group of women that walk mon, wed, and friday on a track nearby and you get stuff for doing it and if you do it for a month you get a bus pass! The other people sleep in a courtyard outside! So I was just praying I would be inside and I am . It is bunk beds and I am on the bottem and I have a locker with a lock on it for my clothes and my medications. so it is not bad at alll! It is nice to have other women to talk to. Sounds like everyone had a good day! Darla

I hope everyone out there who is getting the snow storm, will be safe. I am just happy to be down south and I moan when it gets down in the 30's!
We had a busy day but got quite a bit accomplished. Two friends are having health issues, my best friend down here had an endoscopy last week and today was at the dermatologist and found out she has a staph infection. This could be dangerous for her as she is the one with the primary pulmonary hypertension. I am glad they are keeping close tabs on her.
Our other friends were at the dr for him and she was having chest pains so dr checked her out right then and there and now she is in the hospital and they are doing all kinds of tests!
DH had another treatment today. Before we know it, it is going to be the halfway point. He is getting discouraged because he is getting more tired as time passes, but they told us this would happen. Our lives haven't exactly been easy since this started so he hasn't been able to just concentrate on treatment and getting well.

It's 25 degrees and we are expected to get 8" - 14" of snow between tonight and 12 AM tomorrow night. Had to come home early from Skiing due to White out conditions up at the Mt.

Snow coming down steady now. It is beautiful to watch but, I don't like driving in it. But, I do love here in the Northwest and the snow. I feel at home here and feel I have finial found Home. Grew up most of my life in California. Came to the Northwest after High School and went to College in Utah. That is when I decided that this where I wanted to live.

Will be posting new pictures on my page tomorrow. Hope all of you have a wonderful week.

Cold w Rain & Hail (it alternates) -- ALL weekend (including the holiday) and supposedly until Friday. Didn't go out all weekend, and I don't look forward to the long walks to and from work.

60:
Your puppy needs more cushion than a folded blanket during cold weather. They develop joint problems just like people. If the blanket is really fluffy and covers the sides of the puppy, try putting a layer of aluminum foil (shiny side up, buried in the middle of the folds) to reflect the heat and keep the dog warm. If your dog tries to get to the foil, remove it.

Also, using the same words during similar situations can signal your dog not to worry.
I always use "it's OK" whenever something bothers Vivi and she stops reacting to whatever it is. I always say "I'll see you later, be a good girl" as I close the door when I go to work.
This actually works well -- One day I was rushing and forgot to do it. She started crying as I locked the door. I unlocked the door, told her the usual, and her tail wagged as I closed the door again.

Good morning:

I need to take Vic in for his weekly blood test. Today he also starts another go-round of chemo for 10 days so we have an appointment with the hematologist. He has been doing so well the last few days that he's insisted on going for his medical appointments all by himself, except for today. His food has been much better these past several days, he's looking stronger and his color is good, so all the signs point to letting him go it alone.

Enjoy the day,

Gail

Linda: They require no smiles and a full front view for the passport photos now too. I'm not sure about the eye glasses. It's for facial recognition to guard against terrorists. I don't know. It seems to me a good disguise would pass if a terrorist was really keen on getting in.

Darla: Hoping things go well for you.

Enjoy each day.

Sipping my green tea again. Those of you were here a year or two ago will remember a conversation about green tea and green tea ice cream. We talked about it for weeks and weeks. I still have never seen green tea anywhere except perhaps on the food channel. I guess I avoid the ice cream aisle.

My drivers license isn't due until next fall, but Indiana has been trying to get us to get it early. I don't understand how we are suppose to do it on-line & get a photo on it. The latest is the photo has to be without glasses and no smiling. My old one shows both.

We have had thunder storms all night. Our little dog was growling at the thunder at one a.m., so we put her blanket next to our bed so she would be quiet. It is still thundering and lightening. We may need to build an ark.

Darla, I really hope that everything works out well for you and for Chris and Caitlin. I'm sure that it hasn't been an easy decision for any of you and I hope that in the end it really does enable you to get your own place sooner. I've never had to live in a shelter but of course I've heard some stories about them. Please be careful. I'd really hate for anything bad to happen to you before you can get into your own place. I'll be praying for you.

I went to bed at about 8:15 last night...and then I woke up at about 12:15 and was never really able to get back to sleep. I'm sure I dozed a little bit, but I've been kind of tired all day. I have a feeling I'll be able to stay asleep tonight. When I left for work this morning it was raining pretty hard. That's a good thing because we can use all the moisture we can get here in the desert. I don't like to drive in a hard rain, but luckily there aren't many cars on the road at 4:45 in the morning for me to have to worry about.

Tomorrow I have to go get a new driver's license that has my current address on it. I notified the state when we moved here but I was told at the time that I wasn't required to get a new license with the new address as long as I let the state know about the address change. But now I need a driver's license with my current address to prove to my new company that I'm a citizen and that I live where I've told them I live. What a pain in the hooha this has all been, but I'll be able to get this aspect of it out of the way after work tomorrow. Then on Thursday I get to go to a meeting where I'll sign up for the benefits I signed up for in November all over again, and hopefully after that it will all be taken care of.

So that's about it from here for today. I hope that you've all had a tolerable Monday and that the rest of your week goes well. I think I'm going to go play with Little Very Bad Girl Kitty for a little while and then go to bed. See you all tomorrow.

There was much rejoicing!

I was glad that Spark responded so quickly to the negative feedback on "that" new feature that upset us all so much. What were they thinking???
Had a good day today-made it to the gym and did some weeding before taking DH for his treatment and on the way home we stopped and visited with some friends who have been down here from NY since Oct but we just hadn't made it by with all that has been going on. DH had to have blood drawn on the way home as his potassium level is too low so hoping it is back up where it should be.
Darla I will keep you in my prayers that you will be safe in the shelter and that things work out so you can get your own place very soon. It is hard to imagine having to live there if one never has, I only pray this is nice place. Stay positive - you have come so far and you can make it even futher.

Hello Friends, Thank you for the support! As for my brother you can say anything! I have told him he cannot be a part of our lives anymore. I was very hurt that Chris and Caitlin would do that to me and I did cry . Chris has been fighting with me his entire life and has been hard to deal with by myself because his Dad is a alchoic and he hit me and he was not in thier lives growing up but they are both trying to have a realtionship with him now. I also have a bad temper because my Mom use to go into rages on us and beat us with a belt even drawing blood sometimes. So my goal this year is to learn to control my anger better and he is working on his too. They do not have kids but both are going to college and she will graduate in Dec. and he has 2 more years to go. This shelter has a library, medical and dental clinic and so I can get checked out good and will be able to get on housing faster and be able to get my stuff here from Oklahoma. He said he would take me back to Oklahoma if I wanted to but I like it here in San Anotonio! It is a lot warmer here!! They have to just stop trying to put me in a mental hospital and Chris said he would not do that again. They don't understand that people with Bipolar can do anything that anyone else can do . We just have some limits. So I can;t work full time anymore and just hope they will see I am still disabled and give me back my check perment. They sent me a new letter and said my check would be $1500 a month instead!! If I work part time that is even more than I was making full time! Chris and I both have not been eating and both of our stomachs are upset so tomorrow I will go to the shelter so we can both get better! Hopefully they have a computer and if not I will find the local library. Just keep all of us in your prayers!

No, you're not going bananas.

I was on-line at about 1 AM (EST) this morning when people from other teams started posting like crazy about the "share" button -- EVERYONE was against it; even people who have accounts on FaceBook.

EVERYONE:
I know FaceBook is useful to people who have friends and family spread out all over the place, but you might want to read up on the negative aspects of having an account.
There were other social networks to choose from, but I don't know how many in the US are still in business now (there are many still available based outside the US), and none of the others here seemed to be as convenient as FB.
If you just use FB to keep in touch with a few family members and friends, and you don't need to keep up with things on your iPhone, you might want to consider one of the smaller, safer networks.

I've already had all the bad things thrown at me early in life, so now that those are out of the way, my future should be wonderful.
